ive had the phone now for well over 4 years, so a good workout! at the time i was looking at the P910i, after which i was shown this one as it was much cheaper at the time. certainly not the worst decision ive made in my life. ive left the phone in the rain once, had a mini-puddle on my screen, let the phone dry naturally, and it worked just as well as before. other times i have dropped it and it just comes back for more. however, maybe due to age, its starting to crash a lot more. if i drop it, it re-boots. camera is poor in low light and at night, but i got used to it and brought a proper camera. it has crashed on me as well when the memory got full, so lesson learnt and not repeated. never has anyone in my family had a phone that has lasted this well, this long, and for that i love it! oh and i have used the word viewer software. its good, but fiddly to get right. now awaiting the a3100!

2 batteries, 3 providers and 3 years later I'm still using my A1000 - There's nothing that's come along which provides a better overall feature set. The phone had a few quirks but almost all of those have been eliminated by (unofficial) firmware upgrades. Between GPS and some cheap navigation software plus the excellent freeware "Metro" package I'm able to get around easily while driving AND navigate fairly effectively using public transport systems in most major towns/cities. Texting is a bit fiddly due to the fidly virtual keyboard, but that's my only major criticism (that and I lost the joystick knob (it works better without!) plus the stylus a year or so ago..) MOTOROLA: when are you going to provide a worthy sucessor to this wonderful tool? mine is rather beaten about, but I love it.

I received this phone as an upgrade on 3. I was new to MDA phones but have really taken to this little beauty and have had it for over 18mths. I have purchesed a new one(ebay). I have found that it does lock up but all you do is buy a transflash card for a tenner and store all your stuff on that. This phone does everything, I can connect via bluetooth to my Kenwood car radio for hands free dialing, very easy to do, just pair it and each time I get in it connects automatically. I concur that this type of phone is very easy to use, you just need to get used to it. It's stereo and I have purchased a converter from Hong Kong, two for a fiver, to plug it into my hifi at work using the built-in MP3 player. Pictures are good the 1.2 camera does well. The contract I have now is £20pm still on 3, 750/150 +50mms +50video +£5 downloads, 3 is the best network there is for overall service and vfm. Even their help desk (India) is much better than it was. They had to get better and they did! All in all get one, if you can.

I have had this phone for 8 months now and have had no problems with it until now, the phone just froze up on me and when I turned it off and turned it back on again nothing happens other than seeing the motorola sign at start up. Which I realise after reading these other reviews was down to lack of memory which I know to be true as I had low memory. I tried to use the SIM in another phone to get to my contacts but as with this phone you can use word or number pin passwords, mine had a word so I couldnt be used on another phone. This is the worst possible time it could have happened, I have friends coming down for the weekend from 200 miles away and no way of contacting them to make arrangements. But anyway other than that the phone is great.

very god phone, with loads of good functions, reasonably quick and battery life is pretty good. Only problem is the middle joystick, it falls off if not treated with a lot of care, but you can get a replacement very easily, very cheaply. Also i recommend buying a memory card if you want to put any songs or videos on as if u fill up the memory too much, it slows the phone down a lot, but with a memory card, this problem is solved.

the phone is very large, the screen is easily damaged, the phone will freeze up at any time for no reason, the head phones on mine do not fit very well so you cannot listen to music with them.i got mine on 3 had to suffer thier extremely poor customer relations ,if there was a minus point they would get it.do not go on this net work if you travel alot or it is your emergency phone as the reception in parts of the county is not very good, i have had no reception or dropped calls even in residential parts of my home town. in short i could not recomend this phone or 3 to anyone.

WOW! This is an upgrade from my Motorola A835 and it is great. It is amazing, has all the great features- 1.3 MP video/picture capture-Full screen vieing option (fantastic!!!) PDA. Easy connection to PC (USB OR BLUETOOTH OR OTHER) (LOUD!) MP3 Player (i don't need my MP3 player anymore!) And way more to much to list..But one of the best thing is storage- You can get up to 1GB storage on it, if u buy the 1GB Card, which is WELL worth getting (Ebay). 256MB is also good! The only let down is the battery (with heavy use it will last about a day or two) But i don't mind that so much i think it is the best phone i've ever owned. If you like gadgets you're going to like this!

I had the A1000 in June 2005, the navigator button has fallen off but that is all. As I was due for a free upgrade on 3 by May 2006, I opted for another A1000! This phone is superb. Has all the things you need and more... As for those who call it a 'brick' well they are ignorant to the fact that this has it all and some. In fact, this mobile is actually thin in comparison to some handsets. Texts are so easy to enter, no more fumbling for letters as you are displayed a whole keypad plus it 'guesses' words to help you. As someone who has regularily upgraded to the next handset, this is one hard to beat. 10 stars, well done Moto.

The phone was great to start with but as time went on it started to fail. For starters the software is hugely un reliable, my phone decided to erase my contacts and messages not once but twice in a month and the operating system gets slow and laggy when you stretch it. The durability of the phone is also rather dubious. The front button comes off easily if your phone lives in your jeans as mine does, whilst the stylus also has a habit of falling apart. This brings me onto further problems with the network. If you want anything fixed on your Motorola A1000 be prepared for a long and complicated process. After several phone calls and endless minuites waiting to speak to someone I found from Motorola that 3 own all warranties for this particular phone and are therefore personally liable for any warranty related repairs. And to add salt to the wound... the warranty doesnt cover the stylus because "it isnt part of the phone". Simply, the Motorola A1000 is a victim of over complication. Whilst the gadgets are all good fun the novelty wares off very quickly. Also, the network that offers the handset "3" leave much to be desired. The customer service is poor and they seemed reluctant to help when problems arose.

The phone is actually quite useful for the Picsel Viewer (which allows you to look - but not edit - Word and Excel files). It does pretty much what it promises to do, although camera/video is not good in low lighting. As a phone I have not had any problems between February and October, then BANG!! The screen froze and that was it - phone dead. 3 refused to fix/replace under warranty and sent their infamous letter which they send when you are 7-8 months into the contract. They offered to fix at a charge (£130) or upgrade (nothing free)!! Many expensive calls later and nothing. Bought a replacemnent on EBAY. When the contract comes up I am back to O2 and will never be a 3 customer again.

I have had two different phones from Three, they have all gone wrong and after being fixed gone wrong again! Three sent me this A1000 as a free upgrade. The phone seems to work o.k., although it did freeze once while trying to adjust the volume during a call. The battery life SUCKS!! I do not use the phone that much, but have to charge the bloody thing up every second day! The PDA function seems to be good, I had a Nokia Communicator once, and the Motorola calendar is much better. I think this phone would be great on a different network, but it is spoiled by being locked to Three. The only good thing about three is that you can get loads of minutes free in your tarrif.

Got the phone for about 5 days, and I like it. I wanted to have a phone with PDA functionality, and I am not disappointed at all. This has everything I should ever need from such a phone, (if I need more I take my notebook...). Well the provider... Three suxx. I have never ever seen any providers locking their network content. What is it useful for? Are they really making money of selling a weather forecast for 25p? Who wants to pay for such stuff? Anyway, considering that it was free, and enormous amount of free minutes come with my package, it did worth it. If you need a camera-phone/mp3-player/pda/topgadget, then buy it, but if you want to browse the internet with it, do not. I wonder when is the 256M transflash is released for it? I think 128M is pretty small for such functions. I give it a 4, but only because of the provider. I still think that it would deserve a 5 at some other company.
