One year later and it's still one of the best phones out there. I get people saying "Ohh It's got no camera!" Well who needs a camera? There's plenty out there that are better than what you'd get on this. Get a phone and a camera separate if you're so bothered about a damn camera 5 STARS!

I bought this phone a few months ago..The things that I dont like about this phone is that it seems to shut down or freeze alot. The battery only lasts about 24 hours. I cant seem to send messages out anymore.But the things I do like about it is that its touchscreen. The amount of memory it holds.But ifI coould please get some help on how to send messages out could you please help me

yeah umm i gave it 3 stars cuz im actually commenting on my friend's fne.. he'z gt the w950i nd he says dat it's fantastic.. bt me and my friends disagree wit him.. well i mean yeah it is a 4 gig, it has touch screen, it's 3g and a triband fne as well.. it's a walkman! hw good iz dat??.. bt i dnt knw bcuz i hav a nokia n95, nt the black 8 gig wun the silver/plum wun wich is the kinda lyke da base model of da n5.. i gotta admit n95 is a wonderful fne.. i mean y get the w950?.. get the n95.. it's gt a music player as well nd on da top of dat it has a 5 megapix carl zeiss camera, also a 3g smartfne bt it's quadband, it doesn't have a touch screen bt it is a dual slider fne, slides in both ways.. Bt i'm nt against about it.. sony fnes are real gud in design nd in features as well.. w950 also compete wit other smartphones bt just da lack of camera is just a let dwn.. bt therez always a p990i.. l0lz..

this phone is great! the touchscreen is cool. Who needs a camera on their phone anyway? We have all taken them for granted, i very rarely use my phone camera, get your mate to bluetooth it to you. the walkman is amazing best sound quality got it on 3 not much branding but don't get it on orange: terrible branding on the phone! must buy 10/10

I have this phone for a year now. The phone is well below my expectations. I am a resident of Nigeria and things here arent cheap. Paid USD 750 equivalent for this phone and that too without any service support or usable warranty. My first problem was when after a couple of months of use, the touchscreen suddenly stopped working. Got the touch screen repalced for USD 100. The other problem is the call volume. Its very low even at the highest setting. The phone freezes occasionaly and takes a long time to start. The keys are not very comfortable to use....i dont know what else to say.....on the other side, the walkman player is very good. The looks are good too, although sometimes the stylus just comes out from its place and i even lost one.

I like w950i becouse it have a large display, 4gb memory and touchscreen. And dislikes are that it is very slow, keypad is very thight and somethimes when phone is on people cant call me. I know there is very big mistakes in writing but I still learning for that :) I am from Latvia

My touchscreen doesn't work- there wasn't any troubleshooting problems related to this problem on the website.. But this was a great phone until that problem came along, can't even use it!

This phone is awful! I have had mine for a few months now and it is the worst phone ever. It switches itself off, constantly locks up so that you cannot make or receive calls, is terribly slow to start up when switching on, and is constantly telling me I don't have a simcard. Wouldn't give it to my worst enemy for their birthday!

I've had this phone for 5 months now and I love it! It can hold up to 4,000 songs and the sound quality is really good. Although other people have said their phone crashes all the time mine never has. The best thing about it is that it has an excellent battery, using it for everything every day and I only have to charge it every 2-3 days. It's amazing!

The sony ericsson w950i is alright it does everything you need apart from taking pictures because it hasnt got a camera but personally I have never really needed the use of a camera because I am always on the internet or on the walkman. The battery life could be better but it can last a whole day if you dont spend a long time on the internet and yes it can freeze a couple of times and can be slow at loading up applications and games but apart from that the phones is great!

I have got the sony ericsson w950i and it is the best phone in the world and I think that everyone should have. OK its not got a camera but I have another phone with a 2 megapixel camera on it and near enough everyone has a digital camera anyway!!

i bought this phone for �100 reconditioned from orange. Despite not having a camera this phone is 5 star. with 4 gb internal memory and a great music player i think it rivals my ipod touch in quality. the touch screen is great to use and is much more practical. With things like handwriting recognition and on screen keyboard, texting is a breeze. The looks are stunning and the screen is loveley and big. buy this phone, i stonlgy recommend

Got this phone only a week ago and it's already freezing. it also struggles to do more then one thing at once. It's a horrible phone and the keypad is just as bad. Writing a txt takes forever. Wish i didnt sell off my Nokia 6280!!!! :( DON'T BUY THIS PHONE!

In my opinion the W950i has to be the most underrated Sony Ericsson phone of all time due mainly to the inescapable fact that it doesn�t have a camera. Not that having a camera on my phone or not bothers me in the slightest but I get the impression that the phone looks, feels and operates like a prototype model hence the unreliable O.S. and Frankenstein-like combination of touch-screen, keypad and jog-wheel. Once you allocate a little more time to get used to the feel of the user interface and you install the latest firmware from the website (I�ve gone almost three days since updating my W950i without a single crash) (I also recommend using EAR CANAL type headphones when listening to the Walkman) you�ll begin to see why so many people sing its praises � to put it simply, its in a class of its own. Priced on Amazon for less than �150 brand new, sim free and unlocked it represents unbeatable value for money as well.

An excellent phone. I don't like phone with camera after using Nokia N93 since it's useless to me. Music quality is much better than what I have from an iPod. Light and small enough. I love this phone. Maybe I'll go with SonyEricsson for their new phones.

This phone is very good overall. It does take a while to boot up (so what?) but having all that memory for tracks and a nice touch screen is great. Sound is brilliant. Listen to music, take a call, after call auto back to your music. Mic in headphone lead. Nice. Someone forget to allow u to delete alarms, so the damn things rings out all previous alarms which is annoying. Great to set your own music tracks for ringtones/alarms. Bad point is the headphones slowly depreciate, and they're expensive to replace (�35). got through 2 in 1 yr. They go really quiet. Overall totally recommend this baby!!

damn good phone! my sister today bought the samsung u600 and the guy in the shop said that the u600 was better! when my sister told me that i laughed and asked why, she said he said it was a year old and all i could say was that a phone thats a year old still is a lot better than what you just bought!! love the phone, it freezes rarely but its so rare it doesn't bother me, only problem ive had is that i think the aerial is brocken and i have a courtesy phone( a sharp) and im ready to kill my self after a week!!!! i would strongly recommend this phone and i really cant wait until the w960i! 5/5!!

This is the worst phone I've ever had, I made the mistake of giving away my trusty w800i as I was told by Orange this was worth the wait and would be an excellent phone. Had 5 new handsets in 6 months - different problems everytime. Battery going flat, keylock switching itself on and off continuously, screen freezing, a soft(!)battery (and no it wasn't near a heater) and finally the screen doing a 'matrix' on me (green letters and lines scrolling down the screen). Am about to swap to a k810i as really missed having a camera. Walkman was best thing about this phone but you know what get a different phone and buy an ipod!

i really like this phone, the menus are easy to use and the touch screen with the stylus makes inputing text easy, even if you've got fat fingers like me. the only grumble i'd have is with the clock losing time occasionaly but its very easy to correct thanks to touch screen,all in all excellent

Steve: bad luck chum my w950i is perfect ive got just about every little spice u can put on it and it works fine, no loss in time and it can last upto 3 days no charge depending on use/backlight settings. The W950i is a GREAT phone Touchscreen UIQ3 is amazing and you can do just about anything with it. I can't wait for the W960i's release it is the answer to all phones.

Not a very good phone, it crashed constantly, especially if you want to watch a movie. NOt a reliable phone. Also, during a sunny day, it is impossible to see the screen, it has a very weak light. Battery life is poor. Buy something else

Very poor software design, which leads to slow userability and furthermore, the phone constantly crashes resulting in having to remove the battery to make it work again. I bought it in Dec 06 and had to have a replacement in Dec 06 due to the phone switching itself off. My replacement has worked since then but it's so frustrating to use due to the slowness and software crashing. I have just had it returned from SonyEricsson for repair to the software crashing and it is better but now when i try to search online in o2 Active, it keeps saying 'the input field is empty' when i'm clearly typing some text into the field. What I don't understand is that some people love this phone and some hate it BUT why can this be? Either the software is rubbish (which i think it is) or its not. It can't be good in some phones and bad in others. Maybe some people just don't have high standards for their phone and have never had a phone that operates quickly before. In summary t his phone operates poorly, looks outstanding and constantly crashes. Don'y buy it unless you don't mind slowness and constant crashing!!

a great walkman, a rubbish phone. Its that simple really. Too much time has gone into developing the (fatastic) walkam features of this phone and too little into calls and texts. It gives me totaly random errors, wont let me txt certain numbers, loses signal.....i could go on. Its is NOT A GOOD PHONE! however its a fantastic piece of technology. The features are second to none, it looks and feels great, if only it worked!

I have had this handset for 3 months after purchasing from play.com for �190 (sim-free). Before this i had the N95 for 1 month. This is a great handset and the battery last for 3-4 days if you switch 3G off and close all applications after using them properly. It has crashed on me a few times only when i try to play full MP4 movies. Easier to use than the N95 and feels better in the hand than the N95, although the screen is less quality. Overall very impressed.

I've had this phone for 2 months now and I think it is magic. It was a really hard phone to get used to and to be honest I did not like it at first, it just took me this long to figure it out. As for the freezing, it has only happened a few times in that 2 months, each time when I am spelling a word for predictive text. This phone is brilliant, seems to be very hard wearing too it still does not have a single scrtach on it.

For those reviews I have read here, my W950i came with an Orange UK contract and it kept on losing time and very frequently froze. Imagine phone restarting in the middle of a call. Then I decided to get rid of all Orange branding and Orange specific firmware, I debranded my W950i with Kulan Kendi and changed the firmware to World Generic 1. Since then I have been able to get regular updates from SE Update service for firmware (remind you that no update was available with Orange firmware). 95% of the problems have disappeared since debranding especially losing time and hardly anymore crashes now. This is a super phone just get rid of your Orange, O2 etc brandings.

The phone really rocks. perfection is just a word which can't be achieved. Same way even if it has few un-noticable problem, its bright screen and high sound clarity makes the phone ahead of all the phones in the world. My phone really rocks. none of the phone in the world can replace W950I.

I have had this phone for a while now, coming up for a year. Still has features much better than some on newer phones. If you like cameras on phones this isn't really for you. This phone is very slow, as it is running symbian, not particularly quick on any phone which runs symbian however, being slower you do have more features which is handy. My phones casing has started to peel and lift up which I'm extremely dissatisfied with. Also the styluses break easily if you have big hands, I've broken 5. I got a couple that are not made by Sony from ebay and they are much tougher. In reply to Greg from the UK mine is doing the same, I've just left it now as I'm due for an upgrade soon!

With the latest firmware update and a Sennheiser PMX 70 Sport headphone (bought separately) this phone simply rocks!!! Its excellent phone for both business and entertainment. I transferred 4 full length movies to it using M3 converter and its a pleasure to watch them. The only bad thing it doesn't have a camera.

If you like texting, then this phone isnt for you! The keypad is practically impossible to use for texting, and the recognition software (via the stylus) is average too. Great features music wise, but id rather have a phone I can text with and an MP3 player. This phone also refused to let me put the 'sleep' setting on it due to some error. Also, I would recommend avoiding getting it from Orange, as they provide the most shambolic Customer Service system I have ever encountered.

I have this phone now for less than 6 months. In the beginning it looks like a nice phone, but then you discover that the interface is very very slow. The battery doesn?t last for one and a half day from the start and now after about 5 months if fully charged in the night I have to be happy if it can make it till 20:00. On top of that last week the touch screen broke wherever I touch it will activate the bottom ?Icons?. So clearly I hate this phone. Don?t buy it you?ll be sorry in a couple of months.

I am 14 and have just ordered the w950i from orange on �35 a month I get 600 anytim minutes,450 anytime texts and unlimited free weekend texts.One of my older mates who is 17 has one and Ive messed about with it plenty of times,it has many wonderfull features and outstandindg graphics.It also looks the part aswell.Its ok if you dont like it cause theirs no camera so just dont buy one then and to all them nobs out their dont waste your time giving it bad reviews if you dont own one or have never actualy looked at it properly like I have.Now the music,well what can I say 'pitch perfect'probaly the best music phone on the market if not the best phone on the market.It offers very good high volume aswell,The people who made this phone have done an excelent job I mean how did they manage to put so much modern technolegy into such a thin lightweight phone and also the siz of the screen is astonishing perfect for watching films on.Now you here people saying about them freez ing and error and loosing time but thats due to faulty softwar meaning things have gone a tiny bit wrong but you very rarely get faulty software so dont worry.If your after a new phone and are intrested in this one then all you have to do is look at the majority of these reviews infact I've never seen as many 5 stars on a phone. dis fone is rubbish.. ihad it for 3 months n i gt sooo angry wit it dat i ended up throwin it in da bin.... i recommend gettin a w580i or a w660i... they both are slikkkkk fones and da specifications state that they both are fantastic and are both contenders for being the best wAlKmAn series phones... i also recommend not to get the w880i becoz of it short battery life and incredibly small buttons... BIG UP W58Oi... cheap and beautiful

Totally agree with Steve from UK (15/05/07). If this phone worked as was intended, it would be class, However is has too many annoying faults which mean it doesn't even get near. Its response time on everything is slower than any phone I've ever had. It often crashes, especially if you take up a lot of the memory and the radio sometimes just doesn't want to work. When you realise this phone cannot even keep time accurately you realise that sony did a bodge job on this one. Totally frustrating because this could/should have been an outstanding phone.

I've recently upgreaded to the W950i. I've had it for over a month and have now become fairly familiar with the all the functionality of the phone and thought this would be a good time to write a review. I searched high and low and read upmteen reviews of various phones before deciding on the W950i, and I have to say I made absolutely the right choice. This really is one of the best phones around. The muscic qality is awesome, There are so many grouping features, Video picture is sharp and almost like digital tv (I am currently watching Heroes on my way to and from work on the phone). The chraracter recognition is brilliant! You can actually use the stylus almost like a pen and it works! Texting is now so simple and easy. It has all the other normal phone features like timer, Calendar, notes et all. The actual use of the phone as a communiaction devices is as good as anything out there. And of course it has 4GB of internal memory. Yes, there are gripes. The phone does very occasionally freeze, but if you know when it happens you can work round it. There is a slight lag in the performance if you use up 4GB memory space but nothing too serious. There is no camera. But overall this is definitely the best phone I've ever owned and would recommend it very highly.

Great phone, got all the right features, good size all good EXCEPT its very unreliable, turns itself off, crashes, and suddenly playing music in my pocket even with the lock on. The battery life isnt great either. I'm on my FOURTH of this model and this one has the same problems and now I've have had enough... either I'm extremely unlucky, or this is just a bad phone. Give it a miss.

This phone is awesome i have had loads and i MEAN loads of phones in my time and i am finally content with this one. I havent seen anythign else that compares to this phone some might say its lack of a camera is a missing fature i beg to differ if you want a camera buy a proper on. Anyone who has had a camera phone knows the novelety wears off after a few months. This phone is highly reccomended especially for music lovers who want abit more from there mobile.

This phone is a nightmare. My handset is currently back with Sony-Ericsson for the second time in a month. The volume adjustment screen pops up randomly, the phone unlocks itself when nothing touches it and the "back" button does not work. Sony-Ericsson had it for two weeks to repair, sent it back, and nothing has changed. Its still broken! Oh, and other reviewers are right, it constantly loses time. So frustrating. The big memory is great though (providing the phone works).

i got this fone months ago and i only have one thing to say... AWESOME!!!!! it is the best fone on the market! internet? fantastic! music and videos? crystal clear! *even though sometimes it does freeze when playing videos...* if you guys are looking for a new fone, buy this one! its a perfect fone even though it doesnt have a camera... but who needs one when digi cams exist? perfect fone, buy it!!!

So annoying that i still can't type a text easily after having the phone 6 months but other than that you'd struggle to find a phone with the same features anywhere. Works brilliantly with TomTom Navigator software and sync with the pc. A pretty good all round phone.

This phone was a replacement for a P990i (which was awful) and followed a P800, P900 and P910i so seemed a natural replacement as it had the same functionality. It comes with the latest version of Symbian and like other this has been unreliable and my handset has been replaced 3 times. The signal strength is curious in that it often shows as 1 bar yet still works OK. The keypad is poor and frequently means the wrong number is entered. Texters should use the on-screen keyboard with word prediction which is excellent. Web browsing is good but it is very difficult to see, let alone read the screen, in sunlight. Battery life is average, 2 days at best with any real use. It does look gorgeous and feels good in the hand but it is basically a flawed device badly let down by the latest release of Symbian. In summary the real strength of this phone is the 4Gb Walkman function, if that is important to you and you enjoy browsing the Internet then this could be a good choice. F or phone or texting look elsewhere and beware that the software is buggy and prone to crash. I've had enough of Symbian and have gone back to a plain old phone, well until the Apple iPhone is available anyway.

worst phone i have ever had by far. the keypad is virtually impossible to use while texting which is really bad for a text-maniac like myself. the volume is really low when using the mp3 player. the screen freezes almost everyday and sony ericsson has not even offered to replace it. definitely not worth my $600. i think it was a waste of money and i urge everyone looking for a good, easy to use phone to get a different one. being a student i can not afford to pay for another phone but when i can, i will be getting a new lg. save yourself all the time running back and forth from shops and phone bills calling service centers and get a different phone. i am not happy with this phone. my friend has also had numerous problems with her phone which happens to be this one. image quality is okay and the camera works fine.

Ive had this phone fromt he release and have to say am dissapointed on the whole, yes the 4gb is great and did mean i could do away with my ipod and only have 1 thing in my pockets, but there are many design faults. firstly the headphone connection, basically its been designed badly, any knock and it looses connection and therefore sound,also it is very easy to bend the connectors pin and breack the headphone connectors. would have been sooooo much better jus to use a 3.5mm headphone jack.feel sonyericsson jus wanted to make more money through remotes bluetooth headphones etc. The phone design is jus not ergonomically correct the keys are far too close together and txting is a nightmare. cos the keys are unusable u must use the pen and the touchscreen keyboard, essentially useless for txtin on the move. Also the phone is so so so slow,even start up takes 3mins and needs confirmation and considering the amount of crashes its really annoying. The phone is also unsable outside the screen jus cant be seen in sunlight to be honest its rubbish. to summarise i love the idea of the phone but in practice it sucks, i would really like to know how things with such glaring flaws get to market. It would just take a proto type and 2 weeks of testing to show these flaws and cant understand the lack of this simple steps. To be honest this applies to almost every phone but it a simple thing that could stop all these ridiculous problems, ne way that ends my rant, my advice is never to buy the first phone with new features, simply they have not been properly tested. Jus wait till the software and hardware have been improved in later models and you will be much more happy with the product also it will be cheaper. It jus seems to me that companies are us releasin the prototypes instead of investin and testing, at the expense of customer satisfaction

I've had this phone for 6 months now & have to say its the best phone i've ever owned. Got it mainly so I dont have to carry the ipod around & it doesn't disappoint. Never had a single problem with it yet. Great phone. I normally upgrade every year but at the moment theres nothing out there i'd swop this one for!

Completely useless phone with a whole list of problems! The most irritating being the clock which doesn t keep the time properly. Furthermore it crashes all the time, the mp3 player isn't loud enough, the battery life is shocking, the keypad is unusable etc, etc, etc. Comes to something when my 6 year old 3210 works better than this so called 'smart' phone! So to sum up don't buy this phone.. stick with Samsung or Nokia!

I recieved this as my Upgrade from Orange and i was very disappointed. My last phone was (and still is)a W810i and i was expecting the W950i to be better, but it failed. it needs rebooting at least 3 times a day even using the task manager this is the slowest phone i have ever used, and it is totally useless in the car. Sorry Sony this is the first time i have had to send back one of your phones but i cant stand slow phones that need rebooting and that fall over all day. i will stick with the W810i until Sony do something better

I am adding this review as I feel there are some important points that people are leaving out (Ps please excuse the typos, I’m rushing this at work ;).Design: It looks the business when you take it out of the box. It’s slimmer and FAR lighter than my K800i. Problems… -The back button on the side is wobbly. It actually feels like it may just come off in your hands. -The touch screen appears flimsy, as if there’s an accident waiting to happen. Also the top/ bottom of the screen aren’t attached to the frame as such –there’s a little gap that I’m guessing dust would get into? -The touch screen is temperamental. It sometimes takes 3 touches before it responds. - When I turned the phone on it was very slow. This became a pattern and it often took up to 2 minutes to start up. Usability: The most pressing issue is trying to use this phone for its intended purpose on the 3 network. This is a Walkman � phone. My music tracks are almost all downloaded from 3. Their music files are ‘3gp’ (and apparently have consumable access keys). Neither of these things have been an issue before. When trying to save the tracks (3 allows you to download tracks 3 more times after purchase), all seemed fine. Then… I tried to play the tracks. At first they worked fine. But after about 4 plays they suddenly stop working. The tracks say ‘error’, ‘sound not supported’ and then get stop altogether. Heartbroken I tried again… and again (pointlessly using up all my free re-downloads!). Then, I though I’d cracked it. The tracks started working… I got to work before the walkman decided to start skipping past the downloads (again). Trying to be clever I thought better of it and decided to email the tracks to myself (my 3mail accou nt). This was a bust as the downloads just kept re-starting once they got to 66% complete=( I know- why didn’t I just use the software- USB provided? Because I don’t have a decent PC at home. My work PC is the only decent one I have access to and obviously I’m not gonna be downloading software onto that! This essentially means that the Walkman � can’t be used as a Walkman!!??!! At least not on 3 anyway. Another small annoyance was an irritating beeping every 10 minutes without fail when listening to the walkman. Although, the earphones/ sound quality were otherwise excellent. Other usability issues: -wouldn’t let me open messages saying they were incomplete (they WEREN’T). -the phone initially wouldn’t let me Bluetooth/ download videos? Had to turn the phone off/on to get it to work -POOR battery life. The battery barely lasts 1 day with minimal use (web/ walkman and 2 phone calls!) -the phone turned itself off/on several times as I was trying to change the settings (in the control panel). Features: On first glance the phone is rather lacking in features. The sub-menus look half empty. In all actuality the phone is less impressive than the K800i. Speaking of which, I was eager to get back to using my old phone after only ONE day of using the W950i. The most noticeable absences were: -The RSS reader (maybe just me?) -The screensaver having no clock -The screensaver not indicating whether you have any messages -No dedicated OK button -No save picture option (as with WAP) -No instant access to either ‘Play Now’ or the ‘3 Music Store’ -No camera -The auto key lock/ inactivity lock kicks in FAR too early (a few seconds in both cases). In practice, this means the keys will lock when you are typing/ reading messages etc. I’ll try and balance the negative with some positives. The phone does (mostly) what it says on the tin. It’s sleek and the techies out there would love it. It’s far more similar to a palm top than any mobile I’ve ever seen. Think of it as a cross between an iPod and Blackberry. PS the onscreen QWERTY pad was a dream to use (and yes, that was all I could think of, but it’s better than nothing).
