Reviewed by Ellie on 17/08/2008 I've quite enjoyed using this phone. The camera is pretty good and the sound quality is fine. However after less than 1 year of usage (and I am a very light user, less than 50 txts per month and never use all 150 of my inclusive minutes) a number of the buttons have ceased to function well. Not impressed. Rating:
Reviewed by Dave on 15/08/2008 The phone in general has been ok. More than happy with camera quality and overall usability etc. But my major gripe with this handset is the lack of build quality. In the last 12 months i have gone through 2 of these handsets and both with similar problems. First off was a crackling/distortion occuring in the earpiece during a call which has now got so bad that i cannot understand the person on the other end...solution - use yer hands free i suppose, but why should I? This is, first and foremost a phone right? That should mean that it's basic phone functions (ie speaking and listening) should be spot on, well not in this case. The camera element still works great but i'd really like to have a phone which still works as a phone please - crazy concept i know! The second fault which has only recently occured is that the vibrate function when recieving calls etc has given up the will to live. To sum up....nice looking and functioning (initially) camera phone. Make sure you wrap it in cotton wool if you want it to last your contract period as it will go wrong! Too many of these reviews are a 'first impression' and to be fair, i would have given it 4/5 stars a year ago, after 1 weeks worth of use, but after a year, i'm afraid I feel slighty let down by Sony Ericsson and will have to consider a brand with better build quality when i renew my contract. Reviewed by Mike McDade on 06/08/2008 One of, if not the best phone I've ever had. Owned mide for over a year and still come back to it now. Exelent camera to the point of rivaling the images some of the current 5mp phone cameras produce. Good battery life(I lock mine in GSM mode), almost a week between charges. Music player not quite as good as the Walkman range but not far off. Is bigger than the current fasion slim phones but not to big, in my opinion it feels nicer in the hand then a lot of the overly skinny handsets(W880i for example). Rating:

Reviewed by Andy on 30/06/2008 I have used this phone for seven months now and I completely love this phone. It's durable, easy to use and not too flashy. Only problem is that the alarm is somewhat useless as it "gives up" after calling for a minute or so. But the only telephone I ever had that didn't do that was an old Nokia 3210. The phone has been through a lot, and still works great. The buttons were unusual, but you get used to it rather fast. The cam works swell for my use, and so does the mp3 player(though I would like a better equalizer). You wouldn't like the movie feature if you plan to screen movies but it works quite well being a phone and not a video camera. 3G works well, though I don't use it much. Video calls are few and far between, so I don't have much to say about them. The joystic actually still works, and though joysticks suck by default, it works quite well also. All in all, it's the best phone I have ever had. Rating:

The only thing i didn't like in the k800 is that the video quality was a bit dodgy. But k810 solved all that! Trust me, go for it, you won't regret it. Besides, it is better than any n series! Reviewed by Claire S on 13/06/2008 Overall, I can say that the K810i is a great phone but I m very dissapointed with the video quality. The resolution of the video is very poor each time when I played it. N73 was a better phone after all. N73 has a sharper images and higher resolution when taking pictures. The only thing is like about this phone is its design. Good job SE! And it doesn't seem to be any problem with its keypads nor its joystick. It is very smooth and user friendly too. The graphics are FANTASTIC so do the speakers! It was very clear! Rating:

The camera is great and the walkman function is great - other than that, i can't beleive i'm stuck with it for another 10 months!! I don't get a signal in my house, Anytime i try to download music the tunes won't unlock as the provider tells me that i have downlaoded from another phone and sends my authorisation elsewhere. Texts can take days to arrive esp picture messages, and the video function is not the best. I had to send it away for repair after only 3 months because a few of the keys stopped working!! I will not get another Sony mobile. I'll be going back to my Samsung as soon as my contract is finished. a big disappointment. Rating:
Reviewed by Al on 23/05/2008 Had Phone 6 months its generally an OK phone I find it has reasonably good ergonomics and features. The video recording quality is poor though and i bought it on the strength of the camera and video. This was foolish of me, if this is a main consideration for you I found my sons samsung 590 takes superior video in both picture and sound and was a great deal cheaper than the Sony. I got this phone on a contract with cashback I would not pay the payg price for this phone. Reviewed by Dan on 10/05/2008 What a great phone!. Had it nearly a week now, got used to the buttons (which were reasonably easy to use in the first place anyway). Had the W810i before which was one of the most reliable phones Ive ever had. This has pretty much the same music player (minus the Mega Bass feature) and is just as easy to use as the Walkman music players. There is no point in Walkman phones really, they just have a downgraded camera and the same features as the k-series phones. TrackId is superb too, a very strange feature when you first use it, I didnt believe it would ever work, but it has only had a hick-up on 1 song, which was a weird remix anyway. The FaceWarp feature is funny too, good laugh to stretch and pull people's faces about, without having to do anything, the software does it all for you. Battery life isnt superb, lasts 2-3 days of normal use and playing some music, so not bad I surpose, roughly the same as my old W810i. Camera is the best Ive ever had on a phone. It's just like a normal digital camera, flash is as strong as a normal camera, not like the 'photo light' on the W810i. Also has red-eye removal feature which is cool, havent properly tested that out yet but sure it will be just as good as the rest of the phone. My friend has the upgraded K850i, and oh dear is it awful. Try pressing one button and you end up pressing the touch pad bit and a number all at the same time. And it looks horrible too. If your looking at that, save yourself some money and get this. Only thing I really miss off of the W810i is the little light that was really handy if you find yourself in a dark situation. In conclusion, it's a chunky phone (which I like) that feels very durable and sturdy. It is packed with features and gives excellent sound and picture quality. Don't bother with Walkmans! They aren't as good and are constantly breaking (the newer ones I mean). If you are considering buying it, do it! Don't listen to these reviews that say how awful the phone is, it's getting cheaper now and, for the price, I don't think anything can compete. Rating:

Reviewed by Katie Maycock on 06/05/2008 I HATE this phone. I've had Sony Ericsson's for a few years and have always been really pleased but the one and only problem with this model is the central/main control button. It freezes, it doesn't move even though you press/move it 10 times in a row. And then when you think it's not working it springs into action and you end up sending texts you've not finished typing and to the wrong person. I can not wait for my contract to be up so I can get rid of it!! Rating:
Reviewed by Simon on 02/05/2008 This is the best phone that I have owned. Sure there will always be the odd rogue one out there and if you happen to have it then you are bound to feel a little annoyed. The camera is superb and as good as my 3MP dedicated Nikon. My daughter also has one and is equally impressed. Saying all that, the phone speaker (not the one on the rear)has recently gone fuzzy, but then being as I have dropped it a couple of times I can't really blame it. The menu system is good and easy to navigate. Thoroughly recommended. Rating:

Reviewed by Cosminus on 24/04/2008 I have it since 1 week. Not a bad phone. What I don't like: - baterry is to weak. Talk time is ~ 2,5h on a GSM network. Standby? Is loosing 20% battery life per 24h, without Bluetooth / Infrared activated. - navigation keys too small and difficult to operate. I loose operation speed because of these keys. - it is unable to ring also in handsfree (headset). In noisly environment you will not hear the phone ringing in the pocket and the earpiece kept in the ear is useless (is not ringing). - Sound quality in default headset. Comparing with Motorola Mpx 220 is bad. What I like: - The camera. For a phone camera ia amazing. Plus the xenon flash. The pictures are too good for a mobile camera. Is able to do good macro pics. - The software to process the pictures. It have plenty of options. - FM radio embeded. Usefull to hear the morning news on the way to office. - The mic. It send clear and loud voice to your partner. The downside is that in noisy env. the noise is heared loud too. Also the wind noise. - The look. Looks great an professional. The back side is fine covered with rubber giving a much better sensation than plain plastic and also a firm catch. Rating:

Reviewed by MB on 22/02/2008 I bought the red color one 3 days back. I found the features of this one quite impressive. I would rather say that it a 3g version of the previous w810 i model. The speaker of this phone is slighty low. I got used to of the buttons in a days time. The best feature is the camera which beats the other phones. If you are seeking a phone which has everything and at the same time a lot cheaper than the current nokia's floating the market then this is the best bet for you. i picked this one up during the holiday season, shelled out couple of bucks extra for the pouch, a blue tooth headset - hbh-pv702, and a 512 mb card. The bluetooth headset - HBH- PV 702 is a big let down, it is very uncomfy. This is the best phone in the market...with nearly half the price of a Viewty-LG, or N95. the sound quality is 5/5,camera is 5/5, looks and usebality is 5/5. Reviewed by Danielleeee on 19/02/2008 I got this phone as a birthday present in August and since then it has been brillinat :) I don't know how many times it has fallen out of my pocket, been dropped on the floor, kicked down the street or dropped in the bath and it has always stayed in tip top condition. Fair enough, it has a few scratches but it has never smashed or stopped working. The outside of it is very tough but it's not plastic. I can't quite put my finger on it but the closest thing I can describe it as is rubber. It feels soft and is great as if you have sweaty hands your phone doesn't go all greasy. The camera on this phone is amazing. I can never been bothered to carry a highly expensive, bulky digital camera around with me so this phone is brilliant. Photos are so clear and with many options such as frames, effects (including some very original ones such as cartoon!) and red eye removal. The videos are also very good. They are not as good as the photos but are still of brilliant quality and you can zoom right in. I took it on holiday with me to Lanzarote & filmed loads of stuff & took loads of pics & I have never ran out of memory. Texting on the phone is hard to get used to with the funny keys but when you get the hang of it its no problem. I love texting now as when using prediction mode there is a little mini scroll down screen which I find extremely useful. There are also little cute emoticons in place of :) :( :S :@ and some others. And alot of animated cartoons to add to your texts. Another thing great about this phone is how you can really personalize it. There are so many themes on it & you can always go to the sony ericsson site on your phone and download others for free. Rating:

Reviewed by Oli on 13/02/2008 This phone is attrocious, granted it looks quite cool but it has soooo many faults and seems to develop new ones weekly. i'm going to list hte faults in the order they occured. plese bear in mind that im not some idiot who throws his phone at walls or anything, this is just from normal usage over the 6 months or so i've been using it. firstly if you have what it deems to be too many texts (around 30) in your inbox/sent items, the whole phones functionality is slowed right up until u delete them. pushing on the keypad causes the body to squeak. the 6 key needs to be hit a random, indeterminate ammount of times before it works (terrible for texting quickly). calls often fail or sound drops off. and just today its decided that, even with full reception you need to try sending text messages at least 6 or 7 times before it stops telling u that its failed to send. if you want a piece of technology that works and wont give you a headache, avoid this piece of rubbish like t he plague. This k series comes with Symbian, Java and Flash platform, alternatively it never hangs or slows down. a question for all those who are looking for everything in your preferred Device, please buy a small laptop like XPS or just think once how many times do you really use features like word, adobe acrobat, etc, in your mobile. The screen is much clearer compared to other SE phones, and the software is very easy to navigate, simlar to samsung i would say. Only problems are the buttons really are a little fiddly but once you get used to them it is no problem, and the text messaging is a bit slow, im not really fast at typing but it cant keep up, bit annoying. It freezes, it turns on by itself, it turns off and won't turn on again. All these problems seem inherent in the phone. A couple of geeks I know have both thought it could be a software problem and suggested I check SE's site for updates. But how can you update a phone that is either frozen on white screen or dead, dead, dead? It has everything... too bad they can't be used because this phone is frozen or dead so often. A taxi driver saw me make a call on this phone when it was working. He remarked that his cousin has one and has had nothing but problems with it. As for the guy earlier who said he was accused of "squeezing" his phone... sorry, but it's SE who's putting the squeeze on us. You might be lucky and get a phone that works without problems. Just be warned and make certain what sort of guarantee you have and how long your phone will be in for repairs BEFORE you buy it. Sorry, Sony Ericsson, I hate you. As a music player it is a way too quiet, this really is not a good advert for the company that invented the walkman. The buttons are exellent also to use but if you are used to nokia texting it is all the wrong way around for me and takes some getting used to. Oh yes... I nearly forgot.... as a PHONE (which is what I actually wanted) It is totaly rubbish. In fact as a phone it is the worst I have ever owned, on full volume it is hard to hear ringing in your pocket, the text tone is even worse ( I end up retriving half of my texts when I either go to make a call or am setting the alarm at bed time) Even on hands free on the supplied ear piece it is way too fiddly as it has two ear pieces and that is a recipe for desaster when trying to put the device in ya ear while driving. If you dont put both in it is very hard to hear. If you want hand held entertainment it is ok but if you want a phone, buy a nokia and go to a camera shop and buy a 3.2 megapixel camera for less than £80. Reviewed by Wade on 06/11/2007 Guys seriously you need to research some more into these things. Comparing the quality of this 3.2mp camera on a PHONE as opposed to something twice the size which is actually MADE for taking pictures is just stupid. The lens of any proper camera will be of a far higher quality than phone camera always, PLUS megapixel, in case you didnt know relates purely to how big you can blow up a picture (i.e. how many pixels per square) so it shouldnt affect how good it looks on a phone screen - a 5mp camera will look worse than a 2mp camera with a good lens. Also, sony created this phone as an upgrade due to complaints regarding the small, close together buttons (hence the new ones) and the placement of these buttons (right down the bottom), so those complaining and whingeing about how sony should not have bothered bringing it out, its just for commercial reasons, appealing to the majority etc etc - that said, my advice is DONT bother upgrading if you have a k800... its the s ame phone, just with better buttons - im sure sony did not intend previous k800 users to upgrade to this. On that note, i have a k800 and its really a great phone, smooth and simple, no stupid nokia interface (try finding a picture youve taken recently) or the motorola bu |
