Have now had my Soul now for 2 days and loving it. I did read the reviews before buying and yes my fingers are sore having tried for about an hour to get the battery cover off, to get the battery and sim into the phone!! samsung really should get that sorted, as it seems to be working fine for some, but not everyone. Apart from that, ring volume, I did what Lauren said and it seems to have worked for me. I love the touch pad feel and look of the phone, the text pad bits(this was important to me as i text a lot) and everyone I have showed my phone to loves it. Yes again, i agree the volume when speaking to people can be a bit louder. Have tried the camera and its fab. Having upgraded from a Nokia(cant remember the model 82** something) it was so bad, the one that keeps shutting itself down, this phone seems like heaven. Still trying to figure out how to sync my music from Windows Media Player to my phone. Its coming up with sync error " the device's certificate cannot be identified" Has anyone else encountered this problem.

Got mine today. No problems with sound and a decent camera to boot. Only confusion I had during set-up was needing to close the phone before bluetooth would work with my computer. Mainly posting review to pass on a tip for accessing the battery. Wrap a bit of sellotape around your thumb. You'll get a much better grip and it should slide off easily. No need for excessive force / knives etc.

had this phone for about two weeks and sometimes i think its great and other times i hate it. the touch menu is cool and the way you can customize the menu's is a really nice touch. The thing that really annoys me with this phone is the volume levels. the ring tones are soo quiet even when you have it on full volume and when on the phone its really difficult to hear the other person. I was in a restaraunt the other day and i could not hear for the life of me. pointless having a phone if you can only hear the other person when you are at home in a room with no one else and no background noise. apart from that its good.

I just got this phone today, i think its great:) it looks kool, and has all the latest gadgets to match. the "magic" buttons are the shizz! U can almost change every aspect of the phone including the colours of the buttons, make and design ur own back grounds and a 5meg camera:P the touch screen is great, not like the annoying ones u used to get with samsung. It works everytime and is very responsive only down point is that i think it should have more applications to match this great phone:P ...all in all...great buy

I got this phone yesterday as my new upgrade, and so far so good. The volume is fine and I really like the look of the phone. The cameras good, although the flash is a bit bright! The only thing I wish they would have done is made the part where the touchscreen panel is all touch sensitive, as where the "hang up" "call" buttons are I forget to push them thinking they were touch not push buttons. Apart from that I really like the phone and had no problem with the volume!

ok, the comments about the quiet ring volume ARE true, there's no denying it. it is an annoying quality of the phone. but by no means would i say its a big enough defect to prevent you buying this phone. it has an incredible display, the touch pad is fab, you can ajust it to how sensitive you want it to be so no worries about accidently pressing things you dont mean to. great sound quality, easy slide, gorgeous quality camera.... if i could give this 4 and a half stars i would, as it isnt PERFECTION but pretty damn close so im gonna give it 5.

Touch screen - good and responsive... But... am sending it back tomor! 1. Not as good as Sony Ericsson 3.2 megapixel K800i (my prev phone). Images are blurred, grainy and bleached white at times due to overpowering flash. 2. Cannot unlock the phone without sliding it open. 3. No screensaver - looks like it's turned off unless just finished using it. So cannot tell whether you have any missed calls / texts / what time it is without sliding phone open. 4. Battery lasted just over a day of LIGHT use. 5. Does not sync with Apple Macs 6. Cannot hear phone calls and signal was very bad. I read some negative reviews and thought people were just being picky.... THIS PHONE IS NOT READY FOR SALE. Lots of changes need to be made!

Unfortunately, after having 2 of these handsets, I've finally given in, but not everything was bad: *Goods points: -Touch pad system much easier to use than you'd expect -Beautifully made, feels good in the hand -Fast and attractive UI -Fully customisable themes *Niggles: -Some slightly illogical menu layouts -No voice dialling?! -Screen could be bigger for size of handset -Whether or not the battery cover comes off easily depends on the individual handset - if it doesn't come off easily, you'll dent the back and scratch everything inside the phone -Need a converter (not supplied) to use standard headphones *My reasons not to buy, or to at least wait until Samsung release a second version: -Speaker quality is truly pathetic -Voice calls are much too quiet making it unusable outside I only write reviews when I have strong opinion about something. I have tried 4 handsets, and owned 2 of those. All were the same. How can Samsung have gone so wrong with such a key element? All other Samsung handsets that I have owned have never suffered these problems. Now using a Nokia 6500 slide. I give the phone 2.5 stars.

Good points: - nice looking handset, good build quality. - touch pad very responsive and easy to use, and can change sensitivity. Looks pretty cool too and can change colours on it (my favourite thing - I'm so sad). - great for texting as buttons flat and wide enough, and don't hurt your fingers like the latest S.E. cyber shot phone! - 5mp camera and flash is good (OK, maybe not as briliiant as S.E. cyber shot, but it's still a good camera, better than my e900 2mp camera, so as long as it's better, it's fine by me!). Definately play around with settings to get best pic quality. Anti-shake thing is great as my old e900 was rubbish for blurry-ness! - fantastic gadgety additions - now you can make your own themes, plus you can actually set music or a ringtone as the text message sound unlike older samsungs. - Good call qaulity, and volume seems ok I think too for playing music and ringtone etc, but better with earphones. Bad points: - took me ages to get battery cover off - ridiculous design! - why are samsung instruction manuals so unhelpful? Yes they are simple, but a bit too simple sometimes me thinks. - follow on to above point - although layout is fairly easy to follow, sometimes you have to think where certain applications are - e.g. haven't figured out how to adjust camera settings while actually using the camera - have to go out of camera mode and into settings - or maybe it's just me being thick (wouldn't be surprising). They are the only bad points I think, but pretty much everything else great! Given 4 stars because battery cover thing really annoyed me at the time when all I wanted to do was play around with my new phone!!

Unfortunately, this is the worst phone that I have ever had and have sent it back (something I've never done before). The ringtones are too quiet, like so many others have said, but they also sound very poor quality and tinny. Also, the volume when talking is too quiet. In short, the problems that I have had have been the same as numerous others have reported, however there is a stark contrast in the reviews here, with others saying that they love the phone. With this in mind, I am wondering if perhaps a "bad batch" has been produced and I was one of the unlucky ones?

The u900 rocks, it is a great phone, my main reason for writng this is to help anyone who has difficulty removing the battery cover of this phone, the solution is simple and effective, wrap some selotape around your thumb several times making sure you keep the sticky side of the tape to the outside so that when you slide the thumb along the battery cover you have a very effective grip which removes the cover, it works for me every time. every thing else about the phone is great, everyone should remember these are primarily phones, so dont be too critical of the cameras and music players and video recorders that come with them, whilst the quality may vary from phone to phone they can never replace digital cameras and music players sold seperatly at least not at the present time anyway.

Got this phone on tuesday, so far is has been fine for me, not had a problem with the battery cover like some people have, i adjusted the ring volume so that is fine. I was umming and arring with this phone to get it or not. Eventually i did, got it on O2 400mins&1000txts, phone cost £40 and on a 12month £35 contract which ainit to bad. Design is really nice, nice brushed metal plastic does not feel cheap. The menu is really nice to use and easy to get to different things. The magical touch or touch screen/panel is a nice idea but is hit or miss some of the time been fine for me but let my friend have a go and could not work it properly after i showed it him. Music player is nice layout and easy to use with the touch panel. The caller volume is beyond a joke, its bad, i used it last night in my local pub and it not even really busy or that noisy and i could not hear a word the person on the other end said, that really needs to be sorted and the for mp3 playback is very tinny, to say its got a bang & oulfsen is nothing special. Sending txts i found easy enough, people say its to fiddly but i can txt fast and easy enough with it, the symbol part it long winded but nothing to scream about. The 5 megapixel camera is average, my old K750i takes better pics at 3.2MP, its has a flash and no xenon flash but does has an anti-shake option which helps. I think this could have been a good phone but has been let down by the speaker and the low caller volume, other then that is a nicely designed phone. Mine shall be going back soon.

bought this phone yesterday, looks amazing and is very customisable (u can even change the colour of the touchscreen buttons!). however the sound quality even when using the headphones is very tinny and i do not recommend using this as an mp3 player coz i have a 1gb cheapo mp3 player that sounds a hundred times better than this. its true that the volume when calling is a bit low, and this is pretty stupid really as the main function of this device is to call people right?? (i think people get too caught up in all the other, sometimes pointless, features). also the camera really isnt all that great, and my old n73 takes much better pictures with a 3.2 megapixel camera. so my recommendation is that if u want a phone that looks pretty then definitely get this! it really does look great, however if u want a phone for functionality then i say steer well clear of this as is just isnt up to scratch.

Have been using Samsung phones for five/six years now, and unfortunately I have found this the most disappointing of the lot. I think the phone is a bit over hyped, the touch screen really is just a glorified scroll menu, the back is difficult to get off but not a major issue, but the ringing volume, the alarm volume and the speaker are all poor. After a week and a half of owning it i am sending it back as I cannot hear anyone the other end that is calling me. I have seen other peoples tips here of turning down the bass etc, which i think doesn't work, and i don't think having to fiddle around with things like the speaker volume very practical. I am now considering a Nokia. Come on Samsung you could have done better than this!!

I cannot believe that there are people out there that don't like to samsung soul - it is the best phone ever! I debated for weeks about buying this model due to the mixed reviews i was reading everywhere and eventually decided to give it a go - and boy am i glad i did! The day i ordered it i saw that this site had downgraded from outstanding to excellent - but surely this phone deserves the highest rating possible. I have no regrets whatsoever now it is here. Photo quality is fabulous, the phone is so easy to use and the volume options and touchpad are great. Don't waste time thinking about it like i did - go out there and get the best phone ever made!

had the soul for three days and just love it.the way you can change your display settings to your own theme is so cool. it's so indiviual. only problem i've experienced is with the camcorder, i can't seem to be able to change it from economy mode, which is very grainy. the camcorder on my previous phone e900 was so much better. anyone else had this problem? as to other complaints regarding the phones volume etc it seems every phone setting profile such as normal, outdoor, car etc seems to have its own settings for incoming calls and messages. so you have to go into each profile- via options and edit to re-set to what you want. i have set my incoming call volume on each profile to the max. in doing this it's loud!

The past 3 mobile phones I have had, have all been Samsung from the E600 to E530 to D900 all of which I have been really impressed with. The Samsung Soul-U900 is what I have recently got, I think the phone overall is great and it’s the only phone which is out right now that’s caught my attention. I think that the ringtone volume on the phone is absolutely fine. HOWEVER I do think that the call volume on the phone is too low and thats even with it turned up to volume level 7 - the highest it can go. So for a Samsung phone of 2008 I really would have expected better. I took the phone back to my local Vodafone store as I thought that it may be faulty, however the employee at Vodafone brought out a new phone and this also had the same problem with the volume being too low. So it’s a case now of whether I can live for the next 18month of the contract with a phone that I will need to put the speaker on when the volume is too low.

The only thing that is a slight draw-back is the volume on the ear piece when recieving calls - Even with Volume turned right up,its quite quiet.Having had the i300 (Boo-Hiss!!) & U600,U700 previously,I can say that the call sound level isn't as good as previus models.
