I have this phone and I wish I didn't! It's sound (as many people seem to have comented on) isn't actually my problem! Infact nothing to do with this phone seems right, it's camera is a camera - nothing stunning, it's mp3 player may seem impresive but it has awful memory - it'll only take about 10 songs and it dosen't go very loud either! It's buttons are okish! Other than that it seem alright! If possible, I would give the rating of 0 stars - I think that explains it all!!!

This phone is really handy and useful for an average phone user. It's easy to use and has some good features. If your like me, and you want to have the latest features and use the phone to it's proper use well don't get your hopes up! The games are pretty average, the camera is good and you actually hold fair amount of songs but overall it's not all that great.. i mean the WAP doesn't even work. Evertime someone called me i could never hear it even though the sound volume was on it's max. I've dropped the phone like 100 times and it still works perfectly. Overall it's a decent phone and does the job.

I loathe this phone. Forget all the fancy features, the primary purpose of a telephone is to let you communicate with other people and here it falls down abysmally, both in terms of voice calls and texts. As so many have pointed out, the sound quality is awful - it is more like speaking into a walkie-talkie than a phone, people's voices have that messy, static quality. I am often told also that my texts arrive in several bits and sometimes parts of them don't arrive at all. Please don't buy this phone, you will regret it.

Awful choice of wake-up alarms, most would make you jump rather that wake you gently. Compact size fits neatly into jeans pockets, however the MP3 player lacks volume so if you set a downloaded tune as your ringtone, you're unlikely hear your phone in you pocket except in a quiet room.

Ok phone, looks okay, could be better. The camera is average and although the flash helps taking pictures in poor light its doesnt make that much of a difference, the camera effects and frames are also slightly dated. When I first got the phone i thought the screen was an excellent size but compared to most phones now its relativly small. The buttons are easy to use, well spaced and big. Lots of memory on phone which is good. All in all its fairly average but i've decided to upgrade mine for the LG Shine, much sexier....

This is a good phone and easy to use. Nice outer screen. V. good, sturdy flip-open design. Battery life decent - Charges quickly. Txting easy. Camera not too bad, with a good light on it! It has taken endless knocks and drops, and has been very reliable over the past three years. Only problem is that the E720 has the tendency to take pictures of the inside of my pocket. Also the sound of the conversation is a tad low for the hard of hearing, (but it didn't really bother me, I could still hear the other caller clearly.) So if you don't mind deleting all the dud photos it's a decent phone. But I am a bit bored with it now!

However there are 3 major faults: -There is no slot for a memory card. -The voice recording playback well, to be honest a mouse can't even hear it. - Try and play on any of the games and the phone freezes! Over the past 12 weeks it have sent this phone away 3 times (for 4 of these weeks it was not in use while i was overseas) and each time had to wait 2 weeks for it to be returned. This equates to 6 out of 12 weeks for repairs. Other things include no speakerphone and T9 not remembering words added to dictionary. MP3 player isn't the loudest but still does the job. Also had to have sound checked as call receivers complained of not being able to hear me. Am in the process of now trying to upgrade from this phone as its performance doesn't match the price tag.

Jesus Christ. I am getting sick of reading reviews about this phone where people complain about the T9 being rubbish and the speech and sound quality being rubbish. ONE - People who moan about the T9 not remembering one word, why not stop being lazy, and put the word in manually you lazy people. TWO - I have seen people put this in a review 'the speech quality is poor, you cant hear people so you end up repeating yourself', if you cant hear them, they would repeat themselves, not you. And THREE - The sound quality is 'rubbish'......COME ON!!! It is a mobile phone, you cant expect it to have the same bass quality as a bose cannon, and if it is that bad, why dont you try ripping your music to your pc to a higher quality, like 320Kbps, not rubbish 128Kbps. That way you will be putting on a better quality recording, so it will be much clearer when played back through the speaker. This phone is packed with excellent features and has a top build quality, god only knows how much of a beating mine has taken, but it still works! Oh, and another thing that bugs me that i often see...'the camera is rubbish quality, my digital camera is well better' - well duh... . If you buy a phone to do proper photography, not just to catch funny moments and so on like you are supposed to, you deserve to have the phone stolen by someone who is gonna use it for what it was designed for. And one more thing, if you listen to people when they say go for motorola, they are loads better, Motorola are pathetic, they have only just started puttin a more reasonable amount of memory in their phones, but it is no use, because they break before you get a chance to store anything on the phone anyway. OK?

Ok, so yes, everyones heard the problems of the e720's sound quality, luckily mine isn't so bad as it only goes muffled occasionally and I'm sure when I get a Bluetooth Headset for hands-free etc that I will ever encounter a problem. For those that are praising the D500, don't, it also has its flaws like with video playback, its rough, and I've known alot of people to have microphone problems with theirs. These faults aren't down to the different models, so theres no point in putting them at war with each other, its new mobile phones in general. Around 1/3 of new mobile phones today become faulty within the first few months, unfortunately, with the speed and delicate design/construction of mobile technolgy this is a price you have to pay (not always at the manufacturers expense). However, the e720 does have a sound issue, and I dont't understand why it doesnt have a Loud-Speaker function when it came play music etc loudly (I think this is where the distortion comes from, basicly a rubbish speaker). I bought the e720 on Pay As You Go though through Orange for £170.00, so Im not swapping it anytime soon, but overall its a good phone. Plays MP3, MP4, 3GP, stores your gifs, jpegs, and the cameras not bad at all, bluetooth is easy to use and works well too.

BUMER, it snapped again!!!! There we go, i've replaced the screen cover for the sixth time. Now what, it has yet again turned its self off, if only i couild use a memory card for the confidential word documenbt on here, as the memory allowed is far too small. |It rings randomly and automaticly connects to the GPRS sysem which last month cost me over $375 on my contract!! The camera I thought woulkd be it's redeiming feature, however, I'd have to say the camera is very jumpy and you would have more luck buying a 1960's brick. I would say on the whole the phone is awful, and to make life worse samsung are sooooo awful at creating phones there is not a singlre shop who knows how tho fix this attrocity!!!! You would find it easier to hear someone if they shouted from Austrailia than if the phoned you from this, as the soud quality is appauling. There is nothing wrong with my hearing! This phone really does have a problem with sound. Voice quality during calls is apalling. It is far too loud (even the lowest setting is deafening) but totally distorted. Sounds like the other person is sitting at the bottom of a fishtank with a sock in their mouth. I am sick of having to ask the other person to repeat themselves. I find texting fine, but the phone often doesn't remember the custom words you've put in, and if you save a sent message, it doesn't tell you the time/date of sending, which is something I find annoying. Yes, the display is good and I like the camera and video but during calls I just want to chuck it across the room or in the path of a bus. Maybe not all handsets are affected but you are taking a risk if you buy this phone. I am on my way to see what I can do to cancel my contract or get another phone before I go insane and end up with tinitus! Really disappointing.

I dun understand y ppl are recomending ppl to buy this phone coz this is a lousy phone compare to nokia coz my bf had been using this phone for about 3months already and guess what, the vibration was lousy and you can even feel the vibration when you put it in your pocket compare to nokia. You are able to feel its vibration or even shocked you when calls or sms are coming in. Besides, this phone's sound is too soft compare to nokia. My bf don't even realised whether there's a call or sms coming in. Where else my nokia 3310 and 7250i, i'm able to feel calls and sms coming in even as i'm asleep. Due to nokia's vibration and the loud sound you wont afraid that you will miss any important calls at all compare to this lousy e720. besides, it's so hard to copy the contacts from the sim card to the phone itself coz you'll have to copy the contacts one by one unlike nokia's phone you are able to copy the contacts at only one time. Txt messaging is so hard with this e720 compare to nokia again coz nokia's phone is user friendly that even ppl from all ages are able o use it even without reading the instruction where else even when you read the samsung's instruction you wont be able to understand what the instruction is trying to tell you. Besides, the self portrait is so hard to operate, sometimes you are able to take photo or take video and sometimes you cant. The phone is just simply lousy. and the charger should be standard like nokia which nokia's charger can be used for all nokia phones where else, samsung's charger can be used for certain samsung model and the old samsung charger unable to be used for the new samsung model. So its pretty inconvinient. If i want to commend on this e720, it'll take forever for me to write all of them down. so in conclusion pls do survey b4 u buy a phone and compare its pro and cons b4 buying them coz u'll regret them later.

The camera and video recorder is great as always, the sound recorder for some reason is a little off, which I don't understand since I assume it uses the same mic as the video recorder, which is fine. The mp3 player controls are handy but be warned - YOU DO NOT GET A CABLE WITH THIS PHONE, therefore after you fork out all the money for it you need to spend more money on a cable or on a bluetooth adapter so you can connect the phone to your pc to actually use the mp3 player, or transfer files. For the most part though it's a great little phone and I'd recommend it to anyone as at the moment, it's one of the best around. :)

My comments were not aimed at everyone, just the dolts who were insulting the people here who had reviewed the phone and given their honest opinion regarding the sound quality. They've already got a dodgy phone, I don't feel they should have been insulted for saying so. The whole point of this review site is to give a balanced opinion of the phones, so that people about to spend their money are aware of what they are getting. I agree with most people that the phone should be brilliant, but enough people have had a problem that potential buyers should be made aware. And please, if you're going to write a review try and write it properly. I mean what on earth is "dis fone iz da best video nd camera". It's not big, it's not clever and no-one is going to trust a review from someone who writes such rubbish. In conclusion, this phone is great as long as you're not unlucky enough to have one that you can't actually make phone calls with ....

That was a month ago and since then life has been brilliant. The E720 is great, dispite everything said phone calls are of a perfect quality and the features and functions are fantastic. I love this comment CJ made: "I can't hear the calls properly and it's bugging me. But it's ok if you don't make that many phone calls on it." Isn't that like saying my car looks great, the radio is brilliant, just as long as you don't drive it anywhere ? Idiot, why give it 4 stars ? And to the 13 year old reviewers who are slagging off people who have a problem with the sound, you probably don't notice it because your mates are too dumb and can't speak properly. There IS a problem with the sound, even if it's only with some phones and on some networks (O2?). If your phone is OK, then you're lucky. I wasn't and so I sent mine back. I'd also like to point out that my hearing is fine and I'm under 25! The added extras are fab, but if you can't make phone calls and the texting is a pain, then you may as well buy a camera and take even better photos ! BUY THIS PHONE AT YOUR OWN RISK !!!!!!!!!!!!

All in all I think I'm going to have to change it because I can't hear the calls properly and it's bugging me. But it's ok if you don't make that many phone calls on it.

I received a Samsung E7720 16 June; features are excellent, camera, MP3 player, but on making a phone call, the sound quality is terrible, its muffled flat and distorted. I was instructed to take it to an O2 shop to have it checked and they also confirmed the quality was not up to standard, so this was sent back. I received another E720 to replace the original, this also was the same. I am now waiting for my third E720 to check out. We will see. There are some comments giving grief to those who have found these phones to be faulty, obviously with so many complaints on the same fault, logically there must be some manufacturing problem with the Samsung E720 and the problem is genuine.

DO NOT BE FOOLED - THIS FONE SUCKS BIG TIME!!! I really really really wanted to like this handset, in my opinion it's the best looking clamshell on the market with fantastic features. Then I received a call - and things turned ugly! The sound quality of incoming calls is THE WORST I HAVE EVER HEARD - much much worse than you can possibly imagine. I liked everything else about the fone so much that I decided to keep it for a while to see if I could live with it - I couldn't. I have never submitted a review for any product before - and this fone annoyed me SO MUCH that I had to warn other people not to go near this nightmare of a handset. I know it sounds REALLY boring but a phone should be a communications device first, a plaything second - and as a phone the E720 is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE (and i'm a sucker for cool features). This is a great mp3 player, camera, torch and calculator but the worst telephone in the history of mankind - incoming calls are so bad your ears will vomit with rage! To sum up this phone is like a Ferrari with a lawnmover engine - great if you want to pose but people will laugh at you when you try to use it.

I've already posted a review, but feel I have to downgrade my rating. It seems that sometimes the sound quality is awful. I think the digital enhancement to remove background noise makes everyone sound muffled, and like some of the others on here I spent many conversations asking the caller to repeat themselves. In the end I have sent it back and will be returning to an ever-reliable though rather dull Nokia. Shame, Samsung nearly had the perfect phone, but at the end of the day it's no.1 use is to make calls and the no.2 use is texting, which with the annoying T9 problem is also a pain. It seems Samsung are neglecting the basics for the, admittedly excellent extras. I gave Samsung a chance and rang them on both issues. Apparently there is no way of defaulting to T9, although the woman on the phone seemed to think it "might eventually remember" (yeah, right). And apparently the sound quality is a fault and not a generic problem (although she offered this without me suggesting it was ... hmmmm).

I've read a fair amount of reviews before buying this phone, and was a bit worried about the speaker quality (and clarity). Now that I have it, I don't have to worry anymore; the speaker is okay, I can hear my friends alright, and they can hear me. It sounds a little creaky, but that's a very small price to pay for the rest that this phone offers. The videocamera is excellent, the camera nice and the mp3 player does its job well. Both of the screens look great, and with the wallpapers and the mp3-ringtones you can completely customize your phone. The only problems with this phone are battery life, if you use the features often you'll end up with an empty battery very quickly, and data transfer through bluetooth is annoyingly slow. Photo's are fine, but mp3s take ages. I wonder why Samsung didn't include a usb-cable in the package...

The first e720 I had I experienced terrible sound call quality, returned it for another one, really wanting to believe it was just a one-off, but the exact same thing is happening with the second brand new e720 I've gotten. I am going to have to downgrade, since I actually use this phone to make and receive calls. In areas of poor reception it just can't cope, and unless you get the full 6 bars you really struggle to have a conversation. Too many times I've had to 'call you back on a lan line' - and this is just not on. Some people have said it works fine, but don't discount the hundreds of others who have had the same problems as me!! We are not lying or making it up. I had the same network in the same area with my old nokia 3210 and sound quality was a million times better, so I know it is the phone and not the reception/provider.

It was slowing everything down. I was very disappointed with the voice quality. Nobody could hear me when i was talking. Several times the phone went down thinking there was nobody there. On the whole I really like this phone. I don't appear to have any problems with the sound quality. The good points: 1) It's small and pretty. 2) Great screens, nice menu, mostly logical. 3) Camera's pretty good, video suprisingly good. 4) Sound from MP3s and ringtones etc seems very good and nice and loud. 5) Battery life seems pretty good. The bad points 1) There's no way to set up predictive text as your default - if anyone finds it please let us know. Predictive text also seems fussy about what words it remembers. May seem a small point, but texting and calling are after all the 2 features used by most people and it's driving me nuts. 2) You can send a text from the contact list - which is easy enough. However if go straight into writing a text, when you come to send it, it asks for a list of numbers (which is just plain daft), to get to the phone book takes another 3/4 key presses - which is just silly and a right pain. 3) Couldn't get a video clip to work as wallpaper. Don't really care, but the phone/manual seems to suggest you can. I like the phone, but suspect I will be going back to a Nokia who undoubtedly are the masters at making a phone easy to live with (menu design etc). Assuming they sort out the physical design at some point - I don't want a brick and I don't have 16 fingers in a semi circle. Conclusion Up to you, but I'd at least wait until the next version of the phone's software.

I've spoken to Samsung and they told me I have a faulty phone and to return it to them. I've asked them if this is a common problem but the woman I spoke to just said it wasn't common but she had heard of it. Now of course they are not going to admit that there is a big problem with this phone as it could ruin the sales of this phone and dent there rep. Yes I know, thats what I am complaining about. The other really annoying thing about this phone is that the phone always defaults to non predictive text. You have to reset it to predictive each time you want to send a text. There are a lot of good features on this phone, however if you want to make phone calls without constantly repeating yourself or asking the person that you are speaking to repeat themselves then don't bother. Plus sliding phones get their main screens scratched alot, however the clamshell design is more practical and smaller. Although the d500 boasts a 1.3 megapixel camera, the e720 still has superb photographs. And also the e720 is much more attreactive. I know that there are alot of complaints about sound quality, but perhaps it was just a bad batch, for as i said mine is tuned to perfection. Or maybe the complaints are made by a secret organization trying to prevent you from buying this perfect phone and making you buy the motorola v3- i mean that may be thin but it's very wide- anyway it could possibly be true. What i would recommend is if your that worried about this phone but really want to buy it,is go into vodafone, phones 4u etc and ask to try one out and if your already on contract use that sim in the phone they give you to make a couple of calls to test it and if okay then buy it,at least you know straight away then.

The main thing that makes this phone poor though is the call quality, I didn't have one call where I could hear the person at the other end properly, I was constantly asking them to repeat what they had said and nothing I tried would improve this. I still haven't got to grips with the video or camera yet and I am a little mistified how to download sounds for the MP3 player. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Do I have to get in contact with my network provider to enable the browser and do I need a disk to use the download? So dispite this confusion I am well pleased with my purchase and as they say practice makes perfect! By t he way I haven't had any problems with the sound quality since adjusting the volume level. Enyoy your new phone.

A nice phone but no very good if you are a business user working in a noisy environment as you carnt hear the phone ring. The vibration is pretty poor as I couldn't feel anything in my pocket when it rang therefore missed calls. I have just sent mine back after 3 days and gone back to the trusty Nokia. If you want a nice little phone to play with and show off to your friends then yes the e720 is the one. If you need to be practical then my advice would be stay with nokia carnt beat them. Allan

Great look, much prettier than D500 but missing key features like automatic tri-band - have to manually change GSM each time, unlike D500. Screen quality is much much better but sound quality when making calls is amazingly awful. Wouldn't have thought it was a newer phone. Returning it - what a pity.

What a disappointment! I was expecting a D500 in a clam, but this phone is pants. I can hardly hear what people are saying when I talk to them. Answerphone is the same. What use are all the other gizmos if I can't make calls? Going straight back to the shop thank you.

Was going to get the Samsung D500, but I'm glad I waited, because now I have a D500 in a clamshell! The E720 really is as good as the D500, but the clamshell shape is better because the keypad and LCD screen are protected from damage and you don't need a key lock. The buttons for the mp3 are on the front so you can use the music player without opening the phone. Neat. Love the photo and video, and really would recommend this phone. It's the best!
