Reviewed by stuart on 30/03/2009 The D840 is a very stylish phone with many features, however, the main problem with it, is the LCD screen. Unfortunately, the screen can crack underneath, looking as if it has been struck from the outside. This is usually caused by pressure placed upon the screen. This can merely, and, is usually the result from simply just housing it in your pocket. The cost to repair this is around £50, as this, is not covered by the warranty. This, in my opinion, is unacceptable since this is a design fault. Rating:

Reviewed by Laura on 24/04/2008 This phone caused me a lot of problems. The light behind the keypad died about 1 month after having it, so in the evening/nightime, you can't see what buttons you are pressing, the battery life is very short and now the speaker has gone, so it makes no noise when the phone rings or when i receive a text and its not even on silent!! Very disappointed! Rating:
Reviewed by Ernie on 23/04/2008 As with all things Samsung, the phone looks good but the technical detail is somewhat failing. Battery life is very poor so keep your charger handy. Im on PAYG and make about 3 calls per week. Its on 24x7 and needs recharging every 3 days. On my old Nokia it was 10 days! Texting takes a while to get used to. After 9 months, I still cant get used to the space on the # key. Profiles are another let down. On Nokia I could press a button and it goes into Silent mode, Meeting, Loud, Outdoor, Vibrate, etc, but nothing similar on Samsung. It does have a silent key, but when returning to normal mode it plays a very loud noise on the speaker. The USB data cable doesnt charge the phone. You'll need a seperate USB charging cable! The phone being metal is quite heavy compared to other plastic phones. Those are the main bad points. Otherwise quite a good phone. It still looks new after 9 months and fairly pleased overall. Rating:
Reviewed by Manos on 21/04/2008 Do not make the mistake and buy this phone, it's terrible.Just over a year old and the screen died (exactly the same story with the Samsung D640 I used to own, are they on a death timer? ). Not intuitive, bad graphics, stupid keypad, terrible functionality to name a few of its minuses. Battery life is TRAGIC!!! After 12 months of use and a fully charged battery lasts for less than a day!!!!! The only plus is that is flat and can easily fit you back pocket. This is a rubbish phone, avoid at all costs. In fact I would never buy a Samsung again Rating:
Reviewed by Ailsa Mackay on 18/04/2008 I love this phone. I have problems using my hands and need a phone with big enough buttons to avoid hitting the wrong keys but the battery life is dreadful and considering I need this phone for medical emergencies it just keeps letting me down - I need more than 5 mins to make calls and texting seems to eat up battery life. Pity they cannot make a battery to fit the phone's great specs. Rating:

Reviewed by Ab C - Ab C Networc on 26/12/2007 The Samsung D840 is a good-looking version of the Samsung E900 (without the hidden touch sensitive buttons); inetrface wise and functionality wise, both the D840 and E900 are exactly the same. The biggest drawback on both of these phones is that it takes a long time to access the memory card; especially if you have alot of files stored on it. For example, if you are in your memory card, viewing the images you took using your 2mega pixel camera, going from one photo to another takes approximately 3.75 seconds (and thats with seven pictures in your image album). Even accessing the memory card takes about five seconds. when you take a picture and you want the D840 to store the picture on your microSD, it takes about 5 seconds. My feed back is that if you are a person that desires a phone for its good looks and simple functions such as make calls and receive calls, thi=en this is the phone for you. However if you desire a phone with a bit more stability and fucntions without cutting the "gorgeous" factor off your phone then I strongly would recommend a different brand altogether. Samsungs are renowned for manufacturing good-looking phones, but there is a massive room for improvment in the functionality area. I would rate the D840 3 out of 5 because in this day and age, there is very few people who want a phone just to make and receive calls. If Samsung built in a 2 megapixel camera in their phones must be able to with stand the demand for using such function; e.g. 2megapixel camera. Hope this review helps guys and i wish you happy xmas and a fantastic new year Rating:

Told that the battery life was short because of fault on phone which had been fixed --RUBBISH!!!!! Battery only lasting a few hours even when I do not use the phone. No good for emergencies as chances are phone will be dead!!! I have bought a new battery and now carry a spare with me just in case, but still only getting a few hours from both. Nice looking phone and like the picture quality but what use is a nice picture when you need t contact somebody urgently????? Reviewed by Kervan on 07/12/2007 The phone by itself nice but compared to other phones in the same class is not useful. As everyone says the battery dies very quickly. Actually I'm not having this problem as much as others are. Last night I made a phone call and after a couple of minutes it is broken. Once I make a call or receive a call I cannot hear the voice coming from the otherside. Afterwards, I went to techical service and they told me that Samsung doesn't produce this model anymore. The reason for that, many compliments have been made so far. I shocked and requested a different model in place of D840. Now I am looking forward to hearing from them. I hope they will give me a new phone as soon as possible. But this situation created a negative feedback about Samsung. Rating:

Reviewed by Helen Morton on 11/11/2007 I am now on the fourth D840 since May (it is now November). Various problems with the phone include, a battery that lasts less that 24 hours even when only used for one ten minute phone call. When replying to a text message it automatically reverts to manual text entering rather than the t9 predictive text I changed it to earlier. When sending a picture message the text comes up automatically in GERMAN!?? This phone is terrible. And now Phones4U don't want to do anything about it. They want to send my phone back to Vodafone but refuse to give me a loan phone in meantime. Basically they want me to pay for my contract whilst it's being 'fixed' but I won't be able to use it. Reviewed by Selamat on 23/10/2007 Just bought this phone and LOVE IT! I've been reading the reviews on low battery life but suspect that most of these users didn't go through the mandatory 8-hour charge before first using it. Without that first charge, the battery life would, I suspect, be as they have found it. I have found however, that my battery can happily last 1-2 days after being charged for the 20 minutes it takes for me to shower & get dressed in the morning. Texting can be a little awkward sometimes because its slim & wide, but I've adapted to a 2-thumb style, and it's great. Love using the phone - it fits against the side of my face so that I can cup my chin in the same hand. Love the menus - easy to use. Love the looks - makes me look good! Love the features. Love the price! Rating:

Not only does it look good, even get friends wanting to just play with it, the screen is excellent, sound quality through stereo headphones is excellent too. Texting is easy and quick too. Chaz complained about battery life (as did some others), i've had it about the same time and have no problems with the battery. Chaz, buy a new battery they're not expensive. Someone also complained about not being able to use bluetooth to connect to PC, I had no major problems doing that with a 7.99 bluetooth dongle. Just start connection from PC not from phone and it works fine for me. Only a couple of minor gripes, if you store music in folders on your memory card you cannot add them to the playlist, they have to be in the root folder to do that. 2nd gripe, you cannot delete any words accidently added to the predictive text dictionary. Apart from that, this phone has served me well and continues to do so. Rating:

Reviewed by Hugh Barlin on 07/10/2007 This is a teriffic little phone and I was very pleased when I got it. It doesn't have the easiest menu to use (the Sony Ericsson V600i has that) but all other functions seem fine. The connection to a computer is unnecessarly exclusive - the phone should come with the appropriate usb cable as standard. Mine didn't. The worst thing is that I have noticed that the battery seems to discharge very quickly after it has gone from a 3 bar reading to a 2 bar reading. After that, you are in trouble. I certainly wouldn't dare to use the music player because it would empty the battery in no time! If there were a fix for this, I would give the phone 5 stars. Since it renders the phone useless in a short time, it cannot even be good. Rating:

Reviewed by Jenny on 12/09/2007 I have had this phone since March 2007, a little under 6 months, and it is quite simply the worst phone I have ever had. The first problem started from the moment I put my T-Mobile SimCard in! The phone had an issue were it would very randomly turn itself off and then on again. Very annoying when I’d broken down and it did this repeatedly for 4 hours!!!! Took into T-Mobile who admitted it had been removed from their range as it appeared it was incompatible with the TMobile network?! NOT EVEN AN OFFER FOR A CHANGE OF HANDSET!!!! They exchanged my simcard and this seemed to rectify this although it has still done this since but only on a couple of occasions. Next problem, by far the one that has annoyed me the most! I had the phone on charge and needed to use it, the damn thing gave me an electric shock!!! This has happened on several occasions now and am taking the phone in later today as am not at all happy!! The final nail in this stupid phones coffin is n ow the screen has developed a fault!!! Now it when you slide the phone up instead of seeing the menu options you see a white screen or a rainbow effect!!! Sometimes the screen will function as it should but now its at a stage where its acting faulty more than it works so I have finally had enough. As you are tied into a contract for 12/18 months you expect the phone to last at least as long as the contract does, or at least I do! IF ANYONE WANTED MY OPINION DO NOT BUY!!! Rating:

Reviewed by Abu Dawood on 02/09/2007 I have had the phone for over 6 months now and there's little to complain about. The main gripe is that the phone cannot ring and vibrate at the same time. I e-mailed Samsung about this and it appears that it is a feature of the phone. The battery has a bad habit of showing 3 stars for about a week and then suddenly dropping to 2 and then 1 star within a couple more days. Non-linear! Texting is not particularly intuitive either. Reviewed by Ian Hay on 29/08/2007 I love the phone design & features but have experienced similar battery problems to most other reviewers - making it hopeless for normal useage. Now the phone won't charge at all. Phones 4U sent it away for repair but say it's not covered under warranty (even though it's less than 6 months old) since they claim it must have been damaged - which is absolute rubbish!! You can't damage the contacts through normal use - unless the parts are not 'fit for purpose'. I must now pay - even to get it back without repair for a second opinion. Has anyone else experienced similar problems? Rating:
Reviewed by Jason from Bucks on 27/08/2007 Keep well clear! My phone has been back to my provider 3 times and I am awaiting a replacement. The main issue is, that there is a bug with the s/w which makes the phone thinks the battery is charged when it is not. The bug is triggered when you download ring tones. The level of service I have received from my provider (Vodafone) has been atrocious; they really could not give a monkeys! Rating:

Reviewed by eminem on 30/07/2007 i would like this phone if it were in black because black looks better than silver. so i do not like silver but otherwise it looks a good phone if in black. Rating:
Reviewed by abbie stockley on 07/05/2007 The handset is poor i had three handsets within 1 month of having the phone. The phone switches off and back on constantly will not charge easily. I had mine through the carphone warehouse who i must admit changed the hanset each time the fault occurred. i wouldn't advise anyone to have this phone. Rating:
