Motorola L6 Review

Rating:
Date: 15/12/2006
The Motorola L6 is a super slim entry level camera phone. It is a good size candy bar phone with a thickness of only 10.9 mm and weighs only 86g.
The camera is a VGA camera with 4 x digital zoom and video capabilities which is typical for a phone within this price range.
It has an STN display rather then a TFT which means that it is not as bright and would be harder to see in bright conditions. The resolution is 128 x 160 pixels and it supports 65k colours.
If you are looking for a phone with a music player this phone is not for you. It does not play MP3's or have an FM radio however it is capable of using MP3 tones as ringtones with a 24-voice polyphonic sound. Memory is also quite limited with only 10MB of internal memory although as it doesn't have an MP3 player this is a good amount.
The L6 connects to the internet using GPRS which is a good speed for data transfer. It has an excellent battery life with 345 hours of standby time. The phone works on a tri-band network meaning it will work in Europe and America.
Overall, for the price you pay, this is a very good phone with some standard features for a good budget phone. We would recommend it to you if you are looking for a simple yet stylish phone. If you require something with a little more to offer in terms of features, then we would recommend you have a look at the L7, however this is more expensive.

Features of the Motorola L6 include:

  • Camera: 4x zoom
  • Display: 128 x 160, 65K color CSTN
  • Ringtones: MP3 ring tones
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth® wireless technology, mini-USB
  • Memory: Up to 10MB of end user embedded memory
  • Messaging: SMS, MMS
  • Internet: WAP 2.0
  • Talk Time: Up to approximately 350 minutes
  • Standby: Up to approximately 345 hours
  • Operating Frequency: Tri band (GSM 900/1800/1900)
  • Size: 113 x 49 x 10.9 mm
  • Weight: 86g

I brought this phone 2 weeks ago for my sister for christmas and ive set it up got her so it is ready for her to use on x-mas day and I say this phone is good. The point of this phone is it is stylish ok, this aint a phone with exepensive features i mean if you want a camera go buy a camera if you want a mp3 player buy an ipod stop thinking you get like £1k worth of technology in a phone and for it to be the dogs. THis phone is fine its made for people who want a stylish phone to make calls and txt which this does is fine, all this rubbish about features at the end of the day you dont need them and if you brought this phone thinking you were getting a good camera etc then more fool you, its a good phone it does what its made to do make calls and txt which is what mobiles phones are primerally for ok not all this seapping pic, vids and ringtones rubbish.

Im gonna tell you about everything on the phone. The camera is actually quite good if its in outdoor light. The video camera is a bit blotchy and only records 34 seconds, it also only records in like half the screen. The sound quality is quite good but when you put earphones in, the music is VERY VERY loud and its hard to find the volume control. There is like no space on the phone, you can buy a memory card but its pure expensive. Its cool the way you can organise the menu the way you want. Its practically indestructible apart from the back panel. The keys are fine with cool luminous outline. The texts are fine but not very long. Its a practical, quite easy to work phone with a nice design. If you want this phone i think you should reconsider and pick another but if you are one of these people who only wants it to phone people and nuthing else, then i reccomment it!

The pink colour is absolutly great and it doesn't get chipped/scratched easily, but the only problem is that the the screen resolution was a let down, the camera and memory rubbish. There should of been mp3's, better screen quality and this fone would beon the high market... big time, but otherwise, everything is cool.

After I had my "Sony Ericsson 800i" stolen, through my sun-roof of my car!!!!!!!!!, I decided to buy a stop-gap phone until my insurance paid out, so I went for the Motorola L6, I have to say, I have owned a lot of mobiles over the years and the L6 has to be the best of the lot, one thing I did find was the weight, I thought it seemed to be a little heavy, but I have since found (according to the manual)that is actually lighter than the "800i", but one thing is for sure, I think I will keep the L6 for the near future, because it has everything I need and it only cost me £49.99 from the link (pay-as-you-go).

For goodness sake, why are people saying that this is a rubbish phone?! DUH! It's so perfect. I got it in pink. Some people that this phone has poor camera quality but how can that be true when you can change the settings to Automatic, Sunny, Indoor, etc. I don't care what people say about this phone. And the memory is not a problem seeing as I have managed to get loads of files on anyway. So whoever says that this phone is rubbish is lying and doesn't know what they are missing.

Just got this phone recently after debating on whether to get this or the Nokia 6070. And I have to say I made the right choice. It is sleek, stylish, and serves its functions well. The camera, although non-megapixel, is good - I'll buy a digicam if I need excellent quality pix. At first I was tentative about the memory. I mean, 10MB shared among all the data? How will I fit the MP3's I wanted to use as my ringtones? I may have just found a way! What you have to do is convert your MP3 file into into 40kbps stream so the size will go down. You can barely recognize the difference from the higher kbps stream MP3's. The call and SMS functionality are just like any other phone so there is nothing to complain or praise about that... But the biggest difference that let me choose this over the 6070 is the Bluetooth. I read somewhere that the BT is slow or it isn't working... to hell with you guys, it works fine. I've been moving files to and from my phone to my PC for the past two we eks and there hasn't been any snag. Of course it will SEEM slow if the file you're moving is gargantuan! Any other data-transfer device will take time to transfer large files, you know! All I know is that for it's price (it costs around $100), it is a phone with great features. I've gotten nothing but praises from people since I got this phone. Probably one negative comment but that guy didn't know any better.

I bought this phone in January this year and at first i was excited about it. After a while though i was less pleased. The camera is very poor and so is the video camera. When you touch the phone you can see there is a lack of quality as the plastic is cheap and fragile. My friend has the L7 and you notice that it is much better built. The l6 is a good phone to start off with and is very reliable, but if you want something you can be proud of, i would recommend you look else where.

the motorola l6 is slim and nice to hold, but many of the reviews don`t mention the fact that this phone is very pc friendly. coupled with motorola phone software you can transfer mp3 files and 3g files to and from your pc with ease via a usb lead. the usb socket on the phone is the same as your digital camera or tom tom sat nav and the phone charges itself from your computer while you are transfering files, get this phone from orange main dealers as you can buy it for fifty quid if you trade in your old phone. the camera and video modes are good and battery life is around 6 days unless you use the video a lot then around 4 days. as the razr opens out to the size of a housebrick the l6 is a nicer phone to use and very good value for money.

Ok. Well this phone definitely has a lot of features for its price. I'm downgrading from a Samsung E530 which had fantastic screen colours and sharpness. Then again, it was almost 200 quid more expensive. SO! On the whole it's a good little phone, I love how thin and light it is, and think it looks pretty cool, but still, reminds me of the old brick mobiles of the 80s n 90s. I think the camera and video quality suck, but the phone is super cheap and if you only want to grab a quick reminder I guess there ok. I'm still not keen on the actual screen and camera functions because of the downgrade, but for the price it is a great phone

Good if you just want a phone but bad if you like putting videos and songs onto your phones.

The l6 was a phone that Motorola made to be cheap but still have all the latest features. People that complain about the camera I see nothing wrong with it, it is just people expect so much out of £70. But for the picture quality those people want your looking at £200+ phones but to be honest would u take a camera phone on a holiday trip instead of a home video camera. I would give the L6 10/10 for price and the look, and features. For people who say you would go for features then style you stay with your brick :). But if u want more features such as a big memory go for it's new counterpart the L7.
