Reviewed by elle on 30/06/2008this phone was great in the beginning..but at this point in time i have to say its the worst nokia phone i have ever had..on the 1st day of the 8th month of having it, i strtd experiencing problems with the screen..it changes colour or goes all fuzzy like a tv with bad signal or the screen just goes blank and i gotta bang on it cause it takes too long to get back to normal! it really is annoying! im taking it for repairs whilst i await my N95.. Rating: Reviewed by Sarah on 28/06/2008 I've had the phone for about a year and it's been great - the camera is good and although on ly 2mp it certainly takes good enough quality shots to use as pc wallpaper. HOWEVER, I am having major problems with it just shutting down whenever it feels like it - which is incredibly annoying especially when in the middle of a phone call or long text!! Rating: Reviewed by James on 22/06/2008 This is an older phone, but 3 are still trying to sell it in Australia, so if you are considering buying this one, I recommend strongly against it. It may be great for the first few months but the durability is absolutely dismal. I'm careful with my phones, but 6 months after purchase the screen had easily cracked, the LCD backlight dimmed until it was almost impossible to read at night, and the screen gets marks/scratches *very* easily (requires a screen protector). It is very bulky to slip into your pocket and makes you look a bit ridiculous, and it requires charging daily. I was so glad to offload the wasted piece of junk recently! The 2 and 3 buttons don't work and it has a habit of dropping calls every now and again. The frame around the lCD has fallen off. It has a very good 2MP camera and the pictuce and movie quality is excellent. Think i will keep it as a camera!! Only have it a year. Rating: Reviewed by 6288 WORST PHONE EVER on 19/06/2008 worst phone ever, it over heats burning your ear when in a call, the screen has broke twice on me, twice!! they are weak poor phones, 3 is unreliable the signal is there one minute then gone the next, texts take ages to come through if you lose signal, in a phone call you burn your ear or i cuts out through loss of signal. Its bad! bad! and even worse! come one people, the ear speaker buzzes when you are on the phone so you can't hear the person on the other end, you ask them to shout, you argue and then ya phone speaker brakes and end of friendship. I am on 3. Its like marmite. you either love it or hate it and I hate it! Today i put it into repair for the 4th time since i got it. the first repair went in 2 anf a half weeks after getting the phone! I advise everyone not to buy this phone and not to go onto three. The buttons have stopped working, they keys and coming with random numbers, if i press 8 it comes up with 3! screws inside the phone come loose. this has happened twice. Its a poor phone! Valur for money its really good! But i got a problem!! DUST PROBLEM....dust is getting inside the screen through sides which is sealed by "glue".......but i opened the glass and applied some super glue by myself!! Although the phone is two years old now the high price of £160 on the Nokia website now speaks for itself. In the past Nokia have served me very well. The old brick phones were great, in fact the 2nd Nokia brick I had fell in the bath and still worked! However, this phone is the worst phone by a million miles. The features are great, but now I have had the phone for over a year, I literally get 2 minutes to look at the great features before it turns itself off and back on again. Whether I am looking at the internet on it, part way through a phone call, sending a text, or doing literally nothing at all, it randomly turns off and then back on. Not only that sometimes, once it has randomly rebooted, you can't turn it off any more without taking the battery out of the back. I have been very careful with this phone, so no unreasonable wear and tear has taken place. Aside from this issue is the most crazy thing I have ever seen on a mobile. There is a 'voice recorder' button on the outside (in case you quickly need to record yourself singing or something!) which can be activated while the keypad is locked. Great when it's in your pocket. However, to turn the voice recorder back off in this instance, you have to press unlock and * before it lets you! This phone is an absolute joke, stear clear. Buy anything instead, even 2 cans a bit of string would be better, at least the string wouldn't randomly snap ever 2 minutes. Ive had mine coming up to 12 months and its the 3rd one I've had. I had a black one and the day I got it home it crashed so took it straight back. The next one did the same after 6 weeks and so had to go for repair, and now I;ve got a white one. that one crashed as well and had to go for repair as well so its not something I would recommend but a lot of it is down to the poxy mobile shops that sell you these things then wont replace them when they are faulty. I wouldnt have one of these again - Ive decided to just get a cheap phone when this contract ends and go back on PAYG. Not worth the hassle. But after two weeks it started to turn itself off in the middle of calls. Switched itself off then on with the battery fully charged... this was a good thing :) The camera started to freeze and when i pushed the side button it would lock up and to resolve it you had to take the battery out. The video player didnt work. You couldnt play back any videos that you had previously taken!!! AAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I highly reccomend NOT to BUY this PHONE!! Im sick of this phone Firstly i hat the way there is no choice of music i.e artists,playlists etc Secondly The camera has no cover,and gets dirty and scratched within a minute of using the phone.... Also you get so many fingerprints over it it only looks good till you touch it!!! They are just saying all those things, but really they are obviously exagerating. MY opinion is that it's a great phone and I HIGHLY reccomend it to anyone and everyone. APPARENTLY they are untrustworthy and it's hit and miss whether they work, but from my experience they have been phone and many people in family and friends have Nokias and they all work perfectly. So do buy them, they work and they are GREAT!. Rating: Reviewed by Jess on 12/03/2008 this phone is dodgy. i got it in september last year and am on my second one after a replacement one (stuffed up within a month) then the replacement one's LCD stuffed up within 6 weeks and i had to get an lcd upgrade & software upgrade. last month it started stuffing up AGAIN. most common problems are: resetting while chraging, wallpaper dissappearing, camera not working, screen fizzing out, inverting colours, chipped sides, damage to the top, menu's coming on randomly....i had my phone in my bag which had my jumper in it and i took it out when i got home and noticed a LARGE crack on the screen. also had reception problems. when i try to go into the texting menu my phone will reset sometimes. applications wont load or shut down my phone during use. its seriously a screwed up phone. my friend has the same phone and got it a month after me and a month after all my problems happened, they happeened to him. unfortunatly i cant replace it until september next year, lock ed into a two year plan..... DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!!!!! Rating: Reviewed by David O'Shea (tech@avmuk.co.uk) on 12/03/2008 I like this Nokia 6288 the best Nokia Ive ever had, I'm a loyal customer at Nokia been with Nokia phones since I was 16 (thats 11 yrs) the only problem I have is that I use it for business and 3 (Three) the network charged me obseen charges so I canceled the contract and I can't use the phone anymore its locked to 3 and I want it unlocked so I can go back to a full 100% working network O2, Ive also been with O2 since I was 16 and I think O2 are the best especially with the new "free unlimited txts" for only £30 top-up a month and I usually top-up around £40 a month, at the moment I'm on Tesco mobile and I have a Motorola V3 and beware the charges at Tesco arn't very cheep and the Motorola V3 is weak. Rating: Reviewed by Matthew on 10/03/2008 This phones caused me so much stress. Problems with software, this phone takes around 10 minutes to turn on, then turns straight back off. Nokia sold a bad batch of phones, and with the slightest scratch on them will not replace, claiming it was caused by impact damage. I brought another one in order to make a point. I left the phone with all the plastic covers on, followed every set up tip given, charged every day, and didn't move it, and what do you know. It starts turning off. I then try to test Nokia further, by taking off the backplate and denting one of the sides. I take the phone into the Nokia store, the attendant takes one good look around and says theres impact damage and to fix it will cost around $250 dollars. Luckily, vodafone replaced the phone, but Nokia will try to get its way out of paying for anything. Its just plain annoying, and to anyone who uses their phone for business or needs a 100% reliable phone, this is by far the worst one i have come ac ross. SO IRRITATING. This time i am not getting it fixed i am just going gto buy a new 1. I have only had it for 6 months and it has broken twice and it shuts down by itself and keeps deleteing everything. Also it keeps freezing. The upper row of the numbers is very close to the slider thus the use has to make sure he presses the right button. Interface is clumsy. When sending an SMS the phone stays in this screen leaving you with the feeling you didn't press the send button. The screen broke in the first couple of weeks and since then it has gone through patches of shutting down during calls and now the screen is turning off and breaking up constantly. functionally its easy to use and i've had no problems with battery life. The sound is good as is the camera, but its not reliable at all. There seems to be a problem with the screen. Even though there was no physical force applied to the screen it cracked for no obvious reason. I've had it for 10 months and every month or 2 it feezes - it looks like it's still on but no calls or messages are received. The nokia people just told me that i have to power off and on - but you do don't actually know it's in this state until you missed a heap of calls etc. Yesterday the SCREEN CRACKED in front of my eyes. I sent a text, put the phone down, picked it up a few minutes later, had my thumb on the screen to slide it up and the screen went black with a crack running vertically down the left side. Like someone else here i recently upgraded from an n70 to this phone, and it says it all when you yearn to put the sim back into the old phone and just use that instead. Looks wise, the 6288 looks the biz, however when it comes down to performing, it is a complete disappointment, a mere shadow of the n70. Some (highly annoying reasons why) - with 3 network, phone is restricted so you cannot have a quick navi key to things like your messages or settings folder - buttons are plastically and need a lot of force for texting compared to other phones -n70 is much easier - search bar on contacts menu is done through a menu which is aggravating- n70 has it on the very first menu and allows you to instantly and dynamically search contacts e.g. typing j on the keys gives you all the contacts with both names and surnames beginning with j e.g. James Bridge. Tom Joiner. Its absolutely pointless and timewasting to be forced to go thru another menu before enabling the feature. -pressing down on a text message will not take you back to the beginning of a text, again why remove such functionality?!!! I simply cannot rate this phone more than 2stars when there are better, much older phones that do a far better job. tbh people here reviewing are not drawing any comparisons to other new phones but hey, ignorance is bliss... :/ Further points, slightlyless/on par sound quality for phones (more than acceptable mind) Camera is pretty good-although a bit hit and miss if you want to edit or use pics for background wallpapers Rating: Reviewed by angel on 21/01/2008 I love this phone, the only thing is that the slider mechanism is loose, other than that, its pretty good. After about a year though, camera=dusty pictures that had no detail whatsoever, the whole user interface becomes INCREDIBLY slow, radio brakes. To add to that, the phone is made of 2 main parts, top and bottom, basically the two parts that enable the whole sliding feature of the phone, after a year these 2 parts came off, I managed to put it back together but anytime it received any bang/drop, it would break. Then the camera broke. A few friends all bought this phone and had the same problems. Just bought the SE K810i which is fabulous. Rating: Reviewed by chris on 29/11/2007 Dont understand what is wrong with some people moaning that it breaks when you drop it and that the battery doesn't last 5 mins.This phone is great.Picture quality is superb and video capture is great if you up the resolution.The slide maybe feels a bit fragile but no more so than many other phones.Dont drop it on the floor and it wont break.Bet you would'nt complain if your tv broke when you dropped it on the floor.Only fault i can think of is that dust gets trapped under the screen but that can be cleaned away every so often by removing the cover. Since then I send it back 3 times, with problems with the LCD screen (without any reason all screen covered with blue and red lines and I had to turn it off and on many times in order to recover). For 2 months I hadn't mobile (3 service periods). I asked for replacement with another no Nokia phone but they will sent me a new 6288. Hope for a new better start with this phone. This is a common default with slide Nokia's. Another fault with most Nokia's is it will just randomly restart which can be extremely annoying if you are listening to music or sending a text! Also the internal memory is too small u really need the memory card to utilise the camera etc..and the loudspeaker option is at the bottom of the list so if u wanna make a loud speaker call nine times out of ten the person u are calling answers the call before u can hear them as u can't select it untill the call is being made!! It is a bit bulky but a very good and easy to understand phone. Well, I thought it was good till yesterday when the screen broke for now apprarent reason. It seems to have developed what looks like a crack and some lines in the inside of the screen. I could explain this isf I had dropped it or banged it somehow, but it was in my well cushioned pocket by itself as usual, in its little protective bag. I went to use it on returning home and couldnt as I could not see the screen properly. Very, dissapointed with what what appear to be a very sensitive screen, that appears to have gone 'haywire' for no apparent reason. Dont know if the screen can be replaced. If not its a new phone, which is fine if you have £150 quid. Rating: Reviewed by I Tailer on 30/10/2007 This phone was bought as part of a package with 3. however within the first month the phone developed what appeared to be a crack on the inside of the screen. 3 and Nokia just right it off as damage caused by dropping or crushing. However the phone was never dropped or crushed. As you can not wrap the camera in cotton wool it is not fit for purpose. The purpose being a piece of equipment that should be able to take a knock or two even if that includes dropping or mild crushing. If it needs a rubber surround or case then this should be supplied.
