The National Portrait Gallery
The National Portrait Gallery depicts the most influential characters
in British history and includes works by Holbein, Van Dyck &
Reynolds, through Gainsborough, Millais & Tissot, to Cecil Beaton,
David Bailey & Patrick Heron. The collection, including paintings,
sculptures, drawings, engravings and photographs runs to about
10,000 items in the Primary Collection with a further 320,000 in the
archive.
The National Portrait Gallery is open daily except 24th-26th
December. Entry to the building is free with charges for special
exhibitions.
The National Portrait Gallery is on St. Martin's Place, just behind
Trafalgar Square.
