Since i have had this phone i have had nothing but problems with it. Firstly the touch screen buttons stopped working, and the menu key was stuck so continuously kept selecting itself. it always freezes and the screen goes black, the buttons light up and the phone vibrates. I had it sent off for repair. It was fine for about a month, but recently it has started freezing again. Its so annoying when you are in mid phone call! Which is when it happens most. Its also rubbish for taking pictures in the dark, although my friend has the same phone and his is fine??? :S Also the camera would always come on when it was in my pocket. Its been more trouble than its worth. I would not recommend this phone.

absolutely hate this phone. I am onto my third in a year and am counting down until my contract ends and can change the phone. Problems include constant hanging. I consider it amazing when I dial a number these days and the phone actually rings. The buttons are awful for texting. Half the time the facility for answering with speakerphone doesn't work. The phone very often Switches off mid conversation for no apparent reason. I am at a loss to understand how anyone can be impressed with the camera as so far I have been underwhelmed with the quality of photos. I would not recommend this phone to my worst enemy, or actually maybe I should!!!!

I upgraded from K800i to K850i and I think it is rubbish. Can I trust SonyEricsson anymore? You killed my joy! I love your product but now...I am weary of it!

I have just returned my second one of these to Three, both of them having gone faulty. Yhe first one stopped working, and prior to that it was freezing regularly (something which Three stated was a known issue with software and not a fault) and the second one decided to become possessed. It is being replaced with a different model now, as the only thing that I could be sure of with the K850i is that it will go faulty.

Terrible phone, countless problems from it crashing and restarting, having to send it back twice due to it not being able to send/receive text messages. Now finally after 10 months it just does not switch on and instead freezes with the lights on! The bad keypad is something I have got used to, the camera however is useless and again too slow switching between modes.

I used this phone for a couple of months and there are a few things that I have to comment on. This was my first sony ericsson the buttons are pointlessly small and it was very irritating. the D-pad in between the keys is the reason for this and this is also very irritating. i don't mind the touch buttons though, but whenever any of my friends try to use it they get exited, then disappointed thinking it was touchscreen (the touch buttons are just the small area between the silver buttons and screen, not an area at the bottom of the screen as the manual claims. it's a magnet for fingerprints. if you put any finger behind the phone when using the camera it will confuse the sensor and mismatch the flash to the exposuer and you get a black picture. dispite this the picture quality is excellent, and i'd recommend it as a camera. it's still a big heavy brick for this day and age. sony ericsson's PC software is very low quality, thankfully you can ignore the software and use it as a USB mass storage device, but i didn't work this out until i'd already installed its required quicktime (which i hate and you can never completely remove) PS. where's this second front facing camera that the review says can be used for video calling? i never saw that.

Neither handset has ever had rough treatment or been dropped etc. Both were from O2, who have been fine about replacing the faulty goods, but I wont be buying another Sony Ericsson after this. Its a shame because when they work thy're great phones with useful features & powerful cameras, its just a pity the build quality cannot support them.

The buttons do take some getting used to but after a few days its fine, and i love the movement sensor for playing games. A really great phone! Honestly cant understand the bad reviews can only gather that the customers who are happy with their k850i's never bother to write reviews!

I have had this phone about 3 months now ... I don't think the touch keys are a problem ... after some time they become very nice to use... also the camera is great .... I have two concerns about this phone ... first being when in a call your cheek presses the touch buttons and you end up saving loads of texts in drafts and so on. Not sure if this can be stopped from happening. The second thing is, after 3 months of not over using the phone the green metallic paint and silver call buttons' paint is begining to chip off. Surely this isnt ment to happen on such a new phone. On the whole a very goood phone :)

I've been a Sony Ericsson fan for many, many years, but this model is the second disappointing SE phone on the bounce (w880i being my prior phone). Firstly, the 'touch screen' - the 3 buttons on the bottom of the screen are in theory a good idea, but these are poorly executed. From day 1 I found the buttons unresponsive. And this seems to permeate through the entire keypad - I have lost track of the number of times when I've been unable to unlock my phone becuase it has decided not to work. But there are bigger bugs than this. It shuts down when writing texts or when on the internet. When doing so one of 3 things can happen. It can either reboot completely, switch off, or 'die' for several minutes and refuse to turn on. The camera, which seems to have universally been panned, is poor. When it works, photo and image quality is very high. But the flash seems ill-aligned to the shutter, so you will regularly get blank photos. But, to top this all off, three days ago it gave up the ghost completely... after 8 months. The problem? The key bad / touch screen. It has decided to continually select the middle touch screen button so when unlocked the result will look something like this... Menu - Messages - Write New - Continue - Select Number - *first name in phone book* - Send Message.... Message sent. My phone sent 20 blank messages to Aaron before I new what had happened. And to top it off, when going into my local phone store, I was told 'off the record' that this is a common problem with this phone and it was the THIRD phone THAT DAY to be returned. All in all a highly disppointing phone. The photos can be good, the idea and the theory behind the phone was good, but the execution was incredibly poor.

However the battery on mine is awfull if i use it for an average amount of time i reckon i get a day of a full charge which is no where near as good as the others in the range plus i would say 20 percent of the time when i try and call i get no connection no dial tone no nothing i don't know wheather this is just my little baby or a commen fault but alas 4/5

Unfortunately i am with Vodafone, and there policy is to send the phone back for repair 3 times before you get a replacement, (the same handset). Now i cannot even get into the phone, as the touch screen does not work. When the phone works its brilliant, good for music and an excellent camera phone, but the problems make it a phone that should not be recommended. Indeed, Vodafone are not promoting this phone anymore which tells you something about its quality. Do not get one of these phones, as they are rubbish.

I've had this phone for 4 months. I have to say although I am myself not a fan of touch screen I did learn to like it on the k850i. I didn't of course realise it was a touch screen when I first upgraded online so it took a good 5 mins to work out how to press the buttons! I agree many of my photos came out black but I learnt to get around it-avoid reflective surfaces, hold hands at very corners of phone etc etc. Unfortunately my problem is that whilst I do really like the phone....It has broken TWICE!! And by broken I mean I can see it's on, the buttons light up but the screen is black. This happened first 2 months after I got it and another 2 months later it's happened again. For this reason I have now changed to the C902 and wait to see what this one is like. Although I did like the phone i cannot recommend it due to the constant problems. If it works for you then the phone is great- for me it didn't. ***And you get used to the keypad just have to try hard not to have 'fat fingers'.

I've sent it back for repair three times now, once when I could only hear callers through the loudspeaker, and twice for the touch keys freezing up and requiring a restart. I've also had plenty of random restarting and the camera related blue lights deciding they want to stay on when the camera is switched off. And now the background panel on my keypad is lifting. Prior to this the camera was superb apart from the occasional black photo, however in the weeks running up to the touch screen going wrong the camera would freeze and I would have to remove the phone battery in order to get it working again. The worst thing is when you try to get into your text inbox and the error message comes up. No matter what you do it won't let you in until you have reset the phone, and then you lose all your messages. Oh, and software updates DON'T help! (tried it 3 times!) I've been really disappointed with this SE. I converted from Nokia when the K750i came out a few years back and loved that phone, however since then it's all gone down hill. This is my very first Sony Ericsson as I have only ever had Samsungs (they are amazing phones). I have had this phone for less than and day and am well accustomed with the phone. I haven't had any problems with it yet and think it's really good. I used to have the Samsung G600 and would still totally recommend it to everyone. I did consider going back to it but thought i should give this Sony Ericsson a try. Everything is in working order and looks very nice. The touchscreen functions are very good and the layout and technicality of the phone is really good too. The phone did appear as a bit of a brick to me but I've gotten used to the size and weight. Another slight problem, which has been outlined by many other reviewers, is the camera. When i use it, there have been dark pictures as the outcome but often they are excellent quality pictures. To prevent the dark pictures, I find that putting the White balance setting onto incandescent and turning the flash off, and when you are pressing the button, use the touch screen button and press it once, so that it focuses. I'm not sure if this will work for everyone, but I have used it since i figured it out, and it has proved worthy for me. I hope this helps for anyone with the same troubles. Don't back away from this phone because of the camera issuses. It can be sorted =D. Therefore, this phone is brilliant, just underrated so I think it deserves 5-stars.

Great Camera - shame about the phone. I have had not, not two, not three even, but FOUR Sony Ericsson K850i handsets, which have all pretty much been a total NIGHTMARE from start to finish. As the main review says, on paper, this phone is amazing: The camera, takes better pictures than my digital compact (hey, it's an oldie!), it has super-fast hspda, with which you can literally motor through the internet, excellent battery life than laughs in the face of other phones, handy applications like track-id, which renders premium services like Shazam totally useless. "Fantastic!" I hear you cry. However, throw in the touch-screen of uselessness, (stops working/works in reverse/operates when you aren't even anywhere near the phone), add a dash of disappearing menu and cover liberally with some "crash every time anyone rings you or texts you", and you have a very shiny, pretty doorstop. The response from Sony Ericsson has been, tryupdating the software...great...only I've had this phone since November 2007, and there hasn't been the faintest whiff of one, and what with a new range of cyber-shot branded phones having been released a few months ago, it looks doubtful that there will be one. So to summarise in one word: AVOID.

I have had this phone for a week and a half on upgrade from Orange, having previously owned a Sony Ericsson K800i. In all I do think it is a really good phone in many respects but I do have a few gripes with it too. I don't think I will ever find a phone that is 100% perfect though so I'm still trying to get to grips with this! My biggest priority was a 5 mega pixel phone. I would have upgraded to the new Sony Ericsson but it's ugly, & the Nokia & Samsung 5 mega pixel phones are bricks. So I thought I would go for this as it looks really good, as good as the iPhone looks and I have heard that the camera and internet connectivity on that are pants! I am disappointed though that the quality of the photos doesn't seem as good as my 3.2 mega pixel K800i. Maybe this could be because it has more advanced features & I just haven't got to grips with it properly yet. But unfortunately it switches back to the default settings as soon as you have finished taking pics & therefo re there is no taking advantage of photo opportunities at the drop of a hat without each time fiddling with the settings first. It is also disappointing that there is no lens cover & the lens gets covered in fingerprints when using the jog wheel! The video camera seems really good though. I have noticed other comments from earlier reviews stating that when they have uploaded photos on the computer & compared them with photos from their previous phone they have found them to not be as high in quality. I haven't been able to check this out for myself as my Adobe Photoshop won't find photos from this new phone for some reason! However, the software supplied with the phone seems more user friendly than the Sony Ericsson software. As a serial texter, my biggest issues are that once you enter a recipient, there seems to be no option to edit or delete the recipeint if you have entered the wrong one. Instead you have to delete your message and start again! Also there is no option to copy text & paste into a new message. You can copy & paste but only within the same message. Also there are no emoticons which I find really strange! On the po
