Sony Ericsson K310i Review

Rating:
Date: 13/11/2006
The K310i by Sony Ericsson is a good entry level camera phone; it weighs just 82g and is a smart design. The covers are changeable which means that you are able to personalise the way your phone looks to suit your style.
The K310i has a basic VGA camera and video which is typical for an entry-level phone. The display has 65k colours and a resolution of 128 x 160 pixels and is not a TFT, which is below average compared to other models such as the K600i.
This phone has an MP3 player, but the small amount of internal memory means that only a small number of songs can be stored. It only has 15 MB of internal memory and disappointingly no option to extend this with a memory card.
The K310i has MP3 and 40-voice polyphonic ringtones meaning that it can play 40 notes simultaneously. Compared with other phones in this price range this feature is very good.
The phone's connectivity includes USB and Infrared but unfortunately does not support Bluetooth.
You can connect to the internet with this phone using GPRS which is an adequate transfer speed. However other phones within this budget have much faster data speeds using 3G or EDGE.
The standby time for this phone is one of the highest within its price range offering up to 360 hours.
The phone's operating frequency is tri band allowing it to work in both Europe and America.
Overall this phone is above average as you get some good features for the price you pay.

Features of the Sony Ericsson K310i include:

  • Camera: VGA, 4x digital zoom
  • Video Camera: Video Clip, Video record
  • Display: 65,536 color UBC (ultra bright color), 128x160 pixel
  • Music Player: MP3, AAC
  • Media Player
  • Java Games
  • Ringtones: Polyphonic
  • Connectivity: Infrared, USB
  • Memory: 15MB internal memory
  • Messaging: SMS, MMS, Email
  • Internet: GPRS, Access NetFront™ Web browser, Modem
  • Operating Frequency: GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz
  • Size: 101 x 44 x 17 mm
  • Weight: 82 g

After being used to the simple Samsung, I find the joystick thing awkward as it seems to just do what it wants (maybe this is me being a novice). It does what you expect a phone to do, but as far as the camera and mp3 player go-DON'T buy the phone for these. They both fall short. I can store about three tracks on the mp3 player and the camera quality is poor. HOWEVER I paid just £50 for this phone, and it has already been money well spent, so if you're looking for cheap and reliable with a few extras then this is the phone for you

such a bad phone, not loud, doesnt have bluetooth, you cant put in a memory card even though it has very limited memory, camera isn't good at all, yuu need to pay for games, or play a free trial, internet connection doesnt work either, its too fat as well, not worth £50, i tried to sell this phone, but it could only be worth £4.98 when i paid more than triple that, and infared connection isnt good either. :/

,.hi i just drop by to this page to give you guys some informstion about the sony ericsson's k310i. hey,let me tell you it's pretty good ive been using mine for 3years now the only damage i can see is the housing of the phone it's really dull of course after 3 years of using this that's natural. but let's talk about the features the signal of course the k310i is very friendly even if it sucks sometimes just request for a signal then you're there.soo fast... though the camera is confusing it still shoots good sometimes with places with enough light on. you can also record videos longer ..than with the other models like this.. its easy to press the only frustrating part is the joystick all were having a hard time navigating the joystick.. me too..al i can say is its a good phone ...and the battery? ohh you'll pray that all the batteries of your phones are like this one..very useful in outdoors & if you like to play your mp3 files often.. thats it thank you for reading ...

It is simple to use but they is no pick up or hang up keys which is quite hard to get used to. The memory is apauling, less than 70 contacts very few pictures and one song is all that is needed to fill up the memory. I ended up deleting all aprt from two locked games and nearly all the themes. The camera is quite frankly rubbish. the battery is rubbish as well

I've had a K310 for 18 months - I've dropped it, soaked it, covered it in gunk, and it still works (and the battery holds a full charge still). Considering this, it's good the covers can be replaced (but sadly, you have to retain the same joystick, which on mine has been chipped beyond belief). Yes, it's basic, and I'd have loved expandable memory, but if you want a (relatively) rugged phone that makes calls & takes basic pictures then this phone is almost unbeatable. I've only replaced it with a w200 so that I can play music (it's basically the same phone).

This was my first ever phone, I LOVE IT!!!! Sure, the memory fills up quickly, mind you, I do have 138 photos,33 recordings (most of wich are over 3mins long,22 proper ringtones, 13 vidios, 10 games (6 of wich are demos that came with the phone that I am unable to delete)........ It has been my constant companion for 1year 16 days now (I know, im sad!) but it is starting to fail on me abit now and im starting to look around. Its brilliant for a first phone or for a grown-up who is looking for a cheap buy with all the every day needs. The only let-down for me is, that now im in highschool, you tend to get picked on if you dont have bluetooth.... every one just jumps to the conclushon that you have it, then, when you say you dont, they give you such a discusted look as if to say 'you ******* ******' that makes you instantly want to punch them in the face to stick up for your poor little K310i..... or is that just me? Thats its only letdown really, I dont want to critisize it any more, i feel really bad like im neglecting it when I do that..... Or is that just me agen? I see phones as living things with feelings, I know, its sad..... poor Dana, spends her days talking to little elictronic devices that never talk back....

Right, a bit of background. For the last three years I have been using a mixture of Windows Mobile Smartphones for work [XDAs of various generations] and my last job change scuppered the 'free works contract' so I was back to my 'personal' samsung E720, which I used as a bog standard call/SMS device. However, my current job provided me with an HP iPaq RW6815 handset to pop my own, personal SIM in. So I have been using the windows mobile device - with wifi, bluetooth, GPRS, SD memory, etc all the bells and whistles for a while and it started seriously annoying me by locking up at bad moments, like when trying to enter DTMF tones for Phone Banking etc. This is A Bad Thing and generally something that afflicts most Windows Smartphones at some point, but when they were being paid for entirely by work, I didn't mind too much. I picked up a second hand K310i on a whim after the iPaq shafted me repeatedly when trying to top up my SIM card and I had to borrow my brothers handset to actually get it working. Verdict - as a standard handset, available in most second hand mobile shops for about £20, you really, really can't go wrong. Yes, it has sod all memory, but I have an MP3 player for music. No, it won't play full length movies, but I have a PC for that. What it does do, and rather well, is allow you to make and take calls, SMS, MMS [including video] with a minumum of muss and fuss. It's genuinely pleasant to use, quite fast, and the SonyEricson OS thingy that powers it is generally good to navigate around and 'makes sense' in the way that Samsungs OS quite plainly doesn't. My only real gripes are that the camera isn't terribly fast [hardly expected on a cheapo phone] but to be honest, it's usable enough, and the screen is a bit 'blurry' with moving images, thanks to it not being a TFT screen. I would have liked Bluetooth, but I thought my laptop had IrDA so I ignored that. Oopsy! These really are minor gripes though. Put it this way - if you want a basic phone with some nice extras, a good operating system and no real issues, then get yourself a K310i second hand. I really can't find any *genuine* problems with it, and not just for the money, but full stop. This is my first SE phone, and if the build stands up to the abuse I'll give it, I will probably get another SE phone in the future.

This phone has lasted a year and a half but its memory was a bit of a pain. The screen and camera got fairly scratched. However i dropped it about 15 times and it hasnt caused any terrible damage. After about a month of buying the phone the back starts to fall off all the time. Lastly a couple of the keys stopped working and the bottom fell off but all in all it was a good phone if you needed to text and call!!!
