Reviewed by Jane on 07/07/2011 I've had this phone for 3 years and I absolutely love it. It's the best phone I've ever had. The camera is fantastic and in spite of reviews I havent found the keypad tricky at all. I would definitely recommend it. I havent had any problems with it at all until recently, when one of the buttons on the keypad stopped working. Now I have to be fair and point out that it has taken a lot of abuse, Ive dropped it so many times I've lost count and it has been soaked twice but still worked. So now I'm buying another one. Reviewed by Moo on 01/11/2010 I hate this phone. Here's why: - 8 megapixels is worth nothing if the lens is not professional - 5 would work for me - The main (central) button came off after just a year and a half! (normal use) - The keypad doesn't let you type fast, and it is very awkward to type a newline, and VERY awkward to switch between uppercase/lowercase - The OS is slow, and the software is awful; there are HQ animations you can't switch off (battery time, anyone?), lots of waiting for nothing, it allows its software to overload it (ie. alarm messages queuing up and making the phone unusable for at least a minute - the "red" button won't help you), illogical and confusing behavior of many functions - The camera is based on the hardware contact principle; the lens cover contact triggers the software. Well, the contact stopped working, thus the whatever-megapixel camera is no more... - USB connection hangs a lot, even when using SE's PC software, in all modes (phone, media, disk) I could go on. The good points maybe the screen (which is a bit small though, but clear and nice), the special camera buttons and flash (which, of course, require a working camera, mhm), WiFi, and such. But make no mistake, some things JUST AIN'T RIGHT. I guess I hate the software the most, but it's no surprise that hardware is neither the strongest point of this phone. I mean, why would I go through the trouble of flashing/reseting my phone because of buggy software?! Is that progress? 90's phones didn't have this problem. Neither did the phones from a few years ago, which also had advanced software. Anyway, I wouldn't buy this phone; because of software I'd always go for Nokia instead. This is a frustrating phone with a good screen, needless camera resolution, WiFi, faulty software, cheap keypad and buttons. Sorry Sony Ericsson. Rating:

Reviewed by Gabriel on 14/09/2010 Well, i just love this phone, for the camera and for the Wi-Fi. Those are the most important things at this phone i guess. But i don't know why the video camera won't record videos . If the memory card is selected the video will start recording and it will stop suddenly without actualy saving the video. I don't know why I have this problem. (i hope is not because I droped the phone many times :)) ). I had a w810i and a w902 before my c905, and I can't say I'm careful with them :))but S.E. phones are so DAMN RESISTANT. I droped all my phones many times by mistake and they were only scrached :D. So that's it, my only problem is with the recording :0 if someone could help I would apreciate, thx Rating:

Reviewed by James on 16/08/2010 I really like this phone, it does everything my old N95 black 8GB did but not as loud with a single speaker. I was put on a 18 month contract and wanted a phone that would last and had decent GPS/Camera. It is solid, calls are good quality but the ear speaker stopped working-3 day turn around was good and lucky speaker will work. The Phone is strong as I have dropped it numerous times (scratch proof glass). I don't like the number pad but you will need to keep your nails trimmed and the battery lasts a day under heavy use and I can't delete apps I don't want from being locked and every 6 months I reboot the whole phone. The phone has good web ability and google maps/Skype works great and the phone signal has never dropped. I was about to upgrade my phone but will just get new covers and 12 month sim. Want a good camera phone with some extras that work? This will be it. Rating:

Again the same, after 3-4 times finally he called but i could not hear him he could hear me though. Also the strange thing was that when he turned to speaker mode i heard him very good , but only in speaker mode. After another try to call me the phone closed by itself and when he tried to power on the phone show him that the battery was empty, but just before one min the battery was full! Any way we expect to send us a working model but we are very frustrated even the cheapest chinesse phones dont have those problems!!!!!!! I dont know what to say but we were really dissapointed..... Reviewed by dee on 17/07/2010 I've had mine since April 09, and went for it because of the Zeiss optics. I'm not a heavy txter or phone addict, but i do travel a lot, so I'm using a 16gig M2 card to carry my music, and take vids and photos while I'm out and about. And yes it does read all 16gig. As a photographer, it's a useful compact to have in my pocket when I'm not carrying my full kit. I've had no issues with any bits breaking or failing, even after a brief dunking in a hot bath. I use a clear plastic case to protect the phone, because I'd rather trash that than the handset. I've used the GPS a few times, and the wifi where it's free, but I'd rather use a netbook for instant mobile web access. My fingers are too big for most phone keyboards. For my limited needs (calls, text, good quality audio, and excellent camera) it's about as good as it gets. I use a simple cheap audio adapter to plug in my headphones or speakers, rather than using the very uncomfortable proprietary headphones. The volume is more than adequate in flight, on tubes, and in busy streets, and the audio quality on mp3 at 256k is nice and bassy, which suits me, because most of my music is bass heavy. I'd love to find fault with the 905, but it's difficult to think of one. In terms of connection, it works on Vodaphone in all but the worst network coldspots. I work underground and can connect everywhere in the building. Something that wasn't possible with my old Nokia on the same network. If I change phones next year, I'll definitely keep this one as a cam and mp3 player, with a backup payg sim for those mislaid new phone moments. Rating:

Reviewed by chris on 24/06/2010 Well I read the reviews of this phone after I bought it and to be honest if I'd have listened to what the reviewers were saying I'd have missed out on the best little phone I've ever owned. I can't praise this little baby enough I love it and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone I know. OK its not perfect but the good points far out way the bad. The camera is exceptional the digital zoom is awesome as is the myriad of camera phone functions on offer. It also has a good mp4 player and it is very good when browsing the web. I personally like the style and functionality of this phone but I guess it wouldn't suit everyone. The phone has a very good built in speakerphone which comes in handy now and again. So far (touch wood) It hasn't let me down at all except for the odd crash when I've asked to much of it. I've put a 16GB card in mine and have 14GB of music on it and it works fine and accesses the music library flawlessly. When it has crashed its usually after using the WAP feature (probably dodgy websites) and I Just take the battery out and reboot it and it clears itself fine but my older k800i had a tendency to do this now and again anyway so I've kind of learnt to live with it over the years with Sony Erricson phones. The battery life could be better but is adequate for my needs as long as it gets plugged in every other day or so and I reckon I'm a pretty average user. The slider has a nice crisp feel to it but the buttons show signs of wear quickly and the side infills are coloured by sticky plastic which has a tendency to peel off. As I said the good outways the bad and I'd still happily get another tommorow if I lost the one I have. Rating:

Reviewed by Lexy on 17/06/2010 This phone is terrible. I would not recommend it to anyone. I've was taken in by it being the first phone to have a great camera and I wanted a change from Samsung. Ever since I bought it, i've had nothing but trouble with it. First of all, the buttons just have just rubbed away and scratched really easily. The metallic strips on the side have just scrathed and peeled away easily and part of the camera cover fell off as it was poorly glue on. The phone is just badly glued on plastic put together so poorly that the a lot of the phones cover is coming loose and just snapping/falling off as I use the phone in just day to day use. Even the Sony Erricson logo has rubbed off! Internally, the phone is just as bad. The phone is quite slow as you move around it. I often find when I slide the phone up, the screen will go black and the only way to fix this is to take out the battery and restart to phone. Also, less then a year into having it, the speaker on the phone broke so I could only call hear someone if they were on loud speaker, which is awkward to use. I sent it off for repair (even though they really didn't want to) and when it returned I can now use none of the applications (apart from the ones you cost you to use). I can't use the calculator or play any games because the the buttons are unresponsive when you try to use them. Now, only a few months later, the speaker has broken again. Its not completely useless but the sound coming through is crackly and you can't hear what people are saying well at all (sounds like they are going through a tunnel). Often the phone just hangs up mid conversation like there is no signal, even when I have full bars and often people comment on how they can't get through to me because it goes straight to answer machine. When I try to call someone, sometimes it doesnt even ring and it hangs up for me. The camera is ok, but you're better of just getting a proper camera because you will probably get a clearer picture and better features. The phone is chunky and clumsy and I regret buying it. Save your money and DON'T buy this phone!!!! Rating:
Reviewed by Civicle on 07/06/2010 i have had this phone for a years and a half this phone is real simple to use and some nice features i even bought some accessories like a bluetooth watch to go with it i have had all different faults with it and i think im on my 4th 1 now because i dont want it repaired i want it replaced. With a 16GB memory it takes awhile to load up but when the phone is working it works brillaint. Another downside is the refresh wait is slow at times i even link it up to my laptop to use it as a modem and the speed on that aint slow either. I really do love this phone and it is very handy in my day to day life. the poor side is that every problem i had has been different and even a new phone they sent me had a faulty screen on it Rating:

Reviewed by KT on 02/05/2010 I have always had SE phones, never had any problems until I got this one. Its great for its features, and the cameras awesome, but I have had nothing but issues :( I had it for about a year when the speaker died...common problem apparently, I could only do calls whilst on speakerphone. next time the problem was with the speaker again, and whenever I closed the slider it crashed, and the screen went all brightly coloured :s Then this time, i was taking pics of stuff, and I pressed the top button to open the pics and it didnt work, so I thought I would turn the phone on and off again to see if it was just a hiccup. I turned it back on and the language was polish or slovenic or something I couldnt understand. It showed I had no battery (erven thoough on phone status it said I had 34%) and I also had no network coverage... I tried updating software, but it said I had the current software, so I ended up having to reinstall it, and thankfully, it worked. Its a shame because other than all the problems, its a nice phone. Reviewed by James on 29/04/2010 I was a heavy Nokia user for years, then I needed something smaller and reliable, quick, great photos but well put together instead flimsy nokia rubbish. I have found this phone great, quick and excellent pics. The AGPS and Google maps has been awesome. The Slider is well put together. I take it on road cycling training rides as it fits neatly in my emergency tool bag or a pocket. Load up Opera browser and it rocks-super fast browsing but won't stream video -well I haven't been succesful with it on wifi but phone network video is fine. Works well with skype, push email and windows messenger. Scratch proof glass. It has replaced my snappit camera easily. Downside- Buttons-keep your nails short and its fine! Networks prevent you from deleting rubbish programs like games you never would play. The ear speaker will eventually stop and need replacing under warranty. Standard browser is rubbish but Opera flies on this. At the moment I would say the battery is terrible and the replacemnt-just make sure you get some more amps in the new battery. I got this phone as touchphones were still new like LG and unreliable. Now they are they are reliable I will be getting a HTC Desire next. Sony have great tech in this phone but let down by lack of modification availble by the user-probably by networks really. Great phone, shoddy battery. Fantastic photos. Rating:

Reviewed by JTR on 30/03/2010 I've had my C905 for 8 months now, and I've had pretty much no problems with it. I've read a lot of reviews saying how everything keeps going wrong with it, but unless I happen to have the one well built model out there, I think the breaking problems may have more to do with how you guys treat your phones rather than the build quality of the handset. There are only 2 problems that I've encountered with the phone: The first is that the sliding mechanism for the camera lens cover can get dust in its tracks, however this dust is easily removed with a paperclip, or even just the corner of a piece of paper. The second problem is that there is a silver painted plastic ridge on each side of the phone that has started to wear, revealing the white plastic underneath the silver paint. To be honest, that is probably to be expected after 8 months of use, particularly if like me you throw your phone in your pocket with your keys. Aside that it's a fantastic piece of kit. I bought it primarily for its camera and it hasn't let me down there, highlights include the xenon flash and the 8.1 megapixel resolution. With a 2GB memory card put in it I've never run out of space for photos. Rating:

I'm not keen on contracts but chose this mobile as it was well built and fits in my pocket when I go riding-I don't want a huge mobile. I have had to send it back once as the ear speaker went and 2 days later good as new. The software was faster than my N95 black, great camera and sound. Internet speed and Google maps has been fast. Traditional phone and small screen that works well and won't rattle like early Nokia sliders. Would convince me to buy S-E again. Rating:

It takes a while to turn the phone on, and when you try watch videos over the internet, its slow as hell, totally unwatchable. Needless to say this is the last SE i will ever hope to buy, im going with iphone instead. Unless you wana be taking this phone back to the shop every 5 mins for repairs, i suggest you dont buy it. Reviewed by Blackpanther039 on 05/03/2010 I have been a fan of Sony for a good 10 years now and have always been loyal to them were the mobile phones are concerned. I have had my C905 for a good 15 months now and all in all it is a very good phone. It has been repaired twice for different faults but the repair service was second to none thanks to The Carphone Warehouse and the phone itself is very good, I use the hands free in the car and the phone is used as an mp3 player linked to my car stereo via an fm transmitter. I have never had any other problems with calling or any other issues apart from the 2 faults that have been repaired, they were the slide ribbon not working and the select button stayed depressed. So all in all it is a great phone. I am going to upgrade next month but unsure as what to go to next and it may have to be a different make and that is only because Sony hasn't got a very good touch tone phone as yet in my oppinion. Now 6 months down the line, my phone has developed the speaker fault and is totally useless. Now I'm without a phone. Although the camera and interface is good. The faults are just unbelievable. This phone should have been recalled! I have asked for a newer version of the phone from S.E as it's meant to be more reliable. But I haven't heard anything back. Just over a month in and the phone breaks down, doesnt register the battery or load or anything. I have a replacement sent out to me. I have just today [January] taken the phone back to o2 for the fifth time [the replacement that is]and It's nearly always the same fault. But because it isnt exactly the same I don't get offered a new make. When the phone works it's brilliant. Reviewed by Andy on 05/01/2010 Got mine on contract with Orange just over 1 year ago when the phone was new to the market. I was an upgraded from a K810i. I liked the C905's still camera (which is superb for a camera-phone), the WiFi connection & the greatly improved menu navigator control. Like many users however, I took an immediate dislike to the flat keypad which I struggled to text quickly with. Video mode is frustrating as the audio quality is v.good but the image is v.poor. First thing that went wrong with my C905 was that the battery life dramatically reduced after 3 months. It would go flat within 24hours without use. Orange replaced the battery & so far, so good. Just last month however, the dreaded earpiece fault occured. After being shoddily passed between Orange & SE, I have finally been instructed to send my C905 to SE for repair under its 2 year warranty. Unfortunately for me, I don't have a backup handset & Orange no longer provide loan handsets so I will have no phone meantime. O range rather smuggly told me they no longer sell the C905 due to the large number of returns they had with it. Thanks for that. This will probably be my last SE phone & it will certainly be my last one with Orange. Rating:
Reviewed by Foster on 05/01/2010 I keep having to have mine replaced due to the poor signal it receives. It will jump from no bars to full bars when i'm stationary. Extremely frustrating and I am now on my 5th handset from Orange so clearly it is a problem with the actual design rather than a malfunctioning unit. Luckily I have free orange care so I haven't had to pay for the new handsets but I would not reccomend this handset to anyone unless you are prepared to pay for it to be repaired, wait months for the repair and continuously back up your data everytime something goes wrong with it. Hope someone finds this brief but honest review to be of use!!! Rating:

I've had approx five months use out of it and THREE TIMES it's broken down - first time it froze and when I restarted it, it wouldn't recognise SIM card nor network signal and was locked to what appeared to be an eastern-European language. Sent it back to be repaired and it worked fine following that for a few weeks and then internet access stopped working altogether on the handset. I performed a master reset which fixed it and then a few weeks later the screen packed in. I've now given up on the handset and am purchasing the C902! AVOID THE C905!!! Rating:

It WAS a good phone for 4 months, until the speaker stopped working, and now I have to use the loudspeaker to hear people. This is really poor on Sony's part. Obviously the speaker failure rate is huge, so Sony must be using cheap Chinese speakers or something. I wont be buying another Sony phone after this fiasco. The camera isnt even that great- most of the time it takes grainy photos and zooming in only makes them worse. I'm sure it would actually have been more handsets than this had i not held on to the faulty handsets for months at a time waiting for a good time to put it in for repair. Reviewed by Lee Wild on 28/12/2009 Firstly it is an amazing camera. The 8.1 megapixel has enabled me to take photos of bees, butterflies and things alike and successfully zoomed in to fill the screen crop/edit without no breakdown in the picture. They are perfect in my eyes. More flash options would be nice. I have not found an option to force the flash on for a fill in flash. The only bad thing is the lens cover/slider. It should have had a grip surface as I often struggle to open it. It has a good media player though I am no expert in the quality of the player it sounds very good through my Shure SE 530 (I think they are) head phones. It would be nice if the volume could be turned down a bit more. before the sound goes off. I hate using it for internet because of the screen size. Just something to get used to I suppose. It can not cope with applications on Facebook. I guess Sony has developed a number of of problems wit this phone and I had several. Luckily my phone was under the Orange Warranty and I had it replaced within 24 hours. My last replacement was the Sony Warranty. I had to wait a number of day's for it's return. My main hate is the charger/headphone socket position. It's on the left side and as I have just the use of my left hand, I struggle to type with it when it's charging and it's just not a sensible postion for when the headphones are in place as its an obstruction. It takes an M2 memory card. I am very pleased with the phone and lost without it. I will look forward to Sony's next in line. Oh and of course it's a phone, :-) It works!! Its a juggle between 3 a and 4 stars Rating:
