Reviewed by Rob on 22/11/2008 AWFUL experience with the pay as you go dongle, will not open certain web pages, have to switch between browsers to find one that will open sites, then connection just stops working, can't open the software to reconnect, disconnects on it's own, sometimes works at dial up speeds, the shop were not at all interested, technical support offered suggestions on downloading other browsers rather than look at the problem, advised taking times of problems, in short, not fit for purpose at this time, at least try a service provider that will has a returns policy, DO NOT USE T MOBILE Rating:
Reviewed by Edwin Greenwood on 21/11/2008 I have been using T-Mobile broadband on the PAYG plan for the past month. From home in South East London (probably about 200m from the transmitter) performance has been generally excellent, with peak speeds of about 3.3Mbit/s. There has been the occasional dropout as well as periods of slow running but generally the experience has been very satisfactory. Out and about performance has been more variable, but connections in central London have generally been steady with throughput at up to 1.5Mbit/s. I notice that the USB stick provided is a Huawei E160 rather than the E110 advertised. I don't know if that has made a difference. Rating:
Reviewed by Chantelle on 20/11/2008 OHHH MYYY GOOODDD...and here was me thinking that i was the only person experiencing these probs! Ive had to stop short of sitting on my rooftop in order to try and get a connection....its THAT BAD. Only use it to go on Facebook, MSN and Hotmail to be honest, BUT, even thats bad enough. Takes forever to load up, THATS if it bothers to connect atall, which half the time, it dont. Then, once im FINALLY connected, every 10, 20, secs (or a full ONE minute if im very lucky), the signal drops again and either throws me out completely, or takes forever to reconnect. You can obviously gather im not a 'techy' and so giggs/mbs/GPRS/3G mean nothing atall to me, BUT, waht i do know is that is absolute crap and i would recommend that noone buys it. Its that slow, i cant even dowload pics from my laptop onto my Facebook page, let alone download music or watch programmes on it!! Upon speaking to the T Mobile techy guy (whos attitude 'stunk' to be honest) she advised that my area had 95% signal (or something like that...) and that id "best stand by a window to try and get a better signal".....WTF?????? Im off to the T mobile shop to get THEM to experience how bad it is and hopefully swap the dongle for a stick as i am led to believe that they are 'slightly' better....wont hold my breath tho!! Reviewed by Davey on 19/11/2008 Two weeks into a 24 month £30 contract. And i'm undecided. Work nights and its great between 1am and 7am then it grinds to a standstill. I get limited coverage in the afternoon then its back to peak hour. Got a decent laptop with the deal and I had an idea that it wouldn't do what it claimed. I'm paying £720 overall with a free £500 laptop with £40 worth of accessories. Compared to buying a laptop and paying for a landline and broadband who all lie about their bandwith too. At present especially during peak times its nowhere near as good as fixed line but its a thing for the future. Same as ADSL 6-7 years ago. Its definatly going to get better because 3G phones and broadband are rapidly increasing in popularity so they will have to improve to move with the market. In summary although it really frustrates me at times i'm not feeling robbed. Rating:
Reviewed by Stuart on 18/11/2008 If your connection stays live long enough to read these revues, you've done well! DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT, it is a waste of money. It is worse than the old dial up from pre broadband days Rating:
Reviewed by bill on 18/11/2008 the problems experienced by users are affecting all mobile broadband users. I have not had too much of a problem myself but am living in a city. Those who moan about speed need to get usb extension cable and raise the height of their dongle, try and surf near a window, modify their dongle to incorporate a mini reflector dish (to achieve high gain directionality) and, most importantly of all, persuade as many people as possible not to object to mobile phone masts being placed in their areas. I achieve up to a 2 meg downloading speed on mine and, on average, a consistent 1 meg. I am very happy with this and the cost of £15 pm for unlimited use! Who else offers this? Go over your allowance on the other networks and it will soon become VERY EXPENSIVE INDEED - don't forget that the others charge by the MB as soon as you exceed your allowance! By the way, mobile broadband, by design, uses proxy servers and this is the reason why torrents and other p2p will be slow on it ( port forwarding is not possible) - not, in any way, as a result of the service itself being poor! Reviewed by Mike G on 14/11/2008 Ive had thhis service for about 6 months. It is the only wireless offering where I live, and I am in line of sight of the new mast. Signal strength is usually high. It has been a good service up until around 3 weeks ago. Prior to that time I could download a 1Mbyte file in around 6-8 seconds at quiet times, and about 10 - 15 seconds when the network was busy. 3 weeks ago it went slow, and it has stayed slow. I now can manage around 5k - 10kbit speeds so even surfing the web is a painful experience. I have tried the customer support line, and they are very responsive, but ultimatley just ask you to keep records of what sites you visit and what the speed was like. I think this is just a ploy to make you think they are elooking at it, as after chtting for some time to the tech support guy he admitted that their own staff have had to stop using wireless and go onto a land line ased connection. Says it all really.....it would appear that their network is in serious trouble, just like all the 24 month contracted vctims. Ho hum ! Rating:
Reviewed by Rodger on 14/11/2008 I too wish I'd seen this site before taking out a T-Mobile 18-month contract. Not only is it slow and unreliable but I was overcharged in my first statement - the rate was supposed to be reduced from £20 to £15 from Sep 1st but it seems nobody told the billing dept or the "help" desk, in fact the guy I spoke to simply refused to believe it. Rating:
Reviewed by chris on 13/11/2008 nowhere near 7 megs - more like 0.5 meg downloads and 0.7 meg uploads in my area; however, it is cheap and reliable. What's more, it's the only one which is unlimited and that, in itself, makes it deserve a 5 star rating Rating:
Reviewed by Ginkly on 13/11/2008 T Mobile Broadband is horrible!I haven't been able to open any web site!!!have u got the same problems as me? Rating:
Reviewed by chris bryson on 12/11/2008 have had this for about 8 months and while its not great, you have to remember it is only a mobile service, so you cant expect it to be like cable or adsl (even though that is how it is advertised). The only problem i get, is quite often it disconnects when downloading large files, which is annoying when downloading updates, video, musc files etc.. Apart from that, the service has been rather steady, connections averaging around 400 - 1000. Fastest connection i get is about 2200. Overall i am pretty satisfied, expect slower connections at peak time though, even now and then coming to a standstill. Rating:
Reviewed by Kasia on 09/11/2008 Absolutely dreadful service - I phoned to order T-Mobile broadband after reading a newspaper ad which praised it as 'super-fast at a super-flat rate' of £10 a month for the initial 3 months, and afterwards £15 a month. The USB stick arrived on the next day, but I discovered that I couldn't talk through Skype or watch programmes on iPlayer (they tended to stop every couple of minutes and I had to refresh the screen to continue). Still, I thought I'd cope with it until the contract expires in a year's time as at least it's a cheap service. To my surprise, the bill I received yesterday after using the broadband for 3 weeks came to £30. When I called T-mobile, I was told the price was actually £20 a month because I wanted a year's contract instead of 18 months (I hadn't been told there was a difference in the price depending on the contract length) and that Skype/iPlayer only work well if one buys an upgraded service for £35 a month - the ad didn't mention it and neithe r was I told this when I ordered the service. I tried to cancel it as paying £20 a month for broadband which only allows sending emails and online chatting is much too expensive, but after spending 45 minutes on the phone talking to 5(!) different departments, having to explain the problem to 5 different people, I finally heard that there was nothing they could do and I'd be stuck with this hopeless service for a year unless I want an upgrade for £35 a month. Definitely changing the mobile provider after my contract runs out!!! I found T-mobile customer service unhelpful while the newspaper ad and the information I received over the phone were simply untruthful. Rating:
Reviewed by Joe on 08/11/2008 surfing speeds vary. P2P is insultingly slow at all times and any kind of video is difficult. The Huewei modem sucks so much battery power I only ever use this when plugged into the mains which means I now carry my charger with me everywhere (my back does not appreciate this). Managed to upgrade firmware to 7.2mbps (T-mobile have apparently upgrade to this speed even though i'm not sure its kosher however most recent bandwidth test indicates 1meg (not too bad in central london). The saving grace for me though is the ability to use T-mobile hotspots which is a godsend, hence I'm giving them a very generous 3. Shame that this should be preferable to using the actual modem provided though. T-mobile really need to do better. Rating:
Reviewed by Paul Kelly on 04/11/2008 well my "modem" is a HTC touch diamond with web walk plus or something like that. Coverage is just that, your in one place the connection is HSDPA, a little further along GPRS, two miles down the road and nothing but GSM. In poor coverage areas data connections are better at night. I guess over subscription and lack of investing is the culprit. we have over 30 vodafone datacard users in work and find it much more reliable but even then there are some who complain about no signal. The moral of the story is keep your contracts as short as possible and try a few payg sims in your main usage area before fixing to a network!! Rating:

Reviewed by Nick Lockett on 01/11/2008 I have been using the T-Mobile service for nearly 4 months. It is apalling - complete rubbish and little wonder that they try to lock you in for 18 or 24 months - given the quality of the service, you should tr for a 30 day trial! You'd hand the web n' walk stick back! I use it for travelling e-mail where I can work whilst it struggles to bring down the e-mail but for anything else - forget it!.In the entire time I have never had more than 2kb/s (Sent) and 6.4kb/s (Received). WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T BELIEVE T-MOBILE - THE SERVICE SUCKS COMPLETELY - ANYONE FANCY A CLASS ACTION. I believe apegia at gmail.com is the address of a lawyer putting one together. Rating:

Reviewed by pigthemaster on 27/10/2008 after 5 days of phone calls and several callbacks from technical they eventually managed to activate the hsdpa service on my account and this helped ever so slightly. then my first bill came and they tried to charge me for a replacement sim card which i had told them was not faulty but they had replaced. then came the shockingly slow download speeds. i can sit in the same room with an n95 8gb tethered to another laptop and reliably get between 1.2 and 1.8 meg but this dongle allows around 200k if i'm lucky with no further help from technical i think it shall be going back and the d/d cancelled. there must be a problem with the way its configured, wish they could get some decent engineers or i had given vodafone the correct details then i wouldn't be in this mess! Reviewed by Skip on 27/10/2008 I have just got the stick a few days ago and used it today...what a disappointment ! DO NOT sign up for this its really poor. I need it to remote access servers and it works at about 56K modem speed most times. I am really surprised about T-Mobile they are usually quite good. Will be returning it asap. Rating:
