Reviewed by Kitty19 on 23/02/2011 Absolutely fantastics phone!!! Defo recommended!!! I've had a blackberry 9780 and i hated it i prefer this one i just bought this recently. I wanted a phone that's as gud as a nokia 6300, I tried going for the 6700 but read the reviews they were awful. So went for this phone and i loveeee it soo much. User friendly, love the steel and shiny phone surface. It's not expensive for something as good as a nokia e71. If you want a good phone with wifi, camera, good message storage and battery life this phone is the one then. Rating:

I am due an up-grade now but to be honest it will be wrench to give this phone up. I love the look of this phone and the fact that it is mostly chrome gives it a nice heavy and solid expensive feel. I am going to get the HTC Desire only because I dont think the E72 looks as nice as the E71. I can only hope it is a good as this has been. The E71 has been the best phone I have ever had and I will be keeping it as a back up . Rating:
Reviewed by Kath on 15/11/2010 I've had my white e71 for one year now and I absolutely love every aspect of it! I'm 15 and I think it's the perfect all-rounder in a phone! When my ipod broke, who was there to save the day? My nokia! The music player is amazing, video quality is very high, exting is a breeze, camera quality is good, internet is fast, the sound is great, it's just fabulous for everything in my opinion. Even the apps available for download on the Ovi store are super easy to install and really fun! I've had no technical problems with mine, the only small issue is that the button on the bottom row of the keypad, furthest to the left, is falling off. That's easy enough to fix though and 100% worth it! I recommend this phone to ANYONE who is interested in it!! Rating:

When browing the net it often freezes and says "your request has been interupted by the host". It doesn't let you end a call when the number is busy. rubbish the fact that it won't alert a new email, you have to manually upload your emails everytime. When you reply to an email, when you press send you have to connect to the server again. it stops alerting text message unless you manually delete some. the ringtone choice is rubbish. it's generall useless. the only good thing about it is the battery life and keyboard is good. Reviewed by YokshireDave on 01/10/2010 When I received it just under 18mths ago I was so impressed. Three weeks later I was fuming! Its teh dust under teh screen issue that has driven me to distraction mainly. In my job (bathroom installation) I come into contact with a fair amount of dust. I know this from old so always keep my phone in a pouch when its not used. Despite this after three weeks I simply couldn't read the screen! I googled, found out it was a common problem, and larned how to fix it - albeit on a temp basis. So began my monthly ritual of stripping it down and rebuilding it... My other HUGE gripe is that, despite all the reassurances, the keyboard lock DOES NOT WORK. On hundreds of occasions my phone has dialled out despite it supposedly being locked! On investigation, it turns out that the keyboard lock will onmly work when you're at the home screen. What good it that? Even when it is set it somehow manages to dial out. Nokia tell me it can't happen. Battery life is very good and the Nokia Suite software is great too. I still can't work out how to disconnect from the net without having to delve down into the connectivity section to do it manually each time. Although I'm not charged, it does eat the battery if left. I love the contscts section as its very comprehensive but it would be nice if one could have a few customiseable fields too. Lastly, reliability. Despite all it has survived many falls. The worst of which was me leaving it on the roof of my car and taking off. It flew off as I rounded a corner but simply shut down. No screen break and fully function - if somewhat battered! It has only ever frozen up a couple of times too. It def does not like being used in teh rain though. Last time I tried it reset itself 3 times in less than 5 minutes. It wasn't a downpoor either. Would I have one again? Unless they address my issues No. If they improved it Yes. As is it has too many trivial bits and too slippery for working fingers. Rating:

Reviewed by Jude Perera on 23/07/2010 I regret buying this phone. It is slow, heats up while on a call and try multi-tasking and you are sure you will have to restart the unit. Worst of all when it is taken to the Nokia agents all they do is take it in for inspection then restore to factory default (I have to personalize the settings again) and give it to you. By this time you are tired of waiting you just take the thing and go only to realize the problem still persists. I have done this about 5 times. The agents the first time replaced the unit I purchased with a brand new one. I have taken the replacement in about 3 times; and now I can't be bothered. Lots of bells and whistles but not what I expected. Good phone if you have the patience and love to keep restarting your phone. Rating:
Reviewed by t noon on 23/07/2010 Nice phone to look at and performs most things well. However it suffers from poor signal levels. This is caused by the position of the internal antenna, bottom of phone where you would hold it. By turning the phone upside down or holding it central, the signal picks up. Thought they might have noticed that when testing. Overall great for media, useless for phonecalls due to never ending dropped calls. Rating:

Reviewed by Andy on 07/07/2010 A nice phone completely ruined by a primitive UI. I have just received an E71 as my work phone & it is a BIG step back from my previous HTC Touch. The Touch running Windows Mobile had its flaws, but it was highly configurable and much richer in features. I can't believe how clunky and limited the Symbian UI is :- - no spellchecker ! - no way to edit text templates (i.e. I want to be able to add “best regards …” - terrible presentation of emails, cluttered and messy. - restricted shortcuts on the home screen (i.e. not all applications can be included) - inconsistent functionality (i.e. you can turn bluetooth off, but WLAN is more convoluted) - horrible garish themes (dark red !? black !?) - camera button on the home screen, which is easily pressed unintentionally (and then often displays "camera is unavailable" - unwanted features that can't be switched-off, e.g. video calls. - an unconfigurable home screen, i.e. can't move the clock & it takes up half the screen - can't have separate volumes for ringing and for other notifications I've only had this phone 2 days & I hate it. it is a nice piece of hardware powered by a clunking, ugly steam engine. Reviewed by Joaquim on 31/05/2010 Cons: Being mainly a Apple Mac user, had to use a PC for Nokia PC or OVI Store suites. Updating the firmware is a nightmare. Pros: It has a great keyboard for texting, easy to press the keys quickly, syncs with my Gmail account great, so I have all my contacts and calendar on it. I first got this phone in November 2009. I now totally love it. The phone just feels great. The keyboard keys are responsive and just preferred to a touchscreen keyboard. Nokia just built this phone well. The menus are not user friendly not its design great. But the phone has proven to be great all these months. The battery lasts about 2 days of heavy talking. I trust this phone. Rating:
Reviewed by Michael on 26/05/2010 As a business user I recommend this phone. The Skype client works very well (only drawback is that Skype calls get put on hold when a GSM call comes in), Google maps works well with the navigator capabilities of the phone, and I even got the iPass client to work so I can us WiFi on the go whenever I find an iPass network. Yes, it's an ugly phone - but it comes with a case so nobody needs to see it. Like I said: I'm a business user - I care for functionality and this phone works really well for me. Rating:

Reviewed by Ray Coyte on 15/05/2010 I hate the damn thing. I have had it for 9 months and I still hate it. The UI is very poor and not at all intuitive. What really bugs me is that I have to regularly spend 30 minutes manually deleting messages as a number of bugs occur if you dont. The most common bug is lack of notification when text messages come in. Nokia first tell you to use PC suite to synch with your PC...then that seems to have vanished and you have to use OVI suite...a very weird and clumsy app. The buttons are too close together and too small and sending messages is slow and time consuming. Having had Blackberry's in the past they leave the E71 in the shade. All phones take time to get used to...but after 9 months I hate this phone as much now as I did on the first day. Rating:

Reviewed by P James Menter on 12/05/2010 The Nokia E71 now comes with the facility to download maps either via the internet WiFi at home or your mobile service provider. The Nokia/Ovi web site has not been amended it still suggests the maps are downloaded as files but it's now automatic. Set up the Maps facility under menu item GPS to get map data from your WiFi or mobile internet. You may need to enter IP, DNS etc for the home Wifi - I did but I've got a funny French router. Open Maps and select Find Places then enter a well known area you want maps for e.g. London UK. Once connected the E17 merrily downloads the map data - just cursor around to get data from different places - the map data is stored automatically on the memory card. I've got lots of the UK, France, Spain and Italy downloaded and used about 200Mb of the 2Gb card that comes with the E17. To find your specific maps easily put the cursor over a well known landmark and press the big button and select Save Place - you can then go straight to the location by selecting Favourites from the Maps menu. You can access the maps whilst off-line for using the Sat Nav in overseas countries without incurring massive download costs. The Sat Nav does take a bit of time to get the hang of. First thing set up your home location - your house, for example. Save the places you want to travel between in Favourites. Select Plan Route and add places on your route - it can be point to point or via a series of places. Save your route - the route is set up in the order you add the places. When you first use the Sat Nav you can download voice commands in different voices and levels of detail. I got this phone as a free upgrade it is great. Rating:
Reviewed by Samuel on 03/05/2010 After owning this phone for 6 months now i can say that i am far from impressed. Dont get me wrong in the 3 months, that it did work it was one of the best phones that i have ever had and believe me i have had a few. After having the phone for 3 months, (Which I always treated the phone with care and love) 9 keys have stopped working, making it very hard to send texts, etc... The unlock key, top left has also broken, and have had many problems with the messaging on the phone. If you are happy to have the phone for 3 months, and have more money then sense then by all means go for it. But for everyone else my advice is to stay away. If you are not bothered by the reviews, then why are you reading them? Rating:
Reviewed by will on 19/04/2010 The design of this phone is amazing, sleek and very good looking, feels gerat in your hands. The internet is rubbish on this phone, the wifi and the network (3), "no gateway reply". After the first couple of days i got really bored of this phone, good media player and everything but not much to do on the phone. the camera is 'ok'. The absoloute worst thing about this phone is the signal. I've had to have my phone have a signal check around my area, have a brand new sim, a brand new antenna, all updated software, its been repaired twice and still has awful signal. I found out in the end, because they told us, that is phone is renowned for having a bad signal. So no matter which network you go with this phone your pretty much gona have a bad signal, im now cancelling the contract as the last option and getting a new contract with the nokia n97 mini. I don't really recommend this phone. As a 15 year old its a bit to 'buisnessy' for me, some buisness users might consider having this phone but for me its a boring device. Rating:

Reviewed by Mary on 06/04/2010 I decided upon buying this phone because I loved Nokia and have been using them without complaint, for 15 years, which is why I decided against the Iphone and Blackberry. This Nokia however is a big disappointment. * Battery life is excellent * Keypad is workable and the phone is sleek - after that, it is a very average to poor phone. *Internet connection - very slow to load. It will log you out, if it has taken a long time to load - so when you eventually get to the page that you want, it will log you out and you have to start the whole process again. (Very annoying and frustrating, especially when you're trying to send an attachment to an email and the process has to be repeated many times to work). *Text messages are okay but it won't let you do simple tasks like, save a number that is sent as a text instead of a business card. *And just a brief mention that I had to send the phone back to the supplier after 2 weeks because it kept turning itself off - both when being used and when on standby. They did fix this and it has been okay since... My boyfriend has an Iphone and it is much superior (much to my dismay, he tried to convince me to get an Iphone before I bought the E71 and I hate it when he's right). The Iphone is more user friendly, the GPS system and maps (showing traffic jams etc) is fantastic and general internet and email functions are better overall. This isn't a plug for the Iphone - it's just much better phone, in my opinion. Hope this helps. Rating:

Reviewed by Monkeypolice on 27/01/2010 I'm generally very pleased with the E71 and it seems ideal for people like me who need to compose emails on the move. However the buttons get uncomfortable to press after a while and have caused slight rsi in my wrists - its not like I'm even writing a lot or too frequently either. I guess this is the problem with no touch-screen phones. The games don't seem to work too well but I don't think people are looking to play games if they choose this phone. On the plus side the phone seems to suffer from less problems than other nokia handsets and hasn't yet crashed (I've owned it for 1 year). Rating:

But the phone just keeps on going. This is my fist contract phone and I really like it. Battery life is fantastic. Regarding the keyboard, it might be small but it works well. I’m 6’ 5” tall with big hands but texting with this phone is simple. I’m coming to the end of my contract and I’ve been looking at other phones. The more I look the more I think I’ll just stick with the E71. It’s a good phone well worth getting. Rating:

Reviewed by Nick F on 22/12/2009 I am reading your E71 reviews and thinking "is it me". Mine is fine for email and mobile outlook integration, but as a phone, it is the worst I have ever used! If you are in anything but an A1 signal zone it is impossible to conduct a conversation. My previous Blackberry was fine at home and at the office, I now have zero coverage at either place. My 10 colleagues all have the same problem, so it is not a one-off. So, townies buy an E71, country boys & girls - check first! You have been warned Rating:

Reviewed by H A Cooper on 10/12/2009 Basically a good phone nice and small with sophisticated functions. On the downside text size on screen even when enlarged is very small which if you are long-sighted makes it difficult to read especially in dim areas. Battery life not too good will need charging nearly every day depending on use. Email functions are very good but it's not the iphone's major competitor - I'm going to swap it for that next month. Being unable to plug in decent headphones is irritating too. Nokia will get it right one day - can it be that difficult to match the technological expertise of Apple? Surely not!! Rating:
Reviewed by mike on 04/12/2009 I had this E71 for about three weeks now. What i really sorry about is it freezes at least once a day. I had over the past many years a lot of Nokia phones, even currently i own N85 (for about 6 months) and N73 (for the last 2 years), and non of them have such problem. It is really a great drawback for E71. I asked around and all my friends have the same problem as well. Even after upgrading the software. E71 is a solid phone with long battery life. For sure i would not recommend it. Sorry Nokia, I am really a loyal customer of your mobile phones but not with N71. Rating:

Reviewed by Phoenix on 30/10/2009 Ok, I have had this phone for less than 24 hours and I love it already! Infact I am actually writing this review and sending it from the phone! I was sceptical about getting a smart phone and hate the idea of a touch screen, so went for this one as I needed email on the move on a phone that's simple to use. I'm really pleased with how fast everything works, and although I thought I'd be compromising on the camera with a smart phone, the camera is not too bad at all. My only groan is that with such a clear high-res screen, its a shame that most menu icons are grey! Still, thats merely cosmetic! Well done Nokia! Rating:
Reviewed by Wotan on 30/10/2009 two blckberrys later this phone is excelent and better than the blackberry in many ways. The main one is the robustness of the track pad the failure of the trackball being the reason I came away from the BB. Conectivity simple and setting up multiple email accounts is easy, wifi works well what u have to watch is if u have wlan set to auto it will connect and then when u browse or email it will ask u to connect again and u dont need to so it reports an error, prob in the OS I guess but if u find it a pain there is an app on ovi called handy wifi that will sort it for u. Key pad looks small but it works really well and is quick and easy to use. Apps on ovi allow u to set up the google suite and then the phone becomes a really great tool. Not had the problems with the GPS detailed in one of the reviews but satalite location can be slow if you are in a poor coverage area. Battery life quite good for a Smart Phone and bluetooth connection to car sets excellent. Rating:

Screen is good and clear and since the firmware upgrade the camera has improved, using Youtube and Facebook is really easy to. Emailing is also simple to set up and use and very reliable, if you are having any problems with the E71 check for firmware updates go to your local nokia site and click on support then download the update software - it will help Rating:
Reviewed by Mark from Manchester on 14/10/2009 Congratulations! These phones have been given to everyone in my office, and I am pleased to announce that this has won the accolade of “The worst phone I have ever used in my life”. This is based on features like terrible email integration with Exchange, a keyboard designed for people who have fingers shaped like that of a pixie, application response times that make the original SPV on the first ever windows mobile device look fast, graphics on the home screen clock that are comparable to a BBC computer from 1985, a battery life which on standby lasts about as long as a viagra, and most importantly beeping every 10 mins for no reason at all, so that when you go to unlock the screen phone (which is again deigned to super fast pixies) there is no message at all. All in all if you want a large heavy phone, that will damage your productivity and state of mind, or want to buy a phone for someone you really hate, then go no further, this is the perfect phone. Reviewed by Patrick on 13/10/2009 Being very particular about my choice of phone (a lot of bad experiences over the years) I can honestly say that the E71 to date is by far the best phone I have owned. Reliability is, in my mind far superior to other phones on the market (excluding Apple, not had one) by a country mile, no hanging or crashing, just great. Battery power is phenomenal even with bluetooth switched on permanently. Although keys are small, they are pyramid shaped to help people with bigger fingers (providing they are not like sausages you should be ok). Reading other reviews, wireless seems to be an issue but I've not had a single problem in 7 months. In summary, there may well be better phones out there but you will not be disappointed with the E71, a superb all round phone. Rating:

Reviewed by Roy on 03/10/2009 Love my E71 to bits, it's my 4th Symbian phone, (Nokia N80, SE P1i, 5800 XM) lack of touchscreen is a non-issue. Only minor issue I've had is some overheating and crashing of the web browser, the SE P1i's keys were softer and easier to type on, and whoever thinks its ugly is in a minority, everyone I've showed it to is amazed by the thinness and the shiny metal casing. GPS is much more responsive than the 5800's, but I wouldn't use it as a music player/watching videos. Apps I run include Fring, Google Maps (street view is great), QuickOffice 6 (Free Upgrade, full editing) Mobbler, Qik, JoikuSpot Light, Frodo s60, Tweets60, Shozu, and Opera Mini 5 beta. The email works seamlessly with my gmail and hotmail inboxes. I hear the BB Bold has twice the screen pixels, but I bet it doesn't have the software range s60 has. Owning one will make you slightly guilty about having something so nice, and you feel sorry for everyone else. Rating:

What is the alternative? perhaps go back to the E61i which although is massive has never had any problems. Rating:
Reviewed by JohninNewForest on 20/09/2009 Damn it! I really should have looked before leaping into this phone. As a Mac user I'm sad to report that the E71 has become a disaster for me. It is just about possible to sync contacts with the Mac through the Mac's iSync program, but it's a very limited facility, and it's a fiddle. On the whole, I quite like the phone, but the ability to sync without messing around is fundamental to many users, and I'm one of them. How amazingly stupid stupid of Nokia NOT to supply a Mac version of PC suite with the phone. Sure, Macs are only 10% of the total computer market, but Mac users tend to be more clued up, and heads up, than PC users: just the sort who would go for the E71's abilities. I'm very cross with myself (clued up or not) for having bought the E71. Dammit! I should have bought the new iPhone, and just tolerated the God-awful battery life. Rating:
