Now, the right soft key, right arrow key AND the 'C' (erase/back) buttons dont work at all so texting is nearly IMPOSSIBLE so to sum up.... short term=great long term=terrible

I've had this phone for about 18 months now and have never had any problems. OK, it doesn't sing and dance like some but for all of the more basic features it works more than well. I'm just about to consider an upgrade, it's nice to move on to something else but I certainly don't regret buying the D800. Slim, good battery life and for a 1.3 mp camera it works fine. Like everything, you pay for what you get, if you want extra features you pay more. Reasonable, reliable phone, and I think it looks pretty good too.

this phone is possibly the worst i have ever owned, however there are some pro's. lets start with the keypad. Before it has been slid up, there are 5 big keys. the one on the right is the on/off switch, so if you sit down with it in your pocket, then even the slightest bit of pressure will turn your phone on, therefore sending a massive vibration rummaging through your pocket. Next lets move on to the text pad. this is IMPOSSIBLE to use as there is no spacing between the keys, so you fing yourself constantly writing words with jibberish in the middle. The screen quality however is OK. the graphics are not the best compared to phones like the sony erricsons; but the screen compliments the design layout quite well. samsung describe this phone as an mp3 player, but the sound is extremely tinny and echoes (literally). The memory is bad, however the camera is actually quite good. in daylight, the images are so clear, but at night, the images are very pixalated and are hard to make out what they are, mainly due to no flash, but due to samsungs incapability of making a phone with a better camera. Finally the ergonomics and asthetics come in to play. this phone at first glance does look very tacky with the mirror like plastic down the sides, however at a closer look, everything seems to just 'fit' for instance, when it is slid down, samsung has added just a very slight lump in the plastic, perfect for sliding up and down. Too hold the phone is also a pleasure, it is just wide enough, so it fills up your hand perfectly, that combined with it not being too heavy, makes it a good weight to carry, or have in your pocket. So in conclusion. this phone is certainly the most impractical to use, but it is like marmite, you either like it or you dont, in my view, i hate it, but for you, that may be different.

Dont touch it even with a barge pole. It's easily damaged and the battery isnt nearly as good as say a k800i. The only good thing is that its cheap and can hold loads of songs and it looks nice, but apart from that the speaker is bad and the charger gets real hot.

Looks nice, and slides smoothly (you'll want to slide it all the time) but I would get a better phone if you're considering buying it. It has some good features, but the back comes off easily and the ringtones can be really hard to hear. Overall I was quite pleased, it lasts a while and it's really nice in pink, though it could be slimmer and bit disappointing that it doesn't have a memory card.

The Samsung D800 was recomended to me by the store assistant at the time. I gave her the details of what I needed. Basically I just want to talk to people and send the odd text. I have found the other gadgets on the phone amuzing but of poor quality and little serious use. The sound quality for music and ring tones is poor, I rarely hear it ring even when I have it sitting out on my desk and if I am not near by. The memory has let me down a couple of times and decided to delete most of my phone book. The only features I did need text and talk where at best rubbish and worst non existant. The buttons are not user friendly and no one can hear anything I say due to the mic being on hte back of the phone and picking up all the back ground noise over my voice. I have had the phone a few months and will need to change it as the screen has now decided to play up and will scramble anything on it. On the whole i think the girl in the shop saw me coming and I will be changing it as soon as I can.

If you want a review that will actually help you decide if you should get this phone...read on. First off, I'm a bit of a techno-freak and have been for over 25 years. I've had mobile phones for longer than most people on here have been born! So, I speak from experience. Reading all the reviews below mine has proved...interesting. Let's get a few things straight about some of the unfair criticism that's been directed at this phone. If you want a device that can plays mp3's, and has lots of storage space - do what i did - buy an 80gb iPod! If you want a device that can take great photos - do what i did - buy a 5mb pixel camera. The Samsung D800 is a mobile phone...the operative word here is 'phone'. That's its primary use and what it should be judged on. How well does it manage the operation and administration of making and receiving calls? How easy is the integrated software to use? How well does the hardware of the phone perform? The answer to these questions is: Very Well, Very Easy and Very Well. The GUI of any device can take some time getting used to, but not the D800...its all common sense driven. The phone is light, yet feels compact and strong in the hand. The slider mechanism moves effortlessly and is well-balanced. There is a slightly raised area with a ridge on the bottom-centre of the slider (exactly where the Samsung logo is) and this is perfect for executing the up and down motion of the slider. Its a small thing, but when you want to move the slider up, you will sight the logo straight away. It will also prevent you having to touch the screen in anyway to move the slider, which I've seen some people do. The keypad is easy to use, and the keys are surprisingly responsive for a 'flat' style keypad. Battery life is very good. Obviously, the more you play around with the phone changing settings, using it as a toy for your music, photos, etc, then battery life will decrease substantially. But then, i use it as a phone! In summary, this is an exceptional phone...if that's what you want it to be. If you are looking for lots of bells and whistles, for it to make you a cup of tea and for you to solve World Poverty, this probably isn't the phone for you. Otherwise, go for it!

It was such a shame coz its a lovely phone. Although from the beginning people said they couldnt hear me properly. Its hard to text with at first but you soon get used to it. Anyone considering buying it...its up to you but the E900 would probably be the better choice.

The silver edges make it look different from other sliders and the ok button has a nice effect at night when the backlight is on. The cam and video are good so is the mp3 player. It should have a card slot but they wanted to make it for fashion and not for entertainment. Instead of extra option like themes and mp3 sms tones samsung give you other things like document viewer and tv output. You cannot have everything and if you go with samsung you get higher quality.

This is the worst phone that we have ever had. When we first got them we noticed that the reception was poor, calls were dropped and the line was breaking up all the time. We first thought this was Vodafone's signal but when we put the sim in a cheap Nokia the reception was fine! Thats just the start because there are MANY incredibly irritating design features. The alarm setting always resets back to default after you cancel - so you have to input your wake up time every time you go to bed and it ALWAYS resets to the most disturbing of ringtones and you HAVE to change that unless you want to be in a BAD mood all day. The battery is appalling - I am forever realising that I have 1/3 of charge, sending one text and the phone then alarming low battery. And when you decide to recharge overnight the darn light stays on and illuminates your home even when the phone is off. Texting is just plain strange, if you input an unusual word into the memory and then never use it ag ain it always comes up first befor a normal word like "there" and then you have to go back and change it. And then comes the voice recognition - this is not actually a feature more of a fun few minuits laughing about how bad it is - it rarely recognises what you say and when it gets it wrong the 3rd time (which it nearly always does) it tells you to "try later" - LATER, I wanted to call my Mum NOW....! I could go on but I have made my point - DONT BUY IT.....!

This phone is the definition of disapointing. had it for 3 months now and what can i say... At first I loved the phone thought it was really cool(but consider i had just upgraded from an NECe616!). But the phone is faulty and heres why 1- The sound on the ringer is poor, if your a girl with a hand bag and you use it to store items like your phone... you won't ever hear it even on loud. 2- i have replaced this handset twice now because now one can hear me when i speak to them ( i have a loud voice too) 3- the 2nd handset i could not hear anyone after 2months even when i turn up the vol' it jus sounded muffled. 4- rubbish O2 gave me the wrong setting codes and could not use the camera for a month! but when i used the cammra couldn't really see me ( i am black its not good when you can only see teeth in a pic!!!)the cammera has no flash not even a light...POOR. 5-the voice recognition is so bad that i can't begin to describe it 6- the buttons (if you can call em that) are so close together and are not easy to use if you have a- big hands or b- long nails... i have both!!! Plus don't buy this phone from PHONES 4U (especially one in Birmingham Bullring) as they make out like your crazy and that the phones the best thing since air! plus they always put you on the *^#*@ insurance which cost the earth and is none refundable. beware this phone SUCKS big time and so phones 4U keep away from both of them
