Reviewed by Carlos Brazil on 21/02/2009 I used to be a fan of Sony Ericsson mobilles, but this one, for 900 dollars was really a big disappointment. I already sold it as used cellphone for $ 450. The navigation key is damaged after one month, the battery lasts less than a Day, and the cover of the camera lenses is really low quality material. I put it in my pocket and the cover just folded.... I'm now using my old Sony Ericsson 3.2mp until I find a new one for this year. C905 was a bad choice. Rating:

If anything i would say this phone was a downgrade despite having a better camera which i dont need anyway. Had the C905 seven days before it broke. Lost all of my contacts and buttons wouldn't work, software failure. Now on the second one and still waiting to see how long it will last!! If buying make sure you get a warrenty or insurance! I just upgraded to this and I was really happy with everything until I tried to use the GPS which won't connect I rang 02 who then spoke to sony erricson and apparently they said the GPS doesn't work on the 02 network? So does anyone have the gps working on 02? Thanks Rating:
Reviewed by Skitt on 18/02/2009 Not sure about this handset to be honest. The spec is fantastic and it keeps the standard SE operating systems menus. The problem for me was that I ended up having three of them in one week, all with the same issue...open the slide unlock function would not work. Call quality is great and wifi is definatly a bonus but why do SE not upgrade the screens 262,144 colours...come on Sony this is not keeping with modem mobiles. Personally I prefer to the C902, yes it has a lower spec camera but in the real world you don't notice this at all. Rating:
Reviewed by Emma Goddard on 17/02/2009 I upgraded in nov 08 from a samsumg e840 which was a rubbish phone. I am an orange customer which has never been a problem before but now I'm on my 4th sony ericsson c905 due to the earpiece being dodgy on the others....have had my newest one now for 3 weeks and am just waiting for the day that I can't hear the person that calls me! Glad I found this site though cos I got some ammo now when it next goes pear shaped :-) Apart from all that though it's a pretty good phone just a serious inconvienience that I have to keep saving my numbers back to sim (which i still don't know how!) and messing about all the time! Reviewed by Phil on 16/02/2009 I got this phone on contract from O2 as an upgrade for my K750i. I was particularly attracted by the 8MP camera and the GPS. Camera was quite good, but not that much better than the 2MP offering on my old K750i. The GPS was a nightmare to get working. I walked around Brighton for about 2 hours and it did not pick a GPS signal at all. When the phone did eventually pick up GPS signal it dropped it within seconds and would not communicate with Google maps. The best positional data I got was only accurate to within 1800 metres - totally useless. With a TomTom bluetooth GPS sensor my postion was shown almost instantly. I kept the phone for a week and returned it. I'm now back with my old K750i. If you just want a phone with a reasonably competent camera, fair enough. If you want a reliable GPS device look elsewhere. Rating:

Reviewed by Olivia on 16/02/2009 I do not own this phone personally but my best friend got one for Christmas. i really wanted this phone but im on contract so have to wait. However, since she got this phone not even 2 months ago it has had to been sent back to sony ericson as the speaker when you ring someone stopped working. She was without this phone for nearly 3 weeks. She got the phone back and it worked fine. However after about another month, it stopped working again. It is now being fixed. I really did want this phone as i've heard the camera is great. However, i am definetly going to look for a different phone after all the problems my best friend has had. Rating:
Reviewed by T on 14/02/2009 I got tis phone when it just came out. Within a couple of months I had problems like some others, with the ringing tone, as I could not hear the dialling tone, but when I put on speakerphone, I could hear it perfectly well. I sent for repair, It had exceeded it 28 days exchange guarantee, so they fixed last year over christmas, so everything was working fine. Then again in January the same problem with the speaker, I have got it repaired again for the 2nd time, and I am anticipating that less than 28 days it will not work again, what a great let down! Reviewed by Chris on 14/02/2009 Ive had mine around 3 weeks now and Im on my 3rd phone. The earpiece keeps going wrong, sounds like a wasp in your ear when talking to people. First two were exactly the same. Its quite disappointing as other than the problems, the phone is amazing. Camera is excellent. The menus, and the general look of the phone are brilliant. Best Ive had for a while now. Luckily enough, I bought mine from my local phone store, so if it goes wrong, i just get it swapped there and then, so no major issue. Hopefully SE will be releasing a fix for this common fault Rating:
Reviewed by Jack on 13/02/2009 Being a big SE fan, when time came to replace my K750i, I searched within their range for what would be my next logical choice. The C905 seemed to be just what I wanted and I went for it. Great phone, easy to handle, takes excellent pictures, keyboard is ok and overall I love it, but: -the speaker failed after less than a month - repaired and ok so far - WiFi reception is quite poor and while my notebook will get a very good signal all over my house, the phone certainly won't! -Video call with the camera on the back? Come on!!! -Not possible to open MS documents or PDFs without third party softwares. Unlike mentionned in a previous review, the SE web support works fine (here in Czech) so does the online firmeware upgrade, both great services. If the speaker does not fail again, then 4 stars! Keypad difficult to text with, battery life is poor - so are all these hi spec phones though, cant get wifi to work, video camera on back as described elsewhere so video calling a joke - and it is a very heavy phone. I gave up an N95 for this and I dont think it is as good - neither is as good as the K800i IMO. Rating:

Dropping calls, Battery life is unbelievable! 12 hours it lasts thats all! and i dont web browse! hardly text! it also has the tendancy to freeze! I did read some of the reviews on here but thought i would get it anyway and be the judge myself! Wish id listened now! Really bad move from SE. And im hating the slide! Why cant they bring out a newer phone, exactly same keypad as K750i minus the joypad, with a decent camera, and theyd have the perfect phone!!! Rating:
Reviewed by Tom on 02/02/2009 If it worked, it'd get a 5. As it is, and how I'm about to get my 3rd replacement in 4 months tomorrow because of the earpiece packing in, it gets a 2. However, I'd like to point out a post above mine - it was mentioned pressing 'c' solved the problem, and it actually does. I just got off the phone to Orange who are fantastic and arranged for another replacement, so I will get that and then bear in mind the 'c' solution for the future. Just made two calls and pressing 'c' really did work for me - try it! Fantastic phone, if it worked. Rating:
Reviewed by Bianca on 01/02/2009 Bought a C905 through Virgin mobile here in Australia. Absolutely loved it until I woke up one morning and it was dead. The battery had been dying every second day from start-up, which was disappointing to start with, but I could handle that. It now will not charge, will not start-up, nothing. Totally dead. Can't even get into it via USB to check that the most recent back-up is up to date. My first SE, have always had Nokias, don't think I will ever purchase one again. Very disappointing after waiting for new stock to be delivered to Aus as it was. Rating:
Reviewed by Lezfaz on 30/01/2009 Like - Reviewed by TJP on 13/01/2009 I too upgraded to the SE C905 and 33 days into my new contract the earpiece failed along with "sticky" navigation and "c" buttons. CPW sent it away for repair and it dissapeared into their black hole for 40 days - obviously so many being returned! In the end (they dont advertise) I was entitled to a replacement if my phone was not returned within 28 days. I received a replacement exactly 2 weeks today and my earpiece has broken again. Threatening to leave CPW after 12 years they say that they will give me a 3rd replacement, if that fails I can change my phone for another model. Dont be fooled by the 8.1mp camera either, my previous K800i took far superior pictures! I am paying a premium for a sub standard phone - do not buy or upgrade to this model! Rating:

Reviewed by guitarkidster on 29/01/2009 I fell in love with this phone but unfortunately turned out to be totally average. I will be receiving my third handset tomoro which will actually come out of my warranty after just 3 months. The first one the slider was bent and it had twists dents bends all over it. The second one had for 3 months and the 6 button doesn't work properly anymore. I try pressing it then it tries to activate the music player. I could get over the fact that the screen once again was a rubbish 262k one but nothin can compare to the relative identical image quality between my k810i and c905. I simply found that the sensor for the 8.1 mp cam was not enough for the camera of that size. If you buy this phone don't think the pictures will be of better quality just simply means they are bigger. I dunno bout you but i dont care for printing my pictures in a1 size I'm extremely dissapointed with SE the k810i is the best phone i ever had and i thought the c905 would be 20 times better. I have to say the build quality is appauling the duel slider is no good as there is too much clearance on it. I never thought i'd say this but the price is overated and it fell by £100 after just 2 months. I recommend you don't buy this phone i'm seriously considering getting an n95 either way the c905 will be being sold as soon as it arrives. I wanna know why SE is knockin these handsets out of some cheap chinese factory somewhere. The amount of faulty ones out there is just unreal and unacceptable. Rating:

Reviewed by spider mike on 24/01/2009 Hi, I have never felt the need to write a review until now. As a long time sony ericson fan I am disgusted at the 'lack of quality' of the new C905, this thing is everything except a PHONE. The handset's capabilities is more than matched by it's faults, I am on my 4th replacement in as many weeks and this Monday I will be demanding a replacement, preferably a handset that does'nt leave the user believing he or she has a severe case of tinatus. Reviewed by Mr Kev on 24/01/2009 After having a K800i for a couple of years, then a C902 for a day (before it broke and I took it back!!) I got a C905. Quality slide action, easy to use menu's that don't freeze (unlike the c902) and three weeks in no problems with the speaker as some have reported. The phone came with a 2gig memory card as standard so plenty of storage. Lots of nice things built in (that you won't use after a week or so of playing with your new toy). Then, the camera. One word - Awesome. Flash, quality of picture when blown up ease of use - it is simply fantastic. Thankfully, the video quality has improved from earlier version of Sony phones. Yes, some will say you can buy a better digital and have a different phone - well let them do that and carry two things around with them! Rating:
Reviewed by Ronnie on 23/01/2009 The c905 is a fantastic phone until one thing goes wrong. The "down" on the directional pad went numb and doesn't click anymore, it's annoying and frustrating. Rating:
Reviewed by Vince on 23/01/2009 Just got this phone about 2 weeks ago and first impressions are that is it fantastic. I had the SE w810i and that was a truly fantastic phone but i needed an upgrade. First all the functionality of the c905 is essentially the same as my old phone so that was great. Easy to use and relatively quick to load. The camera is great with the xenon flash and quality is better than expected since it's actually a phone. Flash is very bright which is good and bad (blinds people you are taking photos of) but you'll never have any problems with taking photos at night. The lense had a cool slide cover that merges into the phone. I know earlier phones had a massive cover that stuck out the back. This one is hidden perfectly and looks good. Comes with 2gig mem card so no worries about space for photos and music. The music player is good and quality is good so even though its a cybershot it works well as an mp3 player. The screen is really big at 2.4 inches and is crystal clear and it had motion sensors so will change from portrait to landscape when you move directions to view photos and web browsing. Wi-fi is good and stable and 3g seems to work but slowly, but probably due to slow australian networks. Ring volume is good and earpiece volume is good but vibration is quite soft which can be a little annoying. The slide mech is smooth and feels strong wouldn't break. The keypad takes getting used to as a lot of others have mentioned. The buttons are kinda all merged together so they don't have an individual feel to them. Texting is still ok though but i'm not a hardcore texter. Take note though people with finger nails may find it really hard to type with the space available with the keypad. Some bad things now. Battery life is very average. I get around 3 days with moderate use. Emailed SE about it asking where my 300+ standby time is with my battery as claimed by website and they told me to improve my battery life i should consider turning off my phone during the day when not in use.....how stupid....they gave me more suggestions that weren't as dumb as that which i already did but still bad battery life. Another one is when you unlock it when the keypad isn't showing you can't then lock it again. You have to slide the phone up and then down again to lock. Its not a big deal but slightly annoying. GPS is useless at doing what it's supposed to be do. Haven't read manual about it though but. Overall the phone is fantastic and looks fantastic in black. It's also got a nice rubber back which feels great in your hands. It's a little heavy but i like it that way. I've had no issues with the phone at all so if you are looking for a good functional phone buy this one. Rating:
Reviewed by Si on 22/01/2009 Very nice phone, when it works! As with everyone else's,my earliece has died.My screen has also had epic problems,it goes black and mulicoloured randomly.Sometimes it just packs up altogether. The battery life is pretty pants if you browse or use the phone a lot. Camera's fantastic IF the conditions are perfect, otherwise the pictures are decidedly average! If you get lucky and get a decent phone, its brilliant. If not, which seems to be the general concensus, then its a waste! Oh and don't bother with Vodafone, their customer service is appalling! Reviewed by Charlotte on 22/01/2009 I've had the phone since november now and I haven't had any problems with it at all, it's battery life isn't poor, it has lasted for more than 4 days whilst playing songs and when doing what normal phones do at the same time. The camera is brilliant and is better than the current camera that I have! Although, the pictures do take time to save. But one thing that is annoying is that I have to set internet settings when I go on the internet, on my other phones I've never had to do that before. I would recommend this phone though. Rating:
Reviewed by Kev on 22/01/2009 Would concur with a vast number of reviewers. This phone is a nightmare if you want to text people and actually have a 2 way conversation. Reviewed by Sarah on 21/01/2009 Only just received this phone yesterday (Orange upgrade) and before even registering the SIM, whilst transferring my numbers from my old SIM, the key-lock seems to have a mind of its own - locking and locking itself every other second - whilst the phone is slid-open. I think this is due to a faulty connection between the two main parts of the phone - they seem quite wobbly. The battery cover is also very 'plasticy' - not as robust as my SE K810i. Not impressed - hopefully not a sign of things to come. Rating:

Everything you can think of went wrong thats when i started to think SE hit rock bottom but then came the C905! What can i say about this phone? Its sexy but at the same time has a nice business style to it. Its packs an amazing 8.1 megapixels camera that (Touch wood) has NOT let me down once unlike the K850i, The keypad i find is nice and firm which for me makes it easy to text. the Slider works really smooth unlike some Samsung phones and the Screen is the best and brightest screen i have seen on a phone yet! I've had no problems with the sound and the battery last me a good 3 days with heavy useage before having to be charged again. So if your looking for a phone that has it all and wont let you down then this should be the one to go for! Rating:

Reviewed by Andrew Hurst on 14/01/2009 Had this phone for 4 weeks, and the speaker has just gone, other than that it is weird texting as the keys seem very stiff as previously mentioned, other than that the camera is faultless, the quality of the sound from mp3s is exceptional, build quality and feel is very good, so just those faults, not too sure whether it is linked to a particular batch or what but my replacement comes tomorrow so i shall find out. Oh and the battery lasts me up to 3-4 days even with moderate to heavy usage, might have somethin to do with draining the battery on arrival and then leaving it charging for 12 hours as batteries have a memory. Reviewed by ashbash on 13/01/2009 Deeply disappointed in my C905, bought it when it was launched in October. Earpiece has packed in leaving me unable to make or receive calls unless its on loudspeaker. I had the C902 before this and had nothing but trouble with it aswell, constantly freezing and switching itself off. I think it's time to switch back to Samsung, I love Sony Ericssons lay out and menu but my previous Samsungs never gave me any bother. Sony Ericsson should be ashamed of themselves, I paid £450 quid for a phone that I can't use and they are telling me I have to wait 8 weeks to get it back if I send it for repair and I have no replacement as my C902 is just as frustrating to use. Oh and while I'm moaning about it .... you need a steady hand while taking pics or they are all blurry, or is that just cos I drink too much alcohol? Rating:
Reviewed by Kelvin on 13/01/2009 I got my phone 1 month ago...total disappointment, totally!! The slider scratches the key pad, the battary life is terrible 24hrs max, buttons are hard, you can't use the gps without logging on to internet which is chargable, here comes the best part-It keeps hanging after 2 weeks until the 3rd week, it crashed. I send the phone back to the service centre and I have waited for more than 2 weeks and counting!! I requested for a new phone on my first email, but only got a reply on their third email saying" I'm sorry, we do not have a 1 for 1 exchange policy" I really dont understand why am I paying so much for such a rubbish phone. SE should recall all c905 that have the same problem as mine and replace with good ones. Rating:
Reviewed by TJP on 13/01/2009 DOn't buy this phone! Mine waited until 2 days after the 28 day replacement warranty and then the earpiece packed up. Has been back with carphone warehouse for over a month and I still have no idea when I will get a "repaired" phone back. Also the slider is too sensitive so often cuts off calls if you move it just slightly during a call... I wish I'd stuck with Nokia.... Rating:

Reviewed by Dara on 12/01/2009 I had this for a couple of weeks now - it's a very good phone. The features on it are good - clearly the camera is the big selling point and on this, SE have come up with a winner. By some distance the best I have seen on a mobile and a definite advance on the 5mp ranges in a way that the 5mp ranges did not really advance from 3.2mp. A number of other comments (and internet chatter) have talked about problems with the earpiece - fingers crossed this is not a problem my wife or I have found so far. It would be interesting to know where the phones with this problem were bought - mine is direct from o2. I would also say that I am baffled as to how so many people are having a hard time texting on this phone. There is nothing wrong in that regard. I can't really find too many downsides here. The battery life is not as good as my old K800, though it is certainly not bad. The battery seemed to get better after two or three charges and some of the comments written by people who have owned the phone for an hour may not reflect that. The screen on the phone is quite small. This is a bit of a personal point as one of the few really good features on my old G800 was the large screen. Of course, many people like a smaller phone. The other downside (I suppose) is that the phone is expensive, at least for the moment. That being said, this is a quality product I would say I have paid for quality. There is an issue here in how far are we paying for a phone and how far are we paying for a camera - at 8 megapixels I think we are coming to the limits of paying for a phone attached to a camera. This being said, this is a good product and I certainly have no problem recommending it. Rating:
Reviewed by chris on 12/01/2009 It is a good phone but be warned, on Orange Google Maps won't use the phones GPS to locate you, instead you get the poor radio based fix. It works ok with Orange maps but frankly that isnt great and you have to pay. I believe the phone has similar issues on at least some other networks. It isn't clear if it works on the unbranded SE software either. Try before you buy if you care about using Google Maps. Rating:

Never had a problem with this phone, wi-fi is great to. Reviewed by Anna on 09/01/2009 How could she say it's poor, I hear you ask with all the features packed in, it even does the dishes! It's poor because it's forgotten what it really is - a PHONE. My earpiece packed up within a fortnight, I received a replacement only to be faced with the black screen of death. On my third replacement the earpiece gave out again AND there was the blackscreen of death! You can have all the google maps in the world, WiFi, Wayfarer and the lot but if you can't make a simple phone call or send a text what is it supposed to be. Not a phone, that's for sure! Sony Ericsson need to get with the programme, and make sure it's a reliable PHONE before unleashing it on the public at an inflated price. Features galore but if it won't make the simplest of calls or texts, then it's file under 'B' - for BIN! Rating:
Reviewed by Matthew Bishop on 09/01/2009 Features are top standard. Camera is class. My problem comes with the set keep crashing. When you lock the phone the screen goes blank (i.e. screen saver doesn't come on) and when sliding the phone up to unlock the screen remains black making it impossible to do anything. This seems to happen sporadically, can go a week where it's fine then 2-3 days where it's extremely temperamental to say the least. This is my first SE, and it's realiability has been terrible. I read some posts on sites saying they'd rushed the phone out to get it on the market and that seems to be the case with me. Don't know whether it could be Orange's software they've inculded on the phone. Disappointing as when the phone is functional it's a fantastic piece of kit. Been sent for repair so hoping it comes back without these problems. Rating:

'Outstanding' as a rating is a joke with all the glitches it has. Approach this phone with caution! Rating:
Reviewed by OWD on 07/01/2009 Since upgrading from a Nokia 6100 to a SE K750i in 2005, I have been an avid fan of SE phones. I loved the layout, never had reliability issues and loved the feature-packed cameras which produced photos of high saturation (unlike some milky Samsung pictures which I had seen on friends' mobiles at the time). I was still happy with the K810i although the buttons on both the 750i and 810i packed in. This, however, was after 18 months of v quick non-predictive text messaging and just in time for an upgrade! Right...! My latest upgrade was the c905. I waited a little in anticipation of a SE phone with an awesome spec and I was looking forward to bragging to my sister's boyfriend (who had downgraded to the K800i from a higher-spec bug-ridden W-series SE mobile)! I loved my c905 for five weeks (just past the 28 day exchange limit at o2!), upgraded to the full Wayfinder and then found that the earpiece speaker had died. This seems to be a MAJOR and COMMON fault on a new handset yet I have not heard anything about it apart from forums (fora?) of this type. Surely Sony know how to make phones by now?! I feel tempted to say that ALL c905s should be recalled and replaced with new, restructured handsets and this via the network retailers/franchises which sold them. I have no qualification to say this but the problem is not the earpiece itself, it is as though something has moved slightly inside and a CONNECTION HAS BEEN LOST. Almost as though the thin circuit board inside the upper, sliding section has moved out of position somehow. I am now on my second broken handset. The replacement handset for the one which could not be fixed broke inside five days. FIVE DAYS!!! I deem the c905 unfit for purpose! HAS ANYONE ELSE NOTICED that the bottom rim edge of the square left-right-up-down navi button thing is tougher to press when the earpiece fault has occurred?????????? I knew that the second handset had broken before trying to make a call (and not hearing the other person) because the down button felt wrong and tougher than before. Is this common? It happened on my first handset! This kinda suggests that something (circuit board?) inside has shifted out of place. ALSO...the earpiece does come back to life if you manage to press the C button in a certain way during a call. This is fiddly, unreliable and just plain daft...especially as holding C turns off the microphone so that they, then, cannot hear you!!!!!! It just proves that it's a connection problem and that the earpiece itself is still fine. I head to my o2 shop this evening to see if they canb help me out for a second time. I've never ever had a problem with o2 - they've been great but it is sad that this handset and SE are causing unnecessary problems. I hope that SE sort this out as the phone, otherwise, is gorgeous. It's like having Elisha Cuthbert in your pocket...but a mute Elisha Cuthbert and what use is an Elisha Cuthbert which you cannot hear?.........then again, hee hee......!!! PS For those with blurry pictures - are you pressing halfway down enough for the camera to autofocus (like a real camera does)? Pressing all the way at once will result in unfocused pictures! Also, texting was a b**ch to get used to due to the flat keypad and my fingers occasionally fouled the sides (I have slim fingers!) but I got used to it after a week or two and was willing to put up with it due to the higher spec and satnav! Reviewed by simon on 06/01/2009 Great camera considering it's on a phone. But thats where the problem lies, this is the only outstanding feature. All the other features are industry standard, therefore it's definately not worth the price tag, as you could get a better camera for £150, then an industry standard phone with wi-fi and 3G for say another £200, working out £150 less than the price of this phone. I feel it has been cheaply made, cheap nasty buttons that are so close together that you are often likely to press the wrong one. This is a sexy phone no doubt, but i find myself looking for alternatives already. Although I do like the battery on the phone, lots of people are saying that it is no good, but mine lasts 48hrs. If you are taking more pics and videos and using Internet then expect 24hrs (still good though) Pro's - Lens slide cover Dedicated camera buttons Good Looks Good Battery Scratch proof screen Comes with 2GB external memory Cons - Average Video playback Cheap Buttons Standard functions except camera Rating:

Reviewed by Cod on 05/01/2009 This phone is rubbish, ive had mine 2 months, and already its conked out, the screen has gone all fuzzy and pixelated. Kind of like when your trying to tune in an old TV and the picture is hidden by loads of fuzzy dots. Rang up vodafone, as i am not happy with Sony Ericssons, my last one the speaker went, and they wont let me change it. So now i am stuck with the brick again. Dont get me wrong, it does most things a phone should, but its not amazing, camera is okay. Battery life is very poor! lasts one day tops!! Texting is really hard on the phone as the buttons are very stiff. The wifi works well howvwer vodafone have set it up so you have to go on wap to use any of their applications, or go onto vodafone live, therefore you are paying for them services! Also the phone tends to not lock itself very well, so i alwaysfind myself on the internet when its left in my handbag... therefore boosting up my monthly bill. The Wi-Fi connection did not work at all, most likely because it was an un-locked phone from Carphone Warehouse. I had read very good reviews for the C905 and was most interested in the camera facilities. This was a big disappointment though. It’s very, very slow, in almost all departments, particularly camera function. From changing settings, to taking the snap and the almost crippling one second save time for each shot. The Xenon flash is good though and covers a good range even up to 4 metres. It is a fiddly phone though despite its bulk which appears to have a lot to do with the fragile slider mechanism. The GPS function was good though as was the sound quality for MP3’s. Watching video on the phone though is very poor for the price as is video recording quality. Not recommended. Rating:
