Reviewed by Gin on 01/03/2010 The phone does NOT last an entire day! You have to charge it nightly. The touch screen slow is often unresponsive on the internet. Not user-friendly at all. Sending emails is a nightmare on the touch-screen even when you are using a stylis. You cannot see the screen under any type of light, still have not figured out how to convert music onto windows media player from itunes, or how to actively-sync from my windows vista computer. The screen often freezes. Worst phone ever. Do not buy this iphone knock-off! Rating:

Reviewed by Crystal on 30/01/2010 Iv had this phone for 13months and I must say it was a great phone in the begining. There are loads of applications and programs. I find that this phone is quite confusing, there is no simple way of sending music and other things its all got to be done in confusing and annoying ways. When i first got this phone the touch screen was brilliant. I have dropped it a million times and it has never actually broken. Camera is brilliant. Excellent zoom and quality. The phone sometimes freezes, but only recently. I do find that I don't use the word, powerpoint, excel etc. Im always finding new things on it, even now. I do find that battery life doesnt last longer than a day. Other than that I find this phone very good!! Rating:
Reviewed by Steve on 13/01/2010 Just got one of these (on clearance on payg, Orange). Used the info from James below to flash to windows mobile 6.5 and what a great phone. I can now moved all the progs from my pda to this and only carry on device, nice... Impressed with the speed, the screen (OK not hi res, but for the money you can't complain). The only thing I would have to add would be the interface isn't as good as my wife's iPhone BUT it's a third the price and that's good enough for me... Rating:
Reviewed by Bernard Georges on 10/01/2010 "FIVE STAR YES!! BUT BEWARE OF THE POOR (ALMOST NON EXSISTANT) AFTER SALES REPAIR SERVICE" I own a Samsung Omnia II i 900 Unlocked International model Phone. The phone is very good, I would recommend the phone for its features and ruggedness. How ever I would love to tell the world that my experioence with the after sales service for repairs is the POOREST I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. I Live on the Island of the Commonwealth of Dominica. I purchased my OMNIA i900 on-line from Amazon.com in September of 2009. My Phone met with am accident at the end of October 2009. I followed the instructions on the booklet I received with the phone to obtain repairs for the Phone and I am only being given the run arround that I am not in the UK region so that phone cannot be repaired there, I wonder what treatment a visitor to the UK region would get if the visitor's phone needs repair service to repair a Samsung phone whilst the visitor is in the UK. I chose Samsung because I am a samsung business product reseller. Our business policy is to give service to a product that we represent irrespective of where it was purchased once it come in to us we protect the good integrity of our principals. I am most reluctant to recommend this product now inspite of all of its good and excellent features because of the total disregard given to me for after sales repairs service. I was not requesting warranty repairs I offered to pay for the services because I am honest and do not encourage cheating of warranty. Samsung needs to immediately look into their after sales service. I suggest that the person responsible for after sales repairs reads Jim Clemmer book "FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS" of 1992. Reviewed by Jim Stevens on 31/12/2009 I have owned the Omnia for several months now and have regretted buying it for most of that time. This "5mp" camera takes very blurry pictures and only does so in the best of lighting conditions. My Nokia 1.3mp seemed to do a better job. I am a longtime Mac user, and spoiled by the intuitive functionality of their products. I really can't say that the Omnia is anywhere near as easy to live with. This is by far the most annoying phone I have ever owned. Rating:

Reviewed by PJ on 18/11/2009 It's not a bad phone but it has issues. The send button being next to letters in text mode is ridiculous. The amount of times I've sent a half finished text. Why not have the send key at the top out of the way? The phone lights up for no reason, so you wait for a text or call that doesn't actually show. On the british version there is no way to flip through songs like you can on the american version, (iphone style) so you keep having to go to library or press the tiniest forward button in the world. After you get used to it, the usability is better. It has some great features and provided you close down applications as you go, it's pretty fast. Word to the wise, your phone provider may not tell you that you have to shut down internet (or tell you you have to shut down features period) via task manager when you've finished using it, so be prepared for a hefty first bill. All in all though, I'm pretty happy with it, but little things would make life simpler. Rating:

Reviewed by Caroline on 25/09/2009 I hate, hate, hate this phone. I second everything other 1 star users have said - slow, unresponsive, impossible to see screen in sunlight, pain in the arse to send texts, horrible input. On top of all this I have encountered several bugs in the 9 months I've had this phone - I had to do a factory reset because the audio completely stopped working, and in the past few days the sms ringtone has completely stopped working. I also had a problem early on where the phone kept switching itself off each time I received a call (turned out to be a known bug, found a solution online). Bottom line: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. To be honest I haven't begun to explore ALL the applications shipped with the phone, there are just so much it's great. The only thing that irritates me is that I haven't yet figured out how to forward text messages. On the drop down menu the 'forward' facility is greyed out. However, I still think it's a great piece of kit!! Rating:

Reviewed by Marcus - London on 19/08/2009 The phone has all the functionality of a top end product. A good camera, the ability to store large data and all the other tricks you'd expect from a premium product phone. However, the phone has an Achilles heel. In fact, it's more of an Achilles leg, or an Achilles two legs leaving it with nothing to stand on at all. The fact of the matter is this, the touch screen is absolutely useless, to the point when even dialling a number is a haphazard and frustrating process. Calls are frequently rejected instead of being answered as you get the phone out of your pocket and as for texting or emailing, it takes an age. None of the other benefits of the phone matter a jot if the thing can't be managed on this basic level. Until there is a version with a keyboard or keypad, I reccomend you stay well away. Rating:

Reviewed by agent404 on 03/07/2009 I agree with a lot of complaints listed by the reviewers here but bear in mind it's a WinMo device so is infinitely customisable. When I first got it, I wasn't happy with some of the features (or lack of) and the slow operating system and shelved in favour of my trusty Sony Ericsson K810i. After a couple of months, a friend told me about some custom firmware you can download off the net and also various shell interfaces so I gave them a try. Now, I've got exactly all the functions I want from a phone installed on my Omnia. Anything I'm not happy with, I can change or update. Its a great piece of kit if you have a bit of patience and know how to modify it. Rating:

Reviewed by Mat on 15/05/2009 Compelled to write in defense, great phone, its only real downfall is touch screen is a bit annoying to use but you’ll get used to it, the Samsung keyboard is rubbish and the normal keyboard is a bit to small. Used WM for ages so knew what how set it up to make it easy to use. Set the today to WM 6.1, and configured the top side button to go to most common app, messaging, put the next most commonly used apps in the start menu and set the “Samsung today 1” in the today>item menu. Don’t use the widgets or overload the menus or add anything else to the today items. Everything is now easily accessible. My previous WM device had a jog wheel on the side, this is the best method of scrolling I have come across, but the little touch pad comes close, its only fault is that It continues to scroll after you’ve stopped, but it’s probably a setting somewhere I haven’t bothered to set. All bad reviews seem to focus on things that people have set up wrongly or where they haven’t bothered to read the instructions. Camera is a little disappointing for 5mp giving washed out colors and a bit grainy in bad light but I’m comparing it to a proper camera. RE Battery and the device crashing. For the first couple of months I admit, this phone almost ended up in pieces. It was constantly crashing. At least once a day and always when you needed it the most. I would receive an important call only to find that the device had completely locked, or I would be in a rush to check email before going somewhere without a signal, but I would have to remove the battery and restart it (this can take a while). I cured this by downloading the latest unbranded ROM flash. This not only had the benefit of fixing the crashes, the battery life has now gone from just about a day to 2 or 3. And the best part is that now the orange branding has been completely removed, what they had done to this phone I don’t know!!!. Now it is as Samsung meant it to be. It still occasionally crash es (once or twice a month) but this I think is down to a conflict with MS reader and the auto screen lock. Oh yes…16gb ram and space for another 16gb . The reviewer who complained that she put 1 song on and it filled it up…read the instructions. To sum up, imagine every phone/pda/gadget ever made rolled into one, its only flaw being that it’s good at every thing but not the best any single thing (apart from techy nerd stuff). Rating:

Reviewed by Stan on 10/05/2009 Have had the phone for about 5 months now with T-Mobile. Very happy about it after installing SPB Mobile Shell, especially version 3.0! Touchscreen works pretty well, although for the precision control I tend to use my fingernail than my actual finger, and it works very well. The only let down to me would be the battery life. I'm not an intensive phone user by any means, and the phone can just about last 2 days on average usage. I have to recharge it daily though. I'd recommend turning off wifi, bluetooth etc by default. Reduce the frequency of email send and receive, and little things like that to sustain battery life. All in all, very satisfied with the phone. Rating:

Reviewed by Owen on 01/05/2009 This is not a great phone. Sure, it has good graphics and a reasonable layout. Talk and listening quality is fine and the battery life is OK. I've had this phone less than two weeks, and already it's become buggy. The touch screen sometimes won't respond at all, or it responds slowly. It's actually difficult to change the ring tone, because the touch features make scrolling through a list of options difficult without accidentally choosing one of the options before I'm done scrolling. And when I do change the ring tone, the phone reverts to the default (Windows Mobile) within an hour. That doesn't matter, though, because the ring has now stopped working, and no matter what options I alter, my phone makes no noise when ringing. These are just a few of the software problems I've encountered. These are basic functions! It doesn't matter how excellent the graphics are, or how good the battery life is, if I cannot perform the most basic functions simply and quickly. Rating:
Reviewed by Adam from Leeds on 01/05/2009 I've had this phone for a few months now and to be blunt, I hate it!! Good Points I tend to buy a phone more for how it looks on the pub table than what it can do as i only really use it for calls and texts! For this function, it looks good! And to be fair, I do quite like that I can get my emails through to my phone (not a unique feature though) Bad Points One of my biggest gripe with the Omnia is that Texting is ridiculously difficult! Even using the little stick that comes with it (which you can't really use in public without looking like a tit). The buttons that you need to hit are way too small meaning texting takes ages and can be really frustrating. I have pretty much given up texting all together and just call people. The Camera is not what you would expect for 5 megapixels, but it does the trick. If you want to take amazing pictures buy a camera! Now for the BIGGEST ISSUE with the Omnia - everytime i use the radio for more than 15/20 minutes the screen crashes. The phone is still on and working but the screen just stays black, i have to turn it off then back on to restore it! And if that's not bad enough - the phone crashes completely whenever it wants too! This is completely random so if it dies in your pocket you won't realise and will probably miss calls/texts etc! My opinion, wait a couple of months until the new version of the iphone comes out, it's got everything and is soooo much easier to use!! Rating:
Reviewed by Bob'syouruncle on 30/04/2009 I have had this phone for almost a month, it is a good phone, but things are lacking. The interface was very user friendly and easy to navigate my way around. Making calls, was, okay, can be very annoying when you press "call sender" then you have to confirm the persons number every single time before the phone will process the call, the call quality was average. I had high expectations when I got this phone, battery life lasts a day (average daily use was 150 - 200 texts, hour phone calls, 5-10mins on wifi). Texting was an iffy, you could text very easily on the phone and the predictive does help to a certain extent, but sometimes pressing "reply" to a text notification would send you to the reply screen but it locks out the text option... Annoying – which means you have to exit the inbox, then go back into it again! And if you accidentally tap on the text message when trying to scroll around it will blow up the text message full screen and you have to tap the screen repeatedly to get out of it, or scroll all the way to the bottom. For a Smartphone I was utterly bewildered that it did not even have a Countdown Timer!! The only way you could get a sufficient one was to pay! And you don't get any simple timer, no, you get these sporting timers... Pretty ridiculous. I was first off impressed with learning how to use the device but as time went by the bugs became more apparent and more frequent which means you would have to turn off the device and reboot it. Like any computer using Windows! This was annoying as I'm a person that doesn't turn off their phone, not at night, not at charging etc.. Battery life and ease of communication is key. The camera is good, but the flash can be too powerful and often you get very white faces. The video recorder is very good, though. I would recommend this device to someone who requires decent technology but does not communicate that much and doesn't need to have it on 24/7. At the end of the day it’s a good attempt at a touch screen, it beats the iPhone, but I feel that Windows have made it a little too sluggish, even with the latest firmware, there are some issues that still need to be resolved. But it didn’t fit in with my personal requirements and I’ll have to put some research into other phones. Rating:

Also the phone continously drops calls when switching from network to network, sometimes I have to call the same person back about 5 times through a 5 minute call!! I have been with Orange for over 10 years and I will NEVER return back to them once my contract expires as they are not prepared to do anything apart from replacing it with the same model (same problems). Reviewed by Marcus on 15/04/2009 Despite the vast functionality, the memory, the clever tools and all the applications available, the one, key problem with this phone is ultimately it's downfall. The touch screen is useless. By useless, I mean that quite literally, that it is without use. Even with the stylus, which has no space to stow on the device, so is a cumbersome addition, the screen is wildly inaccurate making texting, emailing and even dialling a telephone number a haphazard chore. You can choose from a variety of text inputs (qwerty, phone pad, keypad and even handwriting recognition) but none of them provide any sort of reliable method of inputting data and text. This sort of flaw is one which the phone just cannot get over. There is no benefit to the other many facets of the phone if you can't interact in an easy and instinctive way. For this reason alone, the phone is a true dead weight. If Samsung add a keypad/board, as with the latest Tocca, then I can see the next incarnation of the Omnia being a working hit, but at the moment, it's a useless piece of junk. Rating:

Back to Omnia, I got this phone and I played around with it and the best thing about the phone is it's camera & looks, yes the camera & looks!! everything else was just a joke, the gps struggles to lock on to a satelite, when you want to use wifi to browse it keeps looking for the GPRS to connect and what killed it for me was the security pin lock, when activated the phone doesn't ring out and it answers itself without you touching any thing, yes it does, so if this was activated and you get a call you will not know you have a call that's been picked up, it just like you putting the phone into your pocked and it dials someone without you knowing. I took it back to vodafone and they could not tell me why and they said they are looking into it, the was no rom patch or software update for it then, I am not sure about now, I just ditch the phone. It crashes, touch flow was just a shame on Samsung trying to copy Iphone because it was not responsive, tuning the phone off is holy wa r and to switch it on is like a 386 pc running windows 7 with 128mb when the recommended was 1.5ghz processor and 2gig memory, when I installed tomtom navigator on it, it doesn't connect to the satelite, you have to download a file called GPSgate free for 7-10 days and when the free period runs out you have to pay for it (compare to my XDA Orbit), the battery was like you holding a water in a see through nylon bag and pierce it in 10 different places with a niddle, even using it in a flight mode was not helpful, imagine if you have the bleutooth, wifi and phone one at the same time, you will barely manage to get an hour use out of it. I took it to Finland and I was taking pictures with it, it only lasted for an hour so I really don't know why this site have rated this phone as outstanding, you could really mislead someone to buying thing phone and they will only come back to say the 2 letter word and I know you are not stupid to know what that is!!! Reviewed by Sudeepa Basu from India on 28/03/2009 I am the CEO of an internet based company that sells its products in over 200 countries since 9 years.
I bought a Samsung Omnia mobile phone (being an early customer of the product) having seen their advertisements and limited reviews on the internet on December 8, 2008 for Rs 35000/- (cash down). 2 months down, my phone started to have problems with the charger. I gave the phone for repair to Samsung's service centre (Samsung India Electronics Pvt. Ltd. CC-28, NEHRU ENCLAVE, KALKAJI), on the 9th of March 2009 and was told that the phone's charging part needed repair and also that the USB part is damaged (I only transferred photo’s from my phone to my laptop). Then Samsung informed that this repair will not be covered in warranty as there is a damage. And I am billed INR 9300/- for the repair.
Now, I am extremely disappointed that Samsung Omnia is such an unreliable phone even though great claims are made in their advertisements. Secondly, Samsung takes no responsibility of the defects in their phone (such a high value item, and not any ordinary phone). I am now forced to use this defected phone (I do not know how many more problems I am going to face), definitely I cannot rely on this phone now for my contacts, data, photo’s and workability (I am already having to manage without my phone for 3 full weeks now).
After my constant follow up Samsung's Service center manager Ms Kusum Agarwal over the phone told me that they will repair the phone free of cost but by now i am clear that i want a replacement of the phone with a brand new phone (same model) to which it has been 2 weeks and there is just no responce from Samsung. I purchased Samsung Omnia phone keeping in mind my work demands but now , i am sceptical of its reliability to keep my contact database and other critical documents in the phone. Till date Samsung has not made written communication all the information is given on phone which has no record. Samsung's website and no contact email or phone number of any manager or employee so there is no way the customer can contact for grievience you only end up calling the frustrating call center who have no decision making power other than just giving u the service centers number.
I just hope whoever reads this review does not buy a Samsung Omnia Mobile Phone and gets cheated by Samsung like me. I have been without my phone for 3 weeks now and managing without my contacts database and on top of that wasting my time and energy on all the follow up on Samsung. Rating:

Second greatness: 16 GB memory (+ 16 GB more on microSD), try to beat that! Third greatness: the display is quite excellent to view widescreen videos. I use Core video player, not the troublesome Touchplayer. Fourth greatness: WinMoPro 6.1, you can have almost unlimited possibilities of 3rd party application. Fifth greatness: with the proper firmware update, it surely is fast and 99% crash-free. Sixth greatness: it's one of the most sleek and stylish mobile phones out there. With all those greatness why should I give this only a 3 star? Well, for a start, the absence of any but touchscreen qwerty keyboard is a big drawback, especially for a clean freak like me! I like my screen to be shiny at all times, and it can be hard with the touch qwerty keyboard. Also, without any tactical respond, typing can be a real pain (haptic touch doesn't help), especially those with huge thumbs like me . The absence of dedicated loudspeaker is also a no-no, considering Omnia is a powerful video player device, the sound coming from the ear piece is frustratingly low for video playback (but embarrassingly loud during phonecalls). Sending multiple files at once with bluetooth is also impossible - extremely annoying for me. The GPS is a big yes, but so far I haven't been able to use it, even though my device comes bundled with GPS software and map. Turning on the GPS application and leaving it to cook for over one hour still does not give me my position over the map. As of the interface, yes, I adore the finger-friendliness, but w hy does the stylus have to be divorced from the device? I would not be caught dead with the stylus hanging over the loop hole, so as a result my Omnia is stylus-free, but once it freezed while I was out on the mall I was pale from head to to for not being able to soft reset it due to the absence of stylus, I must open the back panel and unplug the battery. And talking about the battery, its life is quite long on standby, but drops quickly during usage, especially multimedia use. With minimum video playback, I have to recharge it every one-and-a-half day. Still, it is a powerful multifunctional device with great style, if you think you can live with my objections, go buy Omnia, otherwise chose wisely. Rating:

Reviewed by Jake on 27/02/2009 Got the Omnia as an upgrade based on this review, unfortunately it was on its way back to vodafone within 48 hours. I'm no slouch with technology but the complexity of this phone was ridiculous. In fact, I'd really stress that this is more of a PDA than a phone - it feels like a windows PC with telephone features rather awkwardly tacked on. My first key gripe is the sheer inefficacy of the touch screen interface: you have the ability to finger-scroll in some apps and not others and in the rare instances when you can (ludicrously, you can't scroll through contacts without the stylus) it feels indirect when compared to Apple's interface in the iPhone and iPod touch. My second gripe is a more general one relating back to the phone-tacked-onto-a-PDA problem: most of the phone bits of the Omnia feel counter-intuitive. Adding a contact onto a text takes at least 5-6 seperate selections, all the time without the ability to scroll without the stylus. Texting was rather irri tating and one thing I noticed when phoning a call-centre is that it is a complicated process trying to input numbers during a call. Another seriously irritating thing is the lack of a dedicated 'back' button a la Blackberry - again the stylus must be used (unless you have tiny fingers) to press the 'ok' button in the top right hand corner of every window to go back a step. It is rather misleading of this review to compare the Omnia to an iPhone as they seem to be based on different principles. While both falling under the umbrella term 'smartphone', the iPhone ultimately forgoes some features for its user-friendliness and the Omnia will please those looking for a powerhouse that needs some patience and tweaking to achieve its potential. I, however, was just looking for a phone which could actually be used, straight out of the box, as a phone... which is why I've now opted for the Soul. Rating:

The phone can be sometimes unresponsive but the same can be said of other smart phones (touchscreen or otherwise) I've dowloaded a couple of DVD's onto my OMNIA and they play beautifully. Shame about the samsung earpiece jack which is why I just use my old N95 as an mp3 player instead, which may account for my OMNIAS decent battery life. The OMNIA is one of those phone that you never get bored with because you learn something new about it every day. Combine this with it's supermodel good looks then you've got yourself a great, great phone, computer, DVD player etc, etc....Up to just, Samsung have created a masterpiece! Rating:

Everyone goes on about how fast and amazing the i "phone" is but really all that phone does is give you games that would seriously only keep a 5 year old busy. Also the verizon network has very very fast speed and it really annoys my dad when he is downloading a file on his iphone and I on my omnia and beat him with almost four times the speed. So if you hate the omnia because its "slow" or "hard" then obviously technology is not for you, becuase Specifically speaking the Omnia is faster then the Iphone figuring how samsung made the iphone processor, they are going to save the good stuff for themselves. Reviewed by Ian Crawford on 06/02/2009 This is probably the worst phone I have ever owned, my last phone was a Nokia N95. Then battery life is unbelievably poor. After the first couple of charges, I took it off charge one night at 8pm and by 23:30 the battery was flat. If I turn off wifi and bluetooth, and don't run anything I can get between 12 and 24 hours. You need to permanently go through the menus to the task manager and stop all tasks from running to save battery life. The sensitivity of the touch screen is also very poor if you go through the phone book and want to swipe your finger across the screen to scroll it tends to just open the first contact you touch, which makes it unusable. Windows CE also rubbish. The popup touch keypad covers up some of the configuration windows making it really difficult to setup. Reception is also rubbish, phones go off all around me while mine tells me there is no signal. The dangling stylus is a pain. When the phone is in my pocket it seems to activate, ev en when I have locked the screen. Anyone who gives this phone a 5 star rating is either a) delusional b) an anti-iPhone fanboy or c) had his phone donated for this review The biggest thing holding back the Omnia is still the same problem that afflicts all the Windows-based smartphones -the OS. For all its technical wizardry and high-performance specs, the Omnia is still sluggish, TouchWiz -while a step in the right direction for Samsung, is still some ways off of Apple's implentation, and that includes the newly sluggish iPhone 3G with its underclocked CPU. Menu navigation is slow, the screen is poor (especially compared to the refreshed Omnia now circulating in Korea) in direct sunlight, and the fact that so far none of the Windows Mobile-based smart phones are using capacitive touch screen technology yet is a joke! I sold my 1st-generation iPhone a little over a year ago because I was certain there was going to be a slew of Windows-based smart phones coming up that would be infinitely superior to Apple's offering. Boy, was I wrong. And I'm still wrong. The Omnia made with better materials, a brighter and sharper screen with capacitive (not resistive) touch screen technology, and the Android OS is going to be the iPhone killer. The rest of the specs kick ass. Until then, I'll stick to my iPhone 3G. Rating:

Mine came from t-mobile as a unit that had been returned to them from another customer. It arrived scratched, filled with someone else's photo's and with 3 pornographic videos on it. I rang and complained so they apologised and gave me a months free line rental. Cool!!!! free line rental and free porn. Anyway, the omnia has surpassed my expectations. I took it out on the street in strong sunlight and despite the reviews that I've read that says the screen is unreadable under direct sunlight, I had no problems. The battery life is also good (as mine was owned by a porn magnet who had run the battery in for me) as i found that 3 bars on the battery meter lasted me a day of relatively heavy use. The touch screen can get a bit laggy but is good enough. My concern lies with the fact that the networks are withdrawing omnia' s from their stores that's why I had to settle for a pre-returned model. Rating:

You have to phone them for everything and they hang up if they can't answer it. They've sent me 4 different versions of what they laughingly call a user manual so far. It still doesn't describe all the functionality or configuration options that experienced users might be able to work out. Basically, they assume you are either in the mobile technology industry, have loads of geeky m8s, or nothing better to do than waste 3 years of your life experimenting and posting to forums. It connects fine with the mac using Missing sync for windows mobile software from Mark/space (see Apple website). The camera is very good, pictures are a little washed out compared to a good digital camera but you can still get great results. Connectivity is outstanding, optical mouse great at first while you get used to the screen. One grumble - why does everyone give you a tiny pane for texting these days? Reviewed by Adam Phillips on 07/12/2008 I have been using this phone around two months and think I have a pretty good idea what is like. As a windows mobile device it is very impressive, as a phone it is not so hot. The main two main gripes that I have with this phone involving texting. The first is the actual inputting of the text itself, it is impossible to text with any speed at all, gone are the days of texting whilst not even looking at the screen like I could on my Nokia 6300. Writing a text message involves concentrating quite hard as you can guarentee that the touch screen will only correctly detect approximately 75% of your key presses in the phonepad mode whilst using your fingers. To make matters worse the backspace icon on the touchscreen is adjacent to the send button so you will quite often end up sending an incomplete text message when you intended to delete a character. You must also reduce the rate at which you press keys as the phone can not keep up with you if you text too quickly. Another problem with the texting is that when I read a message it quite often still shows up as unread on the phones front end GUI, I sometimes have to reread a message 2 or 3 times befor e the phone finally updates it to read, this is more of an inconvenience than anything else. There are also many problems with the messaging area of the phone and the input methods themselves. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to which mode of viewing a text you are going to end up in and switching between the modes is also a pain. On the input side you can quite often end up in a number only input mode when you wish to enter text, this happens not just in messaage but also using the browser, the "T" which can normally be selected to enter text mode somehow ends up shaded out and unselectable. This is very annoying as you have to leave the input mode and reenter, somethings having to refresh the page as well. On the plus side, this phone is great for watching media and its screen is very bright and sharp and also large enough to quite comfortabley watch a film, although the bundled touchplayer does not play the majority of Xvid files so I suggest trying to get hold of coreplayer which will play everything. The opera browser that comes with the phone is very good and renders all pages in a sensible and logical manner, browsing the internet in mobile mode is very simple and straightforward although viewing larger pages on the noraml internet is a bit of a bind as zooming in and out and scolling around the pages that are too bit for the screen is a little fiddly. The solution is simple though, if you want to browse the full web then do it on a computer, but for browsing the mobile web this phone is fantastic! The battery life is also pretty good and I get a few days casual use for one charge, this is greatly reduced if you watch plenty of media files but that is to be expected. The camera is also very good but I find that I have to hold the phone incredibly still in order to avoid blurring in the pictures that I take, but maybe that is just me. As I mentioned earlier the phone side of this device is pretty poor but the windows mobile device side is very good, if you really neeed to make a lot of calls and enjoy quickly sending texts then I would not recommend this phone for you, on the other hand if the need for a windows mobile device or mobile office in you pocket outweighs your need for a pracital phone then this could be just what you need. I bluetoothed some pics over from my N95 and after recieving 9 pictures said that the memory was critically low. Whereas the N95 has the same storage amount and had plenty of room even with near on 300 pictures on it and around 20 videos. The videos imported, even though compatible with the Omnia, didn't play correctly. After setting email up it works when it feels like it (which isn't very often). The MMS doesn't recognise the media taken from it's OWN camera. I am very disappointed after being very excited on reciving my handset, now I am not. The first night I had it I got that annoyed and angry with it ad it cannot do the simple things that a phone should do. You shouldn't have to download any extras on this phone in order to make it work. Its expensive enough as it is. The replacement lasted for about 2 weeks before displaying insane tendencies then would not even start up. So while it worked it was good - the touch-screen is actually very annoying, but that's just my preference I guess. But with 2 handsets packing up it's time for the mobile bin for the Omnia. It will be interesting to see how many very happy current users discover that reliabilty becomes an issue; unless I have been remarkably unlucky with 2 duff handsets, which I've never experienced before with any other phone. There is an option to come back of of stuff, it's called the cancel button, or just exit the app. With regards to active sync, when you first sync the device, you are given a list of folders that you can sync. Try unchecking them, thats what i do. You cannot blame the device for your lack of knowledge or preparation. This is not a mobile phone it is a smart phone. If you felt that you could just pick it up like a Nokia and be at one with it, then you are being quite ignorant (considering you work in IT, you should be aware of how fiddly Windows is to set up). Reviewed by Desperado on 12/11/2008 For a long time both my wife and I have used Nokia phones, my wife needed a new phone and having seen other people with a Samsung we were pushed in that direction. Having read the review above we decided to go for the Omnia – Oh dear!. Now bear in mind that we are not young (early 50s) but I work in IT. I couldn’t possibly begin to count the number of times I have threatened to smash the phone to smithereens with a hammer. You see the thing is I don’t think it does anything well. Trying to operate the phone is a nightmare, trying to send a text takes an age. Using it as an internet browser is a nonsense and it keeps trying to tell me the URL I am typing and won’t go to that address. When I used Activesync it tried to download 4,500 songs from my laptop, it does this every/first time unless you have set things up in advance, and the picture quality from the camera is ok but it’s not so easy as using my camera. The other thing is with the operating system there is no consistent way of doing things and very often no option to ‘cancel’ or back out. On a practical note my wife has just been shopping, I suspect the phone was not locked, so I called and effectively the phone automatically answered as the vibration caused the screen to touch something else and therefore answer. This happened 4 times, it even put me on hold; I’d love to know who tests this stuff. All in all if you are over the age of 19 I would actively encourage people to get a phone that simply does what it says on the tin. If you want to browse the internet compose documents and spreadsheets get a laptop because if you persist with this device you will end up stressed out, needing glasses and completely frustrated. - oh and a few quid lighter when you get a simple phone as its replacement. Landscape the keys were big enough but I was texting at half the speed :( It's not that difficult to figure out, I guess but I couldn't spot where text delivery reports are stored, even though I turned that option on... Reviewed by evelknievel on 22/10/2008 This phone has definitely been overhyped. I have read a number of the other reviews. I have been really disappointed. Let me confirm I am not an Iphone owner and do not intend on getting an iphone... I dont have an ipod and dont like the itunes system so dont think that the reason for my review is that!!!!! The reason is because the screen is unreadable in daylight. I have never had such problems before from previous samsungs or Nokia phones... I used to swear by Nokia. they were the best phones back when I bought my 1st mobile and had another 4 Nokia's before I converted to Samsung. Again I was so impressed with the ease of using Samsungs I went from flip screen (with no camera) to camera flip phone then D600 and D900I etc etc. My last phone was a Nokia N95 and I was really disappointed how slow and clunky the phone was... ... That was until I used the omnia for the first time. It has been dreadful. Why do people review so highly stating that they know it is a slow poor operating system and they have to put up with that... and rate it as OUTSTANDING!!! I would not buy a car with no engine but say it was outstanding because I knew what I was buying... a car that would not drive or do what it is supposed to do but because I knew before I bought it - say it is outstanding. It just doesn't make sense!!! The phone needs a lot of work downloading and updating before it will run ok. When I buy a pc I want the operating system and everything to run perfectly from day one... I do not want to take it out the box and have to mess about for 4 or 5 weeks setting it up and making the most basic of features work before I can use it. Straight out the box this phone is terrible. Suitable for students and IT geeks who have nothing better than to spend hours and hours personalising and upgrading the phone but for a bloke like me in his 30's - with kids. Busy at work each day and very little spare time in the evenings and weekends to "play" with my mobile... it is quite an annoying an un-user friendly piece of kit. I would steer clear unless you like slow unresponsive, too small to use your fingers touch screen that crashes and freezes and goes terribly slow. and runs out of memory. Overall its not logical to use and I have had this now for 3 weeks. I am putting my sim card back in my Nokia N95 I will no doubt give the omnia as a Christmas present to one of my nieces or nephews who will love it and probably be able to access NASA or the MIR space station... but I cant even set the blooming alarm clock!!! Really... why is this rated so highly when its so fiddly and so poor overall? Rating:
Reviewed by Himadri on 22/10/2008 I am sorry to say that I had to return my Omnia back to Vodafone .I was extremely interested and eagerly awaited this phone . There were 2 things which caused major problems and I did not think I could risk a 18 month contract with those problems . First and major problem which prompted my decision was the complete abrupt disappearance of the 8 GB memory . I uploaded some Music to 'My Storage ' (8GB) . As soon as I started to play them the Music stopped . I went back to check the Storage memory which was still showing 7.3 GB left after I finished the download . I was completely baffled to see that the My Storage has completely disappeared from the phone . I frantically searched for the Memory but nothing but the phones own 91 MB memory remained . This obviously completely defeats the purpose of having the Omnia in the first place . I am also not a techie with Mobiles as many others in this forum . For an average user of Mobile phone , I have found it quite user unf riendly . I know 50% will agree and 50% disagree ,but that's how the phone is . You need to spend a lot of time with the phone to figure some functions out . The final nail in the coffin happened when my screen suddenly went completely blank and I could not get the phone to switch on at all , in spite of trying everything ,including full charging , replacing battery and removing and reinserting SIM. To top it all Vodafone's absolutely appalling Customer Services drove me mad enough to decide that I do not want a replacement phone but a cancelltion of the Contract . ( Fortunately this was within 14 days of the Contract ) . Try and stay away from Vodafone if you can . I have now spent more than 3 hrs on the phone with some very rude people at the other side of the phone . Rating:
Reviewed by Ian on 21/10/2008 I have had this phone for a day now and it has already impressed me enough to write a review. I did a lot of research before deciding on this phone. The other contender was the i8510, but I decided that a touchscreen would be better for browsing the Internet and for applications like google maps and memory-map. Plus Windows Mobile would allow me to use memory-map on it (although I was very tempted to get a symbian phone for ViewRanger). After reading most of the reviews on here and elsewhere, I thought that the first thing I would need to do would be flash a new ROM. I also accepted that the GPS would not be as accurate as my dedicated road angel 7000 Adventurer, and I was not expecting much life from the battery. Therefore I was most surprised when I first loaded google maps inside my car and it locked onto my position within a few seconds with 8 satellites, and accurate to within a few meters. The next test I did was inside my house with memory-map running where I knew my road angel would find about 5 or 6 satellites. The Omnia locked on with 8 or 9 and the position seemed perfectly stable! I can only think that people who have given the GPS a bad review did not have all the A-GPS options enabled (I have an unlimited data pack, which I think is a necessity with a phone like this). I have not had chance to test the GPS performance when I am outside of phone signal range yet so maybe this makes a big difference?! First impressions of the GPS are that it performs excellently. Incidentally, if anyone is interested the Windows Mobile version of memory-map on the Omnia is far superior to memory-map on the Road Angel. The colours on the screen are brigter, the processing / scrolling is almo st instant, the software itself has many more options (night time mode, place finder for inputting GPS co-ords, ability to email/text position), and the device itself can fit more maps onto less cards (road angel does not have a SDHC slot so 2 or4? GB max), oh and the battery lasts longer (see below). Only advantage of the Road Angel I can see is that it is waterproof and rugged?! Battery Life: Well, I was expecting very little. The first charge is supposed to drain in no time, and you have to upgrade the ROM to get any kind of usage. Again, I was surprised. Maybe it was because I am used to a device like the Road Angel that will run dry in 4 hours if you are lucky. From first charge it ran for 12hours before I re-charged again. The screen was on for the majority of this time while I was messing with it for hours. Okay, if you are considering this device as a phone then 12 hours is very poor, but if you consider it is a multimedia power house then I think 12 hours is good! Especially from first charge and with the power draining default ROM installed. A lap top will only last for 1 hour on a battery, and this thing can basically do anything a lap top can! Maybe my advice would be that if you are looking for something that is purely a phone then look elsewhere. This device is practically a PC. WiFi seemed to work well for me too. I thought I would have had a lot of trouble getting it to connect to my LiveBox, since it has taken us a long time getting laptops connected in the past with the high security options set on this box. The omnia has loads of options for connecting to Wifi networks, and supports all of the security protocols that I could tell. I wouldn't say it was easy (took me about half an hour to get it connected) but it was just a case of nursing it the way you would with a windows PC. Once connected it didn't seem to hold a signal as well as other Wifi devices I had used but was fine for my purposes. It did manage to identify 5 or 6 other Wifi networks that belonged to my Neighbours however! The touchscreen seemed responsive enough to me. Certainly happen enough with the sensitivity to make me think twice about upgrading the ROM. With the new ROMs the sensitivity must be amazing then? Well this review has already gotten too long so I will leave it there. This really is an amazing device which has the added benefit of being a phone too! Rating:

If the keyboard is such an issue for people, then download a bigger one. Google Pocket PC or smartphone or even Omnia. Trust me people this phone is the ultimate must have. You can do as much as you want, or as little. If you were disappointed when you bought this, then you obviously bought the wrong phone. This is a mini PC running mini windows, you want an iPhone where everything is fixed and non customisable. Make sure you all update the ROM to at least DXHI2. So much more stable, quicker, better screen rotation animations, more responsive to touch, the power off button actually works when i get texts etc. So much more!! Reviewed by JF on 19/10/2008 seriously disappointed with phone as business device. Battery life is awful - about 8 hours or so. No dedicated button for voice memo recording. Can't find any way of accessing the 4 x digital zoom supposedly available. FM radio only works via daft non-standard jack. Stylus IS essential for many Windows Mobile apps and it's simply ridiculous that it has no integral stowage. Freezes regularly. GPS doesn't work with the camera - gives latitude but not long - but does work with Google maps. How to update firmware on i900 Steps taken to install new ROMs to my Samsung Omnia (i900): 1. Install Active Sync 4.5 (restart XP) if not already installed. 2. Install XP Samsung Modem Driver (restart XP) google it and obtain from Samsung website. 3. Connect phone with USB Cable & switch phone on. 4. Wait for Active Sync to say Connected. 5. Run the .exe Updater file. 6. Switch off phone or soft reset the phone & wait for the screen to turn off completely. 7. Switch on phone. 8. Update software should then detect phone. 9. Click the start button on the update software. 10. EBOOT, PDA, CSC, updates will process each in turn, then the USB port will disconect. 11. Com port will be found (if not refer to below note). 12. Phone, plus a few other updates will then be installed, updater will say 'Job Done' and the phone will reset. 13. Phone will take a few minutes to boot, then will auto reset for preconfig settings. If Com port fails at step (11) then do: At this point the updater will have failed to find a com port and the update now says failed, your Omnia will have hung on the boot screen with a full green bar at the bottom, but dont panic! This is because a new driver being installed to XP during this process didnt install in time during the com port search, so just wait for the driver message to pop up in XP saying something like 'Hardware is now ready to use' give it a 10 second wait, then close the failed updater application. Now re-run the updater application, and then press reset on your Omnia, the updater should again find your device, and you should now repeat from step (9), this time it should install all the way! Do not blame me, these are the instructions i followed to do mine. I have slightly amended the wording so it is easier to read. Rating:
