Reviewed by Dan on 06/03/2010 I have owned the K750i, K800i, K850i and the W960i. Out of all of them, i would say this one was the best! People obviosuly have no idea how to position their hands so they don't block the flash when taking photos. Nor do they know how to set the camera up by the sound of it! THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAMERA, IT'S THE USER AT FAULT! My phone was very slow, although this was somewhat rectified with a firmware update. Although as my phone was branded to Vodafone (haha) the problem lay with THEIR firmware and not sony ericssons. People who moan about the keys being too small? Go on diet, I can manage! Theyre actually the easiest keys to use on any phone I've EVER had (up to this point where I've a QWERTY keypad on my phone). The 3G speed if you're on the right network (I'm with 3) can download a 9MB MP3 faster than what my ADSL connection can at home! Ignore what all these idiots say about the camera, it's nothing to do with the phone, just idiots that didnt want to take a few days to learn how to use it! If you're going to buy this phone, don't hold back! I promise you won't regret it! Rating:

Reviewed by clegg on 18/02/2010 i got this phone a long time ago and was checking what the review of it was. i have ever ONCE had a problem with the camera and i have taken over 500 photos and videos using up all my memory. The keypad is fine once you get used to it. the 3 touch buttons at the bottom of screen are great if your like me and dont like touch phones. the 3g is good as you would expect. my only fault is it is heavy and large which i dont mind cz it feels solid but it can feel heavy at times. hope i helped Rating:
Reviewed by Matt on 17/02/2010 I agree with others. The feel of this phone is pretty cheap and plasticky compared to past Ericssons. My main issue with it, is that it often randomly shuts down, and illuminates the keypad, and freezes. If I dont remove the battery within six seconds of it doing this, it erases ALL my sim data and my memory card data and reverts back to its 'out of the box' state! And on top of that, the signal reception strength is virtually non-existent. At my desk, in the middle of the city, it has one bar of reception signal, and often has no bars at all, and cant find the network. My friends have Nokias on the same network as me, and they have perfect signal strength. But my K850 struggles to get a signal. Its one of the worst phones I've ever owned, and I've had it for over two years now. Stay away from this one! Rating:

Reviewed by Brett on 10/02/2010 I used to love Sony Ericsson phones, and be a passionate supporter. But after 2 endlessly problematic phones - the K850i being the latest - I will never buy SE again. For specifics, read the reviews below - the Web is littered with complaints about these phones. Sony should stick to making cameras, and stop trying to make phones. Waste of money. Rating:

Reviewed by Yaz on 10/01/2010 I have never had a problem with the phone especially no problems at all with the camera. If anything the flash is too bright. However, as a media phone it performs way above the usual standards. I have had the phone for two years and have loved every minute of it. I really think these people with camera problems either dont know how to use the camera or the first catch released by sony had some faults. Over all it is a very good phone and the internet on it is extremely fast. I would recommend this phone to any one. Rating:
Reviewed by Kevin K on 05/01/2010 I've had this phone for nearly two years, during which time I've taken hundreds of pictures in a wide variety of situations. I've not had any problems with the camera at all. However, I have had problems with software latch-ups (keypad freezing)which sometimes needed a battery removal to fix. Also, the touch screen operating pressure is very variable and could be a bit better. The small keys could give many users problems but I've managed reasonably well. Rating:

Constantly crashes itself, turns off and on again, refuses to send/receive texts as well as calls at times, freezes for minutes on end. Myself and anyone I know who has this phone says exactly same thing when it's mentioned 'It's awful isn't it' Has raised my blood pressure tenfold. When working, a good phone but not worth the 90% of the time it's not working. Can't wait until contract's up and I can take a hammer to it.Seriously. Rating:

Reviewed by Sarah on 03/11/2009 I have purchased 2 Sony Ericsson K850i phones over the last year and a half. The first worked great for just about one year with the occasional freezing but a quick restart or removing and reinserting the battery would help. Then one morning, I tried to use my phone and the middle touch screen select wouldn't work. But if I touched anywhere around the keys i.e. the flat surface, it would register as the 'select' I didn't throw down the phone or anything. It just starting giving problems on it's own. It was repaired and quite costly I must add to repair it, but I decided to get a new one after this. My new K850i worked great for all of one month and then one random morning as I was in a call, the phone cut off on me and while it was attempting to reload, the phone froze while only the keypad and the ring around the camera was lighting. And it refused to start back working even after I turned off the phone and turned it back on many times and took out the battery and reinserted it. And the Update Software didn't even help. In total, the interface is so user friendly and the phone has an AMAZING camera! Totally better than the Nokia N95 so if you are a photo junkie, you'll fall in love with the camera quality and output but you'll only end up with a broken heart and your pockets empty. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE! Rating:

Reviewed by Tom on 22/08/2009 Ive had this phone for some months now, and overall, its a shocking bit of technology. The retards at Sony Ericsson need to get their act together and do something about the appallingly BUGGED SOFTWARE that makes it SHUT ITSELF DOWN! That particular problem gets progressively worse until mine was shutting itself off about every 30 seconds. You can download an update which sorts it for about 6 months, but then you have to update again. Oh and beware: if you ask this phone to do a number of tasks in quick succession, it will throw a tantrum, freeze and then NOT turn off when you ask. You have to remove the battery to make it work again. Forget the camera, it's terrible; if you want to take pictures and video, buy an ACTUAL camera. Other than those things, i love it. It's incredibly robust so you can drop it and it won't fall apart, the buttons actually make it easier to text and the square retical/keys are excellent. But honestly, BUY SOMETHING ELSE. There are much be tter devices out there. And you won't have to look hard to find one better than this piece of tripe. Rating:

Reviewed by Alex Canner on 06/08/2009 Myself and my wife decided to go on contract at the same time and decided also that we liked the same phone, so we BOTH opted for the k850i. Therefore I can say with certainty that...it’s an appalling phone. We've both had exactly the same problems, so not isolated incidents. The main problem is the phone's software. After 6 months of using it - it’s incredibly slow. I mean, at a standstill sometimes. We've moved all our media off it onto our home PC and it's still drags its heels. Of late, (16 months on), we've found that when we're on a call and the phone gets a text message (or visa-versa) at the same time, it turns itself off, vibrates, then turns itself back on. Then takes an age to get back to the status of being able to work in a normal way again. Occasionally it has a sulk and refuses to turn on at all for a good 15 mins and only after taking the batt and sim out, it gets off its backside and decides to do some work. Very frustrating if you desperately need to use it! The pics have been outstanding quality but, its lengthy to navigate around and find where they're saved etc. We were drawn in by its flashy looking touch screen stuff but it’s a gimmick. On balance, I'd rather have a phone that does the basics first like being able to talk and text, before taking pictures and fannying about with on-board games. Sorry but its poor! Summary is: good for the first 6 months, then it’s ready to be retired to that mobile phone recycling graveyard in the sky. And remember, we've both had EXACTLY the same problems! So it's a design fault. Rubbish! Rating:
Reviewed by David on 03/08/2009 This is just the worst phone I have ever had. I will never go SE again. It has a mind of its own and is completely unreliable and dysfunctional.I cant even send a text using this phone as it starts opening folders as soon as I try and type in Hi to whoever I am trying to text. I downloaded latest software in case that was the problem with that and 20 minutes later it was exactly the same. Same problem unable to use any feature on the phone. It certainly has the right name on the camera CYBER well I would call it HYPER as it automatically chooses to do 10 seperate functions as soon as I turn the phone on and even touch it.Didnt even get to try camera out as i could see that camera buttons are way too small for a grown adult like me to use with adult size fingers. The phone appears to freeze in between its fits and my opinion to whoever designed this rubbish phone must have had a brain freeze whilst developing it. SE are not interested in refunding my money so I will t hrow the phone away in the bin and go and buy a nokia! Rating:
Reviewed by Barry Badrinath on 28/07/2009 Fantastic camera in daylight, as good as any digital camera. Horrifically overexposed photos at night, especially out partying, which to be honest is where I take 90% of mine. Reviewed by Tara on 23/07/2009 Quite simply the worst phone ever. The touch screen section has grown a personality of its own so sends text's when I’m in the middle of typing or has a little fit and goes into all the options. I have to wait till it stops so I can cancel whatever it was trying to do and carry on texting. If I start typing a phone number, the back touch screen button presses so I loose it. This happens for a further few times before I give up or wait a while till I’ve calmed down to try again. Sometimes if I try to ring someone, it decides it doesn’t want to ring them and cancels it, or hangs up on them much to my mothers annoyance when I continue to hang up on her mid conversation. If I use the internet and try to send a long email, the touch part of the screen will highlight all by itself and it goes back a page so I loose everything I just did. I have given up with the net now, it’s so unreliable. The flash doesn’t work most of the time. So a lot of the pictures are dark. Though I might get lucky and it decides to work but only sometimes. The buttons are stupidly small, wonder which brainiac at Sony decided it was a good idea. Jeez. When I first got the phone, it was as good as gold, and I could look past the pathetic buttons. I was very pleased with it and hadn’t one bad word to say. But a few months later and its now possessed. It’s obvious that the touch screen has malfunctioned, and the buttons...well just cant help themselves because they have always been pathetic. But my friend has the same phone and is having the exact same problems but hers likes to turn it self off and it has decided it doesn’t want to play any sound anymore. Its a very unreliable phone and I cant wait to get a new one, blow this one up to smithereens and I will be definitely be crying with laughter and relief when I do it. I might even have a little party to celebrate. Any excuse for a party eh! Rating:

Reviewed by ihatetmobile on 30/06/2009 I got this phone about nearly 18 months ago. Worse mistake of my life. It caused me so many problems. It broke down in the first week and the handset was replaced. That handset stopped working after about a month and a half. It was then repaired by sony ericsson and worked for a while before breaking down again. It kept switching itself on and off, sometimes just froze and I had to take the battery out and put it back in. Occasionally the camera lens wouldnt open wither. This was repaired yet again by sony ericcson and worked for a few months. It kept switching itself on and off for a long number of months, I gave up on sending it for repair because they took so long to 'repair'. After a while I had enough and gave it off for repair. That was the third time the replacement phone broke down. It broke down again with the camera lens not opening and the phone freezing and restarting even in the middle of a phone call. My advice to everyone is to never get this phone. The camera quality is brilliant, the games are fun to play but seriously..whats the point of all these features i f the phone doesnt even switch on!! The highest quality phone I have ever been in possesion of, with the high resoloution camera and the touch menu screen, it is quite the luxury product. I really admire this phone, and still do, but I always seem to get a HUGE problem. It happened once to me before; I left the phone untouched, I looked after it very well, and yet it broke and wouldn't turn on. So I got it fixed. Recently however, soon after getting the phone back, it happened again. The whole phone refuses to turn on with no lights that come on, except for an unpromising red one when plugged into the mains for charging... If this phone never broke on me I would be very happy, however it does break for a lot of people, so therefor, unfortunately, I do not recommend this phone to anyone (even if it is very shiny) It is a pity, because this phone was very accessable, stylish and practical... now it is broken. I'm not interested in all the technical stuff, I just want to phone, text and take great photos. The key pad took some getting used to and I've had the black photo problem like many other people. What I can't understand is why the lens is protected by plastic rather than a lens cover, like the K800i. Although the phone is a good looking one, it is simply not worth the hassle, even for the "decent" camera, which in my opinion is shocking whenever the flash is used. The phone shuts itself down, mine about 6 times an hour, even if it is locked in my pocket or something, minding its own business. When it does this, it completely resets the whole phone, deleting texts, alarms, notes, theme etc. I have really had enough of this phone, even though i have had a temporary phone more than the K850i, and unfortunately i still need to put up with it until the winter. Reviewed by LUCY on 17/04/2009 DO NOT GET THIS PHONE! I've had this phone for about 1 year and after from this experience I'm never going to trust sony again. the reason for this is there has been MANY technical problems with this phone. 1. It occasionally resets itself for no apparent reason. Roughly about 3 times or more a day 2. The phone regularly freezes meaning I have to take out the battery. 3. The Media software on the phone stopped working, saying that I have no music or photos what so ever, which meant I had to look at my media by going to menu then files. Which takes longer and this prevents you from looking at your pictures as a slide show. 4. The widgets for the camera which allows you to either have it in camera mode, video mode, or view mode. on my phone the view mode stopped working and everytime when i went on it the phone turns off. 5. After I had my phone for a while, the screen suddenly went black, so i had to restart the phone. But when it turned on, half of the screen had disappeared! Half of the screen went fuzzy and i couldn't see the top half of the screen anymore. After that the phone switches itself off even more which meant i couldn't possibly use my phone. By the time these problems came i couldn't take it back to orange to get it repaired. But now i'm getting a upgrade i'm so relieved. This phone WAS great when you first have it, but the longer you have it problems start to pop up. After breaking/losing those phones I was so excited about "upgrading" and getting the k850i with the 'supposedly' best camera yet! Yeah Right...!! The flash is terrible - photo's taken in low light turn out yellow, especially skin tones - hideous; if you are too close to your subject the flash is far too strong and the image turns out white and totally over-exposed. And then there is the bloody focus - it takes an eternity of holding down the button and waiting for it to focus and take an actual photo - useless for grabbing out your camera to quickly capture a moment, exactly what the camera phone was designed for in the first place. Believe me no-one wants to wait around to have their photo taken with you shouting "wait... wait... wait for the camera....hold it now... don't move..."!!! Main problems have been the three touch keys at the top just stop working for no reason, really annoying when in the middle of sending a text as you need one of them to sent it! Screen freezes all the time. Randomly switches itself off. Yet Vodafone and Sony both refuse to admit there is a problem. Got it when it first came out at a quite exorbitant price (as was my old but still excellent K750i), has paired it with 2 GB microSD, it became quite a powerful cybershot phone. Unfortunately those tiny buttons are just not for me. In the end I'm back with my loyal M600i while this state-of-the-art (?) piece is lying in my drawer. It also used to take great photos, but then the flash seemed to become out of sync with the shutter so I would always get totally black photos when flash was used. (and no my fingers weren't covering the flash) This phone is dodgy and after looking on the internet so many other people have complained of similar or identical problems. Reviewed by Pete on 13/03/2009 This phone has several pros and many many cons. It is good for pictures, the camera is excellent, if it had a proper lens it would be as good as a real 5 megapixel camera. The video camera is not the same resolution so the picture quality makes The Blair Witch Project look like Sony HD. It's easy to text o, with a handy cut & paste feature and generally has a nice lay out, -there's nothing frustrating about where things are on this phone. What is frustrating are the touch screen keys, 3 of them. They don't work every time you press them & since they are the main navigation keys this happens every time you use it. Secondly, the reliability. This is my 4th handset and it is now beginning to malfunction in the exact fashion of the last two. When you're on a call it will cut out for 10 seconds, then give you 5 more seconds of talk time, (enough time for you to say, "sorry my phone is a piece of rubbish I'll ring you back") then switch itself off. I don't want another one. I don't enjoy getting angry every time I need to phone someone. Rating:

Reviewed by Sal Shieldes on 09/02/2009 DON'T DO IT!!! Do not buy this phone! I have had all of the problems listed above! I got my first K850i in June 08. The speaker died within 2 weeks and could not be repaired so the phone was replaced. Since then I've had the screen, the software, and the fascia all replaced - basically the entire phone - and it still doesn't work! it crashes and constantly needs rebooting, the screen freezes and it needs rebooting, the 'end call' button freezes and needs rebooting, the sim card won't register - and, yes you've guessed it - needs rebooting. Rebooting is obviously a pain as I have to remove the case, open the phone, remove the battery and sim, replace the sim and battery, wait for the phone to start up... And yes, I have read the manual! Also, photo messaging constantly crashes - a photo message sent to my inbox usually blocks all other incoming messages. A new fault developed last week though - I sent a photo message out but it jammed in my outbox, causing a queue of text messages behind it which did not send. The phone didn't tell me the messages hadn't sent and, in the meantime, all my incoming calls went straight to voicemail. The only way to delete the picture message and unblock the phone was - quel suprise - to dismantle the phone yet again and reboot it. Now the calendar is having a nervous breakdown and keeps doubling up my reminders! Also the design of the calendar is frustrating as it is too fiddly and you go through too much button pressing just to set a basic reminder. On top of all this nonsense, I cannot download music to the phone! I've tried every which way, have updated the phone, had a new cd sent, tried Bluetooth, tried the software download on the website, etc, and I still can't download music. I have now given up and have gone back to my W810i! Rating:

Reviewed by Lewis on 31/01/2009 I have the sony ericsson k850i Blue edition which looks the best. This is a great phone. I have had my sony ericsson k850i for almost a month and it has only froze about two or three times. Accept for that it works great. The camera is also excellent as is the video recording which is much better than on my old phone the sony ericsson k800i. The first day I got my k850i I took a picture in a pitch black room using the flash and the pictures I took kept on coming out black or either underexposed and then I realised that I had not taken the plastic cover off of the back of the phone which was on the phone when I opened the box. After taking the plastic cover off of the back of the phone my pictures which I took in a pitch black room using the flash came out in full colour and detail. So for anyone wondering why their camera takes black pictures the reason is above or you are either putting your finger/hands over the flash, led, or the light sensor. If it is none of those then you need to update your phone using the sony ericsson update service found on their website. one of the worst things I found about my phone is that half the time you press the buttons the casing sometimes creeks. My touch sensetive/touch screen buttons work perfectly but like other people have mentioned they a bit to sensetive which is not a bad thing. One of the things I also love about the k850i is the automatic lens cover which makes it feel like a propper digital camera, I got to say that camera lens is really big compare to my old k800i, it is about the same size as the lens on my digital camera which is the sony cyber-shot w110 which is 7.2 mega pixels. I also think that the addition of the 3 led is useful because I now have a torch on my phone and it is used as an assist light and a video light which works very well in the dark and very bright but not as bright as I expected because I compared my k850i's led to my friends w610i's daul led (t wo led) and the 3 led didn't seem to be that much brighter than the daul led on the w610i. The screen is also very bright, much brighter than my old phone the k800i and is quite a bit bigger. another thing I love about this phone is the new cybershot camera interface which is a bit easier and I also like the slider switch on the top of the phone which can be used to switch between video, camera and photo gallery, I also think that the accelorometer/ motion sensor is very cool as it automatically rotaes the picture and can be used to play the marble madness game all in all agrat phone but not as good as the sony ericsson c905 which I have tried in the 3 store Rating:

Reviewed by Liam on 06/01/2009 OK Everyone, I have just recently brought a Sony Ericsson K850i mobile phone. I am about to write you a true review with no lies. I have had my mobile phone since 31/12/2008. I did receive a problem with the camera that other people have reported that the photos taken turns out black but once flash is turned off there fine. However I had to get a replacement handset. I spoke to Sony Ericsson and they advised me that my handset was the fault. Once I got my replacement handset BINGO it works fine when taking photos. I did notice that I definitely had a faulty handset as the previewer’s handset I had before wasn’t flashing properly. As the new handset replacement worked slightly different. While taking a photo the LED bright light will come on until you focus the camera then once you have taken the photo the Xeon flash will flash like the K800i did if anyone had one there’ll understand me. I hope some people with the same problems with the camera will help you solve it. If not it might be because your handling the handset incorrect as while taking a photo I have noticed that you have to handle it at the edges unless you will get a black or dark photo. Apart from that handset fault I haven’t had any problems. I would just like to mention that the touch buttons are a little fiddly and will take a while to learn how to use the. Once you learn how to use them they seem to work fine. Also the auto rotate don’t always work every time. Everything else works fine and smoothly. I think this mobile phone is a lot better then the other K series ranges. It’s the best mobile phone I have ever had if I forgot the problems that I experienced firstly. I Hope this review helps new buyers that are thinking about buying a K850i and the buyers that already owns one that are having camera black photos problems. Rating:

Reviewed by Jason on 30/12/2008 I purchased this phone around 9 months ago and have had nothing but problems. The phone often freezes on start-up and the touch screen stopped working after about 2 months. After sending the phone back for repair I had to chase them up to send it; I eventually received it after more than 3 weeks. Unfortunately they hadn't fixed it and so I had to send it back again. This time they emailed me back saying: "During the inspection procedure the unit has been diagnosed as 'Un-Repairable under the Manufacturer's Warranty'", "We shall be posting you an estimate to cover the cost of the repair" and "we can return the unit to you, unrepaired for the sum of 10.00 +VAT"!! Unbelievable. This is the worst phone I've ever had. I will never buy a Sony Ericsson again and will do my best to put off as many people from buying them as I can due to the way I've been treated. Reviewed by DJ Clive on 30/12/2008 I've been with Sony Ericsson phones for a long time now, as I have always felt that technically they're the best. I'm less than two months away from my "upgrade" so I thought I would logon here and see what one I fancy next. So far none!! I was interested in the iPhone at one point but with so many problems with it I think it's pants! I'm very disappointed with the reviews of the SE C902/C905/Xerpia X1, as they seem to be the best that SE can offer at the moment. So for me it's back to my good old K850i!! Personally, I've had very little problems with it. The keyboard's fine unless you're wearing gloves, and I've never had a single problem with the camera! The only major thing that went wrong for me was my fault: I took it in the bathroom and the steam got into it and messed up the screen, so I had to get a new one. Apart from that the only slightly annoying thing because of the three touch buttons, is that you end up creating a draft message accidentally e very time you hold the bottom of the phone next to your cheek, so best to hold it slightly away. Unless I see a review where everyone is giving a certain phone the thumbs up, I'll stick with the K850i. Rating:
Reviewed by Jeremy on 28/12/2008 Very disappointing. Touch screen temperamental at best - either won't touch or works with hardly a touch at all then connects to net - beware extra charges. Camera poor, K750i I had previously was much better even though lower mega pixel. The flash is useless - follow every part of user guide & still get over exposed pics even if alter exposure settings. K750i - faultless. The photofix just makes pic brighter - not much use if over exposed with flash or bright sun. Pics of poorer quality than would expect & macro not much use compared to other phones. Beware if you get annoyed with this phone & want to put your contrat 3SIM into your old phoe then unless a 3G phone it will only work, if at all for a short while before 3 cut you off - something to do with them renting networks. These are NOT user error...these are faults. I now have a phone that will not switch on, it mearly lights up its keyboard....so yet again its going to be returned for repair!... I prefered my Nokia 3320 than this piece of junk. The K850 is just so poor. It's slow to use, the MP3 is awful, the camera is not even that good and the battery life is less than any other phone i've had. Not only these issues but the electronic faults really get on my nerves too. It keeps turning itself off, especially when you try and do more than one thing at a time i.e use the MP3, send a txt then you get a call, the volume button has broken twice as i have already returned it to the manufacturer once and need to do it again, every now and then the touch sensitive areas just decide to select something out of the blue for no reason. With it being so god damn slow when selecting things, sometimes ive sent a txt to the wrong person altogether which can be VERY dangerous. The camera is outstandingly bad, especially indoors when you end up with pur blackness. To put it simply - this phone is rubbish. Rating:

Reviewed by Hardlines on 05/12/2008 I wont go in to the spec aspect of the phone as you already have a features list accompanied by a full review. But I will touch upon user experience, and the word your looking for is... annoying! On my first day using my phone i couldn't get a good picture as a well lit room proved to difficult for the camera (even set to 5mp), to provide me with a visible picture, grr! I later found out after mucking around with the phone which seemed to be hours that you can't place you fingers close the flash but hold it like you carrying two dirty nappies, one in each hand! This proves very difficult to take stable pictures. The other main gripe is the keypad, but not what your thinking or what you may have read, my question to sony ericsson is - where is the enter button normally located in the centre of the navigation keys? What? Your saying that theres no need and that you are replacing this feature with the '2' and '5' buttons? Grrr! My final and most annoying gripe with this phone - it's rather slow for a simple phone. Ok, we are not talking P1i slow or Windows Mobile slow but slow enough to cheese you off! Say for example you make a call and would like to place the phone call on loud speaker (for want of better uses whilst on a call), sometimes the phone will not allow you for the first minute or so to do anything because it will appear as if it has just frozen at the screen where you pressed the call button (say you went in to your phone book), but it hasn't! place your ear to the phone and you will be able to hear your friend saying "Hello?...mate you there?...He's doing it again, look!". Small niggles but really annoying. In conclusions your looking for a phone, there are better ones out there in the sony ericsson range. Rating:

The second time this happened the keys stopped working all together. I can only use the functions on the phone which don't require the 3 sensor keys. Reviewed by Gareth on 28/10/2008 THIS IS THE WORST PHONE IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE! Firstly, I had this phone on T-Mobile contract for £45 per month. The phone was good for atleast the first WEEK! (Lol). From there it was down-hill, and then down-hill even more! Phone kept freezing and not allowing me to recieve incoming calls! Then got slower and slower and seemed asthough the phone needed to catch-up with me! After three weeks, the phone completely broke. T-Mobile then issued me a new one through my insurance that I took out. The second phone I received didn't even make it for a week and the same things begun to happen. After just under two weeks, had the same problem again and was then sent a replacement. The third one I had lasted about a month, until the whole thing happened again and another one was needed. Now, after a fortnight of receiving the fourth one, I've just put it in the bin and gone out and bought myself a Nokia N96, because its happened once again and I'm not prepared to pay £50 excess fee each fortnight-or-so after the phone breaks. Seriously guys, I'd usually swear by SonyEricsson's but this one is a real big flop. I'd gladly go back to use a ten year-old phone before I'd use another one of these. Don't waste your time and money on the K850i, get yourself something less Savvy, something with less features so less things can go wrong. On a plus side, if you don't rarely use your phone, this will make a nice orniament. P.S I know three other people with this fault, and none of them are still on their first phone, they've all had replacements and would never have another SonyEricsson. Reviewed by Matt Helyar on 30/09/2008 I used this phone for a couple of months and there are a few things that I have to comment on. This was my first sony ericsson the buttons are pointlessly small and it was very irritating. the D-pad in between the keys is the reason for this and this is also very irritating. i don't mind the touch buttons though, but whenever any of my friends try to use it they get exited, then disappointed thinking it was touchscreen (the touch buttons are just the small area between the silver buttons and screen, not an area at the bottom of the screen as the manual claims. it's a magnet for fingerprints. if you put any finger behind the phone when using the camera it will confuse the sensor and mismatch the flash to the exposuer and you get a black picture. dispite this the picture quality is excellent, and i'd recommend it as a camera. it's still a big heavy brick for this day and age. sony ericsson's PC software is very low quality, thankfully you can ignore the software and use it as a USB mass storage device, but i didn't work this out until i'd already installed its required quicktime (which i hate and you can never completely remove) PS. where's this second front facing camera that the review says can be used for video calling? i never saw that. Reviewed by Richard Simkins on 14/09/2008 I've been a Sony Ericsson fan for many, many years, but this model is the second disappointing SE phone on the bounce (w880i being my prior phone). Firstly, the 'touch screen' - the 3 buttons on the bottom of the screen are in theory a good idea, but these are poorly executed. From day 1 I found the buttons unresponsive. And this seems to permeate through the entire keypad - I have lost track of the number of times when I've been unable to unlock my phone becuase it has decided not to work. But there are bigger bugs than this. It shuts down when writing texts or when on the internet. When doing so one of 3 things can happen. It can either reboot completely, switch off, or 'die' for several minutes and refuse to turn on. The camera, which seems to have universally been panned, is poor. When it works, photo and image quality is very high. But the flash seems ill-aligned to the shutter, so you will regularly get blank photos. But, to top this all off, three days ago it gave up the ghost completely... after 8 months. The problem? The key bad / touch screen. It has decided to continually select the middle touch screen button so when unlocked the result will look something like this... Menu - Messages - Write New - Continue - Select Number - *first name in phone book* - Send Message.... Message sent. My phone sent 20 blank messages to Aaron before I new what had happened. And to top it off, when going into my local phone store, I was told 'off the record' that this is a common problem with this phone and it was the THIRD phone THAT DAY to be returned. All in all a highly disppointing phone. The photos can be good, the idea and the theory behind the phone was good, but the execution was incredibly poor. Rating:

Now i cannot even get into the phone, as the touch screen does not work. I didn't of course realise it was a touch screen when I first upgraded online so it took a good 5 mins to work out how to press the buttons! I agree many of my photos came out black but I learnt to get around it-avoid reflective surfaces, hold hands at very corners of phone etc etc. Unfortunately my problem is that whilst I do really like the phone....It has broken TWICE!! And by broken I mean I can see it's on, the buttons light up but the screen is black. This happened first 2 months after I got it and another 2 months later it's happened again. For this reason I have now changed to the C902 and wait to see what this one is like. Although I did like the phone i cannot recommend it due to the constant problems. I have had not, not two, not three even, but FOUR Sony Ericsson K850i handsets, which have all pretty much been a total NIGHTMARE from start to finish. As the main review says, on paper, this phone is amazing: The camera, takes better pictures than my digital compact (hey, it's an oldie!), it has super-fast hspda, with which you can literally motor through the internet, excellent battery life than laughs in the face of other phones, handy applications like track-id, which renders premium services like Shazam totally useless. "Fantastic!" I hear you cry. However, throw in the touch-screen of uselessness, (stops working/works in reverse/operates when you aren't even anywhere near the phone), add a dash of disappearing menu and cover liberally with some "crash every time anyone rings you or texts you", and you have a very shiny, pretty doorstop. The response from Sony Ericsson has been, tryupdating the software...great...only I've had this phone since November 2007, and there hasn't been the faintest whiff of one, and what with a new range of cyber-shot branded phones having been released a few months ago, it looks doubtful that there will be one. Reviewed by debbie on 06/08/2008 I have had this phone for a week and a half on upgrade from Orange, having previously owned a Sony Ericsson K800i. In all I do think it is a really good phone in many respects but I do have a few gripes with it too. I don't think I will ever find a phone that is 100% perfect though so I'm still trying to get to grips with this! My biggest priority was a 5 mega pixel phone. I would have upgraded to the new Sony Ericsson but it's ugly, & the Nokia & Samsung 5 mega pixel phones are bricks. So I thought I would go for this as it looks really good, as good as the iPhone looks and I have heard that the camera and internet connectivity on that are pants! I am disappointed though that the quality of the photos doesn't seem as good as my 3.2 mega pixel K800i. Maybe this could be because it has more advanced features & I just haven't got to grips with it properly yet. But unfortunately it switches back to the default settings as soon as you have finished taking pics & therefo re there is no taking advantage of photo opportunities at the drop of a hat without each time fiddling with the settings first. It is also disappointing that there is no lens cover & the lens gets covered in fingerprints when using the jog wheel! The video camera seems really good though. I have noticed other comments from earlier reviews stating that when they have uploaded photos on the computer & compared them with photos from their previous phone they have found them to not be as high in quality. I haven't been able to check this out for myself as my Adobe Photoshop won't find photos from this new phone for some reason! However, the software supplied with the phone seems more user friendly than the Sony Ericsson software. As a serial texter, my biggest issues are that once you enter a recipient, there seems to be no option to edit or delete the recipeint if you have entered the wrong one. Instead you have to delete your message and start again! Also there is no option to copy text & paste into a new message. You can copy & paste but only within the same message. Also there are no emoticons which I find really strange! On the positive side the phone looks fab. Contrary to other reports I have found the battery life to be excellent. I also think that the sound quality from the music player is excellent & I have had no trouble importing MP3 files from my PC. I haven't managed to tune any radio stations in though! I notice some people have complained about the touch screen control but it comes easy once you have got to grips with it. The internet speed is really good. I don't care that there is no sat nav as I have a separate sat nav devise & quite frankly would struggle to view maps on a mobile screen. It would have been a bonus to have WiFi connectivity though. In all I think this is a really good phone. It looks really stylish and has a lot of features that were missing on my previous phone, though I do wish it had the capability to edit & d elete text recipients, copy & paste text & display emoticons. This wouldn't put me off buying it though. I am never fully satisfied with a new phone at first! I have tried every other brand of handset previously & this is my first LG. In comparison I'm not disappointed. There are lots of things that are different that will take me longer to get used to but that just means I won't get bored with it too quickly which is a good thing! This thankfully is a good friend of mine who sees the funny side but it is becoming increasingly annoying. I am also dissapointed with the camera. It is difficult to use and I have not yet been able to use any of the pictures I have taken, could be the flash but i just feel that it is one big design fault. However, the touch sensitive buttons worked when they're not supposed to - when making a call a blank text message was created and sent to the first person in the phone book. When you need them work, they just freeze. The battery is rubbish - needs charging every day (I usually make 3-5 calls a day). Several times I lost reception for the whole day (although being in the central London!). Also several times having the reception, I was not able to receive or make calls. Called customer service and been told it's very common for K850i. Few days ago it just died on me. When I tried to turn it on, keypad lighted but screen remained black. Called customer service again and they want to give me replacement (K850i) for £30 + £6 a month (insurance) or for £70. I can also send it back to Sony Ericsson but it might takes months until they reapir it. NO WAY!! To anyone who wants to get K850i - for your own good AVOID IT! Rating:

Menu system is straight forward and of typical sony ercisson standards. Camera function is nothing short of brilliant, with an auto rotate function to view your images. The quality of these images on a PC is very good. Battery life is good, averaging a charge every 3-4 days. I'd give the k850i a star rating of 4 however I can't. The simple reason is this; I'm on my 7th k850i and it's just not reliable... at all. From there it wiped my entire phone blank, contacts, pictures, everything. Complained to 02, got another, same problem with it freezing, got another, again it wiped my phone clear(luckily i had an old sim card with my contacts on), sent it back again, got a damaged return phone back off them, sent that back and listed the replacment straight onto ebay when i got it. Reviewed by Stuart Clark on 23/07/2008 Having read the reviews on this site I was dubious about this phone, however most of my fears have been proven unfounded. The problem with the camera flash is simple - do not let ANY of your fingers in front when taking a photo. I think you naturally cover a light sensor or something so even though you see the flash, the photo is dark. It's easy to get a photo to take once you know this (I've also adjusted the ISO settings). That said, it's still annoying - if someone else uses your phone (i.e. to take a photo of you and a friend), even if YOU are aware of the problem, OTHER people aren't and you have to look like a pratt while you try and explain this. The buttons are small and annoying, like my previous phone the k810i. Oh how I long for the days of my Sharp GX20! That's the only phone that had good buttons! The silliest thing is that there is a glass/plastic covering on the outside of the camera, OUTSIDE the lens cover?! What on Earth is the point of that? Having a lens cover on the OUTSIDE where it COVERS THE LENS may make more sense! So even though you have a lens cover, you are still exposed to the possibility of smudges and scratches. The new control doesn't break like it did on earlier SE's, although not having a joystick makes games more difficult. In general I'm pleased with this, as the the joystick on the earlier k800i/k810i was a nightmare for playing up. In general though, the phone is okay once you get used to the niggles, and has the usual high SE standard for bluetooth, support for media files, net connectivity, and so forth. You can also (finaly!) use the flash as a torch. With the uprated media player I'd certainly rate this better than the k810i, but I think my next phone may well be something along the lines of the N95 with GPRS and wireless capabilities sadly knocking the SE range out of the water. These are still good phones, the low rating I've given is a little severe but the problems with the camera, the lens cover, and the buttons demand it. Best out of the K range but there are still plenty of better phones out there. Rating:
Reviewed by David Kenna on 23/07/2008 I left a review here on 9th July (see below), while my k850i was being repaired. I was not impressed before, and now having got my "fixed" phone back, it staill has faults, some the same, some different. It lasted about 3 days before it re-booted during use. Then, when it feels like it, you cannot hear the dial tone or person you phoned, and the same if they phone you back. I have to switch off the phone and re-start it....and by the way, it does that itself as well! And it still freezes up! I complained to the CEO office of Carphone Warehouse via their website, (I advise everyone to do this, but keep the message short, as if it's too long the message won't send, "web page unavailable"). They called back 3 days later, and told me to take phone to Carphone Warehouse, and they ordered a Re-Furbished handset. If this fails within 28 days, they said they'd replace it with a different phone with similar specifications. I fully expect the refurbed k850i to fail, and hope the replacement will be ok. Ps., I'm on Orange, but I don't think it matters what network you're on, the phone is no good. Rating:

Also some other features on the phone no longer work because it did something to itself. This happened to a friend of mine who owns the same phone and got it at the same time as me. Texting can be quite hard sometimes, and the buttons dont always work. The paint from the cancel button has rubbed off and the paint from the D pad has rubbed off too, and this is not after alot of use. The only good thing with this phone is the camera. Very good quality, unless the flash is on and you are close to the object your taking a photo of, it will just be white. By the way to use the camera, hold it down half way, wait for it to focus, then take the picture. It will work then. I did try to take the phone back, three times! Also if you by accident cover that with you fingers it will also still cause the image to come out wrong. i found the phone to be great as it has a good reception that does n ot die out, and also the speaker on the phone is clear and also has a higher db rating then most other phones in the same class of 5 megapixel. hope this helps Rating:

Camera shutter button fails to open, thus locking up the phone in camera mode. 2. The touch key on-screen descriptions disappear, leaving you to guess their function in various applications. 3. The phone switches off for no reason. 4. Callers sometimes cannot hear you, or you them. Even if you hang up and call again, same fault. You have to shut the power off and re-start it. 5. The so-called high speed HSDPA seems slower than my old Nokia, and sometimes just freezes up altogether when atempting to browse. My son's W850i walkman phone is far quicker. 6. Even after carrying out software updates via the Sony Ericsson website, the phone is still problematic...sometimes worse! 7. The buttons are very fiddly, and I found that it was too easy to mistakenly hit one of the touchkeys, taking you to an unwanted menu option. There are good points, such as the camera quality (when it works), connectivity such as bluetooth. But overall, I am VERY disappointed with this phone. The first handset was returned after a week or so due to the camera shutter and software issues. It is now a few months old, and is away being "repaired", for the switching off issue, inability to hear caller, and other stuff listed above. I took it back to the shop and they refunded it no problem, and with in 1hour of leaving the shop (unfortunatly i was mid-way of traveling home) the phone did the exact same thing. I have had this phone now for approx. 3 weeks (the 2nd one) and the camera doesnt open, and on the rare occasion that it does, it wont take the pictures! the battery life is shocking! Another promblem i havnt seem any one complaining about is, when typing a text the screen would go black then a red line scanns down the screen (as if raining) then the phone freezes and you have to take the battery out to switch it on, even then its very slow! I would now like to cancel my contract because when i contacted the shop they said i can get another k850i or a different phone (none as good as the k850i and none in the same price range) i was furious, and i am wondering would i have the grounds on which to cancell my contract? i enetered this contract wanting a reliable k850i on my second one now and it is definetly not this! Reviewed by purseonality on 01/07/2008 I was desperate for this phone but now that I've had it about 6 months, I don't think it was worth paying full retail for. I found a weird problem with it when I went through security on the way to Paris. After it went through the x-ray machine, the phone was pretty much fried--buttons wouldn't work properly, it wouldn't get a signal, etc. My friend has the exact same phone and I recently learned he experienced the exact same problem! After he took it through airport security, the touchscreen was fried. We both had to send our phones back to Sony for a rebuild. Now I'm scared to take it through any x-ray machine!! I plan to hand it to the screener and ask them to hand-screen it. Too bothersome for a mobile phone, I think. The touch-screen isn't a true touch-screen, either. It's basically just three buttons at the bottom. They are finicky, and often either don't press when you want them to, or press when you DON'T want them to. I've also had them get pressed just with the pressure of my cheek against the phone when I'm on a call. It's not uncommon to hang up from a call and find out that I'm about to send a blank text message to someone. There should be an option to disable the touch-screen when you're talking. In hindsight, I should have waited until the phone had been around a while--I probably would have spent my £300 on something else. Rating:

To be honest though the k800i i had before was a bit slow and you'll get that these days with the technology and how the phones are made quickly. I for one would reccommend it as once you know how to take the correct picture the camera is excellent for a phone, the music quality is excellent too even on loudspeaker. Sometimes the phone is trying to catch up because of the slow software but it's not that much of a problem that i would say don't buy it. The camera's wonderful, til the phone plays up, then the flash becomes too bright! I really wouldnt recoment this phone, i'm on my 4th! It's shocking! ok, it doesnt tend to freeze too much. But it will restart itself, then wont let you onto messages sayin "operation failed" you have to master reset it, loses your memory, so when you get a new number you have to constantly remember to "back up to ms" all the time! nightmare! The downsides - the touch screen buttons are incredibly frustrating and quite unneccessary really. It also took me a long time to get used to the weird placing of the arrow keys. My other major gripe with this handset is that it seems to break so easily. I had my handset replaced earlier this week after my original one was stolen, and already it is occasionally switching itself off and on again for no reason and without warning, and some of the buttons have stopped working after it got bashed last night. Reviewed by AW on 26/05/2008 I have had this phone for about 2 months now. The phone is very sleek and certainly looks very nice. I have now got used to the camera and, although initially results were poor, I find that outdoors it performs spectacularly. Indoors, however, takes some getting used to and the results cam be very mixed,. Fortunately I have little call to use it indoors. The low points are mainly down to the keypad and the new style 'joystick'. These are too small, especially for my fat thumbs, and I am continuing to get frustrated at pressing the wrong buttons. The touch sensitive buttons can be a bit flaky at times and not seem to accept my touch and then they suddenly burst into life and catch up with my commands. By this time I have repeatedly pressed a button which sends the phone into the wrong menu. I feel that the setup/config options are very limited and do not seems to allow me to customize the phone as I would like. I would give the camera 4* and the phone 3* which is disappointing. Reviewed by Paul on 12/05/2008 "problems with the keypad and camera mean that we can't in all honesty recommend it" Ok so the top navigation button and the center touch button are a little two close together, it took my own butter fingered self at least half an hour to learn how to work it properly. And admittedly it is an auto focus camera instead of a fixed one, so if you switch it to manual (like any auto focus camera)it will require a degree of expertise to use correctly. Lastly the camera lens protective glass screen is near flush with the back of the camera, so invariably the fingerprints will need wiped off before you use it. Enough said about the so called flaws. I upgraded from a K800i on which I couldn't press the back button without telling it to connect to the internet, due to a poor keyboard layout. No such problems here though this phone takes an hour or two to learn to use but its worth the effort. Reviewed by Julia Clarke on 05/05/2008 I was really looking forward to upgrading to the K850i after having the W850i (the best music phone in my opinion). However after getting the phone I found the touch sensitive buttons really annoying, i did get used to them quite quickly but they were hard to use with a silicon case on the phone. The phone kept randomly restarting on me while going through menu's and listening to music. The text was so slow to respond that I had generally written half the message before any text appeared. I admit I'm not the slowest texter but a phone should really be able to keep up with the average text speed, and I don't think it could. I may have caused the phone to slow down by putting a 8Gb memory card (although it only had 3.5Gb of content on it), and the phone was slow/auto restarted before I put a larger memory card. The phone is an attractive phone (as far as a phone can be attractive that is). I found it ok to text, the buttons are a bit uncomfortable. The music player me nu was below the photo option which was annoying as it isn't quick to get to when on the move. Compared to the W850i which has a music button that lights up when you press it which is so which couldn't be more practical and useful, this phone (K850i) is a pain. Due to the phone restarting and being so slow I sent the phone back for a replacement (after 3 weeks), the new phone I'm going to sell and either stick with the old phone or look for a better music phone. Reviewed by Pete on 01/05/2008 I've had this phone for about four months now and am not particularly impressed. Whilst I've managed to take a few good pictures with the camera function, the flash, as outlined above, really does tend to mess most of them up, a dcent photo normally requires about five attempts, sometimes partially shielding the overly powerful flash, to get one good result. The keypad is truly horrible, with it's small, fiddly, raised buttons that are separated on the keypad and they're a nightmare for texting, awkward and uncomfortable to use. The buttons are ridiculously small and difficult to cleanly place your thumb-tip on. The microphone is good and the speakers acceptable for a mobile phone. Although the touch-screen function was rather unreliable to start with, it soon settled down with use and is one of the best features of the phone (just be careful in the rain, a few drops of water on the screen can stop the touch screen funtion working properly for a while, in my experie nce). The major weakness for me is the navigation pad and keypad in general, mine has just developed a fault that means when I try to move through the menus, every time I press on the navigation buttons the screen goes black and then re-appears (if I'm lucky, sometimes it just stays black until the buttons are pressed again). The same is true of all of the buttons whilst texting, meaning my four month old and carefully looked after phone will now have to be sent for repair. As a customer and as an engineer, I deem this as unacceptable and indicative of very poor design and quality control. I've tried all of the standard 'fixes', switched it off for half an hour and then on again, removed and replaced the battery, likewise the sim-card. All to no avail. I previously had an earlier Sony Ericsson phone with a joystick which was similarly abysmal and after about eight months became totally unusable. Although the keypad was far better than that on the K850i, with large, flat buttons that you could easily slide your thumb over smoothly whilst texting, the keypad on the K850i is a retrograde step in terms of design and one that I find hard to understand, the old keypad design wasn't broken but S.E. decided to fiddle with it, making it worse, if only they'd stuck with just improving upon the silly joystick. Whilst Sony Ericsson appear to be capable of making some quite useful phones with some great gadgets, they're really letting themselves down with the quality and useability of the keypads and navigation devices, if I'm given the option to replace my S.E. phone altogether with a competitor's product when I take it for repair tomorrow then I shall jump at the chance and never buy another S.E. phone again. Reviewed by Richard on 29/04/2008 I've had this phone for about four months now. Had a SE K750i before that, and a Samsung D500 prior to that phone. I didn't know about the touch-screen feature until I got the phone, but I have mixed feelings about it. The centre key is easy to use but the two side keys are awkwardly positioned and not easy to 'press'. It often takes me 2 or 3 attempts before I'm able to get that function to activate. Being a male I have large fingers so I do find the navigational keys a pain in the neck to try and press correctly every time, but on the plus side, the number keys are large and well-spaced so the phone scores in that area. Features-wise, the phone has everything I wanted. Blue-tooth, HSDPA (FINALLY!!!), Infra-red, Radio, Torch, Media Player and, of course, the camera. I must admit that I've ALSO had the problem with taking black photos indoors particularly at night. BUT with a little practice, this is easily overcome. The trick is, as per the instructions (which I'm guessing most of the other people who sent the phone back immediately, didn't read), you have to press the camera button down half way first to allow the camera to focus. Once it's focused, it beeps and then you press the button fully to take a perfectly focussed picture with the correct amount of flash. I had to go through quite a few ruined photos before I got this right but now the camera is a pleasure. So, thumbs up for quality photos but thumbs down for a highly un-intuitive design that is difficult to to use. Oh and thumbs up for finally fixing the annoying camera lense slide covers that bogged down the last three models. When you know what you're doing with the camera, the phone takes amazing photos. One thing I will say though is that if you're buying a phone purely for the camera, you really need a reality check. You're buying a PHONE, the camera is an added bonus. If you want to take professional grade photos, you'll always be better off buying a separate camera. Once you all realise that a cellphone camera is a nice gimmick on the side, nothing more, nothing less, the world will be a better place. Other thoughts on the phone: The bad:Fingerprints/smudging are a real problem - I have to keep polishing the back and front surface of the phone with my shirt to keep it looking good. Also, a major issue is the speaker through which you would normally listen to a conversation (i.e. the one above the screen): It's VERY temperamental. You can only hear it properly at a particular angle to your ear. Any other angle and it sounds soft / nonexistent. The phone occasionally just drops calls for no reason - very annoying. The new memory the phone is using is expensive and difficult to find. The good: The screen is FANTASTIC! Large, bright, crisp high resolution. It's a beauty. The media player is great and TrackID is a fab party trick. All the features you could ever want The keypad backlights do some funky tricks as you switch between different functions and when the phone is on charge. I don't know if I would recommend the phone as the touchscreen is really annoying and poorly implemented but if you can rise above that and the practice required to use the camera effectively, I'd say check it out. Touch screen buttons regularly dont work (at least a few times a day), phone turns itself off and crashes mid text and mid call, camera has trouble focusing sometimes... not what you want in a new phone. Reviewed by Rakesh on 26/04/2008 I hae been using this phone for the past 2 months. Am quite impressed with the phone but certains things could have been improved. The camera is the best i have seen in any phone, just that u need to understand the features. It has a mode setting for every kind of environment. the flash gets better with darkness. But one who fails to understand the camera features would hate this phone. And I agree the keypad is bad. battery life is good enough. one other problem i found is that, while going thru the pictures in the phone the back light goes off after a while n thats it.. u got to re-start the play option again. Overall its a good phone. Rating:

Reviewed by pobster on 26/04/2008 Utter pants! What has Sony E created with this phone? Stupid buttons, poor camera, poorly implemented touch screen technology and finish that seems to mark/scratch without even touching it. I normally write constructive reviews, but come on, the person who designed this phone was clearly a sandwich short of a picnic, or they'd just left some fancy design school and though..ooh, I know, I'll design a phone that's about as useable as an umbrella made from toilet paper. Reviewed by Beth on 25/04/2008 This phone very nearly gets 5 stars from me. Great camera that takes wonderful clear pictures (to those complaining about black pix i suggest you turn the flash on!) with a host of effects and styles. The music player is clear and not tinny like the K800i and K810i. I love the new screen and the menu design, i find the keypad very easy to use and the layout works fine for me. The only trouble i have is the phone sometimes crashes when trying to access the media files, or it takes sometime to load in to them. also, to add contact ringtones and manage files, you now have to go via the organiser in the 'My stuff' folder, which is somewhat of an inconvenience. On the whole though, these are minor quibbles for what is otherwise the best SE i have had, and i've been using them for 6 years. If you have the patience to get to know this phone, then it will reward your efforts. Rating:

Reviewed by Dave on 25/04/2008 I can't agree with a lot of this. I have had my K850i for a couple of weeks now & I LOVE it. I even paid $120 to change the covers from the blue cause I LOVE the black & green. The camera is good, very good. To be fair & honest, I think the flash could be better, that was the only disappointment, but daylight photo's are awesome ! I actually prefered the joystick however of my k800i, it was VERY easy to navigate. The internet & the screen size are awesome on the K850i also. I'm very happy with Sony phones !! Rating:

Reviewed by Chris on 23/04/2008 I've had nothing but problems with this phone. The touch sensitive buttons are suck and activate when you press nowhere near them often undoing whatever it is your trying to do. I've had to do a master reset 3 times losing everything on the phone in order to reset a software problem that stops you using texts. Often during phone calls people can hear me but i can't hear them. It often freezes up and is always slow to respond. All the shiny surfaces get finger prints on and look poo. The camera is worse than the one on my old k800i. Just wish the stupid joystick on my old k800i wasn't knackered otherwise i would destroy this pony phone with a sledgehammer and torch all the remaining bits. While on paper and a shop shelf this phone may look good when it comes to using it on a daily basis it really isn't. I've had 4 sony ericsson phones before this one and all have been superb, but i won't be getting another. Get the 5 mega pixel Nokia instead trust me. Stupid 18 month phone contracts :-( Rating:

You do get some really good quality pictures off the phone in good light/outside etc (well i have anyway) but in not such great light you do get dark pics, which is rathet annoyin when ur at a concert!!! but im not to bothered by it really, but wot i am bothered about is the fact that mine seems to freeze up when im writing a text for example or even when im not doing anythin with it, it turns itself off n back on again but there are times when it dont come back on and you cant do anythin with it so you have to take the battery out. its a pain in the bum!! but i am sending it back and getting another one so will see what it this one would be like! so overall its not a bad fone and has few negatives but there aint no perfect phone! and at end of the day its only a fone so get over it people! I use my phone for taking alot of photographs and love the camera on the K800. ok its only a 3.2MP compared with the 5MP on the K850 but the picture quality is infinatly better. The K850 pictures were always horiblly under-exposed and cant understand what sony have done wrong? They obviously know how to make good phones and cameras. ATTENTION: its how you hold it basically, theres a little sensor on the back of the phone which co-ordinates the camera and flash to work together. you'll find this sensor next to the focus light on the back, make sure your not covering it when taking a photo and you'll find the pictures are amazing!!! all in all this phone has everything on it and iv got to say its the best camera phone on the market!! recommend it to any one!! Reviewed by Rob on 18/04/2008 I have to say that I dont agree with many of the people on here. I absolutely love this phone. The camera takes exellent, high quality shots and I have not yet experienced the "black picture" problem, even when taking pictures at night. I also love the automatic orientation feature, especially the way it works with the shipped game, Marble Madness. It took me a while to work out that you control the game by tilting the phone and not using the direction keys, but I have to say it is very inventive. I really cant fault this phone. Yes, I admit the buttons are small, but I have actually found that makes it easier for me to use. In other phones where the buttons are all right next to each other (like the K750i) I frequently find myself pressing two buttons at once, not anymore! I must admit that I always have liked Sony Ericsson phones, I find them very easy and intuitive to use and this one with a 5 megapixel camera is, in my opinion, the best one so far. Treat it like a normal camera: dont put your fingers over the lens or the flash whilst taking pictures, and everything is brilliant. Rating:

Reviewed by Carson on 17/04/2008 Only had the K850i for a few days and already loving the looks and how this phone works. A few tips for the camera is to hold it by the sides (there's a bit of paper in the package saying you should hold it by the sides so the flash works properly). The touch buttons are like the ones on the u600, they can get annoying at points because it just doesn't respond and you think it has frozen. The D-pad layout takes getting used to but you'll get used to it fairly quickly. The screen is massive and bright and great as the viewfinder. The motion sensor is also good but the time it takes to respond to change in orientation takes too long in my opinion. All in all, a great phone if you know how to use it, not so great if you don't! lol. Rating:
