Reviewed by Becs on 27/08/2006 I upgraded to this phone from the Nokia 6230, which as expected, was a complicated and time consuming change due to all the differences in the way the phones text etc. I'll start off with the good things. It is so durable - i dropped my nokia 6230 in a cushioned bag on the floor and the screen smashed and the sound went proper dodgey, while my spv dropped and skidded on a concrete floor and was not affected! (except from the scratch of course). It is a nice size and very comfortable to hold in the hand. The buttons on the phone are easy to use plus the joystick is durable (unlike sony erricsons), the operating system is OK I do like how they have used windows on this phone. MSN is a fab application if you use it a lot on your desktop computer. The messaging function is also really easy to use - i had no problems getting used to this. There are a few problems with this phone that i have found a little annoying though. It is a very slow phone, and like an ordinary computer, there is a task manager that needs to be cleared of all applications in use to speed the phone up a little, which is time consuming. There are 2 and a half pages of menus and trying to find whatever you want can prove difficult. It took me ages to figure out where my pictures all were that were sent by friends. Because it has all of the applications, normal phone use can be affected and be slow, which in an emergency is not much use. I also found sending things via bluetooth to be incredibly slow. Overall, a good phone - I don't regret getting it - though I think I'll have had better. Rating:
Reviewed by Adam Chesmore on 17/08/2006 I've had this phone for well over 6 months now and it's not let me down at all. The housing is of great quality, and so doesn't break if you drop it. The screen is also really clear, however it does get scratched quite easily. The OS is good (Windows Mobile 2003SE) and although it takes 70 seconds to load up, it hasn't got many errors. The only errors that I have had are installing dodgey software, but then that isn't the OS, that's the software. The applications are very handy, and you can get loads more (mostly for free!). I've never had any problems connecting to my PC and syncronizing data (although quite slow) is easy to do. The 512mb miniSD card that is supplied with the Orange Music Player version is great and is very good for storing music and pictures, videos etc. The camera is of great quality, considering it is only 1.3 megapixel, and the pictures that you take are printable. The MP3 is very good quality (depending on the type of file and bitrate) and the stereo headphone are great. They have awesome bass and it's simple to use, because of the Windows Media Player 10.0 Mobile that comes already on it. The video quality is also very good. It's not easy to get used to though! Getting through your pictures, videos and music is quite difficult and complicated, so this phone is definately for business users and not kids/teenagers. It is an awesome phone and great value for money, as it cost £130 new from Orange and £100 online. I would definately suggest buying one is you are a business user or an adult who knows how to use one! Rating:
Reviewed by Jay Wakefield on 31/07/2006 When you get this phone it appears brilliant. The 1.3MP camera is of good quality, although in bright scenes it whites out some of the image, or doesn't show the sky. The MP3 player facilities are excellent. The player is loud on the headphones and the speaker, and there is lots of room to store your favourite music. Unfortunately, this phone has a lot of down sides, the first of which it runs Windows Mobile 2003SE as opposed to Windows Mobile 5.0. Unfortunately, this cannot be upgraded. This phone takes a good five minutes to load up. When you finally enter the operating system, you find it has a few insecurities. Unless you use desktop wallpapers that are of the irregular resolution of 240x300, they will only partially fill the screen, making it look slightly tacky. Also, Bluetooth is tricky as you send and recieve things in the same way that you would do with Infra-red. Unless you tell your phone to accept incomming beams, you cannot recieve files or business cards via bluetooth. Talking of business cards, you cannot send them via text message, you have to send vCard multimedia messages. Although you can make the text for the menus and text messages bigger on Windows Mobile, this option is not available on Pocket Internet Explorer, and as I am visually impaired, I found browsing the internet a very arduous and none-enjoyable chore. The biggest problems came however happenedI bumped into a table at school with the phone in my pocket. The screen is so flimsy it cracked, and Orange didn't want to know. I had it repaired but I decided to unlock the phone as Orange's service has gone downhill as their prices have gone the other way. I unlocked it without any problems but found that I could not use O2 WAP GPRS (I realised I need O2 Mobile Web for that to work, and I am on Pay As You Go) The phone also crashes quite a lot. The day after I bought my phone, I got a call from my girlfriend but I was playing Music in Windows Media Player at the time so the phone froze and I could not take the call. The final straw was when I needed to make an emergency phone call, and the phone would not let me dial out for some reason. Because of this, I went to the local O2 shop and bought myself a Nokia 6230i, and I don't regret it Rating:
