Reviewed by Jeff on 18/03/2010This is the third SE Phone i have owned over the years, and when i 'upgraded' (or at least i thought i did!) from my W200i (which i smashed to bits in a fit of frustration after 1yr of ownership,coz it kept shutting down in the middle of something important like typing a reeeeeeeaaaaally long and important message when browsing the net...but that's a whole other story lol,) to this phone (W395) i was HUUUUGELY disappointed...coz for every new feature this gave me over the W200, i lost like 3 others! this phone has a bigger, clearer TFT screen, bluetooth and supports opera mini 5 (unlike the w200), and the sound quality is excellent and almost twice as loud, and with a walkman upgrade to 2.0, but wierdly it lacks Megabass and comes with a lower grade of headphones... which i had to scrap for a different set after a couple of days coz they kept falling out of my ears every 3 steps! Also, i had loads of custom themes on my W200i...but this phone doesn't support any for m of customization! you're stuck with the default themes for life! All you can change is your wallpapers! :p. Now, here's the worst part; this phone hangs at EVERY opportunity it gets...and sony Ericsson's solution? take out the battery for 30 seconds...WTH??? Am i going to keep doing that all day??? Also, browsing through files is slow, and jerky! I feel really let down by Sony ericsson... considering the difference in price between these two phones, i feel like i got FAR less than makes sense! It looks awesome and i cannot stop admiring it's design, and the stereo speakers are to die for! but this just feels like an overly expensive music player wrapped in a most-beautiful shell, that just happens to make the occasional call or two....Absolutely NO thought went into designing its soul....oh, and the 0.3mp camera on my older phone could literally dance rings around what they labelled as "2mp" on this! You'd rather just save up and by a more expensive SE...cheap really is expensive....!!! Rating: Reviewed by sachin kumar on 14/03/2010 I could see only problems in this phone 1) software problem a) When you are on a call , it disconnects the call and you will just all the colors on the phone (RGB- similar to a Color Television with no cable connection) b)some time you can't make any call. Solution: You need to reboot. This happens at least twice a day. c)Hands-free: 4 in 10 times, you can't pick a call when you are using radio. 2) Camera is not good. 3) Battery life is really bad. I need to recharge this phone every day and I hardly use this phone (max 20 mins a day). Good things. Music quality is good. Appearance is good. If you are used to Nokia phones, please NEVER go for this phone. If you really want to listen to good music, buy a good mp3/music player. She claimed reception on it was poor although I haven't had same probs. Screen is poor, you can hardly make out the time, cam is poor for 2mp. Does feel sturdy and solid though and yeh music is pretty loud and titanium looks good. Wouldn't keep it as a full time phone, as an emergency spare it does the job. It has a really bad message memoryyy aswell you can only hold about 40 messages. It is not a strong phone and cracks very easilyy. Internet is very slow !! And its quite confusing to get to your photos and music. I can not standthe way themusicplayer is set out. When I ringsomeone itmakeshorrble cracing noises. Had the phone replaced, the new ones even worse! same problems, more frequently. Definitely one to avoid! Rating: Reviewed by mr t on 08/02/2010 my advice is dont but this phone, I am on my econd one now in 2 months , it keeps crashing when poeple phone me , when i try and make a phone call and when i try to listen to the walkman guess what it crashes . i really am dissapointed with this phone Rating: Reviewed by Oliver on 06/02/2010 To be honest i think some people have reviewed some really small aspects of the phone and id like to say the music system on this is really good and that i listen to it every morning when i get on the bus,it has bluetooth, memory card port and so on it can play videos it can view pictures it can take pictures, ive read below that you cant get it working with pc suite, to be clear that is never a BIG deal as windows media player and you could even go into your computer area on windows to put files onto the phone. it came with a 1gb m2 memory card which is great and i couldnt ask for anything better. themes are also not a massive issue because you get 6 of them on the phone already which are completely fine. Rating: Reviewed by Cliff on 05/02/2010 I dont think the review is fair, it has a limited internal memory, sure, but it has an M2 slot and comes bundled with a 1gig card and if you need more room, you can get a 2gig or larger card. The main downside to this phone appears to be the lack of room for sms messages and no connectivity to PC software, but at the end of the day its a cheap phone, if it did everything perfectly there would be no point in buying a phone thats 4x as much. I bought this phone as a cheap replacement for a lost W980 until my contract renews and I can get a free handset and considering the large price difference in the W980 and the 395, I think its a very reasonable phone. The keypad easy to text with but as long as you take care of the keypad it shouldnt crack ive had mine 4 month and its in the same condition i got it. Since I got this phone in Oct its never worked properly. Device isn't recognised on computer no matter what I do. I'm fed up with SE's customer support - erm sorry that should be LACK of support. Texting is slowish. Other than that I like the phone - its loud enough for me to hear. Camera is OK for emergencies, slider doesn't wobble and suits my other purposes. Just wish the damn thing would download. While playing music it stops working and restarts again. Camera quality is not good if you see picuture on the mobile only ( its good on PC), no zoom is availabe neither at the time of taking picture nor at the time of viewing it. Ultimately its good for music lovers as it comes with inbuilt preset equalize which can me manualy equalized for best quality sound. For those who love photography should not go for it, music love may like to proceed. I also feel this phone is not worth the price. Even though camera is 2.0MP, the pictures and videos taken are not so good. The screen resolution is 176x220. At some regions in the screen we feel the colours are inadequate. If we view a 176x220 wallpaper showing a moonlit sky, it looks like some parts of the sky are faded. It's not so good to see pictures. But video quality is alright for a 176x220 screen. And finally when it comes to sound, this phone is awesome. But the headset that comes with the phone is inadequate. I haven't tried with a better headset yet. I have not felt any problems yet with the Walkman freezing up. But we can't launch the Walkman while using any Applications. In my older W300i I could do it and so I felt this phone would be much more advanced in every sense but I was disappointed. We can open any Application when the Walkman is running and minimized, but if we want to stop the music, we have to exit the application. Also, we can't minimize Appliations. The Motion Gaming feature is not what we think like, better use the keypad for gaming. To be frank, the only positive for this phone is the sound quality. You might have to get a better headset to handle all that power. Also, it won't support WMA tracks (though I've had no problem with MP3's). So if it's a music machine you want, this isn't the best phone. However as a phone it's pretty good, nice and small, with a loud ringtone and pretty cheap at £48 for a pay as you go, with 1GB memory card. When I bought this I expected it to be a phone that could make calls, send text messages, use silly MP3s as ringtones and not accidentally call 999 when in my pocket (hence the slider option). It has not disappointed me. I must be lucky to have a phone that isn't buggy, for as I paid just £45 my expectations are not too high. After all if I wanted a phone with applications, Monkey Island, themes, a thousand MP camera and a dishwasher I would buy a more expensive phone. Also as I have always been skint I have always been accustomed to cheaper phones so having a camera with MPs on is quite nice. Sure it could be better but I didn't buy an iPone. Besides I have a really good camera I rarely use and an archos so I didn't buy this for the extras. People must understand they get what they pay for and it's not going to be the sup ermegamatronmeister 5000 which also transforms into a vacumn cleaner, it's a bog-standard communications device. As for the themes, who cares! Upload a picture and stick it on the background! I had no trouble putting anything on my phone after downloading the free software on the website (oh yes, thank you Sony Ericsson for making it free as in the past I was always told by other companies I had to pay for it). It's a basic phone. I got what I paid for. I didn't expect much at all. You need to pay £80+ if you want tinsel as well. I've had a SE phone before and once I get the funds I will happily get a better one. Not recommended for people who have high expectations and are too easily disappointed. This is good for younger teenagers, people who need a second phone who don't mind it if it falls into the toilet and a temporary phone for whatever reason. Better go for some other model Rating: Reviewed by uuygku on 22/12/2009 i have got the w395 for christmas and it is not the worst phone ive had over the years... its slow and freezes at times if you have a lot of things on it such as songs or videos. but this however is not the worst thing about the phone,its a fact that it does not w.m.a tracks. so if you have songs thhat are fom a c.d and are relying on your mobile phone to play them, i really suggest another phone.... however it is hard to break and the speakers on the phone are louder than most phones. there are alot of phones out there that are a lot better then this one but for a buget phone it is very good. Rating: Reviewed by liz on 20/12/2009 many people say this phone is brilliant others say it is rubbish not many say anything in between. many people complain many things however not all are true... 1. the camera having burst setting where it takes several pics at once - you can turn this off!!! 2. sound not loud enough - i would say its too loud! the sound is perfectly loud enough 3. it doesn't play wma's - download some free software from the internet that converts them, simple and easy! 4. it breaks when wet - don't most electrical things?!! there are many other complaints that really aren't realistic. my view on this phone is that its brilliant for the price i bought it (£48) however it does freeze occasionally (sorted by taking the batery out and putting it in again) and you cant do absaloutly everything you can do with other phones. but overall i think this is a good by if you get it at the right price. Rating: Reviewed by maneesh india on 20/12/2009 useless phone. waste of money . c510 is better option. signals automatically disappeared many times. themes could not be added. no disc with it for drivers. till now m unable to connect it to use internet thrn.ough p.c. 2 months old set and handsfree is not working properly. many application software like e-buddy. mig-33 are not compatible with it and no service centre of s.e.. the closest is in 200k.m. distance.
