The Sony Ericsson Z530i is an average mid-range camera phone. It weighs 93g and is a neat clamshell design. Sony Ericsson provides great personalisation by enabling you to change the external colour as a range of front and back covers are available. Some people have found the keypad difficult to use.
It has a basic VGA camera similar to most other camera phones of this type, although within the same price range it's possible to get up to 2 megapixels. Sony Ericsson have included the Video DJ feature which lets you edit video clips by combining and adding music and images.
The external display is monochrome. The main screen is colour but only supports 65k colours with a resolution of 128 x 160 pixels and is therefore not as highly specified as other phones of this type which offer up to 262k colours and 240 x 320 pixels.
A great feature that this phone offers is the built in music and media player which allows you to play MP3s and videos. The internal memory of 28 MB will not let you store many songs, videos, sound or pictures but you will be able to store more with a memory card. You can buy an external memory card of up to 1 GB.
The Z530i has 40-voice polyphonic and MP3 ringtones. The 40-voice polyphonic tones means that 40 notes can be played simultaneously. The Music DJ feature lets you create your own polyphonic ringtones.
The Z530i offers excellent connectivity with the option of Bluetooth, USB, and infrared. Bluetooth is the most sophisticated of the three and allows you to connect wirelessly to another Bluetooth device up to 10 metres away. When connecting with another paired device you are able to transfer and exchange various information from one phone to another or to other devices such as a PC.
The network connection for this phone is tri-band which is common for most phones. This means that it works in Europe and America but not Japan.
The battery life for this phone is very good. The standby time lasts up to 400 hours, and talk time lasts up to 9 hours.
Another feature this phone has is a speakerphone. This is a practical feature allowing you to have a hands free conversation.
The phone has an internet connection with GPRS. Many other phones in this price range have 3G or EDGE which are significantly faster.
Overall, this is a fairly average phone and we would not recommend it as there is more on offer for this price range in terms of features and quality.

i have had this fone for 2 years now, it was a hand me down from my friend. its a very old phone style do not buy!!! or you will get bullied, you defo will need a memory card if you decide to buy this phone.

ive had this phone for abt 2 yrs now, n im abt to upgrade since its simply outdated now but since ive bought it ive had absolutely no probs with it. it holds the charge for a very long time, plays loud mp3s, holds alot in its internal memory,plays video etc. my onli prob was the picture quality (its horrible) but ive always had my cam. also, i dnt realli like how the display shows my pix that i wuddve sent from the computer but...it functions exactly as promised an is very durable.

my brother had a phone like this and when he swapped to the RUBBISH lg i thought i was going to get the phone [turns out i did'nt] my mum got it and she dose'nt HAVE A CLUE how to work it you need to be experienced to work this phone start with simple. but if you know how to work it its great buy it and you'll find out!

I've had this phone for two years. It's done it's job for me, but I'm not obsessed with my phone. If you are one of those people who loves their phone, then this isn't the one for you. To be honest, the camera is practically useless. I can't make out peoples faces when I take pictures. The speaker is also very quiet compared to other phones. Overall score: 4.5/10

In the family we have had 4 of these for a couple of years and (other than accidentally destroying one by putting it through the washing machine while switched on - twice) have never had any problems with them. They are used as MP3 players constantly, either played through the car via the radio or tape adapter or via external speakers. They get a lot of abuse and, washing machine excepted, they stand up to it well just having to have a new crystal case occasionally. They are now dirt cheap 2nd hand and if you are looking for something to play MP3 and work well as a phone then go for it. If you want a top notch camera then why are you wasting your time reading this?

I love this phone, iv'e had it for like 2 years now and still not broke. I drop it on the floor and threw it a few times but it never seems to brake, just many scratches lmao. The camera isn't too good but it does the job if you just want it for a basic phone. When the memory gets low it does go slow. I love this fone but getting a new one as I feel it might go out on me soon. I would suggest this phone if you want a plain fone as the camera isn't good and doesnt include many exclusive features..xx..

I've had this fone for about 5 years now and its done me proud. The camera is good when theres just the right amount of lighting. the mp3 player holds about 6 songs and then the voice recorder enables 2 u record much more. holds upto 200 txts. calls r easy 2 make and recieve. overall its dun me good but i'm moving onto anotha fone but will sill keep this fone as a back up. i wud say its worth it if ur afta a long lasting fone.

ok.. here goes....i have formerly always used nokia.... always said it was the best.. but i tend to differ abt this phone..i have been usin it for a couple of months..its real good.... its got expandable memory..a pretty good mp3 player....if the lightin is proper it gives decent pics.... yeah... it not that loud...but its got a pretty good sound yeah abt the keypad its all together, , it taked dome time to get used to, but the keypad is pretty good, i totallly love this phone... its more than outstandin... hey for this price u cant ask for more... yeah it lacks radio... i miss it... plus its got extendable memory u can just get the songs u love into the phone... ps: my phone hasn't hanged for so long plus the looks are too good... gals a guys its a phone worth its price... ps am a very clumsy and rough user

I've had this phone for a year so I'll leave my comment. I'll be moving on to the K550i next month :). First, the looks. It's small and not very slim. Kindof chunky with an annoying hook at the back. As a result I preferred to go cargo or baggy. The camera, as others have touched upon, not the best. As with most SEs, it's okay in the daylight (okay because you can't expect much from a 0.4 VGA) and terrible at night. No flash so the 'night mode' doesn't make much of a difference. Four modes : Normal, Panorama, Burst and Frames. Also includes a fun FaceWarp. The buttons are okay for me. It takes a while but soon you get used to it. Especially coming from a person with big hands. The screen is so so. The external orange monochrome makes you squint to see it in bright daylight but the internal is fine. I never found any 'Style Up' covers in Malaysia so I can't comment on that. The menus are easy to use by the way. Also, the front cover is next to impossible to get off f or me. It plays MP3s although I find the internal memory lacking so you might want to get an M2 stick. Overall quite a decent phone but very basic. And only triband. Battery is okay. Don't really keep track but you should turn off Bluetooth because it drains the battery. Using the internet does that too. Bluetooth transfer is decent but I can't comment until I get my K550i and compare. MP3 player doesn't seem to drain battery much.

dis 4one is ok but when i listen to music on it it messes up and starts making dis noise like a radio tuning and it freezes .Does anybody else av dis problemo if so den wright a review. It aint append recently so its all ight. UDER den dis the 4one is great especialy the memory card slot.

I have had this phone for a fairly long time now and i think it is perfecting fine. The camera is good enough, though a bit grainy, it doesnt make you wait for a long time, the bluetooth & infared works really well. For me this phone nevr freezes. You can change the theme to the camera which is PRETTY cool :]. Just a good basic phone, looks ok, works well, and has loud volume. Not very good viabrate though.

I got this phone last year, in summer, and personally i think it's a great phone. The camera is not as good as i thought it would be but, it takes photo's that you can see what they are and that's all that's needed really.

Got the phone recently, its a good, well working phone for the price. i got it for 350 malaysian ringgit which costs about 103.615 USD. pretty resonable if you ask me. connectivity is good. 20 meters bluetooth connection, fast USB recognition, IR is ofcourse lame(tell me if there are any IR connection that works GREAT.. Please). the picture.... quite ok for a phone taking that there is an option for extended size of pictures. but if youre taking still picture, be sure to stay totally still. nevertheless, its good for the price. try it. i totally recommend it if youre not a tech junky.

This is my phone.It's great to use and very compact.The keypad is actually very easy to use and has a backlight on the keys.Great for night time!!I woould recommend this phone to people that want a small, compact, clamshell type of phone and loves to surf the net.THIS IS A MUST!!!

Great Phone without all the overkilll now associated with phones nowadays. I have had a E65, W 600, and V3 all in the last 6 months, this one beats them all. Good back to basics unit. Great reception, audiable speaker phone- unlike the E65- and great battery life!!! The SOny w600 and the E65 Nokia were always on charge/flat. Nice one sony.

I got this phone 4 my bday and i hate it! My music won't play for some reason, my phone randomly freezes or switches off by itself and the camera is horrible!I wouldn't recommend this phone.

I've had this phone a couple of months now and I'm really pleased with it. The battery lasts for nearly a week and I find the keypad really easy for texting. Unlike the previous reviewer, who only gave this phone 2 stars, I don't use bluetooth and videos a lot - if I did I would expect to pay for a more sophisticated phone. I text a lot and make quite a few calls and it's proved to be a brilliant little phone.

I've always been a Nokia user, and have been daunted by the thought of changing phone brands, especially since Nokia is renowned for it's great user friendliness. However, after gettting the Z530i, i dare say that Sony Ericsson has come a long way, and maybe even surpassed Nokia. In short, the features of the Z530i: Good camera with real flash. Though the protruding koni shocks lens cover is prone to sliding open in your pocket. Very large, clear, and bright screen. Nice user interface and menus. Easy to use. Good organiser (calendar, alarms, etc.) Nice bundled software (Facewarp, 3D games) What attracts me to phones are its features, and this phone has most of the features u could want. Cons: Battery life seems shorter than what is advertised. Don't know if it's the network (3), but signal drops off and on, sometimes goes to roaming. Would like a PDF viewer. Phone does not come bundled with an external memory card.

Its rubbish. The reality is it's poor quality in every aspect.. sound camera memory reliability. The only good thing was that i could put a 2gb card and hold all my songs. Its totally deteriorated over 6months, it barely works and it cuts on and off during calls. I wouldn't recommend, although it's cheap it will let you down. You're better off spendin a bit more and getting a decent phone that you can rely on.

This phone is only AUS$280.00 For that price it really is an AWESOME mobile! I brought a 512mb memery card for it, (AUS$50.00), and now I have 85 full mp3 songs on it, and still more space for new ones! The keypad does look like it would be hard to use, but it's not really that bad. I can now text quite fast on it! And the 'Monochrome' screen on the outside, It's the most easiest thing to read ever! I don't know where they got the CRAZY idea that it's hard to read! Even in the sunlight, you can read it with ease. I have had it for over 6 months, and it had frozen says, once or twice in that whole time. For the price, I recommend this phone Love it.

I had this phone for a couple of months now and i am yet to find a fault with it. It does everything a phone is suppose to do (calls and texts)I agree that the picture clarity is not outstanding but it is a phone not a camera. I am also especially pleased with amout of memory that this phone has. I would recommend it to anyone.

The phone is pretty good. The camera's not very good though and battery life could be better. As a phone its easy to use and comfortable in the hand. Speakerphone is loud enough to be heard whilst driving but obviously not as good as the bluetooth headset option that i got with my phone. Shop around and they can be got quite cheaply now. A decent, easy to use phone.

This phone i have got to say is the worst. i got this phone last year and thought that it wouldnt be so bad, but turns out that the camera quality is not good at all and the screen resolution is really poor. what really gets me is that sony ericsson have put really good features on this phone such as, bluetooth, infrared, mp3 player, expansion slot etc, but hadnt thought about the camera and screen. why not just put a TFT screen instead of a UBC one. Who puts a UBC screen on phones nowadays? sorry but you've let me down sony ericsson!

Just bought it 3 days for Just Rs. 5,900/- (131 US Dollars). Dont kno y such bad comments for this cute looking mobile worth its price. The Display is wonderful. Signal Strength and Battery is awesome. And an upgradable memory slot. Camera is working fine in my fone. with neat pictures. Just one problem. The battery takes 2 hours to get fully charged. Overall its a great fone...

A Good phone choice, Has blue tooth, a camera (although only VGA), hands free, speaker and removable memory. if it werent for the bugs and glitches. this would be the greatest value for money phone. Common bugs include bluetooth not detecting/ not working, randomly shuts itself off (usually from the impact of the cloing flip)Battery life image fake (e.g. showing a near full battery when the capacity was down to 20%. Also compared to the w300i the headphone jack is very lose and eaisily comes off.

i got this phone few months back. I think it's a great phone compare to the price. i dont have any problem with the bluetooth. i love the keypad. really nice to press (i text a lot!). The camera is ok i guess, it's not great, VGA, what do you expect. The only thing that slights me a bit is the screen resolution. But that's just a tiny bit of problem. This is truly a nice phone.

I think the sony ericsson z530i is brilliant because it is all that i want and my friends got it and i will only have it if it has bluetooth (as it does)music player as it does camera and video as it does so out of 10 8 or 9 out of 10

Iv'e had this phone for bout six months, at first it was brilliant but basic, but now it freezs and doesent hold its charge and tuns itself of, was thinking of getting a knew one cause still a nice basic fone.

Its basically a walkman phone (w300i) but it isnt very loud thats the only thing i would say is bad about it. The bluetooth is all you would expect from a sony ericcson. It's got nice in build memory. Altogether its a very good phone for someone on a budget.

i think the phone is absolutly amazing i have had it eversince it came out the onli problem is with it is wen it crashes but it doesnt matter it has a lot of memory to store tones and vids and pics and to any 1 who buys i it is well worth the money

This is a good all round phone as it has good buttons for texting, a couple of good games, some alright ringtones and it's got bluetooth and infared! The only thing i would say thtas wrong with it is that the camera and the screen aren't very good!

My first one of these lasted exactly 3 hours. I had to wait 2 weeks for the company to replace it and the new one doesn't ring half the time - just goes straight to my voice mail.

i used to have a slightly cheaper fone so 4 my bday i got dis 1. First of all da camera n video quality is horrible i dont even take pics wit my fone coz dere is no point dey look lyk rubbish. The keypad is hard 2 txt wit n my bluetooth doesnt work 2 greatly. My older, cheaper fone was a lot betta it has good quality camera, infrared dat always works and a gud keypad! I think im going bak 2 dat fone!

I got this for my birthday..... I think its Kool it lookz good and its got good stuff but da picture quality is really bad and i luv taking picz So I am a bit dissapointed but i still love it.

i think this fone is to to boring the camera is rubbish it doesnt work properly and it is bad quallity.Sometimes i find it hard to get signal,and i should point out for about a month it froze out on me it just stopped working i tried charing it and it never worked.The fone is just bad quallity all around but however it is a good size and a nice shape.

This phone has the most annoying keys ever made!! The content is decent, camera is ok, kinda dissapointing though.. But the thing i hate the most is the keys! It takes me sooo long to text, compared to what I was like on my nokia, i am a very fast texter(im a teenager :D lol ) and i press wrong keys on this phone and they are hard to press. The design of this phone is ok. I dont like the big thing on the back..it looks like handle. This phone is too bulgy/big/whatever! Sound is ok, but i don't use it. I am currently stuck between choosing a Motorola L6 and Motorola L7, if you have any advice, email me on dead---@hotmail.com Sony ericsson has made some great phones(ive had 4) and I've been satisfied with them all, except this one. I cant wait to get a new one! This phone is very annoying...altough the Face Warp feature is fun.

I dont agree that this phone has poor quality and poor bluethooth function as above said in the review. This phone has the looks and good connectivities and a attractiveness. though u have also a extandable memory which is very good. we have an mp3 in it which is very good. It may be of some problem to other customers that there phone is defected but although 2 me its a wonderful phone.

The phone is ok to use for phoning and texting , when you get used to it trying to slip out of your hand but , the camera is rubbish . It is far too grainy . The sagem myx7 has a much superior camera .

Its a phone not a camera or an ipod!!! If you want average photos and average sound in a phone with great blue tooth thats really cheap then buy the Z530i.If you want great photos or great sound spend a couple of hundred dollars more, its affordable and does the job!!! To all those complaining about performance of camera and screen you should have read the specs before buying and to those complaining about the phone making squeeky noises, its a flip phone with interchangable covers what do you expect for the price. GET OVER YOURSELF, THE PHONE IS VALUE FOR MONEY!!!!

i got this phone when it first came out, it was great for the first couple of weeks but then i started having problems. it kept shutting down, freezing and wouldnt even let me pick up calls! i got it re booted and its been ok latley except its still freezing. i think the memory is rubbish and it isnt the loudest of phones but the blue tooth is very good and fast the camera is good to.

I got this phone 4 my bday and i think its alright. I havent had any major problems with it except when trying to download music. The camera is horrible its very poor and the battery does not have a very long life. As 4 da phone being ugly it certainly is not and i have not had any problems wit the bluetooth or infrared. Judging by the other comments i am definitely keeping my receipt and warranty because ive only had it 4 about a week now. btw it doesnt have much memory space!

why do u ppl complain so much? it costs rm 699 here and tht's cheap/. most phones at tht price are basic colour or camera phones but in the z530i u get a camera(isn't good but) ,a good mp3 player etc etc. wht's to complain about? true, it does crash occasionally but which phone doesnt? wear and tear. --i've had my phone for half a year now and i've had absolutely no problems with it.

from my other review i have changed my mind!! the camera is yellow! mp3 playback is poor! it goes Insert Sim then restarts itself and often freezes. but my last W550i Did the same aswell i am thinking on changing my fone to a motoroa L7 It is just the same as the walkman only the camera is poor! and the walkman is not orange! its like a white colour

I've bought this phone in middle december and it works fine. I've added a 512mb memory stick M2 and it works very well with the headset. The sound quality is nice, and the sound reachs volume more then enough to not become a deaf guy. I don't use the bluetooth headset and I hate the way it plugs to may phone (toooooo large connector). But that is no big deal because it ends with my demand of carry all the time a phone and a mp3 player, with the advantage that I always know when the phone rings because it stops the music. For me its nice enough. It works with Linux as a pen-drive. As a matter of fact it opens as 2 pen-drives, one for the phone and the other to the memory stick. Once you end any one of the connections it stops both connections. The way it write over the previous files in the mem stick it's not working fine and every time you end an usb connection after write mp3's to the mem stick it become veeeeery sloooooooow to end the connection.

dis fone is reeli gud, it has loads of features, da downside is SE dont giv u a mem card, or a cable 2 connect wid PC.Da features r cool but cud do wid a 1 mega pixel camara at least, but its a cheap an full of features an well worth da money. BUY DIS FONE!
