Reviewed by Mark Anderson on 24-12-2004 Where do I begin? I'll go down the spec list. I upgraded from a Nokia 3310 earlier this year, It was a good move! The screen is sharp, bright and clear, characters are easy to read and fast enough to display animated gif images. The camera takes surprisingly good pictures, and at quite high resolution for a phone, although it's not a camera, it's a gimmick of course. The video is great fun, although a bit blocky, the 3gp format has to be that way though, so be it, it's only a phone! Sound recorder is fun and useful, and recorded sounds can be used as alarm signals. The MP3 is ok, but hell, it's only a phone! one thing I was disappointed about is that you cannot use MP3 sounds as ringtones. Polyphonic ringtones appear to be General Midi (GM) standard compliant, which is a good thing, Millions of free (Yes, really free) MIDI files are available on the net. The melodyu composer is a little limited, but it's fun. (I think fun is the key thing these days, rather than functionality) I haven't got into multimedia messaging yet, But I'm sure its 'fun'. Picture phonebook will show you a picture of who is calling, a feature I like. In fact, the phonebook can store more than just a name, number and a picture. Addresses and emails can also be stored, a proper little personal organiser it is. The only connectivity I personally use (and need) is infra red, so the lack of bluetooth doesn't bother me in any way (It's what the owner NEEDS, that's the thing) I connect to my laptop computer to send and recieve video/pictures/animations/themes. Great. It's a good size and it very light for what it is. The one thing I would change if I could is the little joystick navigator. I would have much preferred the four arrow buttons and a centre key system. It means having a hole in your protective case for the stick/knob to protrude, and is it ever in the right place? I think not. Out of the case, the stick is seriously more easy to work, but it aint easy. All in all, I really love my new phone. Rating:
