Rating: Reviewed by StevieP on 22/06/2009 Well I've had it for 18 months with no problems at all but I foolishly decided that as it was the end of my contract with O2 I'd get an iphone 3G s. Purchased it Sunday afternoon and took it back Monday morning! A real let-down; no bluetooth connection to other phones, ringtones (including music) restricted to 28s and only available through itunes for money, the only attachments to email allowed are pics or notes from the phone, no flash/light for the camera. I could go on. I realized that Apple are just con artists and I now know the N95 rocks. God bless Nokia. May look at an N97 as and when. Rating: Reviewed by Andy on 21/06/2009 I’ve had the N95 8gb for about a year now, and I’m sorry to say it’s the WORST phone I have owned. I got it to replace the N90 (second worst phone I owned). I have had problems with the N95 from day one. It crashes several times a day, meaning I have to remove the battery to turn it back on. This can happen a few times an hour. The keys seem very slow to act when you press them, sometimes they dont seem to work at all. I do have to admit that the phone is impressive when it works for me. The screen is superb, and very clear. The memory is fantastic, I no longer need a seperate MP3 as the N95 stores more than enough music. Its just a shame that it’s the music player that seems to crash the most. If anyone was thinking of buying a N series phone from Nokia, I would have to advise them against it, as the two I have had (N90 & N95) have been very disapointing. It’s even put me off buying another Nokia phone. Sorry Nokia! Rating: Reviewed by Alps on 14/06/2009 Wow! what can i say, this phone is absolutly brilliant! I normally tend to get drawn in by the more over fancy looking phones but this time i decided to go with a recommendation and get the n95 8gb and wow simply brilliant. Packed with features and very easy to use. The music software is very easy to use and don't you don't need a computer science degree to use. Initially I didnt think it was a particularly good looking phone and to be honest i thought i was abit on the chunky side but not long after having the phone the looks have grown on me an as for the size i think its perfect especially for texting and general operation. I can't see myself trading this in so some time 5 star all the way! Rating: Reviewed by Gary on 12/06/2009 I've had my N95 for 18 months now and I can't find myself a new one with better features and functionality than my current handset. It is one of the best phones on the market to date in terms of its features. My only issues with it are the fact I've had 3 replacements (all software relataed) and I have to go through 2 fully charged batteries daily. I've also noticed its not the best phone for surving when dropped so I wouldn't pick it if you drop your phone. Overall I think it's a great all rounder. If you can put up with the few drawbacks it is perfect for your every need. Either way, now's the time to spend £15-£20 taking it to your local independent phone shop. Get it completely restored to standard Nokia software rather than whatever custom operator rubbish is holding it back. Do this and you'll get a great camera, ultra fast location finding on google maps, non-stuttering internet radio and access to iplayer in the UK. Kicks the ass of the n96 without an upgrade. Now get a sim only deal and and save a fortune. There's no better hardware out there yet. It's a fantastic phone. I've experienced no crashes and the battery life's fine. This also has the best phone camera I've ever seen! Rating: Reviewed by Megan on 20/05/2009 i had this phone for 18 months and it was absolutely brilliant! so many useful features and a lovely big screen. very quick response wise and incredibly user friendly. only negatives i can say are that it used to switch off when it got too cold (i.e. if u are outside in very cold temperatures like 2 or 3 degrees for extended periods of time) and it wouldnt come back on again until it warmed up. also it did crash 2 or 3 times in the 18 months and it switched itself off about once a month! oh and also it totally lost all its power once when it was about 15 months old and i had to get it repaired but even with these negaatives i still loved it! i just upgraded to a nokia 6220 classic which has all the same features but is smaller, so we'll see how it goes! I insisted on a 12 month contract when I got it cause I got so bored of my last phone... Needn't have bothered, I had it for 12 months in the end... And I am thinking maybe I should go ahead and upgrade, and commit to another 12 months with it.... The camera is great, the video quality superb for a little phone, and plugs straigt into your tele, which is a hoot afetr a night out. I miss my phone, and can not recomend it enough to people... Just rememeber to back up the pictures you take on it's huge memory... Rating: Reviewed by Brooke on 18/04/2009 I've had the phone for over a year and a half now and have to say on the whole it is not a bad phone. When I first had it, it ran quite well, however as time has gone on it has started to slow quite considerably, especially bearing in mind it wasn't that quick to begin with! I've tried deleting all music/pictures thinking it may have been overloaded(!), however this made little difference, if indeed any at all!!! Also the camera, whilst it takes, at times brilliant photos (depending on light etc), it's prone to blurring and not only takes ages to load the camera itself (by which time you may have missed what you wanted to photograph) but also to show you your photo once taken! As for the battery life, don't get me started! I wouldn't consider my use of the phone to be excessive yet it seems to need charging on a near daily basis which is very annoying, especially if you are away from home without a charger at anytime! People have mentioned freezing, something whic h I have experienced once in close to two years, it must also be noted that this followed my friend dropping it!!! If it weren't for the phone getting slower as time goes on I wouldn't be upgrading; the memory is brilliant, music player fantastic (used plugged into speakers as music for numerous parties!), large display, good if a little slow camera - Has served me well! Just one word of warning for those with long nails....texting, whilst possible, is at times a little tricky! Rating: Reviewed by Tom on 15/04/2009 I've now had this phone for about 10 months on contract with Orange. It is a very good phone. There's no denying it. It has everything you could possibly want and need. The signal strength is good as well - I find signal in a lot of places that others couldn't which is good. However, it all comes back to the battery life again. It's pityful. If you use the phone at all, e.g playing music, taking a few pics, the phone will last about 6 hours. At best. One very strange thing is if you use an application on it, then close it down and leave the phone, iot continues to drain the battery for no apparent reason. You'll check your phone an hour later and it's lost like 3 bars of battery! But if you just have it switched on in your pocket, then you can get about a day and a half out of it. Then there's how the phone works itself. It is excrutiatingly slow. When opening a text message, there's a definite wait of about 2 seconds. Doesn't sound much, but when you're actually using it it's so frustrating!!! You just want to scream at it. By the way, that only happens when you have a lot of texts. When you first get the phone and theres nothing on it, it's fine. On the plus side, mine rarely crashes. It has done in the past, and I had to take the battery out to sort the problem. But like I said, I've had it for 10 months and it's only done it 2 or 3 times. I do think when my contract ends I will get a new phone. There's only so long you can wait for a text to open. But it is a flashy phone and it's nice to have people staring in awe at your high-tech gismos :) So I gave it 4 out of 5. Within the first month it kept crashing. Then it would go through my contact list ringing people randomly by itself. The phone wouldn't lock. And now the camera doesn't work at all. The pace of the phone is slow. i had it replaced twice and still faced the same problems, mainly that my calls get cut off half way through and that the phone freezes and has to be switched on agian. a further problem is the low battery life. i've had the phone for just over a year and have had to replace the battery twice or else it just dies. it also happens to look like quite a brick! Rating: Reviewed by Arron Fitzgerald@gmail.com on 04/04/2009 I used the N95 8gb for around three weeks, and can comfortably say that, apart from the high quality of the camera/camcorder, it is the most over-rated phone on the market. It shares all the problems of other S60 'smartphones' (generally slow operation, poor text message functionality, lack of smart dialling, among many others), and includes some of its own including a bizarre landscape only screensaver (non-adjustable). Despite its macho appearance and reputation as the BMW X5 of mobile phones, I was immediately struck with the poor build quality (very cheap and flimsy navigation and soft keys) and how broadly underpowered the phone seemed. I am at a loss to explain how a phone that doesn't inform you who a text message is from on the standby screen (and accordingly no contact image), doesn't tell you when a message was sent/received without digging through sub-menus, doesn't recognise emoticons, and doesn't have a 'recently used' sms recipient list can be so po pular. In this respect this 'smartphone' is substantially less advanced that most feature phones (including Nokia's), and feels as if it's several generations older than modern Sony Ericsson feature phones. I can imagine that for younger, tech-obsessed users the expandability of the s60 platform is attractive (one can search websites to find an application that enables smart-dialling, although it's still inferior to the native SE equivalent) and other useful apps that can tell you, for example, how slippery it currently is on the pavements of Moscow, but for anyone else this is slow, clunky, buggy, overpriced and substandard phone that they should avoid. However when you get it home you quickly find out that the camera whilst sharp and detailed is not at all practical in that the flash is rubbish and it takes more then a minute to even turn the camera on. The main problem is that the phone freezes all the time and crashes as well. Iv had 2 differant replacments and have finally given up and gone back to my old sony K800i !!! As it was so good it was worth having another. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but I had so many problems with it I took it back. It seems some work very well and some dont. This time when I click on tools - applications and click on the calendar icon nothing happens. Trouble is ,looking a sites like this its apparent there are far too many phones dished out by big companies with known software issues and from what I've read gullable younger customers are being fobbed off because they dont know their rights! The thing about this phone is that it's such a multimedia based phone that people expect it to run just as long as any other phone..which just won't happen. I'll be the first to admit that it's the shame that the likes of Windows Live Messenger on my N95 drains sooooo much battery...but with it off, I get about 2-3 days worth which is fine. I've learned to optimise the usage by disabling everything. Basic functions, ease of use, customise to your needs. GPS is great when it works in strong signals and you can use nokia maps for free. Really good sound from speakers and ear phones. Camera is great but not the best. Battery is a big improvement over the std N95. If it wasn't for the slow start up and one of crash restarts it would get a 5. I have just upgraded to a LG Renoir which I'm sending back full of software faults and smiling with the N95 8Gb. Wish the N96 was more of an improvement as an upgrade its not worth it. With average use, no wifi searching and about 2 hours gaming per charge, I can only get 2-3 days per charge out of the phone. It has gone as low as 1 day per charge, but I was making a few phone calls that day. 2) The predictive text is rubbish! On my old SE W810i it would remember my most frequently used words. On this phone, it has a list of words that I have to go through whenever I use some frequently used, non-standard words. I've only ever used the word 'fan' once, yet when I put in 'dan' (my son's name) it comes up with 'fan'. How is that predictive. Come on Nokia, get with the times. Other than those minor niggles, it is a good phone, but the poor battery life (W810i gave me a week or more with the same level of usage) and really annoying predictive text take it down a notch or two. I'm sorry Nokia, but I should have come back to you after my Sony K800i, instead of wasting my time and money on LG. The N95 8GB is so easy to use, I wish I'd opted for this as my contract phone in the first place. I love the camera, love the menu setup, love the GPS when used with Garmin MobileXT, love the applications. So it hasn't got the 16GB of the N96, but then I have a Cowon Iaudio 16GB that's a tad bigger than a matchbox that suits my music needs. I've also got the latest firmware already installed. It works perfectly. Hats off to Nokia as well for the superb software that actually does what it's supposed to. Amazing facilities (even includes a Bar Code Scanner!!!) Office tools, Adobe Acrobat reader and a multitude of other tricks. Camera gives great results, though the flash is only poor. Had no problems at all, though because of the multitude of facilities it is a complex tool to get used too. GPS works great - though could not really replace a normal Sat Nav installed in a car. Supplied PC software on the CD is outdated, and better to download the appropriate PC Suite from the Nokia web site. My only negative thought is that its a shame its not an all metal construction, the keyboard and slide face/screen is housed in plastic, which is less robust. The keyboard works fine for me and had no crashes at all so far. FM Radio works great too, and good sound quality through headphones. Battery life seems good considering all it does. WiFi Lan works fine and connected easily to my home network. If the facilities are what you want, they the N95 8G is definately worth considering. Rating: Reviewed by BobM on 22/01/2009 Well I finally gave up on this phone. I owned one for six months. I was a big Nokia fan and loved the intuitive nature of their phones. The first smartphone I had was an N70 but that was not great so moved over to SE for a while, but when I was offered the N95 as a free upgrade I thought well why not. I liked the fact that is is a large phone, chunky suits me. But the buttons are smallish and not that easy to operate. The camera takes an age to take a picture and is not as good as you might be led to believe. The GPS is a joke - too slow to be of any use whatsoever. Sound quality is excellent. Most annoying thing for me was the incredible slowness of the phone. Takes ages to do anything. On the positive side it is not as battery hungry as I thought Went back to my old SE which is really beginning to show its age but it is better that this. Within the first few months my sister's one kept crashing and the screen on hers was very fragile and broke 3 times, costing £40 each time to repair until she gave up and got a new phone. I still have mine and it's been fine until now, as the screen has broken. I've also noticed a high pitched sound coming from my phone when i hold it to my ear. But it has been over a year and it's been fine up until now. Many of my other phones haven't lasted this long. Overall my phone has been brilliant, but my sister's one was awful. I guess it's the luck of the draw! I mainly wanted a phone with more sms and contacts capacity plus more mega pixels too... Shame the N95 can't save photos to contact list in full screen... This thumbnail version is too small to see clearly, when receiving a call... The GPS is also useless, as it should be built-in like in the 6210 and ready to use... It's also very bulky in size, so with that in mind, I can't see the N95 as good value... I have had this phone for a couple of weeks now, and think it's a great phone. I have had no real problems with it. The free music is great, although I don't want to clog up my phone with too many tracks. It has crashed, but only occasionally, which is easily resolved by turning it off and on again. There are one or two niggling little things, but nothing much, and I will list them below. PROS: - Good screen size. - It's faster than my previous phone, which was an N73. I can scroll through the menus much quicker. - I actually like the large solid chunky feel and design of it. - I like the menu layout, but that is because I am used to Nokias. - The camera is excellent - The 8G of storage is big enough for anyone, remember it is not a computer. - It sounds daft, but I like the way the alarm clock starts off quiet and gets louder, rather than just being LOUD from the start! A nice, gentler way to be woken up. - It doesn't have that annoying flashing light at the top of the phone that the N73 had. - I love the way the screen rotates when you move the phone onto it's side, and you can turn this off if you want. CONS: - It does occasionally freeze, but not often. - The battery life is poor-ish. However, this was when it was brand new and I was playing with it all the time. It does need recharging frequently. - The keys are a little small and I have small fingers! I keep hitting the wrong key, but it's nothing a small delete won't cure. - I would prefer it if the camera lens could be covered up, it's exposed and I am worried about scratching it, although I haven't done that yet. - It is big, fat, chunky and relatively heavy-ish. But as there are a lot of applications, it's bound to be and I don't mind it. Plus, it's worth it for the big screen. Yes it does have its pitfalls, in the main its stability, but as a user of all it functions you find there consistant and you work round them. Once you have got use to this phone its features are teriffic. It has the diversity of a PC with extras added. The wireless LAN connection is used all the time for browsing, and I use voice over IP using Trufone. The sat nav function is cute and if you subscribe to nokia maps it speaks as well as tom tom. Use a remote bluetooth sat nav detector and it works underground! The 5 meg camera is good and the video recorder is of a good quality that plays back well to a composite eideo jack on the TV. Loads of mem 8Gb, can hold several movies. Lots of 3 party software available (MOSH is a good source). You can also make phone calls. In general a good buy, Ive had mine almost a year now and the novelty is still there. It is a bit heavy and chunky but it is very well built and the battery life is good if you remember to switch off the wifi and bluetooth when not in use. It can get through the day with these switched on and in use though even after 10 months battery use. If you have not had a smart phone before I dont think you will be disapointed. I have gone several years now away from Nokia and went back to them because of this multi-featured product. I havent been dissapointed. I would not even give it a "1 star" rating, because star it aint! It is wholly useless, unintuitive, slow and prone to crashing and abrubt battery failure even when charged. My good old 6310i has more charisma and functionality than this pile of junk. Where to start? GPS is dysfunctional, too slow to be of any use and costly to use. The video camera and low light still camera cannot be used without a great light shining out of the front - no good if you are recording suspicious activity, a crime or do not want to be noticed (for whatever reason). The battery life is just woefully inadequate at around 24-28 hours (normal use, not on 3G, but much worse if you are) and not matched to this phone's supposed performance. The phone is just infuriating when you want to call someone from the contacts list - it keeps interrogating your actions as to text, video, multimedia etc. I have come close so many times to just winging this phone out the car window! The N95 may look smart and high tech but the quality is like a 1970s Hong Kong toy. The most basic request can turn into a nightmare search to access the feature. For example: when you want to adjust the volume you have to crash through various menus or wait until you are called or play music. Trying to set the volume to low level in a passive mode takes forever. The supplied manual is a joke too! I hate this phone and wish Nokia to go bust for inventing it. BOO, HISS, HATE!!! I lost that feeling 2 weeks later when it died and I had to get another from the 3rd vodafone outlet I had to travel to on the same day with said ex-phone. The new one has kep going now for over a year but its still full of problems. It crashes every month or so, usually while on the phone, it has a woefully inadiquate battery, that even with all the funcionality off, lasts less than 24hrs. The GPS takes ages to find a signal and you have to pay extra for the 'sat nav' to work and its a limited service compared to the base model Tom Tom or Garmin. Wifi does not work properly, even on my own home wi fi net! Vodafone live (the free bit of internet) is a waste of time. The back cover for battery fell off 3 months ago and its now taped on. The clear cover I bought to protect it lasted 3 weeks beacause the slide design is not compatible with a serious cover. The software is slow, cluncky and not very pleasing to th e eye. The camera take ok photos, but they take forever to take, they fill the memory in no time and are easy to blur. Does not take good low light or night pictures ( the kind you want to take when you dont have a proper camera) I use mine now as a mains supplied alarm clock, that about the use of it. It was the first nokia i bought since the 90's and it has put me off Nokia for a long time. Pants. The music player is just as loud as any radio or music player, therefore impressing me loads. I have been on pay as you go with this phone and am thinking about going on contract, so i have read through some reviews and am thinking about buying the Samsung i8510 which appears to be a samsung copy-cat. Its 8mp camera sounds impressive, but will the phone follow out its description? Another good phone is the N96 - a N95 follow through. this phone really does look the bussiness. I had this phone for 8 months, it was the first Nokia iv ever used and i ended up exchanging it for a nokia 5310i and that was after spending nearly 2hrs on the phone to my network provider, due to being on an 18mnth contract, pleading with them that i'd take anything they could offer me, thats how awful the N95 was for me! It has so many faults with it that Nokia are aware of but don't seem to be able to fix and, if you look on internet, there are far to many other N95 users with the same problem for it to be deemed a successful mobile. The camera/video picture quality is rubbish compared to the LG Viewty,that i have also used, which is by far the superior. It sells itself on 'sat-nav' and all the other bits of software you get with it or can add when in reality I think the technology of this phone needs its 'creases ironing out'. I shant be choosing a Nokia phone again, it was enough to put me off for life, it wasn't even the phone i wanted when i was renewing my contract, I wanted a Sony but alas it was out of stock and would be for at least 4mnths so i opted for what i thought would be just as good if not better from what id seen of it and the advertising from Nokia. Cheap, the buttons are horrible plastic things which chip and loose their coating very quickly. Just about every function cost money to use like GPS, Email. Doesn’t come with any games; have to pay to get them. The system is very slow, takes ages to search through the menus and the camera (used) to take about 7 seconds to come on. I was so looking forward to getting this phone, as it was my first Big, all singing and dancing phone, but I hate it, I think it's cheap and poorly made. Rating: Reviewed by nokia nick on 15/09/2008 Currently I'm 12 months into an 18 month contract and have found the n95 a pleasure to be shackled to up to present. It has everything that you could ask for, and if it doesn't then you can go online and download more applications from sites such as "Mosh by Nokia" for free!! The speakers are good as is the 5mp camera, which even works well in the dark. Now the negatives...The battery life can be quite dismal depending on inter-net usage especially if you use the WI-FI. I find that I am usually charging my phone around twice a day but then again I am always fiddling with it...oo er missus! On occasion I find that the N95 does crash/freeze but this is easily resolved..just switch it off and on! One more thing that i find irritating, but I doubt that this is Nokias fault, I seem to get 3G connection everywhere, if I took my phone to the moon I'd get 3G, but in my house....NO CHANCE! I'm lucky to get a signal. If you see a house with a looney hanging out of the window, waving a phone around then it's me trying to make a call. All in all the nokia n95 is a cool phone that does everything except wipe ya.....eyes! Rating: Reviewed by Dave on 13/09/2008 OMG do not even get me started on this phone, i started out about 18monts ago with the N95 and had some issues witht he os had all upgrades and updates done but it just froze on me all the time, would just have a mind of its own ... turn off in your pocket or just not ring when someone was calling me!!! so i had the phone replaced 3 times so was on my forth phone when the screen gave up on me and the phone was at this point only 8 weeks old i took it back to nokia again... they told me it was out of warrenty cos my replacements meant the 12months wty was from my original purchase...... 500gbp and never had a phone to work .... so i thrw that in the drawer with the totally shocking N80... and bought the N95 8Gb geeeze its just the same... took it back straight away got my money back...was thinking i was giving of some sort of static electricity.... but i then bought the E71....wow works just great lovely little phone so sooth and easy to use.... screw the N series phones .... so i now have N80 which will not turn on 2 N95s one that just shuts off all the time or freezes the other only 8 weeks old which needs a new screen, i been told by nokia you cant replace the screens.... is this true?????? or are these all destined for the rubbish dump ??? Camera is great in good light conditions works ok in poor light but needs a little more setting up to give good pictures. All the features work well, mapping, wireless LAN etc, all in all a really great phone which I have no problem recommending. I bought it on EBay locked, what a mistake as I then waited till April 2008 for an unlock code so I could use my Orange Sim, still, I had plenty of time to mess about with it, videoing, taking photos etc, Its connected to my MacBook and thats V Handy. It has always worked well, the battery lasts approx 4 days in phone mode, one & a half when played with all day. GPS is accurate and Nokia maps are very handy. Primarily a Vodaphone phone I'm looking at one of their contracts to utilise all the gadgets cheaper & better, Orange charge me a fortune. I'd buy another tomorrow, honestly its super duper. I fancied this N95 at the onset but got talked off it-wished I hadn't listened-simple as that! The one I've got is a 'boxed' one and found it won't recognise the memory card, so have got a brand new one coming :) I love this phone-simple as that. Even the one I'm using is a pure delight. This phone has everything you'd want...and more AND its so fast! I've had the N73-hubbys got it now- so expected the N95 would be as slow, but its so fast its unreal! I was truly surprised at this. It looks good, works well (battery life bit yuk) good to text with when you get used to the smallish keys, is fast to send texts and works brillaintly browsing online. The camera seems good too although I have yet to really use it. Another thing I love about it is its speaker system-so clear and when it rings! LOUD :) beautiful! I got it on an 18-month contract with Orange 12 months ago, and in that time I have had nothing but problems with it. The first came in the first week of owning the phone when the screen packed in. Each problem has been different, ranging from hardware faults like broken buttons and dodgy screens to software glitches where the phone acts completely by itself and does all kinds of crazy things! The N95 does indeed have some impressive features, and the camera has even replaced my dedicated digital camera! However the software is slow, full of bugs and crashes VERY frequently. The battery is terrible and the phone will require charging every day. And above all, the biggest problem the phone has is that it is FAR too easy to accidentally unlock when it's in your pocket. Say, for example, it's in the pocket with something else such as an ipod or a wallet, the keys are pressed and the phone is unlocked causing all kinds of mayhem! The N95 has totally destroyed my confidence in Nokia, and I will never own one again. The wifi perfect and never ever had a problem with calls or reception.I live near a beach and before I had a samsung D900 and couldnt get reception on the beach and the N95 is crstal clear.Only downside is making sure you are never far away from your charger as if you need to make a lot of calls in one day your sure as hell need to recharge by early evening! Due for an upgrade in a couple of months and Ill have trouble beating this to be honest! It's just that it's too sensitive. And if your unit is out of warranty, you would really spend a lot to have it fixed. The N95, as you know is a slide phone. I accidentally leaned on it with my elbow...boom! The screen flickers since them. And as an effect, the electronics had some short circuit which makes the battery run out fast (fully-charged phone didn't last a day) I had is checked from NOKIA CARE. They change the whole slide. It's ok now, but it's just darn scary to get expensive phones. It's great to have lots of gadgets, but you should really get the basics right. Very un-user friendly in terms of getting from menu to menu and this is as well as being INCREDIBLY slow to respond. The camera is good, but not worth the suffering of the awkward keys, especially if you are not a slender fingered girl, but still like to text at all. I gave it 10 dayss to see if I could get used to it, but an awful lot of people I met that had had this phone for months, told me it doesn't get any better, so back it went. A real shame as I was really looking forward to getting this phone after all the hype. If you want a toy to fiddle with, I'm sure all the gadgets will keep you entertained for hours. If you want something useful, look elsewhere. Had an N73 before so moving to the N95 seemed like a natural progression. The good thing is that the symbian operating system is similar so I didnt have to sit there for hours trying to work things out. Of course there are a pile of things that the N73 didnt have and thats what attracted me to the phone. Yes it's a bit slow but we live in a world where we have forgot to wait and like Mamma always said "the best things come to those who wait". The output from the speakers is very good and its great to have a standard jack to plug headphones in. I have plugged my Bose headphones in and of course the sound is awsome and those dedicated audio keys are really cool. The phone is a little chunky but hey, I ain't gonna loose it. My preference I know, but I'm not too keen on anything too slim, I have to keep my ipod in it's box otherwise that could get lost. Not quite sure why I need a barcode scanner? but it's another cool thing to show the guy's anyway. The camera is very good, ok so there is only digital zoom but you got 5 mega pixels to use so it ain't all bad. And how about being able to plug it into a tv? WOW. I live in an area of Dartmoor which gets a real bad signal, with the N73 I used to have to walk around the house and garden waving my arms around and balancing on high objects to maintain a signal. With the N95 though, as long as I open the slide, I pretty much get a signal anywhere even if it just one bar. Got to be another plus for the phone if you like me struggle to get that signal. The sat_nav isnt what I expected it to be but it's ok. There are other maps you can download too, found these after a trawl on the net. OK, so I have not covered all of the bit's and pieces that the N95 has but I have to maintain that it is an excellent bit of kit. There is one worry though, the amount of them you see for spares or repair on a well known auction site! Hmm, yes always in the back of my mind???????? But hell, I just had to have one!! After that I got the second one 8gb version which lasted for 10 months until it also broke apart. Both my N95 were made in Finland (and not china made)I had excellent battery life throughtout its use. But the only problem was its volume adjuster at the side. In both my phones the volume adjuster broke at first and the rest of it..lol This phone is great for taking photos and listening music. It has never crashed. It is absolutely fantastic. All of the features are amazing and everyone comments on how much of a cool phone it is lol. The music quality is really good with headphones, and in calls I find the speaker volume more than satisfactory. The battery life is good, unless you start really heavily using it like playing music and using wifi and calling regularly. But otherwise it is good!! I do not regret buying this phone, despite my concerns before buying it. It is really good!! I am not using thisphone now as half of the charger plug fell off then the adaptor fell out of the phone so i cant charge it up anymore. But apart from that the extras make the phone an even better investment, but who cares - get on a contract and you get a new one in 12 months anyway!!! Although, its really not that good at all. The phone in general is really slow and I cant send text messages. It keeps going into outbox and after a few times it says its failed. It is great, truly an awesome bit of kit. In the main, the changes from the original N95 are subtle, but add up to a vast improvement over what was already a great handset. The 8Gb memory and bigger screen are welcome features (even though the screen's only slightly bigger, it makes a difference). Best phone out there for my money. I was tempted by all the touch screen goodness out there but I went for toys and technology over style and image (not that the N95's not got those, too!) and I am happy with my decision. Rating: Reviewed by Roy on 25/06/2008 What I noticed in a lot of consumer reviews, is that there is a major difference between certain comments on how long the battery survives. Some people mentioned 4 days of battery standby. Others are talking about recharging it at a daily basis. The problem however is, and I know it for sure because I am a employee of KPN in the Netherlands that work in a callcenter, that before you use the mobile phone for the first time it is neccesary to charge the battery until it is fully recharged. A lot of consumers want to try their mobile phone as soon as they manged to get it out of the box. Problem is that the battery doesn't get the chance to use it's full capacity. I hope this is useful. I did exactly the same and I am now currently waiting for my 3rd swapout because these phones are faulty! I read other reviews and yeah fair enough, the phone runs slow when you have too many applications open....but it shouldn't switch itself off on a regular basis. Also this is the 2nd phone where the microphone doesnt work!!! I've upgraded early and asked for the N95 8g to see if its any better but with all seriousness, avoid this n95 like the plague!!! But i have had the n95( silver) for 6 months now and i am sure i will never get bord of it. I havnt had any problems with it what so ever, however after installing some applications the phone did kinda slow down, but hey thats what smart phones do!! i gotta admit though, compared to all my other phones, the battery life in this phone is the worst!! even though i turn of all the applications, i have to charge it nearly everyday. People do overestimate how large it really is, but try this, put the n95 next to another phone, like the k750i or something, its just large in each dimension by a tiny amount. Its the big screen that might make it look so large. And for all you narrow minded people, its big for a reason...it does alot!!!...well compared to most other phones. Rating: Reviewed by julie veerappan on 21/06/2008 I got my n95 3 months ago, within the the first 4 weeks the silver paint came off the keys 7,8&0 and it kept crashing. froze or completely died nothing except a blank screen. I had the keys replaced and software fixed and it was fine for a couple of weeks but now the paint is coming off the same keys again and the phone continues to crash. however when the phone does work it has some good features.the battery life is rubbish. This is the worse phone i have had and not very reliable. I will not be getting another nokia once my contract runs out. complete rubbish of a phone. There are lots of features about these new style phones. It is obvious that no phone (smart or otherwise) can do it all "THE BEST". So we must pick out the two or three most important features and focus on how well the phone we are looking at preforms or excels in those two or three areas. I have always been partial to Nokia (most of my phones have been Nokia since 1996). But one thing is for sure: I got two hours of talk time in the mid 1990's! For a phone of this level and sophistication to only get two or three hours of talk time in the year 2008 (over ten years later) is absolutely absurd!!! I don't care how many features this or any phone has........if I can't get at least five hours of talk time, I will immediately rule a purchase out for that device. How is it that Sony/Ericsson can get over nine hours of talk time out of their newer "G" series and the newest Xperia X1? Shame on Nokia for thinking that users would overlook battery life for fantastic features! I guess I could carry around two or three batteries. Perhaps Nokia could design a belt that would hold multiple batteries and the phone as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rating: Reviewed by Kiran Gill on 03/06/2008 I have the N95 Black - from Orange, i've had the phone for about a week now, and i must say im impressed so far. i use my phone all the time, im always texting and calling out or on facebook - checking email etc, and i must say im impressed. battery life, considering how much i use of the phone, for example the last tim ei charged it was around 48 hours ago, i have been using most features of th ephone non stop .. especially the video and camera!its only started beeping at me now, and even then it will last a while before it will runn out completely. i love the huge screen, its crashed once on my but i was pressing buttons too fast and i had too many apps open. i love the back of the phone, because before on other phones wen the phones are shiny on the back i hate them because u get finger marks, on this its like rubber like material and it always looks brand new, uc an see any marks. i love the memory, easy to use and camera and video camera is amazing. down side to key pad is if u got long nails its harder to type but i still never get a character wrong, so im still impressed!!!! ive had some crapphones in my time, this one is lookin good at the moment.i would reccommend it to anyone... and im just a student! I mainly wanted a good camera and music player and they are both awesome on this phone.I was impressed with picture quality on the phone screen but when viewed on my p.c they are simply excellent.I can also use the web browser at home for free using my wireless router.I've been a mobile user for around 10 years and this is my favourite so far. A friend has one also, and has had to have the handset replaced after experiencing some of the problems other people have mentioned (handset freezing, microphone not working). I was caught out a couple of times by the battery, but after changing a few settings on the phone, and making sure some of the applications weren't auto starting (as on a computer) I now have a battery that will last a couple of days with normal use, or a bit less if I'm watching video etc. My only gripe is the organiser features...or lack of them. Though I'm assured I can download some software that will do the job. It's not the smallest of phones, but still a very good phone,and I'm more than happy with it. BTW, my friend who had been having probs got his handset replaced and has had no further problems. I purchased my n95 in March 2008 and have NO crashing problems at all. It is very stable. Photo quality improved once we realized there was a hardly noticable plastic layer protecting the lense. With this later still on the phone it was causing the Flash to bleed across the lense taking horrible photos. ha! Once this protective layer was peeled off the photos were fantastic. Plus points - loud ringer tone (don't need to have it on the highest volume setting like most other phones), great sound quality - enhanced with the 2 side speakers, texting - great, maps - great, handy memory card slot and comes with a memory card, great camera and wide range camera settings, also nice to have a camera lens cover for protection, you can have lots of different menus open at the same time, need I say more! However - (and it's a huge HOWEVER) the battery life is pants. The phone is free on a £30 tarif with 3 network. I have brought a car charger and holder for the car and the sat nav works spot on, locking a position within 30 seconds. For a small fee you get voice navigation which for occasional use I dont mind paying for. AV out is brill, being able to see your photo's and video's on the TV. The only problem is the software can be a bit slow and it froze once. Recomend this phone to anyone. Read much about all the N95 problems, but wanted something that would work with my Outlook and at least equal the K800i for photo qualities. I know 3 x N95 owner who have all love there N95's but had various freezing problems, but after one of them traded up to the N95 8GB and showed me the differance first hand, I took the plunge myself. 1 week later I am please to report everything works fine. While the sat nav's no Tom Tom its still very useful and to have say to everything on a phone is brilliant! The extra memory seems to work wonders speeding things up just fine and so long as you don't rush it excessively don't think many people will ever find much wrong with it. I have had many of the best phones available and at the time of writing this is the very best! The main review describes the features so I wont go into them all again. It has worked quickly and reliably since I have had it, yes it is quite big, and yes due to extensive use of the features I do drain the battery down quite quickly....but try to put this into perspective, a Ferrari burns up petrol quicker than a Nissan Micra. I have listened to the mp3 player on the phone and compared it to my Ipod touch and counld not believe how much better the Nokia is, in fact as an mp3 player for sound quality alone it is the best i have heard. The interface, though not as good as apple's is solid and easy to use. The wi-fi is a bit problematic and the internet use is certainly not a patch on the ipod touch through wi-fi, but due to the 3.5g connection mobile internet is far faster than the crawl you would have to suffer if you got an iphone. The screen is great, the build quality great, call quality great, memory great...and not really much that can be improved on to any great degree. Once the sat nav finds itself it works good, though there is an extra subscription to pay if you want navigation. If having a 120g phone is ok to fit in your pocket then you wont find better. I have had many mobile phones. Some of these include the Samsung U600, Sony Erricson K510i and LG U8120. This Nokia N95 8GB is the best phone I have ever had. I have seen a lot of good phones as well but this is by far the best. It has everything. The only point which is debatable is the battery life. With NORMAL use it can easily last 2 days. With PROLONGED, EXCESSIVE use it will still last a day. It has GPS, a 5MP camera, N-Gage games, Internet and many more applications so you would expect the battery life to be short but it really does soo much with the battery life that it has. I think 2 days is reasonably for such a groundbreaking device. I actually bought mine on contract from dialaphone.co.uk. I live in the UK. I bought mine on an 18 month contract with vodafone in which internet and landline mins were free and I also got an apple ipod touch with it. This phone can be compared to the iphone, Sony Erricson W960i and the LG Viewty. I believe it's only real competition is the iphone. I wanted to buy the Iphone at first but it was far too expensive and had a shocking camera. The Ipod touch came free with my contract for the N95 8GB so everything worked out since the Ipod touch has everything the Iphone has except a phone and a camera. The N95 8GB is the best phone ever made. Better than the Iphone, Sony Erricson W960i and the LG Viewty. It is big but so are the other smartphones which can be compared to this. It has a better battery life than its main competitors and has many more functions. I have had it for a while now and I still haven't found everything. Truly incredible, groundbreaking device. It is expensive enough not to do what you want with your phone. 3rd The battery life is too short (3hrs with use of GPS) 4th N95 is one of the most expensive navigator due to the extra cost of Nokia gprs-umts connection. 5th no soft keys 6th if you install more apps it will slowdown,and crashes will be upto date. 7th Office apps are light version = read only and PDF won't be seen correctly on the screen. you've to buy extra at more expence the full version. There are even more little problems, I'm disapointed 'cos I expected more for the price. The intern accelerometer is not used what a pity, nokia should take a look a IPhone. My niggles are all quite petty but they do irritate on a daily basis - the photo button is RIGHT next to a big "browse your images" button - how many times have I so far lost those special moments by hitting this stupid key by mistake...ridiculous placement. Also when texting the "c" (clear) button is so close to the red cancel button that you frequently end up back home in the middle of texting. It so infuriating! Is so slow overall as it seems too clever for its own good.Camera particularly slow. Good points - using any headphones is fab - and getting div-x plug in is good although phone too slow to play stuff properly (full movies etc) . Battery life not THAT bad although i had to fork out £20 for another charger to have at work as once battery starts going it pretty soonish goes dead. First week i had it the microphone went and people couldnt hear me. 2 months after having my second one, it crashed and the screen froze, and even wen i took the battery out the back, the screen was still showing the screen being frozen. SO I HAVE JUST TODAY PHONES UP O2 TO SEND BACK MY THIRD N95, AND REPLACE IT WITH ETHE SONY K850i. SO IM HOPING THTS BETTER. IF NOT ILL GET THE LG VIEWITY. The nokia is ok, if u do things very slowly, but if u wanna get things done on it. Its freezes alot, like if your listening to music and texting someone and then someone phones you, when u hang up the phone freezes and u have to take the battery out, and reboot it. GPS, 5mp Carl Zeiss camera, awesome near tv quality video (tried and tested) which can actually be streamed directly via your tv with the av cables included. With the option to view all of your videos and pictures in 16:9 widescreen via the feathertouch media centre controls this phone has the Apple Iphone licked well into touch....especially when i recently discovered that this handset also includes and 'iphone' style accelerometer motion sensor, which once unlocked means you can flick view all your photos, emails, switch bwteen portrait and landscape views by a flick of the wrist and to top it all you can use it as a bluetooth controller for your nintendo Wii.... its serious fun, believe me. regards jim Rating: Reviewed by Spangle on 02/04/2008 nothing but problems with this phone, yes it might do everything you want but, soon as i got this phone callers could not hear me even though i could here them, the 9 button would not work sometimes. Very user unfriendly, compared to the sony K800 this is like going back 5 years, unlike the sony it assumes you want to send texts to a number rather than a name from your address book (I for one have difficulty remembering everyones mobile number), when you press a shortcut you can see the screen going through each step to get there soooo slow, the excellent camera is rendered useless because it takes about 15 seconds to get going when you switch it on so the moment has usually passed. Battery life is abysmal, back to charging every night (it was twice a week with sony) and even then it runs out with heavy use. Having vowed that I would never stray from Nokia again when I got my sony now that I have come back they seem to have completely lost their edge, it's not acceptable to test such a flawed product at consumers expense, i'm just glad they dont make pacemakers. The saleswoman said I would get the 8 gig as the original silver N95 had been stopped by Orange due to bugs etc.. The package arrived and it was a silver model with an 8gig memory stick!! Initially I wasnt happy. I have a habit of thoroughly testing my phones due to the huge amount of bugs inherent in the models overloaded with features nowadays! I decided to stick with the (old) model and see how it went. The phone is slow, but that is to be expected due to the huge amount of functionality. Patience is a virtue! Camera is amazing, better than my k800i. Wireless works really well and I sync all my emails, internet surfing etc.. on my home wireless network. Had no issies with this at all. GPS can take a while to find satellites. But I expect the reciever to be slightly substandard compared to a dedicated Tom Tom (after all, they have had to fit a decent quality reciever into a feature rich phone!). Again patience is a virtue.. just leave the unit stationary for a fair few minutes and it will find enough satellites. After that, I was able to place it deep within my car on charge where it still retained the signal. Recommend Garmin software which contains all the maps. Do not use the phone GPS, its naff and pricey on the internet! Bluetooth seems more efficient that I've experienced in the past. I have not experienced (yet) any of the in call issues (high pitch whining & mic no working. Perhaps the later models have had this issue fixed. I did find that the signal can drop off at times, perhaps this is due to switching between wireless, gps, etc.. Had a few lockups but nothing major. I fully recommend upgrading the firmware, it seems much ,more efficient now. I havent even had major battery issues considering surfing all day using wireless etc.. recommend using in car charger for gps tho! All in all, certainly does the job on all fronts and functional to a high standard considering all the features. Two days after i had it back it went again not impressed would not reccomend Rating: Reviewed by al on 19/03/2008 as a do everything phone its great and the picture quality is outstanding. gps sign-up to get the whole of uk mapping is well priced considering but if you reset the phone remember not to have thrown away/lost the sign up codes as i have done LOL. reception and voice quality are good (do any phones deliver bad quality these days?). using it as a broadband modem on 3G drains the battery very quickly so dont plan for more than 100 minutes of web surfing if you want to make a call afterwards! battery and software lockups are two sticking points as is the occasional switching off of the backlight which only started happening after a firmware download/upgrade of the operating system. all in all i recommend the phone, its easy to get along with and you dont have to use every function on it to get your money's worth (especially if its free on a contract!). the fm radio saves me packing even more sony equipment into my bag. the phone is not a small or lightweight phone but to me that's not an issue. i use the diary function on it which replaces the psion organiser i used to use for the day to day scheduling and reminders of birthdays/anniversaries etc. would i buy another one is the pertinent question. the answer is yes, especially if i could get an extended battery for it. It is my second N95 as the first one broke within a few days. It has frozen 3 times in the last couple of weeks, the volume down/zoom in button on the side is broken and the slide function is showing signs of wear and tear. The most frustrating thing though is that it seems impossible to use many applications simultaneously - for example, when I try to play the radio in the background and open up a game, there is a serious drop in the sound quality, so much so that radio can only be heard in one earphone. Sound quality during calls is also poor. On the plus side, the camera is excellent, and it is very easy to transfer files from your computer onto the N95. The screen is really clear and the music player is excellent. Honest... I was really pleased to hear that they had updated it along with adding in an 8GB card - until I saw the phone itself. At least the original N95 was attractive to look at! I think the overall problem with the N95 is that the software has great potential, but the hardware just isn't strong enough to carry it off. Im on it now on the internet. Would say i use to have a fair few crashes. But now its stopped. It didnt come with msn. So had to download it. One major problem after having it a year, is the screen back light stops working everyonce in a while. But i fink that is my fault for using it alot. I do find that on t-mobile the internet is really slow. Does anyone know how to change this? And also i cant watch videos on youtube. So if anyone could help on that, would be happy! Updated software three weeks ago and runs even better. Have loaded Fring (free) so have Skype on tap too, jolly useful. Also, have you guys loaded Moving Ball and Activity Monitor (both free) on it? I never knew how much walking I did in a day! Diary is good too bearing in mind it has a small screen; it synchs with Outlook etc beautifully, I use bluetooth for this. Camera excellent, I upload all piccys to Flickr which works great. Only thing is don't forget to disconnect WiFi if you don't need it else the battery goes fizz in no time flat. Am looking forward to upgrading in a year to what has to be an even better generation of this superb 'phone - eat your heart out iPhone !! I ordered the phone via 3 on a 18mth contract however, in less than 1 month, I have had the phone exchanged and I am now awaiting delivery of a 3rd handset. The last one was charging and then the screen went blank. It couldn't even turn off. Removed battery and SIM many times. Sent it for repair but told it can't be repaired (or they can't be bothered). Generally freezes a lot- my hubby has one too and swears blind that he has no problems but I think he's just trying to show off! if the 3rd one plays up, I will be looking at alternative handsets- not worth the hassal and inconvenience. But I sure am glad I have insurance for it, this phone was not ready for release in my eyes. For a start the very first ones only have a maxixmum of 2 gig, not 4 or 8. The build quality is appalling, the speaker has failed 3 times on me. The battery life is woeful, I'm lucky if I get 24 hours out of it, I have to take my charger everywhere. The software is so slow that it becomes extremely frustrating to use. The camera takes so long to load up, that by the time its ready to use, the photo of continental drift you were after has moved on. The GPS isn't worth having, the software to get sat nav is about £80, and it picks up suck weak signals, that its really a waste of time. Want Satnav? Buy a tomtom or something. I had a 6680 a couple of years ago, swore never to get another Nokia, got a SE K800i which was great, but the N95 had soooo many features that I couldn't resist. I wish I had!! Orange have told me they'll offer a different handset if It breaks again (which it has). I'm going to get a K850i. The battery lasted me for 3 days with a lot of use so anyone who is moaning about battery life obviously didnt charge it probably first time and now its your own fault you can only get a days use out of it. I put a nice 8gb memory card in it and now its just as good as the N95 8gb but better cos I can remove the memory card for other ones whereas the official 8gb model you cant. I've rated this 1 - Poor but it's just not that good. I'm tied into a 18 month contract with Orange and am awaiting my 7th replacement handset in as many months! You name the fault, I've had it - sound going, front page crashing, phone automatically switching off, internet failing to connect (twice), now the phone doesn't ring when you receive a text message! It promises the world but delivers pretty little. Don't even think about trying to get on any decent high graphic websites on its internet - there's an error message you'll receive each time "Out of memory, please close down applications" - think I've seen that 30 times a day for the past 6 months! In a nutshell - the N95 looks and teases you with fantastic "ferrari-like-features" but actually it's got a 1.2 litre engine that would barely power a skoda (that's a metaphore btw). I repeat, don't get this phone! I'm counting the days until November when the contract expires and I'm free of the worst mobile ever created!! This phone is high spec and the user should be someone who can actually appreciate the phone for what it is. Your average customer will probably notice the negative points. With a minor bit of tweaking and a firmware upgrade this phone is very reliable. Being a smart phone also has the benefit of allowing you to use be able to use applications that can do pretty much anything, I even use mine to control stereos and TV's!! This phone is not for your everyday user, it needs a poweruser to get the full benefit from it. Mine makes a horrible screaching while charging and using it with a bluetooth handsfree kit. This stops when I pull out the charge lead. It disconnects from the bluetooth handsfree kit after 20 minutes talking and needs switched off and back on to remake the connection. All I can say is wow- this phone is fantastic, and maybe I charged it up well but its lasted 3 days without needing to be charged, I charged it 20 hours before hand. In that time I have been onto the internet several times, mail, ebay, yahoo, gps... all working fine, still getting to grips with it all though- it does so much! I have also made calls, recieved calls, sent and received texts, taken and sent photos, and still the battery is fine. Its 3 days later. I do advise getting a case for the phone, I have heard they are ££££ to replace and many contracts dont insure them so protect it! The only down point I have is the amount this phone actually does- but thats not really a bad point is it?! it could also get stolen as they are so pricy so this could be another down point, but just be sensible and dont leave it lyeing on the bus seat next to you! There is alot to learn about this phone, I originally was put off by the 18 month contract, but theres enough there to keep me learning and playing around for the full 18 months!! If you want a phone that does it all and looks really cool, if you can, get this phone. Its beter then the ipone in my mind as it has gps and it has a 5meg pixel camera which outshines the iphones 2meg. But if your just after the basic call, text and photo, get something cheaper, or your paying for the functions you arent using. The GPS is shockingly bad, it tokk over 10 mins to lock on yesterday, I just used my pocket A-Z instead. The Nokia software for the PC is simply awful, they should just let us tranfers files as you would from a PC to a hard drive and then arrange them as we want. I got both Sim-Free which makes a major difference as there is no operator software so does not crash and battery life is around 3 days with minimum use. Yes it has it's down side like freezing every now and then but come on it takes a minute to switch off and on again. The camera is great and so is the volume on the speakers, it looks fantastic and the screen is the best i have ever seen, one of the best things i think is the voice commands this phone takes it to the next level. It is prone to crashes but this isnt a major issue, what is a issue is the appauling battery life. I lasts about the same as a regular laptop if your using the wi-fi (a few hours). Over the first few days there were a few things I couldn't get to work or seemed to be at fault, but a check on N95 web forums soon sorted them out. Best bits : - looks great....cool & sophisticated - 8gb storage....I repeat 8gb - menu's very easy to use & customise - camera & video is excellent with lots of features - video player is fantastic quality (Podcasts & pre-installed Spiderman are top quality) - browser is as good as a PC - WiFi connection is easy to use and saves money on download costs - Nokia maps (SatNav) is good but doesn't 'find' you all the time - battery life...loads better than I expected (given the reviews on here) To balance it out, things not wonderful : - music player isn't great - can't add any emotes to messages (without downloading new ones) - all the games are demos Overall, very happy with my phone and reckon it will keep me busy with new function & applications (Nokia N-Gage coming soon)for a long while. Looks great on paper but none of it works!GPS=absolutely useless. Double slide design = nice idea, shame the phone takes over 5 seconds for the aspect to adjust. Carl Zeiss optics = worse than my k800i. Button layout is appaling - why place the C button next to the end call button - when i want to delete text i end up closing the whole thing down, and having to type the text again!! The phone broke twice in 4 months, which meant i had to send it off twice for repair, during which i was phoneless. Battery life is appaling - get used to charging this every day if you want to use the features. Oh, and if you get the sat nav working (patience is a virtue) get used to adding roughly £30 on top of your monthly bill. Your GPRS will be running constantly, which means during a 5 hour drive you're racking up a hefty sum in data charges. I sold the piece of junk and got a SE K850i. Sure it doesn't have half the features of the N95, but it actually works. N95 = the skoda of phones. In fact that isn't completely correct, skoda got their act together and are producing quality motors. If only VW would come along and give the pathetic excuse of a phone manufacturer a similar helping hand. Avoid like brussel sprouts. The phone itself is amazing!!! the battery life lasts longer than i had expected and can easily go 4days without charge - with full use of media player and also making and sending calls and texts. The GPS maps are clear and the route guidance software is similar to that of route master etc. The camera is fantastic and with the dual slide function, it makes the phone an mp3 player aswell (especially with the 8gb built in memory). The only thing I would say about it is the fact that the matt casing on the back is easily marked and the silver front effect gets scratched if you have keys/money in the same pocket. And the sat nav is very poor quality compared to TomTOm etc. Its quite fiddly but once you downloaded nokia maps on ur pc online you can transfer them to your phone and you will NOT have to pay each time u use your sat nav. Please dont buy this phone if you want it fot this feature however it is a useful toy and for free it can pinpoint nearest locations (eg banks/petrol etc). The call quality is poor (high pitch squeak). Still thought it is a smart phone and you grow to like its looks especially the 2 way slider. Nice big screen, amazing camera, nice sound quality with both phone calls and music, but it crashes every day, and the battery life as rubbish, i have to charge the thing at leaste twice a day. I really wouldn't recommend it. If the danger who make the sidekick phones pull there finger out and make a sidekick with a dex more features i'll go back to them. I will never buy another nokia. Rating: Reviewed by Chris on 12/12/2007 I've had this phone for nealry a year now and apart from the niggle about the battery life and having to permanently make sure that no applications are running in the back ground to deplete battery life this phone is superb. The size factor - well think what features it has and you forgive it for being slightly large. GPS I've never had a problem with it either living out in the sticks or in central london. Pictures are good - just as good as the k750i I used to have and video quality is perfect for a top of the range mobile phone. Transfering music is a doddle and playback once on the phone is just as good as any other generic mp3 player. All in all when you think of everything wrapped up in one mobile phone - camera, video, gps, internet wi-fi connection you can't go wrong. I would strongly agree to anyone once purchasing phone to make sure they have the latest software upgrade though to avoid any bugs/problems if they have one of the earlier models. I just felt like a change, although the Sony’s had been very reliable and robust the features and design hadn’t changed drastically and I didn’t want to be tied down for another 18months with one (it felt like I’d had the same phone for years and years). I went for this Nokia because of the Nokia brand name and the fairly good reviews other owners had left. I liked the design and high spec that topped most other phones on the market at the minute. This is what I’ve found; · Lots & lots of features, some of which I’ll probably never use. · Some similarities between the Nokia and the Sony set-up. · Good quality Pictures (as good as K810i/K850i maybe better). Doesn’t have Cyber-shot so if you were keen on this you’ll miss it · Amazing video recording (miles and miles better than K810i and latest K850i) ~ big advantage · Some slight freezing but nothing more than Sony or any other hand set I’ve had so far. · Software for computer and transfers to and from computer very easy to use, more user friendly than Sony and more features on software compared with Sony. · I find the main navigation keys on front panel too closely knitted together, I keep hitting the wrong key, which becomes very annoying ~ losing some of those brownie points. · Battery life is average, its totally dependant on how much your using your phone of course but I’m charging every other day, Sony was a little better but not by a lot. · A little bulky on the pockets but you can’t have it all. In all it’s a good phone, I believe I have a second phase handset with more internal RAM built in. The first phase of handsets had half as much RAM, which was causing a lot of problems with crashing and freezing. Touchwood I wont be having any of those issues. People are complaining of the battery life but for such a technologically advanced phone what do you expect, this phone is like a mini notebook! Stop the whingeing!!!! It looks good, has bags of features, very good quality camera and fantastic video recording for a camera phone. Can’t deliver a verdict on reliability, its too early to tell but nothing untoward so far, however, the N-Series phones do have a nasty reputation but maybe the software and hardware balance has finally been resolved. I have watched tv on mine, navigated to places, listened to music via car radio, made calls, taken amazing pics. The one thing that would add to its perfectness would be a touch sensitive screen like the two phones mentioned above. The SE was so reliable with not one glitch in all that time, so I waited and researched the market before upgrading. I tried the Iphone, but really wanted a decent camera with a flash. (And the ability to 'cut and paste'!) However the N95 was frustrating to use, I tolerated the slowness, but, every time I closed the slider it tried connecting to the internet or some other random application in the phone! The one thing that really annoyed me, considering it should have done it really well, was the poor in call quality. The N95 is packed with loads of features, but after a week I sent it back. Phone manufacturers really should test their products more thoroughly. It would seem that some individuals get a good N95 and others a faulty one. Now I'm back to using my trusted W810i, and waiting for the W960I... The N95 is not an Iphone beater in my opinion, my friends have yet to complain about theres. Maybe Nokia will sort their quality control out on this model. Eventually got a lend of a charger,plugged it the fone and left it. After about 5 hours went to check it,it was still charging but had gotten extremely hot,I unplugged it in case,it was that hot. My network provider is Orange and I upgraded my handset just over a month ago to the Nokia N95, I ended up paying £150 to end my Contract and £89.99 to upgrade the handset, Totalling £239.99 which I thought in the long run was better then paying about £450 sim free. Phone seemed to work ok for the first 3 weeks then the phone kept locking up. Reading the nokia manual it tells you never to remove the battery without turning the handset off first. Well I am sorry to say that when the handset locks and want release what else are you supposed to do?? By now I was totaly livid. I phoned Orange Customer Services who diagnosed it as a fault and sent me a replacement. About 2 weeks in to this handset I was texting a friend when the screen went off and then came back on again. When I put the phone in standbye and then slid the slider up to send another text all that happened was the screen lit up and went of and continuously did it. I phone Orange customer services again and asked for a new handset altogether to be told that I need to send back three before I can change the handset. I am now on my 3rd handset which I have had for about 1 week. Lets see how it goes, if this phone starts playing up Orange will be receiving another phone call with me requesting a new handset altogether. What has happened to you Nokia why have your standards dropped so much?? this happend to the Nokia 6600 which was a great handset until it was Deleted about a year after launch. This is by far a superior unit in terms of camera quality and raneg of features. The phone has bomb proof firmware however the downer initially was the poor battery life. Within a few days of receiving the phone I searched website forums for tips on preserving and extending battery life and there are many settings the user may alter in order to achieve this. This includes switching from 3G to GSM mode, dropping the lights on the screen (they never need to be on full whack as clarity is sharp) and get a memory card so you can take full advantage of the music and video player! The 8GB Nokia is out HOWEVER this lack the (IMPORTANT!!) protective sliding cover for the Carl Zeiss lens and any expansive memory card slot. Funny as you can get 8GB cards from the web dirt cheap anyway! Good phone, excellent sound quality and reception. BUY A CASE AND SCREEN PROTECTOR first. The phone is well made, however do beware of the cheaper knock offs on ebay - rebadged Chinese made phones which have the audacity to be marketed as faux N95 phones!! Bluetooth, IrDA, USB, WiFi - it really is the business..... And its not common as muck! Rating: Reviewed by Nick L on 10/11/2007 Took delivery of my shiny new N95 yesterday having done some research -- I was well aware of the concerns expressed by many about its miserable battery life and tendency to freeze. Confident that many of these could be put down to having too many applications open at once, I signed up. Incidentally, a great deal with O2. And.....sure enough the phone has been nothing but trouble since it arrived. For a start, it really does feel pretty flimsy, the keys and thin plastic battery cover in particular. Then, there are the constant freezes even when its being asked to do nothing more ambitious than send a text. All you can do in such a situation when the phone won't even switch off is remove the battery and start again. So, sorry Nokia but this one is going back in the box. I'm not sure whether it's just a dud but, if so, there seem to be a lot of dud N95s around. My theory, based on nothing in particular, is that Nokia rushed out an all-singing all-dancing iPhone beater but without having the necessary software support. I am really disapointed, I am now just about to exchange this one ofr a 3rd one and if I have any problems with it I will be listing it on Ebay and buying a simpler phone that makes & receives phone calls. If you have the time to keep talking to your service provider on a weekly basis or to keep returning your N95 to the shop then this phones for you. Intuitive system changes can catch you out (like WHEN does it auto-answer and WHEN doesn't it?). It knows which way up it is, whether it is near your face and whether it is in a case with magnetic catch - and it alters it's behaviour accordingly... Killer comment? The only 'downside' (if you can call it that )is the battery life, However to prolong the batery life I tend to turn off the wifi scan, until I realy need it. Apart from the ease of use, its a phone that (in my opinion) will take a lot to beat. Its very easy to use, the built in camera has made my existing camera redundant, and having installed 'Route 66' sat nav software on makes this phone an ideal Sat Nav, as it makes the most of the built in GPS system. No doubt there will be soon a phone that will claim to be 'better' than this, but I would stick with N95 without any question There have been some reports of the N95 freezing, or misbehaving, on the advice from Nokia, you shouldnt put a memory card in of more than 2GB, as this can create such problems. The software installed on this phone is so easy to use, and there is also a way of making internet phonecalls via the Skype network.I think that once you have used this phone for a while,you will not look back. you will realise just what a useful phone this is.Well done Nokia!!! I have had it for almost 3 weeks and it hasnt crashed at all yet and the battery can last up to 2 day if you make sure all aplications are closed. You can watch TV for just £3 a month and the camera is fantastic. Everyone comments on how good the camera is. It is very easy to text with and I am very happy that I have got it for another 12 months. Vodafone works out to be the best deal all around and if you are thinking of getting a new phone I definatly think you should get this one because it truely is fab! Its now just 7 days old. Its my first nokia phone, I have always been Sony Ericsson user. Going for N95 was for only one reason, being the latest in market and included WLAN connectivity. GPS works good, but a nned to pay for maps ;( Otherwise a great phone but also carries few bugs. Phone freezes and hangs (as do most of the computers do!). The phone suddenly goes black screen and then after 30-40 seconds turns white with Nokia written and slowly one by one all the display icons starts appearing. Looks as though you are using a desktop pc (ones like in 1980's) with all such things happening. Internet connectivity is sometimes good but rest of times poor, takes ages to load a wap page even while standing in front of the wireless router! Photograps are goos, as not a Nokia feature but the best lense developers! Battery needs to be charged everyday, not for the fact Cambridge, UK is poor for mobile signals but other Nokia reasons. After a while I started getting used to it and managed to customise the phone and its shortcuts to what I had with my previous phone. It was dead easy to synchronise and copy all my stuff over. Its quite weighty and bulky but non the less very nice. camera is excellent. But....... I have always stuck to Nokia as they are basically the best. This phone is a bit too much and gets me too frustrated. The BIGGEST headache....... The Battery. Just with normal usage it needs charging basically all the time. I can't be in the car all the time and I can't just leave it somewhere to charge up. I need my phone on my person from morning til night. Then I charge it overnight. NOT THIS PHONE. Its awful for this reason only. For the first time I am going to go NON-NOKIA because if this is the best nokia then I will have to look elsewhere. Rating: Reviewed by Vincent Tan on 17/10/2007 I just bought the N95 about 3 weeks ago. I have upgraded to the latest firmware V12.0.014 and also the PC suite 6.84.10.3 without any problems. This is the 3rd Symbian based phone that I have used; the 1st being the 9210i communicator and 2nd was Nokia 6600. I love this N95 as it is user friendly and the synchronisation via bluetooth/USB cable is superb with my notebook and desktop running on Windows XP and Vista OS respectively. I have not experienced any crashes at all (touch wood), unlike my earlier 9210i and 6600. All the features such as WLan, 3G and 3.5G work very well. The GPS is reasonably good and detects the satellites within 1 - 2 minutes, which is better than my old PDA HP6515 (which I need to synchronise the satellites position 1st for faster detection). The music/song on N95 sounds much better than my Sony Ericsson W850i & W810i. The pictures were great and better than I would expect from a mobile phone. My grouses are: 1] the battery only last a day; 2] sometimes the icon is slow to appear, and 3] have to pay for voice activated navigation. Mine has been going strong for 2 days now and its only half battery. I found the interface a little confusing but after consulting the manual it is actually very easy to use with some good shortcut keys. The software package is good with some nice features for photo's video's and music. The camera at 5.0 megapixels does look a little dark but with some tweaking I found it was taking very clear pictures up to about half zoom then the quality went down the further you zoomed out. I found the weight and bulk of this phone no problem at all, it doesnt seem to weigh much more than my previous phone a Sony Ericsson 810i. I would rate this phone to anyone. The GPS is handy, the wifi is excellent as is the camera and it's a pretty tidy looking 'phone, and despite its size it is surprisingly light, too. N need for your digital camera anymore as the N95 is as good as I've seen and the hands free kit in your car will be no longer required as the two way speaker system on the phone is brill. The downside however is that they are not robust at all. Mine fell recently and the slider broke away very easily. The only conection between the slider and the main body is two very thin ribbon cables and they tore. O2 will not replace the phone and Nokia gave me the same reply. By all means, get a N95 but make sure you get a strap for it! Rating: Reviewed by Val on 02/10/2007 My husband's latest phone after the dinky-but-daft 6111. It's excellent (so far). He works as a roofer and the 5mp camera is perfect for taking pictures of work that needs to be done and showing to customers who previously would have had to take his word for it if they couldn't face going up a ladder. It's on contract with T-Mobile and took some negotiating for him to have it on his price-plan. This didn't include the extra memory card which is essential given the photo & video quality. The memory cards are relatively inexpensive from sites such as eBay - around £8 for 1GB which holds plenty of space for music, photos and video for the average user. The data cable came with it and is also compatible with my regular digital camera. Best to go to the website for PC Suite as the disc provided was out of date. I'd recommend people using the phone working outdoors to get a cover for it. The large screen, keypad and slider mechanism will sustain damage if exposed to extreme heat, cold and dusty environments. It seems a sturdy phone nevertheless. Note for parents of greedy kids: It's a grown-up phone. Rating: Reviewed by Sani on 01/10/2007 I`ve nhad this phone for 4 months now. Not once did it crash or rebooted on its own. Very stable. All features work like described. GPS gets a regular signal, but like you read, it is not as good as TomTom per say. You have to be outdoors or you have to put N95 near your windshield if you want to use it in a car. Camera is good, I can`t say more than that. 5 mp sounds impressive, but it is not so at all. Autofocus takes its sweet time to lock on the picture, so if you need to take a picture of something moving fast, forget it. Another thing I noticed is that pictures are quite dark, and this problem still remained after I increased exposure level. Anyways, a Samsung 3Mp camera will leave this one far behind when it comes to quality of pictures. The worst thing about the phone is the battery. I talk for 30-45 minutes each day. I very rarely use the camera (have SLR when need good pics taken) and very rarely play the music. Still, battery needs to be charged every second day and thet`s if you`re lucky. Most of them need to be charged each day. Now, Nokia has put BL-6F battery in its new N95 8 GB, which has 1200 am, so it should last a bit longer, but this battery will not fit into your original N-95, unless you want to put some chinease made crystal case, which supposedly alows enough place for the new battery. This case is really quite ugly. One more thing that I find a minus on N95 is the fact that you cannot edit any word files (Word, Excel). You can put them on your phone and view them, but if you need to edit something, forget it. I`m wondering what`s the point at all if you can`t edit your files and work with them. Another nice thing to have would have been a touch screen, but then again it would be pretty much useless if you cannot work on your files (word, excell etc). Overall, it is a good phone. I`ve never had a crash, sound quality is the BEST I`ve ever experienced in a cellphone, GPS can be of use. Maps are free of charge to download, voice nav needs to be paid for, but it is not worth the price. Good phone. Oh and the upgrade cost me £200 back in April. What a load of rubbish. I've had an N70 for 18 months and now an N95 and i have never had a crash. Ever. Just close the applications when you've finished! You wouldn't use your pc with music on, a film on, writing a letter, checking your e-mail and on MSN, downloading photos and video all at the same time, so don't try to do the same on your phone. BATTERY: Well i got my phone and didnt charge it straight away, just let it go flat like reviews had advised, which was only hovering on one bar out of 7 bars of battery, yet even then the one bar lasted way over 5 hours cos i turned it on a 5pm, and it was still on at 10.30pm. and believe me it wasn't like i wasn't using it either, i was on it constantly trying out the new stuff and calling friends on it, so frankly i was more than a bit relieved! then when it finally did die on me i charged it overnight, and its lasted me a whole day and well in to the night now with me texting on it all day and showing people the cool stuff on it, and its still got full battery, all seven bars, so by the rate of the battery going down so far (or not going down in this case) id have to say its no way near what everybodys saying on thes reviews. Its lasting like any other phone. i know there are so many reviews about the battery that are off putting.....but trust me! this babys got some staying power ! Overall i very much love the phone, id have to say it does so much that i prob wont even use half of it! and exploring it take a while, im literally finding out something new about it every time i pick it up. the designs a bit chunky, but its still compact, im just used to my sleeker sexier LG Chocolate, but its still a great design and its got some amazing functions! If the phone is branded use the nss hack to change the product code to euro1 0536062 and update using the nokia firmware updator - this also puts back any features certain operators in the UK have chosen to remove (but note this does not remove any simlock) The phone is then supurb. Sat nav is useless takes forever to get a signal and then crashes after 20mins. Battery life is useless - dont bother using the sat nav without an in car charger. Crashes all the time, button layout is awful. Phone is sluggish and takes about 5 secs to open a new message. My SE k800i was a far better phone that this, why shell out £££ for features if they don't work?Might aswell buy a car without an engine...... It has been sent back once already, and repaired (allegedly) The battery is lucky if it actually lasts for a day. The call audio is awful, both for me and the other person, who sometimes can't hear me at all. The only good bit is the camera, but I have gone back to my Sony K800, as the N95 is just about guaranteed to be flat if you want to make a call! I rang Nokia and the guy that I spoke to (eventually!) was not particularly helpful or understanding of the problems,suggesting that I send it back for repair (again) and when I asked him if he had had anyone else complaining about battery life on N95's, he said "No". I also grow less impressed with 5mp photos - I'd settle for less mps, with a decent focus, repeat rate and perhaps optical zoom - am I asking too much? Guy Dubai - That's all true but, with the updated firmware, your Nokia N95 can get GPS signal, in under one hour! Ben - The N95 really isn't that big - you need bigger pockets! Seriously though, we could all justify the size if it had a 2.8 inch screen (as the N95 black will bring to the market) - a touch screen would've aced its operation, too. Josie - CallerID is most likely the fault of your network, not the N95 - I've read a lot of threads and, NOBODY shares your complaint. Julie - switch WLAN off - it's easy to do and, with the old style interface, could be done from the main screen. Damian - what's wrong with the earpiece? Mine wouldn't sit in my ear very snugly (I do have funny ears, tho) but, this was resolved with a pair Motorola S9s - no more 'unravelling the wires' ritual for me! Initially I thought that I had arrived at nervana with all the wonders of the N95 being available. The long and the short of it was that by the time I had transferred my contacts into the phone and downloaded my area maps the unit became a nightmare. Battery life was erratic. Function selection was slow. The GPS start up time was rediculously slow taking sometimes up to 7 minutes to acquire satellites and determine a position. Then came the problems of turning it on and off this was a complete hit and miss operationa. Basically a nice idea but a disasterous unit. Especially when I paid out over 250 Omani Riyals for it. I have now gone back to my old 9300i which is a godsend compared to the n95 and that locks up quite regularly. At lease one can reset it. I got an N95 and the Casmera has about 7 white spots that comeup on Frame. Like Faulty Pixels. Doesn't happen with front camera only back camera. Video is worse. Seven white spots appear along the top third of frame. Before I got the phone, I asked the Sales at Allphones if this phone was faulty would they exchange it? We even discussed how Nokia have 30 days ELF. Sales said no worries. Yeah Right! Tried to get Allphones to swap for new N95 as I only had this phone for day and a half and they said no! They want to send it away to have their Techs Asses it. This phone is suppose to have 30 day ELF Swap, but AllPhones don't honour it unless their Techs asses it. Chances are you end up getting a refurbished phone back or your own back with Scratchs etc. Vey dissappointed with Allphones. Other than that, Great Phone. Maps work well as does rest of phone. Internet browser is best I've seen on any phone and I've had them a ll. I guess I'll have to put up with Faulty Camera. I will never buy from ALLPHONES again. Now it decides when to work, suddenly switches itself off and on again or just freezes and looks as if the screen has gone. What more can I say? This phone does EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING! OK, the battery life is pretty appalling but when you consider what this beauty does, I'm not surprised. To preserve battery life, ensure bluetooth and wifi scanning are OFF unless you need them. You can also disable 3G if you don't use it and turn the phone off every night and charge it. I've taken some photos but not printed them but they do look stunning. The wifi works very well and the GPS maps are cool, although I think you have to subscribe to the 'service' after a week of ownership. One downside is that you cannot (at least on Orange) get Windows Live as they do not support it! That's a bit of a bummer but I have the HTC Touch and that does so I'm covered. I'd thoroughly recommend this handset - it looks classy, build quality is very good (although the sliding mechanism does sometimes seem a little loose) and it does what it says on the tin - BUY ONE, you won't regret it! I can only give it 4 stars as a) it doesn't have Windows Live support on Orange (thought that is Orange rather than Nokia) and the battery life lets it down a little. Otherwise, superb phone. I say this because if you choose this phone you will need to be constantly plugged into the mains to keep the battery charged!! On a fully charged battery I unplugged the phone at 7am. I sent two text messages in the morning and held a 3min phone call and by 4pm the battery was flat! I thought at first it may be a faulty battery so I tried a second battery and hey presto flat battery at 5pm - this time I had not sent any texts or made any calls. Needless to say I now returned my phone to orange. It is a real shame that the battery life is so poor as this really is an excellent phone - load rings, loud speaker volume, nice size and excellent features. As the battery life is so dire - it actually stops you being to use this handset as a viable mobile phone I have to rate this handset as poor! Got n95 5 days ago, web browsing is outstanding and super fast yes thats full websites not wap, no crashes as of yet, gps locked on within 1 min of activating it, you can use orb on this handset, that is you can connect to your pc by either wifi and stream media from your pc to the n95, you can also use the 3g network to connect to your pc from anywhere in the world. battery life is not the best, it will last a day or two if just used for short calls, battery is only 950 rating 1300 rated can be bought which will improve time, menus are much much faster then the n80 and is much more responsive, the n80 was the worst nokia i have owned, the n95 could be one of the best Rating: Reviewed by jimmey on 09/09/2007 outstanding fone u cn do anytrhin u want on it you name and its gt..... The second glitch came when trying to update its software and the phone would not connect...then the keyboard stopped responding. despite the advice to undertake a hard reset the phone remained unresponsive in those areas. Any rational person would heed this omen, but despite my concerns have requested a replacement. I will update my review by the end of next week if the replacement arrives on time. The fact that i'm on my fifth Nokia N95 because of constant freezing of the 1st phone and the ear speaker blew (best way of describing it)on the other three (the last one lasted 2 days!). I have spoken with several friends who have the same phone and a number reported sound problems. My current phone is working fine, final point, im not impressed when you take a picture then it goes through two menu's asking if you want to save it to your blog, after which it then tells you that it has saved the picture to the memory. The worst problem with it is the fact that on most of them, the earpiece kept breaking and the caller sounded tinny. Now on an N73 and once again having problems. The camera is very good and as an MP3/ Video player it is second to none. You do have to keep an eye on battery power so a £5 car charger is well worth the money. The one fault I have -not the handsets fault I know- is I had planned to use the phone for work & for private calls. This means using a works sim card on O2 and a pay as you go card on Orange. Because the handset is "too new", I am unable to unlock it. I now have to carry round 2 hansets! Having paid full price for the pay as you go handset, Orange wont allow me to have the unlock code for 3 months. Despite getting a 3G signal, I am being connected at a constant speed of 115.2 Kbps which divided by 8 equals about 14 KBps. My actual download speeds are around 5 KB per second. No-one can seem to resolve this issue. I have upgraded my Web and Walk with T Mobile to allow 3G speeds, yet still only get less than what is the old fashioned 56KBps, have been trying to download a Nokia fix all day, but the time it is taking is over 2 hours, and the website just times out....the fix is not available directly to the phone....also the light on the phone annoyingly keeps going out after 10 seconds, even though I have set it to stay on for 30 seconds, just make sure you get a demo in the store before you buy, because if they can get it to work then there's hope for my connection..........just off to request a website whilst I make a cup of tea before it appears. .... The SatNav is a bit dissappointing and connection to the satallites is hit and miss to say the least. The biggest let down is the battery life, the 215 stanby hours and 160 minutes talk time is simple wishfull thinking on Nokia's part. I make and recieve very few calls on mine, rarely use the camera or media players but it has to be charged every single day and switched off at night or it dosn't make it to the end of the day. But if youre like me and enjoy listening to music, and generally like to play with your phone on games Ect, it is not a good choice. After a few weeks of having this phone (which i bought for around £400) i sold it for about the same, and bought the sony erricson w810i for far less than the n95 at £119.99, the w810 has proved to be a far better phone (for me) than the n95. But like i said if you enjoy taking pictures and like to travel, or just like having up to date phones then this phone is exellent. I got this phone as soon as it came out on a 02 contract as a upgrade, the phone has been fantastic, there have been no crashes from the unit. The battery is fine, the people that have problems with it are not closing applications down and thus they are running in the background. The games or the sat nav of course will run the battery down fast(show me a dedicated sat nav that will run for two hours and will not run the battery down flat). Nokia have thrown the gauntlet down for a new war in phones,this phone is a major advance, there is a the need for a unit that has so many applications. Rating: Reviewed by ram on 24/08/2007 i dont like this phone because it is so slow Rating: Reviewed by Jake on 23/08/2007 i owned one of them for less then a week before it started playing up so i sent it back and got it changed with warranty and less than 2 weeks later it wouldnt turn on i was very dissapointed considering i only ever owned nokias and every other one was fantastic Rating: Reviewed by Bo_Peep on 23/08/2007 when i got my N95 i was really worried about it because of everyone saying it crashes. so far fone been great, and im nt surprised if it crashes every once in a while cos it is the most technically advanced fone yet! i also read that it was rather large and heavy. that is soooo not true! the fone is the same size as a motorola v3 and weighs less than a sony ericsson w300i. I think that because it is so hi-tech that you probably need to lookafter it a bit more carefully than other fones. Rating: Reviewed by Sherveen on 23/08/2007 My first contract phone in the UK and my long wait to get it is well worth it despite my shocking discovery when I got it in April that the battery does not last longer than a day on normal usage and 1.5 days if you are lucky.....But the features were not a let down at all....5 MP camera, GPS, excellent quality video, mp3 etc etc etc u name it....basically every thing possible you can imagine be made available on a phone to date is available on this....Got a 2GB card for this on ebay for 15 quid, and got a car charger, an additional battery is on the way for emergency, so basically except for the battery life, everything else is excellent on this phone....but as a former anti nokia phone fanatic, I have to turn back and say well done nokia! I am used to the battery life cycle now and I follow a routine of daily charge as soon as I wake up while I get ready for work or the daily chores, so its all good.....got it unlocked from the network to update the firmware and i ts doing really well ever since.....think it has done a bit better to the battery life as it stands a bit more than it used to before updating....if Nokia does give the navigation free, they would easily outbeat even the existing competition, but if you are good enough to know what needs to be done, you can install TomTom6 on the phone and get a bluetooth GPS receiver and use it....so Nokia, you know what needs to be done on the future version of this phone (i.e. improve battery life, introduce optical zoom on the camera and give free Satellite navigation) and you can consider me as a customer well in advance!! cheers! It's a horrible phone - feels nasty & very plasticky. 5 extra keystrokes to access the predictice text word options is stupid. Everything takes an age & the O/S just leaves me cold. The Sat nav is to say the least rubbish. the phone features whilst there are loads, are slow to react, you press a key to do something and sit and wait a few seconds, if this is because there is so much on the phone then take some things off. Feels clumsy, flimsy and cheap. I love Nokias but this has put me off. When I first had it I resisted the temptation to use it before charging it; I charged it for 24 hrs. I'm careful to fully discharge the battery before I recharge it (for example, I switch it into silent mode and leave a video playing.) I find the battery life's ok for a smartphone: I use the internet function daily, send about 20 texts a day, make about 6 phone calls a day, take about 10 photos a day and I regularly get 2 days from the battery. I took the phone on holiday and took more than 200 snaps at 5megapixel; I got back to the hotel and there was plenty of life still in the battery. You've just got to be careful how you charge and discharge it. The functions of the phone speak for themselves and I would have no hesitation in recommending the phone to anyone. It does need a firmware update - that is out - and maybe it is a little chunky but the feature list is wonderful. Will it be better than the iPhone? Don't know but it's a grat peice of kit in the meantime. Get a great line rental deal for it on Fone-Shaq but it's still not cheap. Caller cannot hear you - usually when there is another software running in background - always exit all software when finished with it. Crashes - as above especially when camera running but new software upgrade seem to have cured camera not shutting down when exiting. All in all not a faultless phone but been very reliable as long as all the above considered. Best bet yet for size and functionality, weight and battery life if you want to have an excellant HSDPA PDA, video and 5mp camera all in all. Certainly beats all pda/camera combinations I have owned so far (SE p990i, various windows smartphones, imat k-jam etc). Rating: Reviewed by Tony on 09/08/2007 OK after reading the reviews I still thought well give it a go .I have had it 4 weeks and have not had any of the faults mentioned .Sure battery life is an issue ,but charge once a day and no problem.The only problem that i have had is when going from gps back to local network i have to turn off sometimes to get the network back, phone still works thou .In all fairness this phone really does work well and the GPS is great 30 seconds to lock on works a treat .After 4 weeks I think I would have had some the faults other mention but have not.Overall for all it does it could not be smaller,weight at 120 grams really is not much.Brilliant Phone Rating: Reviewed by HT on 08/08/2007 Absolute shocker of a phone, always problems, crashing, shocking softwae issues, terrible GPS, and THE most irritating slide feature of any phone i have ever ever ever seen. I would say to get the most out of it you have to be a bit more technically knowledgable. The maps for the built in gps are free from the net if you search google for 'nokia n95 maps', You just need to connect your phone to a internet pc and click the country (you can do more than one at a time) you want and leave it to download and install on its own, this stop you having to use the network connection as well as the gps. I have also got TomTom, Live MSN Messenger which uses wi-fi so no extra costs and Smartmovie for watching hi-quality videos as well as 30 games. If you dont want to play about and persevere with this phone then you wont unlock its full potential. There's no point upgrading to this phone if you don't want to understand how to work it properly, however i do so 5stars. Upgrade people, its the way forward Rating: Reviewed by blu on 07/08/2007 Hi had this phone a day and my battary lasted 3 hours and the dam thing was dead.As so many other people with these phones i was gutted and slagged this phone down to the ground branding it a complete piece of junk i even went on a few forums i use and ripped the phone to bits without really giving it a chance.Firstly yes the battary life isnt great if you have the phone set up wrong.I done some homework on the phone and looked in a few forums and discovered that i was the problem not the n95 i had adjust my screen brightness to the max and had the wifi scanning on always this in return eats your battary life up big time.I simply turned the brightness down to medium and the wifi scanning to when needed and what a difference.My old phone a 6300 would last 2 to 3 days and im getting the same results from my n95 which is really starting to grow on me.Im not a great fan of the symbian phones as they do crash etc but if you treat the phone with a little respect and set t he thing up correctly its very smooth i havent had any crashes and upto now its been fantastic the camera is by far the best out their and the wifi feature is really good very fast no crashes and runs like a dream.The sound is also great and its a excellent music phone my point is do some homework on the phone and give it a chance and you will see its a great bit of kit in all well done nokia ;0) Rating: Reviewed by PRAMOD PATNE on 06-08-2007 I CAN GET WHATEVER I WANT FROM MY MOBILE Rating: Reviewed by bilal from pakistan on 06-08-2007 its is the best phone ever i had take n95 dont go for sonyericsson or samsaung its a computer Rating: Reviewed by darryl on 05-08-2007 i think this phone is extreamly easy to use has all the gadgets a guy could ever want and most importantly has wifi for FREE internet access plus i got mine on contract and swindled many more accessories out of them and £150 cash back lol Rating: |
