I have had the motorola U9 for allmost 3 years, and it's still in good condition, with only a few scratches. The exterior screen is what makes the phone - i still don't feel that it's too outdated. it's never frozen, allthough it takes while to turn on. i'd highly recommend it for anyone, with it's pretty shape and colour, i love it!

The keys are slow and unresponsive and the text feature isn't very intuitive. Totally regret wasting my money. don't buy it!!

I have had this phone for 18m and I have generally been happy with it. As mentioned by others it did occasionally freeze but this was rectified by removing the battery and replacing it. It has been a good functional phone . It does look good but after 18m it is now a little tired looking. It is easy to text with and take photographs . I added a 2gb memory card so it can store loads ..

I've got my U9 for about two months now. The external surface hasn't got a scratch so far; although it tends to show fingerprints or anything, but u can clean that up very easily by moistering it with your breath and rubbing it against your clothes. The battery doesn't last longer than two and a half days, really, I've tried everything, turning the screen brightness to zero, plus taking off the screensaver, plus turning off the bluetooth, plus using it the least possible... but it's been useless, its battery simply won't last longer than two and a half days (IF it gets to last two and a half). It does freezes sometimes, but for about 4 to 5 seconds. It has happened once that it froze completely and I had to remove the battery to be able to turn the phone off and restart it, but I reckon that happened because I set the bluetooth to start up while I was turning off the music. Video and pictures resolutions are acceptable for a 2 mp camera. I can't get it to download the videos and pictures to my computer so that is the one thing that actually annoys me as well as not letting me upload videos from the computer. Uploading music into the U9 is really easy though. Cool design, great sound, light, small, optimized voice recognizer, great and fast bluetooth and USB connection, plus it charges while connected to the computer. Another problem is that the music player turns off when used with the wired headset after about 5 to 10 minutes, don't know why yet; but I intend to get it checked out. It works just great and perfect with the "Motorola-H500-Bluetooth-handsfree-headset", for every feature, even for the voice recognizer and the music player, they work great together, just as if you were using the phone itself. Its calendar and other reminders are excellent, I've even felt tempted to put away my organizer. Summarizing; the problems are: freezes (for less than 10 seconds), doesn't download videos nor pictures through the USB connection, short life battery (2 days).

This phone is pretty good, to be honest. Good quality pictures and videos, nice colour, good quality music playback and it's a great size. The only problem I seem to have is transferring pictures from the phone to my computer, but I am sure there is a solution to that. It's a great improvement from my old V3.

Swapped this phone to upgrade to a LG Cookie, but I loved it and was sad to see it go. It was a gorgeous phone, and the keypad was a joy to use. Also, the lack of a USB cable was not a problem for me as I had a MicroSD card that could connect to my PC via a memory card reader, and it held everything I - a teenage girl - needed it to. I am deducting a star because the phone does occasionally freeze - mostly when you are going through menus quite quickly. Got on my nerves, but wasn't a major problem. And my LG Cookie has the same problem, but not as often and generally when ending a call or going back to the widget screen.

I have a motorola u9 i bought it last xmas, it is a nice phone, but the trouble i seem to have with it is,,, the txt writing is very small, and not havig great eye-sight, i find it extremely difficult to read. I have been in touch with motorola to see if the txt can be made larger or bolder, but i am told it can't. If it was not for this, i would find the phone great, but obviously you cannot test the txt before you buy. (shame) The battery life is pretty good in comparison to my nokia, that doesnt seem to last a day, and i dont use it that much.

I had this phone but changed it for the LG Cookie in June, which was a BAD MOVE. In my opinion, even though the U9 was getting on my nerves (more on that in a sec) the LG Cookie is only marginally better. Anyway. Like reviews have said, this phone did freeze and I would have to constantly take the battery out and put it back in again, but nothing major. The camera, although only 2mp, was surprisingly good (better than LG Cookie) and the phone was absolutely gorgeous! If you are looking for a cheap phone (I presume this phone will be quite cheap now) that looks modern then I recommend this.

I bought this model in Bombay, India, in Sept 2008. And there seems to be a design defect in it. I am having problem with this piece since I bought. Within 2 weeks, its flap would not open smoothly. I found that the corner of the band (which goes round the sides of the phone) is sticking out and eventually broke off. I took it to a Motorola service centre, and they said I’ll have to pay for the repairs, as the damaged part was not covered in the warrantee. I agreed. But they eventually did it free of cost as they saw many customers coming with the SAME defect (11 on the same day as mine!). After repairs, the flip top worked smoothly. Now, after 5 months, the same problem is happening again…and I am at my wits end!! And yes, not to add that the battery life is appalling and the phone keeps turning itself off.

I got this phone for my birthday last february, after liking the cute design, style and colour. The camera was quiet good and I loved the touch screen music player. Although the memory wasn't very good it was fine with a memory card. However after a while i found that the phone began to freeze often or would be slow in loading things. Then it began to say 'insert sim card' when the sim was already in. At first this was easily fixed by reinserting the sim, but it began to happen more and more frequently and eventually stopped working. I wouldn't recommend this phone as my friend also had the same problem with hers.

I think this is a really good phone! The camera is pretty good, but it depends on the lighting, it is also not very good in natural daylight. It freezes occasionally(sorry if i spelt that wrong!) and if you try to play something or open something it takes a quite a long time to open/play. There is a touch screen on the front and you can also see the the time and an external screensaver. I tranfer music on it from the computer via bluetooth but you might want to do it another way. There was no USB cable in the box but there might be one in your box because it said that it should of came with a usb cable. If you are thinking of buying this fone then go for it. All in all i think this phone is really good and i would give it a 9/10, and that is a VERY good score considering i am only 10 years old. I hope you take my reveiw into account and ihope you are as pleased with this mobile phone as i am.

Easily scratching the shiny area so it loses its glory very quickly.

Switched to Motorola after being a life long Nokia fan. First got this phone 15 months ago - no complaints until about 6 months in when, as everyone says, it has started freezing. Will sometimes take 10mins to be able to use the menu from turning on (at it's worst it freezes completely and only way to turn off/on is to take battery out), quite often freezes mid menu, and have recently started suffering from poor key response - very frustrating if, like me, you are a big texter. Am finding it now takes 5 minutes longer than usual to write a text as have to keep retyping words due to the poor keypad. Disappointing really - cool phone to look at, functionality for music is fantastic, and after first couple of months loved it to bits but am now tearing my hair out and looking to switch as soon as possible.

Phone is slow between menu, there's always a confirm menu, text input is very hard because you'll always get to touch the wrong key 3. Scratch almost by looking at it and always look dirty because of fingerprints 4. The date doesn't appear on top. 5. The reception is weaker than my old Sony 6. Beside the difficulty to input text for sms : there are many unwanted space, friend of mine showed the result to me : not the way I typed it... never happened to me before with other phone 7. I'm in America, and I love this phone. It's pretty, girly and so far nothing comparable in the States. Who cares if the phone can only hold 3-4 songs? That's what memory/SD cards are for. If you want something for more thana casual music player, buy an ipod. I don't understand why they put Sudoku on the phone, (seriously, wtf?), but I figured a work around for that too. Cingular/At&t's Media Mall doesn't support this phone (maybe b/c UK vs US?) but I just popped my SIM card and memory card into my old phone, downloaded the games to the memory card, then popped both back into the phone. Most super girly phones are going to scratch, especially one as sensitive as this. Don't just drop it in your purse/pocket with you keys, etc. Drop it into the built in pouch and no more worries. As far as the quick keys/shortcut menu, there is a way to configure the home keys to whatever you want (messages, pix, calculator, etc), and this is somewhere in the phone settings (I for get where). It is a little slower to respond than I like or am used to, but overall I love this phone.

My husband bought me a purple (favourite colour) U9 last year and I love it. We were both amazed with the touch screen MP3 player and the sound is excellent. The headset supplied with the phone is also great. If listening to music and a call or messaged comes through, the song is placed on hold until the call or message is answered or ignored. The song then resumes at same position. The headset can also be used to make calls by voice activation and is great for cancelling out unwanted background noises. I agree with some of the negative points above re. scratching and freezing, however the positive aspects far outweigh the negatives. The U9 is a very user friendly phone; which is fun and easy to use and very pretty looking as well.

The phone freezes all the time, sometimes just because it feels like it and other times because it had been put on charge or because I have got a text message. It turns itself off when I change my alert style and I had it on charge all day, took it off when I went to bed and then at 5am it starts making low battry noises and turns itself off. It constantly freezes for ages and sometimes goes off by itself. If battery goes low (1 bar out of 3... not in the red) it jams and wont work until you plug it in. The most unreliable phone I ever had! Photos are of very poor quality and no flash which means forget about using it on a night out or in poor light.Ring tone is also quiet low. I had this phone in the shiny purple and its a fantastic phone to look at. Unfortunately it scratches and chips very easily which spoils the look of the phone so a case or a phone sock is an absolute must. Camera was pretty average and no USB cable is supplied which I think is poor. When I enquired in the O2 shop about this I was told USB cables are being phased out with wireless and bluetooth being readily available but I couldnt get my laptop to transfer songs to it this way. And every other mobile I have had before and since comes with a USB cable. Also the memory is rubbish so further expense on a memory card is essential. After a while it started to freeze, screen would randomly go black and I was forever having to take battery out and put it back in to get phone functioning again. Eventually the freezing problem got so bad I had to go out and buy another phone. Looks amazing but usability is zero.

However if you want a fast, slick phone which will do loads of things at once, then I wouldn't buy this phone. It has plenty of features but if you use them, the phone tends to freeze. The music player is great, but mine will only let me store music directly to the phone, therefore I can only have 3 songs. The touch screen however, is brilliant. Buy this phone if it is your first phone or if you are looking for a phone just for leisure. However, if you want a work phone or a very fast phone do not get this phone. I don't think it will fulfill your needs. I am completely happy with this phone!

If you just want to make calls, send txts, listen to music & take the odd pic, then this is the perfect phone. You can listen to music & read & answer texts without even having to open the phone thanks to the funky external touch screen. I have a 8GB Memory Card in mine (purchased from play.com for just £9.49) so have loads of music at my finger tips all day, wherever I am. Downloading music couldn't be easier. Simply rip all the music straight from cds/mp3s to windows media player & then sync to your phone (via a usb cable). I don't agree that it is a girlie phone though. Yes fair enough the pink/purple models are pretty girlie but the Black one is a really good looking pho ne that is ideal for guys or gals. This phone is quite compact & light too. I love personalizing my contacts & have different tunes & pics for all my fav contacts. Battery life is good. I get 2-3 days out of mine & I listen to music, am a very frequent texter & talk a lot on the phone. Music playback quality is very good both through the earphones & through the speaker. The only let down is the camera. As a 2mp without flash it is not the best. However I rarely use the camera so it is not a problem for me. All round this phone scores very highly with me. It is quite cheap to buy now too. There are plenty of bargain U9's out there now both on ebay & currently in the Argos sale they are less than £50.

I have had this phone since August. It does freeze for no reason sometimes but I suppose all phones can't be perfect. The camera is good for a 2mp phone, texting is fine, and the memory is great. The touch screen is really good aswell and has a quick response. But I would suggest to get a cover as the phone does scratch quite easily.

What a waste of money! I bought one for myself and mum. After one month, mine was freezing, and regularly said no sim card inserted. I bought a memory card as I wanted to take the phone on holiday with me and use it was an mp3 player, and at the time it was fine, but after a few weeks the flaws of the phone showed. The layout of the keys, in that the delete and send button are next to each other is poor, i regularly send messages half written. Although the outside of the phone looks impressive, it doesnt last long. Positives: + looks nice + good value for money (providing it works alright) Negatives: - freezes regularly - says no sim card inserted - poor layout of the keys - turns itself off - outside screen scratches VERY easily. ~do NOT buy this phone if you want it to last!~

The U9 is a good all rounder phone if youre looking for something simple or perhaps a starter phone for your teenage daughter. The thing that attracts people to the U9 is the lovely edgeless screen on the front cover which alot of people dont realise is there and are amazed by! yes its quite pretty, but it scratches easily and in direct sunlight its a bit pointless because you cant see whats on it anyway! the phones features are not the highest of specification, with a poor quality camera at only 2mgpx there are a few other under £100 phones that have atleaast 3mpx. The phone is also very sluggish and not very responsive when you press the buttons. And often freezes or overheats when youre on the phone. The battery cover is also extremely hard to get off quickly which can be annoying when youre desperately trying to get the battery out! Also my U9 is unable to receive picture messages which i really miss! ive recently had a Nokia 7373 and a Samsung Tocco and would put the U9 right in the middle. Nokia 7373 is the best girlie phone Ive had! so if you want a pink girlie phone go for that! otherwise be prepared for a non responsive phone like the U9 which doesnt have that many good features about it. ive given 3 stars because it does have good wallpapers/screensavers and a good music player/speaker.

I got it for my birthday and found it easy to use.Loved the backgrounds and the tones and the external screen!! Touch sensitive, niceee! Bu now I really want to download music on my phone. But the memory is really rubbish.. I can only fit 5 songs so I need a memory card and a USB cable as Motorola don't even provide one! But otherwise I love my little pink phone even though youi are right it sratches easily xx

Beautiful phone. The invisible external screen is its best feature! Camera's kind of weak.. but on the plus side u can use it while the phone isn't open. It did freeze occasionally but I've noticed this can happen when you store a lot of music on a phone.. dunno, maybe not found a good one yet! The lack of radio is the only other problem .. other than that it's very easy to use and pretty so would still get it again.. mine got stolen a couple days ago :( looking for a new phone.. any suggestions?

The only thing going for this phone is that it looks pretty. Other than that, it's pretty useless. Texting is fiddly (but maybe that's because I'm used to Nokias?), and like others have said, it is SO easy to send an unfinished text or delete it all together. Freezes loads and takes ages for the keys to respond. But the worst part is that my phone recently started to turn itself off. This was useually when the battery was low. It used to warn me about an hour in advance when the battery was going to die, then after about three months of having it it would just give one warning beep then die completely! Then it stopped charging all together and so I sent it to the Motorols repair centre for fixing. I hope they sort the fault (luckily it's free), but to be honest, I just want a new phone. This one's just a waste of money - I don't know why they released this model with so many problems.

NO NO NO NO!!! Do not buy one of these phones, yes they are lovely to look at, but that is it. The cable to link the phone to your computer, and the phonetools disk do not come with the phone, neither does a memory card which believe me, you will need as the phone will only hold one song otherwise. That all cost nearly £40.00 on top of the price of the phone. But I have had two of these both, first one did not link with my computer at all, and the second one just goes off mid phone call or text. I have been assured I will be getting the refund for the second phone. However the extra items I have had to purchase, Motorola will not refund me for, even though the items are useless to me without the mobile. Motorola gave me the name of the company and said they were the only Company to sell these items, but are refusing to take any responsibility whatsoever for the fact that a) The phone won't do what it is supposed to without them and b) they themselves told me to purchase the items from this Company. Avoid Motorola Customer Services at all cost. I will not be buying a Motorola phone again!!!
