The Sony Ericsson W700i is an average top of the range Walkman phone. It is a standard design and weighs 99g. One of the criticisms that some people have found with the design is the joystick which can be slightly fiddly and difficult to use.
It has a 2 megapixel integrated digital camera with a light and 4x digital zoom. It also has video recording capability. The camera is easy to access by opening the lens cover which activates the viewfinder in the screen making it ready to use.
The display is a TFT screen with the resolution of 176 x 220 pixels and supports 262k colours. In comparison with some other top of the range phones the resolution is above average but there others such as the W850i that have a higher resolution of 240 x 320.
This phone has an excellent Walkman music player and FM radio. The easy access music player allows you to listen to MP3's by pressing one button. You are then able to choose a song or create a playlist. This phone also comes with music management software that makes it easy to transfer music onto your mobile. The FM radio features RDS which are digital feeds of information that appear in the radio screen in your phone. The internal memory is 34 MB and there is the option to expand this with an external memory card up to 4GB allowing you to store a considerable amount of music and media files.
The phone is capable of playing MP3 files as ringtones as well as polyphonic tones. It has a 40-voice polyphonic sound which means that 40 notes can be played simultaneously. Although this is good, there are a lot of phones in this price range with 64 or 72-voice polyphony.
The W700i has excellent connectivity features with Bluetooth, USB and infrared. The USB cable enables you to connect to a PC while you can connect to another device with Bluetooth or infrared wirelessly. Connecting via Bluetooth can be done up to 10 metres apart while infrared requires devices to be very close.
The phone can connect to the internet with GPRS. This has fast data speeds but for this price range you should expect to have EDGE or 3G connections which are significantly faster.
The operating frequency is tri-band which means that it will work in Europe and America. It has an excellent battery life with 400 hours of standby time.
Overall, this is a good phone with an excellent music player and memory to accompany this feature. The things that let it down are the internet connection and the fact that it is slightly heavier then other phones and the fiddly joystick, other then that it is a good all round phone with good features.

This handset is good in some aspects but the problem is it is very delicate.The display goes off if even if it falls off from a small height.Is anyone facing the same problem?

I am satisfied will all the function except lock facilities in this phone. My concern is that it will be good if we can set the code to lock the phone I mean like in Nokia phones, it ask code even after automatic lock but in w700i it only ask when we restart the phone.

Fantastic phone this. Music, camera, vdo, and everything is mind blowing in this phone. I'm using a 4gb memory card in this phone with full capacity and still phone does not hand. (Very rarly it does hang while doing 2-3 things at the same time (listen to music and watch pics). I wanted to know if I can use 8gb card with this phone. Anybody used it without any problem? I have used the sonny Ericsson W700i one year this is an excellent ph......specially its sound quality.the camera quality is good compared to other brands.but some time is problem eg: when vewing the image it is hanged. it out looking is not good but its a mind blowing ph with excellent features...go and grab it.From Bangladesh (mostafapra@yahoo.com)

Great Phone i am using this phone from 1 1/2 years. The sound quality is very bad. The Mega Bass option is superb, this is my first Walkman phone. The sound quality through the headset is awesome compared to Nokia. I had problem with the display, sometimes the back light does not work properly. Sometimes the phone hangs while viewing high quality images. The battery backup is okay. Remaining features are good of this phone.

Phone is not value for money at all. Voice coming out of speaker is too low for a walkman phone of this price. Battery performance is not very good. Every spare part is expensive. Paint quality is bad,fades after 4,5 months. Zoom is very bad. Screen is small. Cant hear music through handsfree while charging(same slot). Simcard cant b removed with ease at all.

For 2 years i hav had the phone and the joystick is still in perfect condition, not one crack. i have dropped this phone so many times, but it is SOLID. SICK PHONE!!! BUY IT!!!

i've had this phone for just over 2 years and its the ebst phone ive purchased ever. im now going to buy a w850i as it seems to the lastest best phone out. the only problem i had with the w700i is that now its old the camera turns itself on automatically and the battery life has decreased alot. but dfor 2 years its been the perfect phone.

the phone is good . bt the problem is not enough sound from its speaker campartively other its low models. head phone sound is excellent. another disadvantage it is having sme linking problem with PC. sme times i t is not working especially the pictures and videos.the functions are low compared to other phones. services also bad.the main disadvantage is cell phone servicer cannot fix the problem. i bought it before two months, last week i noticed there is some problems with video. we cant use internet as user friendly and the system is also not good.......... totally it do not have value for money......

I dont like this phone (W700i) at all. Like all other SE phones the text msg storage is very limited. The softwre provided by SE is not able to transfer text msgs into a PC. I would rather use a low end Nokia than W700i.

I bought a w700i. Guys plz read before buying.It has no video player. Its speaker volume is to low to hear. Only good thing about the phone is its music through earphone. Damn good. If u r a music freak then only go for it. Its not more than a walkman. Better pay some extra bucks and buy upper model.

SE W700i is similar as w800i phone. It includes megabass mp3 player, plays like home theatre. It has bluetooth & infrared port. Access the internet. 2 megapixel camera which give high quality pictures & videos.

Amzing phone! No problem with the joystic or the battery. I love its look and how it feels in the hand, Only regret that I can't access and save my messages onto my mac. But I guess not many phones can do that. Very powerful light to guide you in the dark. Go for it!

I bought this phone in feb 07 and is working quite superbly,the phone has crisp display,good looks, excellent imaging quality.But when i compared this phone with my nokia 6233 the latter scores over w700 in terms of music quality.As 6233 sounds much better using the headphones as well as through loudspeaker.Overall w700 rocks and the price has also come down to 8500.It's a great deal having this phone at such competitve price and with all great features.

hey..guys this is a rocckking cell yar..made me crazy in its first look.ya and liked its joystick but be careful while using it.sound quality is very high due to its sexy earphones.Battery life is not a problem if u connect this cell to pc for uploading pics coz it keeps on charging automatically thru its usb. what els ..its a tru valu for ur 9000 bucks....go get it...!!!

I've had this phone since October 2006 and i have to say i still love it. although the same old problem of poor battery life and low quality speakers have been voiced by its buyers (including me) i feel that for its relatively cheap price, they are worth it. i mean the camera is simply amazing, extendable memory very useful, beatiful and classy design with the signature orange walkman light (so everyone nearby knows its a walkman phone! :) ) is some of its many plus points. However, i do have one concern, and that is how long will the joy stick last.since its almost a year old i'm hoping the joystick will not break coz i do use it alot! My final verdict: BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean what more could you ask for? Sony Ericsson has catered a phone packed with features that you could'nt ask for more with and priced it pretty cheaply. It really does not get better than that!

The phone definitely is not that very great. The speaker volume modulates to such a low, that it is impossible to hear the person at the other end. The camera is another problem, any small movement close to the phone activates the camera ... The phone would have been better if there was a camera lock function to it to avoid the above problem.

The most starkling PROBLEM In Sony Phones ..and this would come for sure once u have these phones for around an year ... The phone stops getting charged from a power output source. This is owed to a poor design in the charger and the Integrated circuit which gets corrupted. When you go the service station they will just shy from this problem stating the weather conditions such as humidity etc.!!! .. The phone has great features of software , music and photo imaging but falls very very short on structural aspects. Its just a phone for a while in your life.

the phone is of high ouality especially in sound i have compared it with nokia music edition but with fontopia earbuds it really rocks if anybody proves it wrong i can make a bet on it . talking about the camara its ok we cannot say its briallent but at this price it really worth the money if youwant everything and SE product then i would suggest w9ooi which is newly launched but has got some more improved feature with regards shreehari(shreeharikeloth@yahoo.co.in)

Great phone. The only problem i ever faced with dis model is that its keypad is easily scratched. The external speaker output has lesser quality compared to w550, but you cant have everythin. Just one query, will your phone become slower if you add a 2gb Memory. Reply to kenshin.vegeta@gmail.com

I've had one for a year with no problems, except that I somehow cracked the screen. Best phone I've ever had. I'm replacing the broken one with a W800i as I couldn't find a cheaper W700i. The mp3 player is really good and the sound quality is amazing through the supplied headphones. The only faults I can find are that the Sony software is a bit slow at transferring music and the camera is a bit poor. I didn't get it for the camera though. The only other phone I would get is a Sony thats higher up the range, just to get a larger capacity mp3 player.

its a wonderfull phone i bought it after collecting the money aftr 4 months which i think is worth to buy w700i. i really liked the clarity of the pics if taken in day light and if we buy a 1 GB card it would be more then suffient for storing the data so guys and gals dont worry just go for it.

cool phone.if u luv music don't go for any other phone.mp3 sound is low but if u plug the earphone into ur ear & turn on the megabass u will forget ur surrondings.the bass is mind bogling.enough battery life & memory.camera is decent enough for average photo.i take a point just for camera.but u can't expect digtal camera's perfomence in walkman phone.shortly it is very very very very good for music & just decent enough for camera.

Really impressed with the phone when i first got it, but i thought the battery life was quite short, and when i was typing a message and clicked back by mistake the message was deleted and i had to write it all again :(! Now, its broke. I put the radio on, and then sent a text, and it froze. So, then i took the battery out, to turn it off and replaced it, and now when i turn it on the screen just flashes and does nothing else. Gutted! amazing phone!!it has absolutely everything!ive had mine for more than a month now and am absolutely loving it..My advice - upgrade to a 512 mb or 1 gb memory stick and it can give u the quintessential i-pod experience and a whole lot more...its amzing but the problem is that its joystick is not right.

My opinion about sony ericsson is that ,that i bought a sonny ericsson w700i.After some days i put it on charge.When i put it in the charger it burns.Then i sent that mobile to the company because it have its warranty.They told me that it cannot be repair.so my suggetion is that dont buy any sonyericsson mobile.nokia is the best Thanks

Very Satisfactory......i wont repeat the guds. I thk fo r buyers shortcomings are imp. I was struggling finding its drawbacks. Found these ...it has a common port for cahrging & FM ...so cannot do both simultaneously. Secondly,the Cancel button is irritating. It does not take you to level 0 mode directly, but keeps on asking for u to delete this & that, which fears me that somebdy can delete somethg imp. NO Auto focus.

Just brought this brand new phone a month back . A reliable , user-friendly phone that lives up to Sony's prestigious "Walkman" trademark and can no doubt be a great substitute for your MP3 player . The battery back-up is pretty decent and so is the speakerphone output . The display and headphone sound-clarity are simply superb !!!!

Its just 24 hours since I bought this piece. After 2 hrs of hands on comparison with Nokia 6300/N70M I decided on this. The joy stick is clumsy otherwise its a awesome phone with a good package of a camera and walkman

Outstanding Phone!! EXCELLENT speaker quality but the camera could be better. this phone is for music lovers and it can handle up to 8GB of memory (Memory Card). i just hope the joystick doesn't break. It looks and feels great. Would definetely recommend.

Is there a difference between this phone and the K750i, except for the "Walkman-ness" of it? Well if you can get a couple of these walkman earphones and use them with your K750i, the sound quality is pretty much the same. But then, hey, there isnt much difference in the price, is there. I liked the 750's camera better, it had more focus. But the 750 has been around for quite some time now. So if you are looking for a younger brother of the 750, this is the phone. The software is much the same as the 750. But overall, it is a good phone

its a good phone but i have complaint abt 2 things that is 1.it hangs when 1n gb card is operated 2.the ear phones design is such that it will any how damage and the cost of the ear piece is 1600 rs so this is a very bad thing abt the cell bye .........

It is a good phone. I am facing problem with the Joy stic. it is broken. Can u plz tell me if we can upgrade this with new softwares. you really can enjoy your music.. Add to that very good Battery back up...Excellent signal strength...Good Sound clarity at low price... 5 stars for sony ericsson for bringin' out such a fantastic phone. The ear phone is awesome, Great battery backup, amazing sound quality, crystal clear pics (who gives a damn about auto-focus?!). The joystick does not have any probs like mentioned in previous reviews. It's completely hassle free and moves smoothly. Go for this baby if u want everything u'd expect form a music phone, all of the best quality and for an amazingly low price.

Gerat! This baby is stuffed enough to compete against the nokia n series junk. Everything is simply outstanding.The ear phones just rip the ears apart with the booming mega basss feature. The phone's speaker is also simply outstanding. GO SONY ERICSSON!!!. Nokia is nothing, all they can do is boast about their battery life!

i have been using the se w700i for 3 months and it has been my exceptionally good choice to buy it. i listen to all my songs in my cell coz its great mega bass sound makes me a true sound of a music. i am highly grateful that sony ericson has provided us with the perfect technology of todays youth. if u r gonna buy a cell then please dont hesitate as this cell is really a great choice for all.

I have had the K700i for a little over a year now and think it's a great phone BUT have only one complaint. The connection to charge up is a real pain. I have never known such a difficult to use connection as this. Please Sony, adopt an easier one, more like the Nokia's would be so much better.

I got this phone for my Christmas, and I hadn't had any problems with it until last night, when the joystick wouldn't move down, it would only select the item over which the cursor was on. Does anyone know how to fix it???

This W700i phone is great...all the features in it are excellent especially the Walkman. More than 95% of people have given good feedback abt it. so let me pointout some drawbacks of this phone. 1) If you cancel an incomming call by pressing busy button, it lists that call as missed call. 2) It takes too much time to send messages. 3) If you lose the rubber earbud thats there in the earphone, you wont get a spare rubber earbuds because of which you cannot place the headphone inside ear correctly. (if anyone knows where can I get spare rubber ear buds pls mail me at g.arunk@yahoo.com) 4) You have to activate a profile inorder to edit that profile. Where as in nokia, irrespective you you activate a profile or not, you can edit a profile. 5) You cannot charge the mobile & use the headphone at same time. Where as in nokia, as the charger & Headphone (handsfree) socket is separate, both can be used at a time.

I have had this phone for about a month and theres been no problems so far. The sound quality and ease of putting music on the phone is incredible, the camera quality isnt that excellent but its definately better than my old RAZR! and i really love the design & colour! ive got one question to ask for people who know - would it be ok to bring back an unlocked phone from turkey and put an english sim card in? call me dumb but i just dont want it effecting the phone! All in all a very good phone worth buying!!

I buy the Sony W700i yesterday.I was quiet unhappy with his a bit small screen(Compare with Nokia), But As I heard its rocking sound with its MegaBass facility.I just forgot all its pros n cons.Camera is also good. The battery time is somewhat short time. Overall say This is mindblowing model.

Thephone and everything seems to be perfect about the phone but the earphones are real bad and they got spoilt just after two months after i bought it and was not having any kind of a warrenty for it and it is really bad about that but the rest all is fine with the phone and i really love it.wish there was some way to replace the earphones. and that would be ggrreat...........

Been using the W700i for the last six months It is a fantastic phone yes but then everything has its drawbacks : 1. The joystick is very convenient to use, but shouldnt Sony give us a navi key option too, as the joystick does fail to respond correctly after 4 to 5 months of use. This is not the case with Nokia joysticks even with the low end 6600 phones, so is there a design problem here? Far better than the K750i joystick tho. 2. The sound while listening through the external speaker is terribly low.. SE.. this is the walkman series... didnt it deserve a better sound output? 3. An inherent problem with SE organiser is that any reminders will only sound once and then sit on your screen. the reminder alarm does not beep continously till turned off. Hence appts. could be missed if you dont hear the faint alarm. This is a big problem with SE cells all of them, and its silly that the company does nothing about it. 4.Whenever you are through with tweaking one setting the screen goes back to the orignal instead of just a step back, so you need to go through the whole menu again to change something else. Try it in the walkman player or write message and see.. 5.cannot create folders in inbox... hey what if i want to keep messages from one person in one folder?? Why not give me that option?? SE r u listening?? even a rs. 2500/- worth nokia does that...

I bought this phone on Saturday. i went to the shop to buy a Nokia phone but sales gut suggested me to go for SE. i'm happy with the sound quality and camera. they r gr8. but i am a bit disappointed with the video quality of W700i.i wish it could play full length video songs in a good quality. Otherwise it an amazing product.

I have had a 12 month contract which has just ended and I thought I'd share my experiences with you all! My first W700i on contract decided to pack up after 1 month. I could make calls but no on ecould hear me, the infrared would turn itself on and my texts would be automatically deleted. My service provider diagnosed a fault and I was given another one. This one has now packed up! Service provider again diagnosed the problem as a faulty battery. But guess what, the service provider couldn't replace my battery as the time limit had run out, and Sony wouldn't either, so I have to cough up the �30 if I want to sell it. Great phone....not. Very poor phone, rubbish battery life, hardly any memory, you need the expandable memory card. I got about 2 MP3 songs in my phone.

Well,its one of the lovely phones i have ever owned..though its quite tuf to transfer the vidio files from the cell to a PC. The audio quality is not that great compare to Nokia seeries. I would suggest all of you to go for W710i or 810i.

I just have bought a new w700i .... wanna share a unique feature that i came to notice ...dont know whether it is common before too .... as soon as you connect it to a PC or laptop using its data cable, it acts as a parasite and charges its battery in parallel. isn't that grt !!!

I was using phones of another manufacturer for past 9 or 8 years and I've never used a Sony Erricson. Recently, I saw this one [w700i] i was fell in love with it. I thought that Sony Erricson phones doesnot support any third party softwares at all. But it was very late before I knew the real fact. Now I got third party softwares Like OPERA Mini, Navigator, WORLD 3D Clock etc on my phone. Trust me, we got Opera Mini in other phones as well, but the version for Sony Erricson is superb..Its a cool browsing experince..And about the themes..Its awesome..The screen clarity is superb.. How Ever,Sony might have done something to incorporate a Video player that also plays file formats other than the 3gps..Thats the only drawback I find in this piece of great technology.

I am using this phone from last 5 months, the features which this set offers ave nice in comparision to its price, if u dont want to spend much and a music freak, u can definately go for this phone. As such the camera is of 2MP but it does not have auto focus, so picture quality is not so gr8.

Great value for your money, camera is very good in godd lighting condition, audio is mind boggling. Go for it. My fone is still one week old and people say that there is a problem with the joy stick, let me use more and experience this problem, if any.

Well its an awesome phone. You must get it. It was weird when i read the review regarding screen of the walkman series doesnt have any other colour display than orange.... see for yourself in options and you will get what you want... w700i mobile is very good for mucic & clerity sound but vidio softer is not avalable in market so you please send me vidio softer in my email address mukund_bhakre@rediffmail.com

ive had this phone almost a year now and the joystick nor the battery have broken. It is an amazing phone all round, but condsidering it is a walkman phone and is especially for music I would have expected it to be louder.

The phone is great , but corns are too obvious. The main problem is the camera. It lacks auto focus and macro mode. the camera seems useless because of these problems. But rest of the features are super

Just bought the phone yesterday. Amazing phone! Absolutely loved the sound quality. A little concerned about the sound quality though. My advice - upgrade to a 512 mb or 1 gb memory stick and it can give u the quintessential i-pod experience and a whole lot more. Overall amazing features - a very welcome change after my relatively ancient nokia 6600 - my faithful companion for over 2 years. And damn guys - the phone is slick!!! i fell for the mettalic looks, the W810i has got a 'plasticy' look about it. The mini torch is damn cute, wish it has autofocus though, then the package would have been unbeatable. Still, go for it - its gonna roack ur world!!!!

wheel, what i can say about my cellphone, its nice. the unic problem is that i cant connect my cellphone to wap. and y try and try but i cant. i call to my operator and they say me that dont know about this problem excuse me if my words are BAD. cause i dont know english, just a litle bit. bye

Hi i recently have purchased a sony w700i mobile which was my many days ambition and after purchasing i'm feeling proud and an good mobile with me which contains all the features and also has the ability to take over Nokia phones. but i request you to change the backlight of the phone in the upcoming phones as it affects the eyes in the night. ok so i got this phone a few days ago, and before i did i was torn between this and the w810i, first i considered the price, thw 700i is a little cheaper, but the w810i has a few more features, when i was looking at specifications on different sites, it said the w700i didnt have a speaker, internet, 3d games , an autofocus and rubbish battery life. all of these things , except the autofocus is wrong, there is everythin that u get on the w810i except without auto focus , but on thids camera it makes absolutely no difference. the camera is good the walkman is amazing and it looks so cooool!!, if your looking for a phone with excellent features, a good look and well worth the money , get this... its withut doubt the best SE phone out to date =D...oh and btw...the joystick is completely easy to use

can't live without music so im very thankfull for this phone, superb and excellent sounds quality, a very good camera too, forget about the autofocus nah...the pictures are still very good when transffered to a pc, im enjoying it every song i played on my phone's mp3 damn nokia won't rocks this sounds quality! u better switch to s.e phone now!

I have just got this phone and i think it is outstanding.Nice feel,nice size.The camera is excellent and the design is excellent.I have had all types of mobile phones,Nokia,Motorola,etc but i am now totally sold on Sony ericsson

It's an amazing phone for the people who 'rocks' and love the music, excellent facilities , MP3 ringtones, good photo feature (not satisfied though 2.0 mega pixel !). And finally comes to the head phones (handsfree given with Phone), looks wonderfull, but when u are on call ,u feel irritating as it completely bloks the ears and feel the echo, and rest of that , virtually u will be on 'waves' with superb quality of sound. Thanks to Sony Erricsson!, this was phone i was waiting for!! Cheers Arvind
