Reviewed by Funky on 26/02/2010 I have had my Nokia 6500 slide for 7mths. I was happy with it at 1st, but then it started turning itself off & the battery life was awful. I had a replacement phone delivered (after quite a few attempts), which was a recon one. I had to send that back 'cos it wouldn't pair with my hands free kit. I then waited another 3 days for ANOTHER recon one which seems to be behaving itself - so far!! I would NEVER have another one - well Orange don't even do them anymore cos their so old!! Rating:

Reviewed by Cliff on 18/02/2010 i've had this phone for 2 years and found this a good phone, the only problem I have had has been with the sound quality after I dropped it - which was fixed that night by tightenning 2 screws at the rear of the screen on the slidey part. Battery lasts about a week between charges (light user) and I love how easy it is to send texts from it. Always had Nokias for the last 10 years and resisting pressure to change manufacturers. Reviewed by Roshan on 17/02/2010 Going on 2 years with this phone and still very happy. Solid product which does exactly what it's asked to do without complaining or giving up. I've even dropped it in the loo and it lived to tell the tale. Battery life starting to evaporate, but that's to be expected. A bit old-fashioned in these touchscreen times, but has a charm about it. Reviewed by Monty Python on 11/02/2010 Compared to others who have submitted reviews on here, maybe I got lucky with my 6500 slide but I’ve had very few problems with it over the 2 years I have owned it on an orange contract. I had an issue with the background wallpaper going blank which was solved by a firmware update which I did myself. Battery life with normal use seems to average about four days which for me is perfectly acceptable considering the functionality. It pairs up with my cars Bluetooth no problem and clarity on calls has been excellent. The Camera quality is good for snapshots and is perfectly acceptable and miles ahead of a Sony Ericsson that I had owned previously in this regard. The phone also seems to hold onto a signal very well even in patchy reception areas and apart from fluff and muck getting behind the battery door too easily, the build quality also gets a thumbs up from me. I also enjoy the weight of the phone, as it is nice to know I have the phone in my pocket. I moved to this phone from an all bells and whistles HTC sliding front smart phone which was bug ridden piece of junk compared to this Nokia. The HTC totally died after only a year of use so I decided to go back to basics at contract renewal time, and I haven’t once regretted it since or missed any of the smart phone functions. I was honest with myself and realised that I didn’t need or use most of the smart phone functionality and the 6500 slide has been a faithful companion. So much so that now my contract is up for renewal, I am not sure what to get that will compare in terms of build quality, looks (love the brushed aluminium) and reliability... suggestions are welcome. Reviewed by Yiannis on 10/01/2010 Have this phone for 16 months now. During that period i came upon the following problems, the first 4 of them, as i noticed, is common to most owners: 1. Speaker broke down. Took it for a fix and said i broke it, possibly by a drop and paid 35 euros for replacement (of the speaker). Yet, even after replacement, the speaker sounder as bad as before the "fixing"; you could hear the person on the other line as it was speaking in the background. 2. Screen faded some times showing weird colours for a sec or two. 3. Battery's life too short. 4. Restarts some times. 5. The screen just "burned out" a few months ago so i had it replaced with a new one (65 euros). This is the worse mobile phone i ever had!! Rating:

It ahs been sent to be repaired 2 times and now completely refuses to even switch on so I am using my husbands identical phone with my sim card and even his phone is crap: Some of the faults are: 1.switches off for no reason 2.Poor battery life 3.Speaker stops working intermittently and I ahve to speak on the phone using the speakerphone 4.People sound like a dalek when you do get speaker to work 5.Screen savers and wallpapers disappear without warning 6. when text messaging using pre-emptive text it decides to add letters in words from buttons you are not even pressing. 7. Video quality very poor I could go on more but I will run out of breath. Only good thing about phone is the camera is quick and quite good quality. BTW 3g will not give you a replacement handset when this goes wrong so I ahve had to BUY, yes, BUY a pay as go to use when I ahve sent it off for repairs. Coverage in my area not bad though. I am hugely disappointed with it as it has started to play up and I have never had a Nokia that is so unreliable as the 6500 slide. I would not recommend this phone to anyone and can't wait for my contract to end with my current provider so I can get shot of such an awful mobile phone. The battery is rubbish and I have to charge the phone every day even if I don't use it very much, the screen has started playing up, the internet freezes, you have to wait ages sometimes to erase letters in texts you are writing and overall it has a very slow response to all applications. Yeay!!!! :/ Took to Carphone Warehouse, who said this would not be covered by warranty. It also used to turn itself off randomly and occasionally run out of battery after a couple of hours of charging when it had said the battery was full. If I'd have taken out insurance for the last four months at £6.99 I'd have spent £28 on a replacement. For that price I can get a similarly lame phone on Ebay that supports 3 anyway, so I'm glad I didn't since, however funky this model may look, it's rubbish! Reviewed by Al Wood on 12-11-2009 Have had this phone for a year now. Usability wasnt bad. I had a little samsung previously, which i loved as it was so easy to use, never had any problems with it and it seemed to be indestructable. Within a month of owning the much higher spec nokia i was missing the samsung. The back of the nokia stopped fitting properly, the camera didnt seem to be as good, and there were little nigley things, like not being able to set multiple alarms. The battery didnt last as long, but i was expecting that as it does a lot more than the samsung. I get 1 to 2 days out of it now, but im not a heavy user. I always had problems getting a decent signal, even when people with me, on the same network, were getting a full signal. When the signal was bad i would only get about 7 hours about of the battery. But about 2 months ago things got much worse. I get voicemail alerts instead of txts, it switches itself off, freezes, the memory dissappears. Apparently, these are all known software problems. I'm sending the phone off to get updates, but i friend of mine also got this phone around the same time as me, she had problems with hers after about 6 months, she sent it off to be repaired twice and it wasnt any better when she got it back. So beware, its not the worst phone i've owned, but i wouldnt recommend this one, and i'm put off getting a nokia again. Rating:

I can't delete more than 40message because everytime i do it crashes then won't turn off or do anything i take the battery out of it then it it won't turn back on for at least an hour without functioning properly! I can't get onto my message or send messages for about an hour after its stopped crashing it just says 'Message storage is not ready' or something along those lines! Its the worst phone ever! I fixed this with a little bit of blutak in the back *not recommending it as my phone started getting really hot and may have been damaged by this in the long term* 2) Some of the songs become locked and are unable to be played. this was only a few songs and didnt really effect me but i can imagine it getting quite annoying BUT with a quick google search i found how to unblock all songs with a few texts to your provider w/e. anyway a brilliant phone after I "Fixed It" and would quickley recommend to anyone Rating:

Since my negative post in August, the phone was properly repaired in Bratislava, SK and the battery life has jumped from 12 hours to 5 days. They replaced some part which the salesperson at orange coudn't explain, and since then the phone has worked properly. The back cover came back from service with a bigger gap than when I sent it out, but I finally gave up and folded it around myself so that I have minimal gaps all around. A colleague at work bought the same phone a month after I did and her phone had minimal back cover gap. Maybe my phone was a Monday product... The camera is good, with limitations in low light, but I have still managed to make excellent photos in low light as long as the subject is stationary. signal strength is as good as any other phone I have had. I haven't had any problems with the phone freezing up. I bought this phone because I don't like touch screen models. I had an LG in my hands which was slow as anything and didn"t come with any cables as standard for the same price as the nokia. So, I retract my 1 star rating and give it a 4. Rating:

Reviewed by hbs on 28/09/2009 Nokia 6500 Slide. I had 2 problems the other day, I looked them both up online and found forums discussing them both. I have since found the answers, but now I can't find the same forums again to post them! So I'm putting it here in case it helps someone searching! I read that there is no settings option to turn off the CAMERA SHUTTER SOUND on the Nokia 6500 slide (due to 'privacy' laws). Not true. This IS in the settings menu, but the camera settings menu (under options in camera mode) looks like it only has 4 items on the menu, but you CONTINUE to scroll down ans it has the shutter sound on/off option. Secondly, this phone software had the annoying tendency to RE-USE IMAGE NUMBERS after you have deleted photos. This means if you transferred pictures to your PC, then deleted them from your phone, any new pictures taken would be given the same numbers again, so next time you try to transfer photos it would say 'this image already exists' and you would have to manually re-name them if you wanted them saved off into the same folder. I had to order a replacement handset recently, due to damage, and the new one has recent software improvements with this problem now remedied so that images numbering ascends, regardless of deletions. From day one it freezes randomly, won't call, won't hang up, won't let me view messages, won't let me listen to music, gets really warm when it's on messenger and stops working, goes from full battery to none in about 10 mins so you run out of charge even though you thought you were ok. The worst part is that I have not been allowed to cancel my contract, and I have been repeatedly unable to get it fixed for a number of excuses ranging from the 3 store having no loan phones to me not having the correct proof of purchase (which I was never given in the first place). Her one kept freezing, wouldn't turn off, wouldn't connect to the bluetooth headset, and other little annoying things like freezing when you are writing a text, then the whole line appearing after 10 seconds. But, as I said at the start, that my phone has been no problem at all and I love it. It seems that if you read the reviews on a lot of mobiles (as I have been doing lately!) in search of a new mobile, that a lot of people say the same things about other makes of phones, but then other people say that the same phone is rubbish and not to buy it! It does seem that its the luck of the draw weather or not you get a decent phone. Reviewed by Tammy on 06/06/2009 This phone is the worse phone I have ever owned in my life(out of 7!) Originally I thought it was durable, nice shiny, sleek & a good all round Nokia. The battery is my first complaint- I use the phone for occasional calls & some up to 20 texts per day & can never get more than 2 days battery life out of the damn thing. The battery indicator will show low- you will get the 'low battery' message once & then it turns itself bloody off- no warning! When you then try put it on charge, it takes a few attempts for the charger pin to be recognised for it to start charging. The screen has days when it just shorts out- very annoying when you are mid text message & have to start again! When you are about to recieve a message, the phone makes a low pitch echo noise proior to the message notification, very weird. Also, there are days when no matter what signal strength I have message just fail to get sent. This has to be remedied by turning the phone on & off a few times- whats that all about? I have set up the 'personalised' settings for certain callers- the phone keeps resetting itself to the default tones no matter how I do this-quite frustrating when you identify a caller by a different tone to others! The ring tones are outdated for a phone of this age, the message & other tones are also poor selection. The camera is good quality if you can figure out where your photos actually go after they have disapeared off the 'review' screen. Having to use it landscape always to get the best photo is also annoying. I have had this phone back to the shop for fixing on all the faults & suprise suprise- the age old 'no fault could be found' story! I am very disapointed in this Nokia phone. I changed from Nokia to Samsung 4 years ago when no hansets were available on the deal I wanted & will be going right back to Samsung as soon as my contract allows! Rating:

They told me right at beginning that there was big software problem with this phone. For some reason it kept locking up so you couldnt do anything with it, not even re-install software so it had to go away. On the occasions where they returned phone to me "fixed" it died again within hours of receiving it. Luckily the last one I received has been fine for few months now apart from nuking my memory card. The keypad is difficult to use as so shiny my fingers just slip and buttons dont press easily. It has great features, the camera is the best quality I have seen on a phone (Thanks to the lense - Megapixels aren't everything!) and the speaker is pretty good quality. The bad points far outweigh the good points however. The first day I got it I noticed the signal was terrible, I took it back to the shop where I got it, and it turns out it needed a software update. They sent me off to another shop to do this, where they kept it overnight. They also put on the wrong phones software, so had to do it again at a later date. The battery life is aweful, it lasts a day or two at most, and far less if you go on the internet or use any of the features!! The phone is forever crashing, freezing and reseting itself. I can't take photos, compose messages or surf the internet without it freezing, and having to restart the phone. This is particularly annoying since it takes so long to restart. I am having constant memory card issues too, sometimes it just says it isn't there, other times I will be browsing the card, and it will just exit. There is also a problem with the camera and the memory card, each time I start the camera it asks me to save to phone, I press no, and it asks me to format the card. I have formatted the card several times, but it has not helped. Overall I would say to stay away from this phone - some work, others don't. My house mate has had no problems with his at all. You would be better off getting a Sony Ericsson. Rating:
Reviewed by Johnathan De Mcroy on 18/05/2009 The best mobile phone i've ever owned, Everything about is just pefect, i used to have a Samsung G800, but this phone wipes the floor with that, fantastic battery life, one of the main things that i like about it, is that you can set the text message tone to what ever you want, whatever you put on the phone, plays music pefect, you can also make it loud with stereo widening, fantastic signal, it's a bit heavy, but then you know it's in your pocket and that you haven't lost it, too many light flimsy phones about these days, it's packed with everything that you could want. THE BEST FEATURE THOUGH IS AS FOLLOWS, it's the voice texts, you go to text to send one, then you can record up to a 3.04 minute voice recording add it to the blank text and send it, when the person at the other end opens the text it plays them your spoken text, and the cost is only the price of a single text, so instead of putting what you want to say into about 6 texts, and it costing you 6 texts , you speak and send and it costs you 1 text, and the person knows how to take the text by the tone of your voice, as we all know some texts can be taken the wrong way. My ex-wife hates the sound of my voice, but when i need to text her to ask if she wants anything to do with the children (I HAVE FULL COSTODY, NOT HER), my voice really annoys here, but you can't tell whether it's a voice text or a text text, until you open it, and the phone starts speaking to you, lol. Reviewed by Emma Heath on 16/05/2009 Awful phone! This handset has put me off Nokia completely, since purchasing the phone has had faults and they have only got worse. It is incredibly slow when deleting or moving or opening files, even text messages, and it is rather heavy and doesnt slide easily. On top of this, the memory card decides to erase itself at random moments, causing all files saved on it to temporarily disappear - irritating when listening to music or looking through photos. There is no picture editor, just setting to change the contrast and even then you cannot save it. The voice clarity is terrible and eventually mine did not regester that i was on the phone to someone, and would hang up randomly. After a while, text messaging started to ecome a pain as the letters wouldnt show up till 20 seconds after typing them. For saying it's a simple, dull phone, I would have expected the main features to work well. Definatley a disappointment - do not buy this! Rating:
Reviewed by Lucia on 16/05/2009 Have had this phone for 15 months now and absolutely love it. Orange has just offered to upgrade it to 5800 express music which should in theory be more advanced. Having had tried 5800, it made me appreciate how great 6500 slide was (still is). Camera is superb, even pictires taken in dark conditions or with flash are clear and have great color. Menu is much better than 5800 as well: fewer steps, makes more sense, more options, pretty much everything can be customised. Has nice emoticons - how comes 5800 doesn't have any? Fm radio... The design is great, and very solid, have dropped it a few times and aside from the tiny scratches, no problem. The only minus is the main button which peeled rather quickly, it's just a detail, though. I like 6500 so much that I am tempted to get another, newer one (they have bigger memory now) instead of an upgrade. That issue has been repaired BUT the ONGOING FAULT is that calls drop, text messages don't go through and reception goes down for absolutely ages. When I brought it to Carphone Warehouse that was supposed to have been sorted with a software upgrade.... no such luck. Wrote to 3 as i'm still locked into a 18 month contract and paying for a phone which is unreiliable. Apparently they know of this fault and have said both issues are common faults with the Nokia 6500 Slide. Reviewed by Richard Chappell on 23/03/2009 I have had a 6500 slide for a little over 15 months and am glad that I am getting close to the time when I can get a new phone. Don't get me wrong, it's features are superb, the camera is excellent, its web-and-walk speed is amazing and its ease of use is brilliant, when it works. That however, is the relevant phrase. It is its general unreliability that has made me curse the day I got it. So far. It has locked up 3 times necessitating replacement. All have shown a tendency to reset themselves at the most inconvenient of moments, usually mid way through call. The display is prone to flicker and total failure on all of them. Yes, as mentioned the battery life is not brilliant, not something I have ever noticed to be honest as mine doubles up as an MP3 player for the commute to and from work along with surfing the net on it during breaks so it is charged every night. right now, it is suffering from a total failure of the 1, 4 and 7 keys! The Keylock would kick in halfway thru writing a text and to top it all off the fourth and fifth reset themselves so lost all my settings, Orange have now agreed to change for a different model till my contract runs out so I am now going to have to have a Samsung again... Reviewed by Dean on 15/03/2009 I've had this phone since Summer 2008 and on the whole, its not a bad handset. The battery life is decent as is the camera and in black, I think it looks rather smart too. The menu system is easy to understand and you can personalise enough of it to your liking, creating shortcuts to your most used functions and so on. Some criticisms though - the predictive text function is appalling and seems to forget words you have stored after a short period of time, this also seems to go for the ringtone you've selected - it reverts to the default one as it pleases. Whilst generally this feels like a durable handset, slightly heavy but not unacceptably so, the battery cover could do with another clip as too much dust is getting in. I'm stuck with this handset until Xmas 2009 and have little doubt that it'll still be working then. But I expect that i'll have reset my ringtone and re-entered words on predictive text a dozen times in the meantime! Three out of five seems fair. Rating:

When I first got it, I had to have it replaced three times becuase of all the faults, I eventually gave up returning it to the shop becuase it took days for them to replace the phone and in the mean time left me phoneless. The one thing I'll say about it, is it has a great camera. The screen is nice and big, the buttons are great for texting and the speaker if good as well HOWEVER, the battry is useless. Even if I charge my phone the whole night, the next day by 5pm the battrey is flat. Now I have to admit that I do use my phone quite a bit to go onto Facebook, but isnt that what it's for ? I mean what the point of adding a feature that you cant use. Also when i put in my 2GB memory card in and half filled it with songs, it rendered the phone useless becuase it froze so much. Again, whats the point ? Overall it's a nice phone, very bloke-ish though. I wouldnt recommend it to anyone purely becuase of the battrey life thing. Rating:

Mine was awful but I spoke to my servie provider who suggested turning off the 3G function if I wasn't using it. Reviewed by Ian on 20/02/2009 i bought this phone about 6 months ago now and i have to say it is one of the worst phones ever made. the bugs with this phone are endless! For starters the battery life only really lasts just over a day (maybe 2 if you are lucky) even when it is hardly being used which is pretty poor. Also, i dont know whether its the fact that im on 3 but the signal i recieve is messed up because at times ill have the phone sitting in exactly the same place and it will have full signal strength but then randomly it decides to have none at all and will not regain any signal for a good couple of hours or so (but you can bypass this by turning the phone off and on). The phone also resets your ring tone and background to it default at random times which is really odd. When you have music on the phone and you go into the music player and then bring up the list of artists, it will have a message appear every now and then saying searching for files (or something similar) and will be constantly searching for a good 5mins or so. There is one plus though, the camera is of a high standard. Overall though, the software on this phone has been badly put together unfortanately as this phone could have been good. Rating:

Reviewed by Paul on 02/02/2009 The 6500 slide has excellent build quality. The slide mechanism is silky smooth and it feels great in my hands. The weight is not so much of an issue since I have had heavier phones in the past. The screen is not overly bright which I appreciate since it does not cause me eyestrain. Also in bright sunlight the screen is completely readable. The screen resolution is excellent. The keypad is also very nice and combined with the external keys and customisation options the phone is very accesible. I have mine setup to reduce the number of times I have to slide it open. The camera is lovely for daytime pictures and does not perform terribly on close up night shots in the dark. For what it is, I believe its an extremely good camera. The battery life is not so good however as with any multi use device powered by a battery, the life depends on how many functions you intend to use and over what period. Talking on the phone takes the most power but just as a tip, try not to touch the antenna located at the bottom of the phone during calls as this causes the phone to use more power. The software is fast and reliable (the lastest update that is) and has given no problems whatsoever. My one gripe is that coming from a SE K550i the options for looking through pictures on the phone are a bit limited however that is a minor gripe. Overall the phone fits my needs quite aptly and its two most important uses are excellent. Texting is simple and fast and calls are loud and clear. Also with respect to calls, the voice clarity feature actually does work. Rating:

I've used it extensively for 2-weeks. It is mostly good, although I get a better signal on my very old Nokia 6230i. Battery life is okay, but again not as good as my old 6230i. I have experienced some occasional'freezing' in various applications, but if I wait a couple of seconds, this seems to free up and the phone works fine again. I'm not overly happy with the handsfree speaker quality, and a normal headphone connection rather than the small pin would have been better - but these are minor points. The number '6' key stuck a little to begin with, but with use this has now resolved. I'm happier with this phone than the Nokia 6300 (which I had previously and found very unreliable, even after having 4 exchanges!), but if I could get a new 6230i I'd pick this any day. On the whole the 6500 is reliable, looks fab, is easy to use and has a lot of features. Rating:

Not huge like some of Nokia's slides are, lovely clear screen, battery life seems to be very good compared to my last phone which needed charging every other day. This one can last up to 5 days with frequent use! Has a really good quality feel, and scratch-resistant case. If you want the handset only, try and get it second-hand from a reputable phone shop, which is not only cheaper, but they usually check your model out properly to make sure it doesn't have any faults, and issue a guarantee. The switch is intact but with the rear cover on the memory card constantly deactivates/ activates often causing the phone to crash. I have complained for the forth time and they have finally sent me a different model the 6600 slide. Reviewed by dissapointed on 05/11/2008 hi ive had my nokia 6500 slide for a about 3 months now and am quite frustrated by it. The phone is extremely sesitive to moisture, this often causes damage to the inside of the phone and it decides not to turn on anymore. The phone also has some faults apart from the frequent freezing and lagging the most significant being the design of the memory/sim card reading, if there is any damage to the back cover even the slightest bending it fails to make contact with a tiny metal piece next to the camera lens which doesnt allow the phone to read or detect any cards. i strongly suggest you dont purchase this phone unless you want a phone that doesnt turn on anymore after it has rained ( if you take it outside, not when its raining oviously after rain is gone and there is moisture in air ). But apart from that the phone is actually really good shame everyones will eventually breakdown. Rating:

I chose it because I'd just bought an SLR camera and wanted something I could slip into my pocket when I didn't fancy taking the big camera with me but still wanted to take pictures. Although I quite like the phone (love its chunkiness and solidity, like the way it looks and it performs perfectly well as a phone), it's disappointed me on two counts. 1) the camera is ok but the display isn't bright enough so I never know quite what shot I'm taking until I get into the shade. 2) it's been malfunctioning. The memory card is invisible unless I press on the side of the phone (!) I took it back to the shop and they sent it for repair but it came back with the same issue. I have had this phone a few weeks now and I can assure all of you people that love nokia that this is a good choice! I have had a number of phones and Nokia still has the easiest layout and Text messaging. The photos are fanatastic for a 3.2 mp, I wouldn't pay the extra £200 for the N95 just so you can have a 5mp because to be honest its not worth the money plus this is smoother and smaller!!! The battery life is average, I mean if its on standby or calling it will last the day, if you use all the features on the same day i.e camera, video, mp3, radio and amke tonnes of calls the battery does deplete rather rapidly which is one thing Nokia could improve!!!! Better battery, but except all that its an average battery with a good calling length!! Most people need to let the battery completely charge and on the first few times let it die, this is an improtant process in expanding the battery. The sound is good with and without headphones, buttons very smooth. One major downer tho ugh is the quality of the phone call, the ear speaker is quite muted and can be very annoying but the headset soon retifys that or loudspeaker!!! Overall a very good hpone for the price bracket with lots of features to keep one busy ; ) Rating:

Reviewed by Sazzle on 17/09/2008 This is the worst phone I have ever had (if I still had it that is and it had not come back from repair beyond repair) and it has made me lose my faith in mobile phone companies and how phones these days are made. I had the phone for two months and had nothing but problems with it from word go. I think it must have been riddled with bugs. Firstly it was frequently switching itself off (which I have read to be a common problem) - getting the death screen. I had problems with the back not fitting properly and it not recognising the memory card. I had the problem of it reverting to the nokia tune after having customised to your own. I had my previous old Nokia for seven years, it had seen loads of everyday wear and tear - what have they done to these phones that they will only last a couple of months? Finally the phone got sent for repair as the death screen would not disappear and they declared it unrepairable due to liquid contamination - if this was the case I know it was from something like steam from a kettle in the kitchen or perspiration because I did not immerse the phone in water, nor dropped it in a puddle, nor spilt anything on it, nor had it out in the rain in the short time I had it. In my opinion phones should be made to withstand perspiration, steam residue, moisture (although they should not obviously be dropped in/immersed in water) - there was a time when they were. A mobile phone is supposed to be useable, this handset is useless and has nothing useable about it and now I have been fobbed off with an excuse that voids my warranty. Trust I will never buy a Nokia again. Not sure who to trust now though. Rating:

The screen i also found is very weak, i had to get it replaced twice as its cracked when it was literally in my bag with my purse in... hardly a brick or whatever! I then had a problem with the security settings for some reason it did not register the default password even though i had not changed it. when i went to the three shop the man suggested moving everthing on my sim and memory card so i could wipe my phone.., BIG MISTAKE!!...when all my contacts, pictures, music etc were on my sim and memory card my phone packed in, when i got a text and call it only showd the number even though it was saved in my phone book under a name, i couldnt add names or move them back to my phone memory. WHen i went to the shop they wanted to send my phone away for repair but as it had been done before and wasnt workin any better i managed to make them get me a new one (as i was insured) within 4 days of the new one...the screen cracked and this time it wont let me change ring styles, text tones or any of the settings, it always wants to use the default ones. I really wouldnt moan so much if i could just keep gettin it repaired or replaced, the only problem is every time i claim on my insurance its £30 excess... so... to sum up...this fone is rubbish, dont get the carphone warehouse insurence... dont get a carphone warehouse phone and dont use the 3 network... if you do get it from a 3 shop! Reviewed by Marc on 31/08/2008 After a contract and handset upgrade with 3, I opted for the great looking and well featured Nokia 6500 Slide. Oh what a mistake to make. The handset arrived on Thursday and several faults were immediately apparant. After charging the phone fully and uploading some music and wallpapers to the memory card, I set a new wallpaper only to find that even the slightest pressure to the battery cover, such as removing the cover or even just putting it in your pocket, causes it to revert back to it's default wallpaper. So I ignore the wallpaper issue and try the media player. The sound is amazing, as good if not better than my MP3 player. Then, at the end of the first track, it stops. *shrug* No big deal, select the next track and press play again. Again, at the end of the track, it stops. Open the slide to select the next track and the phone has frozen. Battery out, turn it back on, only to find the battery life is now at 50%... HOW??? Put it back on charge and stop messing with it, it's just a phone after all. Made and took a few calls over the next day and have to say the network signal was good and the call audio was very clear, but again, the battery life is down to 50% after very little use which I convinced myself would improve as the battery got used to it's charge/discharge cycles. It's a good looking handset with a quality feel to its design and build, especially with the use of stainless steel parts and a smooth slide mechanism. Saturday, get a text from Nokia stating that there is a much needed software upgrade for my handset. Great, could this be the answer to all my problems? Go to the Nokia site, download the new software, connect the phone, upload the new software to the handset......... and nothing. Half way through the upload, the phone crashes yet again just at the point where the eeprom appears to have been wiped, and now I have a dead handset that at the moment is the most expensive 3-colour LED available, as all that works is the lighting behind the front 4 buttons. Monday it's off to the Nokia Centre to be looked at before it gets thrown at a wall. In it's defense, it's a good weight and should fly well... Rating:

I'm a great fan of Sony Ericsson phones and normally wouldn't even look at a Nokia phone but my whole family rave about how Nokia is fantastic and thought let me go with this as it's new and the other SE phones that they offered came with 2mp camera or was an old model and I already had the K800i (which in my opinion is the BEST EVER MOBILE!!). 3 months down the line, I wish I just went for another K800i or the K770i, old model or not or even the W880i or W910i. The Nokia 6500 slide just looks good and the camera quality is good but that's just about it. It is a fiddly phone that will make you want to pull out your hair, throw it down and drive a steam roller over it. It gets hot very quickly ,when talking and battery life isn't all it's cracked up to be. I use the calender function quite a lot and the alarm function. The annoying thing about it was the layout as well as the fact that you can't edit entries in the past. Change the time and date in setting and all your appointments, meetings and reminders change and you cannot go back to the calender entries and change them to correct time once the date has passed. It also has only 1 alarm, whereas the SE K800i and all SE phones come with at least 5 and you can name the alarm to whatever reminder you want and set it to come on. The music player is fiddly. Adding media to a playlist is difficult. Getting the playlist to play is another hassle. You have to use the pc suite to make a playlist and add files on it. In the end, I just stopped using the phone as an mp3. Another bad point of this phone was that you could not set up your own voice tag nor can you enable the voice tag that came with it, a computerized voice that sounds very much like Stephen Hawking. All in all, I HATE THIS PHONE!!! I give it 1 star only for the camera quality. Rating:

I'm now 2 days into the ownership of my SECOND Nokia 6500 Side [which replaced my first, faulty one] and this too has a frustrating fault! I took possession of the first one in Feb or March and persisted with it's peculiar behaviour until I could take it no more. What's all this hype in the Nokia 'blurb' about "6 hours talktime" and 320 hours standby? - Rubbish! - I was having to put it on charge every other day [or risk being left with a dead mobile] even when I didn't use it! It then developed a sqeaky, inaudible speaker function so I returned it to Carphone Warehouse and, true to their word, they replaced it very quickly - with one that has an even more annoying fault - [the screen simply disappears randomly]! trouble is, when I went back to CW I couldn't get it to replicate the problem! [It's too intermittent as I said] AND of course it went on the blink as soon as I got home! When the first replacement was ordered I got to keep hold of 'Squeaky' until the newby arrived but now they [C. Warehouse] want to leave me without a phone until another replacement arrives which could be days. Lots of consistency there then! Rating:

I have not, so far, had any of the software crashes or battery life issues mentioned by others, and it accepted a cheap 4GB card with no problem at all. The only small gripes I have so far are 1) the case does not fit together properly, which may affect the longevity of the phone, and 2) the quality of the sound from the speaker isn't as good as other Nokia phones I've heard, although it is acceptable. All in all, I'm extremely satisfied with the phone so far, and would certainly recommend it. (Here's hoping this lasts as long as my K750i!) Rating:

This is the third Nokia I've owned and it's the same problems over and over again...I know that is pretty much bad luck and not everyone will be experiencing the same problems as me, but seriously do Nokia not have any quality control for their products, all the Nokias I have owned, after about 1-2 months just become riddled with one problem after another, after another. Although my last phone was the sony ericsson k800i and that was the king of chunk so i guess so i'm used to it. However it feels good in the hand and i prefer this to flimsy and fragile phones so NO problem there. A very dodgy start, when inserting a 2GB memory card that i had purchased separatly, i managed to snap off the hinges of the SD slot in the excitement of testing it all out!! Bugger. But this was soon fixed and after shoving everything back together it all worked perfectly. + Good Feel + Excellent sharpness of the screen, very clear. + Camera quality is good for a phone + Easy to navigate + Easy to text + Quick + easy to access files without any LAG - Well it's a mid-range phone and there are better ones out there. - Brightness of the screen could be a lot brighter, and this cannot be changed in the settings, bummer. There are some good games (if you like that sort of thing) and the software that comes with the phone for synchronizing to your laptop or PC is also very user friendly. Battery life is surprisingly good in comparison to my old Nokia. I gave it a full over night charge on Friday night and have not switched it off since. I've had some heavy usage out of the phone over the weekend and it’s only just run out of battery - not bad for a first charge. It was also very quick to fully re-charge. I have not experienced any problems with voice clarity either. Again, it is fantastic in comparison with the last Nokia I had. There is actual a voice clarity setting under call setting which can be changed to active or inactive. All in all a great phone that has everything you could possibly need. Rating:

Reviewed by Austin on 20/06/2008 I really wanted this phone to be good, but have just arranged to return the third one to Orange, to be replaced with a SE C902. If the 6500s was built instead of thrown together, it would be a cracker. But it is unfortunately close to junk, so much so that Orange said I should keep it when my replacement arrives - they don't even want it back! On the plus side, the camera is OK, except in bright light when you cannot see a thing on the screen. Given that it is a phone though, and not a camera, I suppose that's to be expected to some extent. Battery life is OK if you turn off 3G. Otherwise, a big disappointment:- on all of mine the slider was either off-centre and/or bigger than the phone body; the slider wobbles when open, especially while writing texts; the back of the phone is so thin it bends - all of mine were bent when I got them (I do know how to remove the back properly; as a result of the dodgy back, the memory card keeps 'disappearing' due to a dodgy connection, so settings like wallpaper and ringtones reset to defaults; because of the bendy back it gets full of dust and presumably moisture would have no problem finding a way in there as well. It generally gives the impression that it won't last a couple of months, never mind the 18mnths of my contract. Credit to Orange for agreeing to replace it with a new model SE, although they did take some persuading. Hopefully the new C902 will be as good as my old W810i which is still going strong for my son 36 months after I got it. That was a good phone! Rating:

Reviewed by Ryan Flynn on 15/06/2008 Now, theres been alot of discussion about themes, ring tones and such reseting themselves every so often, now i recently discovered why the phone does this. whenever the back plate housing the battery, sim card and memory card comes off, the phone resets most of its settings to factory default, so if you don't take the plate off your settings are fine. Now people have been saying that the phone freezes mostly all the time, in my case the phone is absoloutely fine, no problems whatsoever. Now in my opinion the sound quality on this phone is amazing, but if its on full blast in an enclosed space its no wonder why the sound quality is a bit blured. Now the camera quality again is brillinat, but people saying that its not 3.2 megapixels is not the case. after comparing quality from both the n73 and the 6500 the picture quality is near enough the same, but as i recently found out the 6500 photo sizes are a bit big which will make them blured, so all you have to do is change that. now the battery, well isnt as good as i would hope, lasts 2 days on average for me, but it might just be me. now people reporting that when they phone people, the guy on the other end can't hear them, with me that isn't the case, i talk all the time on this phone and have not ran into any problems whatsoever so far. so all in all this is a great phone does eveything you need and looks amazing 5/5 from me guys :) Rating:

When I press the # key the phone doesnt turn on silent and its so frustrating because it has the little silent symbol there!! Also, I dropped it yesterday (ON CARPET) and the screen cracked?? Ok, maybe thats the real reason why Im sending the phone back but there are other flaws such as whenever I set the ringtone to a tune of my choice it seems to change back to the default Nokia tune after about 3 calls?? Don't get me wrong the phone has its up sides (maybe its just my one that was a throwback when they were making them?) the camera quality is excellent, much better than the Sony w910i which I had previously, and the music quality is better which is saying alot. As with all Nokia's I find the menu system second to none. Plus the metal body gives a very high build quality. Minor niggles include: Average battery life I get about a days heavy use out of the phone, but I do work in a poor signal area and have bluetooth turned on, so not too bad. You lose a shortdial number (number 2) is video calling rather than voice and this does tend to prolong dialling your favourite number. Texting is also a little long winded. Rather than just going straight to your contacts, once you finish composing your text you are given four options including favourites, recently used, groups and contacts..not sure if your can change this in the settings. My biggest niggle is the blasted thing pulls at my hair when I just use the hand set. I think the slide design must have a slight gap between case and the screen which keeps trapping my locks! This may be due to my lack of care but I doubt it. Occasionally the wallpaper I have selected reverts back to the standard Nokia one but this matter disappears when the image is moved from my memory card to the phone memory. On the positive side, battery life is faultless, the navigation is a pleasure and very instinctive, music player and sound quality is excellent, the phone is weighty and feels well built and the screen quality is superb (the screen itself is extremely durable) Trust me on this, anybody who rates this any less than 4* has just had bad personal experiences. A number of users seem to worry about the weight of the phone, but this is something that I like, it's great to have a something that feels sturdy. So many of the phones on the market feel flimsy and look like they would break easily. I found it took me a few days to get used to texting (this is because I've been used to much larger keys that are all separate), but I am up to speed again now. Reviewed by Kal on 09/05/2008 I've had this phone for a couple of months now on the 3 network. It's a great looking phone with solid build quality and a good sized screen. Although it's a little bigger than a lot of the slimline phones out there, it's still small enough and light enough to carry around in your pocket. It has all the features you'd expect, great camera, great music player etc.Although Nokia's have a reputation for being easy to use with straightforward menu's, having used this phone for 2 months now, I actually prefer the Sony Ericsson menu system. The major faults with this phone are the lousy battery and signal reception. Nokia claim it has over 300 hours standby and 6 hours talktime but even when I don't use it very often I'm still having to charge it every couple of days. Although it does give you a couple of warnings when the battery is low, it tends to die suddenly. The battery on my previous Sony Ericsson used to cling on for ages, even when it was down to just 5% power and with average use I would only have to charge it once every 5 or 6 days. What's even worse is the reception. The signal constantly fluctuates between weak and absolutely nothing. Call quality is extremely poor. Callers sound echo-ey and there's usually a faint buzzing sound. Often callers struggle to hear what I'm saying. At first I thought it was a network problem but having spoken to 3, they say it's a common problem with this phone. How on earth can a major player like Nokia, who you would think know a thing or two about mobile phones, create such a gorgeous looking phone but forget to actually make it useable?! Surely the main purpose of a mobile PHONE is to be able to make and receive PHONEcalls!! If you're thinking of getting one of these.....think again. Rating:

Reviewed by Elizabeth on 03/05/2008 I've had this phone for roughly 6-8 weeks, and to be completely honest, I've found no major problems with it. I upgraded from an LG KG225, so this was a huge thing for me. A $90 phone to a $500 odd phone. You really notice the difference. The camera is great, there's nice clear sound with a nice big screen and biggish buttons (I can use my fingers and not my nails to press them! :D). It's got a nice, simple layout that's also simple to use, even my nan would be able to navigate it! I just have 2 small things to mention about it though. It will sometimes lag up. Not a complete freeze, but you just have to give it a second or so to catch up with what you're trying to do. The other is that because of it's finish and slidey nature, a lot of marks appear on it (Fingerprints mainly and scratches from sliding on the keypad). Nothing too major though. The battery life is an improvement from my previous phone, so no complaints there and it's weight, although making my pants heavier, I can actually tell if the phone is still in my pocket or not. Makes it harder to lose. 4 stars because it's not perfect, but what is? Rating:
Reviewed by Maria Lopez on 03/05/2008 Well i've had my nokia 6500 black slide for just under 2 months and i must say i have never been so impressed by a phone ever before. Although many mobile phone sites claim otherwise. I am a mobile phone lover! I change my handset whenever my contract allows me to do so. Usually before 2 months may i say. But i'm not thinking about buying another mobile for a very long time yet. I'm in love ............. Rating:

Reviewed by Rizzy on 03/05/2008 I got the phone last monday on the 3g network i got it in black and after id ordered it i looked at some of the reviews and thought i had made the wrong choice. However after using the phone myself i think its one of the best ive ever had Camera quality is brilliant although it does lack some effects sound quality is amazing especially through the headphones and it is a very easy to use phone i dont like the fact that when i remove the back cover the phone wont recognise that there is a memory card inside it..very annoying as most of my themes, music and ringtones are saved on my memory card. overall i think it is a stunning phone, much better than the classic version, which i had a few months back and unfortunately the screen cracked and the phone broke into two...which wasnt very good at all. i am impressed with the battery life as i listen to a lot of music so the music is always playing thrugh my headphones whether i am listening to it or not and my bluetooth also remains on, as does my gprs and i can still come home with the battery indicator showing full overall i believe its a brilliant phone, one of the best nokias since the 6300, which in my opinion was an absolutely stunning phone some people have complained about the size of the 6500 slide in comparison to the 6500 classic personally i prefer bulkier phones with a bit of weight i hate these flimsy samsungs that are being created and are all only about the length of your nail in size its annoying and makes it much more easier to lose your phone as its so light you wont notice that its gone the bulkiness of the phone adds to the professional and much more extravagant feel of it a brilliant creation by nokia once again all praise goes to nokia for making such an outstanding phone Rating:

Reviewed by Joel Miller on 03/05/2008 1. Nokia 6500 Slide is the only slider that does not wear out or grind when opening and closing it, all other model’s sliders ruin in short time periods thus rendering the phone useless and aggravating to operate. 2.It is 123 grams and feels good and is solid. 3.Amazingly after EMT transmission testing it generates far far less than any other 3 and 3.5 generation mobile phone meaning: NO CANCER and reception is very good. 4.The 4GB micro SD memory card from Sandisk works wonders with the Nokia 6500S and allows 4.5 hours of video high quality filming with zoom in/out, you must manually adjust the phone settings to your personal settings preference. I hid my phone behind books with the camera lens facing my work station, I caught who had been stealing my graphic ideas and customer listings while I was on lunch break 1hr, to do this you must remember to set your phone to flight so it doesn’t “RING” while filming. 5.It is quick to respond when key depressing and has many many adjustment settings, discover the phone fully. 6.NOTE: The 6500 slider has 1 major fault in my opinion, the “loud speaker is terribly low when listening to incoming calls on it, the music plays loudly and with fine quality and has many adjustments for sound quality. Summary: Over all the 6500S is a high quality mobile phone with much to offer and is more than enough for most users, it is priced fairly and I feel I received my moneys worth. Thank You Nokia! Reviewed by Chris on 29/04/2008 Firstly I would like to state something I have noticed about the reviews process, there are those who seem to hate something and put one star then there are those whos world is never perfect and put four, then there are those people who will put up with anything and put five! - I should be in the four star category writing this review but.... This phone is junk, there is no other way to say it, Nokia...well what can I say, I have had 7 phones in my life and all of them have been Nokia. I have always been a Nokia person and always thought I would be although that may change next time. Starting with battery life: okay okay you may argue that if i do watch video clips on my phone my battery life will be greatly reduced but this is a 3G phone!!! its design is mainly for functions such as video and music. I watch the weather on my phone every morning which seems to start the issue of battery life, The phone allows the user to add a 4gb memory card which is something I have done although it doesnt make sense when you realise you can only listen to about 100mb of that music before the battery life is yet again greatly affected. The worst bit about the memory card is because of the type of holder, everytime the phone is banged it comes out of place and the phone then has to redetect all of the music on the memory card which slows the whole phone down so much it cannot open games or use the internet, this normally takes about 5 minutes to complete. 3G overheating: everytime i use the 3G for more than around 5 minutes i get a nice warm sensation on my hand, it is a very nice warmth - especially in winter but it should not happen - it is not energy efficient and causes the phone to lock up. Returns: the phone has been returned 7 times (I am actually on my 3rd phone) initially the navigation buttons squeaked when the phone was open, the problem was then the phone locking up and the latest problem has been the 3G, while this phone has been in for repair I decided to get my good ol' 6230i unlocked and started using it again, it really made me miss it!!! I have no personal hate for this phone like many people, I just think it was built in a rush, great design, shame about the lack of stamina! Rating:

Reviewed by onion_chef@yahoo.com on 25/04/2008 worst phone i've ever had.not problems but its da system and the sumhow different style of browsing and user-friendliness.the previous nokias i had was a 3250 and a 7610..which had problems bt nothin compared to dis. 1.the keypad lock is rubbish..sumtimes u cant unlock the phone at all..even with slide on-slide off it wont unlock..have to take da battery off. 2.da 3.2 mgpixel camera sucks.my past 3250 (2mgpixel) and 7610 (1.3mgpixel) gives better pics than dis.i blame the lousy autofocus which u CANT override.nice colour though. 3.isnt user friendly.past nokia phone hav shortcuts on keys for example wen viewing pics..button 5 and 0 for zooming and unzooming, button 1 and 3 for rotating and * button for full screen..dis phone does none of dat except for full screening.u have to go to MENU then choose ZOOM or ROTATE the u have to choose wat degree of rotation..its dreadful.and did i mention da viewing zoom is rubbish? 4. u cant copy data from memory card to phone memory u can only MOVE it..and once u copy/move a data into da memory card, i dare u to try and move it again to one of the folders in dat same memory card..(its impossible unless with PC Suite) 5. the flash is so blinding u cant look at it straight..cud lit up da whole moon.. 6. i prefer the old style where wen u press and hold the MENU button it shows wat programs dat are currently running in the background..dis phone does not do dat..it switches off any programs it bloody likes wen u press the end call button. 7. i hate how it ask u "are u sure u want to exit application?" everytime u exit a program..i believe dis is due to problem #6 bcoz u might accidently pressed da exit button while on a program.in the old nokias if u accidently hit exit,da program wud stil be running in the background and u juz have to press and hold MENU button to have it back.sort of like minimizin |
