Reviewed by Charlotte on 27/11/2008 Had phone for 2 days, and one the phone as we speak sending it back as it is faulty. The MMS,video player, video calling and email doesn't work, after ringing 3 times to get it sorted and it hasn't worked. I bluetoothed some pics over from my N95 and after recieving 9 pictures said that the memory was critically low. Whereas the N95 has the same storage amount and had plenty of room even with near on 300 pictures on it and around 20 videos. The videos imported, even though compatible with the Omnia, didn't play correctly. After setting email up it works when it feels like it (which isn't very often). The MMS doesn't recognise the media taken from it's OWN camera. I am very disappointed after being very excited on reciving my handset, now I am not. The first night I had it I got that annoyed and angry with it ad it cannot do the simple things that a phone should do. You shouldn't have to download any extras on this phone in order to make it work. Its expensive enough as it is. Touch screen is rubbish, delayed responses, too small to write with your finger, and getting a sore finger from where the stylus rests. Vodafone had me on hold for 30 minutes and finally told me to ring a different number. Shocking...I am really annoyed... Rating:

Reviewed by Mac on 25/11/2008 Well, with all those features and great reviews I was really looking forward to getting my Omnia. And for a couple of weeks I was really pleased with it - everything seemed to work fine and it does look cool. Then basically handset 1 just packed up. The replacement lasted for about 2 weeks before displaying insane tendencies then would not even start up. So while it worked it was good - the touch-screen is actually very annoying, but that's just my preference I guess. But with 2 handsets packing up it's time for the mobile bin for the Omnia. It will be interesting to see how many very happy current users discover that reliabilty becomes an issue; unless I have been remarkably unlucky with 2 duff handsets, which I've never experienced before with any other phone. The palm treo pro will be my next phone. Hope you have better look with your Omnia's. Rating:
Reviewed by SHOKKA on 25/11/2008 To the haters below, you obviously picked the wrong handset for yourselves. Regards to switching itself off when put down or tapped?? Never happened to me, also, never read in any forum dedicated to Omnia too? Starnge. Alice from UK, change camera settings to save to My Storage. Looks like you have everything saved to device which has small memory and quickly gets full. I am now running the HK1 ROM, customised from PaSSoA. Check out Modaco.com. Oh, connectivity is always good. WIFI, etc no issues. The haters below, either cannot use the handset, or have faulty batch. These Omnia's are great. If you are on Orange or Vodafone, see Samusung site for firmware update. This update will improve the phones sensitivity and speed, as well as double the battery life. Get to it, google it. Oh, if the phone doesn't work, it's obviously a faulty handset, don't slate it if it's broke. Get a new one and test it. If you don't like this phone, try the HTC Touch HD or Blackberry Storm. These are similar phones. HTC is the best! Oh, the SAT NAV does wprk, just set it up mate. If you don't know or are using a standard ROM. Go to settings, system and Enhanced GPS, enable this and click XTRA download. Forget about Vodafone's FIND&GO, it doesn't work. Use Googlemaps, and you should get a lock on to at least 8 satelites within 20 seconds (afte XTRA download). If you have newer ROM HK1 or above then you have extra settings here, explains itself really!! Rating:

Reviewed by SHOKKA on 19/11/2008 Hi folks, me again!! If anyone has a branded handset, then the official UK update is available. It will give you a very upto date ROM (not as new as the custom ROMs, but not far away). It s actually HJ6 PDA and HJ1 Phone. You need to input your current version (the last digits after i900**HH*/) The Vodafone version is ACHH1 or ACHH2. Input this and download and follow instructions. You will notice immdiate differences, especially in speed and responsiveness of the handset and also added screen rotations, as well as 2 new apps (nothing special). Anyway the link is @ samsungmobile.com/support/omnia/index.jsp. Follow the website and enjoy your branded. It supports Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile i think. Wouldn't know as i use custom ROMS. Goodluck and enjoy. Rating:

So i thought i would try to install M2D to it so it looked as good as it performed. For some reason, i couldn't get a consistent internet connection with it. In the end i ended up flashing with PaSSoA's very nice M2D03 ROM which is wonderful, very stable and quick. But only 40mb free after my installs. Reviewed by SHOKKA on 13/11/2008 @ One Star Raters....especially Desperado. If you work in IT, you should know how imperitive it is to prepare your device for the activities you wish to use it for. I am 30, had phones for 15 years, this is my first Windows device. At first i was disappointed. Now i don't use the stylus at all. There is an option to come back of of stuff, it's called the cancel button, or just exit the app. With regards to active sync, when you first sync the device, you are given a list of folders that you can sync. Try unchecking them, thats what i do. You cannot blame the device for your lack of knowledge or preparation. This is not a mobile phone it is a smart phone. If you felt that you could just pick it up like a Nokia and be at one with it, then you are being quite ignorant (considering you work in IT, you should be aware of how fiddly Windows is to set up). You should of got any other samsung handset, other than this. Admittedly it is fiddly to set and, but when you have, i t works a treat, i have no issues with mine Rating:
Reviewed by Dave on 12/11/2008 I've got an Omnia i900 and I don't like it. You have to use a slylus to drive it, cause alot of stuff on screen is so small. To make a call you need to push too many buttons. When writing texts the keypad gives no feed back, and owing to the location of the send button at the bottom left of the screen I find I often send texts prematurely when your selecting the pqrs button. The GPS stuff is good though, as is the internet browsing capability. Rating:

Reviewed by Desperado on 12/11/2008 For a long time both my wife and I have used Nokia phones, my wife needed a new phone and having seen other people with a Samsung we were pushed in that direction. Having read the review above we decided to go for the Omnia – Oh dear!. Now bear in mind that we are not young (early 50s) but I work in IT. I couldn’t possibly begin to count the number of times I have threatened to smash the phone to smithereens with a hammer. You see the thing is I don’t think it does anything well. Trying to operate the phone is a nightmare, trying to send a text takes an age. Using it as an internet browser is a nonsense and it keeps trying to tell me the URL I am typing and won’t go to that address. When I used Activesync it tried to download 4,500 songs from my laptop, it does this every/first time unless you have set things up in advance, and the picture quality from the camera is ok but it’s not so easy as using my camera. The other thing is with the operating system there is no consistent way of doing things and very often no option to ‘cancel’ or back out. On a practical note my wife has just been shopping, I suspect the phone was not locked, so I called and effectively the phone automatically answered as the vibration caused the screen to touch something else and therefore answer. This happened 4 times, it even put me on hold; I’d love to know who tests this stuff. All in all if you are over the age of 19 I would actively encourage people to get a phone that simply does what it says on the tin. If you want to browse the internet compose documents and spreadsheets get a laptop because if you persist with this device you will end up stressed out, needing glasses and completely frustrated. - oh and a few quid lighter when you get a simple phone as its replacement. RTFM - yes I did I would rate that less than the phone. Rating:

Reviewed by Q on 09/11/2008 In the first instance maybe I should be addressing this to SHOKKA as you seem to know how this phone really works. I have bought the phone (i900) a week ago from Singapore, as this is the only place in Asia I could get an english language version. I live in HK. Sadly I have since found out it is not supported for email or web access in HK. So essentially I have bought (what has been touted as a great phone in all the reviews) a phone that cannot really deliver what is promised. Equally this problem apparently, according to the tech I spoke to at the Samsung store here in HK means that my i900 is not supported for email or web access anywhere else in the world??!! Can anyone verify this for me? Who in this day and age makes a phone that cannot be used in all countries around the world if they have the infrastructure to support this type of phone. Sadly I now have to buy an iphone!!I dont really want to. Is there anyway of rectifying this issue or can someone tell me this techie from HK is wrong but with a solution please to my dilemma, would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Q Rating:

Reviewed by Rick From Aberdeen on 06/11/2008 You know when I first got my hands on the omnia it was a daunting piece of kit, but I managed to get into it but something’s just did not sit right with me, such as the incredibly small text when looking for a contact (the a-z listed on the right hand side) required the use of the stylus. The way the phone always locked when making a call rendering the keypad useless. The inability to select recipients for your text messages using just your finger (again stylus was a must) Also the method and software required to rip a DVD to your phone took ages and was far from straightforward! it just wasn’t right in soooo many ways that today I took it back. bye bye Omnia nice try but no cigar Rating:
Reviewed by SHOKKA on 06/11/2008 @ Karim El Rawas** You need to use Task Manager, or soft reset the device by using the stylus and putting it in the little hole next to the power on button. If yo experience issues like this, hard reset the device in settings and start again. Everytime you open a program, the device doesn't really close them when you exit (some do). So you have to use task manager (or other app) to close them down. Soft resetting will clear any stuck apps etc. If not phone for you take back to shop under 14 day cooling off period clause and get different phone? Rating:

Reviewed by SHOKKA on 31/10/2008 Come on folks, just admit that this phone is amazing. I have big hands too, and rarely use the stylus (except to soft reset when phone frozen). If you install SPB Shell with SPN Skins then you have a soft reset option in the tools menu. Quite a few of my friends have iPhones or N96s. To be honest they are always moaing that they can't do this or that (especially the iPhoners). Being able to send MMS or forward text/MMS is a standard mobile phone service. If your phone cannot do this then please do not say that a phone that can (Omnia) is rubbish. Peter below put it very well, he uses the phones for all sorts of purposes. I live in Manchester and have iGo 8 installed with World maps, works a treat. Will come in handy when i eventually travel the world!! If you are looking for a media player Coreplayer works very well. I travel all over the world for work and, with the installation of some freely available software, use it as an all in one travel guide, phrase book, camera, email checker, MP3 player, and even as a phone (sarcasm for the 1 and 2 star givers). When the phone reboots, you will be asked to re-align the screen. Regarding SPB Skins. I assume that you have SPBShell running ok, and registered? There are trial versions that last 2 weeks or something and then the icons stop working. You need to download the lastest version from imarche.net (3.1 at time of writing). Extract skins and install to your phone, no specific place. Go into scripts, run the mortscript file. Now click on the install file, select english and the rest should be fine. If you are running a previous version, delete it all and re-install a fresh new folder. You shouldn't get many issues with it, i haven't and i have been using it since 2.0. To anybody else reading this, this phone is not slow, you just need to keep it running smooth (by keeping an eye on Task Manager, soft resetting if a program doesnt work as it should - soft reset by sticking the stylus in the hole next to the power on button, get a temp file app to keep it clear of junk, get an anti virus if you surf the web a lot, i use f secure. Don't install lot's of unecessary app!) Just look after it. People who moan about the alarm not having snooze, download a free app (i use G Alarm, it's great, has snooze feature and a maze that you have to navigate to access the snooze which can be turned off if you don't fancy fiddling whilst half asleep). Whatever your need, this phone can see to it. If not, download an app to do what you want. It's a PC!! Most people just listen to the specs and expect it to perform miracles. YOU ARE ALL MISSING ONE HUGE POINT, THIS IS A PDA/SMART PHONE/POCKET PC. NOT A MOBILE PHONE ON IT'S OWN. Stop getting products because it looks nice or sounds good. Had an upgrade and opted for the Omnia and am returning it after two days... mainly because the battery life (if you like to keep the phone on all day i.e. not in hibernation mode) is only 14 odd hours :( The touch screen keypad was pants too. Landscape the keys were big enough but I was texting at half the speed :( It's not that difficult to figure out, I guess but I couldn't spot where text delivery reports are stored, even though I turned that option on... Also there's no snooze on the alarm :( And you can't add multiple details for the same contact :( Odd things to complain about but I had the N95 and had grown used to those features... Reviewed by Himadri on 22/10/2008 I am sorry to say that I had to return my Omnia back to Vodafone .I was extremely interested and eagerly awaited this phone . There were 2 things which caused major problems and I did not think I could risk a 18 month contract with those problems . First and major problem which prompted my decision was the complete abrupt disappearance of the 8 GB memory . I uploaded some Music to 'My Storage ' (8GB) . As soon as I started to play them the Music stopped . I went back to check the Storage memory which was still showing 7.3 GB left after I finished the download . I was completely baffled to see that the My Storage has completely disappeared from the phone . I frantically searched for the Memory but nothing but the phones own 91 MB memory remained . This obviously completely defeats the purpose of having the Omnia in the first place . I am also not a techie with Mobiles as many others in this forum . For an average user of Mobile phone , I have found it quite user unf riendly . I know 50% will agree and 50% disagree ,but that's how the phone is . You need to spend a lot of time with the phone to figure some functions out . The final nail in the coffin happened when my screen suddenly went completely blank and I could not get the phone to switch on at all , in spite of trying everything ,including full charging , replacing battery and removing and reinserting SIM. To top it all Vodafone's absolutely appalling Customer Services drove me mad enough to decide that I do not want a replacement phone but a cancelltion of the Contract . ( Fortunately this was within 14 days of the Contract ) . Try and stay away from Vodafone if you can . I have now spent more than 3 hrs on the phone with some very rude people at the other side of the phone . Rating:
Reviewed by evelknievel on 22/10/2008 This phone has definitely been overhyped. I have read a number of the other reviews. I have been really disappointed. Let me confirm I am not an Iphone owner and do not intend on getting an iphone... I dont have an ipod and dont like the itunes system so dont think that the reason for my review is that!!!!! The reason is because the screen is unreadable in daylight. I have never had such problems before from previous samsungs or Nokia phones... I used to swear by Nokia. they were the best phones back when I bought my 1st mobile and had another 4 Nokia's before I converted to Samsung. Again I was so impressed with the ease of using Samsungs I went from flip screen (with no camera) to camera flip phone then D600 and D900I etc etc. My last phone was a Nokia N95 and I was really disappointed how slow and clunky the phone was... ... That was until I used the omnia for the first time. It has been dreadful. Why do people review so highly stating that they know it is a slow poor operating system and they have to put up with that... and rate it as OUTSTANDING!!! I would not buy a car with no engine but say it was outstanding because I knew what I was buying... a car that would not drive or do what it is supposed to do but because I knew before I bought it - say it is outstanding. It just doesn't make sense!!! The phone needs a lot of work downloading and updating before it will run ok. When I buy a pc I want the operating system and everything to run perfectly from day one... I do not want to take it out the box and have to mess about for 4 or 5 weeks setting it up and making the most basic of features work before I can use it. Straight out the box this phone is terrible. Suitable for students and IT geeks who have nothing better than to spend hours and hours personalising and upgrading the phone but for a bloke like me in his 30's - with kids. Busy at work each day and very little spare time in the evenings and weekends to "play" with my mobile... it is quite an annoying an un-user friendly piece of kit. I would steer clear unless you like slow unresponsive, too small to use your fingers touch screen that crashes and freezes and goes terribly slow. and runs out of memory. Overall its not logical to use and I have had this now for 3 weeks. I am putting my sim card back in my Nokia N95 I will no doubt give the omnia as a Christmas present to one of my nieces or nephews who will love it and probably be able to access NASA or the MIR space station... but I cant even set the blooming alarm clock!!! Really... why is this rated so highly when its so fiddly and so poor overall? Rating:
Reviewed by Ian on 21/10/2008 I have had this phone for a day now and it has already impressed me enough to write a review. I did a lot of research before deciding on this phone. The other contender was the i8510, but I decided that a touchscreen would be better for browsing the Internet and for applications like google maps and memory-map. Plus Windows Mobile would allow me to use memory-map on it (although I was very tempted to get a symbian phone for ViewRanger). After reading most of the reviews on here and elsewhere, I thought that the first thing I would need to do would be flash a new ROM. I also accepted that the GPS would not be as accurate as my dedicated road angel 7000 Adventurer, and I was not expecting much life from the battery. Therefore I was most surprised when I first loaded google maps inside my car and it locked onto my position within a few seconds with 8 satellites, and accurate to within a few meters. The next test I did was inside my house with memory-map running where I knew my road angel would find about 5 or 6 satellites. The Omnia locked on with 8 or 9 and the position seemed perfectly stable! I can only think that people who have given the GPS a bad review did not have all the A-GPS options enabled (I have an unlimited data pack, which I think is a necessity with a phone like this). I have not had chance to test the GPS performance when I am outside of phone signal range yet so maybe this makes a big difference?! First impressions of the GPS are that it performs excellently. Incidentally, if anyone is interested the Windows Mobile version of memory-map on the Omnia is far superior to memory-map on the Road Angel. The colours on the screen are brigter, the processing / scrolling is almo st instant, the software itself has many more options (night time mode, place finder for inputting GPS co-ords, ability to email/text position), and the device itself can fit more maps onto less cards (road angel does not have a SDHC slot so 2 or4? GB max), oh and the battery lasts longer (see below). Only advantage of the Road Angel I can see is that it is waterproof and rugged?! Battery Life: Well, I was expecting very little. The first charge is supposed to drain in no time, and you have to upgrade the ROM to get any kind of usage. Again, I was surprised. Maybe it was because I am used to a device like the Road Angel that will run dry in 4 hours if you are lucky. From first charge it ran for 12hours before I re-charged again. The screen was on for the majority of this time while I was messing with it for hours. Okay, if you are considering this device as a phone then 12 hours is very poor, but if you consider it is a multimedia power house then I think 12 hours is good! Especially from first charge and with the power draining default ROM installed. A lap top will only last for 1 hour on a battery, and this thing can basically do anything a lap top can! Maybe my advice would be that if you are looking for something that is purely a phone then look elsewhere. This device is practically a PC. WiFi seemed to work well for me too. I thought I would have had a lot of trouble getting it to connect to my LiveBox, since it has taken us a long time getting laptops connected in the past with the high security options set on this box. The omnia has loads of options for connecting to Wifi networks, and supports all of the security protocols that I could tell. I wouldn't say it was easy (took me about half an hour to get it connected) but it was just a case of nursing it the way you would with a windows PC. Once connected it didn't seem to hold a signal as well as other Wifi devices I had used but was fine for my purposes. It did manage to identify 5 or 6 other Wifi networks that belonged to my Neighbours however! The touchscreen seemed responsive enough to me. Certainly happen enough with the sensitivity to make me think twice about upgrading the ROM. With the new ROMs the sensitivity must be amazing then? Well this review has already gotten too long so I will leave it there. This really is an amazing device which has the added benefit of being a phone too! Rating:
Reviewed by Jon on 21/10/2008 After all the hype and reviews about this phone i must say that the phone is average. the menu screen just looks plain & ugly and the phone hardly ever totally recognises the slide of my finger down the screen. Also people are right when saying that when out in the sun it makes the screen nigh-on impossible to see. These are things i use and must live with every day. If the keyboard is such an issue for people, then download a bigger one. Google Pocket PC or smartphone or even Omnia. Trust me people this phone is the ultimate must have. You can do as much as you want, or as little. If you were disappointed when you bought this, then you obviously bought the wrong phone. This is a mini PC running mini windows, you want an iPhone where everything is fixed and non customisable. Make sure you all update the ROM to at least DXHI2. So much more stable, quicker, better screen rotation animations, more responsive to touch, the power off button actually works when i get texts etc. So much more!! Google the ROM and follow the many forums to do it or look for mine below. ENJOY. Rating:

Reviewed by JF on 19/10/2008 seriously disappointed with phone as business device. Battery life is awful - about 8 hours or so. No dedicated button for voice memo recording. Can't find any way of accessing the 4 x digital zoom supposedly available. FM radio only works via daft non-standard jack. Stylus IS essential for many Windows Mobile apps and it's simply ridiculous that it has no integral stowage. Freezes regularly. GPS doesn't work with the camera - gives latitude but not long - but does work with Google maps. Install XP Samsung Modem Driver (restart XP) google it and obtain from Samsung website. 3. Connect phone with USB Cable & switch phone on. 4. Wait for Active Sync to say Connected. 5. Run the .exe Updater file. 6. Switch off phone or soft reset the phone & wait for the screen to turn off completely. 7. Switch on phone. 8. Update software should then detect phone. 9. Click the start button on the update software. 10. EBOOT, PDA, CSC, updates will process each in turn, then the USB port will disconect. 11. Com port will be found (if not refer to below note). 12. Phone, plus a few other updates will then be installed, updater will say 'Job Done' and the phone will reset. 13. Phone will take a few minutes to boot, then will auto reset for preconfig settings. If Com port fails at step (11) then do: At this point the updater will have failed to find a com port and the update now says failed, your Omnia will have hung on the boot screen with a full green bar at the bottom, but dont panic! This is because a new driver being installed to XP during this process didnt install in time during the com port search, so just wait for the driver message to pop up in XP saying something like 'Hardware is now ready to use' give it a 10 second wait, then close the failed updater application. Now re-run the updater application, and then press reset on your Omnia, the updater should again find your device, and you should now repeat from step (9), this time it should install all the way! Do not blame me, these are the instructions i followed to do mine. I have slightly amended the wording so it is easier to read. Rating:
