The Sony Ericsson W850i is a 3G Walkman phone with a sliding design available in a black or white finish. Both colours contain slight orange details to highlight certain buttons and the white phone has the Walkman logo made of 24k gold. For ease of use, this phone has dedicated access keys for music and web access. It has a lighting feature that illuminates the phone around the play button with a pulsing effect to the rhythm of your music. The weight of the phone slightly lets the stylish design down as it is 116g.
The phone has a very good camera with video capabilities. It has 2 megapixels and a 4x digital zoom as well as a flash light for taking pictures in poor lighting. The second camera that sits above the phone screen is used for video calling. Images are easy to see in the large 2 inch colour screen. It is very clear with 262k colours and a resolution of 540 x 320 and is the best available in the market at the moment.
Being a Walkman phone, the music player is excellent. It plays MP3 and AAC format and also has an FM Radio. It has a stereo sound through the headphones and the option to choose Mega Bass™ for a fuller sound. With the TrackID™ feature on this phone you can find out the title, album and artist name by sending a sample of the song to the music database. The music management software (Disc2Phone) also enables you to transfer music files from a PC to your phone along with the information about the artist, album and the track. The W850i also has a direct link to the PlayNow™ so music can be downloaded straight to your phone.
The phone has an internal memory of 16MB and the option to expand it to 1GB with an external memory card so you can store approximately up to 1000 songs.
This phone has a 64-voice polyphonic sound enabling 64 notes to be played simultaneously. As well as polyphonic ringtones, the phone can also play MP3's as ringtones. The melody composer lets you create your own monophonic ringtones and you can compose your own polyphonic ringtones using the MusicDJ™ feature.
The W850i has great connectivity with Bluetooth, USB mass storage, infrared and FastPort. Bluetooth allows you to connect wirelessly to another device with the same capabilities up to 10 metres apart. The USB mass storage is a great and easy way to connect to your PC as it has a simple and easy interface that allows you to drag and drop files so works great with the MP3 player. The expandable and/or phone memory appears on the PC screen as a mass storage device.
The phone can connect to the internet via a 3G connection which enables 384 kbps data transfer. This is the fastest connection available as using a 3G connection is similar to a broadband connection.
The W850i works on a quad-band frequency which means that it will work in Europe, America and Japan.
Overall, this is a very good top of the range phone. It has an excellent MP3 player along with great memory to support it and great connection with significantly fast data speeds with 3G. The things that let the phone down are the size and weight, and also the keypad as this has had some complaints from some users.

Sony ericson is the best videoDj radio of the ages.among to the 23 list of features i use photo light as flashlight for my bike trail and it was awesome. s.e w850i is less for videocamera yet best of all features.i update to buy the battery and the lader. it works well! i still use it eventhough i use my samsung galaxy z for facebook chat. for me sony ericson W850i is the best!

Had my one over 2 years and was a bit worried about the slide as i thought it would let me down in time but it just keeps going. Only once did it freeze up and so out with the battery and then back in to fire it up again. Cant seem to fault it. This is my 4th Sony Ericsson phone and have tried other brands but for me ill stick with this one.

This Phone is top notch.. I love it.. Its soo cool.. I would DEFINETLY recommend this to everyone who wants a cool, stylish awesome phone.. The features are awesome and it has everything that you could possibly want in a phone.. I would recommend this to everyone to buy.. Dont buy crappy Nokia's or any other phones.. Stick to Sony Erricson coz they is the BESSTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!

I've had this phone for almost 3 years now, and i gotta say that i'm very impressed by it. the looks are top-notch, the music quality is unbelievable, and the rest of the features are satisfactory enough. the camera could've been better, and i did have to give it for repair twice after some display complaints, but other than that, this is definitely one of best SE phones out there.

i bought this phone when it first came out four years ago and i think it's amazing! it only just recently started going a bit dodgy, like cancelling any text i'm writing. i think that this phone is amazing and it's really worth it. my mate just got a new LG phone for the exact same price and it's rubbish! it breaks and turns itself off. this phone is quite nice to look at and its practical too!!! i well like this phone :D i would defo recomened it 2 everyone because its lasted for AGESS! x

a very good phone with plenty of features. pretty much perfect apart from really poor phone lock. i keep calling people from my trouser pocket! camera keeps getting dirt stuck in it flimsy headphones which broke quickly apart from that great

had this phone now for 3 years and its been everywhere with me. never breaks down, never freezes, AMAZING phone. i even dropped it down the toilet and it survived!! good for music, good for txting, i wish they made Sony Erissons like this nower days. all they do now is break within a month :(.

I have been using this phone for the past 2 years . It is a very solid phone . All the features are in working condition even now , This phone is now 4 years old and I changed the battery due to bulging , that's Ok , I decided not to go for another phone and stick on to this , I like the display , very clear and not many scratches even without any protection . I could get the dismantling instructions from the internet and do some internal cleaning . I had to change the flex strip due to a fall from my pant pocket , I was very sad when this happened. it worked fine for one more week with ocassional display problems which turned to blinking display . It was cheap to change the strip . If you like sophistication and this is a phone which does look like a music player than a phone , the sound quality is excellent , very good head phones which does not fall off the ears easily is an added advantage . I do a lot of preventive maintenance and try not to rough use the phone . Nobody borrows the phone from me since they do not know how to use it . The navigation keys can be altered with short cuts of my choice. I use the phone in my car the hands free voice dialling and answering features are excellent, and safe also . The speaker phone is excellent . I can do almost everything without opening the slider . Excellent bluetooth features and connectivity with the PC Suite . I am not convinced with the reviews which say this is a bad phone , such people do not know how to use a music phone or know how these phones are made, i bought an original battery , do not go for duplicate cheap batteries they will ruin your phone . I bought another charger for my old battery to prevent strain on my phone's charging circuit. I use the old battery also as a stand by after charging it outside the phone on the external charger . Always switch off the phone before removing the battery.

I bought this phone when it first came out at quite a steep price.I must say it has been the best investment i have made. I have had it for four years now and had absoultley no problems with it. I must admite i am not the most carefull of persons i drop it atleast once a day on hard surfaces for four years and it has never ever broken. It literally has everything you could want or need in a phone even being able to make your own music! It sadans me that im being forced into buying a new phone every speck seems worse than the last comparing with what this phone does! I would have it forever if people didnt bad mouth how old my phone is!

This is an alright phone, i've had it for 5 months now with no problems, but its looks are kinda putting me off, all in all, this is a must buy for you music lovers, and its also a pretty good all around phone!

Absolutley AMAZING. some might even call it the indestructible phone! i previously had this phone and i was going through this site and i saw this and thought i would give it a review. it is perfect for music, entertainment, media of all sorts. highly recommended for someone who wants a phone purely for music.

I got this a year and half ago and it is very hard wearing but myne broke today i ant even say how many tiems i dropped it even out my window i dropped it down the loo and it worked for like 2 months nows it broke amazing phone lasts long good music quality i lvoe the orange bar aswell :D

Dis fone is brilliant. I hav had it for about a year now, still got it. I know its old but its such a great fone. The speaker is the best speaker i hav herd on a fone ever, i swear its a sic fone. The camera is alright but the walkman player is outstanding and the finishing touches is da lighting effects. The lights go with the beat of the tune ur playin. But overall i think its an outstanding fone and i think you shold get dis fone. Im not lieing its siccc best fone i hav had in years.

This phone is absolutely dire, i hate this thing with a die-ing (cant spell, sorry) passion... The good points of the phone:the music... and thats about it, there's not really another good thing about this phone, i couldnt use this thing after about 4 months, i went back to my old motorolla while the contract was still going... The bad points: its not at all sterdy, the back metal casing comes apart from the phone way too easily, after about 3 months the sound went on the normal speaker and had to use the loudspeaker for calls, in which on the busses and trains etc, people dont like that from you Dont, please god dont buy this phone, its so dreadful it makes the iPhone look good

The first one i dropped and broke but there again no phone would have survived dropped it from a stupid height I love this phone so much i had to get another andi have never had a problem with this phone or the first. The only way to describe this phone is bulletproof!! i had it for two year now my 9 yo son uses it! upgraded to the s500i (very poor phone) wish i didn't cos can't take the w850i back off him!

I got this phone the week it came out, it lasted a v long time, and still works, iv had a LG shine, LG viewty, and now on the LG renoir but still much prefer this phone. I still use it to put the songs on my new phones as its much quicker.

Great phone best phone I have ever had the camera is not the best but it has great effects like sepia etc. It can hold incredible amounts of songs and it also has a good look about it. The only bad think is that it is quite fat but you soon get used to it as all it's great features charm you! The only thing I regret is losing it and no one returning it :(.

I have had this phone for 18mths and in this time the loud speaker has gone off 3 times, the microphone once, the keyboard once. Just to give you a bit of history my phone is used very little and still looks brand new out of the box, never been dropped or used to play music from the loud speaker, and still it seems to breakdown. I was told to keep away from Sony Ericsson and i never listened, i dont think i will ever buy anouther or recommend one to anyone. KEEP WELL AWAY FROM A W850I

Looking forward to finally getting rid of this phone... It's bulky (has weakened my jacket pocket it's so heavy, and looks like a brick too); it's difficult to text (buttons are small and impractical); the slider is annoying (it doesn't always automatically lock the phone when you slide up - so you can end up calling people from your pocket); and it's complicated trying to sync with PC, so in nearly 2 years I still haven't done it. And did I mention the battery life isn't that great (and never has been)? The bars go up and down, they have a mind of their own. Only kept this so long because I have another phone, which I use more...

This phone is very beautiful unfortunately the telephone and the earphone are not loud ennough. Just can't understand anything in a noisy ambience. But no problem for anybodyy borne after 1990.

I just got this as a replacement for my Nokia 5200 and I love this phone!! Features are great, battery life is excellent and the music quality is fantastic even on full volume!!! Doesn't matter about the camera only being 2 megepixels, does the job for me! Love the photo DJ and video DJ and music DJ and the Track ID is pretty cool too!!!! Overall, I would reccomend this to anyone who wants a cool phone. Love it, well done Sony Ericcson.

i personally fink this fone is awful! it is a nightmare to charge up, i neva ger a signal bur tha mite b down to avin it on tmobile as a network, has a button to access the internet so if u forget to put this fone on lock n leave it in ur pocket it wil drain ur credit i once lost 4 pound ov credit by doin this, i bought this from a catalogue and it looked better quality than wa it actually is as it feel cheap and looks cheap, the camera is blury, bluetooth 4 sum reason stopped workin afta 6 months and tbh the fone is jus not the best.There was only a few gurd things to say bout this fone it has a gurd memory to store lots ov songs and played songs at a gurd quality and its simple to use.Apart from those things the fone was terrible.I am replacin it wit a lg viewty which looks much betta.I wud not reccomend this fone at all.

I need helpi am trying to transfer a few songs but i put the usb lead in and it restarts the phone and message comes up usb not recoginised its getting on my nerves i want two songs!! anyone experienced this before. PLEASE HELP!!

I have this phone and it has broken twice, the first time i managed to get it repaired, the second, they said there was nothing more they could do. Fantastic when it was working, if a bit chunky, but what's the point in having an awesome phone which is broken? I wouldn't say definitely don't get it, but what I would say is you're taking a gamble.

This is a good phone, with the camera and the music player.. but after a couple of months, it would crash whenever i shut the phone. i had it fixed but it still turns off randomly. Would not advise this phone

Not bad really. There are two MAIN GROUSES which are firstly the cracked directional pad and secondly the phone hangs repeatedly when accessing my contacts from "Z" upwards. Weird

A fantastic phone. I have an eyesight problem and needed a phone with a large clear screen. easy to use controls, and diddn't feel as though I was carrying a brick around in my pocket. This phone fits the bill perfectly. It has everything and more that I need but most importantly for me is the sound quality, and this is excellent on both music and speach. The screen clarity is also excellent this added to the easy to use menu system adds to the phone's ease of use. The camera isn't the best, but still better than average. That said, this phone majors on its sound quality not it's camera. If you want one to take good pictures you'll need the upper end of the K series that use Sony's Cybershot camera technology. You do have to be wary of the large screen though as this does make it vulnerable if it's put in your pocket without a case, My first W850i got broke so I replaced it imediately with another one it is that good. Build quality is excellent. I have heard that some people have had problems using the buttons, but in my opinion you can't get much worse than a partially sighted bloke with fingers like a bunch of bannana's, and I'm having no probs with it at all. I am so pleased that for this phone Sony Ericsson got rid of that pain in the butt joystick they seemed to like inflicting every purchaser with. The new direction pad is much easier to use adds to the allready good looks of the phone. To sum up the W850i is by far the best phhone I've ever had or tried and beleive me I've had the use of a lot of phones over the last fifteen years.

Without a doubt the best phone i ever had. Its now two years that i have the phone, and it met and exceeded my expectations! The only thing that i think SE phones lack is a log of calls with its duration similar to Samsung. Otherwise no complaints. Well done SE!!!!!!!!!!

the front keypad is very clumsy and you can hardly do anything without the walkman interfering. And my keypad broke after a month cos i love playing games. I've been using it for over a year now and i doubt if i still can part with it cos it falls like a ball and its still working perfectly.

I absolutely love this phone, I have had mine for about 2 years now and nothing has ever gone wrong with it! the camera isn't brilliant by all means but it is good!! I am having difficulty in finding a new one that I will like as much as this!

Its a woundearful mobile phone. I am useing it very rufly. But it dosent make any kind of problem anytime yet. so i can suggest everyone, if u want to decide you will buy a SONY ERICSSION set yet please buy W850i model.

i've had this phone for a bit over a year now, it started off great, but after a few months, whenever I receive a call, I'd press accept once; nothing would happen, so I press accept again..and it closes the call. I now always have to call back, and the battery life isn't great, it lasts about 2 days not even using the phone that much.

I love this phone, great features, great pictures and music quality. The only problem that me and my boyfriend have had with this phone is the key pad on the front of the phone next to the walkman controls breaks easily. Mine broke within 5 months of having that phone

I ve W850i, the worst one in this world. The next worst thing is the Sony Ericsson support and service centres. I hate them. They dont justify their existance. I have spent a lot on my mobile and it is still dead.

had this phone for nearly a year now.. treated me well until the official charger blue my battery up inside it. it now turns off if you slide the phone fast, of sometimes just randomly, also turns itself off when full charged? i hate the fact when it's on file transfer mode, and you unplug it, it restarts? walkman button is in a very stupid place, it's to close to the up button. the camera is okay, but needs good lighting for it not to come out fuzzy and bland. i like the apps and games avaliable for download on this phone, battery life is poor though. also another negative, there's only one socket, which is for either charging, or headphones etc maybe they should just introduce seperate sockets? screen size is okay, but isnt bright enough, even when brightness is on 100% also the phones fairly brick-ish, but doesnt do any harm, i'm used to brick phones, hence the nokia 6600 xD im never getting a s.e again.. i'm getting a 14 day trial on iphone 3g, i wonder how that'll be.

i use to have this phone and had it for quit along time be4 upgrading this phone is one of the best phones ive had it went through alot of wear and tear but all the functions still worked perfectly never had no problem with this phone i found the volume of the fone very impressive the phones functions are very good and useful

Iv had this phone for a year now and i have finally given up the speaker is awful especially when making a call, i found i couldn't hear the person on the other end of the phone and if i did it was faint although they could hear me, i thought it may have just been the speaker i took it bk to the shop where they said it was the volume although if i turned the volume up on the phone it would just crackle. after 5months of having the phone the screen started to go white and after a week totally went blank and wouldn't turn on the shop where after a month of looking at it they then replaced it with a brand new phone with a new w850i which still had the same speaker problem a few months later it did the same thing again i have now given up with the w850i and have brought a new phone all together. this is a rubbish phone and i wouldn't recommend anyone to buy it!!!!!!!!

this phone is awsum i have had it for about 9 months and it was brilliant until it brok in a water fight but the screen still works but duzent light up so dont go in water fights with it!!! good aplications and the games are good same for the skins. The music player is good and belive it or not the camrea is good to but i dunno about that compared to the lg kc550 orsay what i am getting in about 4 weeks time but good phone over all i totaly recomed it!!!

This phone is the best thing that ever happened to me, I was drewling over it for weeks until I finally got it.I felt so alive like a part of me was missing and it is finally been filled that is why i advise you to get this phone.

I think the w850i is rubbish u can down load turns but u can not put the on a mp3.
