don't ever buy this phone. Touch screen is a big problem for W960i and the SE customer service in US not truely like to help you solve the problem. i bought my phone since Jan 8, 2009. After 6 months using, my W960i touch screen stop working. I call and chat live with SE customer support ask for help. They kicked me like a ball, I send my proof of purchase to them twice at 919-573-0394 Attn: Jamie then Stefphanie but they said they could not find it. They told me fax it again. I called my seller and fax it to them again at Attn: Superviser Joey and they say they will call me when the fax coming. I keep waiting and never got a phone call from them. I go online and live chat with Agent Alisa, she told me keep waiting for Joey call. SE make me feel very bad. They make a mistake on there product and not willing to fix it. I would never buy any SE product in my life

Had the phone for a year. Cannot say it's the best phone i have encountered. Have had problems with it from day one. The only good use i got out of it, was the 8GB memory. Right this moment. The touch screen hasnt been working for near on... 8 hours now. I dont know how the problem has occured, But a pain in the arse having to use the scroll option on the side of the phone. The screen had cracked which i had to wait over a month and a half to get it back (when i was told 2 weeks). Costing me £80.00 from the 02 store. I cannot see how the screen would have cracked, but i do think it may have something to do with the touch screen not working. The battery is very poor. Quite laggy aswell. I wouldnt recommend it to anyone.

Got this phone last summer and since then I have had the device i have loved it. The touch screen is a great feature although the onscreen qwerty keypad is pointless because it is so small and therefore a pointless feature. The one problem i have with the touch screen is that sometimes it can be unresponsive and a few times I have needed to reinstall the software. The keypad is slightly too small but for me it is the feature which I need in a device because I find touch screen texting difficult. I believe by moving or re-moving the back, c and walkman keys, the numeric keypad could have been bigger and then easier to use. The camera was adequate but could have been five megapixels easily. Also the massive circular design around the lens is a design flaw as it always gets tons of scratches. The back cover also consistently gets scratches and damages which is annoying. Overall though I think this phone is amazing. i love the camera, 8 gb of internal memory and the touch screen.

This phone is fun as a novelty to begin with, yet becomes such a nuisance after using it for a while. There are many amazing features on it that are particularly useful if you are using it as a business phone, however, the cons far outweigh the pros. Perhaps the most irratating thing about this phone is its speed. When trying to bring up a message or open up your inbox, it can take easily several seconds to come up. Another irritating issue with this phone is where the walkman button as been placed. More often than not when texting, this button is accidentally pressed, meaning your message is cut off half way through and you have to deal with an extremely slow walkman device before being able to close it and open up the messaging again. This is extremely frustrating if on the move never mind when concentrating. Another issue is the responsivness of the touch screen. There have been many times that i have been on the phone and it has hung up because my cheek rubbed against the screen. Poorly designed in my opinion. Don't buy this phone. You look the part, but you want to throw it out of your window after the few weeks of use of the wifi and walkman capability. It needs to be faster and for the main features to actually work! Rubbish Rubbish Rubbish. Even the wifi is a pain, incredibly slow and loses connection more often than it has one. Rubbish. The walkman is slow and the sound quality just doesn't compare to an ipod. Rubbish. The phone is huge and lumpy in your pocket. Rubbish. The camera... Rubbish.

Had this phone for 9 months now. It's great.. however unlimited message storage if you have more than 800 texts the whole phone slows down to a level hard to use. Takes about two weeks to get used to, but after that its pretty good. Mine has now died, back, 1 and 4 don't work and the touch screen is intermittent on whether it will work or not. My advice is if you're willing to spend this much get an iPhone. It's a good phone but after 6-7 months it looses the thrill and just becomes a pain.

this phone was excellent for the first year or so but then it just broke, the camera was the first to go with the phone freezing up completely when the camera option was selected; the only way to get the phone to work again was to take the battery out. The touch screen then became very un reliable for it would work one minute and not the next meaning some of the options were not able to be used. the rest of the phone is amazing though and i wish these two things werent broken on it because otherwise it is extremely reliable!!!

Having had this phone for about 8 months I loved it. It did have a few bugs - like it never recognised my boyfriends number when he rang and asked everytime he called if I wanted to add it to my contacts, but, overall, it was excellent. Unfortunately my screen suddenly stopped working over a month ago, for absolutely no reason and I had to return it to O2. O2 can't replace the handset at the moment so it is with real disappointment I have had to settle with a W980i instead...hopefully that will be just as good. For anyone thinking about buying this phone I really found the good outweighed the bad - and if I could have another one instead of the W980i I definately would.

I am on handset number 4, but the problems do not resolve. It switches itself off, crashes and I really cant be bothered with the hassle of using it.Do not buy this phone unless you want to save money on your monthly bill as you simply wont use it

So far i found no problem of using it.. Walkman is really great, and so does the camera! And any other apps. Some people said that they find it hard using the stylus all the time, but i didnt. You can even use your fingertips.. That'll make it way easier. And yet this phone is never slow.. Its just that when you turn it on, it'll take a minute. To me, this phone is just like a mini-notebook. And imo, this phone can beat a lot of phones such as N81, N95 8Gb, iPhone and the latest G900i. Thanks for reading :)

Been using this phone for about a week now and generally I am pleased with it. I have struggled with having no D pad for navigating the screen without using the touch screen, but apart from that its been as good as I expected. I flashed Generic software onto it to lose the O2 branding and have found that the phone is MUCH quicker now. All in all, I am happy with the phone, its much easier to live with than my previous SE phone (P990i). One last thing, the Walkman program on the phone has some great features, but a couple of the on-screen buttons are too small to use with your thumb and the volume doesnt seem very load (but this may be done to my headphones, and the £2 adapter I use to plug normal 3.5mm headphones into the SE port on the bottom of the phone due to frustrating lack of a headphone socket built in).

Sadly one of the worst mobile phones I have ever owned. I thought this handset was going to be very good, but sadly as with any technology in it's early stages of development, it has it's issues. Just using the phone, you can tell that Sony Ericsson are new to this game. It's rather laggy, the text messaging is so slow compared to smaller handsets that allow texts to be sent in seconds. The touchscreen also appears to be poor. The only thing I really liked about this phone is the scroll wheel on the side, and I can't see why Sony Ericsson don't add this to all of their phones, it's fantastic.

Be warned if you buy a SE phone which is Vodafone branded you are in for a few disapointments. As you can see Original SE is a bit above the Voda.. in price to you what does tis mean. All of you have negative opinions about SE phones is because you went for the cheaper option just go original then you see the diferance. You'll kick all other made out of you life & stick with SE. Now thats a fact. Vodafone is spoiling SE's reputation & if SE doesn't look at it with a new angle it may well loose greatly so. Most of you the complainants have branded hadsets. Go original then you'll see. Ask yourself how can such a good crafted & highly expensive headset be a rubish of all things it can be.

Hate it hate it hate it hate it. This phone is rubbish! Don't let them talk you into getting it. I should be okay with it as I've had a couple of Sony Ericsson phones. However - you'll scratch it immediately just by having it in your pocket, music is a nightmare to load onto it with loads of "errors", you can't send a text quickly, there is no joystick to do simple things like scroll through to delete a word on a text, you need the stylus ALL the time, it is slow, if your cheek touches the wrong part of the screen whilst on a call it cuts them off, touching the wrong part of the screen while rummaging in your pocket to answer your phone cuts them off, the camera is poor, internet connection rubbish and slow, battery life is rubbish. Unless the phone is sat beside you all of the time and you have both hands, no life and alot of time and patience to use it - don't bother getting it. It has too many features and is a jack of all trades but master of none. It's too trendy and not functional - although the old joysticks used to stick, believe me - you'll want one again after this thing. If you want music - buy an iPOD. If you want a personal organiser - buy a diary. If you want a phone which has a battery life that lasts longer than two days, a phone which is capable of writing a text within a day and won't want you to smash it - buy a nice little SE or Nokia. Or take the free upgrade, sell it on ebay and then buy a proper phone and a real iPod!

Now that I've had this phone for over 3 months I felt it was time to write up a quick review. First impressions are that it's a nice looking phone, it fits nicely in the hand, and people always ask what it is! I had to send back my original handset because one morning, for no reason, it just locked up, and then would never start up properly. O2 replaced this within 2 days, and the new one has been fine. Definitely update the firmware, and buy the pro-version of the media manager software so you can transfer videos. In terms of use, the biggest thing it has over the iPhone is the physical keypad. The keys are big, clear, and have a good action. I can't stand touch screen only keyboards, and whilst I admit the iPhone's version is better than the rest, it's still not good enough. The downside of this is that the screen is smaller, and, being a touch screen, there are some things that really do need the stylus as they are just too small. But for the most part it's bareable, once you get used to it, and once you've set the shortcuts up properly. The Camera is alright - the K800's one is better though, the LED flash, whilst much better than the old style ones, is still no match for a Xenon, but all in all, the pictures are usable, especially daytime shots. The UIQ3 os is a bit sluggish though, it is important to close applications you aren't using to free up oporational memory, and I found turning off the menu transitions really sped things up, without actually looking any different. Web browsing is good, but I installed the Opera Mini application and use that over the custom Opera Mobile that has been bundled with the phone, it's much better. Google maps works a treat though, as does the Gmail application. And finally, on to the walkman, well, the sound's fantastic, and with the firmware upgrade, the wait between songs is much less. I'd have to say the touch screen really works well with the walkman interface, Sony have obviously put some effort in here.

Its OK, but not super. I bought this phone for working and most of its "smart phone" functionality is pretty good for that task. There are a few niggles, I was recommended this over the Nokia N95 8Gb because the battery life was supposed to be better. The Nokia must totally suck because I have to change to a fresh battery once a day. (I have had to buy a spare.) On a busy day I might have to use three batteries. The alarm function is balls. Able to set three alarms for one day? I don't need this...I need a god damn alarm that I can set for whatever time of day I need and the damn thing will actually go off!!! Its a strange shape in the hand and because its slim you can't really rest it between shoulder and ear, which makes a hands free set necessary if you want to write something down while on the phone. Its a touchscreen, its large and it looks nice with good colours...however, the screen is quite fragile. I recommend some kind of special case. The screen apparently has 2 user settings, normal or dimmed....I have never been able to get this function to work, I think its buggy. Onboard rather than removal flash memory was a mistake, flash memory can die over time/use...not being able to install a fresh memory is a serious design oversight.

This fone is great, best phone i ever had. Got 2 weeks ago. So far its working fine, sometime it do freeze(which most phone do, including n95) or cant go back n c button cant be use delete an items dat u want. I was using w900 b4, which was i may put good. That because the socket which i connect my earphone or charger is a little loose when i connect it. Otherwise, i would have been surperb to. Well let get back to w960. Yes, its a little slow to start music about 2 or 3 sec (dat 3 sec, which is not dat slow as they say) n when lanching application is a bit slow sometime. But that is normal, even n95 is like that n most phone is like that. My bro is n95. I could have bought n95 if i want to, but i bought w960i instead. that depenps on your choice.

This phone has ONE MAJOR fault because of the touch screen I find calls being put on hold because the phone is held too close to my cheek and my cheek / ear accidently touches the screen and puts the caller on hold. THIS is a major problem and I would not advise anyone to buy this phone for this one reason. I have spoken to SE and there is no work around for this - I was just told it must be the way I made my calls! But I don't think I'm alone in putting a phone up to my ear when I want to speak to someone...

I've had this phone since April but I only really use the WiFi, camera & Walkman bits- ie I don't use it as a phone! I went back to my little V630i for actually calling- this was because lots of the times people couldn't call me- the phone wouldn't even ring. Also the quality/ loudness of the calls weren't great. And it crashes if you try to do more than one thing at a time- esp if you're on the internet & someone calls! Apart from thats its OK- down loads Google maps and make it into a SatNav- this is v good esp if you get lost easily (like me)... Also the Walkman & camera are nice enough- camera has flash also. Shame its not as good as I hoped- very disappointed really- just pleased that I didn't have to pay the full price as I got it as an upgrade

I've had an N95 for a year, and it was time for my upgrade. The build quality of the N95 and amount of features I never use (already got a SatNav, don't play games, etc), got me looking further than the N95 8Gb, and I ended up getting the W960i. Great phone, does everything I need it too, and I like the option of keypad or touch keyboard. It's smaller and lighter than the N95, battery life about the same (about 2 days with normal use), and a much classier phone, the soft case is a very welcome addition to the package. Sure it has a few quirks that will take a while to get used to, but every phone does, but I haven't had any faults so far, and a firmware update should fix anything else. Looking at these reviews, you either love it or hate it, and I love it!

Well the W960i... before I bought this I decided to read some reviews and saw some pretty bad reviews of this phone; however I decided to buy it anyway as I was assured by the network that it was very good. I have to say that having had this phone for two weeks I am absolutely 100% happy for buying this phone as it is quiet simply an amazing phone! All this trouble people seem to have with the touchscreen interface... you must just have bad hand-to-eye coordination and hitting the wrong buttons because it is fantastic. I've used the iPod Touch and think that considering that the screen is 3 inches bigger (approx.) on the iPod that this phone has one of the BEST touch screens out there. The Symbian OS is also very good although I guess because I don't use this phone for business applications and more for the Walkman aspect I don't get the most out of it but it's nice to have and makes the phone look much better in terms of on-screen. The white strip around the phone also I think looks really very good and adds to the aesthetically pleasing image that this phone portrays both externally and internally (OS etc.). I think people giving this phone any less than 4* must just be working for Nokia and trying to give this phone "bad press" as overall IT IS A BRILLIANT PHONE!!!!!

I am a huge SE fan but the W960i is a huge disappointment! As a consequence of this I have turned to the dark side and am now using the Nokia N95 8gb which is a far superior phone. I wanted to love the W960i but the frustrating user interface, poor quality camera and slow boot up times prevented the flagship walkman phone from winning me over. This could have been a 5 star phone but I'm affraid Nokia's N95 is a much safer bet, better luck next time SE!

Was unsure about getting this phone based on the mixed reviews below, but boy am i glad i took no notice of the negative reports. Had the phone for just over 3 weeks now, and it is an incredible peace of technology. Touch screen is very very responsive no issues, I love the user interface no issues what so ever. Music player is obviously superb love how it shows all the album covers as u flick through your files. The sound quality is excellent as u would expect from sony. The video player is also awesome...i have put a couple of movies onto the phone and its tv quality playback, even sharper picture than on my ipod video IMO. WLAN works like a dream and browsing the web is easy with the big screen. The camera is top top notch, this is my first SE and i knew from my brothers phone that they have the best cameras of any of the other mobile manufactureres by a mile. I also had a 3 mega pix cam on my last phone(samsung) but this one in terms of picture quality and every thing else blows that crappy samsung cam away. The zoom feature on the w960 when lookin back at your pics is also amazing and really highlights just how good the camera/lens is. As well as all that i find texting/calling very easy as you have the standard phone keys. And as for looks, this phone is the slickest looking mobile out on the market today for me, much slimer and cooler than the bulky, ugly N95.

Got this phone last week, and I'm pleased with it. Here goes for a quick review... Build quality is very good, and the phone manages to look shiny without being too much of a fingerprint magnet. Both the touchscreen and the keys are WAY better than the w950i. The flat keypad of the w950i has gone, and the touch screen has been greatly improved. It's now possible to use it fairly easily with your fingers. The touchscreen will only react if pressed and won't go nuts if brushed against. The camera is second to none for it's class. The flash is very bright, and it takes pictures comparable to the N95's camera. The new Walkman player is excellent, the best ever MP3 player of a phone I've used, although it can be laggy if playing music at the same time. Shame of the omission of a 3.5mm headphone jack. Battery life standby is about 3-4 days (Turn the wifi standby off! It KILLS the battery) and 2 days for moderate use. Now, the w960 uses a Symbian OS, which as we know can crash occasionally. The worst crashes occur when unstable software is run, but if the phone is running rock-solid software it is pretty stable. It's not the fastest ever, but that is to be expected with most smartphones. If you want a lightning fast OS then don't buy a smartphone, simple as that! Buy this phone for: An excellent Mp3 player, the best allround Symbian smartphone with touchscreen and wifi, a head-turning phone with second to none build quality. Don't buy this phone if you're looking for simplicity, excellent stability, amazing battery life, or GPS. For a Symbian phone, five stars.
