It should be the best phone for me. Love the features, the design, how it fits my hand, the sound, a little slow, but I could live with that. But... To the bad things: 1) the signal reception is bad if you hold the top of the phone 2) the phone freezes a lot even with "normal" use (i.e. no 3rd party software, just sms, calls and camera) 3) the phone has such a bad bug, it can end up in trash: sometimes, it picks up the call and puts it on the speaker phone and then FREEZES. The only thing you can do is remove the battery 4) with the upgrade to the new software, the contacts are not recognised anymore :(((( (because Nokia mess up something) 5) there's more, but you get the idea So, what should be the best-ever phone for me, turned to be a real nightmare and worst of all, even if we (users of the E50) post in Nokia forums, nokia doesn't seem to care to fix this bugs and I have switched to Samsung. I would advise you do the same. So, look for these phones to buy if you want to sync with Mac: 1) Samsung D600 (my current phone - GREAT) 2) Samsung D900 3) Sony Ericssson K800i (many friends have it and are VERY satisfied). I didn't go for it, for I don't like the menus so much (Nokia guy from the beginning) Bottom line: DON'T BUY THIS PHONE!!!!!

Overall this is a good phone except following two problems: a) Nokia E50 phone hangs at times. When receives a new incomming call, the display freezes. One can still continue talking but unable to operate the phone as such. The only thing one has to do is to remove the batter for a while and replace it back. This is as good as Restarting Personal Computers. b) Few numbers are not recongnized although they are already stored in the phone directory. I tried saving them in all the possible formats but no success. I still have get to see as if its a new number calling me. Too bad at times specially the other person is special to you.

Had my E50 for 4 months and already on my 3rd one. Replaced twice because the speaker phone mode comes on for no reason when I answer a call and cannot be switched off. The phone also freezes and the only way to sort this is to remove the battery. The buttons are too small, the joystick is too fiddly. The font on the screen is too small. The caller display sometimes doesn't work.

I bought the E50 black metal two months ago. Battery life - about 2-4 days, pending on whether I talk for hours or for only 20 minutes a day. Fonts are small but there are two solutions to increase them - one uses a memory card on which you create a folder and put some bigger fonts (It works fine for me, I now also have 480 MB room on the microsd card for applications, music and photos), another one uses an application which can customize the font size. There are many applications that can be installed including for repetitive alarms, autolock for keypad etc. The phone has a speaker problem with the previous software - in rare occasions when a call was received, the phone automatically switched the speaker on and became unresponsive (thou you could continue the conversation) until you removed the battery. It happened to me once. I have updated the software to v07.13.0.0 which apparently solved the problem and I feel the phone is quicker too. The phone generates some heat when you speak about 10 minutes or so, like another user said. Overall I come to be satisfied with it (I use the aquablue theme from babinokia.com - very stylish), even though I wish it had a little better battery life and less heat for long talks. One user complained about the preferred icons which "are unchangeable" - he's wrong, they can be changed or even removed (my choice). The phone is well thought, you just need to get used to it.

Archaic, my MicroSD card is Sandisk 512 MB and is quickly accessible via the gallery - where I have over 100 photos. You have a card issue, not a phone issue. Fyg I used the 6.41 and use 7.13 software versions (check with *#0000#) no problems with the card access times.

Generally speaking, its a good phone. Impressive but not outstanding. I love symbian OS so bought it expecting all what they say. It has a few problems though. For example, once i turned on the speaker phone, the next call i couldnt turn it off. Battery time is ok, around 2 1/2 days. It has a camera but it doesnt mention anything like 1.3 MP and stuff,, so it luks kinda fake,, though quite good results. Sound quality is very good. I would rate it as a good buy.

The menu structure is too complicated, you don't seem to be able to get a non-bluetooth car kit for it and the camera is rubbish. Looks good though, shame you just can't use it.

At first i was a bit taken aback as i wasnt into nokia phones since i had a 7250i wich wasnt the phone for me. From there i had motorola A100(symbian), Then moved on to the Panasonic Vs6, another dissapointment. Then sony ericsson W810i. which is a good reliable phone with great walkman features. But i bought my Nokia E50 second hand on T-Mobile (No Camera)for £30. Its the best purchase i have done in years. The phone can be upgraded by adding other software titles, phone lock which makes it harder for anyone to look at your phone (like the girlfriend wants to see your msg,phonebook,etc... Which W810i,A1000 lacks Can only compare this phone with previous phone that i had! I have installed loads of applications on my E50 which has an humongous 70Mb internal memory. I can understand a lot of people that say theirs is dog poo, but i had a Panasonic VS6 now that i had replaced 5 times by carphone Wharehouse which kept giving me the same phone. Had to sell it to someone else to get some of my money back. Which is a shame as the E50 i have not once crashed and i had internal memory full at times. My mate saw my one and bought one himself which he hasnt had any problems either. As far as i am concerned there will always be problematic phones but i think is all down to phone software, which can usually be updated to newer and better. Theres a lot more i could carry on saying but read all the good reviews and forget the bad ones then you read what i would carry on writting. In general this the best phone i had in all my life, i feel it has been made for me. Thanks nokia, for not staying beyond S.E. this time

Only one thing annoys me the most: E50 takes eternity just to access the MicroSD card content via the Gallery menu. Note that i only load the E50 with a 512MB card. I hate waiting like 10 seconds just to access the Gallery/Images section. Plus, it takes another eternity just to load and display the images in the gallery. However, this problem does not occur when i only use the internal 70MB memory. Accessing the phone 70MB internal memory is a breeze. Either Nokia engineer has that media-speed-transfer-bandwidth problem or the card itself is the problem. The card manufacturer is PNY Technologies.

Good points: The handset is small and looks quite sleek. Bad points: It's unuseable - just a few examples: The text is too small to read and the size cannot be changed. It requires about ten keystrokes in order to do a basic function like send a text message or add a number to the directory. If it is possible to set up your own shortcuts, I can't see how, and the user guide does not help. Every time I access the camera, it comes up with an error message to say it can't access the memory card - well, not surprising really as it didn't come with one. Overall this is by far the worst Nokia handset I've ever had.

This phone is too slow. Everything takes ages. You've got to keep an eye on it to see whether or not it has kept up with you. And the user interface is dreadful. It takes more presses on the fiddly, slippery buttons than seem reasonable. I have had more Nokia phones than I care to remember and every one has been a small improvement on the last, but this one drags nokia down to the gutter - it is a complete dog.

Hit the shortcut button for New SMS and NOTHING happens for 2 seconds. Then the various screen elements are drawn one at a time, like it has a 0.0001mhz processor in it. For a device that's fast enough to play video, how can drawing an SMS input screen possibly take so long? It's my own stupid fault for not reading the specs properly before ordering it. I wouldn't have got it if I'd known it was a smartphone because all I do is voice and text. Couldn't care less about internet or email or media players or telescopes or lasers or time travel or all that other rubbish. On the plus side... it's well built and slim. reception has been ok for me. battery life IS good. also it's the same battery as my last phone which is handy.

This phone is poor. I have it as a business mobile. There are 3 of us in my company with this phone and we have all experienced the same problems. The phone constantly freezes. The phone has a good body armor that protects it. Shame really as if it breaks into millions of pieces I can get a new one. It is also very poor when used with a car kit. It keeps cutting off my radio and the sound is poor. This has never happened with other phones used in conjunction with my car kit. The phone also gets extremely hot when you are on it for a while. You get one mighty red ear from it!! Don't bother with this phone.

Clearly, judging by these reviews, not a phone for everyone. I certainly did my homework before going for a replacement for my excellent but dated 6310i, and finally I bought one of these, a few months ago. I find it to be almost perfect and exactly what I wanted: it's a very capable phone first, and only after that it is a PIM (personal information manager) too, but I quite good one also. Sturdy, sleek, reliable, well thought up and sort out, it's a demanding man's dream.

I got this phone for work. As other users have commented, the network reception (even though it indicates as "full" on the phone) can on occasions be very poor, and this is out in the open air in London, so it's not like I'm calling from some god-forgotten village in the middle of nowhere. There have also been problems with echos. The font size is a bit small and it's hard to see when you have an appointment booked in a calender (light green arrow in bottom corner of that particular day...why just not make the whole day in bold font as to make it more visible?!). However it looks good and came with Adobe so I have the congestion charge zone and tube map just a few finger tips away (I couldn't do that with my ericsson).

The E50. Well, there aren't many about but I like it. I bought the phone for two reasons:- i. becuase it had a car kit that would give an external aerial and charge the battery ii. because the display's a decent size and as the phone has bluetooth and runs S60 I was able to get the Navicore satnav software for it and use my bluetooth GPS receiver Surprisingly the buttons aren't too small, the user interface is akin to all new nokias, and the battery life is far better than my 6230i. Running v.6.41.3.0 firmware the phone's only frozen twice - both times while using the satnav software.

I've been a NOKIA guy since 1996, but E50 is the perfect reason to change my opinion. I am using my phones professionally, and therefore I have quite many contacts (more than 600). That's why I chose the "professional series" E50 to be my next phone. I copied the very same contacts from the phones I currently use (NOKIA 6600, NOKIA 3230) to my E50. When I tried to use my new phone I immediately noticed that there is a problem with the contacts. To be specific, it takes ages for the phone to change from one letter to another when multi-pressing a key to write a letter. For example, if you want to write "s", you press four times the <7>. It takes the phone at least 1-1,5 seconds to change from to , the same time from to , 1-1,5 secs from to , and so on. If you stop and wait for the phone to change from one letter to the next one (and see it on the screen), the cursor forwards one position, waiting wor you to press the next letter. This issue makes the phone practicaly nsusable !!!

I bought the Nokia E 50 Black Metal 2 Months ago. I am truely pleased with it. It is a great phone. It has everything that a PHONE needs. No , it does not have 3.2MP Cybershot camera , no , it has not got the Walkman theme all around it , so what ? If you want good quality music , buy an iPOD , if you want good quality photos , get yourself a digital camera. People tend to mix these three items. And it is very wrong. Yes , i get the idea , they want to have an 3 in 1 device which takes all the tasks neccesary for someones daily life. Ok , i understand that. If you want Multimedia, aim for the fresh N95. BUT, you can forget the 6.8h of talk-time , you can say goodbye to a good PHONE , and I can assure you , you will not be satisfied as you think you will be when you buy the phone. If you want to spend money wisely , on a PHONE , again i repeat myself, then get yourself a , so called , BuissnesPhone. For exemple , the traditional , maybe legendary 6310i , why do you think has got the first 5 position's in every magazine's top around the world, becouse that's what people are looking for , a good quality , efficient phone , not some low battery , over fulled with UNNECCESARY Features , and mind bugging device. That's what i had to say. Think twice before you purchase a new device you intend to use as a phone , and think again , what exactly you need it for.
