Castle Howard
Castle Howard, situated 15 miles north east of York, is a beautiful
18th century palace in 1,000 acres of gardens. The house is
architecturally stunning and offers grand and ornate interiors. It is
famous as the location for Brideshead in the 1981 television series
of Brideshead Revisited. Castle Howard is also home to collections
of paintings, porcelain, statuary and furniture. The gardens include
temples, lakes and fountains, an 18th century Walled Garden and
an ornamental vegetable garden.
For children there is an adventure playground or they can explore
the serpentine pathways of the enchanted woodland. There are
boat trips on the Great Lake if the weather is suitable. Adventure
trails and weekend activity workshops are held during the school
holidays.
Castle Howard has four cafés located in the House, by the
Lakeside, at the Stable Courtyard and in the Plant Centre.
Castle Howard is located 15 miles north east of York, just off the
A64 towards Malton and Scarborough.
