Samsung D900 Review

Rating:
Date: 28/11/2006
The Samsung D900 is a beautifully stylish and ultra slim top of the range camera phone. It is a sliding phone with the dimensions of 103.5 x 51 x 12.9 mm and weighs just 85g. It has a high quality magnesium surface in a sleek black finish.
The phone has a great 3 megapixel camera with 4 x digital zoom and video capabilities allowing you to record in MPEG4 format. It also has autofocus meaning that the camera will automatically focus on a particular subject instead of using a fixed focus distance helping to produce sharp and good quality pictures.
The phone has a TFT display viewable in bright sunlight with 240 x 320 pixels and 262k colours. This is a very good screen and among the best around at the moment.
The music player is stereo with 3D surround sound and a digital power amp supporting MP3, ACC, ACC+ and e-ACC+ formats. The Samsung D900i also has an FM radio.
The D900 has 60MB of internal memory and the option to insert an external memory card to increase the memory up to 512MB giving you plenty of room to store your songs and other files with ease.
This phone allows you to use MP3's as ringtones and supports a 64-voice polyphonic sound which means that it can play 64 notes simultaneously. The downside is that you are not able to use MP3's for your text tones, but on the upside, Samsung have made this phone capable of vibrating and ringing at the same time.
The D900 has great connectivity via Bluetooth, USB and TV-Output. Bluetooth enables you to wirelessly connect to another Bluetooth device up to 10 metres apart whilst connecting to a PC is done with a USB cable. The TV output connection allows you to view images and videos directly on a TV with the use of the document viewer as this enables you to transmit your files to a projector or present them on a TV or computer.
It connects to the internet with EDGE data transfer speeds. It is a full-function internet browser that gives you up to three times faster communication rates then GPRS.
This phone operates on a quad-band frequency so is capable of working in Europe, America and Japan. The battery life is relatively good with a standby of 350 hours.
Overall this is an excellent phone with great style and design as well as some really good features. It has an excellent camera, one of the best out at the moment, and considering that it is an ultra slim phone this is a great achievement. The MP3 player and supporting memory is also excellent. The bonus features with this phone such as the document reader and TV-Output are a nice touch, and we would definitely recommend this phone.

Features of the Samsung D900 include:

  • Camera: 3.0 megapixels with autofocus, flash, 4 x digital zoom
  • Video Camera: Video player (MPEG4, H.263, AAC), Video recording (MPEG4, H.263, AAC)
  • Display: 262,144 colours / QVGA 240 x 320 / TFT LCD
  • Music Player: MP3, ACC, ACC+, e-AAC+ formats with 3D sound and digital power amp
  • Java Games: Forgotten Warrior, Freekick, Arch angel, Cannon ball
  • Ringtones: 64-voice polyphonic ringtones, MP3 ringtones
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0, TV-Out
  • Memory: 70 MB user memory, micro SD™ External memory
  • Messaging: SMS, EMS, MMS, Email
  • Internet: WAP 2.0, GPRS Class 10, EDGE
  • Talk Time: Up to 6.5 hours
  • Standby: Up to 260 hours
  • Operating Frequency: Quad band (GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz)
  • Size: 104 x 51 x 13 mm
  • Weight: 93g

Reading these other reviews is like stepping back in time. I'm writing this in January 2010, still faithfully using my original D900 some three years after buying it. I like it so much I won't swap it for a newer model. Why replace a classic? I've bought a spare model, identical, which is sitting in the cupboard in case the one I've got ever breaks or gets stolen. The D900 is the best ever mobile phone.

Hello I just bought a samsung D900 ultra model the slimmer one for £30 in the post off ebay. Its a nice mobile phone everything seems good on it so far. Only problem I have noticed so far you cant put custom text message tones on there. Unless somebody changed the firmware or made something that can. Thats the only thing I find fault with so far at the moment. I would give it 5 stars but it gets 4 stars for the reason above. Also looking online this seems to be the biggest problem with the phone something so simple yet modern phone you cant change!

This is a good phone, I've had mine for over two years and it's still going, showing it's age a little though. I think a lot of the people giving it bad reviews just haven't figured out how to use it. It has a lot of features which aren't even mentioned in the manual which can make it quite confusing but they can all be figured out. For example, the guy who said his photos came out as mirror images, this is a feature you can get by pressing one of the volume buttons, the other button turns the image upside down. I don't know how people are managing to wreck them as no paint or anything had dropped off mine. The screen did break a while ago, but it was fairly cheap to fix at a corner shop. For taking photos, the sensor takes it's time, people getting blurry photos are moving the phone before it's done taking the photo. The charging connector is starting to wear out, so I think that'll be the end of this phone, but it's lasted very well and still looks cool two and a bit years on.

to all those reading this review DONT BUY THIS PHONE!! i bought mine one year ago and it broke just a few days ago , the screen would not turn on anymore.I know a lot about samsung phones as out family owns 6. But buyer beware this phone is riddled with faults and poor quality materials. 1. The keypad is absolutely horrible to txt on a it is too wide and too hard to press down and the result is CRACKED key pads. After about 2months the paint off the keypad started coming off and soon later the pads started cracking, i do not have long fingernails either. 2.The "ok" button in the middle of the keypad is an absolute pain in the butt, as often i would take the phone out of my pocket and find that the internet had been running for ages thus taking most of my credit. 3.The phone does not save sent messages! arrrgh in order to have messages that u sent you have to save each txt MANUALLY and to do this you have to open up the menu for each txt and clicked a few buttons for it to save wen sending. 4.The phone has an odd habit of shutting off at its own will and this seems to be a common occurence with most samsung phones. 5.the pridictive t9 is horrible 6.the charging slot is on the RIGHT side of this stupid phone so txtn while the phone is chargin is insanely annoying and the charging end keeps bpping out on the right 7.THIS PHONE DOESNT SLIDE WELL. i had always wondered if it was just my phone but my friend also has the D900i and trust me it is by far the worst "slide" phone made by samsung . Its stiff and so u end up haviung to press quite hard down on the screen and a lot of users have ended up having their screen broken so all in all just wanted to say this phone lasted me a year bought new.

I have owned two (I washed the first one, still with the second) and on each after about 2 weeks the slide mechanism has become awful. Its so stiff, you really have to force it to open it! I've sort of become used to it, but whenever a friend tries to do it, they simply can't, i have to do it for them! Good features though, only problem is that the camera really doesn't have auto focus, if i shake my hand even a little i get a very blurry photo that is almost indecipherable!

I HATE this phone. Previously I've had Nokias and Sonys and find the Samsung menu system very unintuitive and clumsy. Have had to refer to the manual several times to work out how to do simple functions such as select predictive text (*key) and select between different suggested words (0 key). Connecting to PC to view pictures/upload music was a nightmare, doesn't have standard small USB connection, you have to use the supplied software disc and cannot just view the files as a folder using a simple driver as with other phones. Also, you have to have the USB set to 'modem' in the phone menu, something I had to surf user forums on the net to find out, as it's not in the manual. Photos are almost as poor quality as my prevous 1 mp. All in all this phone has been a total pain, without any great advantages, and I will not be getting a Samsung again.

I would only recommend this phone to those who aren't into up to date features and only need it for basic uses. The 3 megapixel camera is NOT high standard and in certain lighting it is appauling resulting in grainy pictures. Another fault with this is that using the camera kills the battery in no time and when recording videos, the result is pixelated. I find i have to charge this phone every day, 2nd if i'm lucky, even when i do not use the camera.

Nice looking phone but had problems with both my original D900i phone AND the replacement phone with the screen freezing up. As a one off I would have passed it off as a dodgy one but with the replacement also having the same problems I would say it's a design fault. Easy to use but camera not very good as there is a good delay in the capture of the photos meaning the phone has to be held still until the pic has saved which is a pain in the arse. Video capture rubbish, sound quality rubbish. When I press OK to stop my morning alarm the camera screen opens up for some reason (as it did with the original again.. Design fault?). Battery port stopped working on the original phone, charger is difficult to put in... Very fiddly. Problems with the WAP too, sometimes it will connect and is FINE, then it stops working for two weeks which is quite frustrating. I am on O2 and although this might be a network fault I have to mention it, I can't get a signal, really struggle in a lot of places and it means that calls get cut short. Then I'll be writing a text and the signal will go, then a symbol will appear showing I have no signal and no matter where I go after that to actually GET a signal it will not pick one up again until I have turned the phone OFF then back on again. Great fun when you haven't the space on the phone to SAVE the text to come back to it. Hate to slate as it really is a cute phone, just a shame about the faults really.

The manufacturer said that they rerely see this problem and that it would not be a problem to fix it as it was problem a problem when the phone was made. The phone was sent back to Virgin Mobile and they said that it was user inflicted damage and despite what the manufacturer said they were not going to fix the phone. Hey! I have had this mobile for a year now and it is VERY good. It isn't to heavy and is easy to slide, and fits perfectly in your pocket. If you are thinking of buying a nice cheap mobile this is proberly the one for you. Well i would reccomened it. I have droped it millions of times and even wacked it against walls! and it still has not broke. Even when it is raining it don't get ruined. It is like imposible to break. Camera - The camera is NOT exellent, but is still useble. It attemps to go abit fuzzy after awhile and the lighting is not brilliant unless you are out side when it's not dark. But dont let that stop you from buying this mobile. Bluetooth - The bluetooth is very good on the phone. It is fast and when putting photos on the computer, it is even faster. It is ament to be one of the best bluetooth networking. Battery - The battery on this phone will last up to about 4 days. But even when it is on low battery, it last for another day and abit. Memory - As you don't get a memory card with it, you will have to but one unless you can only get one song otherwise. But it still hold up to about 50 pictures which is a resonable memory for a mobile at this price. It can hold about 100 text messeges and loads of contacts aswell. Internet - Well the internet is quiet low quality. But still works perfectly fine. You do have to pay for internet use but it isn't the end of the world. Other - You get a reasonale amount of entertainment, such as Java Games. But some of them are only demo's. But you can buy them for a good price. Also with this mobile you get Alarms, Calculator, Clock, Converter, Timer, Stopwatch etc.. Messeging - The keypads are very well made. They are spaced out and easy to press. Anyway, as it is one of the thinest sliders you can buy and is at a exellent price. I would reccomened this mobile to anyone who wants a easy to use, cheap and non breakable mobile phone. You can always ask me if you have any questions. I no quiet alot about this mobile. =]

OK, so I'm about 2 years too late for this phone but after reviewing all the newer Samsung range (& deciding I didn't want touch buttons or screen) and features vs. price (esp. here in Thailand) I decided to buy a D900i. Having had a Sony w800i for the last 18 months, I was ready for a change and Samsung have a little nostalgia for me as I had one of the first Samsung SGH-600 in London (showing my age there!). Anyway, after having to replace my phone on day 2 due to a defective keyboard light (minus half a mark for lack of quality control!) I've been busy re-acquainting myself with Samsung menus & OS, importing my address book and few wallpapers and screen savers etc. Initial observations; (1) It may be thinner than the W800i/SGH-600 but it's quite a large flat handset - might not be ideal for the ladies. (2) After first charge and a lot of use for set-up my first battery charge lasted only 1.5 days - let's hope this improves after 2nd & subsequent charges (it's supposed to with Li-On batteries. We'll see. (3) You CANNOT assign MP3 as Message Alert tones. I'm still searching for a site to download some additional options though (4) You CANNOT set SMS to automatically create a Saved Message upon Send - you have to use the Save and Send option instead. Not a huge deal but not user friendly in my opinion. It should've just been a configurable SMS option (5) There is no list of previous SMS recipients (ala Sony) so you have to choose from the Contacts each time - unless replying to an SMS of course. Again, not so user friendly (6) T9 Predictive text isn't bad but initiating the option for spelling new words isn't totally intuitive and I haven't found a way to edit my Dictionary/List of Words yet. I'll keep looking (7) User Manual isn't very comprehensive. Forum's on the WWW have pretty much saved me - esp. For e.g. USB connection via cable and Address Book sync via USB on Mac OS X. Samsung (apparently) say they don't support Mac but you can get third party plugins that do the job (8) Call quality doesn't seem to be as good as the Sony and even full volume isn't that loud (& I have removed the protective sticker from the screen!) (9) Using T9 to search contacts (one feature not on my Sony!) doesn't let you scroll through options for a given set of keystrokes (as it would in an SMS) e.g. 'Mile' to 'Mike' etc. What a shame! (10) There doesn't seem to be a way to distinguish between Wallpaper and Screen Saver or to change the Start-Up screen sequence. With the Sony, you could customise them all individually. Pity. (11) I've tried the camera (briefly - using all the best resolution settings) and I find the auto white balance a bit harsh. It also seems to take rather more darkness than I'm used to for the automatic flash to activate. For the rest, I like the look and feel of the phone. The overall build quality seems good esp. slider mechanism. I reserve judgment on the durability of the chromed plastic front. I've read that it can look shabby after a couple of months but I suppose it depends how you treat your phone.. Right now The D900i and I are just starting our relationship. So, there will be some 'settling in' required. Same as with any new phone. They all have their quirks. I need to say right now that the W800i was not perfect in my view either, nor my previous Nokia come to that. I guess it depends how you 'think'. They all have unique selling points and someone should design an OS that takes the best features from them all. That would be a great phone.. I'm a Usability Consultant - gis a job Samsung!

It's a really good looking phone and lots of things to really personalise it and make it your own. I only got the phone because of the 3megapixel camera, but was really dissapointed with the quality, all the pictures i took were in mirror image. The only reason why i got rid of it was beacuse it had some problems: would stop turning on unless connected to the mains (even if battrey was full) and bleeping for no reason spontaniously. Don't be fooled by: the long battrey life, it's NOT true. The most i ever got out of it was 3 days, despite the claims of 10 days. I wouldn't reccomend it.

A perfectly decent phone. big screen, slim, lightweight and performs all its phone functionality well. It's very fragile though, not for tradesmen. and for me (on vodafone in hants/surrey, london and leeds UK) the phone signal is always very bad, especially indoors, even though it claims to be good signal the line cuts out a lot of the time and is quiet. there are a couple of bugs on it. if you sent an SMS from the phonebook it will always say "sending to" the name at the bottom of the current screen in the phonebook, even if you sent to one of the other 2 on the screen. this was in the D600 too. transferring photos to my computer sometimes freezes at 99% on certain files, which can never be recovered. i suspect there's a problem with the flash memory chip that's causing files to repeatedly become corrupted.

It's very easy to use in general. The camera is poor, terrible close up but has an ok image editor, but the video isn't bad at all. The volume for ringtones, especially your own mp3s is really quiet in my opinion. You can't choose an mp3 for your text alert and recently the bluetooth function has packed up and my battery will last no more than a 2 hour phone call or 7 hours on standby! Time for a new one, used to go with Samsung for reliability after the great ones I had in the past, will give Samsung a miss this time round, but it lasted quite well!

Surely if it didn't do this the battery would last longer! Lastly, there seems to be no way of turning off keypad beeps unless the phone goes to silent mode (itself only activated by holding down the hash key). But then again, if u wanna take pics, get a proper camera. For me, the main reason for knocking 2 stars off is cos the battery is rubbish. 2 days max is what i get out. I agree with everything your reviewer says except for one vital feature:the reception for boring old phone calls is the worst I've ever come across with a mobile and I've used about ten different makes and types over the last 8 or 9 years. I spend a lot of time on a boat where a mobile is the only form of contact. I can't wait till the contract is up so I can get rid of the thing.

This phone is a total pain in the backside. Texting on it is really awkward because of the lip at the bottom of the phone, which makes accessing the lower row of the keypad awkward. The camera takes forever to start up, so is no good if you're trying to take a photograph quickly. You can't change the SMS tone to an MP3. The message writing software is bizarre, and frequently refuses to let you use capital letters/lower case letters. I also never seem to hear it ring or feel it vibrate, which is not a problem I've ever had with any other phone. I can't wait to upgrade and put the bloody thing in a blender.

It hasn't got a very good camera on it or a memory card slot or any thing and it isn't a slider or a flip so there isn't anything to like do with it it just sit's n yr pocket for communication. really that is what phones are for but unless you don't like posh phones it wo uld be a waste of money! This is the worse phone ever - the camera is grainy, the video is blurry and flash is useless - simply cannot take photos at night time. Texts take about 6 strokes and probably 8 if you wsnt to save a copy - there is no date/time stamp on sent messages. Limited tones and phone cannot vibrate and ring at same time. Keeps freezing when I try to use speed dial (been told by T-Mobile that it needs a software update which I can't get hold of anywhere - they didn't tell me that when they were trying to sell it to me)!! The battery life is pathetic (every other day)! Cannot copy from memory card to pc - you have to copy memory card to phone and then to pc. I can't wait for my 18th month contract to finish - in fact I think I will just go out and buy myself a w580i this weekend!

Also the battery life is driving me up the wall - im not even getting 24 hours out of it and thats only with texting. Any phone calls drain it ridiculously quick. Also, Samsung, why oh why cant you make it vibrate and ring at the same time? Surely this isnt that difficult? And the lip at the bottom is annoying. The text sounds are rubbish and you cant add any of your own. As usual with samsungs the menus make sense and are user friendly and quick but these niggles make it a 2 star. Sort it out Samsung

Returned this phone after 10 days, and got a Nokia instead. Good points: Looks nice, decent camera along with usual calls and texting functions. Bad points: Too many for me to compromise on. Build quality very poor, much worse than my current Samsung z500. This bothered me as I plan to keep the phone for more than a year. Next - silly overcomplicated menu system which means you have to change settings in one area to get access to a menu option in another - for example, switching off the irritating bleeps the phone makes with every key pressed. Next - battery life poor. A full charge lasted less than 2 days without any calls or texts. Next - No flexibility to change the message alert tone to one of your own, you can only select one of the Samsung provided tones. Next - Ring tones provided are awful. No basic "ring ring" tone offered. Downloading possible but you shouldn't really have to when you first start, should you? Next - the silly little rubber plugs on the side which you have to remove to plug anything in are ridiculously fiddly. And the SIM, once in, can only be removed with tweezers. When I took the phone back to exchange it, the sales assistant said that the build quality was a known problem with many screens breaking or getting accidentally broken within the first 3 weeks. Unimpressed.

The camera is painfully slow and has poor quality for a 3 MP. The music player only plays one channel of a song so it sounds rubbish and the bass is almost non existant. You have to choose the preset message tones, no custom ones. If you have big thumbs, they will catch on the lip by 1 2 3, which begins to get really annoying really fast. The general feel of the phone is cheap and plasticky, way too fragile too. My main problem is the fact it keeps freezing. Ive had it for no less than 3 weeks and its frozen about 5 times. Ive lost the message I was typing and the calls I was on. The only reason this phone gets a star is the battery life is pretty good. I left it on for 2 days straight, played games and sent texts and it just about needed charging. Overall, avoid this phone.

I have just sold this phone to go back in time to the K800i. This phone is more of a fashion accessory, looks good and thats about it really. The image editor will only edit photos you have taken and not ones you've received or downloaded (say if you want to rotate 1 for your wallpaper). Browsing files on the memory card is ridiculously slow, it takes an age to play a music file or to open an image, this also leads to another annoyance, you cannot set anything that is on your memory card as a ringtone/wallpaper, you have to copy it to the phone's memory.... WHY? A total pain if your phone memory is full as you have to keep deleting and transfering back and forth from card to phone, other phones don't do this! The camera..... OK! Thats its, its not bad. The LCD flash is poor, i could take better pictures using the end of a lit cig as a flash. The shutter speed is painfully slow, you press the shoot button and only 3-4 seconds later does it take the picture, by then you've moved somewhat so the image is blurry! This is all considering that the camera button responds at all, ive had to press mine 2-3 times before it responds (although usually it responds 1st time). Unless you have PERFECT lighting conditions the pictures from this phone are nothing short of rubbish, buy a Cybershot (even the W810's 2MP is better than this) The screen..... Very clear, images (not ones taken on the camera!) are very clear and the colours look almost alive, not much wrong here, except... It is so weak! I have friends with this phone and not one of them has got a perfect screen, they scratch so easy, mine has a small crack in the corner from knocking off my bedside table! (lets be honest everyone drops thier phone now and again) I dropped my K800i loads and apart from a feel paint chips on the case it worked fine for almost 2 years! The slide function.... Samsung have had a problem with both the D900 and the D900i slide function as they tend to stick on the earlier versions, the newer ones are fine however. The buttons that have been flattened to allow for a slimmer design are abit of a pain for those of us with bigger hands, take me and hour to type a text message and if you use your nails you scratch the numbers off! On a plus note the battery life is good, the design is quite nice to look at and unlike the K800i it doesn't feel like you have a brick in your pocket (unless your a woman and you put your phone in your handbag). To summarise.... If you want the latest fashion that looks good and you don't care about perfect functionality then get this phone, if you are looking for functionality with a superb camera get the K800i, you can now even have a bit of both with the slimmer K810i.

50% of the phones have a battery life time of less than 2 days, the percentage having only 1 day is big. The battery goes down after 1 or 2 months, not immediately. So all this enthusiastic feedback after 1 day usage of the phone is quite misleading. The software is broken. If you close the slider while taking a video you cannot get the video off the phone. The T9 input method is broken as well. Pressing "C" too long deletes the whole text, inserting a missing letter in a word is not possible and other little things. The camera is only good in bright sunshine. The darker it gets the worse it is. Not near the Sony-Ericsson.

If you want to use your own earphones to listen to music there are adaptors available on ebay that enable you to do this for as little as £2.50. On one end is a 3.5mm socket and on the other the samsung connector. Can run it into a hifi this way too. Have just got mine. So much smaller and sleaker than my nokia N73, which size aside was a good phone. It did every thing I asked of it but lacked that WOW factor and was a bit of a brick to carry around. The O2 coccon was fabulous to look at and had that WOW factor in spades but the rest of the phone wasn't so great. So this little samsung, and it really is so small you forget you have it with you in your pocket is a great comprimise between style and functionality. Camera seems good. Almost but not quite up to N73, music player is also good, speakers OK but once again not quite up to N73. Battery life I'm guessing will be the same. Ditto reception. IF you don't mind carrying around a brick, the N73 is slightly better in most areas, its also 3G, this isn't, but it is a lot smaller and smarter and still does everything very well.

Its easy to use and responsive and is pretty durable, although the slide wasnt as smooth after around 8 months. Today mine has actually broken as girlfriend accidently dropped a 5kg weight straight onto the screen which totally screwed it up and bent the slide, so instantly I thought ahhh all my information lost (also a good business phone) but not to fear using the pc connector I easily transferd all data without having to send it off to whoever. Luckily this has happend at the end of contract so im going to get a G800 as it seems like the next best thing. Superb phone and the camera is great you just need to tweak the resolution etc

How can anyone say this phone is good?! This is the worst phone I have ever had to put up with. The screen is so close to the casing, I have read hundreds of other people talking about how they've cracked the screen. The ribbons inside the phone are terrible, my menu buttons don't work because of the deteriorating ribbons. You can't choose your own tunes as your message tones. You can't have your own themes. The memory card slot breaks and doesn't read the card. It has the worst battery life ever! Please, I warn you, don't buy this phone, it would be the biggest mistake of your life! I've had this phone for about a year and a half now, and its finally got to the point when I want to throw it in the bin. The camera is rubbish, it is always grainy and the lag time is too long. I can't set my own message tone, and I'm sick of the 10 that come on the phone. The battery life is good if you don't do anything with it, but the minute you try to play a game, go on the internet or have a decent length phone call, it dies within about 45 minutes and has done this since it was new, and although the menu is easier to use than other makes, without setting a shortcut, there are about 5 steps just to type a text massage, and unless you ask it every sigle time, it won't automatically save your sent messages. The only good thing I can think about it is that its thin, but even then it is still quite big.

I found the phone very easy to navigate around the menu. Quite simple, got used to it very quickly and it is good looking for a phone. However, as with some other reviews I have read, I have to agree that the camera is simply awful. I tried and tried, but continued to get blurry pictures. I rely on my phone to take pics as a part of my job - it just wasn't up to it. I bought a Nokia N80 after it and it turned out to be a much better purchase. The signal was weak where I work and sometimed even if in my pocket it wouldn't ring it would go straight to answer phone. I was unable to change my message alert, which astounded me for a new phone. My final gripe was that, although I had bought a 1GB memory card the sound was too quiet for me to enjoy. Overall, as a phone it was pretty good, but the rest of it let it down badly in my opinion. Two stars only I'm afraid

It would read 'battery charged' when it had only been charging for an hour or less. The battery then only lasted an hour before needing to be charged again. Thinking that I needed a new battery, I purchased one. The same fault persisted to the extent that now, the phone only charges for a minute before reading fully charged. This is clearly a fault built into the phone designed to make you upgrade your phone. I won't. I've gone back to my Motorola and I won't buy Samsung again.

I don't use the music player really but the sound from the loudspeaker is surprisingly good, and it's nice to be able to have an MP3 ringtone. Physically not as satisying or as robust as my old metal RAZR. But the camera makes up for a lot. With decent light, and if you're prepared to wait while it autofocuses veeery sloooowly, it takes great quality pix. Quite poor in dim light, though, I'd prefer a real camera flash or higher ISO rating. An image stabiliser would be nice too. So, a G800 next then I guess...

I bought this slider version from samsung less than a week ago from the net and am so far been very impressed by the inherent quality, looks, friendly user interface and that sliky smooth sliding mechanism which just simply oozes class ! But what blows me away the most about this phone is the overall design, i mean just look at the attention to detail crammed in there being so incredibly thin when you view it open or closed and at any angle you view it from it just looks so sophisticated and excellently crafted. Picture quality is outstanding and is the best i have ever come across and i have had quite a few camera phones before the D900 believe it or not ! In video record mode i find the picture quality to be a little less in awe particularly when viewed in full screen mode though this can be improved on when you revert it back to the original picture setting which albeit happens to be a tad compact and smaller when viewed and you'll need to concentrate a little mo re than you would than when your viewing your favourite snapshots in camera mode. Battery life is another gripe which seems to be on the thirsty side as 1 night of a single charge is all it could muster which is well below par of my old nokia 3100 which could last approx 2 weeks on a single charge with normal use but with a new battery ordered that should solve it. All in all i think this is a sweet phone to have in your possesion and as its only a fraction of what it was worth new then its definately not going to dissappiont you i kid you not GET ONE !!

Mine has withstood more bashing than my husbands but I am really disappointed with the camera - no matter which setting I have it on I can't take a photo of anything that moves as it turns out blurred and saying as most of my 'of the moment' shots are of my children, this is no use at all. The MP3 is great sound wise but a little frustrating when I have to keep swapping tunes from the memory card to the phone if I want to change my playlist I am an impatient type of girl and want it now! so I don't like having to wait while it copies everthing over. Screen broke while phone was in my pocket Seems to be a common problem with these phones and frankly you can see why as the quality of construction is abysmal The Software is also prone to doing odd things. Basically the phone is full of gimmicks and features which obviously make a lot of the reviewers on here very happy. But is a long way behind manufacturers like Nokia and Sony in terms of quality and professional finish. Dont buy it.

Having lived with this phone for 12 months now I have grown to hate it. The hardware is gorgeous, I love the slim shape and the slide works perfectly, but the niggles in the OS are slowly driving me nuts. It's a shame, as I wanted to really like this phone. Synchronisation to Outlook is appalling, making the purchase of 3rd party software a requirement (It can't handle recurring appointments, especially those that are fortnightly rather than weekly). The camera, as others have noted, has a shutter speed so slow a passing snail would be blurred. The phone is pretty much unskinable, only the wallpaper can be changed, making personalisation impossible. Yes, you can have any mp3 you like as your ring-tone, but you only have the choice of a handful of appalling noises for an incoming text. The battery indicator goes from full to empty in half a day, sending a text message requires so many menu choices you may as well have phoned instead, the predictive text comes up with complete garbage, if you don't spot that it has picked the wrong word, you can't just back up and change it, you have to delete the whole word and retype it. The phone has 4 alarms, yet only one can be snoozed so if you get up at different times on different days yo u have to constantly change the main alarm time. None of these things are huge problems, but over time they just add up to a frustrating ownership experience. I'm going back to Sony-Ericsson, their hardware might not be as sexy but they get the usability right at least. I'll not buy another Samsung phone again (it's even more annoying than my wife's old Motorola)

The D900i perhaps because I like the radio, but there's no document viewer! This has been a great phone, faultless in operation and simple to use. The screen is large and clear, the size is fantastic and the features are so useful. The camera takes really good quality photos/video, good enough to print and frame. A couple of minor niggles... you can't download message tones and the battery life's not so good, especially when using the camera.(normal use battery life 2-3 days) The MP3 player is excellent when you load up a microSD card of your fave tunes. Although this phones been out a while now it's still worth buying and only £100ish on PAYG. Recommended.. hell YES. I'm struggling to find something as good to replace it with.

Yes it is slim, and light but thats about it, I think its kinda ugly, like its been run over! The keys are hard to text on, keep pressing the wrong ones. And as for the camera, it is rubbish! I agree with gcol, the pictures come out grainy and dark, unless it is bright and sunny. And when the pictures are put on a pc they are normally blurred and pixely, 3mp? Look at the size of the photos and compare to a Sony, thats what im getting next. And yes I have got the settings on maximum. Bit of a let down after the D900, if your thinking of buying one get the new Sony slim one...

First I must say that having had the D900 for a week I am delighted with it. However as with all mobiles you cant have everything. For 2 years I used a D600 and was happy with that. The comparison between the two is quite marked, but the D600 did have some aspects that were better. The D600 was a strong, and comfortable in the hand phone, one also got the impression that one could throw it against a wall without to much damage. The D900 seems to be a little more delicate. The D600 had some very good sounds built in, I refer particularly to the slide sounds. The whee open and whoo close sound was really class. However overall the D900 is much better with more facilities, like internet access and connecting to a PC for downloading pictures and music. A great phone and I am happy with it. One further comment. If anyone from Vodafone Egypt reads this, its about time the D900 was put on your system so I can use MMS.

I just did and it works for me. As for keytones, to turn them down use the volume control on the side of the phone when not on a call - no problem. Apart from not being able to use mp3s for message alerts, I like everything about this phone. Camera. Don't really like using it, as i have a normal digital camera anyway. It's good quality if you're in the right light, and it doesn't blur. But it does have a tendency to blur, even if you move it ever so slightly. Battery Battery isn't that good. But keep bluetooth switched off if you're not using it, as that can waste charge. It lasts me about a day, on average. Music Very very good sound quality when listened to through the speakers. Radio and mp3 sound good. Sounds slightly tinny when played on the speaker, but it sounds like that on most phones. Can hold around 30 songs unless you buy a micro SD card. Messaging The SMS service on this phone is good. Nice font, and easy enough to select the person you want to send it to and send etc... OverAll. Very good stylish phone, couldnt leave it alone when i first got it. Battery isn't up to scratch, but charging it more doesn't really affect the average person. Good mp3, good call service and cool backgrounds. Good Buy !!

This phone looks classy and has the specs to match the outside appearance. The camera and the editing facilities are top notch and look fantasic when printed out, in fact it can be a rival for a digital camera. The ringtones are mediocre, and the wallpapers are ok. But its so easy to upload things from your computer like music, wallpapers, ringtone etc. The music player is top quality and sounds quite good with the headphones (although better without). Its not exactly an ipod but for a mobile the music quality is fine. The video is very easy to use but i was very disappointed with the quality of it. When its uploaded onto the computer its just as bad. if you want a 3 megapixel video i suggest you get a cheap camcorder. The slide funtion is fantastic and doesn't stick at all during the 1 year i have had it. I have had no problems with the phone, and its tough 9i don't have one mark or scratch on it...yet!) The resolution on the screen is brilliant and boasts imacculate colours, clear screen etc. There are many things that make this phone fantasic and this is one of the most remarkable. It you set the "theme" wallpaper, it will automatically change the picture to the capital city of whatever country your in. It also changes to day and night, and even the weather. It may not have satnav, or a fansastic video, but it has the bear nessecaties. Fab camera, weather, tough exterior, memory sd slot, but it looks the part, IS the part and will probably be the best buy you will have for a while!

First of all the camera quality is poor. To say it is allegedly 3 megapixel, my n70 takes better photo's and that's what 2mpx. Unless you are in broad daylight the camera is absolutely useless, even then it isnt great. Any photo taken indoors just comes out a browny grainy looking colour. Secondly this handset must have the worst antenna i have ever encountered, i struggle to get signals in major city centre's nevermind in my own town in the suburban parts where i live. I'll give the phone its due it looks the part, it just hasnt got the minerals to compete with the n73 or the k800. The phone was not dropped, put under pressure or anything. Customer Service say that despite no sign of external damage and assurances that nothing has happened to cause the damage it's not covered. To me this is either faulty equipment being sold with a worthless warranty or a piece of equipment that is so poorly constructed that it can be damaged by simply using it. Recommend that you steer well clear of this it you want a phone that works after you bought it unless you are prepared to have it fixed regulary

To address other peoples issues, yes the camera is quite slow as you have to hold it for a couple of seconds, but I have very quickly got used to that. The text message alert can't be changed from the ones already available, but I don't think that's as big an issue as it sounds. Altogether, I's say if you can get hold of this phone, then buy it. a good tip though is to shop around for the best price. I got mine from ebay for £120 instead of £180!

Ok, the camera is ok but the zoom is bad. I like vivid text message mode, But my main biggest complaint is that IT BREAKES TOO EASILY! I mean, left it in my bag, It wasn't that heavy or any sharp objects in it, and the internal screen broke! Cost 29.50 to repair (that's with insurance, only saved a tener) and I have just recently slashed the screen again, only this time it had more of a reason to break (fell ot of hand, then friend stepped on it not noticing). Anyhow, the first time it broke it had no excuse. Not worth the damage costs!

Earlier D900's seem to have had a screen cracking problem - not anymore - well I've had mine for 4 months with no problem at all. Just don't open the slider by pushing on the screen - that may just cause excess stress. The camera does a fine job but there is a slight time delay from when the shutter is activated so you'll just need to keep the phone steady for a second or two. It's possible to change the ASA settings on the camera, the zoom is effective and exposure can be set for lighter or darker scenes. There are lots of effects to choose from and a useful icon display on the screen showing your current camera settings. Sunny Ng said in an earlier review that he couldn't remove the memory card - easy, just push it in first, it then pops out on its own. This is a great phone but the file handling is clunky when moving files from main memory to the memory card. It also does not like long file names for songs - it will just show no songs are available. The screen resolution and sound are great but on my T-Mobile version the ring time is very short before the missed call notice kicks in. I was told some of the ring tones have an activation delay. This occurs on other Samsungs as well - my GF's pink clamshell does the same. The screen keeps its sheen well - be careful not to put it in your pocket or bag with loose change and the car keys. Buy one and cherise it - this slim guy is a very good choice if you don't like a brick in your pocket.

I can't understand the negative reviews of this phone. It's a lovely phone, and I cannot imagine ever going back to a big brick like Nokia or Sony Ericsson. The keypad is really easy to use - much nicer than Nokias or Sony Ericssons, especially the disgusting joystick on the K800i. Some people are complaining about the camera. Huh? I have a Canon digital SLR and the D900 can match the quality of the SLR under favourable lighting conditions. Admittedly in low light it won't produce great results as the LED flash hasn't got enough power, but this is the same for nearly every mobile except the K800i/K810i. Music is loud and good quality and there's lots of onboard memory in addition to the memory card slot. Some people seem to have broken their D900, but I've had mine for 8 months and it hasn't got a scratch. I do take care to look after my stuff, but I keep it in my jeans pocket a lot of the time and it's fine. If you drop it or keep it in a pocket with coins or keys what do you expect? Also - it has never crashed, shut down or anything funny like Nokias seem to do all the time these days. Battery life is about a week with light use. I love my D900 and I hope this review helps people considering buying it. In reply to Jo from Liverpool, yes the D900 does show a blank screen when the slide is closed, which is a shame especially when my old D500 used to show the time and any messages or missed calls - please bring this feature back Samsung!

I have tried changing wall paper, the back light time and I can't find any screensavers at all! Is there something I'm missing? I have read the book whicj only mentions how to change the wallpaper. Having upgraded from a Sony Erikson 500 you can well imagine how impressed I am with the D900. The looks of the unit, though undeniably neat, were not a factor in my choice; the stunning quality of the graphics were. The first photo I took, with camera set merely to "normal", (Richmond riverfront, Surrey, from the bridge) delivered exceptional quality. Once the keyboard shortcuts are memorised, those functions most important to the individual user are quickly to hand. But such a multiplicity of functions does the D900 have that it is essential to spend time with the instruction manual of the user will simply not be getting value for the money he has paid. Tip - take photos with the button on the side of the phone rather than the OK/i button on the front; the latter requires heavier pressure and may result in a blurred shot.

After having the sony erricson K750i whose camera was very high quality i felt that the camera was very poor. The other thing that annoyed me is the memory on the phone it is not very big yet i bought a memory card but didn't see much use in it as i never took pictures as the camera was rubbish. The slide on the phone vecomes stiff at times and you can hear the grinding on the back of it not a very nice thing. In general this phone has been very good and is worth the money if you don't want to take a lot of high quality photo's. Samsung D900i I bought this phone for its multimedia features but I'm very disappointed about the media player! THE SOFTWARE BUG: when viewing mpeg4 files in fullscreen mode (after pressing play and pressing # for switching in full screen mode) there are 2 problems for 2 types of files which are available on the Nero site: hxxp://trailer.nerodigital.com/eng/trailer.php?id=46 BUGS in Media Player Samsung Software: 1. Mobile » Mobile (2.27 MB) Resolution: 176x144 Duration: 1:18 min This video file can NOT be played in fullscreen mode. The screen is freezing and the sound is still running. 2. Portable » Portable (5.03 MB) Resolution: 352x288 Duration: 1:18 min This video file can be played in fullscreen mode BUT the viewed aspect ratio is WRONG because the player is not adding black borders at the bottom and the top of the image as requested the widescreen (16:9) video files. I tested the same files on Nokia and Sony Ericsson mobiles and in fullscreen mode the video files are played with the CORRECT aspect ratio. So, the problem is NOT in the video files but in the SAMSUNG FIRMWARE (software). If these MAJOR problems will be not solved, I'll return my phone and ask for money back. Was my first Samsung phone and I'm very disappointed because of this. I just cant watch any widescreen videos on the phone. enjoy, Mtz

When my old Motorola finally packed in after five years, I was looking for a phone that was a bit more up-to-date but, most importantly, reliable. I purchased the D900 based on the mostly excellent reviews it received on this website. However, after six months of very light use, the screen has now stopped working for the third time, which my local repair shop tells me is a frequent problem with this phone . Also, the functionality is nowhere near as good as my old Motorola or Nokias I have used. The camera is fine but the flash is useless. I would not recommend this phone to anyone.

Finally given up on D900 and gone back to my Sony W810i. The Samsung has a better screen than the Sony, its voice recorder has pause, fast forward and rewind etc, it has a good document viewer. But the Samsung is unbelievably less friendly to use. Twice as many commands to send an email, much less good as an MP3 player (where in the Sony you can play MP3s and use the rest of the facilities separately). The voice recorder sensitivity is too high, so it distorts when recording in a loud environment. You can't hide all the prompts for the document viewer, so you end up not able to see the whole document. It seems as though the software for the Samsung is at alpha development stage, where the Sony software has had years of usability testing.

Well, I have had this phone for about a week. And let me tell you, its great. I am not exaggerating here, it is such an improvement over my old Razr v3. This phone not only looks good, the camera is good regardless of what people say. They are just not operating the phone right. I don't know what is the matter with people, the keys feel good and tactile. They are, without a doubt, better than the D800, D840 and the t629 (all of those I have tried out.) The buttons feel good and responsive when you press them. The lip at the bottom doesn't obscure anything no matter what people say. I suppose people are perfectionists but sorry, there won't be a perfect phone. However, this one comes very close. The features are amazing compared to my Razr. Music playback, FM radio, image editor, video recorder. Heck, I bet you would also find a sonic screwdriver, nuclear strike attack button, and possibly a laser gun attachment (I am making those up.) But anyways, it is a great buy, its sleek looks and simple and "clean" user interface (especially the menus) it doesn't look cheap or feel cheap. This phone, like anything valuable, needs to be treated with care. You wouldn't feel so happy if your car got scratched or you dropped your watch and it shattered. If you think it fits chavs, thats your opinion and it's wrong. Personally, I think it fits the business types and the multimedia people out there. So, all in all, it has stunning looks, terrific features, the "lip" at the bottom is not a big deal the keys are fine no matter what people say. Generally, its a phone with very few or, if any, flaws. Great buy, get one!

once you get past going ga ga ga at your phone because of how thin and cute it is and actually start trying to use it, this phone will really start to annoy you. 1. poor camera in terms of quality. also very fiddely. those of you who like to have a cup of tea between pressing the button and and actually having the picture taken will enjoy this phone. 2. poor keyboard - I don't know how many times I have pressed the same button twice because nothing happened the first time. 3. poor software - no direct memory access which is criminal (and stupid) 4. alarm volume tied to ring tone volume. why ??? 5. no personalised message tones and again volmue tied to ring tone - not acceptable. 6. poor battery life - count 3 days with very light usage. more like 90 minutes if listening to music. 7. you probably won't listen to music anyway because you must use the samsung supplied headphones because of the special connector. 8. poor messaging - not to mention the confirm to send, confirm again and one more time just to be sure. i could go on but i think you get the idea. there is a lot that this phone does not have. i'm sorry to say that either most of the people below work for samsung or they buy a phone to hang on their wall.

Now mine only last 3 hours a day before it cuts off so it is most definitely faulty. The other major fault with it is, it mixes up all the messages in my inbox so they all link into each other and don't make sense. It has a childish design for text messages with silly limited sounds to choose from. All in all, it feels like an amatuerish attempt at a phone, don't be fooled by its sleek exterior people, that's all it's got going for it!!

I've had this phone for about 3 weeks and love it. I got it for my 14th birthday and everything about it I find amazing. Firstly - The look... you can't beat it. Its dead slim and something I definatly like my friedns to see. For me, it is importamt that it looks really good and I think that this is one of the nicest looking phones around at the moment and I think will be for quite some time. The Camera - Really excellent. It takes dead clear photos and videos. Also, I enjoy using all the fetures like the effects and frames and stuff. And if you haven't added the effect to the photo when you took it, the Photo Editor application means you can. The zoom is good and the flash is really good too. Music Player - For me, it was a toss up between the D900 and a sony ericcson walkman one, becuase i wanted it for music as well. When i tryed the music on the d900 i was really impressed. It wasn't much different from walkman one, with and without headphones. I was really impressed. Texting and Picture messaging - Like any normal phone really. There is a vivid message settign thing which is pretty cool. It makes the writing orange and replaced words like love with a picture of a heart. I like that and apart from that, it's like any other phone. The buttons aren't to small either. All's good. Games - I like the games. There is 7, of which about 4 are demos, but still fun. For alot of people it won't matter, but i just thought I'd mention that I think the games are really good and the graphics are ace. Bluetooth - Good. i don't really know how good it is compared to other phones because before my d900 i had a motorola, which is reallt really bad for finding people, but as far as I can say, it's good and pretty fast too. Price - I got mine for £150, SIM included. I think for what you get, it's a really good price. Calls - Pretty standard. Good voice clarity, nice to hold, you can use it closed or open. Good. Bad points - I think i only have two slightly bad points. One is that the screen gets so easily greasy and dirty and becuase its shiny, especially in sun light, it irrates me sometimes. I guess though that copuld just be me, because I love my screen to be dead clean and because I love the looks of it, I wouldn't get a cover or something to protect it. The only other critism (kind of linked my the other)is that there is really no where to slide it up without pressing buttons or touching the very bottom of the screen (which makes it a tiny bit greasy.. lol) But apart from them, which are really minor points, I love it. Generally - From what I've seen, it's a quite well built phone, the slider is smooth, and the features are really really good. i know different people look for different features in phones, but for an all rounder, i think this is an almost perfect phone. I love it and would reccomend it to anyone looking for an all round, good phone.

Love the layout and general looks of this phone but as far as I am concerned it stops there. Anyone who wrote a seriously complimentary review must a)never txt or b) wrote review before trying to txt-and that INCLUDES the guy who did the main review. It is the most convoluted txt system I have ever used and Samsung must be ashamed of it, it is hopeless. I do not believe how many buttpns have to be pressed to send. Even when clicking on "reply" the phone takes you all over the place so you can verify about what seems like 9 times, do you really want to send it to that person or, can we change your mind? Jeez, course I do, else I would not have clicked "reply" Terrible! Write a msg and go to options for sending after you have chosen who to send it to you will find there is no drop-down list--like the D500-- to select which number for that contact you wish to send it to. The first number listed in your contact list is the only one this phone wants you to send it to, n o option for changing neither. So you have to either a)type in number!!! who knows that many off the cuff? or b) go into contact list and select number from there then select--send msg to--crazy crazy crazy. Ebay it goes to and back to the logical W810i. This is the worse designed system I have ever encountered. Nice looks, yeh, but shame about the operation. Trust you all understand my meaning as is difficult to explain. Bottom line, if you txt a lot--KEEP OFF IT, it will drive you mad. I am seriously VERY surprised main reviewer made no mention at all of this--did he actually test phone I ask myself?? I think maybe not.

At first, I loved this phone. Notice the past-tense timescale on love? It has the wonder-factor, your friends will love it - it looks sleek. But if you want something that just looks good and doesn't do much else, this is probably the right phone for you. I was shocked to find the camera was bad quality - being "more than 3MP" - photos came out grainy and video quality was apalling. The MP3 player is very restricted - you can only play 120 songs from it at a maximum - and if you're a music lover like me, 120 songs is nothing. Another annoyance with the D900 is the fact that you cannot choose your personal message tones. It's one of the ten preset tones or nothing. My biggest worry with this phone was that it was not JAVA ENABLED! Yes, you may have Java games on it, but using Java Apps on this phone is impossible. So annoyed at that. All in all, this phone is good, sexy-looking, sleek and will do the job - but if you're looking for something a bit more - something "good", then don't pick this phone. ...::: DELTA :::... P.S. The Samsung D900 Forums are filled with complaints about the phone - more than compliments.

Excellent phone. The main problem I've found is the screen is too fragile. After 3 months of having this phone the screen cracked. When I took the phone back to the store it cost me £40 pounds to have the screen repaired. I've found out this is a common problem. After this I was told to buy a cover for the phone. With the cover in place it no longer looks as sleek and stylish as it did and it also makes it nearly twice as thick and doesn't slide open very easily. There is also the added expense of having to buy a new cover every so often when the old one gets damaged.POOR BUILD QUALITY.

I have now owned my Samsung D900 (replacement for a D600) for a couple of weeks and it seems to be the best and the worst of everything. Aesthetically the design is generally quite good although slider is NOT of the quality of the D600. Build quality is I would say 'cheap'. I really do wonder if there are 2 types of D900 in the market. Most reviews of the 'excellent', 'wonderful' etc nature giving it *****. However some are less than complimentary and that is also my experience of the D900. 1. The camera is awful despite it's 3Mp. The response is slow slow as too make it almost unuseable. The picture quality is very poor in all but the brightest of daylight. Worst of all the camera seems to throw a grainy/blurred photo when it feels like it every 4 or 5 shots. 2. The keypad is perhaps the most annoying of all. (i) the bottom three keys are so close to the enormous bottom lip as to make easy texting impossible (no I don't have big fingers). (ii) there is a delay between pressing the key and the sound of the key press making ear and finger coordination a real mental challenge, and, it seems the key sound cannot be switched off. 3. Battery life is dire. I am not a heavy user but the D900 reports 'low battery' every other day. 4. I put a memory card in mine only to find that access to it and transferability between it and the phone/sim is worse than useless. 5. The accompanying software leaves a lot to be desired as far as usability and user friendliness is concerned. For all these reasons I would say leave this camera well alone, and the reported screen breakage incidents are far too numerous to be anything but poor quality, even if this is not acknowledged by Samsung.

Got this phone last year as soon as it came out. After several month's use I have mixed feelings though, and can't see why everyone is raving about this phone. Pros - nicely designed, robust, beautifully slim, bright clear screen, good call quality, loud ring tones, camera good in bright light. Cons - where do I start? Clunky software which is not very intuitive, painfully slow when trying to take a photo. Text software is dreadful - very limited user dictionary that deletes previous entries when it's full, no auto saving of sent texts, predictive texting not contextual as with SEs and Nokias. Key responsiveness is slow meaning people with fast fingers will spend a lot of time retyping messages. Can only use one of three pre-set tones for text notification. Battery life is poor, and dies very quickly as soon as meter goes to two bars (max is three!). No voice dialling. Photo quality in anything other than bright light very poor even with built in illuminator - grain y and blurred. I'm due for an upgrade soon and will be going back to SE - their software is so intuitive and much more friendly. A pity because physically this phone is a beauty - Samsung need to focus more on the user-friendliness of their software though.

My first word...what an excellent phone! The phone is user friendly, solid built with high quality material, light-weight & thin, crystal clear screen, acceptable ringtone volume and ofcoz, 3MP has been the greatest strength of all! Had it for 5 months and it has never turn me down. As for the picture quality from this 3.2MP slider, I'm not quite agreed with 'gcol' because at my side personally, D900 DO have its own quality on the pict it took. Always choose the 'Auto Focus' rather than 'Pan Focus' since u're not shooting anything that moves. Choose a correct White Balance, Exposure Metering and ISO setting, it'll give u a pleasant result. If u're unsure with these setting, just set it all to 'Auto' with the 'Auto-Focus' enabled. Plus...make sure u hold the phone "still & sturdy" enough when u're taking a photo. Be patience until you hear the shutter sound "click" then u'll have a decent good quality of images. Not to mention its Macro shot which also quite precise and sharp! By the way, since u're a on-going-businessman, u shouldnt have buy this phone at the 1st place. U should have opt for Nokia N73 earlier ago since it's functionalities were designed for business mobile. Better survey more before you purchase anything mate ;) no offence nor harmful me aning in my words. The only down side is the sliding mechanism which is now tend to be alittle bit loose (which create some tiny squeking sound) but I think tat is quite acceptable since that it is the fact of every slider phone has its tear-and-wear life span. As for the battery life, if u're a heavy user, D900 will need to charge daily. Moderate user like me, it lasted 3 days with roughly 25mins of calls (made/received) and 30sms (sent/received) perDay. Hope my reviews help! cheers!

I have had the phone for over a year and yes the camera certainly has its advantages with quality. Night photography is a little dodgy. You need to hold the camera very steady and most of times this fails to work on higher settings. You end up with a very shaky image. Options on photography can be changed around so you would have more usable functions placed at the beginning of the options such as deleting a image you have taken and have decided not to keep. The memory cards have the potential of 2GB. The transfer rate of copying from phone and accessing the memory card functions can be painfully slow. Overall transferring of data can be tedious. Most of the settings are the same from previous Samsung additions which is a little surprising for I would expect the settings to be a little different and advanced though to be fair they all function well.

Good in lots of ways, but a poor implementation of the memory card. When I put mp3s on the card with a card reader on my Mac, some were visible on the phone, and some weren't. Along with the way you can't save pix direct to the card, it suggests the expandable memory is an afterthought. I preferred this to the Nokia 6234, but I've ended up with a Sony Ericsson K800i -- boring, but everthing works on that.

The D900i has all the usual features of a samsung and it's slim design makes it look so stylish especially in the chrome. I've had loads of comments on it. Only one grump is that it doesn't tell you who your texts are from until you read them - not a big grump!!! The battery life is ok too - I use my phone a lot - have charged it twice but I played with it a lot the first day I had it. I even knocked a cup of water on it and it's been fine. I'm a huge Samsung fan and my last 6 phones have been Samsung and they have been good, with the exception of the Z510. As i used this website was a lifesaver when it came to choosing my phone, i felt i had to write a review myself. Overall the phone is great, it has so many features that my all phone didn't. Just the fact that you can use songs as ring tones is amazing (i'm sad, i know!)I do have to disagree with several people, my battery has lasted 2 days without charging( but i have to admit that i hadn't been using it all the time) The camera is amazing, 3MP is just brilliant! I don't even use all the pixels, i take pics in 800*600 and they are just as clear and detailed. Also, if you have it on a lower setting then the time between pressing the button and the picture being taken is shorter. (p.s i read somewhere that you can't turn the noise off the camera, you can, just go to camera settings) I will just suggest not to put the phone on the setting that it reminds you of a message every 2 mins. My mum came and woke me up at 3 in morning cos my phone had been beeping all night and I'd just slept right through. The program that comes with the phone is really easy to use, you can add images, songs and videos from your computer to the phone and vise versa. I also like the fact that you can edit songs on the computer. I think it's great as you can have just your favorite song's chorus as your ringtone. The only niggle is that when you save contacts, you can choose between the sim and the phone but when you save on both then you have the same number twice, which is really annoying. Even though it's just a small thing, i like the fact that if you ask for a delivery report, when it comes on screen, it already has a delete link, its so much better than having a in box full of "received message" I have discovered a setting that a lets the other person reply to your texts using your server. i haven't quite worked out how it works but i hope it does as i have unlimited texts! But overall, it really is a nifty little phone with loads of great features. I would recommend it to anyone was doesn't need a professional phone but just needs an every day phone. A great all rounder

Just recently received the D900, pretty impressed, takes a bit of getting used to, some of the things I don't like about it is when it is opened there is annoying movement in the mechanical construction of the phone, it gives a sense of less quality - the two joining surfaces are not flat and sturdy and therefore result in a slight tilt if the phone is gently waved up and down, even when you place it by your ear you feel this sensation of movement in the phones construction, also saving someones name from an message in the inbox has got me puzzled so far, I've had to write it down and then re-enter it! Still learning though, apart from that, very nice, sleek, good looking phone, not sure about if the plastic covering the rechard connector will last!

i see many good reviews here, but i would be careful with this phone if you get it, the thin screen may be a design asset, but it is also a weakness. small bumps from keeping it in your pocket can crack the screen quite easily and it can cost over £90 to repair. mine got damaged, and because technically its not a design fault, they will not take it back. believe me, it hurts like hell to see £150 go straight down the drain, and i would avoid this phone if you dont want the same. the three stars are simply recognition of its excellent features and stylish design, if it was tougher and more able to stand up to everyday wear and tear i would get it repaired but the likelyhood is it will happen again, so i am instead saving for a new phone.

I bought D900 quite reluctantly after my D600 expired (perceived just as a clone of D600 with somewhat downgraded design and usability), however after few days I found D900 quite acceptable and the new design has some advantages. The main D900 differences from D600: - supports EDGE GPRS (hopefully providing higher data transmission rates); - has uGo, uTrace and uMenu options (probably more fun than necessary); - slightly larger screen (although same number of pixels); - phone remembers the last sequence of steps through menus (which is quite nice); - different (but I will not say that better) graphics. No opinions about camera (for me the only reason to have it was "flash"). PC studio that was supplied on CD recognized phone only after online upgrade :) Unfortunately, with all the multi-phony the ringtones can be uploaded just for incoming calls, no access/uploads to SMS tones etc. And I wonder, is that only me that liked much better these presets for their older models (e.g. X640)? The most irritating feature is lack of possibility to attach strap (I wonder, is the reason that Samsung actually prefers increased "droppability"?)

The battery indicator would be on 3 bars from about 12 hours and then would go down to 2 bars as soon as this happened I would have about 2-3 hours left before the phone turned itself off. Not sure if this was due to battery/charger/software problem still trying to resolve. Have had 2 other Samsung phones with no problems very disappointed in this phone.

I have had this phone for nearly 6 months and I must say, I'm not keen on it for the following reasons: battery life is very short and I spend more time recharging this phone than any other I've had before. There is a poor choice of preloaded ring tones and you only have a choice of 9 for the messages (and cannot change them for downloaded ones). Although I have downloaded some music to use as ring tone for incoming calls, if I haven't answered my phone within 10 seconds, I miss the call and it's very frustrating not to mention costly! Yes it is thin but also quite large so compared to the D500 (my daughter's) it doesn't feel as good in your hand when you have small ones! I have always had Nokia before and find them more versatile and reliable - mine has a tendency to lock itself and I have to switch on and off to get it started again!

Great looking phone with excellent camera. However its totally unreliable. Mine has broken down twice - the screen goes dead and loses all clarity. Its a total pain. I am taking the most recent one back today and am going to ask for a NOKIA. I have taken great care of both handsets. They havent been dropped or knocked. To me the build just isnt good. I have spoken to other people who have returned four handsets!

Well, i am one more amongst the thousands who looked at the sleek design, wonderful slide feature, super slim structure. First the Gooddies;;; 1. Nice and Slim : you wont even feel like having a phone in the Pocket 2. Slide Feature : Its really the best and similar slide features in Nokia, Sony only deserve the next places 3. Camera : The 3 MP camera is a really good one. Clarity is awesome. Now the long list of Baddies; 1. Software : Some of the options in the Menu are disabled. (Example: Muting the Key Sound). 2. Battery Charge : It is defenitely not the best and to add to th woes, there is no indication about how much charge is left or how much has been charged. 3. Sound : All Sony ericcson users can still remain pround of its sound feature. The external audio quality is not the greatest. 4. Messages : Due to some strange reason, the sent messages are not getting saved. Looks like a software bug. To summarize, if you are just a simple phone user & are more interested in the style, then there you are; D900 is the one for you :) Else if you are a exhaustive phone user, who makes use of all the features inside & have by chance used a Sony ericcson k750 or higher before, then This is not the phone for you :(

excellent, good camera although arguably not the absolute best but who complains at 3mp on a mobile phone, although saying that most 3mp and above tend to be bulky and slightly ugly,so i would plump for the d900 sharp edges and great screen any day, especially in chrome, black seems to be same old same old these days, its a shame about the motorola krzr 1 which was my plan b choice because they have the colour and design spot on with that its a shame it seems like a dud lol anyway more to the point d900= sexy, great vibrant screen, great colour (chrome or red specific) heck i might be a samsung fan but even so they havnt let me down yet an ive had most d something or another phones an they only get better!

Ace phone overall once you can get the camera and video settings to suit, the defaults are the best so play around with the settings. Oh and as for memory cards, don't buy the 2gig one like me, it doesnt like them and doesnt work so I have to now send it back to get a 1 gig. Overall thought, its ace!
