Samsung G600 ReviewRating: Date: 23/11/2007 The Samsung G600 is an outstandingly good phone and is Samsung's best seller in the final quarter of 2007. Like earlier generations of Samsung slide phones, it's a very sexy-looking phone with a practical design. The slide design allows a large screen and keypad to be placed within a compact phone. We're pleased that Samsung have avoided the touch-sensitive keys of the U600 and have given the G600 a conventional user friendly keypad. The main selling point of the G600 is its excellent 5 megapixel camera. This may not match the quality of a dedicated digital camera, but with autofocus, 4x digital zoom and LED flash it does a pretty good job. The G600 also has a well-featured music player that can handle all of the popular formats, including Digital Rights Management (DRM) support. The onboard memory is 40 Mbytes, which is enough for around 10 MP3 tracks, and you can add a microSD memory card to expand the capacity. As well as the music player, the G600 has a built-in FM radio. The G600 has good connectivity, with USB and Bluetooth supported, including handling of Bluetooth wireless headsets. Although it isn't a 3G phone, it does support fast downloading over EDGE networks, and has a web browser and email support. The G600 is a quadband phone, so you can use it overseas without any hassle. Battery life is good, and we have no problems recommending this phone very highly.
Features of the Samsung G600 include:

Reviewed by Graham on 04/02/2008 The phone design is probaly the most decent design around, its just fantastic. I only got the phone today and the only down side of it is the Camera. Reviewed by bev on 03/02/2008 got the g600 about 3 months ago as an upgrade, im a gadget person and the phone was a bit of a let down, but after about a week i grew to love it! you can customise your own wallpapers ect ... but scratches and wear and tear show up well, the corners seem to wear off straight away, so i now have a black phone with silver corners. everything was fine ... until i recived a text message and couldnt read it, the buttons packed in and all i could do was press the on off button, or the camera button on the side... the phone loaded up fine but it was as if the buttons had been locked. totally gutted about it, samsung have always been a spot on phone to me and this has ended up being a let down with the hype that has been built up about it Rating:
Reviewed by paul on 03/02/2008 not as great as anticipated . Phone does do basic functions well and has the addedd advantage of being able to set multiple alarm times ( a feature i use regulary ) as well as an efficient messaging function ( with a problem lurking though i have to say ) . I have previously used Sony K800i and previous sony models but was looking for something slimmer that would be not as obtrusive in a suit jacket pocket . The phone is serving me well in the phone , text , alarm and size elements ... but it has some seriously annoying habits for a phone reputedly of its calibre . the camera .... rubbish...all pixels and no punch ...nowhere near as quick to access , rapid to respond and quality delivered as the 3.2 mp that the 800i had . very very dissapointing . blurred shots , no xenon flash , clumsy storage and edit facilty and utterly useless as a camera photo impromptu snaps . ( im very adept at photography and changing the iso numbers etc has no bearing on quality ) predictive text this is the lurking problem - great as you would expect in any phone these days EXCEPT .... turn the phone off or recharge and all added words vanish from memory ..very very frustrating . case paintwork looks great to start but chips away very easily around corners etc ( i do not abuse the phone by slinging it around ) but hey ho .. music storage and transfer ( ringtone use etc ) very very " round the houses " and could be a lot simpler although playback was good to balance out , the phone is neat , attractive and performs well as a phone ...but is nowhere near the multi media expert my 800i was ....had the 850i been a slimmer model it would have taken this phone to the cleaners . nice looking phone ...looks the part for business etc . and although i didnt think i used my cam on 800i that much ( although i did dispense with a full size camera for holiday last year and relied on phone with excellent results ) its obvious that i used and enjoyed it more than i did . G600 , great as a phone ok as a text platform and poor as a camera ....wait to see if Sony resize the 850i ( like they did with 800i ( to 810 ) and buy that instead. hope this helps Rating:
Reviewed by Ian on 03/02/2008 Overall this phone is very good, one of the best I've had but it isn't without it's flaws. The predictive text does not save certain words, and when it does it suddenly forgets them a few hours later (Sony's will save them for as long as you keep the phone). I'm not sure if its a generic fault but my phone was forever re-booting itself - I would be half way through a text and all of a sudden it would freeze, reboot and then be fine for a few days (Quite frustrating). The camera can be awkward to operate, it's very fussy about when it wants to work and is quite poor considering it's 5mp claim. However, the music player is excellent (although the sound is terrbile compared to some Nokia's), the battery life is excellent, the phone feels very solid and well made, slim and slender design that is comfortable to hold and the addition of an external microSD card is welcome on any phone. Overall a good phone, not perfect (but then what phone is), I'd be happy to recommend this phone to anyone who wants a good contract phone (it's not worth paying the hundreds of pounds that it sells for on pay-as-you-go). Reviewed by Philippa on 02/02/2008 This phone is fabulous, really great. The camera is a beaut, i love customising my backgrounds(this feature made me like it even more as i love designing things), the screen is really bright, and when i got it, it took literally 10 minutes to charge. Normally it would take at least 4 hours!! The only quarms i have are the lack of speed when texting or inputting numbers, and the buttons are a bit fiddly. The only reason for the 4 stars is the problems with the keys, but thats just me being fussy!! I have only had this phone for a few days, but can tell it will be really good!!! I strongly advise you to BUT THIS PHONE!!!!! Rating:
Reviewed by Jason on 01/02/2008 I will start by saying i am no phone buff. Got my G600 2 months ago after a failed upgrade on a Sony,No power upon screen-sound familier? Have had candybar & Flip,to which the latter i love and still have,Sharpe 770sh btw. Looks-Tip top but looks are not all.ok details Camera?i find awkward and nothing special although some nice touches in edit menus after all its sold on this CAMERA 5.0MP is it not? Phone top heavey when open, keys small but nicely finished and flush,no problems with build quality(to testify to this-i am a trucker and dropped it by accident a full metre out of my cab, onto the truck depot concreate floor,i looked down looking for bits and pieces, only to find a full working phone and a mere sratch, lucky?) I do not like the menus but do like the edit feature for menus,ie background colours etc,but just too plain. I am starting to like it now but when i make a call sometimes it goes dead like its ended the call,a quick flick of a button fixes this. Also donloaded tunes have been lost and no access to Mp3(at present)No problems to cause concern otherwise. My rating is based on contract renewal as i paid no money up front. Reviewed by Hayley on 31/01/2008 Bought mine about 4 months ago and love the phone itself. The problems you lot are having are that you cant use the phone properly - well learn!! YOU ARE USELESS. If you cant use phones properly you shouldnt have one! The ONLY problem with this phone is that, as stated below, it is archaic (spell it correctly if you want to make fault!!!!!) that you cannot use any other text message tones other than the four that come supplied however, I have been advised by Samsung that they are creating an online update (for you idiots out there who dont know how to use your phones thats an update that you use your software CD with and it will update the latest features for your phone) so that you can use other tones which is neat. IF YOU DONT LIKE YOUR PHONES - LEARN TO USE THEM CORRECTLY AS LIKE SOMEONE ELSE SAID, THE CAMERA RESOLUTION IS TOO LOW OR YOU ARE JUST NOT USING IT RIGHT!!! Rating:

The camera is really great providing you have the settings right and the whole thing is a joy to use. The best I have owned to date. Rating:

Reviewed by anne on 30/01/2008 my g600 restarts on incoming calls aswell - does anyone know how to fix this?? apart from this it seems to be a top notch phone although the camera quality isn't up to much and you can't change the message tones to personalised which is a shame. Rating:
Reviewed by Kathryn on 30/01/2008 It is a nice phone i like usin it, the camera is bit rubbish the pictures dont turn out very good even though i have set it to high, is not very good. The thing i have found is that the phone sometimes crashes and that it needs to be knocked on and off to restart it, and i dont like that fact that you can not change the message tone, which is a bit annoying. Other than themfew minor details it is a very nice looking phone. Rating:
Reviewed by Matt on 30/01/2008 The G600 is not without it's faults but overall is a very stylish phone. The weight of the phone was what first struck me it is very weighty. The screen is not what I would call scratch resistant although I only have it in my pocket on its own (I have had to get one of those aweful sock thingys to prevent not being able to see the screen by the end of the contract). I would also flag up the volume from the speaker it is very low and could do with being boosted. Texting is slow and not having the ability to change the incoming text tone is breaking a basic functionality IMO. Other than those few moans the phone works very well, the menus are quite intuitive and easy to use (this is my 6th Samsung) overall the good outweighs the bad. Rating:
Reviewed by Ben on 29/01/2008 Well, it has pretty horrible instructions, but I don't read instructions anyways. Once figuring out the camera, it's amazing. By defaults it's on auto iso, auto lighting, and the lowest resolution. These should all be changed according to the siutation and the quality. Each of these are easily accessable and toggled through the number pad. For all of you saying the camera is "rubbish" try it again with low iso, and high resolution. Also one quirk about the camera is if you use the buttom on the side of the phone to snap a shot it does an autofocus that takes forever. If you use the ok button within the directional wheel, it takes it instantly and usually looks better than with the autofocus. I also like the borders, and mosaic photos that can be taken. It's a lot of fun. The mp3 player is one of the best I've heard on any cell phone, and with some good stereo bluetooth headphones you have a very viable music player. I don't like corded headphones with it because the headphone plugs awkwardly into the side and that makes it fit strangely in your pocket. The browser is pretty lowsy, but you can easily download opera on it and have a great time browsing. The feel of the phone is top notch. It's thin and attractive but has a little bit of heft so you know it's made well. Call reception is loud and clear and have had no dropped calls with mine. With loads of features, a camera that matches or possibly beats the n95 and SE k850i, good construction, great mp3 players, customizable themes, and excellent call quality there is no reason to pass this phone. Reviewed by John from Cardiff on 28/01/2008 I've had a G600 since November 2007 and am very pleased with it. Initially I found the instruction book to be a bit of a pain and the menus not so intuitive as the Nokia or Sony. However, after a few days of "fiddling" and all becomes clear!. I feel sorry for the poor souls who do not have the patience or intelligence to get any sort of result from the camera! It's just a case of learning how to set it up correctly - pictures blown up to 200% on my computer have been outstanding. All in all, it's a very good phone - nothing in this world is perfect, and after all, it's only a 'phone!! Rating:

As you can imagine if it is doing this 7 times a day then you get fed up. Now i have had this handset replaced by o2 4 times, yet again the phone is turning itself off and on. Reviewed by John on 23/01/2008 OK, now I know some of the reviews on here are clearly written by people who cant write English properly and are confined to 'WIKID FONE SAMMSUUNG (sic)' but seriously listen to me for a second. Do not buy this phone. I had three in the space of about 20 days. The problem that kept recurring was that words that you stored when sending a SMS message would be there for about 5 hours (if you were lucky) but then they would be gone. The shop that I bought it from blamed it on everything from the phone needing a software update (I phoned Samsung direct and there is not an update available) to the sim being incompatible (I still don’t really understand this one but was assured by my network that this would not be causing the problem). Carphone Warehouse where I bought the phone from was particularly unhelpful and would not give me a refund of exchange it for another model. Finally out of desperation I took it to one of their main stores in London and they exchanged it for me. Other users that I have since spoken to have also encountered this problem. Have now swapped to the Nokia 6500 Slide, which I would recommend over the G600 as the camera on the G600 has too many mega-pixels for the relatively small screen so pixels bleed in to one another and the picture appears blurry. Yes have a few niggles like the inability to have different alerts for txt messages and the daft auto keylock but can live with these as after all it is a phone! Overall excellent phone! Rating:
Reviewed by Sarah on 21/01/2008 Had this phone for a few days now, and I do really love it. The only thing I would say is that if you are buying it because of the 5mp camera, you probably won't be that impressed! its a good camera, but probably not what you'd be expecting. At first there seems quite alot of menus to send a text, but once you've got used to it you'll find there are quicker ways to skip these. All in all a wicked little phone I think! Rating:

The camera takes bad photos so what if its 5 megapixels, the lens and flash suck. People will comment that a N95 or K850i will take a better photo maybe so. But in the few months time the G600 will have the better photo quality as the K850i will have a camera lens full of dust (behind where you can remove it) Much like my brother in laws n95 has dust under the lens. And now takes rubbish photos. Where as the G600 has a sealed unit where the lens is. My old W800i also suffers from a huge amount of dust under the screen and under then camera lens. Dust gets in every where on the sonys and nokias. The music player is great I compair it too my W800, however the quality is fine. These other users complaining are just too use to there old phones and need to adjust to a new phone. Battery life is good I get about 5 days, I dont talk al day on it so i expected it too be ok. All and all a great phone, my only complaint is i can change the message tone to a mp3. Thats why I give it a 4/5. Exellent phone, but perfect but certainly one of the better phones out today. Reviewed by JonnyD on 08/01/2008 I've had the G600 for a couple of weeks now, and as a means of making voice calls and sending texts I find it perfectly satisfactory. As one of the few people in the world who doesn't own a standalone .mp3 player of any kind I was looking forward to the music player functionality, but have been very disapppointed. The sound quality is OK, but I CANNOT get the phone to recognise the Artist, Album information at all - all tracks are lumped together under Unknown in each respect. This maybe because I have simply copied folders of mp3's from my iMac onto the memory card (I can't use the provided software at this only supports Billy Gates and his admiring hordes! One other unspeakably frustrating feature is that of the picture orientation. Let me explain: Take a picture in the portrait orientation, view it in the gallery as full screen - all is well. Set this picture as wallpaper - the picture has now been rotated and magnified to fill the screen. The only solution I hav e found is to rotate the picture in the editor - to make it technically incorrect, then it appears in the desired orientation as a wallpaper - ?????? Also the bumf states that it will play AAC formats, and these files weren't visible at all after loading onto the phone. Oh, and onelast thing - after copying music to the card, and inserting it into the phone it takes about 10 minutes (no exaggeration) to update before the music player will open - what is that all about???. I won't even mention the camera as these are just a gimmick on any phone - especially the horrible LED light that calls itself a flash. Rating:

Can anyone tell me weather or not you can get rid of it at all? Overall though even though i have only had this phone for a day i really like this phone, the message tone is much louder than the phone i previously had, with my old phone when i would recieve a message it would be half an hour before i go the message because i didnt hear it with this phone i can hear it sraight away. I think the picture quality is really good, i have a 10mp camera as well as the phone and now i would choose the pictures because i think they are perfectly good pictures and look even better when uploaded to the computer, however the camera can be a bit slow in taking the pictures. The menu screen is good looking and the options are clear and can be used easierly, i think the message tones could be improved as they are the same in all samsungs but other than that i dont see how people can complain about this phone it is amazing and worth the money :) I really dont understand how people are moaning about this phone it is amazing, i dont understand how it doesnt save the words to the dictonary when, when i input new words my d600 saves the word that i have inputted. I have heard that the n95 is nearly trhe same as this phone but the n95 is very slow! HOWEVER this phone is FAST and it is not slow at all! Rating:
Reviewed by Niamh on 08/01/2008 I decided to upgrade to this phone from a Sony Ericsson K800i, and was highly disappointed with many features of this phone. But aside from the obvious, such as the camera option, my main problem was with the predictive texting- I'm not sure if this is characteristic to all Samsung phones, but the option to save words is virtually useless, as it doesn't keep them saved for a long period of time. The soft slim key buttons also irritated me to no end when texting. These are two features which aren't normally reviewed in much detail, but I think are some of the important factors when considering a phone. I have decided I will not be keeping it. Rating:

I am satisfied with the phone however the camera is not that good for having supposedly 5MP however its not a big problem as i dont need to use it very often. i am now also haveing problems with the phone where i cannot send messages and i have to take the phone apart and switch it back on for it to finally work. in the time that the phone is not working propelry i also cannot recieve text messages which is very annoying as i have missed important texts before. i think the phone is a very smart looking phone and think the mp3 player is very good considering it is not a walkman phone. Overall i think the phone is ok, however it is over priced for what you actually get. Rating:
Reviewed by Stuart on 03/01/2008 I have had my G600 about 2 months now and basically I hate it! The gripes are too many to mention, but one of the main ones is, it don't save your dictionary inputs, which imo is totally cr*p! The camera is average to say the least and the menus are awkward and the key pad even worse. I also have no idea where my ringtones are, I know you can add em easy enough, but where are the pre-set ones and the same also goes for txt receiving tones? On the outside the phone is sexy, but on he inside it proper sucks. Give me back my Sony Ericsson now *cries* Rating:

Reviewed by PAUL on 29/12/2007 I have had the Samsung G600 for just over a month now (previous phone was a Sony Ericsson D750I). I like the slider action - very smooth - and that it feels more of a quality phone than the Sony. But on the negative side I have found the battery life to be very poor (getting no more than 3 days standby at present, even switching off at night). Other problems include T9 predictive text: I find that any words I add to the "dictionary" only stay in the memory for a few days and then get lost; I also find that even though I set the phone to always use predictive text it sometimes "forgets" this. One other problem is even though I've selected to NOT keep a copy of sent texts it still does! All in all I would say I preferred my Sony phone. Rating:
Reviewed by Muzni on 29/12/2007 Bought it last week. Fully satisfied. I'd lost my last phone (an SE), so was looking for a replacement. The crieteria I was looking: a simple but good looking, camera, flash, mp3 player, bluetooth and radio. Then I came across this phone, and fall in love with it. Quality built, simple but elegant. A joy to use and bring around. And then... 5mp camera...wow, its like a bonus. Of course it will not be as good as a stand-alone camera, but hey... better 5mp than 3 or 2mp, isn't it? The picture is quite good (make sure the setting is right). The sound is excellent. The sms texting is nice. The bad point is there are only four melody for the message (I can live with that!). And if you're looking for 3G, this is not the phone for you. I love it... it bringing back the joy for... well... making calls. Rating:

Reviewed by Richard on 25/12/2007 I have read the reviews and was put off buying this phone. I was going to get the g800. Then I saw both and went for this one. The g600 is the best Samsung phone I have owned. Its menu system is similar to all Samsung menus. It is slightly top heavy, but you can compensate by holding it further up. I simply do not recognise the phone reviewed here. The negative comments do not match my experience. I find the menu easy to use. It is easy to change the ringtones. The keys are decent sizes and well spaced. The ring volume good, the speaker volume good. I found the texting easier than my last two samsung phones. overall I am very happy that I got this phone. The phone is solid feeling. It has a metal frame. It is a pleasure to use. Rating:

Reviewed by Lou on 23/12/2007 My first Samsung and I am somewhat disappointed. I had the U700 first which was rubbish with touch sensetive controls so that went back and I got this one.I wanted a slim phone but one with a good camera so I compromised a bit. My wife's E250 Samsung takes a better photo and anything with flash is truly dreadful giving an overall blueish tint. I should have gone for a D900i which is slimmer but with a 3mp camera that seems to take super pictures. Battery life is fine and I use Bluetooth with car speaker all the time. Connects immediately in the car. Texting is too slow and you need to wait for the phone to catch up. Guess I will have to keep it for the moment but I still looking at my old Sharp GX30 which was built like a tank but took forever to take and save a photo. Rating:

Reviewed by - on 21/12/2007 The camera phone is definitely not a 5 megapixel. The quality is almost as bad as my old LG 2.0 mp. It is very much overhyped and falls short of all its promises. Rating:
Reviewed by - on 20/12/2007 I got this phone at the beginning of November, and haven't had any problems since I got it. People are always commenting on how good it looks, its pretty slim and slides easily up and down, I find it extremely easy to text on, none of the keys get jammed, I would say its much easier to text on then any other Samsung/Nokia/Moterolla. The camera is good, however it isn't all it is cracked up to be. There is no way I would ever use this camera instead of a proper digital one, however it does its job. The flash is good, and the effects that you can put on the photos are quite fun. I haven't (*touch wood*) have any troubles with it turning off when people ring me... or any of the key troubles people have been talking about. However, the music player is not very loud, so if you are a music player i would advise you not to get it! However I simply cannot praise this phone enough! :) There are no other faults, I would advise anyone to get this phone! Rating:
Reviewed by Lewis on 17/12/2007 After using this phone for about 10 minutes i found that it is quite easy to use and do not understand why people are complaining about it so much although i have to agree that that is a sorry excuse for an instruction manual, the rest of the contents in the box was rather good though, the headphones i was very happy with as it came with a set that rest in your ear canal to block of external noises, also it comes with a bluetooth headset that i have no use for, a 1gb memory card which i found very useful as i intend to use this for music alot. The camera is not as bad as people make out and produced some pretty clear pictures, i prefer to set the resolution to about 1280x1024 as i find the pictures come out clearer. The music player was quite impressive and i found was better than that of my w800i. The phone also comes with a theme creator software which lets you change the color scheme and set patterns etc. The phone is very comfortable to hold and looks amazing, the navigational keys are very easy to press and so are the numeric keys although i was worried about these as this is my first slider phone and i am very happy and expect to get more in the future, it was out of this and the sony ericsson w910i and i picked this as it has a much better camera and the music playing capabilities are great. Reviewed by Jan on 07/12/2007 I say this as I am still pretty annoyed that the manual for this phone is so basic its a joke. Most of the stuff you have to fumble throught yourself and second guess everything. I cannot find a slider tone anywhere, this is driving me nuts. I cannot get the text message page to be black with white lettering, also driving me nuts. The way this is looking at the moment is my son will be very happy as I'm likely to give him this phone and get my 1 year old Samsung D900 back from him, ok, it may have a 3 meg camera as opposed to the 5 meg with this one, but who cares, its much more user friendly. So disappointed. Rating:
Reviewed by jacques fair on 28/11/2007 The samsung g600 is a very good phone with 5 megapixels, LED flash and autofocus it also has external memory the phone gives clear and precise music. The samsung also avoids the touch sensitive buttons witch is good or bad for some people. The downside is that it costs £230.00 which is a bit stupid just for a phone. I think the samsung is a great phone but is a bit on the expensive side, if i were you i would wait until the prices come down until you choose to buy it. Rating:
Reviewed by kim on 21/11/2007 well, i think this phone is brilliant! had it for a few days now. Previously i always stuck to nokia - as i thought they really had the best phone but now they are left behind. After 15 years of Nokias Samsung has proven this is what a real phone is about. Other reviews complain about the camera but you just need to work your way around it and put it on max for good quality pics. The only down point really is the manual as it really doesn't cover everything and is basic as there are some great hidden features! Rating:
