Reviewed by c_heesypeas on 20/08/2008this phone is appalling...so complicated and slow to do anything, scrolling through pictures is a tedious business and my screen has failed already after 3 months, when someone rings, it forgets to light up the display meaning there is no way of knowing who is phoning without answering it...the only way to get the screen back on after this is to turn the phone off and back on again! Rating: ![]() Reviewed by kp on 20/08/2008 Couldnt wait to get my hands on this phone. After 1 week I got rid of it. It's the worse phone ever. Ring volume is so low you miss most calls. It is bulky and heavy. Battery cover is very difficult to remove. Although the worst thing just has to be the battery life. It's terrible. Th eonly good thing about the phone is the looks and material its made from. I had the pink one which was a nice looking phone. Although the battery life is so bad it's just not worth having. Not if you want a phone to use as a phone when you need it. Rating: ![]() Reviewed by Xenia on 19/08/2008 I think that this is one of the best phones this year! Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by leigh on 19/08/2008 i got this phone about a week ago and i am still finding new things to fiddle with!! its fantastic. set my camera on the highest setting with flash on and took some pictures on a night out and i am so so impressed wth the quality of pictures. my friends have sony, other samsung models and LG. pictures on the SOul are far superior!! You can also have MP3's as text message tone which i coudn't do with my previous Samsung (D900). I have customised my screens/menus etc, which you can have in all colours! I absolutely love it. I do not have a problem with ringtone being quiet as others have described but i use MP3's as ringtone so maybe that makes a difference. My phone rings downstairs and i can hear it upstairs. How loud do you need it!! the touch sensitive screen can be a little irritating but soon discovered you can change sensitivity and vibration levels so not a problem any more...ONLY prob I have had is about 4 out of the 20 or so video clips that i had stored o n my memory card from a previous phone won't play. Any suggestions on fixing this would be great Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Big Tel on 18/08/2008 Been looking forward to this phone for quite some time and after finally getting it on friday I am dissapointed with a capital D. Dont get me wrong the features are good however the call volume and sound voulume are shocking. Its quiet when in a room alone so if your in a public place and calling someone you find yourself saying what what what every 2 seconds as its impossible to hear. The phone itself weighs quite a bit which can be tricky for texting 1 handed. I really thought this was going to be a good phone but I am sending mine back and picking a replacement. I have had samsungs for several years but think its finally time to jump ship to Sony. Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Warwick on 15/08/2008 I love this phone. The battery doesn't last quite as long as other new phones I've had but then this phone is really slim so I guess it's to be expected. I almost didn't buy the phone as I'd read reviews saying that people had had problems with the ringtone and caller volumes. I thought I'd try it anyway but have had no problems whatsoever with either! Camera is great, text messaging is easy and you can change the sensitivity of the touch screen which I thought was pretty cool. Overall I think this is a fantastic phone. I love it to bits and I'm really glad I tried it despite the odd ngative review!! Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Joanne - how to change the ringing volume!!! on 15/08/2008 If you want to change the ringing volume, here's how: 1. Go to your menu and click 'settings'. 2. Click on 'Phone Profiles' and you should come up with -Normal -Meeting -Driving -Silent etc. Make sure your phone is on 'Normal' mode and then click options. 3. When you have clicked on options go to edit and then go down to where it says ringtone volume. Turn that up to were you want it and there you have it, the volume is adjusted. Hope it helped. Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Frank on 15/08/2008 Maybe I`m just unlucky with my phone.... but beware! The battery life is terrible. What is even worse is the 2 mins warning you have from `low battery` warning to totally flat! Absoulutely shocking. That plus the battery cover comes loose very easily, the speaker is rubbish and texting space is half what I had with my sony... still it looks nice. Call quality is OK, the ringing volume isnt that loud either, browsing is slow. All in all i sold my phone and got myself a sony ericsson which is working superbly. This was my first and last venture into the samsung phone market. Rating: ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Ashleigh on 13/08/2008 this phone is the best, very stylish, very nice weight to it, the 5 megapixel is unreal or though i do find it a little frustrating waiting on the camera to take the pic, to me, the shutter speed is very slow. Also the position of the camera button to take the pic is in an arkward place, but i'm sure with more use it will turn out fine. i did find the touch screen a bit to sensitive but after a week, it's no problems. i've owned mine for just over a week now and i'm a very proud owner all my friends love it and want one. this is a very sturdy phone with its metal case. i did find the volume a little on the quite side but ive just downloaded ringtones and music through the phones online directory and now its great. the only problem ive found is the manual is worth the paper its written on. we're not all genius samsung. there is a lot of really important information that should've been included in the manual. over all its a fantastic phone and i love it....ASH from Australia xxx :) Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Jon on 12/08/2008 It's just too quiet. Shame really, but at the end of the day, it's a phone - and when its a struggle hearing the person you're talking to, all the features in the world can't make up for it. Jon. I say moble phone companies go back in time a little and sacrafice the 'cool modern features' for a phone that actually works well, and works when you want it to work and lasts FOR AT LEAST A DAY! I have adjusted this phone to the loudest sound setting whilst using the phone, which is unusual in itself and even then i can barely hear who i'm talking to! This phone is being swapped, which is lucky - but beware to all those who are thinking about buying this phone. It is difficult to navigate. I wanted to send it back but was unable to as it took me 3 weeks to speak to a person at orange and as you only get 7 days to change you mind I am stuck with it. Rating: ![]() Reviewed by sam brough on 10/08/2008 I have just got a samsung soul and i think its brill , iv had a massive range of phones but none of them come nearly as close as this, its by far the best phone out. Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Excelsior on 10/08/2008 I have had almost every phone over the past few years but i mainly used a nokia 6630 coz its the most user friendly phone ever and i didnt wana let go of it. Anyway... I found a good deal on o2 and i got the samsung soul. My first impressions of the phone: It was by far the best looking and the most stylish phone i have ever had ( Nokia N95 is quite stylish as well but a little too bulky) A lot of people complained about the battery cover but i found that removing the cover and sticking the battery in was a breeze! i dont know why theres such a fuss about it. But heres a few tips incase you really cant figure it out. Hold the phone with both hands with the battery cover facing you. Take a closer look at the battery cover , see where it says SAMSUNG? a couple of inches down towards the edge theres a little ARROW pointing upwards. Stick your left thumb nail just under that arrow, and rest the palm of your right hand on "SAMSUNG" (the fingers of your right hand should be on the front side of the phone just over the speaker) Now you push upwards with your left thumb, and at the same time you push upwards with your palm (make sure you dont dig your nails into the front side of your phone and damage it!) And there you have it! Anyways... i got my phone i started it up and went through the menus and i didnt like it. I was really disappointed. It was too simple ( i didnt know i could change the themes at that time) I sent it back straight away and ordered a samsung tocco for which i had to pay them £180. i had that tocco for a week and its the worst phone on this planet!! a good full touch screen and 5 mp camera and thats it. NOTHING else to it. so i sent that back and got my samsung soul again. O2 being clever... sent me a second hand one thinking i wouldnt notice. The battery was missing from the pack and the slider was well loose. Heres a thing, if any of you find your sliders even a little bit wobbly, send it back straight away. Its meant to be perfect! Anyways i got a new one sent to me a few days later and i explored this phone a little bit further and wow what a gem! The best about this phone is that theres endless themes to choose from. I mean it. You can change the colour of the menus on the touch pad to go with the theme/wall paper of your phone. You can CREATE your own themes, you can change the colour of the swirling effect. So the same phone looks totally different with a new theme. Thats what i love the most! To top it off its got a very good music player (bang olufsen sound amplifier) and not the best but quite a decent camera with a lot of settings. Ticks all the boxes for me. One last thing...loads of people compare it to the samsung U600 or G600... trust me those phones are nothing compared to this beast! So if your after a phone thats WELL STYLISH, has an AMAZING MUSIC PLAYER, boasts a VERY GOOD CAMERA, then wait no more, this is the one for you. The phone has 3G, with video call. The camrea is a huge 5 MP camrea, and the touch screen isnt confusing it's simple, which is good, samsung havant tried to make it look stylish as if they do, the touch screen will not work or it will be confussing. I would not buy it, but I will recommend it. For me, it isnt what you call a "safe phone" as the LG u900 copy is cheaper, and somehow better, but don't let that put you off, it's a good phone but I have held numbers of conversations and it has been finalised that it is aimed at woman, abit sexist maybe, but thats what research has found out! Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Jane on 06/08/2008 I've had this phone since the day it came out and I have no complaints about it so far. As for the ringtones, who actually uses the tones that the phone comes with? Set an MP3 as your ring tone and you will have no problems! The only problem that has occured with mine is the spring that is used to slide it up and down. Mine broke last week which ment that the phone does not stay open without you holding it. However T-Mobile are sending it off to Samsung who will repair it free of charge, they will not however change the phone unless the same problem occurs 3 times. Overall however I believe that this phone is the best phone that Samsung has brought out so far. Also having the touch screen for the navigational keys makes it easier to use as you cannot accidently cut off what you are doing as you could on other Samsung phones. I had this phone for a couple of months now and I think its a great phone. I can imagine that for people looking for a music player and camera its not the top quality but for me does the job. At the end its just a phone. For music I have an I-pod with 60GB. And for photos I have a very good digital camera. For the ones that said the screen scratches easily I bought a film protector for the screen cutted it to the size of the screen I did the same with the battery cover. The touch pad was a bit more critical because of the small size but I managed aswell. Trust me you don't see the film protector aslong as you buy a good quality one. The quality of the plastic used is poor, the keys began to creek when typing a text. I send approx 30 texts a day, 1-2 hours of calls and try to look after my phones the best I can so for this to happen after 4 weeks is not acceptable. It wasnt just my phone either, I know of 3 other people with the same phone and same problem. In terms of the software and touch panel, they worked no problem. If only the quality of materials used had been up to the job Id have given this at least 4 out of 5. I now have a Sony Ericsson C902 and the build quality is the best I've seen in a phone. Before, if I went somewhere where I knew I was going to take some snaps, i'd take my dedicated digi camera. Don't think I'll need to now though. The auto focus and anti-shake functions make the camera a joy to use. And then there is the magic touch screen, which alters the options to suit what application is in use. As someone has already said, pretty much everything on the soul can be adjusted so you can make it work the way you like. Texting is fine. I just want to know how to turn the predictive text of perminantly, as apposed to switching it off every time you go to right a text. As for the call volume quality, I don't have an issue. Maybe it was a bug in the first batch of phones. Time will tell. The browser does not seem super fast, but it is still fast enough for most peoples needs. Have just started to download some mp3's onto it and the only thing i'd say is that if you get this phone, you'll need to use the micro sd card slot! The phone only comes with around 100mb, so an 8gb card is on order! The software is easy to use and you can syncronise the phone with your media player, making downloading very simple. My only worry is the battery life. I have been using it a lot over the last two days (since it was last charged) and after just 24 hours, it was down to two out of three bars. Still on two bars now though, so I might be worrying for no reason. All in all, a very satisfying phone to use, and that is after just 4 days. I'll see how I am getting on with it in a week before I make the decision to keep it. I must agree though that the speaker volume isnt the greatest, sometimes when I'm making a call I have to get the other person to speak up, MP3 doesnt play very well either not at all loud but then again thats due to the speakers not being very good. Another thing as well truthfully the camera is poor, its supposed to be a 5 megapix camera but I dont think its that great really, before this I had the LG Viewty which was also a 5 megapix camera and the Viewty had 100 times better picture quality, I also think that the flash on the Soul is WAY too bright, when you are taking pictures at close range they dont turn out very well at all which is quite frustrating, and when they do turn out they aren't at the best quality I've seen, in general I have to say that the camera and the speakerphone is VERY poor, other than that the phone is cool. I have the phone for a while and am very glad. Comparing one brand of phone to another brand is nonsense as they are built from different companies. Some people do expect a bit too much. Ever tried to see how these things are built and invented. Trust me the more things a gadget has the more problems you get the more things it has the more expensive it becomes. You need internet use your computer. You want music by a player. I read that alot of people complain about volume I use mine as an alarm clock and wakes me up every morning. And maybe am a bit too honest some people are very bad with technology, they won't make it work even if you make it for them. Sorry people don't get offended. Apart from the complaints alot of people liked it so that is what counts. I will never give a phone a 5 star because you will always find something missing that will make you think what if it had that function. In all I am happy with the Samsung U900 Soul. Rating: ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Soul User on 14/07/2008 I have had the U900 for about four months now. Nice size and weight. I had a choice between this and the LG Viewty. I chose this one as the LG was a tad too big. I normally keep my phone in my front pocket. Again, slimness was a priority to me. Yes, it has a 5M cam, but to be honest, I use my Fuji for taking pictures, so this was not important to me. Same with movie taking etc What I really use a phone for is making calls and text sending. .. and here is my real gripe with the phone. My Motorola RAZR and my old Nokia 6300 (I love the style) would indicate whether or not, a missed text or call had been received. Sadly, the U900 does not show this, and you have to open the phone to see if you have received a call or not. Some say it is too heavy, but I find the weight reassuring. Yes, you do have to open the phone to take a picture, but I cannot think of any sliderphone where you do not have to do this. As for memory cards. I have inserted an 8GB Sandisk card into it, and it worked OK. Personally, I love the style of the phone. I have taken pictures with it, but not too worried about the quality as it is not a function I really use. Text... now there is a gripe... Perhaps it is me, but i cannot get the phone to show smileys. Now there is a major gripe. Music: Well I have put a few tunes on there... Plays OK... but.... no random play function (or have I missed something again) Ring volume could be a little louder. There is no doubt that it's a beautiful looking phone, and i have no issues with the weight as i don't like really light-weight phones anyway (i always feel like i'm going to drop them). When you slide it up it is a little too large, but this isn't a big issue really and i'm sure i'll get used to it. The camera seems to be a little grainy compared to my old k800i, which i found a bit odd because it's supposed to be a higher quality camera (k800i is 3.2mp, whereas this is 5mp). The music playback is excellent when you use the headphones, although it's abit quiet when you use the speaker (but i suppose this is just because i'm used to sony ericcson phones). Touchpad works perfectly, if you use the lowest sensitivity (level 1) its just like using normal buttons, but on level 3 the touchpad works like a dream. For those of you who have found it to be slightly unrespo nsive, turn up the sensitivity on the touchpad as i think it is defaulted to level 2. One thing i love about this phone is the fact that you can create your own themes, which means that my phone will be completely unique from anyone elses, and adds a more personal feel to the phone. When i first got the phone i kept dropping it when i opened it up, so i invested in a phone sock to protect it from scratches as i can be a bit clumsy sometimes and didnt want to break it in my first week of having it! Didn't have any problems getting the back cover off like some people have mentioned.. I am not someone who likes loud ringtones but I do like to know when my phone is ringing!!! Unfortunetly for this reason I may have to change my phone as Im constantly misssing calls!!. As suggested above I have tried to change the profile volume but even at its loudest - It is low!!! The only reason I did not give this phone a 5/5 is because of this problem! BUT i am massively dissapointed, the battery life is terrible, if u wanna use it for constant phone use daily or txt use than expect 3hours of battery life but dont worry cos the texting is even worse, taking me up2 10mins to reply to a single text. words like 'as, like, sometimes' this' etc are not in its reportoire of the predictive text. how is that allowed??. n like also the camera function is pretty dire aswell. why do u hav to press a button on the side unerganomically forcing u to always take landscape pictures!!!. such a let down...i thought it wud b amazing n with all th easy to use massivley-ahead-of-its-time functions. but its a real shame that its so much hassle to do the most ordinary functions on it..very stylish very nice but my god beneath it all theres not much there... Rating: ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Hannah on 28/06/2008 I got this phone yesterday and I hated it, then I loved it, now I hate it again. This phone is great if you can get to grips with the touchpad, but I just can't. I haven't had a touchscreen phone before and I keep accidentally doing things on it, including sending half-finished text messages! Also...you can't permanently take the phone off predictive text, which is a little annoying. I will be sending this phone back and exchanging it for a different model, as I find it very difficult to text with (and this is the deature I use the most). Excellant phone though besides these points. If you've got nimble fingers and aren't too fussed about texting...go for it, it looks great too! Driving me mad... my phone sits on my desk at work in silent mode so I never know if Ive got a message unless I leave the back light on permanently which eats the battery (not a major problem as I can have it plugged in altho kinda defeats the object of having a "mobile" phone) there must be a way around this... anyone please???
