Rating: Reviewed by OH DO U LUV THIS FONE?!?!? on 30/06/2009 THIS IS ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. it got 15 wallpapers and about half of them are like ones that move. it got 4 long kinda tune/song things. u can also send all ringtones and everything that ur phone has by via bluetooth. it looks stylish too. and so far nothing bad about my phone .alt0gether 5 STARZ WHICH IS OUTSTANDING. Cameras rubbish and the memory started moving all my files all around the phone so i couldnt find them. i would avoid this phone at all costs as it is really bad and save up for a samsung tocco lite as that is one amazing phone. oh and the battery life is appaling 1 day it lasted and i wasnt texting that much i was lucky to get three days out of it and i just thought it is a very dissapointing phone so remember dont buy it! Rating: Reviewed by David on 21/06/2009 Well, i don't have this phone anymore.... When i bought this phone in October 07, i was really excited. However, if my memory serves me correctly, after about 4 days, a constant green light came up on the side of my phone, which in turn wasted my battery life. It was the most annoying thing ever. I got rid of this after a while by resorting to throwing my phone on the floor a couple of times. So much for a brand new phone. Then, after about 10 months, the left hand side buttons began not to work. This was even more annoying, as i couldn't press back and had to normally turn my phone off and on again, which was terribly annoying. Then, they stopped working altogether, so i decided to get my present phone, Nokia N73, which ain't that good (this is possible due to it being my older brothers phone first then i began using it, so we have had it for about 2 and a half years) Otherwise from these mishaps, the phone is quite good. The 2 mega-pixel camera is good enough for me. The Walkman on this phone is the best feature for me. I got a 512mb memory stick with mine and it held up to 250 tracks if i remember correctly. The menus were easy to go around, texting was quite easy. Overall, i think 3 stars is quite adequate... Rating: Reviewed by jane on 20/06/2009 this phone is top of the tree its a good size 4 me it will fit in my pocket easy to carry light and simple to use. there is 1 little problem the walkmann is anoying to turn off but altogether it is a good phone the keypad is cool i like the colours on it (orange/white) so if your looking 4 a nice little phone then i thinnk this might be the one 4 you. i trush sony ericsson there phones are brill all my phones have been sony ericsson and they havnt let me down yet!!! I've had it for quite a while and all of my keys have cracked & the camera quality is slackingg. The slide up is slowing down and slowly becoming harder to slide up but that isn't a major issue from this phone. Almost everything is falling apart from the phone & the internet is pretty slow & rarely/hardly switches off on me. Other then that, the music player is probably it's best feature. I strongly do not recommend this phone. Cam is not brill, but how many people use a phone cam for the important stuff? not many i bet, so the quality does not really matter for day to day things. The music side is very good, get a decent size card and its good to go really. Keys on a mates phone have partly cracked, but he has got insurance so just swapped it. The nice slim design and the cool interface, but after about 10 months the earpiece volume stopped working. It was under warranty and was fixed easily enough. Now the warranty has expired and the number keys cracked, the camera stopped working, and now one of the main function buttons has stopped working. I used to feel some customer loyalty to Sony Ericsson, but no longer. But looks are skin deep. The keys began to crack and break within weeks even after having them repaired they went again. The battery last only a few hours; The camera has no flash and the back is very hard to get off. I also find that from time to time callers are unable to hear me in the other end. As time went by, the quality began to decline when the buttons slowly cracked and became loose. After that, my sound no longer worked and continues to be mute. I have the limited edition AIDS red one, so maybe mine was made different and is less likely to break? I don't know, but i've had this phone practically like 7 months, and i'm a pretty heavy texter and i use it ALOT. No keys have broken, nothing's stopped working. Since then, the keys have almost all cracked, the left menu button came off, the memory card doesn't register, it vibrates if and when it feels like it and the speaker is barely holding out. It's a shame because it could have been a really good phone. And it's certainly put me off Sony Ericsson for now. Eventually was replaced but this "new" one suddenly went blank and screen wouldn't display - they won't repair as they say it is damaged inside handset. It is very user friendly and had a great battery life. The big problem i had with it was the screen. After 5 week the screen packed in. After getting a quote to fix it (being the same price i paid for the phone) i declined. Have always had a sony ericsson and love them but this one does not have the same shelf life as the older models and is not as solid. Rating: Reviewed by kelvin on 09/04/2009 the w810i i had before i think is better than the w580i. the w810i has a xenon flash for the camera, good for night pics, camera pics are more crisp and also the light can be used as a flashlight. i now own a w580i and i like it but if anywhere in my country still had it i would have bought it. the w580i advantage is bigger screen, cool side lights, play louder but i don't understand why using the same headset and settings the w810i is far outstanding than the w580i. i rather music and the w580i don't want anything with the w810i. i don't know how s. ericsson drop in it's walkman quality but it annoys me so the older models of walkman phones are more powerfull so are nokias. Sony ericsson walkman phone are not what they used to be. I text about 400 text's a day and in two and a half days my phone will be over 95% full, so a bigger messaging capasity would be better. Other than that, i love this phone. I have dropped it quite a few times and only dents and scratches, no serious damage taken, so i am pretty glad with the damage it will take. Looking forward to buying the upgrade thought. Thank you. When i first got it i wasnt disapointed, but now am. The 5,8 and 0 buttons r all cracked and there are hairline cracks on the 4,7,9 aswell. both the soft keys are also loose. I had the phone for about 3 months before it started to go really wrong. it keeps just going off during calls and when i turn it back on everything is reset (Date, Time, Theme,Calls) and inbox is in the wrong order. The battery life has slowly detearated over time and now lasts about 5 hours. It was a good fun phone for the first 2 months but now is not worth turning on. Defenetly worth gettin for a temporary phone before buyin a more expensive and better quality one. I would recommend the LG Viewty or Nokia 6300. Rating: Reviewed by Becky on 06/04/2009 got this phone march 08 and screen broke a week after i got it, my dad repaired it and it was fine ater. then the glass protection for the screen fell off and i had to be so carefull where i put my phone and how i put it on the table or worksurface. in january 09 dropped it in the bath and had to take evrything apart to let it dry and put it all back together and still works fine today, all buttons work and evrything, shake still works and music player. my advise would be to get this phone but when you get it be carefull with it because if you break the screen, because its an LCD u can get it replaced. :) Rating: Reviewed by rebecca on 05/04/2009 i got my sony erricson w580i christmas time 2007. it looked nice and i couldn't wait to start using it. it was great for the first 3 months. until one of the keys cracked. i had read about it before but i was carefull with my phone. i took it back to the shop and it took 2 weeks until it was ready. after another two months. two more of the keys had broken. i took it back to the shop again. they assured me they had put stronger keys on it this time and they where right. it hasnt broken since. My keys haven't broke yet and I text an awful lot.. so you people whose keys have cracked must press the keys pretty hard! One thing I have noticed is that the phone is very delicate. The lights on it and the Walkman shake control are a very good idea and are excellent features of the W580i. A downside to this cool phone is its battery life.. Well the battery life of my W580i isn't very long at all.. Charge it every night and it still runs down pretty quick. Apart from those minor things, it's a good phone and it does the job. Well thats what i thought at first when i bought it. When having my w580i my number 1 button cracked, my speaker went, my phone kept going on and off on its own, the walkman kept stoping my music from playing, i could never hear anybody on the other side of the phone, my internet never worked on it. Basicly i hated it. Yea it was cool, stylish and good looking to show off to my mates but it never worked properly and what use is that? Pesonally i have always loved the k800i. Rating: Reviewed by jade on 03/04/2009 please listen to my review of the phone because i know the ups and downs....but there arent downs really. its very stylish and looks new. and people complaining about the buttons breaking i say that you may have got it from a not soo good phone company. i bought this phone about 2 years ago and works perfectly and has had no glitches or problems. and the other good thing is that it is cheap some people got it for £100 but i got mine from carphone warehouse for £80. some phone companys sell them a bit for expensive than others. if youre looking for a phone for just the music or mostly texting this phone can do the job. it depends how much you take care of phones. if you drop it once and it may look fine on the outside it doesnt mean its fine on the inside. you may have snapped or moved something to cause screen not coming on, keys not working etc. please heres a good tip BUY IT ON O2!!!! o2 is the best one you can get for this phone and other ones like orange are rubbish. this phone has: *blue tooth *music player *shake control *camera this is a perect phone but if you have had problem...then take it back and get a diffrent type of son ericsson or just get something totally diffrent. this review is my point of view and understandings of the w580i and basically...i love it. I dont recommend this phone AT ALL. A bunch of my friends have it, and all they do, is complain that thier buttons cracked, just like mine, and there keys as well have become unresposive. The left selection button will also stop working and there is a screw on the right side of the top half of the phone that will pop out, and your phone will get stuck either up or down. Good points. it counts how many steps you take each day. i also jog and it trys to calculate the distance i run and times me. which i think is a good selling point for people like me.The MP3 isn't that bad... never lets me down and works well with my computer. i wouldn't sugest to anyone they should buy it just for that... The buttons on mine and my partners handset have fallen apart. I dropped the phone one day, not majorly and it literally fell to pieces. Ngu on 03/03/2009 I was a loyal Telus customer for 6 years and never had any issues with the phones that I received while on 2 3-year contracts with them. However, as local number portability came about, I began researching other service providers. What drew me to Rogers was the Sony Ericsson w580i - in pink, of course. It was the epitome of 'girliness' and the beginning of 7 months of pure utter drama. On July 21st 2008, I switched over to Rogers and received my Sony Ericsson w580i. The phone, upon first inspection, was poorly constructed. I barely used the phone for anything other than phone calls and texting. If the intent of the phone was to be 'useless', then it fulfilled the description exceptionally well. The first issue came about on September 22nd 2008. This involved cracked keys, which I found were to be a common issue with this model. I sent the phone in and it was promptly returned to me with the keypad replaced. The next issue arrived on November 20th 2008. The softkeys were becoming detached from the frame of the phone. Again, I sent it in. The third repair occurred on November 28 2008. For some odd reason, this issue (broken memory card cover) was not repairable and so, I received my first refurbished replacement phone. Next issue came about on February 3 2009. The slider phone stopped sliding vertically upwards and instead, began sliding diagonally, slightly, to the left. While not an issue with the phone function, I was not satisfied with the quality of the phone. So, I sent it in again and the service center again determined my phone was defective and sent me another refurbished replacement. So, if you have been keeping track, that has been 4 repairs and 2 replacements so far. All in a little over 6 months. Lo and behold, that replacement began doing the same thing - sliding diagonally, slightly, to the left. A little ridiculous, don't you think? I call Sony Ericsson customer support and request to speak with a supervisor after I am told over and over again by customer service representatives (CSRs) that my only option was to send it in for repairs again. The first supervisor I spoke to at Sony Ericsson was C****. When he got put on the line, I immediately got the impression that his only goal was to superficially appease me and get me off the phone. He very hurriedly suggested a swap, for a new or like new model, and then got me off the phone without even mentioning a reference number, RMA, or other details essential to the solution. So, I call in to Sony Ericsson customer support yet again. To make a long story short, I had to call in multiple times before I got the necessary documentation. I finally got the e-mail from the repair center and the day after, February 18th 2009, printed everything off and sent the phone off. This counts as the fifth repair as it is the fifth time I have sent my phone off. I received a brand new replacement on February 23rd 2009. Can you believe there was a problem with that phone too? The phone was missing the spring inside the memory card slot and so, I was unable to use the memory card with it (it wouldn't stay down). Defective, once more. While still at the repair shop, I called Sony Ericsson customer support yet again. Instead of sending my phone in for the 6th time, which I was determined not to do - as this was getting beyond ridiculous - I was offered a swap by the Sony Ericsson CSR. She suggested that I go to a Rogers Wireless store and request a swap. To make a long story short, I was refused a swap at many Rogers Wireless stores. So, where does that leave me? I wasted countless time trying to actively solve my problem and was late to work twice. I still have a phone that does not allow me to use a memory card. On February 26th 2009, I call in to Sony Ericsson again to see if there's anything they can do. The CSR pretty much laughed me off the phone, telling me that all I need is a workable phone - why does it matter if it's new or refurbished? I re-iterated my history of issues with the phone and the brand new replacement that I had in my hand. He informed me that my only choice was to send it in for repair (which would have been my 6th repair) and then laughed me off the phone. Discouraged, I called into Rogers again and explained my problem to a very sympathetic CSR who tried her best to solve my problem. She spoke with tech support and after concluding that there was nothing they could do for me, she transferred me to Customer Relations. I then spoke with the most helpful CSR from either party that I have ever spoken with. She seemed determine not to let me off the phone until we had found a suitable resolution for me. She offered to upgrade my phone and while I was reluctant, since the w580i was the reason I switched to Rogers, she convinced me that my history with the w580i was too horrible to take another chance with it. All buttons have cracked but 0, however, small thin crack, doesnt effect the use of the phone at all, still fully functional, doesnt bother me. The MP3 player works awesome. Frequently record music from TV or my computer on "Record Sound" in "Entertainment menu" can access there or in My Stuff Music section. Those play as loud and well as the MP3 and dont have to buy the song. From "My Stuff" - "Music" select "more" and go to "use as" gives you the options to use various songs for your alarm clock, etc. I have 5 different alarms I use daily and all are set to a different song. I set my ring tone and text message this way with shorter portions of songs I liked. As I said the volume comes out extremely loud if when you record you place the phone right at speaker when recording, just have to do in a quiet room or you will have background conversations. I have also downloaded CDs from laptop to phone with the USB works great. The gam es demos, have purchased from phone and online thru AT&T work great. Earphones and sterio work great, shows song ID and station ID on the screen. You can request song ID and its texted to my phone at no charge, however I do pay for text messaging options on bill. Pedometer works great, my son uses daily, likes to see how much he walks around sch campus. Text and Picture messaging is great. I have also shared music, full songs via text msg, to do while on write msg arrow down and over to "add sound" Can set personal pics, or pics of favorite groups as desktop, and screen saver. Transfer from PC, have even taken pic of PC screen from phone and used, looks great. I keep my phone on night mode perminently, dont know if that is why none of my pic are dark. They seem to have clear quality. reviewing pics, "select all pics", then more and go to bottom "view mode", select "5x5 thumbnails" it brings up all your pics on small boxes, so if you have alot of pics can scroll thru many to find one you are looking for also when in this mode you view pics side screen, makes pic bigger and better to view, arrow with navagation button left to right to go thru pics. top right select more and hide icons and few words around edges are removed. to bring back hit top line button above arrow back and walkman button. Can set to friends pics pop up on screen when they call, even their own fav song, by recording as I mentioned. Alot of things you can do with this phone. I love mine, its fully functional the buttons cracked I never notice anymore, and they dont hurt fingers when texting or bother me at all, and the phone still functions normally. I have a 1gb memory card and have 812 pics on it, 113 videos (some 38 min long) example christmas, birthdays, etc. 2 albums on MP3, and 49 Songs I personally recorded from record sound, renamed as the song and group, and use like my MP3 also.(but have to access in my music) I have recorded Music Video's, from computer or TV using Video Camera, and comes out fine, Looks like you bought online the music video, pic and sound is great. I love my phone, wouldnt trade it for the world!!! for those of you who have the problems with the sim card memory, my son did, you have to unblock it. AT&T is who I have and here is what they say to do to correct that. Mine never did, but here it is: PUK Code - Unblock SIM Card If your phone/device is requesting a PUK code, learn how to unblock your SIM card. How to Unblock your SIM Card You'll need your phone in hand to unblock your SIM Card. First, enter the 8-digit PUK code, (get it from your provider) then press OK/Yes. Note: Some Motorola phone users will need to enter **05* if "enter PUK" is not already displayed. After entering **05*, then enter the 8-digit PUK code and press OK. Select a new PIN code, then press OK/Yes. Re-enter the PIN code, then press OK/Yes. If the codes were entered successfully, the phone is ready for use. Important: If the incorrect PUK (Pin Unlock Key) code is entered 10 times in a row, the SIM card will become permanently locked, and you must purchase a new SIM card. And here's what sucks - they won't let you return or replace a phone with a cracked screen - even though I'm certain poor manufacturing would have caused that to happen no matter what. The major drawbacks included the following: - the keys: I, being a student, text a lot.. while my keys never broke unlike my friends', i had to make sure i pressed each key gently so that they wouldn't break. - it malfunctioned: I owned the phone for three months before it froze and couldn't turn on. The only downsode Ive had is that about a month or two ago, 2 of the buttons stopped working. My navigation up key and my 'Return(go back) key. The phone is still usable but as I cant go back to main screen I have to turn the phone off and back on alot to get to the main screen to be able to access anything else. But it is over a year old. Other than that, fantastic. Still love the look of it. Sound quality is excellent too. Rating: Reviewed by adila on 04/01/2009 well, this being my 2nd phon ever and my first se, i was quite impressed, it looked cool, and the music player was quite cool. only after a few months i noticed that it kept freezing after i had been playing music for about half an hour, with just a black screen that kept being needed to slide up, to return to menu. after a week or so on a ride in disneyland, which was sort of a simulator type the phone fell out of my pocket, without me realising and the scren cracked and so did the buttons. otherwise it is quite good and the camera is reasonable though i would use a proper camera for imporatant pics. I have it in pink and its just gorgeous..(:. Its also not that bulky so it easily fits into my pockets. The music player speakers are outstanding. It's a real walkman phone for anyone who loves music like me. The buttons at first are very hard to get used to as my old phone was a samsung U600 and their buttons are completely different but after a couple of days everything was fine. I would really recommend this to everyone out there. The only one slight problem is that it doesn't take well to being dropped as i have a few minor scratches on the back but sure it's the same with any phone? It broke through no fault of its own, after it drowned in my bag after my water bottle exploded. Not good. So anyway, part from pretty much all my keys cracking and no flash on the camera, it was a really good phone. The mp3 was good, and it was my main music source. And so was the battery life. I dropped it a couple of times before and it survived. The camera was also decent. I bought a memory card so memory wasn't really a problem. I'm considering getting this phone again, simply because it was so good and easy to use, but i haven't completley made up my mind yet. It looked sexi and great, but within 2 months the "2" button broke and I had no idea why. I soon found out it was because I was no pressing the buttons in the right place when I was texting, Like it was my fault! Now 4 of the buttons are broken. Suddenly about 2 months ago I noticed a little blue light that shines on the left when I put too much pressure on the phone, now it just flashes whenever I slide it up, its so annoying. After 6 months it told me to insert the sim, I had the sim in there I know I did, so I took it out and put it back in, still said the same thing, thank god I had it brought it not tied to any sim, I got my old sim out and it worked, but I dont get what happened to make it reject the other sim? I asked other people that had the Sony Ericsson w580i if it happened to them, they replied 'yes'. Later the photo changer thing didn't work and a message appeared saying 'No memory left. Would you like to delete some files?' and now the same message appears when i use bluetooth. And then the next day it wouldn't turn on. The phones good points are the pedometer and it looks wicked. But after 3 months my * key wouldnt work and all the buttons used to text cracked in half. Then in november 08, the phone wouldnt accept incoming calls, it became slow to operate and one of the buttons fell of. I took it back to the shop and they said that the damage was 'simple wear and tear' and they were not liable for the damage and would therefore not replace it. I was not happy! I have just bought the lg cookie and it is 5x better by far! Considering at the time i bought it for £99.99 i have to say that it is a complete waste of money. Rating: Reviewed by claire on 04/12/2008 lasted me for about 6 months, if that. occasionally it tends to freeze and go blank, and you have to take the battery out and put it back in, and thats difficult because the back is awkward to remove. also my select key is on the verge of breaking off completely. and it scratches very easily even if you drop it lightly. the back scrathces easily also where the phone slides up and down on the shiny bit (near the camera). good volume, and the shake control works well (usually), its unpredictable whether it will work or not. it has good memory if it comes with a memory card (my memory card was free with it from carphone warehouse). the fm radio is not very good, rather crackly. a good thing about this phone is the themes, not many come with it, but get your friends to send you some if they have any type of sony erricsson. I thought this phone was fab when i got it, but after a while, its faults come through. the step counter is good, and the fitness application was ve ry good for me, as i am very sporty, and do lots of running. it does not have a large memory capacity for text messages. The camera is 2 mega pixels, and i was expecting more from it, but it is quite shocking. And if you have a love for editing your pictures on your phone... this is not the phone for you! It looks attractive, and is slim and easy to hold & fit in your pocket, but it is actually not as good as it looks, although the walkman application is amazing, i have around 500 songs on, its great. but sadly i wont have anymore because it will not switch on. it froze & switched off, now it wont switch on, i have tried charging it, but it does not respond to the charger, i have taken the battery & the sim card out, dusted it, put the battery and sim card back in, tried again. but still no response... this phone is good, if you want a phone that is going to last you a couple of months or so. really not worth the money. so try to avoid this phone, as it has a tendancy to not want to switch on. Not so long after that the keys started going again and i yet again had half of my keypad buttons cracked and i was no longer able to use 3 of the selective buttons, and after leaving my phone in a car over night my phone therefor stopped working. The keys crack down the center leaving a little line their, the keys still work correctly though. The pedometer is a great feature it dosent only tell you your steps in a day on your screen, it count's you calorie's and how many miles you walk in a day. The memory was brilliant on it, i had well over 100 songs, 100's of pictures and could still save all of my texts. Sound quality was great too. Camera was fine. But... my space button for when i was texting broke, so that when i was texting i had to use the navigation buttons which was annoying. Then my buttons all cracked. Then one day my phone died as of low battery, when i plugged it into the charger a couple of hours later, the screen was totally blue with thin lines covering the screen and every about 20 seconds a bright white light blinked from it. It is now totally broke and I am going to buy a Samsung U800 today. The "select" and "back" buttons are coming out and the slide is already getting dodgy. It also isn't very strong, parts of the phone i can wiggle around and it doesn't feel sturdy enough in your hand. However, this phone is getting very cheap now and isn't all that bad. It can text and call, use the internet and has an amazing sound quailty, if you fancy a cheap phone that does the basics and is great for playong music, this is for you. Plus two other buttons cracked. i sent it back to the Carphone Warehouse they had it for 5 days, then they rang me to tell me it won't be fixed for another 14 days, but then they rang me today to tell me they could not fix it and now i have got 10% discount off a new phone. The 5 Button Stopped Working, Meanin I Couldnt Use The Letters J,K Or L In Any Of My Texts Or Call Any One's Number I Didnt Have Saved With A Five In And Making It Impossible To Top-Up If My 16 Digit Code Had A Five In. 2. The Clear Button Stopped Working, Meaning If I Was Texting And Made A Simple Mistake I Would Have To Start The Whole Text Over Again. 3. My Play Button Stopped Working, Not Too Muchh Hassle But Still A Pain. 4.My * Button Stopped Working. 5. The Background Light Flashes Decides Wether It Wants To Light Up Or Not Makin It Impossible To Be Able To Do Anything. 6.its Stopped Sliding Up And Down Altogether, And If You Try To Push It Gently Down It Refuses To Move And Makes A Terrible Crunching Noise. Despite knowing about the keys cracking I bought the phone anyway, and only 1 of them had cracked, although my # key was just starting to. So where to start with what went wrong? Problems with it freezing, switching off when making calls/sending texts, my # key stopped working so had to use the navigator button to put a space in texts, used to lock up whilst playing music, random messages coming up about formatting it and needing to register it...by turning it off and back on again the messages would go, but it's really irritating when it does it regularly. And problems with transferring music/pictures between the computer and phone. I really liked it to start with, which is why there are so many good reviews from people who've only had it a few weeks. Give it a few months and you'll see where I'm coming from! I do not usualy break phones, and I look after them very carefully, but I have dropped the phone once or twice. The buttons 1,2,3,7 and 0 have snapped in half, and just by pressing a button at a certain angle, I am certain I will break it, which really peeves me off, and I hate the fact the the buttons do look pathetically weak. My screen has also been damaged somehow, which is a shame, and I cannot go on with this phone. It was good at times but overall isnt that great. What also annoyed me was the Sony memory card, no-compatible with ANYTHING ELSE. I really wanted to put my photos on to my pc, and although it comes with a cable to do so, other machines cannot accept it. The music was okay until I turned it6 louder, and it sounds, well, bad! This had to happen I guess, but if you are going to get the phone, don't try full vloume. The lights were lovely, but no custumization! :( I would have loved to do that, but you have to change the whole theme and fiddle with stuff but when you go to the walman, it changes back to yellow and green. Damn. I got the grey and blue version, and its goreous, yes. Me and my friend have swapped backs so mine is grey and pink which is awesome, and my back comes off relatively easily. What peeved me off was the phone charm hole. It connected to the back which could slide off, so I kept losing them :( if you really dont care about stuff like this, and will listen through headphones, wont use phone charms, dont care about lights, will keep your memory card in your phone at all times, and dont care about the keyboard that may break after 30 seconds of usage, you should get this phone. But if you do, dont keep it long. I am not dissapointed, every phone has good and bad, and I really have only critisized this phone, its pretty and does its job. They only offered to send me a reconditioned phone, when there warranty states 'as new'. I had to wait in to receive there deliveries 8am till 6pm. First delivery they sent the wrong phone, the second the replacement was scratched and the third the replacement was scratched. I wrote to their directors but still couldn't get any better service. The problem is still not resolved and I may have to take court action. VIRGIN service has gone right down hill, more like the old NTL service!!! (poor). I found phones4U helpful today. They are aware that there is a design fault with the W580i. The buttons behind the keys aren't flat, so the flat keys eventually break. I have emailed sony ericcson to find out they will be truthful about this and find out if they have modified the new models. I wouldn't buy another. All of the keys cracked and is really annoying when your texting and it keeps freezing when your playng a song or looking through your pictures. And it has the worst battery life I have ever seen in a phone. My old nokia could last upto 2 weeks this phone however hardly lasts 4 days. Please avoid this phone it is a complete waste of money and a huge dissapointment. If you have your heart set on a sony ericsson get the k800i. It was a great phone and the only little niggle i had with it was that there was no light for the camera but it didnt bother me too much because the camera is really good. i would have given it about 4.8 rating BUT.... I had this phone for about 7/8 months before things started to go wrong. First the back button went a bit funny, would only work after pressing it a few times then it went completely. then th select button above it went exactly the same, at this point i was having to turn the phone off to get out of the menus. the up button went after that and before eventually giving up on the phone and returning to my old w550i the on/off button started to go and it was at this point i had to stop using the phone completely. I havnt as yet had a chance to take it to be fixed but i do check every so often whether the buttons have decided to work or not but they havnt. I have also heard from a few aquaintances who have had the phone quite a while that thier buttons have started to go a bit iffy. Like the keys on the phone cracking a few weeks after buying it! Which i was not impressed with! Then in september, my phone fell apart, literally! The top part of the phone came off, which then enabled the higher keypad to fall out and, the worst of all, the screen to hang loose! Not so long after this happened, the screen blacked out, days later the phone screen would return to normal, but then a few days later the screen would black out again! Many of my friends have this phone, and when i told them about it, they said it happened to their phone aswell, and after looking on the Internet on different review, many of them were complaining of the same problems! This phone normally costs £89 but I got it for £59 due to my line of work. The walkman is great; you can store 100+ full length tracks on it easily and the key functions are really easy to use. The camera isn't very good as it's only 2 mp but I rarely use my phone for that feature. I think the flashing lights and "shake" functions are really amusing and unique as this is one of the few phones on the market to offer these facilites. I've read alot of reviews saying that the keys crack easily and I'm sad to say they do, I've had the phone about a month now and there's a noticeable crack right down the middle of my "2" key. But like all phones, this is probably just due to excessive use of this key; texting, playing games, dialling numbers etc. So I guess it's really my fault. Overall the phone is really good though. It's very user friendly and looks really stylish. I have the pink version of it and so far I'm happy with it. Rating: Reviewed by sian on 22/10/2008 do not buy this phone. on the second day of having this phone it froze, so i had to take the battery and back in again. it continued to do so every day for about a week and every time i turned it back on it would say "insert sim" so then i would have to take the sim out and put it back in.. which would mean all my text messages jumbled up and my newly received messages would hide themselves half way down my inbox.. which was annoying. the freezing stopped.. but then all my keypad buttons broke. much like EVERYONE else who has this phone. within about 2 months of having it i dropped it for the first time, not from a high distance, and there was absolutely no resistance whatsoever and it immediately broke. it still turns on, and rings, and i can dial and ring.. but without a screen. it's just white. i refuse to admit it was completely my fault as my old phone survived about 50 careless drops. the camera quality is poor. the video quality is even worse. much worse. the front of the screen is easily pulled off the front, meaning shoddy design. the ONE good thing i will say is good quality sound. but to be fair, it's not worth having a rubbish phone. buy an ipod instead. My problem is unique, all though the phone shows me full network , most of the time the phone is switched off for those who try calling me. The phone is unable to select the network automatically and this happens only with my sim , when other's sim are put in the phone works fine. I got my sim changed twiced thinking that it's sim problem . later I realized that it cud be phone problem so got the software upgraded but no change. After an argument with my boyfriend i picked up the nearest thing to me whilst sitting in the car, it happened to be my trusty w580i, i threw it out of the window and watched it smash to pieces on the road, the following day, early hours i went to look for it, whilst raining, I found most pieces except the on button and the bit that covers the microphone, i have put it together, and woohoo it works !!! i'm well impressed, so what if i need a stylus to turn it on thro the little hole, ive not lost any data, nor have anymore of my keys cracked!! And even after bouncing along the road the screen isn't marked !! So it's a big 10 out of 10 for me. It now looks a little shabby so may invest in a new one, and this time it will be another w580i. In camera mode you can't zoom at all it's only in zoom mode that you can use its rubbish zoom. Music wise, it's ok but the keys do crack and it's a pretty fragile phone. I also really like how it counts how many steps you've taken. The camera is pretty good, but its abit annoying how its doesn't have a flash. First, a button cracked... but it was not falling off so i left it as is. Then multiple started to crack and 1 fell off as I was dialing. So no biggie as long as the keys still work you know.. Nothing a piece of clear scotch tape couldn't easily fix. However, about a week later my space key used in texts started working only sometimes. After a while it got impossible to use so I had to move to hitting the right arrow twice just to space. Got used to it and everything was going okay. Then, my up arrow key and the back button/left button started to only work sometimes and now they rarely work. I have to go into my browser and quickly cancel just to leave a menu. This phone is terrible. Plus, I really dont like the idea of shaking the phone to change a tune. Lets say I'm running some where. If I am running hard the phone will change the song I'm listening to automatically without me wanting it to. The keys are easily breakable, the memory capacity is relatively low, when most other walkman phones either include a large amount of internal memory, or include a memory expansion unit (like a MS or SD card). The light effects are a good idea, but poorly implemented. The phone has several features it could have taken advantage of, but didn't. And the internal editors (the DJ's) suck compared to other models. All in all I would reccomend buying the w810i instead. It was replaced by this phone on the markets, but the replacment doesn't live up to the quality of its predecessor. The w580i can't stand up to the w810i. Rating: Reviewed by carla on 08/09/2008 had my phone for about 9 months now, and had no problems whatsoever up until about a month ago. the keys have cracked which i'm not too bothered about because they still work.. but every now and again the screen will go black but my phone is still working (can't count the number of times i have accidentally rung somebody up because i can't see what i'm doing!) and it also freezes and takes a while to come back to life. as i am typing this, my w580i has frozen and won't work. i took out the battery and put it back in, and now it won't turn on. not a very useful phone for someone who uses it constantly on a daily basis. very disappointed indeed. Rating: Reviewed by Katie on 07/09/2008 well, where do i start with this phone. sony ericsson should not let people still buy this phone. i had this phone for 2 weeks and the slide broke from no fault of my own. i then recieved a new fone which the majority of buttons spilt in half. then a week of so after i noticed that there was a small crack in the screen i left it and now i cannot see any of my screen due to a large black crack this as u can imagen makes it very hard to work the phone however i continued using it thinking it couldnt get any worse it then started to freeze then restart itself after that the battery lasted an hour or so this is without sending texts or ringing today ive tried to charge my fone and realised that it wont charge ive tryed many chargers and its not the charger its the fone ive never had a problem with sony ericssons but this has put me off them for life!!!! stay away from this fone!!!!!! At first i loved this phone for first few weeks but now i must conclude this is the worst phone i have ever had. The buttons are small and have cracked then fall off if you text too much. After about 2 weeks my memory card went wrong and i took it back to vodafone who swapped the card. After another couple of weeks i went to listen to my music through the headphones that came with the phone only to find out tht they were broken nd that they were missing a pin. I took it to vodafone who told me that the headphones were not part of the phone, so i contacted sony ericson who replaced them with a new pair. After about a month 2 of the buttons cracked and the phone kept freezing, i sent the phone back nd was without one for 2 weeks while sony ericcson replaced the keypad, only for 3 more buttons to break, so i sent it back and was without a phone for another couple of weeks. After repacing every key on the phone, my phone was ok for about 2months, but now my ok, back button and top arrow button wil l not work so i have to turn my phone of the get of the menu!! This phone is nothing but a waste of money! Nearly six months now. At first, when I got it for my birthday in March, I was extremely pleased with it, as it was a big step up from my old phone, and it was very slim, had a big screen, and had funky lights. :P All in all, it was a fab phone. Unfortunately though, a month ago the top-left button (the one mostly used for 'confirm') stopped working, but I just used the middle button instead. Then, about a week ago when I was on holiday in Germany I found that the '1' key had a crack down the middle and the 'back' and 'up' key stopped working as well. So basically now all I use for my phone is music. I have to admit though, I have dropped the phone a few times (but the screen has hardly any scratches!) and so the phone had started to lag a bit, for example when I slide it up it will take a little bit longer for the screen to appear. Overall, it's a pretty good phone, with good looks and good for impressing friends. ;) Doesn't really last long though. So if you're looking for a phone to keep for a year or two, I don't really recommend this, unless you don't mind a few buttons not working. Every two months, I have to send the phone back to the service center to get the keypad changed. I have done this 3 times already. The warranty period is for 1 year. The service center has advised me to get extended warranty for another year, which will cost me an additional US$21 (seems very reasonable). Since my daughter loves this phone so much, that could be the option for me. Now, I made some new friends at the service center and we meet once every two months. The camera is not excellent but then the phone is a walkman so it was not made for the camera. The speakers are good but if played too loud it can be quite a racket so it is best used with headphones. None of the keys have cracked or had any problems and i have a 2GB Memory stick so i have 230 songs on it with room for more. All in all a pretty good phone. But you can still use the buttons even when they're cracked. It isn't very strong, so try not to drop it...Learned that from experience. Unfortunatley for me, I got it stole when I was on Holiday in England (Yorkshire). Got another one on eBay then, and so far, I haven't had any problems. =] I love it, but I know a few people who have it, and they've had problems with theirs. It got this for christmas and now find 8 months down the line the speakers have totally gone wrong. I had the phone for 6 months and the speakers went really crispy sounding. Then it got worst and the sound disapeared and you could only hear if you were in a quite area and it was against ur ear. HOWEVER it works beautifully with its headphones. I wouldn't reckonment this handset to any friends unless they were extra careful with there fones. However the handset I have got has not yet got cracked or broken buttons. the only gd thing about the phone is that you can apply more mermory to the phone with a M2 card. Also the camera is ok and the video recording I also like the track ID. This phone isn't for anyone looking for a music player or a phone that breaks easily with too much love!! Rating: Reviewed by Rebecca on 04/08/2008 i love this phone i think it is very good i love about it : you put your own music on it, and can shake to change track (only thing is u have to have the music on your documents you can't put them on straight from itunes) it has cool games it looks really good has lighting charges fast has good apps and games has fab photo/video editing things step count calorie counter bad points : keys sometimes pop out of place but only when ive been using them for too long playing games camera on normal mode doesn't have zoom only on video camera doesn't have a flash you have to set up stuff for picture messages and mine doesn't work i think this is only as i am playing games 24/7, the battery doesn't last very long. i charged it on friday morning it needed charging again by sunday afternoon so if your looking for a phone specifically for battery life don't choose this one apart from that it is soooooo good and is good for sport training etc. oh and lighting effects are good love me xxxxx Rating: Reviewed by Jenni on 03/08/2008 I have had this phone for nearly a month now and so far i am really impressed with it some people are saying how bad it is and complaining about keys cracking but i think thats to people being to rough with it i sent hundreds of texts a month and have had on problem so far but i suppose i will have to wait and see. it is pretty easy to use and you can get osme great thenes for it. i definetaly recommend it Rating: Reviewed by lid on 03/08/2008 ive bought this fone 3 times... and only once the buttons cracked and the shop refused to replace it. overall its a great phone. (y) Rating: Reviewed by Katie on 02/08/2008 after 2 weeks of buying this phone all my keys had spilt in half and the slide broke. i took it back and got a new one as it was a fault 3 weeks after having this new phone i noticed a small crack in the corner which has now developed to a full blown black crack over the whole of my screen if ur clever and dont want to waste ur money do not buy this phone!!!!!!!!!! Rating: Reviewed by Kit on 02/08/2008 I would definitely stay away from this phone. I had the choice of the K800i or the W580i and I would definitely choose the K800i. I even has a better camera with flash. Anyway, I have had this phone since October (9 months) and I have only been able to use it for 6 of those months in total. That's because around every 3 months it decides to break. The first time the slider randomly stopped working, I had no access to the top row of phone keys, and the top half was at a 45 degree angle to the main body of the phone. So I had to send it in to Sony Ericsson (because Carphone Warehouse's 1 month limited warranty SUCKS) for repairs. They took 1 month. 1 whole months of coping with a really rubbish Motorola L6. (shudder) The second time, I was listening to music, and the speaker randomly stopped working. I didn't know when I was getting an incoming call, I couldn't even hear battery low sounds. Once again, a month of Motorola L6. The third time (2 weeks ago), I had recorded some video of the last day of school to put on my YouTube account. So I plugged it in my computer to upload them, I pressed File Transfer mode, and the phone DIED! It wouldn't do anything apart from show the really pretty (but ultimately useless) side lights. I decided to unplug it and try rebooting it. All I got was the flashing red light from under the "c" key. That means the phone committed suicide. Once again, I am coping with the rubbish L6 by Motorola. Buy it now if you enjoy limited storage space, rubbish speakers and a unusable camera! But that's for another review. I mean the Nokia (brick) phone from ages ago didn't even have colour and that was better than this, it never went blank or the keys didn't crack. I got the phone for christmas and within 5 weeks my number 2 key had already cracked, so had to get it repaired. Then in March my phone kept saying insert memory card and another key cracked. Then in May the LCD in my screen went that cost me £19.95 and now the screens going again but this time it just goes blank but the light in my keys still show but i can't see anything. I really do regret getting this phone because its the worst phone i've ever had and in the time I've had it, its probably been away getting repaired more than I've had it. I love Sony Ericsson phones but this phone is very disappointing. I'd say don't get it to anyone in the right mind who's actually thinking about getting it. Please recommend a really good phone because I need a new one. But Sony Ericsson won't let me have one will they. Having read through the reviews there are three major errors with this phone, one irritation and one thing that seems to work with everyone else and not for me. One of my keys has cracked, the screen froze so I had to take it back to be repaired and now its saying the memory card won't work, it keeps saying there isnt one in there. In my opinion the fone is great. Just a few minor details. 1) There should be a setting where you can turn the lights off all together to save battery life. 2) I Know i said the buttons dont crack for me yet, but i am finding it harder to text. The buttons should be more firm. All in all good phone, just sony need to work on it alittle. Peace. Firstly my keys started to crack then the microphone was loose and then the lights decided to play up. we sent the phone back to Sony ericsson loads of times but they didnt seem to fix the problem. everytime my phone came back it was still broken. they dont even replace faulty phones with brand new ones. they keep trying to give me a refurbished phone but last time they did that that phone was faulty to. my advice never buy a phone from sony ericsson or orange. neither of the companies care about their customers. The staff at both orange and sony ericsson are also very rude. why should they be rude to us when we are within our rights to want a new phone?! we have wasted a lot of money on this phone and are not impressed. i was told by a memebr of staff in orange that this phone was faulty and it had a fault that Sony ericsson were aware of but hadnt bothered to fix. i know many people who have had this phone and have nothing but problems to. it is APALLING!!! I know it slides out on its own when you remove the battery, however, you need to push it right in until it clicks. Trust me these new stylish slide phones from Sony are not reliable look the part but dont act it. i sugest you stick to the traditional non slide versions of sony as they can have a right bashing and still work.
