I bought mine recently and i've found it fascinating. The main problem is the battery. I love surfing the internet so the battery dies really quick. I've had no problems using the software installed on the phone. I can call and send messages perfectly. The speed of the phone is really fast. It's got everything you need and it looks amazing. The phone is fantastic on the UK 3 Network. I doubt there will be any problems for you. Good Luck buying the phone.

Worst signal reception, battery life and voice quality of any mobile phone I have ever owned. Two-bar signal strength where other phones have full strength. Battery life of 12 to 18 hours on standby when not getting full signal, which is anytime it is not next to a tower. Returned it for repair and was told this is normal performance. A shame because I love the feel, keyboard, display. It would be ideal if it worked as well as phones did 12 years ago.

The battrey standby is really bad, I hardly use my phone but I always tend to leave it on - but it needs charging every other day.. actually, less than that! The camera and video recording is good and it's great for texting, but it also crashes a lot. I can't wait to get a new phone!

Finally just to add, like most N series phones the battery life is poor.

My Nokia N80 has been a total disappointment. My first froze (and could not be recovered) while uploading the PC Suite. And the replacement they sent me freezes at least once a week (usually while trying to surf the net, or looking through pictures). The time gaps to open things like the picture gallery are really long. For what I was promised would be a landmark phone, it has disappointed. I know two friends that have them (one that recommended it to me) and both are disappointed as well and waiting for their contracts to end. We've all commented on how much we think Nokia's quality has dropped over the years. My last Nokia sorry. And I'll tell anybody who'll listen never to get one either.

i've had my N80 for almost a year a the degradation of usability over that time is unacceptable... it is so slow and unresponsive (if you lock the keypad, it takes an age before you can see anything when you attempt to unlock it) its the same when sending a text message. the battery life is terrible, i've left it on for a day without using it and by the end of the day the battery was dead... even though it was sitting idle... dissapointing camera... the only thing that saves this is the fact that in the begining it was great and the menu's are easy to use and the features just seemed to work perfectly but now its a completely different experience... DO NOT GET THIS PHONE!!!

The N80 is a good smart phone, but it does disappoint in some areas. Firstly, the phone's reception is rather poor. I've been a Nokia fan since day one and older models have a far better reception than this one. I put the N80 side by side with my older, 6230 and the latter showed a more powerful antenna reception than the N80. Also, the reception seems to "black out" from time to time, for apparent reason. The Wi Fi feature, which was the most promising feature of the phone, is also rather disappointing. It's difficult for the phone to grab onto a wi fi signal and once it does it doesn't last long. It appears that you either have to be REAL close to the wi fi source or the wi fi signal has to be very powerful. An annoying message of "close down some applications: memory full" flashes on the screen when you can't open a web page. The same warning appears when you're playing a video, although this happens irregularly. When that warning comes out, I'm not using any oth er application, so I'm baffled about this glitch. Elsewhere the phone does get the job done. You can read word, excel, PP and PDF documents, but you can't edit them (you need additional software). For capturing video, the resolution is pretty good but for a 3 MP camera, the still pictures leave a lot to be desired. At the slightest move of the hand (or the subject) the pictures appear furiously blurred. The phone has a built in flash but it's next to useless. It does, however, take ok pictures on broad daylight. Another annoying thing, for us who like to assign different ring tones to friends and relatives, is the obligatory conversion of MP3 files to either ACC or mp4. If you upload mp3 files and want to use them as ring tones, forget it. They need to be converted to ACC or the other format. I think I place very high expectations on this phone. It's not bad, and it certainly is the most advanced mobile phone I've ever owned. I've hear the N95 fares much better and has some of the same characteristics as the N80, to the point they look quite similar at a simple glance. If there's one good plus about the N80 is the ability to use it as an internet phone, taking into consideration that you have a strong WiFi signal around. I downloaded Gizmo VoIp for this model and it works just fine. For those of us who travel abroad, this will be a the best feature on the phone.

Its exceptionally slow, and sending a text takes amazingly long. Everything on it seems to be slow to be honest. The camera isn't too bad I guess. The speaker for playing music is good though. But it's just terrible. If you want a slow phone, buy this one. disappointed with n80,the phone is not that stable and many times it will flash out white, if lucky it takes about 10sec to recover. Many times it will hang when few programs are running. Another bad thing is the middle or select buttton, really hard to push, very user not friendly, not good when browsing and too hard to push it or double click the link... sigh... Anyway, 2 best points are good pic take and connectivity. Phone is quite smart that can install some goodies. But battery is a problem and a failure, i have to recharge eveyday not just once, but twice or more. i won't recommend buying this phone cos it's old version, camera got no cover and when it's scratched, ouch... New model N81 came out recently but i feel nokia think its customers are dumb... bigger storage but i see no much point as many other phones in market is very much competent. the shape is really cool but think about it, always no perfect or 100% satisfactory, camera only 200megapixel, although few points improved ie. it's slim, looks much better, key button improved. if got much money, just buy it

I have had to have countless software updates and spent a fair amount of time talking to technical helpdesks about the continual problems with the phones software. This has culminated in my phone eventually dying and Nokia still wont admit they have a serious problem with the 'N' series of phones, particularly the N80. I have it on good authority from a source and I quote, 'Stay well away from the Nokia N series'... The phone has been a complete failure and a really bad advert for Nokia. If you enjoy spending your days speaking with a technical helpdesk and updating the software on your phone only for it to eventually completly fail and not even turn on.. I have a nasty habit of changing my phone far too much (I buy them on ebay, use them for about a week then get bored and sell them) Just as a history, I have owned dating back from 2000 (nokia 3310, 3330, NGAGE, 8110, 3410, 6600, M RazR, SE k800i, samsung T100, SPV E100, SPV E200, SPV M1000, O2 XDA II, 02 XDA Mini S, Nokia N70 twice, Nokia N73, LG Shine, BenQ Siemens EF81) ..and that is just off the top of my head. I can say with certainty that the N80 is by far the best phone I have even owned. I have had this phone for over a year which is a total record for me. I never get bored of it, this is by far the easiest phone for texting on (the only other phone that came close was the Nokia 6600). I have pruchased many phone to replace the N80, but every time I have sold the other and kept this one. I dont quite know what it is about this phone that i love so much, maybe its a personal choice thing, bu I have no problems putting my name to this recommendation. Being Symbian, which is by far the best OS for mobile phones, you can make the phone do anything you want it to. for example... I like reminders about text messages or missed calls, Motorola are the only ones that seem to do this as standard, I also like full-screen caller display for incoming calls, which only samsung seem to do, BUT with the N80 being symbian, I have downloaded applications which allow all of the above (for reminders i use 'Remind Me' which is fantastic and for full screen caller display I use 'SkyeCaller Pro' which also shows full screen pics for text messages aswell as incoming calls. I find with the N80 I do not have to trade off features of my ideal phone, if there is something you want it to do, the chances are you can download an application that will allow you to do it. I simply and deeply wish that nokia would produce an N80 that looks like the LG Shine or Samsung U700 (I hope there is someone from Nokia that may read this), as this would be my dream phone. The N80 is a little on the 'fat' side which doesnt look great in a jeans pocket, and to maybe make the slider action a little more definate. I have thought about getting the N95, in which i think its great Nokia came up with another slider, they obviously realised they were onto a winner with the N80, but I have seen the N95, although a little thinner, it is bigger (wider and longer) than the N80 When I first bought this phone, i did not think i would like it, but I cannot part with it, no other phone on the market has tempted me away. NOKIA: YOU ARE BY FAR THE BEST PHONE MANUFACTURER ON THE MARKET, AND HAVE A VERY LOYAL FOLLOWING. PLEASE, PLEASE COME OUT WITH A N80-LIKE PHONE THAT LOOKS LIKE THE SHINE OR U700. THE WORKINGS OF THE PHONE YOU HAVE DOWN TO PERFECTION WHICH I GIVE 100/100 BUT DESIGN AND LOOKS ARE SLIGHTLY LAGGING BEING YOUR RIVALS.

I bought this after I lost my Razr V3 maxx. I was just looking for a cheap 3G replacement, and I spot the Nokia 6288 and 6120 Classic, both just over 200 for phone only, then i found this N80, top of the line of nokia last year, at a discount of 269, almost half from last year! Wireless LAN is the killing apps, and the S60 platform preforms better then i thought! I have Office suite and Oxford dictionary installed and it sync with outlook so i can leave my PDA at home. A small complaint is on battery, which last only 2 days with normal usuage, less then the V3maxx, and its a bit slow. Otherwise this phone is perfect.

The worst phone I have ever had and I would urge no one else to part with cash for one. The operating system is slow and shuts down regularly. The phone echoes. The internet dials-up in your pocket because the lock is rubbish. The speakerphone is really weak. It's a hefty phone to carry. Receiving calls often locks it out, leaving you with the incomming icon on the screen but with no option but to re-start the phone. Restarting the phone takes a life in itself. The battery hardly lasts a day with a 'normal' amount of calls being made. It has a stupid option to upload photos which, again, goes off when you don't want it to. Nokia are really starting to dissappoint me - all I want is a decent phone that works!! Where to go from here... The reviews for the E50 have been awful. And although the E60 has good reviews and seems to work - its supposed to look like a brick.

The phone also does freezes frequently. It takes an age when trying to switch the phone back on again. The phone slide feature is poor. With most slide features the phone would click into place when extended howver this phone just slides out and feels flims. The key lock also does not work well. Ok Guys... I really have to stick my head up from the ramparts here to defend a very good piece of kit from the negative experiences of a handful of people, who seem to be struggling with the fact they've got themselves something that you won't find in Woolworths or Argos. Firstly, stability........ I've got a generic, non-branded, non-locked N80 handset with the most up-to-date firmware and it is ROCK SOLID. No crashes, no hangs, no resets or restarts, no white screens.... Just a rock solid phone. Why? Because Orange haven't had their hands on it, so it is exactly as Nokia intended it to be. So don't complain to Nokia that Orange polluted their phone with buggy software; it is NOT the fault of the handset manufacturer. The same will affect battery life. FACT. Size...... Nokia clearly advertise the size of this handset. It is large because of the internal hardware required to do so much. If you want a thin phone get an Samsung Ultra. It won't have WiFi, or the amazing screen resolution of the N80, or Symbian software, but it will fit in your handbag with your Silk Cut, no problem. Labelling the N80 a "brick" just makes you look stupid. Slow texts........ Download and install Nokia's SMS accelrator. Problem solved. Keylock........ People are whining that the slider only has to move 1mm before the keys unlock. I have to slide my keypad almost the entire way to get the keys to unlock. Also, if it locked automatically upon closing the slider you'd all be complaining that it locks itself when you're still trying to do things with the other keys. It says "lock keypad?" when you close it. How much easier could it be.....?!!!! Battery life......... Don't buy a handset that does as much as the N80 and expect it to last as long as your old green-screen 6310i. Nokia are clever people but they cannot change the laws of physics. There are some simple steps you can take to make your battery last longer. I get 1.5 to 2.5 days of life with average calls/txts/camera/mp3 usage. Turn off WLAN scanning when you don't need it, same goes for Bluetooth. Car chargers and desk chargers were invented for a reason. If you buy a laptop you can choose between a power-thirsty workhorse or a goes-easy-on-the-voltage weaker model. The N80 just happens to be a workhorse. That's what it was designed for. Camera.......... The N80 has a good camera, that is let down by a lack of auto-focus. It is no secret that there are better 'camera-phones' out there. I get fantastic results outdoor in good light, and less so indoors. Which is what I expected from the advertised spec. I never expected something to compete with a Canon SLR. Nokia PC Suite.......... This is excellent software for people that actually want to use the features of the N80, rather than just get a phone that plays the latest Britney Spears song. You can use it to back-up your phone, update the Firmware (very, very, simple...) and install extra software to the handset. It couldn't be easier. Again, on my modest Dell laptop it is ROCK SOLID. So....... I'll admit that every manufacturer must send out a faulty unit from time-to-time, no-one's perfect. So apart from the occasional user review of someone who's had one of the bad units, I can't understand where all the bad reviews are coming from. Oh, hang on, I can... They're from people who got their phone upgraded and just went for the handset that did the most, or looked the most expensive, then complained because what they had in their greedy little paws was a piece of kit you have to appreciate to enjoy. Get a de-branded, unlocked hand-set and update the firmware, install Nokia's SMS accelerator, and you've got an amazing phone. It's a very advanced peice of technology that simply wasn't made for people that want to sit in McDonalds texting their mates on the next table and setting Eminem as their ringtone. Thank you.

Hi all, I just wished I had known of this review website before I got my Nokia N80. I got my phone on a monthly contract from 3 in February 2007. It worked OK for a while because I hardly used any of its multimedia functions music, internet etc. One day, in the battery seemed to just die out and no matter what i did to charge it and get it up again - it wouldn't work! I couldn't get the flashing blue lights to come on either. I told THREE about the problem, and they promptly took for phone for 'repairs'. It came back a few days later with the battery looking as if it had been tampered with. However because it was working again I did not think anything of the battery. Now the phone has gone kaput again and I know i've got a battle ahead in getting either a refund and a new phone. I am quite sure they must have known about this problem when they sold it to me. At the time, they were flogging it on a 'special offer' to unsuspecting punters like me. I am sure it's no coincedence that the product is now discontinued. It deserves a fraudulent 0 rating but you don't have that so I give it a 1.

Oh - and by the way, if you're a Three customer, don't upgrade your firmware off the genuine Nokia site. You won't even be able to send texts without a trip to your friendly Three service centre! At least 212,500 to 250,000 units of Nokia N-series Returned for Repair in Singapore I bought a set of Nokia N80 phone on 7 November 2006. Within three months, I encountered technical problems such as the phone turning off automatically during the course of conversation. When I switched it on again, a message would appear that the SIM card registration failed. The phone has been increasingly causing more problems. For example, I am unable to receive text messages timely (sometimes the lagtime could stretch to the next day), unable to hear my counterparty using handset (unless via loudspeaker or earpiece) and corruption of my memory card. On 15 June 2007, Nokia service centre in Suntec City, Singapore retained my phone for repair and it was written on the acknowledgement form that the phone would be ready for collection on 18 June 2007 (12:00 p.m.). However, I was only informed that they had not commenced the repair when I was there to collect the phone. On 19 June 2007, Nokia replaced a new motherboard. Within two hours, the phone automatically switched off. As I restarted it, the welcoming tone via loudspeaker was loud, irritating and weird. I forced a shut down and thereafter, it could not be restarted. A customer relation manager called to offer a so-called exceptional switch of transceiver, with an extension of two months from the end of the initial warranty. After a considerable thought, I decline the offer as I find it unacceptable. By the time the warranty lapse (in January 2008), this imperfect gadget might be useless. I wish to express my deepest dissatisfaction of the quality of the phone and service I received. The unsatisfactory quality of the phone has resulted in my suffering massive loss of data in the corrupted memory card. In addition, it caused me great inconvenience (as I had to travel frequently to Nokia and could not use the phone as intended). The manager informed me that (only) 8.5% to 10% of the 2.5 million units of N-series sold in Singapore are sent back for repair. This does not factor in users that have sold their phone before reaching Nokia for solution. I am writing to share my bad experience and would like Nokia to account to the public on how it intends to deal with the defective phones and whether there will be any recall of the phones to prevent inconvenience to the users. I am open for further queries from Nokia to defend their integrity and responsibility for consumers. Regards Anthony Chang Singapore Email: ackvbelteshazzar@yahoo.co.uk Contact No.: +(65) 9227 7590

IT'S SOOOO SLOW. Right now if i send a text I have to wait at least 5 seconds before i can do anything else with it, and that is no lie. Nokia N80ie V 4.0632.0.38 13-10-2006 RM-92 Thought of expressing my experience on this nice little piece of art, packed densely with sooooooooo many features that you’ll discover something new every day you use it. I’ve got it in February and played with it for last 2months before making any comment because,I’ve heard enough rumors to stay away from shifting to this from my 6630.But now I’m pretty happy about my decision after buying it. Any way now let’s move on to the major issues that people are blaming on N80. 1.Poor camera quality:- First of all you must clearly understand that the NOKIA N80 is a smartphone, not a NIKON N80 or any other advanced camera. To my experience its giving satisfactory image quality. Don’t try to compare it with N73 which has a different kind of sensor and autofocus(But slow). Also N80 camera has lot of settings and after playing with it for some times you’ll find out which combination is the best, depending on the light condition of your day today environment. Its true that it takes some time n practice to get used to it. Another issue is that the camera settings do not stay the same after you exit. For this,1st you have to make your own shooting mode in USER profile n save it. Then you can switch to it whenever you are shooting. The macro mode is great if you are student who uses library,it will help u to scan n keep ur reference notes n diagrams. 2.Slow and Stuck or restart frequently:- This thing is user dependent.(For heavy software users like me try to use some kind of taskmanager so you can have a good idea about how the ram decays as u use the apps,Yet there is no productive app available to regain this memory in 3rd edition, but soon there will)And also you must understand that you are using a N-Series multimedia computer that runs on Symbian OS v9.1,which is very similar to a Windows XP based machine(I mean qualitywise not quantitywise). So the guys out there blaming on this issue probably wouldn’t have used a PC,I guess.Just be honest to your selves, haven’t you ever experienced restartings n crashes with your PC.And keep this in mind too keep realistic expectations instead of hypothetical fantasies. If you are using ur phone, a.)Only to make calls listen to music, take photos, and texting. Its better for you to buy a typical java phone or SE w series(Really gives good music n suits well for typical entertaining).they wont bother you within your requirements. b.)To all the above and in addition, take you whole life in your pocket like PIM,Advanced web browsing, wide range of entertainment, navigation,TV,Call & File management, Highly customized organizing,Office,Dictionaries,eBooks and many more. You should go for a Symbian.2nd or 3rd edition. As a guide here Im listing the softwares that Im currently using in my N80ie. Screenshot Photorite Panoman Nokia wallpaper creater Name card genarator Theme DIY Barcode Reader Resco viewer Quick office Premier Office Suite MsDict viewer(More than 14 different types of Dictionaries) Collins Dictviewer Best jotter Solution Pdf+ Mobireader Nokia WLAN wizard Nokia timezone upgrade Nokia SMS accelerator Psiloc hotspot finder YahooGO Nokia Mobile search Nokia Podcast World mate Mobile weather Nokia Smart2GO Nokia Parksuite SymTorrent Opera Browser Symella Coogee Live TV Reuters Resco News Windows Live messenger Interactive Voice call master ShoZu Nokia Zip manager Seach Nokia Sports tracker Wellness Diary Handy weather Handy expenses Handy taskman Handy keylock Handy safe Best taskman Rotate me Ntorch lite Handy zip Punch2Go Best birthday Best calc Handy clock Handy alarm Y-Browser Active file Fexplorer X-plore Allfinder Sysexplorer Tasky Nsys Info Callman Advanced Device Locks Advanced call manager SMS spam manager Best crypto F secure Phone guard Alon contact guide Auto hangup Answering machine Best call back Best message store Remind ME Phone pilot SMS one Call recorder Fs caller Sky callerpro Zensis SMS wizard Nokia Team suite Smart movie Mobile DVD LCG juke box Alon MP3 Dictaphone Mystrands Telstra player Divx player Pocket ogg Extended recorder PVR TYassistant And they all wok fine. 3. Wobbly Slider mechanism. First of all have to understand the difference between a normal phone and a feature packed smart phone.Unlike 1100 or a 5210(Nothing happens even if u keep them dropping all da time, cos theres nothing to breake inside them),A smartphone comes with more delicate gadgets inside them which should be treated with care. And in N80 the slider is some thing special and handy. Many complaints about the wobbly feeling and the looseness. But I think nokia has done this intentionally for the protection of the phone.I mean just imagine If the slider was firm and tight there is less space to release a pressure if u drop the phone. But since the slider can move sideways also there is enough motion to absorb the impact and release the pressure. And also it doesn’t use a ribbon like in other sliders. After all If u have access to a Wi-Fi hotspot an N80 will give u almost anything u need!

First thing you must do with this phone is update to the latest version of the software - ideally use the nss software to change the product code to the internet edition firmware and then the phone runs fine and doesn't crash. This also removes any operator branding which helps. (doesn't remove the simlock though). Battery life is a pain but I resolved it by buying a desktop charger and a spare battery. Whilst battery life is not good for a phone, it is better than PDA's. Not too bad but I ended up replacing it with a Nokia N95....

I have always had Nokia phones and this one looked smart and had a decent camera and other features on, however in comparison to other older Nokias I think I need a science degree to operate it! I too have had no end of trouble with the display breaking up, it takes 10 mins for a text to go thru and then will often re-start itself and store the text in the outbox so I have to send it again. Also constantly freezes up so I have to resort to taking the battery out to get it working again. I have given up having a screen saver and allocated ring tones cos I cant be bothered re-setting everything umpteen times a day. Hopefully the replacement will be better especially as I had to change to an 18 month contract, a clause in O2's policy failed to disclose despite repeated phone calls to check if I could have a new phone as new as the Nokia N80 at the end of my 12 month contract.

Then started noticing occasional problems with the phone crashing, freezing & switching itself off. The problems are becoming more frequent the longer I have it. Even though this was annoying it didn't really deter me because the rest of the phone was so good but the final straw was when i realised it sets off the security alarms in shops! It happens in all major shops like Game, HMV, Asda etc. I've been told by the shop assistants that it's happened to quite a few people (not sure whether it's only with this particular model) but it's embarassing & a pain when you're in a hurry and have to get quizzed by security! My business partner has had four replacements too. For all thats if truly super about this phone it is well and truly flawed. Such a shame as it works brilliantly. Our office away from the office. The fact that they choose to swich themselves off when on 3G or dual mode and that I have lost more contacts and information than I care to mention...Fed up now and looking to change. Trouble is what too. When it works it is fantastic but for an expensive so called flagship modle it just dosen't cut the mustard. Is Nokia ever going to get back to the heady days of supreme quality? Only time will tell.

Had this phone for 9 months now so I think I can give a pretty well rounded review of it's good an bad points. Firstly the good; great quality, large display. Superb camera (although can give grainy results in low light conditions, especially in movie mode). Nice looking handset all round. Bad points however and far more in number! Awful battery life. Needs a charge every couple of days with moderate use. Turn on the WiFi or the bluetooth and you better have a charger handy in the next couple of hours. Nokia insist on using the same battery for many phones (as opposed to someone like samsung who mould the battery into the back door) which means the whole phone feels plasticy and creaky and generally ruins the "top of the line" looks of the phone. The Symbian OS is still too slow for phone use. Updating the firmware using Nokia's online software updater (a great idea in theory) has scrambled all my contact first and last names. I've now been through 3 headsets and I'm tired of getting them replaced so I no longer use it as a music player. To summarise, it's great for a while...and then you begin to realise that you should have stuck with the D500 you had last time. All the extra features like WiFi have a crippling effect on battery life to the point that it ceases to be a mobile device as you need to be near a charging point the minute you want to use them. Build quality could be solved by having a custom battery for the phone but Nokia are determined to cut corners and keep profit margins up so don't expect them to change any time soon.

Worst phone ever. Constanltly freezes or cuts out altogether. Constant signal problems while other memebrs of the family on the same network have no problem!! Texts delayed up to 8 hours. Now on my 3rd one in a torrid 6 months with Orange UK. Camera not as good as its 3mp spec would suggest and it won't connect via Bluetooth with a Mac, a 'known fault' apparently! Well, if that's the case, why haven't Nokia done something about it. This isn't a free phone with the contract, it cost £150 as a top of the range smart phone with an 18 month contract that now seems like a life sentence. Nokia have lost the plot. Their phones are now boxy, chunky items, overstuffed with 'features' that just don't hack it.Can't wait for the iPhone. It's the last Nokia I will ever have. I was so looking forward to this phone coming out, waiting ages. There weren't many reviews out when I got it so didn't know how truly awful it really is. Everything said in the main review above is true, however it has not scratched the surface. The whole system is unstable and illogical, Sony Ericsson designs are far superior, the camera I thought was good quality though don't try to take photos in the dark or of moving objects. Trying to take a photo of my niece is impossible, she sees the flash and then moves to continue to play which means I have a picture of a chair with some vague blur on it. The WORST thing is sending texts, every text sent freezes the phone for about 2 minutes. This means you can't continue the phone, can't recieve phone calls, can't recieve texts, can't use other applications and can't even lock it. If you are considering getting this phone, please please don't get it. It is the worst phone i've ever had and am now using a spare S700i instead.

Just switched from N73 to N80 (N73 is great by the way! It's now my wife's phone). A few comments: (1) slider is quite smooth though slack for those who put their phones in their pockets, (2) after having nokia care upgrade my firmware (now: v 4.0623.0.41), the OS now runs faster and the freezing has stopped (been using it for a month after the update, no hassles yet), (3) the camera is second only to the N73, but still a competent challenger, (4) Wi-Fi connection in 5 minutes tops, plus improved/effective browser, (5) flash/thumb drive data transfer mode is a nice feature for the business inclined, (6) sms sending is just as fast, (7) no dropped voice/video calls , (8) typical macro (better than the v3x's) with a sweet spot, (9) user friendly numeric pads and softkeys, (10) all PDA type features are appreciated (it's my personal office secretary, since I don't have a real one), (11) truly amazing screen for images and games (smaller than the N73's but feels wide due to umpteen pixels)! A few advices: (1) DO NOT install flash files just yet (it slows my OS down, especially those flash type games from nokia HongKong), (2) DO NOT install untrusted themes and apps (the phone warns us about these executions for a reason): my phone suddenly stalls upon usage of several third party software, even the original N73 red theme "fire."

I have now lived with the N80 for six months and I'm happy to say I won't be living with it for the next six I have just got a new sony ericsson. After having SE's, Samsung's, and motorola's I was finally swung towards Nokia. Easy to use, good software and everything else I was all ways told by other nokia user's well this phone has to be one of the biggest dissapointments. The main review above is pretty spot on this phone really does everything you want it to do. But smart phones in my eyes are for business user's and thats what I am my phone is a crucial part of my business and I got two N80's for me and my assistant. The HUGE problem is we can't use any of the smart fetures of this phone because even with everything switched to maximum battery saving if you start work at 9am you are very lucky if it will get you to 3pm (and thats being kind sometimes it is dead by lunchtime) that leaves at least 3hrs of the working day with you out of communication!! Nokia woul d have done better to have ditched the camera (if you want a 3 mega pixel digital camera then buy one) and given us a full length battery that could at least do a days work. Also contacts in the phone has a big bug even though you may have a name and number stored in the phone or sim certain names it just ignores and rather than being able to see who is ringing you (caller id)or texting you all you get is just their number very frustrating. As for all the other futures on the phone when I have had chance to use them one phrase sums it up unfortunatly "Jack of all trades and master of none" if you really rely on you phone then I'm affraid you need to look elsewhere

The n80 is a near perfect phone, it has great connectivity, good reception (standard on almost all new phones), a brilliant screen and I've found it too be very reliable. It's biggest problem is the battery. 3 days is the best I've had and that was when hardly using it. Sometimes you get up in the morning to find that it died in the night. Fortunately it does recharge in a reasonably short amount of time. The screen and web browser both need a mention as they are flawless. It is easy to read PDF files on the screen even though it is small and the standard web browser is easy to use and lets you view standard web pages. I even have VoIP running on this phone (really kills the battery) and it was easy to set up and works reliably. If you accept the battery is just too small for the phone then I think it is the best out there. My biggest problem is that this is the first slide phone I've used and they are not for me, but if I didn't keep putting it into the pockets on jeans this would not be a problem.

Sure, it looks a good phone but whats the point in having it if you can't use it. Recommend you keep on walking. Ah, glad thats off my chest

Avoid! Don't be fooled by its good looks. This is by far the worst phone I have ever owned. I've stayed loyal to Nokia for years and really looked forward to getting an N80. It's a massive disappointment. Nokia really should recall it and fix the plethora of problems. I'm surprised mine hasn't gone to mobile heaven just yet, as I've been tempted to throw it at the pavement too many times to mention. Buy one and look forward to the following adventures: - Battery life: When brand new it lasted two days (with little usage) at the absolute best. These days I'm lucky to get 12 hours. After two months I bought new battery for 40 pounds. In the same time period it is now just as unreliable. When the battery gets to a certain point it won't even charge. It really is the worst possible situation. - Media Player: I was looking forward to ditching my iPod and using the N80 instead. Sure, with a 2 gig card it's a very handy way to listen to your music. But the laughable battery performance listed above means you can literally watch your battery draining away before your favorite tune has even ended. - System Lock Ups: Send a text message and watch the N80s menu and funcitons lock up. Sometimes for up to 30 seconds. Answer the phone and sometimes the N80 gets confused and crashes. I shifted everything off the phone memory and onto the card to try and solve the problem but it is still there. - Camera: Simply pathetic. The problems above mean it takes about 40 seconds to cycle into life. Take a photo and it locks up again. And the quality is far worse than the N70 I used to own. Take a video and watch the phone totally freak out. My N80 has just gone back in its box. I want to sell it but am would feel bad about putting someone else through the same pain! I've reverted to my Nokia 1100. Battery lasts six days!

I have never bought anything other than Nokia, but this N80 has to be the biggest lump of doggy doo. From day one it kept crashing and after a week the buttons only worked periodically. Lost all confidence in this piece of crap and to think I bought all the bits as well, car charger, 1gb card etc. What a total waste of money.Only made worse by the fact that it has been in the nokia service since September and its now late december and its still there. After at least 12 years of only nokia, this N80 has done only one thing very effectively, that is it has made up my mind that nokia have lost the plot and I thought I would never say this but, I'm off to buy a sony ericsson k800i, my good friend showed it to me half an hour ago and theres no comparison. Nokia you can keep your N80. What a shame, I was one of those punters that used to say, there are two types of phone Nokia and the rest. Not any more.

On Paper this should be a great phone, in practice it is a great phone for about halve a day, then you realise that the battery life is so poor that you need to find a charger and plug it in. I have had mine for about 5 months (actually this is the second one I have had, both have the same problem). By not using any of the features on the phone and limiting calls to just 3 or 4 a day (of only a few seconds duration) the best I have managed to 40 hours on the battery. if I use any of the features of the phone or make one phone call of lets say 30 minutes then I need to charge it again within 10 hours! Got my phone through Orange, and have contacted them and Nokia about this problem, Orange seems to have washed their hands of it and Nokia didn't want to know in the first place. Very disapointed with this phone, will probably never buy another Nokia as a result. My advice for anyone looking at getting this phone - "Get something else!"

i have had this phone about 3 months now. At first the phone was crashing all the time, and the battery life was dead poor, also when txting the text was tiny, also the picture quality was very poor. However about 1 month ago i had the software upgraded on the phone, and it could not be better! everything has changed, my battery life is long lasting, even the txt on the text msgs hit thicker and bolder and easy to see, it does not crash anymore, and the photos are not blurry anymore. This phone is amazing, it comes across as bulky, but i feel like i am carrying a well built phone, also another feature i like is the indent in the txt pad, i am able to text easier because the phone is held properly in my hand. the screen is vibrant and i just love this phone so much, the blue tooth is very fast. Mine is on the 3 network and i feel this phone works brilliantly with it. i previously had the nokia 6280 and switched to this one reluctently. but i could not be happier with the resul t! i would reccomend this phone to anyone!

I waited ages for the N80 to come out and to be honest i'm not sure it was worth it. The main problem with this phone is the appaling battery life. I'm lucky if i can get a day out of it before it beeps at me then turns off. Then when i do charge it up and I turn it on it tries to send "Packet Data" to orange, even though I have this option turned off!! Another bad point of this phone is the build quality. The "N" series are meant to be the premium selection from Nokia. Within two weeks the paint had worn of on the edges of the phone and the display part that slides up rocks from side to side. Another is Nokia have changed the size of the charging port so you will have to buy a new charger for your car etc. Nokia do give you an adaptor but mine doesn't work. Why they had to change this I really don't know!! The one plus point about this is the camera on it. Some people are putting this down as a negative point. What you have to remember is this is a mobile phone firstly, a device to speak to people on and send the odd text. Not a walkman, not a laptop and definatly a digital camera!! If your thinking about getting one of these phones don't bother. The battery life will die on you at the most awkward of times like it has done with me. Look for something else that has a decent sized battery that will give you more than a day.

O.k, I'm going to start by telling you that I actually love this phone! Which I know makes absolutely no sense of the one star rating! Read on and you'll know why! I'm going to start with the bad: I got this phone on Orange (big mistake but great network) the day it was released back in May. I saw it and loved it straight away. 6 days later it went back. Number 1 had a most annoying habit of repeatedly switching himself off whenever he felt like it. Also, he had no inclination to connect to wap, couldn't send photo messages and the final straw came on day 6 when his red hang up key died and the only way to end a call was to pop the battery out (he wouldn't switch off either). Dissappointed but I put it down to being teething troubles. Hello Number 2, My best N80 to date!! Again no internet connection or photo messaging but otherwise he seemed o.k. At least he stayed awake! After several calls totalling about 4 hours with Orange we even got him functioning! Hooray!! A few little hiccups, the odd freeze here and there, but number 2 showed me exactly what the phone is capable of when it actually works! I loved him! Fabulous photo's, not at all slow, quirky text messaging, all the text shoots off to the left but they've all done that so I won't make it personal with number 2! Took him to a concert and got great video, what more could I ask? Unfortunately, his microphone packed up amd everyone said I sounded like an alien, so with much sadness, number 2 was returned also. RIP Number 2, you were great! Welcome number 3! The usual internet problem again, but I got it fixed and he started life positively. I took him on holiday to the Dominican Republic and he performed brilliantly the whole time! On an excrsion to a jaw droppingly beautiful island, my Olympus camera battery went flat so I only had Number 3 to rely on, he did a fabulous job! I could not fault him, he saved me that day! The photo's were beautiful and I've since burnt them to disc and they show up perfectly on my 28" widescreen tv. Then I brought him back to England and he wasn't happy. Someone had grown acclimatised to hot weather me thinks, and he wasn't happy to be back in cold England. He started to freeze, repeatedly, about every 2 hours to be precise. So out came the battery, but then he wouldn't switch back on again, just the famous N80 'white screen of death'. Number 3 had done me proud but unfortunately, he died. Number 4 arrived. Oh dear. Oh dear oh deary me. My worst experience to date. He arrived just gone 3 in the afternoon and by about 8.30pm the SAME DAY, he'd frozen up some 27 times and switched himself off never to be revived. Needless to say, he went back to Orange to be buried in the ever growing N80 graveyard. Enter the fray Number 5! I got him on Saturday afternoon (7th October) and he's still here! I'm not saying too much because I don't want to tempt fate! He had the classic internet problem but I've such experience with that one now I fixed it myself this morning and now it works! I really hope I don't have to write another review and that's all I'm saying! Anyway, with reference to Orange, I love the network and the customer service advisors are always incredibly friendly and helpful, I can't knock them for that. However, they are very quick to blame Nokia for the huge list of faults, but by all accounts, the majority of N80 fault riddled phones are on the Orange network, not so with the others. It appears to be a massive conflict between Nokias and Oranges software. Orange have discontinued the N80 and will now not be releasing the N73 or the N91. They say they've had it with Nokia's smartphones. Nokia tell me they are fed up of the reputation their phones are getting because of Oranges tinkering with the phones. Apparantly Orange change the original software more than any other network. Who do you believe? On a final note, the last man I spoke to at Orange was a arrogant and told me that if I will support slave labour by buying Nokia phones then what should I expect? He says that although it clearly says made in Finland, the phones are made in China using cheap parts and cheap labour, as are apparantly Sony Ericcsons. He says he's the technician and he should know! And that I should buy a Samsung or a Siemens because Japanese and German technology is the best in the world! I'll leave you all to make your own opinions on that one! Hope this has helped.

The camera is very good, wifi works a treat and it was only 10 mins before i was on the net and checking for emails -free!!- ... i am on the orange network and can only assume the the past troubles were due to early firmware niggles....as i have experienced none of the problems that other people seem to have....i would recommend this phone 100%...but i would recommend buying one of the uprated batteries that are available....EXCELLENT PHONE.

We have 4 friends who own this phone, 2 had no problems at all and the other 2 had only minor problems that were sorted out with a software update. So about 4 weeks ago we bought an N80 from P4U on the ‘3’ network and have had nothing but trouble with it right out of the box. Every time we disconnect from a call or browser session the phone displays error messages such as ‘insert sim-card’ or ‘sim-card registration failed’ and then switches itself into the offline profile. Once this has occurred the only way that we have found to switch back to general profile so that we can actually make calls, is to turn it off, wait about 20mins and switch it back on again. The people at P4U changed the phone the next day and the replacement was exactly the same! 4 weeks on and it has just come back from ‘3’ after being fully repaired and is no better. And we have also experienced not being able to hear the person you are calling as another reviewer has reported on this site. Looking at ot her reviews on the web has led me to believe that owners are divided roughly 50/50 as to whether this is a brilliant phone or a seriously underdeveloped product. You might get a good one – then again..

The phone has many rich features, which if you actually want to use, may make it worth getting, at some point. Software is a bit buggy, and I am surprised that it has actually been released, maybe they used microsoft as a role model!? I'd wait a year or two for this to be ironed out (I wish I had!!) Orange and T-mobile both have issues with opening packet data connections without your knowledge, which will result in you being charged. Orange have known about this for at least a month but don't seem willing to tell their users unless you query your bill. It seems they are relying on people being lazy and not noticing. Anyway, enough on Orange Otelo will be looking into their behaviour shortly. The phone is not ready for release in my opinion.

The N80 feels better in the hand than it does it the pocket. Where the slightly chunky design makes using the phone actually pretty comfortable, it feels massive and bulky in pockets –especially in jeans etc. A major down fall of this phone is the slide and phone lock mechanism. It will not automatically lock when you close the slide and you have to tell it to do so ever time. The slides poor design means the phone can too easily open making the lock deactivate when put into a pocket or bag and come active and start making calls etc. The slide also feels cheap and the screen section tends to rattle around a bit on the main section when closed. Battery life is also abysmal. I understand today’s phones run colour screens and real tones and that the days of the 3310’s somewhat everlasting battery are in the past but the N80 performed very baldly here. I am not a heavy phone user and found that 30 minutes of voice calls, 10 txt sends and 10 minutes of web browsing had the battery gasping its last and the phone switched off with no warning. This was over a period of 1.5 days. My limited time spent on the web browser could only be called frustrating. It crashed out endless times and the phone gives ‘out of memory errors’ every few pages. They was the case on both mobile connect or using the WiFi. The camera is the phones only really savoir. The 3M camera performs well even in lowlight and the landscape viewing and operation/viewing works well. Overall this phone has been a major disappointment to me. Nokia have lost the way with this model. Even the familiar Nokia interface seems lost in a maze of shortcuts and multimedia keys. Its been such a disappointment, the locking and battery life being my main concerns, I have decided I can’t live with it and done the unthinkable…..purchased a non Nokia phone. The Samsung D900. Chosen due to it also having a 3m camera. Will add a review shortly after I live with it for a bit but initial signs look good. As for the N80 it has ended a 7 year run of Nokias for me…so not recommended.

The N80, primarily, is a phone - but only if you are in a strong signal area. I frequently find myself walking around to try and get a signal. At home I hang the phone in a window to get a signal and use a bluetooth headset to make a call. The battery needs to be charged every day, especially if you're in a poor signal area. Using the Symbian programs on the N80 will also shorten time between charges. Never had a mobile before that's only properly usable all day if you "run it off the mains" - ie with the charger lead plugged in. The phone is slow changing screens and sometimes seems to have locked-up, but usually gets there eventually. Texting uses a tiny font with no menu option to increase the size. A few Themes come with the phone, but only the default Nokia Theme is usable if you want to see small text on the screen. I shouldn't need to reach for my reading glasses just to use a phone. As at August 2006, no other Themes were available for this phone from the Nokia web site. The camera is mediocre and the lens is the first thing to touch a surface when you put the phone down. There is no scratch protection. Other people have written about memory card problems. About once a week my phone will tell me there is no memory card, so I have to take the card out and put it in again, and sometimes wait the minute or so for the phone to switch off and boot up again before it will recognise it. Frustratingly, this phone does not come with very usable software. You have to dig around the internet for software, for instance, to give a daily alarm call. The enclosed ‘Office’ software is Read Only stuff because (as at Aug2006) the full version has still to be written for this version of Symbian. Actually, to make this phone properly usable, one would need to download quite a few programs, but unfortunately few of these have yet been modified to this particular version of Symbian, The N80 promises much but I suspect it will be superseded before the required software catches up.
