Right now I am not satisfied with its quality (sound, camera, video calling). Otherwise it is good but not best.

I always rated Nokia phones as the best but this one is a disappointment to me and I will get rid of it. Here are some basic problems with it: Text notification cannot be set to repeat so if you blink and are not right by the phone you will miss it. Also the little flashing bar again is so vague, if you blink you'll miss it. Also, it only rings 3 times before it cuts off, which makes me miss 99% of calls. I've looked everywhere in the setting to change this and cannot see it? And finally the screen light is bad that you can basically not see the screen in the day light or God forbid in the sunlight so texting, emailing or browsing is out of question unless you can find a dark spot or bush you can step into to check your messages! Also, I rarely bother using internet on it as it always freezes up and the only way to proceed is to reboot the phone! Don't buy it!

this is the worst phone i have ever had. I did not buy it, but i got it from my telecom operator for free, and now i would like to pay them to take this phone back. so lets begin: many times i would charge my phone and go to sleep, in the morning my alarm would not ring because the phone is off. this happens very often, and after this it is hard to turn on the phone. also in the middle of the text message writing, the phone decides to delete my message (this happens very often). maps for navigation are rubbish, they do not work... I am not happy with this phone at all!

i got my 5230 from 3 about 15 months ago on an 18 month contract. Since then it's been in for repair 4 times - been replaced FOC 2 of those times. Absolute rubbish imo. I've had other Nokias in the past & found them excellent - which is why I got this. Counting the days until the 18 months are up & that's the end of a Nokia as my phone of choice - will never get another Nokia. A neighbour has one too, on Vodaphone so the problems are not network specific. She's had nothing but trouble too - phone not turning on/off, sound dying in the middle of a call. If this review offered the option of zero stars that's what i'd choose - unfortunately, it doesn't so i'll have to award it 1 star.

I have however had major problems with the memory capacity, and although I also used a memory card have managed ot go through 2 of these on my contract in 12 months with the same problem! Also had major issues with Voda re replacement of the second phone - Make sure you note the IMEI number of any handsets you have! Battery great, lasts for days, calling features etc fine, messages ok (apart from the random deleting!), all in all a very good smart phone for a novice! I'd hesitate about advising to get one though due to the memory problems!

A pretty good phone some of the time (when it works) but faults appear do suddenly appear then disappear. The battery isn't brilliant, but not dreadful, reasonably easy to use and the screen is quite nice and sharp. But the internet has an intermittent problem with it shutting down by itself, the battery drains occaisonally, the radio can struggle for reception, the battery bars are very inaccurate and it freezes up quite regularly. Overall a nice phone to use but I have 15 months left with it and am struggling to have much faith left in it. A shame because in theory it could have been a great 2 years. Still, compared to the other reviews on here, it could be worse ( no offence )

heya people! There's no way you can start comparing a laptop with any smart fone, nokia 5230 included. Secondly, one must be techno-survey to know that at any given time has nokia introduced a fone which is bogus! Thirdly, any consumer of an electronic product, must learn how to use the product with time, taking into consideration that, any new product must be different from the previous one despite the fact that they might be coming from the same company. Fourthly, commodities go commisurate with prices. Naturally, if one wants a better product, seemingly, one has to go for a slightly expensive thing. Fiftly, over the years, nokia has been trying to merge quality with affordability. Sixthly, its from the afore mentioned points and the use of various nokia fones, that i can say from the point of experience and knowledge, and without fear of contradiction, that nokia 5230, is without a doubt, another very easy to use but technologically edged fone in the market, currently. Buy it, you won't regret it!

I really don't like this phone. I got it for the maps, which, when they work, are just fine, but it jammed solid when upgrading the software and had to be replaced. Then it told me the maps were all out of date and needed upgrading, so it deleted the whole lot (I had the entire world on there) and then wouldn't reload them. I reloaded manually and now it's decided that it occasionally can't find the 16gb memory card and shuts down the satnav function halfway through a trip. Not a good investment. I'm not surprised that Nokia's losing market share. EBay here we come!

My phone closes its internet browser entirely by itself, very disappointing. The calling speaker is also a bit rubbish, it feels slightly cheap and the less significan settings can be very difficult to find. On the plus sign, the screen is quite responsive, signal reception is just about OK and the FM radio reception and graphics are quite good (by graphics I mean the backgroud screen and info look very nice).

the 5230 is both sweet and bitter! I love the touch screen, hate the camera, i hate the battery life and its bulky. In terms of price its worth it but fails miserably in this era of really brilliant phones like the iphone and android phones. Had it for one month and surely saying goodbye to it!

This is by far the worst phone I have ever had and I am now stuck with it for nearly 2 years as Orange say it is 'not a problem phone'. The touch screen is unresponsive then goes into overdrive and flies forward 4 steps, it randomly sends itself to my email page and costs me money for connecting to the internet, the alarm needs to be beaten repeatedly to get it to turn off in the mornings, the internet is so slow you may as well not bother with it, if you download an app it decides it can't cope and goes into meltdown, it is soooooo slow to do anything...... I detest this phone and would not recommend for anybody to buy it. The only good points are that the Sat Nav is actually surprisingly good and the battery life is fairly good if you are a light user. Now to start saving the pennies to buy a replacement.....

I got this phone at around September 2010 (last year) It has easy typing, ok camera & filming, easy menu access e.c.t The negative outlook is that despite being a good high quality touch screen, it lacks SOMETHING. Its too...bulky...too slow at the inernet. I mean, its quick most of the time for everything else, but internet is noticably slower. I don't use internet much but when I do it takes forever. Its cheap though, mine was £80 at Tesco, but now its about £40. I advise you to get something like a HTC Wildfire - my friend has that phone and its pretty good. Quick internet, downloadable games e.c.t. The HTC does tend to be slow at times. But Nokia 5230 is an ok easy phone, I won't be changing anytime soon. :)

I would strongly not recommend this phone to anyone. This is because of the problems I have had , which are: . Somtimes not turning on properly - screen doesnt load, only half the back ground loads. . When you type , the majority of the time it auto deletes every thing you type! This also happens when if you make a typo and just want to delete and correct a letter. . Texts somtimes do not send.

I was never a Nokia fan and this is the 1st time I am using it. But I must say I am satisfied with it. In this price range no other phone is capable of delivering what it does. Even it plays the normal downloaded .avi movies using divx player (ofcourse with some lags). +ve: Large n very clear screen , Symbian platform (can download some apps and is always better than java phones), GPS, 3G -ve: Camera (Poor quality n flash missing), Music player (Poor sound quality even with good earphones), No wifi, No video calling, Battery backup (not more than 30 hours with normal usage of net and calls), Slow processor and late response. After downloading divx player and swype...m lovin this phone. I am a big fan of Sony walkman phones which I was using earlier (W700i) and the sound quality of this is nowhere in comparison with it. If you are not concerned with camera, music player and wifi you can go for it. I have used Samsung Star also and comparatively 5230 is far more better than that. There are too many things which can be done on this phone. Internet browsing is awesome. Skype, Operamini, Nimbuzz, too many themes and many more...all working gr8 (Even auto rotate supported by all apps). Recently I came to know that torrent also works on it (Still trying for that) What else you need with a mobile in this price range. But as it is a Nokia be ready to handle lags n hangs. One problem I am facing that even though I am saving all the files in memory card the phone memory is getting full. Can anyone help me out?

Three rang me 'weirdly' and hit me in the ear with a sales pitch. I needed a new phone so i thought 'why not?' recieving my phone in 2 days i was delighted that i now have a new gadget i could mess with and make it do lots of wonderfull things. Oh no! Yes it has all its greatness in its 'certain' areas. But these areas are NOT FREE. It has gps, but it costs a bomb to use it and its not included in your contract, so thats extra! Anything that involves streaming video costs extra! Even if you do have 2.5gb a month. Which i never use. The battery doesnt last long, if your using your phone all day then you will have to charge it by the end of the day. It leaves applications running so that drains the battery more. I've given up trying to use a stylus, and its quite slow. My girlfriend thought it was good. So she got one which gave us an extra 25 on our phones which we used in the month we got it and now her memory card has just formatted itself. So overall, it comes with good stuff. Yeah. But there not free to use. 3 out of 5.
