Reviewed by G. Hall on 07/06/2008 I have almost always used Sony Ericssons, and was trying a Samsung for the first time with this G800. Got this phone almost 48 hours ago, and have found no faults in it so far. Opened the box to find a sleek looking front, very nice looking. When I picked it up I was so glad to have a phone who's width feels like a phone and not a stick. Slid it up and down a couple of times and for once the slider felt like good quality and next tried out the buttons (after my last phone, Sony Ericsson s500i buttons falling off 9 times), turned it on and went onto the menu. The menu is easy to use, and I managed to change all my settings just fine. Next I went onto the camera: Honestly, I don't know why people have been having so many problems with the camera. I am 13 years old, and I have managed to change the settings to get a perfect picture as I would expect from a digital camera. Zoom is great and keeps quality, the Anti Shake has helped me greatly. I can literally shake the phone around whilst taking a photo of this computer screen and the words come out just fine. At first some pictures came out dark and blurry but after 10 minutes of setting changes it is working fine. This is NOT just a snap-and-go phone camera, you have to set it up correctly to get a high quality picture, as you would a digital camera. All the other features of the phone have been outstanding so far. I haven't put any music on it but will be soon. Thank you Samsung. Rating:
Reviewed by Emily on 06/06/2008 I got this phone a while back and ad no idea what to expect, all I knew was that it had a 5megapixel camera. When I first got it out of the box the first thing I noticed was its size. I prefer bigger phones personaly, but some of my friends refer to it as 'the brick' but even they have to agree it does look good. The camera works best when you're outside, the pictures are truely amazing. But when i'm inside I find the pictures look a bit blurry. I do like the self portrait camera though, it's really good quality pictures and it's easier to take pictures of me and my friends. I love the MP3 player on this phone, it's really good. As soon as a song is put on you're phone its added to the player (whilst with the Nokia Music Xpress phone 5600, you had to turn the phone off for the song to be added). The sound is clear with no annoying buzzy sounds you get from some phoes. Txting I find easy on this phone because I use my nails to type, but all my friends who don't have nails and use their fingers say its a pain. You can scroll as well to adjust the size of the text when you recieve a message which I thinks really good. Overal one of the best phones i've had, it suits me and works brilliantly, if I were you i'd get this phone! Rating:

Reviewed by marlebo on 09/05/2008 I find my self polishing my G800 every time I pick it up and put it away, could they make a more dirt/print atracting desyn? The front panel (slidy LCD part) is a bit shacky, maybe that's just mine. It is BIG and HEAVY and with 2x sliding panels makes it difficult to slip into tight pocket, what to do with it on those sunny jacketless days? Thier is a metal hoop at the botton for optional strap, this is very anoying because it prevents the camera from balancing on its base for a steady timer shot. The software/options are VERY limited maybe to enfisize that it is 90% compact camera 10% phone, I think it is a little disapointing in that, simple things like menu transparency and individual folder passwording. As for the camera, fantastic i'm in luv with the 3x opticle, it's not a simple point and shoot so you must have an apropriate set up for each condition. Most grief is indoor-medium-range shots, were exposure time is long due to low light and out of flash range, this is a recipy for motion blur. Rating:

Battery life is very good even if i use my bluetooth stereo headset to listen to music. It has some clever submenu's but thats where my enthusiasm for it ends. You cant theme it like a Nokia, it has no games, not that i would play them but why is there none with it? No wi-fi, the camera is poor unless your outside in the sun. Its to big and to heavy, this would be ok if the 'toys' added up to its baulk but they dont, not by a long way. Reviewed by Mark, Nottingham on 16/04/2008 I recently up-graded my Sony Ericsson W850i for the Samsung G800. What a mistake! It has taken me nearly three weeks to learn how to load music onto the phone (maybe I am just plain stupid). The phone simply refuses to synchronise with Windows Media Player. And, the handbook is completely useless and of no help. After phone calls and E-mails to my provider (Vodafone, who were clueless) and Samsung, I have managed to work it out. But, now I find that you can not use WMA files as ring tones or message alerts. I have had to use mp3 files. It also does not seem possible to change the theme, which is boing and black. And, it's useability (e.g. finding how to change message tones, etc.) is far from straightforward. I have not had a chance to rate the camera yet, but I will report back when I have. In my opinion, this phone does NOT compare well to the W850i, and I simply can not recommend it. Rating:

Reviewed by Gavin on 09/04/2008 This is easily the worst phone I have ever owned. To begin with, the moron charged with developing the camera on this phone decided it would be a good idea to let it take two pictures and merge them to create, if the camera is not held perfectly still (can't put on tripod without duct tape), a massive blur. True, it could catch detail with its impressive 5mp, but I've never managed to catch an image that has little enough blur for the number of pixels to make any difference. The camera was probably the best part of the phone still, though. Say you want to listen to music on it, with DAB radio and potentially 8gb of memory (which I have), you can only listen on the terrible Samsung headphones that come with it because Samsung have devised some sadistic 8 pin connector for everything. This also means you can't listen to music when you're charging it or route the sound into anything (speakers, cars, decent headphones...). My Samsung headphones broke, incidentally, one week after I bought the phone. None of this really matters because to get your photos onto your computer and to put music on your phone you have to connect this phone to your computer. Mine must be broken because the software simply refuses to believe the phone is there. Despite my computer already detecting it and installing the drivers. Now, these are merely the extras, this is a phone on top of all this. However, I've rarely noticed this, because it appears to have the weakest antenna in the world. Also if I leave it in the best place in my house for signal and just wait for a text message to arrive it takes roughly half an hour. Every time. This doesn’t really matter though because the battery is so small, sitting in the middle of the battery case surrounded by potential space, the phone can barely stay on more than two days. Which means if you forget to charge your phone one night, its completely useless the following night. And this is when I’m not playing music, because I can't, or taking photos. All in all, just a series of disappointments in a chrome case. Although, when you're not using this phone, or when it’s a long way away (permanently charging at home) it does make the world seem a better place by comparison. Rating:

Reviewed by Jamie on 06/04/2008 Had the G800 for just over a week now, upgraded from k800i. The reason i didn't go for the k850i was the k800i's constant freezing. Now having a 5MP camara from a company like samsung i was expecting top of the range image quality but it's far from it, one of the most annoying things is when you are about to take a pic the image looks perfect but when you press the button and look at the end result it's blurred and out of focus, 9 out of ten times!! The k800i picture quality is far better and is only 3.2MP! Apart from the very poor camera the phones ok, easy to work and looks good, perhaps a bit big and heavy but i would mind this as much if the size and weight was due to an excellent camera thou sadly this is not the case. I can not take night shots with the G-800, because it has not got the facillities for it, all the pictures come out black even if you can see the picture/subject clearly in the evening. I have tried a camera with a 1.3 megapixel and taken a evening shot, it came out as if it was daylight. In all honesty I could not reconmend this phone to anyone. The manual for the phone itself is a joke, most of the features you have to figure out yourself unless you are used to Samsung phones. Their are lots of things I can point out about the G-800. Despite the software problem on the N95, it seems to be a better phone. This is my opinion. Rating:
Reviewed by Al on 27/03/2008 Great phone - yes it's big but the features are good. Play around with the settings and you'll get decent indoor photographs. My main problem is the firmware. The slider has split and I was left with 2 useless peices of G800. During my use of it the phone was excellent. Shame it couldn't be a bit more robust. Would have gone for N95 but heard too many bad comments about it. The G800 looks fantastic on the outside, maybe a little big and clumsy but that is totally dismissed when you look at it each time you get it out. That is really the only good comment I have for it. First one I recieved started jamming when opened after only a day, the antenna was dismal, camera terrible, battery appalling etc etc but decided to try another in case of being a dud and guess what... exactly the same. Started jamming once again after one day of smooth sliding, antenna no good. The camera is beaten hands down by my old nokia 6230i and that is only 1.2 mp. The optical zoom is not worth anything on this phone, zoom and hold 5 mp, If thats true then I beat armstrong to the moon. If this is suppose to be the best camera phone on the market and closest thing to a real digi camera then I must have been sent the wrong phone. The photographers choice, is not this phone. Instructions are absolutely useless as well, might as well have written on them "Here it is, Good Luck!!". Battery lasts about a day and a half but can only put this down to the weak antenna at the mo. In High signal area according to the supplier but lucky to get one bar. Other phones have 4 bar upwards. Data transfer is diabolical as well. If this is such a high spec phone, why do lesser phones do so much better??? This is my first and last samsung. EBAY her it comes!!! Rating:
Reviewed by Essy on 10/03/2008 I got my new Samsung G800 over a month ago and i am very happy with it, i think its probably one of the best mobile phones i have ever recieved! It is large but very stylish and very well made, a much better quality mobile than the nokia N95.Its very easy to use for texting as the keys are spaced out and the camera is super and has a number of different settings so you can enhance your photos. The sound is amazing, very clear and crisp and i have no problams hearing my callers. I really did my homework on which mobile phone to get and went to every shop out there to hold handle and listen to all the phones available at this time, i can quite honestly say this is the best one yet!!! Reviewed by Kevin UK on 06/03/2008 This phone is outstanding my partner bought hers and I can honestly say this phone is great I intend on purchasing one very soon the camera takes great shots both indoors and outdoors it supports up to 4GB memory card so you can store loads of MP3's and pictures and videos the menus are easy to use the only disadvantage is the battery life could be abit better and the menu is in black and cant change it to something more colourful apart from that this phone is awesome I would recommend this phone than any other its better than all other 5mp camera phone currently on the market such as the LG viewty & the Nokia N95 buy this phone you will not be disappointed. Reviewed by Mike M on 04/03/2008 Phone is good, but is very thick and heavy. Easy to use, great disply, great camera, loads of features. However the music, radio and handsfree are totally unusable as the earphones are far to big to fit in my ears and because of the fitting into the handset they cannot be replaced. Do not buy unless you only want a great camera and handset, or have huge earholes. Rating:
Reviewed by Jon on 03/03/2008 Do not buy this phone!!! Anybody who has owned a k800i, k810i, k850i (and probably even some of the SE phones aswell), n73, n95, 6500 slide or lg viewty will tell you that despite the claims of the camera it doesnt even compare-its atrocious. Even following the instructions in posts below, picture quality is abysmal for the specification. The optical zoom is an ill-thought out frivelous and near useless gimick. Additionally, switching from an old nokia 6680 (my backup handset after i broke my k800i), i noticed a MASSIVE decline in reception and yet we havent even reached the worst point of the phone yet. BATTERY LIFE!!! I've owned the phone 3 days and had to charge it *4* times. Twice i've charged the battery to capacity early afternoon to find it empty when i wake up the next morning (one of these days, i didnt even make a call!). I sincerely hoped this was a battery fault on my handset only, but from what i've read below, it clearly isnt. The High-speed wap, another selling point of the phone might well be effective, but i wouldnt know. Whilst i was able to access 3G services fine on my 6680 (now nearly 4years old), i cant get enough signal strength to do so on the g800. It is going straight back. Rating:

Reviewed by Jan Hewlett on 01/03/2008 Bought the Samsung G800 a week ago and i absolutely love the fone, camera takes a bit of sussing out but once you have it's ok, downside is the battery, it's only lasting 23 hours and thats with only using it for an alarm in the morning, one 30 second download and 2 messages, going back to the shop on monday, hopefully they can say why, or i'm changing it....Battery life rubbish!!!! Reviewed by john Smith on 29/02/2008 Don't listen to these muppets that say this phone is rubbish, they are absolutely clueless and are more than likely giving this phone a bad review, cause they haven't got a clue on how to use it. The only thing I could fault about this phone, is that it is a little on the bulky side, but apart from that, it's class. Rating:

Reviewed by Carsten Kelm on 24/02/2008 At first all seemed fantastic, but then I had the same camera problems everyone experiences. I tried the James Thomson settings and it made a HUGE difference, Thanks James! On my phone the battery does not seem to last long at all. I even purchased a second one (Samsung org.) in case my battery was the problem, but the problem persisted. I found out that the battery (on my phone) does not get fully charged if I connect the phone on the battery charger while the phone is ON (although the battery indicator tell me otherwise). However, when I charge the phone while it is turned OFF the battery gets charged fully and it last therefore a lot longer. Perhaps some people out there have the same problem. Sometimes the phone rings once or twice but won’t except the call and I can’t ring out until I turned it off and then on again. I don’t know whether that is server related though. Otherwise, I am very happy with this phone! I had it for 3 months. Rating:
Reviewed by Jan McBride on 23/02/2008 I have just taken delivery of the Samsung G800, and have to admit it is bigger than all my previous phones, but seems well built and robust. I was really disappointed with the quality of the photo's I took indoors, they were really dark, until I read James Thompson's review on mobile-phones-uk.org.uk (6th Feb) followed his instructions and must say the quality of the photo's are much better. The instruction booklet that came with the phone was not much use in advising on camera settings, I'm also not sure how to upload the photo's to my laptop, so if anyone has any idea of how to do that, please let me know. Reviewed by Kelly on 23/02/2008 I really like this phone but wondered if anyone was having the same problem as me?
