Another appraisal of 3 mobile broadband from myself. After three plus years using it first hand,it has not been without its problems since my house move three months ago.Repeated uninstalling and reinstalling seemed to solve the issues. If I had simply uminstalled the T Mobile modem I had used in the interim,I would have had a fraction of the hassle! The other day,I got almost four Meg,and watched Liverpools game against Man City without interruption.it was superb.Liverpool are guaranteed to drive you spare, but at least Three generally aren't!I found a free number to call them on saynoto0870.com,so the 40p per minute moaning brigade would do well to heed it.I bought a 12GB pack,so that suits me down to the ground. There is a forty quid dock for dongles, which acts in the same way as a mifi.To be fair, the extension lead seems to do the trick, but it must be said the signal is far better upstairs than down.Overall still a great service-maybe you shouldn't have to tinker so much, but life is too short to get worked up over such things!slowly, slowly, catchy monkey,as I always say.

I found this page after searching for answers to my 3 mobile problems. As many have also stated previously my connection drops every 5-15 minutes and will not reconnect unless I unplug and replace the modem. I've put up with it in the past as it has never been this bad, but now I've had it. I only look forward to the joy and expense of speaking to the no service centre and banging my head off the wall.

Back on Three after my erstwhile defection to T-Mobile.The coverage forecasting for my new house is supposedly sketchy, yet with some careful positioning and the use of the extension lead helpfully supplied,i get 4/5 HSDPA and have had 1.5 Mb speeds, albeit only upstairs.Talktalk and the others can get stuffed-i like mobile broadband,it`s convenient, straightforward and it works.Even though o2 is full 3G where i live now, past experience sets me against it.Their software is a nightmare, misleading etc.3 and T-Mobile win hands down in my book.Pay as you go is fine,as the 15GB thing is risible-like putting someone who has one drink a year into a distillery!!!!

The connection speed is quite simply awful, unusable most of the time. It hovers between 0.25mbps and (if you're lucky) 1.0mbps and this is with a full signal and a new faster LOLOL HSPA+ dongle. If you have the temerity to complain you will be called by someone from India saying that everything is fine with the network and the problem must be your computer. Absolute rubbish. Roll on the end of my contract. Although I'm sure I could get out of it with an "Unfit for purpose" defence. Do not buy from 3.

This is not so much of a review as it is a piece of advice really. I've had 3 mobile broadband for 5 months now and it was the same old story, first 3 months or so fantastic I even got a speed of 5mb once at my home riseing to an incredible 10mb in Manchester. However recently it has been slow and disconects ALL the time. I did abit of research about how I might improve the situation although I didn't hold out much hope. In the end I just decided to use the USB lead that came with my dongle. It has transformed my experience! It never disconnects now! Hard to believe that such a simple thing would change anything but it does. I know it's abit more of a pain to use than just plugging it into your computer but it does seem to make a difference for the better. People should try it and post their experience of the result on here. Hope that helps some people.

I was 3 months into a 24 month contract before 3 'switched on' my mobile broadband connection. No refund, no competent english speaking customer service advisor. Once activated, signal and connection were generally v.good in my area. Phoned to give notice of cancellation under terms of my contract 30 days before its expiry; after being subjected to 25 minutes of begging and offers to tempt me into staying, Ashwin eventually agreed to terminate my contract at its expiry in July. I've just had my bill for August land on my mat... and they have moved me onto a new contract £10 more/month than before. In conclusion, 3 are inept, lying thieves. DO NOT EVEN CONTEMPLATE ENTERING INTO A CONTRACT WITH THEM, THEY WILL NOT HONOUR THEIR SIDE OF THE AGREEMENT.

I'm told they sold some of the bandwidth I was paying for to 3Mobile. Idiots continued to bill me for 3m. after cancellation. Countless phone calls to sort it. Have had £15/m. MBB contract with 3 for 6m. now. Great to start with, now slowed right down. Sometimes unusable despite 3-connect showing full signal. Only one time was there a (hard-to-find) mention on their site of maintenance work. If they'd text me I'd be OK with it. But I'm guessing all providers are useless.

I would be curious to know how much of my allowances are lost due to having to reload pages because of time out issues and downloads which do not complete. It would be a lot I'm sure. I've used this in lots of different places and I have to say that generally it's pretty poor, especially at the times you most want to use it. Using it at the same address will inevitably cause problems because of severe traffic management. As an overall package and that includes the support, rather the lack of, there is much better out there and this should not be considered despite the low cost to use, which is actually the root of the problem. I was using this in London most recently where it is absolutely horrible and near to Glasgow previously where it wasn't much better.

I have emailed 3's Executive Office for the umpteenth time to try and get some answers as to why speeds have fallen dramatically since I moved to York and why this pattern occurred after my cancellation period passed by and in two other locations. I'm also trying to establish why browsing the internet is nigh-on impossible when a download is taking place. I had to point out to 3 once again that I do not wish to cancel, I just want what I signed up for and what I have received in the past. 3 keep telling me that I can cancel if I'm not happy - a very different situation to what appears to be a very large and frustrated number of customers who are not receiving a good service but are being denied the opportunity to cancel by 3. I think it's because I am not the kind of customer that 3 want - heavy user, complains a lot, posts a lot of negative comments online based on my experiences, so I think 3 would like shot of me. Thing is, I'm not going anywhere. While I keep getting an awful service from 3 which I constantly have to fight to maintain throughout my contract, then I'm going to keep commenting on it and keep advising others to stay well away from 3.

Further to my review dated 2/4/11 it's now a month since I asked 3 why speeds have dropped from a rock solid 400+ kilobytes per second at any time of the day to frequently less than 10, frequent dropouts, erratic, unstable, continually have to disconnect and reconnect, slow downloads. etc etc. Just horrible to use. It's 9 months since I asked why the same thing occurred when the cancellation period of my contract expired and I witnessed the same thing. It's 2 months since I spent some time in Chelmsford, Essex, witnessed exactly the same thing there too and asked 3 why that is. 3 know I like to stream music using my 15 gigabyte package which they sold me and which I have never exceeded in any given month, so what they do is cut my speeds back so much that trying to listen to internet radio is a miserable experience. 3 keep on reminding customers that this is for basic browsing and emails, yet continue to sell massive packages. I have told the 3 executive office before in emails that the longer they refuse to answer or address these issues, the more I will highlight it online and advise everyone to avoid 3 and their appalling customer support and use a reputable network instead. You see, I don't have any faith in the regulator easing my appalling customer experience with 3. This way I am making sure my message gets across and that the public are aware what a vile company 3 are, how disgracefully poor the customer care is. When 3 give me an acceptable service once again which they know they can give me and I know they can give me or stop evading my questions and give me some straight answers, then I'll stop. The same one that I kept telling them does not work and has not worked for months. So they assured me it will work on their website. Nope. No surprises there. Finally the situation was resolved when a manager intervened and asked a member of staff to do what they kept telling me they couldn't do. This is a typical experience with 3 customer services. Incidentally, it took ages to try and pay on their website because the connection was really slow (for a change) and the website wouldn't load (for a change). And another thing. 3 seem to think that customer care is not telling customers why they cannot provide them with stable connections and reasonable speeds, blaming everything under the sun apart from themselves and using automated systems which do not work for months on end with no apology nor explanation. Then after all that, directing an automated call to your contact number to ask you what you thought of your customer experience with 3. It's beyond belief. 3 clearly don't know or won't acknowledge why they are so awful and difficult to deal with, so why waste time telling them? There are internet reviews going right back to when this service started and it's the same criticisms time and time again. That's why.

How exactly does one do their own legwork? Do the hordes of dissatisfied customers who don't get what they signed up/topped up for descend upon the offices of 3 to find out why themselves because their ISP is systematically economic with the truth, unprofessional and incompetent? Can we stick to mobile broadband please? If I wanted to comment on ADSL, I'd visit the relevant pages to do so. 3 are a disgraceful company and what they excel at is creating customers with legitimate grudges, born from dire customer 'care'. I'm one of them. When this company stops treating those who keep them in business like utter dirt and when simple things cease to be long and protracted, then I and probably others like me will stop continually highlighting issues. The onus is on 3 to improve, not for me to stop bringing it to the attention of the public. In 9 months I've had issue after issue regarding billing, performance and my credit rating which has been wilfully damaged because 3 register credits (given in lieu of poor service) as unpaid bills. I don't like 3 and I don't like the way they do business. So if you don't mind, I'll stick with "ramblings". :)

But I tell them I don't have a laptop to do that - but they expect me to download software onto a friends computer in another area of the city - duh, dumn or what? I should take my imac to a Apple specialist to get it seen to as it is my computer (ok I'll do that with my 26" iMac!). I tell them, IT'S NOT MY COMPUTER, I HAVE 3 HERE AND CAN TRY IT ON ALL THREE AND THE SAME PROBLEM ON ALL - SO I DON'T REALLY NEED TO TRECK ROUND THE CITY HASSLING MY FRIENDS TO LET ME TRY MY DONGLE ON THEIR SYSTEMS! Having been with vodafone for 2 years now I tried 3 again (as VF mobile is so expensive) and I can now get a 3 signal here - but it only seems to work ok for a while (3G or faster HSDPA I could get) but like vodafone it has a really annoying habit of just stopping, and this can be a REAL pain when sending emails OR much worse doing freelance website work like updating a remote website and it's SO annoying to get disconnected then! I'm currently on PAYG but I don't think I'll be signing up for this service even though I can get a good signal as it's now almost 1am and I keep losing the 3 connection so it doesn't seem that reliable to me.

While speeds vary depending on where this is used, one factor which is absolutely diabolical wherever you are in the UK is 3's customer services. They are woefully bad. I have just had my fourth billing issue in 7 months which has resulted in being cut off 4 different times and all 4 were 3's fault, all 4 took a lot of calls and emails to be sorted out and all 4 were caused by lack of communication at 3 - one department telling the customer one thing, but not telling another department. Ironic really that a communications company which thinks it's the best is actually terrible when it comes to communicating. In a recent Which? Magazine reader survey, 3 were ranked lowest for customer services out of all the UK mobile networks. It's easy to see why and that alone is why you should avoid 3.

Never heard of a broadband service offering less than dial up speeds before ?? Am ringing support now for a resolution, I have just signed up myself and my girlfriend to 3 mobile phone contracts and am still within the 14 days cancellation period. I have had 3 mobile broadband for 18 months now but it is now worse than it has ever been – and it was pretty bad before, very unreliable. I moved to a new area in London a couple of months ago and for most of that time have had appallingly slow internet , although about ten days ago it became very quick, which lasted until three days ago since when I have NOT BEEN ABLE TO ACCESS THE INTERNET AT ALL – despite the Three Connect software saying I had been connected to the network, the dongle light being light blue etc. Absolute garbage. Every time I have phoned them up to complain and to see what the problem is I have been told there is no local issue they are aware of and you have to sit through all the patronising advice, such as being told to clear history, make sure “work offline” isn’t ticked etc – I’m sure they do all this just to deter people calling them. They don’t have any solutions to these recurring problems, but I have now had enough and will be moving onto another provider ASAP. If I am not getting satisfactory service am I able to rip up my contract and not pay them another penny?

Heard they have Indian call centre and companies give you hard sell if you try to cancel. Tactic was to give excuse I lost job, hopefully won't get sales. Wrong had £6 credit on phone before call, they keep putting you on hold and each time they come back they go straight into sales. Each time told them lost job can't afford they take no notice and put you on hold. Lost count No. times they did this, the last time they came off hold they even had the nerve to suggest I transfer it to another family member. One time I was on hold I was cut off, had run out of credit although didn't realise at time. I went to redial last number called and a completely different No. displayed to the 0843 No. I had phoned. Luckily they phoned back because if they didn't the call would of cost £15 just to cancel because I was on phone for 35 minutes total. Figured out later one of the occasions I was on hold line went totally dead, was just about to rephone when they came back. I realised that they had transferred call onto a premium rate No. without any warning once they knew I wanted to cancel to fleece more cash out of you. Have put my cancellation into writing by recorded letter as proof I gave them notice. Paying £10 more and going back to landline. BE AWARE they are well dodgy.

I have been a three broadband user for a few years. Yes it can be slow, but I am often in a place where I get no signal from anyone except O2. The problem I now have is this. In the past with three I could swap my sim between my phone and my USB modem. It kept separate running totals of the broadband and telephone elements. if I bought a £10 topup and redeemed it I could put £10 towards broadband and £5 towards calls. I cannot do this now as I am expected to immediately apply my topups towards the broadband. They appear to, OK have, changed the rules. There is no place on the site to redeem a voucher and then use it for phone calls as buying a minimum £2 topup only gives a day of broadband and it doesnt say what will happen to he other £8 (held in limbo until you redeem another chunk of it on broadband??). I do not need a second sim just for phoning. I don't do both simultaneously. I now have a £10 topup voucher that I am unwilling to use at the moment as the website doesn't say what will happen to the excess. I cannot find the 'terms and conditions' page at all so have no idea what I would be committing to if I do redeem the voucher. I do not expect to have to chase round on the phone or via emails to obtain information that should be up front. If I could rate them zero I most likely would in my present state of mind.

Overall for me the service has been quite good (minus the few bad days)and compared to my old one an improvement. Perhaps it is down to a mast location issue or maybe there are more people joining the 3 service which in turn may be slowing it down (i was told that is what happened with tmobile?) either way i think they should be trying to resolve the issue and if people cant use the service they should offer them a refund! Also your usb port could be what is slowing the dongle down! My daughters pc does not get fast speeds from my dongle, but her usb ports are not so good. This is a response to the previous comment on the forum.of course I can't account for the low speeds in your area.I am no more in control of that than the tides.I accept your point that the speed can be variable-mine has been as low as 300k in the past, and at certain times of the day lower still.the point I have been making all along is that if you consider how long the fibre optic cables that carry fixed line broadband have been in situ, then compare that to the handfull of years dongles have been around, there is no contest.equally,I am not naļve or blinkered enough to accept that the networks have a responsibility to uphold what they advertise, and in many cases mobile broadband has fallen short.my overall view is that although there are drawbacks to the service, and maybe you shouldn't have to tweak this and that and perhaps it should just work, every person in the land could cite an example of something pc-related which requires some semblance of effort to make it w ork.if that weren't the case and things never improved,we would all be on penny farthings or living in caves still.I say well done to 3 for having the gumption to hold their hands up and say,"this is what it does well, and this is where we could do better etc".I can only base my opinion on my own experiences, and for the most part they have been positive.I just think that peoples expectations far outweigh what the service is designed to provide.there are not many services that you can run for ten quid a month and be able to knock on the head as and when.try an internet cafe.its impersonal, expensive and only open for limited hours.for those who abhor 3,try O2 and you will soon be back.

It doesn't matter if the technology and concept as a whole is in it's "infancy". The technology is nothing new, if anything it is relatively old and we experience bad connections only because of living in a monetary system. In as little as a couple minutes we could all be receiving the best connections available, only limited by our actual network signal and nothing else. I live in Zone 2 London, so relatively central, and the only time I have really been able to get decent service though 3 mobile broadband is after midnight or on a very quiet day like xmas. I have spent hours on the phone with Indian customer service, who keeps reassuring me that the service in my area will be fixed in a few days time [after finally admitting that it is their problem and not some stupid thing like the cache on my browser], but it never is. I visited Carphone warehouse and the guy told me that 3 has been saying the service would be improved for the last 3 years! I now have Vodafone and while it gives only 3GB vs 5GB with 3 on the 15 quid monthly rolling contract, at least it works! I wish I hadn't wasted so much time with this horrid network, and wanted to warn others about it...if there was 0 stars, that's what I would give it...

Under normal circumstances I would compose and send this review with a 3 internet connection but because it's unusable for the eighth night running I can't. It isn't an outage because I connect successfully every time I try but nothing works for several hours each night. I'm still waiting for 3 to tell me why I have to use my orange phone to get online instead of their dongle.
