I had this phone for almost a year and loved it, then for no reason at all the the top buttons and some of the number buttons stopped working. I turned it into warranty and received another one. The one I received would not find a network. So I turned it in again, and received another phone. I think this was a refurbished phone that they sent me because this time I only had it for about a month when the middle circle button and call button stopped working. I called warranty once again and tried to trouble shoot. This time when the tech told me to take the battery out with the phone on, when the phone came back on the circle button would enter but would not let me go up or down. Then the phone shut itself down and will not come back on at all. I really like the music features that sony ericsson offers. So I am now going to try the sony ericsson c905a I am hoping that this phone will work better.

The camera is terrible, but the phone is ridiculously buggy: dropped calls, dropped bluetooth connections, random reboots, randomly unmounts the memory card (need to reindex all the music), etc. I did upgrade to the newest firmware when I got mine (around 12/2009). They must have never tested this thing, it's so goddamn buggy. The GPS uses a ton of battery power, which you don't have much of in the first place, and unfortunately you can't turn it on in flight mode to save energy like you can for bluetooth. For the record, the built-in GPS tracking app exports .gpx files.

Biggest piece of carp phone I have ever owned. I have had all the problems listed here in spades. Finally wouldn't start up at all & was only 13 months old. SE didn't even respond to my email. Maybe 13 months is a long time for some but I have been spoilt with great phones in the past. When my W760 died I put the sim straight back into my 7 year old Nokia with the original battery & not a problem.

Rubbish.. The phone does not appreciate overuse of the buttons, and after only six months, the phone started to freeze on me, and it started to drop out of calls occasionally.. However, after 14 months, now the phone is freezing on me once or twice a day - used to be a month or a week - and the reception isn't exactly brilliant, either..

Decent music player, but the battery life is poor, and the software has a lot of quirks (random shutoffs, screen blackouts, etc.). The built-in GPS app works for tracking, but what sucks is that "Flight mode" shuts off the radio AND GPS antennae, so while you're tracking your path out in the middle of nowhere without cell phone reception your phone keeps searching for a cell tower and thus dies much sooner that it would have to. The phone is also pretty slow like others commented, and the camera does suck. It also doesn't have a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack, only some proprietary Sony Ericsson crap which doubles as the power connector -- you CAN plug in your standard headphones in the hands-free, but if you lose that you're hosed. Because of the multi-purpose outlet, aftermarket power-connectors don't let you connect a headphone while charging, either. Also doesn't have a separate USB output, that's again that stupid connector for which you need a special cable (S E will send you that for free at least; 4 aftermarket USB cables I ordered via Amazon/Ebay were all incompatible, despite the seller's claims). I did get a cheap 4 GB memory card for it, so it's a low-end phone+music player for me.

I have two of these phones and had them for a tad over a year now. I would have given it a 4 or 5 star rating had I done the review when I first got the product but after a years time with it you notice its flaws, and most unfortunately for this phone the flaws are too significant to just ignore. Slow processing, it lags often just trying to open the menus, sometimes for over a minute making you think the phone is broken. Slow processing also means it cant play video files nearly as high of a quality as Sony said it can/should, so watching videos on this phone sucks they will lag and audio will come out of sync. Music, the one thing this phone does great also has a major flaw, the bluetooth doesn't pair properly to my headphones (Motorola S9HD) almost half the time it will pair but then still play music from the phone speakers instead of from my headphones making me resync it over and over until it works. No other device has ever had issues for me. Also my first annoyance with this phone was no support for custom ring tones unless they were under a certain file size, so you could not just pick your favorite song on your phone and make it a tone you had to chip the phone down to a small size. Tons of flaws here, makes me miss my solid W600 I had before it. Good points are the long battery life and solid build quality/design.

Appears that for a walkman and gaming peripheral this cellphone was excellent. The camera is only an addition, every cell has it. BTW, if you complaining about the camera, it's a walkman series, not a camera series, so if you want a best result try the C905, or in the higher class you can get both such as W995 or Aino. The price worth the function. My mom has it, and working well too.

It seems much better than 3.2megapixels and the pictures still look good when they have been enlarged. I had over 500 songs on the phone and hundreds of pictures which didn't seem to slow the phone down, except for the freezing. I would not recommend getting this phone, inless they have fixed the faults. Although it has some good aps they dont make up for all the bad stuff. It is a good phone though.

I've always had SE phones and have never had trouble with any of them, until now. This one kept shutting down (about 15 to 20 times a day) so I flashed the software and it didn't fix the problem. Sent it back to o2 and it came back damaged. Sent the phone straight back and it came back damaged again. Finally got a brand new replacement W760 and it has started crashing again - after just 2 days. I wouldn't mind but I emailed SE support before I bought this phone and they said there were no issues with this phone. On the plus side, this phone can actually take a 4meg card, has superb features, and is good for my big hands, but the reliability is so disappointing I can't recommend it - even though I want to. My problem now is to find a suitable replacement phone. Might have to change to another brand.

Unfortunately as with most Sony equipment, its beauty is only skin deep. Yes you've probably guessed already that I am not about to sing the praises of this device, in fact having watched various parts give up the ghost and realising that the component parts are so cheap that even the Chinese refuse to duplicate them. As for customer service you'd be better off expecting Basil Fawlty to be crowned Hotelier of the year. Indeed I would go so far as to state that Microsoft supplied the components for this phone from some iffy Xboxes they had received as returns. And don't get me started on their service and repair center run by Kahones and Nasty. (Kuehne+Nagel) Who's trained engineers are no more than Monkeys, just about capable off flashing and the re-installation of software, but any serious problem is soon Classified as water or Liquid damage and the warranty voided. Don't believe me then why do you think they ask you to freepost your phone for repair? Believe me this is no altruistic move on their part but rather to ensure that your phone arrives after being subjected to the sort of environmental conditions that would make a Soldier weep. Don't believe me then to prove it I'd ask you to place an old Mobile in an envelope and place the envelope in your garden, sheltered from rain, or on a outside window ledge, occasionally bringing it back inside the house to simulate the sorting office Etc' After a couple of days and nights outside bring the phone back indoors and open it to reveal the circuit board. I'll bet a pound to a penny that your phone shows signs of condensation which when dry will leave a residue, this is the water damage that voids your warranty. indeed come to think of it how many of us when purchasing a new phone bother to have it inspected for water damage? The truth is that as this rubbish and indeed all Sony Ericsson's range is sold in Britain it obviously needs to be insulated against the odd raindrop, and unlike Microsoft Sony Ericsson have still to admit that their manufacturing process is ?????. Don't care though I'm back using my Lg shine, a much better phone in every aspect. A real shame the star ratings don't allow negatives!! Don't buy an Ericsson unless you is batty.

I'm a Sony Ericsson fan and I really love my w760i despite its faults (I've had mine in for repair) its still a fantastic all purpose phone that will pretty much do anything you ask of it. If you're looking to buy a w760i or you already own one here's a few words of advice that you can take or leave as you wish. 1. ALWAYS TRY BEFORE YOU BUY, get a feel of the phone in your hands, is it what you expected it to look/operate like? You can always go to a shop and do this even if you're not buying from there. 2. UPDATE THE SOFTWARE ON THE PHONE TO THE LATEST VERSION, pretty much all the freezing/restarting complaints on this page can be traced to older versions of the software. You can download everything you need to do this from the Sony Ericsson site or if you don't feel up to it, just ask a tech savvy friend to help you. 3. KEEP THE PHONE MEMORY AS CLEAR AS POSSIBLE, one of the main causes of sluggish performances. Move all pictures, video, ringtones, music, texts, emails and programs to the memory card - trust me this actually works! 4. TREAT THE FASTPORT CONNECTOR WITH CARE until Sony Ericsson wakes up and smells the coffee with regards to putting a miniUSB connector and a 3.5mm jack socket on their phones we're stuck with their standard multipin FastPort connector. Used for charging, music, wired handsfree and data connections the contacts buckle easily if roughly treated, the W760i suffers badly for this (I've just had mine repaired under warranty). To avoid this as much as possible always push the connector gently and evenly into the socket, when removing the connector hold the phone face up towards you and gently push the connector FROM BEHIND towards you. Be careful, don't dangle the phone by the connection cord or force the phone into a tight pocket or case with a connector in place. If the fastport glitches (repeatedly connecting and disconnecting onscreen) when anything is connected to it, (stereo handsfree, charger, data cable) you need to take it to a service center as soon as possible (tru st me - it will get worse the longer you leave it). 5. GET AN UNLIMITED 3G DATA PLAN ALLOWANCE ON YOUR NETWORK, the w760i comes pre-loaded with some great applications such as; Track Id, Wayfinder Navigator, Netfront Web Browser and Google Maps. All these depend heavily on the 3G data connection on the phone, go on - treat yourself! 6. FOR EXTENDED BATTERY LIFE GET AN EMERGENCY CHARGER, if you're like me you use your phone heavily whilst on the move, thus thrashing the battery to a pulp. You can buy an emergency charger from eBay that will revive a dead w760i from a single AA alkaline battery or keep you talking or SatNav'ing for at least an hour - essential piece of kit for today's mobile phone user. The w760i is a solid performer, you'll be amazed what you can do with just one device.

I got the phone for Christmas. Didn't really see many reviews for it but the ones I did see were mixed. Although I'm not a huge fan of the keypad (it feels a bit cheap), the phone is a nice looker with excellent music facilities but the reliability is an issue. My phone kept displaying an "invalid sim" message before shutting down and restarting. This would happen when trying to make calls, send texts or just when the phone was sitting idle. I twice tried to update to the latest Sony Ericsson software but the problem continued. I took the phone back into an O2 store and they sent it away for a repair under warranty. 2 or 3 weeks later I had the phone back with a statement saying the fault has been repaired but within 2 days the phone was back to it's old faulty ways, doing the same thing so now I'm waiting for them to offer me an alternative model as a replacement after taking it back again.

Sometime it would freeze and I would miss important phone calls because it would go straight to my voicemail. I would have to reset the phone to get the thing back to where I can call out and recieve calls. It's been to Sony twice, the first time back, it was just as bad, but it added an extra issue: the phone status page kept popping up and it wouldn't go away to do anything. And the phone they sent me was trashed up and they told me that they only needed to send a working phone (which wasn't the case). I sent it back and it still has the same issues.

I have this phone. I URGE YOU NOT TO BUY IT. Ok its alrite, but the focus on the camera is awful, everyones always shaking ever so slightly, and this is enough to put the damn thing out of focus! It is so so so so so slow, its not great for music, its quiterer than the w810i and so much slower. And my god it freezes, it hates Sim Cards, hates its battery and isnt keen on memory sticks. Oh and it has stupid buttons to answer and make calls, catch ya nail on them and they rip off, as i know, |:. 2 weeks without it and went back to my w810i, such a better phone. The reason it is so slow is because Sony Ericsson changed their software. When networks such as o2 and orange get the phone, they plaster their software on top of the original so every phone has the same layout, the new ericsson software doesnt like network software, thus it freezes. Seriously, dont but this phone. Buy the old w810i before it, dont get this. For god sake buy summut else. Point made lol.

i really wanted this phone to work, as i liked the way it looks, 3G, GPS and the camera(but cant zoom anything unless in VGA picture size). Unfortunately it keep freezing while playing, takes time when pressed options too quickly, and the most annoying- cuts off for 2-3 seconds during a call. So now Im back on my old K660i, which still seems to work quicker.

Sony really dropped the ball on this one. It looks nice and has nice features but the quality is dreadful. My first one, the GPS died after the first 3 weeks. Got replacement but now after 4 months the charging/headphone/data socket has come loose and won't connect. So it's got to go back again. Add that to frequent crashes and glitches in the music playback, and and I would never recommend this phone. I've had the K700i and two K750i's which were excellent, but after the W760i I am seriously considering getting a different brand for my next phone.

Same problem as others..switches itself off for no reason! Tried the Sony updates as suggested but to no avail. Just sent it off through t-mobile so will see if they rectify the problem. Other than that I like the phone, camera isn't the best but can live with it. If I had done my research though I would have gone for a different phone!

Unfortunately they are sending another in its place , we will wait to see what it is like.

Since taking on the W760i I have to question SE ability to make a mass market phone as this W760i I have at the moment is the worst phone I have ever owned. Restarts istself for no reason and at random with "inactive sim" displayed on screen and you cant play music on it as it just jumps around all over the place. Cuts out half way through calls. This is the 2nd one I have had 1st one the battery lasted about a day then it would give up the ghost. Avoid this phone at all costs and do yourself a favour.

Just bought this phone recently on 02. What a great feeling in your hand, ergonomically brilliant. Too many people are fussy the wrong way. I had tried three different phones namely ericsson 910i and samsung g600 they all have different problems in sliding mech, messaging tones etc. Lets get this straight. The 760i does the business. A fantastic music player, good radio, easy texting, good sliding. I called my son yesterday on his 910i and what a brilliant call chrystal clear. I like this so much that i am frightened to put this phone down at times. The market is hard to choose for phones and it hard to get it right first time. This phone will not disappoint.

This phone is a massive dissapointment and I'd advise you again getting it, or any other walkman phone on the market. SE obviously haven't taken time to check for bugs, just released it as quickly as possible. It restarts itself very frequently with the message 'inactive sim' when there is clearly nothing wrong with my simcard. It also gives me the 'emergency calls only' message on the front screen and network coverage does not return until you turn the phone off and turn it back on. I had exactly the same problem with a previous phone I had, the w910i. It is also a walkman phone which leads me to believe that walkman phones are not competent for usage. I strongly advise you to decide against getting this phone if you are thinking about it.
