The London Eye
Product Rating
Since its opening in March 2000, The London Eye has become one of the capital's most recognised visitor attractions, and is probably the best place from which to view the London skyline. Situated
on the south bank of the River Thames opposite the Houses of Parliament, The London Eye is very centrally located. From inside one of the glass capsules you can view nearly all of London's most
famous buildings, including the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, St Paul's Cathedral in the historic heart of the capital to Canary Wharf and the Millenium Dome in the East. On a clear
day you can even see as far as Windsor Castle to the west of London.
The London Eye rotates slowly and smoothly, and the glass walls and ceiling of the capsules allow a full 360 degree view. The height of the Eye is 135m, making it the fourth tallest structure in
London, after the BT Tower, Tower 42 and One Canada Square in Canary Wharf. It is the tallest observation wheel in the world. Each ride lasts approximately 30 minutes, which is the time taken for
the wheel to rotate once.
A visit to the London Eye can be combined with a circular Thames River cruise, which takes in the sights of the river, with a full commentary.
You can even get married on the London Eye, as it is licensed for Civil Partnerships.
The London Eye is 5 minutes walk from Waterloo station or Westminster tube station. It is 15 minutes from Charing Cross via Golden Jubilee Bridges. The 211, 77 and number 381 buses stop at The
London Eye. The RV1 route connects the London Eye to the Tate Modern and Covent Garden.
Features of The London Eye include:
- 30 minute flight
- Full disabled access
- River cruises available
- Packages available
- Champagne flight option
- Private capsules option
- Packages for special occasions, including birthdays, weddings, civil partnerships and hen or stag nights

Reviewed by Jenna (aged 7) on 25/08/2008 It was the best bit about going to London. I went on at night with my mum and loved it. Rating:
Reviewed by Steve on 19/06/2008 The London Eye is a great place to start your tour of London if you're visiting for the first time. Even if you know London well, it's still definitely worth a visit, as you won't have seen London quite like this before! On a clear day, you can literally see all of the city's landmarks. Of course, on a wet and windy day it's probably not much fun, but we don't often have days like that in Britain, do we? Rating:
Reviewed by Margarita on 13/06/2008 I don't like going on ferris wheels because of the way the carriages sway around in the wind, but the capsules on the London Eye are completely stable and the wheel travels so slowly you wouldn't know you were moving. Great views! Rating:
