I got my K610i second hand off my sister and to be honest it is not the worst phone I have ever had by but neither is it the best although it does have some pretty good features sugh as 3G Streaming Mobile TV and good apps. It handles 3D games quite well and the sound quality when listening to music through the built in speaker is loud and clear. I have small fingers anyway so the keypad is not too much trouble for me but I can see how it would be hard for someone with larger fingers to use as the keys are placed very close to eachother. The picture quality is not too bad although it suffers in poor lighting conditions. The front mounted camera is also good for making video calls and taking photos of yourself. There are a number of decent apps for this phone such as Google Maps and GPS style programs. There are 1000s of games available and most of them are quite enjoyable. It handles 3D racing games very well although once again the keypad might let this down if you have larger fingers. It is a good phone and I have enjoyed using it. If you want a simple to use phone and have a limited budget then this is a great purchase. Mike

I got this phone at Christmas about 2 years ago, it is a brilliant phone. Camera isn't really good, but texting and surfing the net is great. In the last few months it has started to shut down or freeze during texting or calls.....but that's probably due to me keep dropping it. Definitely recommend it for someone who does not want something flashy or too big.

I like my K610i despite having it a tendency of 'freezing' which ends up with me removing its battery and re-starting it again. Sometimes it freezes when i quickly scroll down the names in the Address Book. Except for the Portuguese manual (which i do not understand) the K610i is a durable phone that has survived many falls. May be a change in the design of the key pad can benefit some of us with big hands Thupgas@yahoo.co.uk (Botswana, Africa) +26771658174 (cell)

Was OK in the beginning but after 18 months it started to switch off when receiving/making calls. It was mended 3 times with software updates (i.e. losing all the contacts and games from the phone). Several times was without network in roaming while another phone from Samsung (with the my SIM card) found the roaming network. Switches off as soon as digiting the PIN code in normal mode but not in flight mode. Games freeze up. Always connect to the internet aggressively that you can not even cancel. Very slow and inconvenient at using the internet.

It turns off by itself about 7 times per day, deletes photos and music by itself, does not charge properly, it's WAY TOO chunky, doesn't show my missed calls, messes around with my contacts list & generally it's just VERY difficult to text with because the keys are so small and hard to press... and I have very small hands!!! I DEFINATELY reccomend that you DO NOT buy this phone. it's a waste of $200!! It is terrible quality.

I have had this phone for over a year now and i think it is very good. The camera is brilliant for a 2 megapixel. The menu is easy to use, voice dialling is good, memory is good but that is compared to a really bad phone that i had previously, at the moment i have 160 pictures and 9 long videos on it, but can only fit about 6 songs on it. So it's not too bad, i can also use my songs as ringtones. After having it for a year however it is starting to turn itself off randomly so i have to keep checking it, and also it goes onto the internet by itself, but that has only been a couple of times. The sound is also good. You can download themes i think (haven't done it but it looks like there is a link to it) Battery life is also quite good, but i don't listen to music everyday on it. Overall i tihnk it is a very good phone and worth buying.

I have had this phone for 18 months and have just got used to the small and fiddly keys... the lack of a flash hasnt bothered me at all, and as for the shutting down for no reason, I found this was caused by the battery becoming loose and no longer connecting. Usually this was caused by movement in my pocket etc and I solved this by getting a small piece of plastic from a yoghurt pot and sliding it between the bottom end of the battery and the phone! No other problems though and a very sturdy phone (It has survived falling down the stairs twice and being dropped/ thrown on numerous occasions)

I bought the K610i, and overall, I love it to bits, but I have to say that it's 100% true about all the shutdowns! Indeed, that's it's biggest letdown! The other one was the problem of there being no flash for the camera. Again, very disappointing, as my previous model (the K750) had pretty much the same features, yet it didn't shut down, the camera was better quality, and it had a perfectly good flash!! In fact, I was horrified when they told me that the K750 is now a discontinued model! But the K610i was indeed the closest to it, and it does have a few really nice added features! (one of which being able to make video calls, (for this it included another front-mounted built-in camera) and the other was the way you can set alarms. The K610i allows you to set several alarms, and even lets you display a picture when the alarm sounds (which I found pretty neat!) I believe if the best features of the K610i and the K750 were combined, then Sony-Ericsson would have come up with the best phone! (at least for me, anyway!) Let me know if this ever happens!!

My brother did the same, for the same fault, but recieved his old phone and a new charger saying the fault had been fixed. It had not been fixed at all! He sent it away again this time he recieved a new phone. I had my phone exchanged on 2nd june, which meant i receieved a new phone and gave them my old, on my doorstep. However I didnot recieve a new battery! which was rather strange as this was most probably the proble m. on 4th june my phones key pad created a mind of its own and constantly seemed to think the top right hand button. This meant the phone was nit useable, or you had to tolerate it for a very long time to do anything. I rang 3 to be put through a process of procedures. I told the guy there was clearly a fault, as between me and my brother we had 4 phones which had been faulty. He argued with me there wasnt, and now reading these reviews I can see there is a fault. I now have to send my phone away again, most probably to recieve another faulty brand new one! 3g will not replace my phone for a totally different one of equal or lesser value, why when it is just costing them money? in my opinion these should be recalled and withdrawn from the market, as they are neither use nor ornement!!!! DO NOT BUY!!!!!

Nice basic phone, I got a free white one from 3 UK and it does what I expected. Decent screen, voice quality and sturdy feel. It also makes a decent MP3 player especially now that M2 cards are so cheap. Sometimes it doesn't notice it has lost 3G coverage area and won't roam to orange UK 2G without a manual selection or power off/on. I'd have liked an option to force '2G only' to avoid this as I rarely use 3G services. I too had the problem with the phone shutting down, sometimes causing me much annoyance. I called 3 support and the guy suggested removing the M2 memory card, so right away I gave up on that source of help! I removed the battery and bent the little contacts in the battery compartment slightly outward with a tiny screwdriver to increase the pressure on the battery contacts, and after 2 months of use it hasn't shut down once!

Aside from it's rather boring and plain outside, the actual phone has a great quality screen and a camera of reasonable quality, even if it is minus a flash which can be annoying at times. However, i agree with many of the other reviews which say that it has a tendency to turn itself off - i have experienced this multiple times, much to my annoyance. Another bad point is that the battery does not seem to last long at all - i can't go for two days without charging the phone as it will completely run out of battery. Overall good phone, not the best.

But the keyspads are too small, making it inconvenient to write your text msgs. The speaker is located at the back making the sound muffled when its in supine position and the 2 MP camera is not that impressive. Nokia phones with 2 MP definitely have better resolution. On top of that, my phone just bugged down, something to do with upgrading the system. It was more of a hassle than a convenience

In terms of compactness, this is the best phone I've had. It serves my purpose well as I use it for calls and contacts only. I have had the dreaded 'auto-shutdown' problem too but found that you can resolve this for about 6 months by doing the following: 1. Back up everything to your PC using the SE PC Suite. 2. Fully charge the battery. 3. Perform a 'Master Reset'. 4. Remove the battery and keep the on/off button pressed for 30 seconds (full discharges). 5. Upgrade the software using SE's upgrade software. 6. Reload your contacts, notes, photos etc. This seemed to work for me and gave me another 6-7 months of trouble free usage. I also put some stickers around the edges of the battery to ensure that it is a snugger fit.

The terminals at the bottom of the phone corrode and need cleaning every 6 months or the phone will not charge. During charging the charger gets loose and falls out, as the phone has aged it has become more temperamental it turns off ,very frequently or freezes. the k610i also refuses to get reception and needs to be rebooted to search again. the buttons stick and the case can dismantle in my pocket if i go for a jog. im so put off sony ericson i will ensure never to recomend one to anyone or even consider one for a future phone.

This a great cheap phone with some very useful functions that gives many other brands a run for their money. Really, the battery life is outstanding, certainly sooooo much better than my Nokia N95 which even with everything turned off seems to die after less than one day of use. With the K610i I have been a whole week without needing to recharge. The walkman software is pretty good, the sound is excellent (again much better than the noisy nokia n95) and i guess i got one updated version, because I never had to reboot or anything. Solid as a rock. Construction quality wise, I should say it peels off extremely easy, and it looks awful from the first week. But still working flawlesly. Keypad is tiny and not essentially responsive, but works well. The only thing that is totally disapointing is the horribly, painfully slow usb connection to upload music to the memory card. It is pathetic, a total shame. Forget about uploading it fast when you are about to leave for work. You will be fired before a complete mp3 album has finished uploading, that's for sure. Still it is a great phone, probably the best I ever had. The most stable (try to use a n95 for more than 2 days without rebooting), and certainly an excellent value. Sure, it is ugly as hell, but I bought it in july 2007 and i would choose it a hundred times better as my "lost on an island phone" over my n95. (N95 is pretty neat, nice pictures, lovely GPS and most of all WIFI, but for the price the k610i is a much more solid pice of gear)

As from the aesthetic point of view, the phone is great, but only until you use it for 2 months and if you don't have a protecting case, say goodbye to the color of your phone. I now have it for more than 6 months and as many of other people I had problems with random self Shutdowns. The solution is simple and it involves only "one battery" long piece of paper to be squeezed on the left side of the battery to prevent the battery movement. This is what coses the shutdowns. The bigger problem I am experiencing right now: MY BATTERY WONT CHARGE! I guess I will have to take it back to the dealer. I found a semi solution, but it can't last forever: i can charge the battery in some other phone. The problem is, that when you do so in a SE phone that has a smaller battery capacity (700mAh for instance)the battery will charge only to that level. When you reinsert your battery in k610i and after the battery is half used and try to charge it in k610 it tells you, that you have "Alien battery"!!! WTF?!?!?! It still gets fully charged and works OK, but i discharged it completely and now the problem is back... again i can not charge it in my phone!

Again same problem as everyone else, my phone turns itself off at least twice a day which is not great. However just read a post on another site saying that its because there's a tiny amount of movement in the battery compartment so it breaks the connection sometimes. They suggested putting a bit of paper underneath the battery to reduce the space for movement. I've only just tried it so haven't seen the benefits yet, but worth a go if you've got a while to go on your contract and like all other aspects of the phone.

They both began to shut down automatically. My wife's isn't reliable at all so we have had to go to an old phone until our contracts are up. Mine isn't as bad but is slowly getting worse. SE needs to look at this problem as I see a lot of other posts with tey same problem. It would be a great phone otherwise.

Okay So i have had this phone for the last 15 months and now its my time on my contract to upgrade it. However its actually a really good and reliable phone. over the last 15 months i have had hardly any problems. the only major problem i had was it just wouldnt turn on.(proberlly due to me and my clumsyness..keeping on dropping it)however i sent it off and they sent me a brand new one back. that is the only problem i have really had. the screen did go blank a couple of times. but its nothing to be disheartened about and is definatly not a reason to not get this phone.it is so easy to use and is quite a cute phone. okay the camrea is not as great as the camreas on phones now. but once again it is nothing to complain about. Overall i am really pleased with this phone. and would recommened it to anyone.

My K610i looks great, has brilliant features and is exactlt what I want in a phone. However, it's driving me mad with it's unpredictable behaviour... I carry it in my pocket, and despite the lock being on, I regularly take it from my pocket to discover that the lock has disabled itself and it has dialled onto the internet... it's costing me a fortune on PAYG. It's also twice dialled people from my phone book (after it somehow disabled the lock while in my pocket) and put them on speaker phone when it's received an answer - it's pretty worrying to have your phone ring your mother-in-law and then have her disembodied voive shouting "hello" from your trouser pocket! It's latest trick is to switch itself off - again overcoming the lock to do so. As for receiving a signal... my old phone (a K700i) received a signal in places this one say's none is available. Others at Work with different Sony Ericsson's get a signal while I don't, and when I do get to talk to someone, the volume of the call is poor compared to the old K700i. So - do I like the phone? Sometimes. Will I stick with it? Not for much longer. Will I buy another Sony Ericsson? Don't know - and all I've had for the past 5 years have been Sony Ericsson's because I love their looks / style / functionality and until now, reliabillity. Sony Ericsson had bettermake something I can trust for my next phone, or I'll seriously look at the competition...

Either way I won't be using T-mobile after contract finishes - or Sony phones. I agree with other reviews, bad battery life, kept turning off and keys not working, or keys keep clicking without touching them. Incidently, once you order a phone from T-mobile, if it doesn't work, you can only get replacement phones of exactly the same kind. I asked for any old Motorola they had in stock and refused to supply anything but K610i. Steer clear of both

When I first got this due to a great deal on 3 I couldn't help feeling dissapointed. I previously had a w800i walkman phone and there was less memory, no autofocus or flash on the camera, and no radio. However having now owned it for a few months I have to say that it nothing short of brilliant! The reception is brilliant, nearly always have 3g reception and in the few areas where there isn't there's a good 2g signal. The sound quality, a dissapointment on normal settings is brilliant for a phone once you tweak the equaliser and the whole thing is a doddle to use. Texting is brilliant, the internal speaker is clear for voice calls, the camera's quite good for a phone (the w800 autofocus was better but never good enough to replace my digital camera so not such a bad omission), java is brilliantly supported, and its been as reliable as a swiss watch. After an SPV 500 smartphone I'm pleased to own a phone rather than a computer. The whole thing just feels like its been designed to use as a phone and add an M2 1GB card for about £40 and its an ipod replacement too. Only two downers, slightly poor battery life on 3g (was to be expected), and no radio. But pop onto ebay and you can get a handsfree kit that doubles up as a radio for less than a tenner. And did I mention that is from sony, stereo, looks the part with its illuminated blue screen and automatically switches off when you receive a voice call. Problem solved. I previously wrote a review saying the loudspeaker sounded tinny for music! Tweak the equaliser and its one of the best available! So the comment no longer applies. Why sony decided to put it on such awful default settings is anyones guess but doesn't take much effort to get it sounding very good for a mobile;ive already left 1 message but it rated 5 stars when it should have been 1

There are loads of comments on here about the K610i switching off unexpectedly. I'd been put off buying one until I saw a comment on another forum about a solution to the problem. Essentially, there's a small amount of play in the 'battery bay' where it can come away from the contacts if jolted. This would also explain why some people can't turn the phone on again. The solution involves placing a thin sliver of card between the bottom of the battery and the phone casing, which holds it in place nicely. After I saw this I went down to my local T-Mobile shop and bought one a few days ago. It hasn't misbehaved yet but if it does at least I know how to fix it. Good luck.

Well brand new battery made no difference, only good thing now is I have two batteries and can change them when the battery died in the middle of a phone call when I was out (of course). Even turning Blue Tooth off made no difference. My SE is back in the shop for repair, 3 hour round trip to get it there! (Im in Australia). Warranty runs out Im told in November on the second replacement phone, dispite getting it new in March. My original contract date is November....obviously 3 who Im with are worried about repairs so play that to their advantage. Also...in with 3, the manual which came with it was very bare, the globe icon on the phone screen normally indicates that you are connected to the internet, but it never goes off! Hey! I was reading the review and I also had the same problem of auto shutdown! Initially I was thinking that it might be a battery problem and was even planning to get a new battery. But seems like it's a problem with the phone itself. Nevertheless, this is quite an acceptable phone given that it is a 3G phone. But I feel that SE should look into the problem of auto shutdown. It happens to me whenever the weather is cold or I happen to shake it. Don't tell me hp also has a temper??

OK, i need to set something straight! Ive had this phone for just under a year now and it is a brilliant piece of technology! People saying it freezes and wont start have definitely had faulty ones because i have had no such problems! However that said mine has automatically restarted itself about 8 in a year which isn't bad at all! This phone's great great camera, mp3 player, expandable memory (i bought a 512mb memory card for mine for not much). Also, with this thing about the keys being too small is just rubbish because my fingers are above average size and this keypad is great for quick texting! Oh also tis phone has also been thrown and dropped countless amounts of times and lived to tell the tale with only minor denting and scratching to surface, so its incredibly robust! All in all a fantastic phone and I have had a great phoning year from this baby and I just hope my next phone (hopefully will be getting soon) will live up to this one. A useful tip: Turn of the 3G-network and use only the GSM net, saves A LOT of battery. Also, I would like to be able to add peoples birthday even if they not have a phonenumber. Otherwise its a nice phone, but if your not priceconsius buy 7xx or 8xx-series to get autofocus, lenscover and radio. A proper flash I mean- not the rubbishy LEDs that try to pass themselves off as flashes. And as for the shutting down problem- I haven't noticed anything of the sort. Occasionally (when I drop it) It'll throw a small hissy fit and reboot itself, but I've had other phones that have done that (Motorola E1 ROKR, for example). Definitely worth the money, I'd say.

I bought my K610i in July last year and it was ace - a massive step up from the last phone I'd had, but by March 2007 it had died. Literally. It went through a stage of switching itself off at random intervals, and then became increasingly difficult to switch back on again...until it finally refused to altogether! I lost all my photos, videos and messages as it stores everything onto the phone itself, so all I had left were some numbers on my SIM card which were all out of date by then anyway. Gutted. Definitely not worth the money.

I have had a Sony phone on T-Mobile 2 years ago and I was very happy with it. I then got another Sony from BT and that was perfect. Naturally when it came to change my phone last time, I opted for another Sony (K610i) and it is from "Three" including a good package of 500+100. I was quite pleased to have got myself such deal, until I started using the K610i, only to discover that at least once a day it switched itself off. Then it started doing this more often and what's worse is then you could not switch it back on. Some times you would have to leave for an hour or so with the battery out, before it would switch back on. All along this phone would run out of battery in less than 24 hours being on standby. I complained to "Three" and they said they would repair it (not replace it). I could not send it away and I was very upset that they would not according to the law offer me a replacement. This was in December 2006 and following Christmas they told me that I had run out of the 10 days return period anyway. Then matters got worse. It started to loose reception and lost NETWORK and could not keep the manually selected Network, and came up with the message "USIM DISACTIVATED, CHECK SETTINGS AND IF THIS PROBLEM PERSISTS REFER TO VENDOR". By now I started using one LG phone I had and it has been working perfectly. I have sent this unit back to "Three" twice now and first time they said the Firmware had to be upgraded during the course of which they locked all the other Networks that this phone could connect to. Second time they have said they cannot find any fault and keep telling me “our very qualified engineers have tested the unit and could not find any fault”. So now they are not prepared to book this phone in for any repair any more. Well it seems I have paid £120 to "Three" for absolutely nothing. I am most disappointed and would do my best to discourage other people to get service from "Three" or get any Sony Ericsson K610i. I would like to rate the phone very negative but it seems the lowest rating is one star (poor). I do not see this phone worthy of getting the title of "star". I am going to write to Sony as well.

Only drawback I'd say with the web is that it a) it doesn't download any media players so you can view certain websites or listen to music on an online radio station. And b) some web pages don't entirel fit on the screen and you can't scroll across to read the rest of the info. Hopefully with technology advancing day by day then there will be an eventual design like that from Sony Ericsson, but for now I am content with this phone as it does do the basic web surfing.

But the firmware has a few bugs, when I tried to delete my calls list it got stuck so I needed to take off the battery and put it back but when it turned on I saw it deleted the calls. Hi, I got this phone today and I LOVE it! This is my first Sony Ericsson so it's taking a while to get used to but apart from that I'm very happy with it. The two million mega pixel camera is very good and it's great how you can transfer yours pics onto the computer via the USB cable. There's also good photo editing software on the phone which lets you edit your photos + add clip-art before you upload your pics to computer. Great sound quality too- only let down is lack of space on memory card for music so I'm thinking about buying a card with a higher storage capacity. Fantastic Phone! xx

I have had the switching off by itself problem (3-4 times a day and getting worse). I resolved this by cleaning the battery terminals and putting piece of card at the bottom of the battery which forces the battery harder against the terminals. I also pulled the phone battery terminals out very slightly with some point nosed pliers although this may not have made any difference. The fault has not retuned for over a week now. I was working on the assumption that not all faults have to be complicated or software related.

The battery life on it is super and the screen is large and bright. Its size is great and i fits into your pocket without any trouble. The camera is sharp and clear. The only thing that will stop me giving this phone 5 stars is that iff you are listning to music on it the battery goes down very quickyly and you can only get about 25 songs from it but if you are not lisning to music the battery is extreamy good lasting for about 6 day at most. Considering my previous phone was a Nokia 6230, (which is a truly wonderful phone may i add) this phone had alot to live up to, but although it took a while to adjust erganomicaly to the sony ericsson configuration, it has passed all challenges with flying colours and has gone beyond the previos benchmark set by the nokia phone. The aplications stored on the OPM (onboard phone memory) are exceedingly good with beautiful graphics displayed by the 262k TFT display. I was a happy k750i owner. when the opportunity arose I looked through the range on offer and this seemed the closest thing to the 750i, with the design flaws fixed: 1. no joystick (dust issues, stopped working in majority of 750i's including mine) 2. no stupid plastic cover for memory stick 3. no fiddly catch over the phone camera which turns the camera on/off wasting batteries etc 4. slightly lighter and slimmer due to clever design, tapered edges etc 5. updated software faster firmware etc so far so good. had it for a week now and no problems. yes the keys are a little bit smaller, you'll just have to test these out in the shop before you buy it. haven't had it reboot. the review is right in saying that it doesn't excel in any one area, but for me having a phone which looks great (minimalistic design, why aren't there more phones out there that don't go for this look?!), works great, has a decent camera, music, screen, 3G.. that's enough.

I’ve had my K610i for 4 months now and I still think it’s a great little phone. It’s attractive to look at (mine is in white) and very tactile to use. All my comments I made in my 14th November review still apply today. The PC software is a little fiddly to install -- I can live with 6 different pieces of hardware needing to be installed but only if I’m warned what to expect at the start of the process. Otherwise you think that the process is over after the first one is done. Also, when transferring music files to the memory card via Windows Explorer, when you delete the file it no longer shows but is still taking up memory on the card. I needed to reformat the card to get rid of the phantom files. I think it is better to delete files in phone mode and that’s what I do now. I’ve never had any serious freezing problems, maybe I’ve just been lucky with mine. On one occasion when accessing the call register via the soft key it didn’t show some numbers that I knew had been in use but a week or so later it went back to normal all by itself and it has never done it again. So all in all, I have confidence that the phone will work as I want more than 99.9% of the time but I accept there have been occasional hiccups. One of my colleagues also has one, on 3 network. (No problems with his yet, either) With 3, the way the keys have been configured and the icons named is not as flexible and user friendly as with my one on Virgin, who have pretty much left the original layout alone. I still think of this phone as a well thought out and thoroughly practical tool. It’s got everything I want apart from an FM radio, and it does everything else so well that it makes up for the omission. For the money, it’s a lot of phone and I’d certainly consider getting another if my one had to be replaced today.

Keypad not the biggest, but i have had no problems and im a largish guy. Just a few issues with pressing the top buttons by accident and exiting/going on net by mistake. Camera works well, photos look good on the screen. Havent tried on a PC, but really it's a phone not a 6mp camera jeez.
