LG Chocolate KG800
Product Rating
LG Chocolate KG800 ReviewRating: Date: 14/12/2006 The LG Chocolate KG800 is a top of the range sliding phone. It has an award wining unique design with a heat sensitive touch pad that glows red to show you where to press. With the keypad being heat sensitive, it prevents items in your pocket or bag from activating it, and when not in use the touch pad disappears to leave a clean exterior finish. The phone has a camera with 1.3 megapixels, 4 x digital zoom and a flash to enable photos to be taken in poor lighting, and with video recording capabilities you are also able to record short clips. The features of this camera are average when compared to other top of the range phones as there are some excellent camera phones available such as the Sony Ericsson K790i, which has 3.2 megapixels as well as a Xenon flash, autofocus and video capabilities. The KG800 has a good TFT Display which is very bright and viewable in sunshine. It has a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels and supports 262k colours. It has an MP3 player that supports a wide range of other formats such as AAC, AAC+, AAC++ and WMA. The dedicated key around the edge of the phone will launch the phone into music player mode and you are able to control the music being played with the touch pad or the inline remote control supplied with the headset. MP3's are also supported for ringtones. Memory for the phone is quite good with 128MB of internal memory; however there is no option to expand this with an external memory card so if you are serious about storing a lot of music or other files this will limit you. Connectivity is very good with the two main options available, Bluetooth and USB. With Bluetooth you are able to wirelessly connect to another Bluetooth device up to 10 meters apart. The USB cable allows you to connect to a PC and with this you are able to use your phone as a mass storage device which enables you to drag and drop files such as music, photos and videos etc straight onto your phone from your PC. Internet connection is disappointing in comparison to other phones of this price range, the KG800 uses GPRS data transfer rates which are significantly slower then EDGE or 3G (which can be three times faster or more respectively). The battery life of the phone is below average with only 200 hours of standby time. It supports Tri-band operating frequency which means it will work in Europe and America. Overall, this is an extremely stylish phone with a beautiful chocolate brown smooth finish, it's definitely one of the coolest phones to have but if you require something with a bit more functionality, this is not the phone for you as the features are pretty much standard for a top of the range phone and for your money you can get something that offers more. With a few complaints about the poor battery life and the sensitive keypad amongst other niggles from users, this is not a phone that we are recommending.

Reviewed by lou on 15/12/2006 Where to start... i did love this phone great small compact after upgrading from my brick the nokia n70. It doesnt have all the great features, but its not bad... depends about what you use your phone for? Camera is ok, music is good. Battery life is fine. Its what you should expect tbh! I liked the touch pad, mine was fine. However mine is now being repaired, with a broken lcd screen! And yes i have had to pay for this :( Had dropped it slightly a couple of times, not much.... but i stress on the day it broke it had not been dropped at all... just cold outside. I just think there a little flimsy abit like the nanos prone to small scratches and screen problems! So when it comes back, the coolness will be covered with a protected case.. until i get a new phone! This is the first time i have had repair problems with a phone, so im sure its not just me :@ Rating:
Reviewed by buddy 3 on 14/12/2006 Ok, my best mate has just got this phone and i LOVE it and want my own one. Admittedly, the touch keys are slightly difficult to get used to, but once you get used to them it'll be fine. Also, the camera is better than most other phones that aren't specifically designed as a camera, and the speakers are AMAZING!! Seriously, they are brilliant, and with the headphones the quality improves even more. This phone has everythings, and i love it lots and lots and lots. 4 stars becuase she's only had it like one day. Rating:
Reviewed by jarrod on 13/12/2006 Got the phone for the missus today... new from o2. She just switched it on, tried to set up a ringtone she liked and message alert tone.... then BANG... the damn thing switched off and now wont work. Going to get a samsung z400 for her instead. Rating:
Reviewed by bex on 13/12/2006 I absolutely love this gorgeous little pink phone! Had it a week now and I don't have any complaints. Looks and feels great, its a good weighty little phone, doesn't feel cheap like others. The camera is really good quality and the mp3 player is great, 26 tunes on it so far. Was worried when I fell for this phone then read some pretty bad reviews, but I should not have feared, it has everything I wanted from a phone and more. Very very happy customer! Rating:
Reviewed by Stegill on 12/12/2006 Looks great but does not work. Service from LG UK is the worst I have ever witnessed from a consumer company. Their Techs even commented that there was a major problem with the keypads and camera, but did not have any spare parts to repair them. Looks can deceive. Don't buy this phone. Rating:

Reviewed by John Portsmouth on 09/12/2006 This phone is absolute rubbish. why would anyone buy it. the touch sensitive key pad on the lg doesn't work and it doesn't charge properly. i went back to the shop i got it from after a week and swapped it for another touch sensitive phone, the Samsung E900, and i have found that it is so much better and... IT WORKS! DON'T BUY THIS PHONE UNLESS YOU WANT TO YELL AT IT FOR NOT WORKING ALL DAY LONG!
if i could give this phone a zero i would. it is absolutely rubbish. for a start the touch sensitive keys don't work properly and the mp3 player is so bad you can't hear it and the battery span lasts for an hour ! i can't believe people actually like this phone. i had it for 3 days and went back to the shop i got it from and swapped it for the E900 which is a muuch better phone and ...IT ACTUALLY WORKS! how can people diss it when their phone (lg chocolate) doesn't even work ? it takes pictures in your pocket for gods sake ! if you want a touch sensitive phone go for the E900. Samsung make phones that actually work AND look good. lg doesn't make either !!!!!! Rating:
Reviewed by Blondechoc on 08/12/2006 Don't be deceived, looks aren't everything. My daughter and I got our phones on free upgrade from T Mobile in July 2006. No probs at first but they both started to get temper!mental after a couple of months. Neither are working at all at the moment, mine just displays a white screen and hers is fragmented so it's back to the store for repairs .... again! When they do work they seem to dislike the cold and refuse to work when you need them too. Vid and Cam seemed fine for our purposes but the unreliability means having to take a camera to events as well. Before the white screen appeared and I couldn't use it at all I was able to text and make outgoing calls only problem there was I couldn't hear anything my end! When it does work it has a habit of phoning people and taking photos all by itself. We've both had to start using our old nokia's again and appreciate some of the things we'd been missing like reliability, speakerphone, easy texting, ok so they don't look so good but they actually work. Depsite the probs I've had people who've seen it still want one!!! even when they've loaned theirs to me to make a call because mine didn't work?! Rating:

Reviewed by Nic on 29/11/2006 I got the pink one today and must say, so far I'm really impressed! Loving the colour-it's so vibrant and girly and the 2-tone keypad is very unique. I was a bit aprehensive after reading some of the reviews on here but so far I can't find anything to complain about. The touch screen is great, very easy to use but I can imagine guys would have a problem with it coz their thumbs are bigger!! I also don't have a problem with the ring volume coz I tried it earlier and it seems plenty loud. The box it comes in is really nice - I was well impressed! It also comes with a cute wee pouch to put it in. The menus are really easy to use too. I was a bit worried about that after mainly having nokias but the menus are fine! The keypad automatically locks after a few seconds so no need to worry about it making random calls in ur bag...or pocket...Altogether I'm really pleased with it and I think it's great value for money. Reviewed by Laura on 16/10/2006 i recommend this phone to all you people who want a beautiful looking, amazing phone!!! BEST EVER!!!!to all u people who moan at tiny things like "the batterys rubbish" or "the memorys bad" youre wrong. the phone may need charging every few days but whats the harm in charging it everynight before you go to bed. and the memory is very good wayyy better than my last phone, the lg stores over 25 isnt that enough for your favourite songs?. And this phone doesnt look chavvy at all it is the best looking phone ever its even won an award. And the phone shouldnt scratch if you look after it and keep it in the pouch that comes with it. it is the best phone i have ever had out of them all. very happy thank you lg. Rating:
Reviewed by Leanne on 05/10/2006 DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!!! I've had this phone for about 5 months and am on my 3rd one which still has faults but I give up trying to get one that works fully now!! The first two I had broke within a week, the volume stopped working and then when people rung me they could hear me but I couldn't hear them, I was told this was just a dodgy batch but loads of people have had the same problem. The third one that I'm on now is ok, the volume hasn't broke, yet!! Problems I'm having on this one is the predictive text, when I try saving works in there they never actually save, the battery is hopeless if you use it a lot which I do, and the number buttons don't work very well. Mine is scratched a lot but thats my fault really as I could carry it round in the little pouch to protect it but thats just a hassle when someone rings you. I can't wait until I've had this phone 6 months now as I've got a get out after six months clause in my insurance which I'll definately be using!! It loo ks great & the touch screen I find really good, but don't buy it!! Rating:
Reviewed by Natalie on 23/09/2006 I received my Lg Chocolate this morning and tried it out straight away to see if the alleged faults are infact true. The buttons on the side are only difficult to use if you have...ahem...wider digits. Otherwise they're fairly easy to use. There are backlights to the phone, they're not read but a nice off-white. The touch pad can prove to be tricky at first but after a while you get used to them. You just need patience. To be honest i didn't have any troubles with it but my two brothers took a while to get used to it. Yes you do tend to get fingerprint marks on the Lg Chocolate due to its glossiness. However they're less obvious on the white model which is what i bought. The wiping trinket is a nice touch, however, i'd find this a little useless, i just wipe anything off with my finger or an alternative material. I don't want to be carrying a little charm with me everywhere for cleaning! Nice touch though. I do not find the earphones ugly! I've seen a lot worse! I do find the texting a little tricky the order of text typing is in a random order, you have to configure it everytime you start a new sentence if you want a capital letter at the beginning, however a lot of you may use short hand and not use T9. In that case just configure the message settings to take T9 off. The alarm works well for me. No problems. The ringtone volume is fine for me, infact it's possible to get it louder than expected. However the message tone does remain quite quiet. For those who use silent a lot or messaging is not a priority then it shouldn't be a cause for concern. There is no loudspeaker, but i wouldn't have used it anyway. Yes there're only 2 interfaces, silver and black. It's disappointing but i only had one interface on my old phone. The camera is great for me, its not top notch but still takes decent pictures. If i want great photos i'd buy a digital camera. A phone is mainly for communicating. Overall i rated 4. The one star that's been lost is for the complicating messaging and the lack of interfaces (no biggie). It's not a unbelievable phone but it is above average in my opinion. A LOT better than my previous phone which was a Samsung E710 locked on the Vodafone network. Just don't do it. You get stuck with one interface consisting of red, blue, black and white. Rating:
Reviewed by Jamie Rae on 30/08/2006 Well, what can i say. I wanted a phone that is touch sensitive so i spent £225 on this phone. I absolutley hated it. Reviewed by joel on 17/08/2006 ye , a good phone , average , very sexy lookin and overall the touch screen is a good idea, but the most important thing is, is that compare the samsung d600 or d500 to it , they both have better specs , both look good and d600 is around 200quid and d500 about 110quid wen the lg chocy is 250+quid! it my eyes , its a rip off Rating:
Reviewed by Sheila Blackery, Basildon, Essex on 11/08/2006 Got this on contract and its going back to the shop after 3 days. Looks alone, this is the best but a bit chavvy. When you do text messaging, the keypad sticks and takes too long to do your message. Then when you backspace using the red key, instead of pressing it once, you need to do it four times! Rating:
Reviewed by Lg Chocolate Is The Phone For Me. on 02/08/2006 The Lg Chocolate is a great phone to have i just love everything about it ive had myn for a week now. Even though i had to go back to the shop twise because of my ringtones they didnt work but the shop didnt help much!!! I ended up doing it myself but now im pleased that the ringtones work. The things i Like about the phone: The camera is great its not the best camera ever but i think its good for a phone. I like the touchpad mine works perfectly ! Its really easy to connect the phone to the pc and the pictures come out clear and very qickly onto my pc. Its really easy to add mp3 songs onto the phone you just click the songs that you have on ur pc and then drag them to the folder from your removable disk. And they are very loud on the phone. I like the noise it makes when it slides up and down lol. And its very light to carry and fits in my hand. The Things i hate about the phone: I dont like the volume of the messages u can hardly here them. I didnt like the volume of the ringtones at 1st but now i have my mp3s as ringtones so they r louder. I dont like it when im on the phone to someone and its hard 2 hang up after. I dont like that the light turns of so quickly. Thats it really. So you should deffinatly buy this phone if you like all the good things about it. Thanks for reading this. Rating:
Reviewed by Ricky A on 30/07/2006 well well well....when i was looking at this phone, i was a bit apprehensive as i kept coming across bad reviews...however, i still went out and bought one and thought id at least give it a chance. not really needed. the minute i opened this phone i fell in love with it...not only does it look sexy...it works well too! for those people moaning about a rubbish camera...get a digital camera if u wanna take photos. remember, a phone is primarily for making phone calls and texting! if u want more memory for music, get an ipod! i thought the camera on this is much better than that on the D500! for those moaning about the quiet message tones...i dont seem to have this problem, in fact, im the other way round and think they are too loud! also, people seem to be having problems using MP3 tracks as there ringtones....i dont have this problem. i use mp3 tones as all my tones! sure the phone does get dirty easily but then if you're like me and take care of your belongings, the phone is fine. i love the navigation and think the touch sensitive keys are great too! its everything i need in a phone...slim, sexy, easy to use and doesnt have a bad camera or mp3 player. i also like the fact u can use it as removable memory for your computer, ive transferred documents to and from and my CV resides permanently on my phone! well, suppose to sum it all up, the phone is great....i dont see a downside at all but that is my opinion and the way i use the phone! i would recommend this phone to people who can look after there belongings and if they want a phone to make calls and texts and look good doing it! definately a phone for people who want fashion over functionality, even though the functionality is also quite good too! GET THIS PHONE, YOU'LL LOVE IT!! Rating:
Reviewed by Mark from Burnley on 28/07/2006 Very Classy phone to look at, probably the best looking on the market. Beware the lack of loudspeaker, it won't let you do it for some reason so you can't safely make calls in the car. Bit disappointed with this. Camera is not bad but not great. So make sure ur hands are clean b4 touching it :p no memory expansion and only 128mb =/ But one thing i love about this fone, is the screen. Reviewed by Kajata on 15/07/2006 I bought this phone just over a month ago (in fact I got it for my birthday on contract) and basically, for the first month I was very happy with it; it did everything I thought it would and while it didn't have ALL the functions of my previous phone (Samsung D500) the differences were simply too minor to really concearn me. However, in about it's 3rd or 4th week of use it suddenly stopped sending or recieving messages or phonecalls at all. It wouldn't have any indication that it was malfunctioning until you actually tried to send a text or make a phonecall, at which point it would produce an error message. It did this several times, and the only way I found to fix the problem was to take the back off the phone, take the sim card out, put it all back in again and switch the phone back on. The problem didn't even seem to fix itself (I had it doing this for an entire day and didn't know, so missed a ton of messages from people), and only seems to be fixed by going through the steps I noted above. Then, this weekend, the speaker on the phone broke, so that I could still call people and they could hear me, but there was no sound coming from the phone at all... which makes calling a taxi a real hassle...Also, another problem I have experienced was that there would be periods of operation where it would appear that the phone was working normally, and it would allow me to send text messages and make phone calls, but the text messages or phone calls weren't actually GOING anywhere... my friends weren't recieving them or anything...Some of these problems could have been attributed to network difficulties but considering they fixed themselves when I took the back off the phone and put it back on or when I took my SIM card out and put it in my old phone, the only thing I can see to blame is the phone itself. I'm currently using my Samsung D500 again and am having to take the phone back to the Carphone Warehouse repair shop before they'll even try and replace it; but from what I've heard all of these things are common problems with the LG Chocolate. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE Rating:
Reviewed by jo on 04/07/2006 got this phone as soon as it cum out cos i thought it looked like the best thing since sliced bread, oh how wrong i was, its rubbish!! very attractive, but just RUBBISH, i went straight back to my samsung after a day!! hate it, dont reccomend it at all!! Rating:
Reviewed by Nicola on 03/07/2006 DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE! Especially from a T-mobile store because they don't give refunds!!! The phone may look really nice, but the touch screen is really annoying and doesn't always work. The key pad is really slow and doesn't work when you try to text. Predictive texting is slow and when inputting words the key pad sticks constantly. For example, you press the key three times to get the letter c, it sticks on b. It's rubbish! Stick with Samsung! Reviewed by Stuart on 03/07/2006 I've had this phone for about a month now and i'm starting to think this phone may not be for me! Pro's: It does look good and the touch pad makes menu navigation a doddle, its really light and sits in your shirt pocket nicely. Con's: The battery life is not very good (about 4 days max). You only have 4 very quiet message tones to use (you cant use a download) - You can get round this by setting the phone to ring & vibrate cause the vibrate is quite good! I fear it will be ruined in much less than a year as it will scrath easily if your not careful (I am careful but already has a scratch on the screen!). Can not get any accessories (ie car charger) anywhere, might be because its so new, but a car charger is a real must with the poor battery life. I've had 2 problems with it so far - 1) Sometimes I can't hear people when I ring them (at all!) and signal seems to be very poor in places (T-mobile say its nothing to do with them!!!). The texting takes a bit of getting used to - You cant hold a number down to get that number like you can on Nokia. Final moan... when you call an annoying call centre and you have to press an option... you have to press the button once to activate the screen and once again to select your option!! All in all at the moment i'm feeling a bit gutted mainly due to poor signal and the battery life, but it does make up for that with its looks and i'm sure if I get a car charger eventually I'll feel a bit more happy! My verdict.... if you want this phone.... wait for the White Chocolate! as i'm sure the floors will be fixed on that one!! Rating:
