Reviewed by Em on 11/01/2012 I've accindently dropped this phone about 20 times, and it only has a few dents, and still works perfectly fine. The sound on it is great, a lot better than some of my mate's samsungs. The flash light is really good, easy to send and receive messages, make calls & receive them... The camera is good quality, radio can be received quite easily, and the sports menu is useful. My dad had this phone for ages before me, and despite it haveing a few dents and scrachtes, it works great. I'm looking for a new phone at the moment, but beleive me, this phone is great for a first mobile. Rating:

It is heavy weight proof ( dropped extremely large stone blocks on it) and it still works, it is water resistant (but still dont take it for a swim) and the keypad is fine! The one and only problem is that it doesn`t read a 2GB micro SD card properely Rating:

Reviewed by Ian1 on 10/11/2010 I've had my 5500 Sport for over three years now and it still hasn't fallen apart despite being dropped frequently into mud and onto rocks. Apart from the visibility of the small screen outdoors it has done exactly what I needed it to do and has proved very reliable. It is, however, now starting to show its age and I am struggling to find something which is going to be as durable over as long a time. I'm not overly bothered about having the latest features but would still like a fairly well-specced 'phone which this was when I bought it. Rating:

Reviewed by Harsh on 29/06/2010 Well I have seen a lot of bad reviews about Nokia 5500 Sport phone, that's why decided to write on as per my experience. I am resident of India, and here for the cost this phone was not worth buy. But I got it in 50% sale :D. Cons: I am using it since almost 4 and half years and only practical problem that I face is that its rubber key-pad popped out almost 6 months back (and its great for me as according to other reviews it happens within 2-3 months of using while mine lasted for almost 3and half yearsand that too with lots of brutal usage in texting and games). The camera is not great, but good in daylight for its specs (2 MP). Screen is very small for a smartphone. Propeitery data cable. Pros: Solid build, and that means solid in reality, I have dropped it from 10 feet to 50 feet heights, dropped it in mud, sewage passage near my house, used it in while taking dips in sea, once a truck passed over it, I used to work in a very dusty environment, so dusty that you can't see clearly beyond some 50-70 meters, but it is still working aginst all odds and all brutality that I have imposed on it. I have nerver seen such a tough phone in India atleast, don't know about other countries. Can play almost all the media files (by installing extra softwares). But still its inbuilt media player and music player are very good. Connectivity is excellent through all kind of connecting options. Voice clarity is very good. Fast enough for a basic smartphone, never hanged, I used to use pdf and office documnet readers on it. I installed maps from satguide on it. They didn't worked correctly, but then they were not released to be used on this phone. These are basic things which I liked and hated about this phone. Don't know may be I am not a great user of smartphones, but I got what I needed in a phone, a solid built, multifunctional, all-in-one phone. If I have to rate it out of 10 then I will rate it as 7.5/10. Rating:

I replaced it with a Sony Ericsson C902 and that phone withstood building site life, pretty much every other phone I have had, apart from the 5500. the only saving grace of the 5500 was the loudspeaker, it was great. Compared to the sony Ericsson K750i which i also own, has a really really good battery life and i can go for hours but id rather use my nokia 5500 which is also kind of a smartphone so you can do alot with it but the battery life is really really rubbish Rating:

I contact variouse Nokia Care shop but nobody and I said nobody has been able to replace or at least make something in order to have again my phone in good and efficient work (phone was still in the 1 year warrenty). Reviewed by catalin.dumitra on 23/10/2008 Owner of Nokia 5500 Sport for more than 2 years. Major downsides: - keypad falls off completely after a few months after purchasing. I had to use super-glue to stick it back and cut the margins to make it fit in place - you can very easily loose battery cover since it is not well fixed. I lost mine two months ago :( - NO COVERS available anywhere. Considering that I just lost my battery cover and that keypad falls, new covers are most welcome. - keypad face losses color in time. it becomes white - do not be mislead by the voice recording feature. it only allows recording for MAXIMUM 1 MINUTE!!! In rest, I love the phone idea. Too bad Nokia used the idea to make people buy it but did not care much in implementing it RIGHT. I'm very very reluctant in buying any Nokia phone ever ever ever... this is why I'm stuck with this one for so long Rating:

Reviewed by Alan Webb on 30/07/2008 Bought the 5500 Sport in part because it was marketed as tough and hardwearing - bit of a joke realy. After 18 months of light use I have suffered the same problem as so many owners with the key pad peeling off, chrome on the scroll key and the printing on the key pad wearing off. Also suffered from voice mailbox symbol not cancelling. According to my retailer this was a software problem known to Nokia but they had not (or did not want to)to provide a fix. Fortunatly his engineer managed to sort it, but the problem has reappeared. Otherwise I realy liked the phone, spoilt by poor quality control. Reviewed by Billy on 16/07/2008 Had mine for 18 months. This is a bad phone. As all reviewers noted, the phone's furniture is simply not durable. The key pad falls off as does the 'touch pad' below the screen. To make matters worse (and it can't get much worse than having no keypad), the software has a fault which informs you that you have a message, when you don't. In short: the phone is fragile and the software is buggy. Don't waste your time on this destructable 'indestructable' phone. Rating:

The sports function is really nice but also rather basic. I also have my doubts about the accuracy of the running speed/distance. Camera is good. Music quality is excellent!! Reviewed by Alan on 06/06/2008 I've had my 5500 Sport for a year and I've never been so disappointed with any phone before. It cannot communicate with my Mac computer as Nokia have not developed software for Macs. I downloaded the Windows compatible software to run in my PC emulator but the screen icons were totally pixilated and unreadable. Useless !! I have to sent photos, videos, music to a friend's phone (a Samsung) that has good software that can email to my internet account. Additionally, other software faults in the phone have developed. Each time I switch the phone on it tells me there is a new Voice Message waiting for me, even if there isn't. I have checked with my phone account provider who say there is nothing wrong at their end and the fault is within my phone. Just recently, the headphone icon has started to appear randomly even though I never use headphones. This means I cannot hear when the phone rings and cannot hear the other person speaking unless I start using headphones. But then, it randomly switches out of headphone mode !! The latest fault that has developed is that it has stopped communicating with my bluetooth earpiece. I've tested the earpiece with other phones and it works fine. This is obviously yet another problem with my phone. The contract on my phone expires in two days and I shall be upgrading it as soon as possible thereafter - and it won't be another Nokia Rating:

Reviewed by Jonathan Silver on 07/04/2008 A very durable phone - until it sheds its keypad. Then it's totally unusable. I had mine fixed under warranty. The rubber flap covering the connectors at the bottom also broke. Now the phone is 16 months old, more issues have emerged. The text messaging application is so buggy that it crashes-to-standby at least twice a day. Sometimes it doesn't crash, it just hangs, and I have no choice but to reboot the phone. And turning it on takes about two minutes - no good if you need to call an ambulance (yes, it once delayed me calling an ambulance). The key placement also means I frequently hit cancel by accident when texting, so I have to find my half-written message in Drafts. This usually involves the Messaging app hanging again, me swearing, and rebooting the phone again. The Sports application can not be exited. It runs in the background draining power as long as the phone's on. Some nice features - like a pedometer, and the very useful torch - but it's missing some basic things. Reviewed by Royser on 19/01/2008 I totally disagree with the other comments that say the 5500 is a flimsy phone. I've had mine for over a year with no problems. The phone is compact, sturdy and has load od functions and the symbian os is superb. 5/5 Rating:
Reviewed by Camazza on 17/01/2008 Nokia has fixed the keypad problem in later revisions (phones manufactured approx. from mid-2007 to present). However the popularity of the phone had already dropped and now it is a BARGAIN because for a small amount of money you get one of the best smartphones around. It's small, excellent keypad, excellent durability (i've had it for 6 months and I could sell it as NEW, it's still perfect) plus you get the Symbian 9.1 OS... my best buy in a long time. Rating:
Reviewed by David on 13/01/2008 When my Nokia 5140i came up for replacement, I took up an offer on a 5500 and I wish I hadn't. I work outside and I only require a phone to make and recieve calls with an odd text message every so often. The 5500 is hard to hear when it rings, the vibration cant be felt and it regularly freezes when I press the answer key and it needs the battery taking out and restarting again. Once in a call, the volume is very poor and the loadspeaker is even worse. On the odd occasion I have used the camera, I have found it to be extremly poor, the one no my last phone was better. Within a few months, the keys have come away from the case, which I mended by glueing them back in myself which has also happened to my freinds phone. Also the new type of nokia charger is hopeless. Out of 5 in our household, only one of them manages to work and only if the wire is held in a certan position. Nokia should go back to the drawing board and make a simple rugged shockproof and waterproof phone for buisiness users, not wannabe sports people who probably wouldnt have this type of phone anyway. I wouldnt wish this model on anybody and will never have another new nokia again Rating:

Reviewed by MP on 06/01/2008 Keypad hasn't peeled off and I've had phone three months. Dropped it on concrete couple of times which marked it a bit but still works perfectly. Screen hasn't scratched at all. You can delete all text messages at once, by selecting 'mark all' and then delete. Battery life is average, especially if you play games, but this is to be expected with a smartphone. Charging flap is a bit fiddly. Many features on this phone, nice size, pretty easy to use. If you want a simpler phone with good battery life, get Nokia 6300. Rating:

Reviewed by david from Wales on 07/12/2007 I bought this phone last Feb, and i love it. A couple of small problems, 1 when you turn the phone on, it seems to take ages to get going 2, when going into text messages, it again takes a while to open the message 3, it eats the battery so fast i have to charge it up every other day. My last phone lasted up to 8 days on standby, and 4, I do not like the rubber flap at the bottom. I feel it is going to come off before long. Apart from that, i think it is perfect. The sound when playing either radio or mp3 is great. With the earphones on its as good as any walkman, and has a better sound quality than my laptop. The camera delivers a great picture. Its as good as my 5 mega pixal digital camera. The only thing that lets it down is the video. The quality is quite poor especially when watching it on my laptop. It is very solid in construction. My little girl has knocked it in the toilet and thrown it downstairs onto a hard wooden floor. It still works and does not have a mark on it. A great phone and its easy to use. Rating:

Reviewed by Roger on 26/11/2007 This would have to be the worst phone I have ever owned - yes - even back to the good old housebrick of the Eighties. The display is small - the numbers smaller (post 40's eyesight issues), and yes - the keypad fell off after a few months. Overcomplicated non-intuitive menue structure with multiple useless features. Texting is a pain, and battery life unimpressive. Voice command is difficult to use -in fact I gave up trying to record my own voice tags. Ellen (the voice reader for text messages) is at best mildly annoying. I bought this phone because I work in the marine industry and am out in all weathers - so "waterproof" was a big factor in my choice - but this is about as waterproof as my 10 year old Docksiders (though it probably smells marginally better!) Absolute rubbish! Rating:
