On my second one which has developed a faulty earpiece, when in calls you can barely hear the person your talking to. Currently fighting o2 to have a courier give me a new one and take these two from me. First one developed a fault where the whole handset heats up and the battery drains after 1hr. Very slow, and feels cheaply made, Feel like I have been conned. Anyone want to buy one give me a shout, cause unless I get a brand new phone I am selling these two as repair jobs.

Just got my N96 on orange this morning, after 10 mins of using it i figured i must have got a faulty handset as it is so slow! flickin through the inbox takes forever, the screen seems to half load and then starts loading again but most of my time is spent lookin at the wallpaper on the screen with nothing else on it while it loads. Hence came on here to see if anyone else has had the same problem and looks like im not alone. Such a shame as the video quality is excellent. Its pretty big but light as a feather aswell although i feel if i dropped it it would instantly disintegrate, it is not the most solid of phones.

Mark Shaw from the UK. You either work for Nokia or you have never held an N96 in your hands before. The N96 is a TRAVESTY of a phone. The processor is way underpowered for the features within. This phone is slow. VERY slow. So slow, you want to throw it out the window every time you use it. It crashes. A lot. Daily. The applications are not integrated. Get a call while using the GPS, you lose the GPS. Voice dialling simply does not work. It fails to interpret the simplest of names. And the TV feature is non-existent for users in Australia (didn't say THAT in the ads). I've had my N96 for two months now, and is the biggest regret of my life. Upgrading from my N80, I thought - as everyone else did - this was the wonder phone (from the reading the spec). The reality is FAR more disappointing. In fact, I'm SO disappointed with this phone I'm considering a class action against Nokia to get the phone fixed, replaced or refunded. If you're interested in joining in, please email me at N96classaction@hotmail.com. It's time Nokia found out what a piece of junk this phone really is and what their customers think about that.

Well getting my own N96 here in Nigeria, i think its not rubbish. It works fine for me though the battery life is not as good as that of my old N95 8GB but i still think its a great phone from all angles. It's not a slow phone. Maybe you'll need to update your firmware. And for the OVER THE AIR update it works for me fine. All phones should be updated using this method. NOTE: I currently go around with 2 batteries. N96 is not a bad phone for me.

Started off ok - I chose this one for its camera capabilities, and mostly for its large screen. I've had it about three or so months now and am beginning to get sick of it - it is slow and unresponsive most of the time (and I do have LOTS of memory left) and crashes often. The camera hasn't disappointed me, though, although Sony camera function on their mobiles is more user-friendly, I find. The battery is fairly good - it seems to last a while but then when it does start to drop, it drops like a stone. I also bought a standard memory card to add to it (don't know why as the memory is plenty) but I had to take it out as when I tried to look at photos, the phone tried to connect to the internet every 3 seconds. Even the techies at carphone warehouse couldn't understand that! I'm an Orange customer, by the way. Would like to get rid if I could find a phone with a decent camera AND large screen!

I would'nt normaly write on these sites, but after the last two weeks of pure hell with my Nokia N96 I just had to. After leaving Nokia two years ago to go to Blackberry I thought a change was due and as I was told on the phone by the nice lady at O2 that this was the phone to have at the moment and that it had push e-mail. Oh how wrong she was!! No push e-mail (which O2 admit I should have not been told) the phone constantly frezzes when changing applications, the user interface is awfull and comparing this to a blackberry 8210! I had been with Nokia for 10 years prior to going blackberry and t seems that they have only gone backwards, the phone is to chunky, battery life to short, too many applications that make the whole experiance slow and painfull. The worst phone on the market for e-mails. The only thing it has been good for was whatching the pre loaded Top Gear special!! O2 are now sending me an Iphone 3G, fingers cross or its back to blackberry.

Great phone but poor battery. Just use a Nokia N95 8 gig battery and the battery issue is solved. It will be a little bit tight to get in but its worth it. youtube.com/watch?v=w6Yqxa3RdI0 As for the phone freezing, two issues will clear this up. 1. Go to the Nokia website and update the software on this phone before using it. Ensure you have the latest software will ensure a smooth fast running machine. 2. When you have finished using applications, close them down and don't let them run in the background. You can check what is open by referring to task manager or go to the menu and if a blue circle is around the top left hand corner of an icon, that means its open. Close it. Following these two issues will prevent freezing. It did for me and I initially experienced freezing or hanging as they say in the streets.

I have had several Nokia phones in the past and fell into the trap again. The N96 is the worst phone i have ever owned. It hangs constantly, has to have its battery removed usualy 2 or 3 times a day, most applications hang at some point, music wont refresh, and is so slow its bordering on unusable. So if you are reading this, and wondering whether to buy one - run a mile from it. If somwone from Nokia is reading this, why dont you people carry out proper testing procedures prior to releasing phones. The N96 should never have been released, and will be the last Nokia phone i ever own

Prior to this applications would not close which drained the battery further. I would never buy a N98, it has been the worst performing phone that I have had.

As a mobile software developer I use a wide variety of handsets both symbian and windows based units but the 96 has to be THE most unreliable I have ever encountered. I'm on my forth handset due to various faults: Countless lock ups, poor reception, inaudable ring tones etc. Performed the software updates and still experiencing 2/3 lock ups per day. Battery life has improved over my old 95 but that's about the only improvement I can think of. Having to remove the battery 3 times a day and missing calls due to system freezing is ridicules for a £500 device. Many of the issues I've read here are related to the telco updates, an issue I've experienced in the past when trying to develop software using them. Since then I always buy unbranded devices so the current problems can not all be blamed on the telcom. Mines 100% standard nokia. Nokia took 6 weeks to release the first patch for unbranded devices, after it had released to to other 96 models. Poor quality software and sub standard support. Main issues are related to using bluetooth. When used a headset the phone WILL lock pretty much every time I use it. Without BT, I can get 1/2 day out of it before needing a battery remove reboot. I use it quite hard, with 3 or 4 apps open at any time, but Symbian is easily capable of this. I used to work at Nokia and they used to test software for months on their employees, which gave them rock solid release software. Who ever is in control of quality control now was obviously asleep on this one as it seems to be at pre-beta level. I'd be ashamed to release software this buggy!

I was told to put up with it till a software update came out, I waited and it came out last week. On updating the phone it crashed and left me with a blank screen, I took it back to carephone warehouse and they sent it back for repair, got it back a week later with updated software! guess what? still the same piece of rubbish as it was when it was new. I am now in contact with nokia care and have asked them to replace it or I will cancel the contract with o2 due to them not supplying a usable item. Maybe I have a bad phone but my advise is AVOID it!

I love this fone, it's great, it's brill and does everything i want it to but it wont stop crashing. It's crashed anywhere up to 17 times in one day but that was roaming through different networks when abroad. It may feel tacky with a naff plastic back cover that pops off every now and then with a really poor battery life if you use the bluetooth or anything else. If its the new features, then put a bigger battery in it at least. I'm not a vodofone customer or Orange as we dont have those in the channel Islands but it does seem to be the network protocols that are different on every network that make the thing crash more than usual. Until Nokia sort out the problem, looks like i might have to buy another fone, would get an iPhone but from what I've seen, they are even worse with less features for somethings that are standard on normal fones. Will have a look at the Samslug i8510 instead.

Do not buy this phone. The N96 still has all of the software problems of the N series, it crashes when trying to do more than one thing at a time. It freezes on approx 5% of incoming calls, requiring you to remove the battery to get it going again. reception is poor and speaker sound is muffled. I had the N80 before and hated it for most of the time I had it, the only reason I thought I would try the N96 was that surely Nokia must have fixed the buggy N series software in 2 years - but no! This is the end of the line for Nokia as far as I am concerned. I have had many different Nokia phones over the years, but I just get more and more disappointed. The only problem is that reading the other reviews, it seems to be the same for all the major phone manufacturers. So now I just want a relatively low tech phone that has good battery life, call quality and maybe a half decent camera. Basically one that i do not have to waste a lot of time on trying to fix the problems and call the various tech support lines etc....

Had the N96 (on Vodafone) for about a month now. I'm not new to NSeries phones, had an N70 (crap) and then a 1st gen N95 (excellent). Experience on the N96 so far? Mixed, but generally positive. Design No cover for the camera optics - scratch that glass and your pictures aren't going to look so pretty, 5MP or not. The back cover contains an antenna so we're probably going to be stuck with the original one. Might be worth thinking of a screen protector for the lens. The kick stand is a great idea and makes watching video much easier. I don't understand why that was missed on the N95 - so cheap but yet so useful. Biggest drawpack is the keypad. I'm an average sized bloke, but have real trouble with it - particularly the '*' and '#' keys, which are smaller than the others. Being smooth, there is little feedback that the buttons have been depressed. The smooth keyboard looks cool, but is less practical. OS/Software I haven't noticed any big problems mentioned by others, though I checked for and updated the firmware quite quickly. It seems quicker, but that said, it has rebooted itself on occasions for no apparent reason (although they have been infrequent). GPS Seems to be improved on the N95 - faster to get a position fix. Memory It seems huge. I already had an 8GB card I put in so I'm up to 24GB. Plenty of space for movies and TV episodes. Video The BBC iPlayer is very useful. The quality of downloaded programmes is excellent, and that makes it much improved over my past experiences of mobile TV (which have to be paid for anyway). I used to use DixX mobile for playing video, but I have always had trouble with synching the audio and the video. Using the Realplayer supplied with the N96 plays video very well, and better than any other player I have found. It won't play avi/divx files though, so the DivX application still has it's place unless you convert them to mp4. Audio Haven't played around with this too much, so can't really add anything. The headphone jack being moved from the side looks to be a smart idea though. Internet/Data Can't see any differences over the N95. Battery Life About as bad as the N95. I understand the firmware upgrade from v10 improves battery life, so if you already have the N96 upgrade it if you haven't already. I bought a spare battery for the N95, which conveniently uses the same battery as the N96. With three batteries I find I have enough power to get me through most of the time when I am away from a charger. Other issues "Share Online" is a pain. I have started to use Flickr, and I have "23*" shown on the standby screen. No idea how I get rid of it. The 3D tones function also made my ringtones inaudible, and took a while to figure out why. In my opinion, an inexcusable bug in a phone. Summary I upgraded beacause I was changing suppliers and also wanted a lot of bundled minutes. The N96 was therefore a no-brainer for me, but if you have the N95 stick with it unless you have similar reasons as the N96 is evolutionary not revolutionary, and in some respects is better. I suspect iPlayer will be rolled out on the N95 soon enough which is the biggest plus the N96 has in my view.

I'm of rational mind and calm demeanour but this phone makes me want to kick cats off of tall buldings. A truly awful "phone" that promises a great many things but delivers little except frozen white screens. Infuriating beyond belief and in so many ways that it is hard to know where to begin. Instead I will say that my neighbourhood is now a cat free zone. My only regret with this phone is that I ever got it in the first place.

the phone is really good its just 2 big but it got really nice stuff is full of stuff that you dont get sick and tried from it i say to get the n95 because is exactly like it just smaller and a half less of the memory but 8gb is just fine for who really needs 16gb

this phone as with most nokias is excellent. i can only assume the only people that rate this phone on here are the ones that have problems. phone does it all, excellent pictures, good sound, good size screen and lots of features. have had n95 for around a year and apart from battery life (due to 3g) there has been no problems. menu is excellent and texting is great if you use predictive text. just to add nokia warrenty is for 2 years on their phones which is great...not that i have had a problem yet!
