Reviewed by Erica on 24/10/2007 had this phone for about 2 years now, and it's still a pretty good phone. only complaints are that it makes an annoying noise when you accidentally bump the side buttons (especially when it's in your pocket), it's massive compared to other phones available now, there's no stopwatch and the mp3 player takes a while to load. however, the camera is very able and overall this phone has served me well. Reviewed by steve on 23/04/2007 The phone is very stylish, but a little too chunky for my liking. Also, the navigation is a bit slow, ie there's an annoying delay when I want to make a call. The camera facility is average, and what you would expect from a 1.2 mp camera without optical zoom or flash. The MP3 player is largely pointless because the battery life on this phone isn't good. games are pointless. All the extras are unnecessary. Also, I can't find a way of blocking certain incoming nos, but it's aphone and it works reasonably well. Oh yes, the video is good as well, for the odd piece of video. Rating:

Reviewed by Simon on 08/03/2007 Yes this phone's good. It feels great and looks great. Nice design. But...... it has a tiny txt memory and has that REALLY ANNOYING Motorola problem with receiving concatinated messages. When the in box is more than half full and a txt is received it jumbles up the new with the old. Sometimes it says there are 20 new messages. Then you find that there is one new one all mixed in with the old ones. It's an SMS format issue that's particular to Motorola, the V3X does it too, amongst other annoying things. Motorola is form over function. Buy a Samsung. Rating:
Reviewed by Adam on 11/02/2007 Decided to buy this phone due to its high resolution camera to replace my aging Sony Ericsson T610. So far the phone has served me well for about three years. The case is well made and sturdy with a nice metal finish on the edges and the back. The screen is fantastic, showing a crisp resolution and is large and colourful. Camera performance is pretty good, although a lack of auto-focus means this phone should only be used for close up or indoors shots. The flash is great for taking snaps in bars or clubs. The only problem is that the camera lens is recessed into the case and can be a magnet for dirt and anything else from your pocket, thus adding extra 'noise' to the picture. The side buttons are also a problem when the phone is being transported, as they get knocked quite easily causing the camera to photograph nothing but black and drain the battery at the same time. The other multimedia functions are ok, although I was disappointed with the performance of the mp3 player as it was slow to boot up. The expandable memory is a big plus allowing lots of music and pictures to be stored, although you will need a transflash card (luckily I got a 128Mb one free when I brought the phone). The phone also lets you use any mp3 file as a ringtone (as long as it is stored on the phone's memory) which is a nice feature. The operating system is reasonable although can suffer from slow-down when answering a call taking a second to register that you have pressed the 'answer' key. Bluetooth works well and the phone syncs with my computer's calender with no problems (I use a Mac so don't know how well it works with Windows). The big problem I had with this phone was the awful software that came with it - avoid using it if possible as it freezes all the time and is generally irritating to use. Overall this is an excellent reliable phone with a good camera and multimedia features and excellent build quality. Rating:

Reviewed by Snorkel on 24/12/2006 This phone is alot better then the last one I purchased, but lacks in places where other, much cheaper, phones excell. The MP3 memory services of this phone are quite terrible, one MP3 file was all mine would take before the memory was over packed. The pictures it takes are alright, but the photo taking function itself is quite perculiar. For basic, practical needs this phone is perfect. But if you're looking for a funky phone with tangible MP3 playing abilities, look elsewhere. Rating:

Reviewed by Becky on 19-04-2006 Ive had this phone for about 9 months now. Me and some other members of my family have all got the same phone. Its got a brill camera and features.
However the only problem that has affected all of my family's motorola V635's is that after around 6months the sound goes. When someone phones
you up you can't hear them talking. It is possible to get this repaired under guarantee though, but the problem has re-occured on my sisters phone. Apart from that this phone is one of the est phones ive had for a while. Rating:
Reviewed by Dan on 24-03-2006 Have had the phone for almost a year now, should say my third one. First one had problem with displays, they went all white and lost all memory.
Second one replaced after 3 months kept dropping calls and locking up, replaced again with new phone after 4 months, then the last one started to fail about 3 weeks into receiving it, and the current problem is error cannot charge. Motorola will not replace again, so I had no choice to send in for repairs. Phone returned week later, and two days later the same error has occured. Now I am traveling out of the country, battery low allarm is on and unit will not charge at all.
I look at this more as a loss to my service provider and Motorola. The features seem fantastic for this phone, but unfortunelty when you come to rely on this type of technology and it is failling at such a high rate, one must wonder where the quality is?
Time to find new service provider also, as they (Rogers) are not to interested in resolving the issue, keep telling me to deal with Motorola.
Without making any negative comments, I would recommend anyone buying a new phone to sit down and watch for an hour all the cusotmer service issues that take place on various phones, I was amazed to see the large number of people with the simmilar issues when waiting for sales rep to deal with my issues. Reading some of the bad experiences other people have had on here completely echoed what ive had to put up with for the last 10 months, this is a piece of junk.
Dropped calls, red button continually breaking, bad reception, no texts for days then recieveing them in bulk, poor battery life (needs recharging every day),the list goes on....
I've been using my old Nokia whilst i've had this phone as it's continually being repaired(!!!) just to have the same problems a few days
after I have it back. This week i've finally given up and got myself a new phone (back to Nokia).

Reviewed by Matt Robinson on 25-01-2006 This phone is an excellent phone. It looks stylish and has great battery life. However there is one or two things that annoy me.
1. I cannot play tracks from CD's on the phone. I'm not sure if that this is just me being stupid or that the 512mb card doesn't like them.
2. The bluetooth although it stays on for however long you want, the "Find Me" option only stays on for 60 seconds. Is there a way to change that?
Other then those slight annoyances, it's a brilliant phone, very durable, and if you drop it, it doesn't affected it at all.
Overall a great phone. Rating:

Now I have a slight problem with switching the storage device from the phone to the memory card. I have read all of the instructions but when I do as told, data is deleted. It randomly switched devices while I was transferring photos onto my pc. If anyone has had this problem and can help, please do!! Rating:
Reviewed by Garth on 12-12-2005 I cannot understand why some people are giving this phone 1 star??!? Somebody even moaned about the memory which is expandable via a mini sd slot well hidden.
The camera is excellent, and although you don't get that many good ringtones, you can put your favourite mp3's on it and use them as ringtones. If you didn't receive software or a data cable in the package, you can get it on ebay for about £7 which will allow you to transfer videos, mp3's, pictures etc to and from your mobile.
I used to be anti motorola because i felt the texting was not user friendly.... yes unlike Nokia, but in fact iTap is better then T9, and it is not difficult anymore at all.
There are some disadvantages, however. The screen is clear and shows colours well, but for goodness sake motorola, learn from the Japanese, and Koreans. Everybody wants the TFT screen to be as big as possible, like a sharp or a panasonic. Also it is a bulky phone. I don't see the point of a thick aerial sticking in your side..... hide it. (again, ebay will help with a stubby)
In saying all of this.... for the money you spend, i don't think you will be dissapointed, oh and Nokia fans.... isn't it all a bit samey now?? push the boat out! Rating:

Reviewed by Vaughan on 23-11-2005 I bought the V635 in June 2005. A few weeks ago, it suddenly started dropping calls for no reason at all - both incoming and outgoing. It's been back to Motorola UK Repair Centre (SBE, Ashford, Kent) for 2 warranty repairs in the last 6 weeks. It came back after the latest repair on Saturday 19th Nov, and it's STILL dropping calls - and this is after firstly, a software upgrade, and the second time, a hardware and software upgrade. It makes me wonder just what the people at SBE are doing. Evidently, not a lot. In all other respects, the phone is attractive, it seems well built, and has a good screen display. But it is simply not reliable. And surely, that is the most important feature for a mobile phone - reliability. And by the way, Motorla's after sales care is very poor as well. They want the phone back at least 3 times for repair before they will even consider replacing it. And that's not replacing it with a new phone - oh no, just a "new" core, which has probably been re-conditioned. How bad is that! What would a brand new phone cost them? As a result, I have lost all confidence in Motorola as a brand - and as a company, which if you believe their own PR, claims to have a "total customer care" philosophy. Rubbish! I will NEVER consider, recommend or buy another Motorola. My old Nokia 7210, which I've been using whilst the V635 is being "repaired" has never let me down once..... Rating:

Reviewed by William Benkin on 25-10-2005 There apppears to be a mixed opinion about this phone and reviews seem to go from one extreme to the other.I sense that those who are disappointed with this phone are the types who spend all day texting/photo messaging their mates because they have nothing better to do and downloading inane wallpapers and ringtones to make themselves feel more popular and trendy. This phone is a good phone! The camera is of very sharp quality so much so that I have managed to download the pictures onto my pc and print them off. (this required extra software which I got from Motorola over the phone - cost about fifteen quid) But the resulting images are good enough for my photo album. Those reviewers who say the camera is blurry need to read the instruction manual or cut back on your coca-cola intake - you've got the shakes! I have had this phone for a year now and it has never let me down. It has good battery life, useful options for business purposes (calander and notes, addresses etc can be
shared with you home pc and synchronised with the software I have already mentioned). For pleasure it has entertaining games and checking the footy scores with the WAP thingy is pretty useful too. And as for those reviewers who slated the MP3 player, GO AND GET AN IPOD! Rating:

Reviewed by Paul Selby on 17-08-2005 This is without a doubt the worse phone i have ever had. It boasts a huge range of brilliant features, with great specifications, but in reality half of them don't work well. The "great camera" whilst being 1.3 megapixels, seems to more than not take blurry photo's, also, you have to go through far too much after having taken a photo to save it. Texting has also become painful, as it doesn't seem to be able to keep up with me, and i'm not exactly the fastest texter in the world. Battery sucks too, porrly made, back always falls off. sometimes doesn't send text msgs, but doesn't let you kno. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. get a samsung they rock. Rating:

Reviewed by Yoda - London on 26-07-2005 Overall build quality is good but it is let down by its inadequate programming. I don’t know about others but i found the sound quality (the most important thing for a phone) was very very poor. I could hear other people but others had problems hearing me. The MP3 player is a joke!! Why Motorola found it necessary to use a java program that takes 2 mins to load up just to play a song instead of a stand alone menu option is beyond me! After using Nokia’s for many years I found the v635 phone book was poorly programmed. Navigation took ALOT longer than on a Nokia. The camera was excellent, the best part of the phone, shame about the memory capacity. The fact that voice memos only last a maximum of 60 seconds and the clamshell had to be open to record was also annoying. This phone is also a nightmare when it comes to Bluetooth!!! Not only does it not send to Sony Eriksson, it does not pair with computers completely. DUN connections work but serial connections are non existent! Its also a shame Motorola hasn’t released any Bluetooth drivers after the v600 for palm devices. If u don’t use your phone for mush more than taking photos I am sure you will like this phone, but if your a regular user stay away! Rating:

Reviewed by Pierre on 20-07-2005 I bought the V635 a few days ago with the intent of using this phone for the next 2 or 3 years. My old phone had broken (antenna) and I needed a new phone in a hurry. The specs of the V635 are impressive and the on-line reviews are generally positive. This contributed -together with the brand name and the service provider of my choice supporting this phone - to my choice. Unfortunately, the service provider store does not have working phones on display. Only dummies. So, I could not try out the real phone before purchasing it. That proved to be a mistake. The buttons on the side are way too sensitive and simply carrying the phone in the pocket will trigger them. Why not make them such that the phone can actually be carried in a pocket? The phone is difficult to open with one hand. Why not add a small ridge on the cover, so it can be flipped open with one finger? There is a big issue made that the phone can take a memory card in addition to the on-board RAM. Great. But many functions are only available when the address is stored in the on-board RAM, thereby negating some of the advantages of having a RAM card. So now, the user has to juggle with the two types of RAM. Is technology not past this point by now? And why make the useless video "demos" (no doubt occuping on-board RAM) write protected, so the user cannot simply delete them and recover the RAM? The set-up is overly complicated. The manual is of no great help in setting up, as many items are either not described at all or only minimally described in the manual. For example, the section on e-mail informs the reader that this function can be used to send and receive e-mail (who wouldn't have guessed?). Nothing about setting up the phone for this function. It took 3 calls to the service provider for them to get it right. That's one example only. BTW, in case any support techs are reading this: the white piece of plastic at the top of the phone is an attachment point for a strap (not provided, and attachment point not mentioned in manual as far as I can tell), and not the USB port. And the reset functions are located under Initial Setup and not under Security (correctly described in manual). And I would hope that Motorola has other ways of trouble shooting this phone than to ask the customer, right at first, to do a Master Reset (and then not finding it - thankfully). Overall, I am disappointed with my purchase. The phone has great specs. But a phone should be more than a list of specs. That includes general usability, ergonomics, setting-up, manual, software (none provided), etc. Considering the price range of this phone a give it 1 star. If it were in a lower price range I would give it 2 stars. I haven't decided yet if I will try to repair the antenna on my old phone and keep it, and close my new contract. Or if I will keep the new phone/contract despite the aggravation. Rating:

Reviewed by Tish on 08-04-2005 I brought the V635 on 20th Feb, I have had no end of problems, Text, Pic, when I've sent them my friends don't get em, have to keep turning my Phone on an off so that it sends messages. Have been intouch with Tmobile they send the settings but I don't receive them along with most of the messages my friends send. Don't know if its the handset thats rubbish or T-mobile? I have a Samsung D500 Now thats a Great phone, easy to use great sound, pics etc and I don't have to keep turning it on an off to send an receive messages! Rating:

Reviewed by Frankie on 27-03-2005 The V635 is unbeatable. No problems like with the buggy V600. Different to Nokias, especially takes a couple of days to find your way around the menus and the phoneboook is different, but it's not bad, just different. Once you've got used to it you'll never go back to Nokia, believe me. This phone has such amazing features, it's got eveything you could want in a mobile. Rating:
