Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by 5threeone on 07/06/2008 I had a 910 for two years. Splendid phone. Then I was tempted to a 990. Mistake! The 910 is a better phone to use in so many ways. Far better keyboard action. Bigger screen which gives one a more visual virtual qwerty keyboard. I think its a bit more robust too. So after 8 months with the 990 I have taken the 910 out of the box and put the 990 on EBay. Sound plays perfectly, memory wasn't great but i updated it with a 1mb memory card and alls fine now ^_^ great phone in general; however if you like your camera features, the phone is awful. 0.2 megapixels. My last phone (sony ericsson w850?) was 10 x better than this with 2 megapixels. My touchscreen on the p910i has recently stopped working too; looked up the problem and it looks like a common problem relating to the actual screen hardware, which has to be repaired -_- My tip: go for this phone for the business side & it's programs - but if you're like me, a teenager looking for a cool phone - then don't go near the PDAs. Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Doodzy on 01/04/2008 Loving it! The only few problems is that is almost needs to have everything it came originally with; such as the demo game, cd software, cables etc etc...otherwise most of the functions arent full accesible( i got mine 2nd hand :P) erm, the camera isnt really worth using most of the time, and mms is tough to get going. The fact it can support so much space is brilliant tho, so overall, i'll give it 4 stars. Well, I've been tinkering one given to me by a friend (duh..how do use this or this or that...duh..) Trying to use and understand this phone is like trying to use Lotus Smart software - ie very un-user friendly but packed with features if you want 'em (sorry Sony..) The whole desktop thingy has only a few buttons, which means ya gotta burn trails to get to a certain item youse want - and at times, youse gonna get lost in a maze worse off than Zathura. Even for an advanced IT admin personel, some things don't make much sense. Problems with software hang-ups..? Very few on the set I had. Perhaps some form of QC failure..? Bluetooth has some snags, and by comparison to the SE W550i, pales in comparison, but that's splitting hairs. Besides, the W550i isn't smart enough and has the same finicky UI - as with all SE. Anyway, the phone is a really good phone and I would say is slightly better than the P900, but not a wanting item for an upgrade. I've lived with the Motorola 780A and will give the SEP910i a thought - it'l be a great challenge...! Someone said it resembles a Volvo 760GL, how true...! It'll keep going on and on and on...no frills, no thrills, no flashy motto - but one damn tough tank. Heck, it'll kill a dog faster than any phone I've seen thrown at a dog...! So, if you've mastered the Microsoft Outlook, go nuts with the Lotus Notes - IF YOU DARE TREAD DARK WATERS... The P910i is the best phone i've ever used, and ouzes class. The 5 way jogdial is great. The screen is colorful and UIQ is functional. Call volume is very good. If you can pick up a second hand one of these, do it. You will not regret it. It is superior to the P990i in every way. The P910i is an iconic phone. Agreed the camera is not brilliant - I have a camera for that! There are only 2 glitches 1. linking with a Mac is only via Bluetooth (much more can be done with the docking station on a PC, and 2. when synching with iCal make sure that recuring dates are switched off because it will lock up when calculating dates ad-infinitum. Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Chrup on 17/03/2007 I have had this PDA phone for over a year now. It is the best phone I ever had. I don't agree with "total waste of money" as this phone's primary function is to be a phone (hence its name) and not to be a camera, movie player or Walkman/iPod. What bugs me a bit though is its speed. The wordprocessor/spreadsheet/presentation applications are about useless, more or less as useless as their counterparts on PocketPC devices. I tried to view a 50-page PDF file once and the device choked on that - switch off/on resolved the issue, but I didn't attempt that again. Also, what use is a 208x320 screen for files that are best viewed on 8x11" or A4 paper? As a phone, alarm clock, appointment calendar, address book and such, it's great. I'd like to have WiFi on it and I'd also like to have Skype make a client for Symbian OS, but neither is going to happen (Skype & WiFi = free phone). Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by pacy4 on 13/03/2007 I own P910i form two months. There are so many things to like about this phone and a few to dislike. I bought it second hand with visible traces of usage, but in good technical condition. Battery life seems fine to me- up to three days with intensive use in flip open mode, and one hour a day usage like mp3 player. The processor is powerful enough to handle (and loads quickly) all the applications, except the unability to render video files with decent quality. Symbian 7,0 and build in apps never crashed in my hands and never stuck, so there wasn’t any need to restart my phone. I like the huge easy to use touch-screen, which is bigger and better than most of 320x240 new phones, despite the 320x208 resolution. Great phone to browse the net- Opera browser is awesome. Build in e-mail client works fine and is very useful. It is very handy to work with texts. There are a lot of programs wrote for this phone, so you can fine almost everything. I use dictionary(eMO Dict Deluxe), ICQ client (Jimm), few extra games , book reader (ReadM), file manager and task manager (SMan), Opera browser. All of the apps I mention are freeware. It is strongly recommended to use SMan to control running processes and memory usage. In flip closed mode the screen is well protected and the phone is easy to use for calls and messages. The QWERTY keypad looks too small, but I used to it and now I’m typing faster than on the standard phone keypad. My phone render 4GB memory stick card which is great, but there are some limitations. I can’t see it trough pc suite. If I full the card more than 58% appears “corrupt files”. Anyway the card is usable, and allows me to use my phone like an mp3 player with decent quality. The sound of the included handsfree isn’t bed at all. The things I don’t like: Missing software updates form Sony-Ericsson for more than 1-2GB memory stick cards support. The 32-bit processor of P910i theoretically and practically can address to at most exactly 4GB. It is a pity not to write update to do that without any “corrupt files” problems. There isn’t an update for PC suite to recognize such cards either. The PC>phone file transfer is damn slow. You should use a card reader. I had such PC connectivity problems before. PC suite software is a disaster. Phone can’t play any good quality video no mater which program I use to convert it (“Super” is freeware). It seems the processor speed isn’t enough to play good videos. The phone build in camera, despite the bad resolution (VGA) is very low quality. For me it’s unusable nor to take pictures, nor a video. Missing WLAN(Wi-Hi). My conclusion- I love this phone, it gives me everything I need- book reader, 2-4GB mp3 player, dictionary, net browser, ICQ client, pope-mail, good for smatphone battery life. It has totally suppassed my expectations. Ive had it about 1year (16months) now and its never let me down, OK so it has crashed before, but then I do give it a bit of a thrashing sometimes, im sure XP would have crashed too. Ive put all sorts of software on it, from Golf to GPS-Navigator. I think the best feature about this phone is you have the choice to use it as a standard mobile with the flap up, or you can try to take over space stations with it open, people are still amased by me handwriting txt's or playing chess/golf on the train. Ohh the video is quite good, usefull if you miss your girlfriend. Downside well maybe battery life, if your on the phone and playing all day its only going to last 8-9hours, but hey if your that bothered get a backup battery, Im quite happy to charge most nights. size isnt an issue, its smaller and better than some laptops !! Its quite happily taken some bashes too. Go on get it... all its missing is wifi access for free surfing, but it may even have it, I cant be bothered to read the manual, if you are slightly nerdy you will figure it out anyway Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Jamie on 26-11-2005 I switched from Nokia because I was sick of the constant bugs I experienced when I bought their phones. After 2 weeks I love this phone and functionality, but there are two issues. 1. The display has already scratched significantly from stylus wear and I am quite concerned that if this is 2 weeks use, what can I expect after 6 months! Reminds me of the iPod issue. 2. The display limits viewing of the OEM supplied Quickword documents and Quicksheet spreadsheets. It would be nice if the software could rotate them because I could view more cells on the spreadsheet. Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Noor, UK on 10-11-2005 I have used several mobile phone, almost a new one every year. I decided to buy the so called mobile/PDA and I went for this phone (P 910i). The only good feature about it is it looks good, everything else is not worthwhile the money or publicity. These are the poor features: 1) Battery does not last long. 2) The phone freezes very frequently. And, Sony tech support does not want to know about it. They suggested to take the battery out every time it freezes. Ended up with battery out of phone more than it is in. 3) Very poor Tech support: I complained bitterly to Sony Erickson. They suggested to send it back to them (within 2 days after I bought the phone), at my own cost and no replacement. Unbelievable! 4) Website is even less helpful. 5) Poor reception and freezing. If the reception was poor (which was common compared to my wife?s simple Motorola phone) the 910i just freezes, again, the battery had to come out, switch it on again, really vicious circle. 6) Do you want more.....sincere advice, DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE PS THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RATING OF ZERO (NOT 1) TO ASSIGN TO THE P910i. Rating: ![]() Reviewed by Android on 19-08-2005 I have my P910i for about 4 months and it is excellent. I've seen a lot of poor reviews for this phone which are unjustified. Ok it's starting to get a bit dated but it's availble at a good price. The camera is a VGA so if you're looking for camera then the P910i isn't for you. If you want the best phone/PDA availble then here it is. I used to have a windows PDA and carry a phone as well but this phone does both equally as well if not better and with the two combined picking up emails is a doddle. It you're thinking about this phone then buy one: you won't regret it. Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Chris S on 13-08-2005 Don't know which phones your 1 star reviewers have bought coz it certainly isn't the same as mine! I must be like millions worldwide, I run a business operating Outlook 2003 and I wanted a combined 'phone and PDA which wasn't the size of a brick to avoid carrying around 2 gizzmos at once, but to have office appointments, contacts, word and excell docs with me away from work. This the P910i does superbly. Speed? How many times have you reinstalled your laptop once its crawled to a halt with dodgy software? I reckon a lot of the complaints are from people filling their P910i up with crud 3rd party Symbian progs to try to take advantage of its extraordinary potential. That or they're intellectually challenged; if you can't understand the comprehensive instruction book, buy a base Nokia. Reliability? Well it has a Sony guarentee - no probs with mine. Its hung a couple of times on certain tracks on the excellent mp3 player (the one on my GX30 never worked properly) but I think that was due to bit rates rather than the 'phone. With this one and a 1GB card you can chuck away your iPod. Anyway which other 'phones have the potential to play complete widescreen movies with an add on piece of software? Cost? My Voda shop gave me it free as an upgrade and a SIM card for the old 'phone also free! Big thumbs? It comes with a screwdriver and blank to take off the flip down key board. With a virtual keyboard, predictive text, QWERTY board and handwriting recognition just how many ways do you want to input data (as well as USB/Ir/Bluetooth). Battery life? Is charging every 2 days such a hassle? In any case you can customise the large screen to cut down power consumption. Why only 4 stars? It really ought to have a mega pixel camera and flashlight and its still on the large side to carry around especially with the bulky case supplied. Watch this space for the next model. The QWERTY concept needs to be imporved to a more Ergonomical way, as keypads are too tiny to text or write messages in an instant. Internet capability and speed is fair enough, but I must say that the colors and graphics and the physical design of this phone is "business-like".
