Sony Ericsson Z610i Review

Rating:
Date: 20/11/2006
The Sony Ericsson Z610i is a slim clamshell 3G phone weighing 110g. It has a shiny finish and comes in black, blue or pink. If the phone is lit up, the external display has a hidden mirror effect making the display invisible.
The phone has an excellent integrated camera for this price range. It has 2 megapixels and a 5 x digital zoom with video capabilities. The video clips can be edited using the Video DJ feature. With this you can create sequences from different clips and combine them with images and music.
It has a brilliant internal TFT display viewable in bright sunshine with 262k colours and a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels. The external display is OLED. You can only see the display when a call comes in and lights it up.
This phone has a media player allowing you to play MP3's and stream videos. It has an internal memory of 16MB and the space to expand this with an external memory card which is excellent to enable you to store more music and video files. The phone also allows you to make video calls, so you are able to see the person you are calling if they also have a video calling functionality on their phone.
Another excellent feature is the 72-voice polyphonic sound. This means that the phone can play 72 notes simultaneously giving a great sound quality to the polyphonic and MP3 ringtones.
The connectivity is great with Bluetooth and USB. You are able to connect wirelessly to another device with Bluetooth up to 10 metres apart, and connecting to a PC requires the USB cable.
The phone can connect to the internet with 3G which offers significantly faster data rates compared with GPRS or EDGE.
It operates on the quad-band frequency which means that it will work in Europe, America and Japan.
Overall this is a very good 3G phone with a great camera and excellent memory to support the media player. It is great value for money as the features are above average in comparison with others in this price range. We would recommend this phone.

Features of the Sony Ericsson Z610i include:

  • 3G

i got my black Z610i in Kuala Lumpa, Malaysia where I had been on duty. It's an excellent piece of equipment. Unfortunately it got stollen from my vehicle in Lusaka, Zambia. I miss it! It's an excellent phone which took care of all my instant business communication data! If I had a way to replace it, I would have re-invested in it again. Unfortunatel my part of the world, Lusaka, Zambia has not yet received that model. I miss my phone. In rating the same I would not give anything less that four to five stars.

I have been using it for around 1 year and it has not been giving me any problems. Even thought the design is not that attractive, it is a good phone and I plan to use it until it spoils. And it is easy to send text messages too^^

I got this phone a few weeks ago, and I have to say I'm disappointed. I like the look, and the user interface is reasonably good, but there seem to be so many features missing which I consider to be basic stuff. Specifically: - There is no coded keypad lock - this feature is important to me, because I don't like the thought of someone stealing all my business contacts, or if I drop it in a club and some idiot goes bonkers with it, phoning his mates in Aus etc - Distinct lack of "Grown-up" ringtones and text alerts. i.e. ones which a) are not excruciatingly embarrassing in a business environment and b) can be heard in noisy areas. - There is no way to change the alert tones for calendat items and the preset one is way too quiet. - The standard typeface is too big for composing text messages - you only get about ten words on a screen. No way to change it, despite the fact that received messages are displayed in a smaller typeface. - The software has all sorts of gizmos for synchronisation with Outlook etc, but why you can't just import or export tab-delimited or .vcf files? Or would that be too simple? This phone *could* be so good - but it feels like they forgot to put the "advanced settings" menu in...it's so frustrating!

Phone has excellent features, however, along with a lot of other people, the case has broken. The small retaining lugs for the battery housing broke the first time I used it. When I approached the vendor they showed me a fax from Sony Ericsson that they had already, to say that it was not covered by warranty as it was abuse!!! that broke it. Not happy Jan.

I got this phone not expecting too much bc of the various comments online ranging from really good to really bad. However, I was thrilled once I laid my hands on the phone. It's very fashionable and user-friendly. Whatever Karen from England and Liz said are true. It's got the best battery life among all the phones i've seen (I use the phone a lot and it last me 3 days b4 I have to recharge it.) If you expect it to be something extraordinary like N73 or K800, you won't get it. But if you're not a gadget geek and just need something that looks great and have basic functions, this is the perfect phone for you, as it is for me. The only thing is that I don't know how to turn off the 3g, would someone show me how?

I have recently bought this phone on pay as you go, i have had numerous phones before i do prefer flipphones, when i started to use this one i can only say this is the best phone i have every owned it does so many things like the voice dialling its text messenges is so easy and quick to use, and the keys are very well spaced and a nice size even for larger fingers to use, i can only say this is a very nice phone,if you want to save on battery power you can turn the 3g of which is what i have done.

I got this phone as a upgrade 2 weeks ago. I was thrilled with the looks of it. Not very long after I got a message saying 'sim inactive' I've never had that before??? Every time I looked at the phone to see what was on it I could see the battery life dwindeling before my eyes and thats without making or receiving calls or going on the interactive section. I was charging it every day. Another problem was when somebody rang you couldn't see who it was unless you have a brilliant eye site. I put the sim in the old phone on no problems so I sent it back very dissapointedly.
