I am so frustrated about this product. though it is filled with so many features we cannot utilize them due to the less efficient battery that it has. Please give me some information to avoid this problem

I once had this phone, before a Sony W995 and my current phone which is a samsung galaxy s2. I bought the i8510 new from ebay and boy did I live to regret it. The Symbian OS on this particular phone was slow, ugly and worst of all it had some serious bugs. The worst being that it would randomly delete all my contacts on my phone and reset itself. To try to fix this I tried upgrading the firmware on the phone. But Samsung's updating software on windows was also so unreliable that it failed to successfully update my phone and therefore bricked it, through no fault of my own. So I took it to be repaired in the nokia phone shop (who also deal with samsung phones) in Chester. Except they couldn't fix it and advised me to send it off to be repaired. In addition to this they also returned my phone to me covered in scratches and dints to the screen and the back cover whereas when I gave it in to them the phone didnt have a single scratch and looked beautiful. So to cut a long story short I had to have the phone sent away by post 3 times where it was flashed by samsung and sent back to me, only for the Symbian OS to continue to delete my contacts and brick my phone all by itself. Somehow just trying to switch on bluetooth one day crashed my phone and bricked it... terrible operating system. The two things that this phone had going for it were 1) design (its beautiful and very cool!) and also 2) the camera for taking pictures (also the LED flash is far too blue and weak and practically useless therefore for taking decent pictures in the dark). Video recording on this phone wasn't bad for the time - video quality was acceptable but audio quality admittedly was very poor... the mic would easily be overpowered by any loud music at a music festival for example. The music player on this phone was ok but can't hold a candle to an ipod touch or music phone such as the w995. The quality of the dual loud-speakers however were very good if a bit of a strange - one speaker was noticeably less tinny and generally better quality than the other, which is a shame because if they were the same good quality then this would made the whole experience of listening to music on it even better. Battery life also wasnt great on this phone and the included software left a little to be desired since many were just trials... the worst being the gps navigator - if a phone has built in GPS it should at least come with some sort of free sat nav as most new phones now have. Browsing the internet on this device was pretty good for a phone with a keypad thanks to its touch-sensitive scrolling, but compared with modern touch-screen devices its now incredibly dated and lacks most of the features of the modern mobile browser e.g. flash, tabs etc. To summarize then, this phone is beautifully designed and is one of the nicest to look at (dare I say as nice as a galaxy s2 or iphone 4?), but is seriously let down by the Symbian OS and its terrible glitches. Camera was excellent for a camera phone at the time but video would now be considered very poor and audio quality for both incoming calls and outgoing calls were not this phone's strong point. The software that came with the phone wasnt particularly great except for the games (it did come with FIFA and a racing game).

Had this phone on 3 for over a year and its been one of the best phones i have had, as its been utterly reliable. I use my phone as my main camera out of convenience and have been very impressed with the results both inside and out, with colour, exposure and focus all excellent. video is not quite so good but still given acceptable results. The screen is bright and clear if just slightly too small for web browsing. Downloaded opera 10 which is very good. Music player is good and pumps out plenty of volume and a rich sound. I like rock music so a tinny sound would have disapointed me. The symbian OS has been reliable if a little on the slow side, especially if more than a couple of apps are open. Had no problems with dust under the screen, but this week i did get sand in the camera and the lens cover is stuck open. remains to be seen if this is fixable. Build quality is excellent, this phone has had a hard life but has shrugged most of it off very well and is still looking good, and all the buttons working and the slider feels as good as it did on day one. It was probably a 5 star phone when new but even in todays company it deserves a solid 4 for quality, reliability but lack of speed. Upgrading soon and think an android phone is the way to go if the hype is right. Thinking x10 or desire for good camera, music and screen.

Just an update following my comments in November 2008 a few weeks after first getting the phone. It worked perfectly until last June when it froze and wouldn't reboot. By that time the dust was getting into the screen but otherwise no problems. The phone was replaced under warranty in 3 days (thank you Carphone warehouse) and as I sync it with the computer on a regular basis, none of my data was lost. The new handset is now 8 months old and looks brand new, no dust and no problems. Upgrade time coming up. what next?

How I loved this phone! I used it for not quite a year and if only it had had a Xenon flash I would still be using it and probably until it would fall to bits! My previous phones had been Nokia N-series ones and this one works in the same way - only better. It made for a fantastic all round personal organiser and I loved it for that! Schedules, tasks and reminders at your fingertips and the best thing: reminders would be right 'in your face' where for somebody with my poor memory they need to be! The reason why I'm giving it only 4 stars is the dust under the screen problem. It doesn't impair things too badly but is annoying all the same. Seems like the design people weren't quite on the ball on that one! Altogether though (out of a fair few!) it has been my all time favourite phone!

A real great Cellular the Samsung i8510 and I loved it very much except that it does not come with a complete Manual, however I was able to download the full Manual today. Only one thing which I never believed could come out of the factory is that the earphone has one side of a cable which is about 5 - 6 inches and the other normal about close to 2 ft in length and I will have to contact SETAR in Aruba on Monday to see if this can be replaced. Hope not to experience any problem with the Symbian system freezing etc., All in all a great unit and I preferred this above the Blackberry's but that is my taste.

From the constant problems with the software meaning that the display doesn't appear when I open the phone even thought the backlight comes on, to the fact that the cheap black coating comes off in large chunks meaning that i had to spend ages removing it all to show the silver underneath just to stop it looking completely ruined. Avoid at all costs...If you're looking for something of this generation then stick to the N95 8GB black...If you're looking for something newer then the N97 or the LG-GD900 are far better.

DO NOT BUY THIS! I bought the phone about 6 months ago, and it pathetic. I had high hopes for it, but it's one of the biggest regrets this year. 1. The camera, although 8MP, takes rubbish pics. Blur on most pics, flash is ultra blue, the phone doesn't save camera settings, and the pics don't look as good as they do on the screen. 2. Dust under the screen. Everywhere. Can't get rid of it, and it just keeps getting worse. 3. SSSSSSSSSLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW. I can type an SMS and have it freeze on me. The software on this phone is so slow. To the point I can cancel an SMS, and it waits for about 5-7 seconds before it goes back to the main screen. I'm happy to swap this phone to anyone that has a nokia. I'll never buy samsung again.

Carphone warehouse replaced it with a nokia n95 8gb which has all the same features and no probs with bugs or anything.
