Reviewed by Katie on 20/02/2010 Got the LG phone at christmas and I must say it is terrible, it freezes all the time and when I receive calls it decides to restart itself. Also every time I try to text I find myself writing in another language. The phone responds very slow and the battery life is terrible. Also the phone will unlock itself when its in my pocket and ring someone without me even knowing. Another problem I found was when I rang people it could take up to 5 minutes for the phone to realize I have pressed to hang up which was very annoying and wasted my minutes. The only things I liked about the phone was its appearance and the picture and video quality is very good. I would not recommend this phone to anybody. Rating:
Reviewed by Emma Clarke on 19/02/2010 Simply and utterly abominable. Switches itself off constantly and the screen freezes, often mid-text. The only way to correct either of these is to take the battery out and put it back. I know that this is a permanent design fault as having complained to Orange I was given a replacement handset that exhibited exactly the same problems. I am currently making a formal written complaint and demanding to be released from my contract as the phone is not fit for purpose. Rating:
Reviewed by Al Ramsey on 11/02/2010 SHOCKING phone. Had two of them over the last six months because T-Mobile have got me tied down to it. Looks great at first but problems become apparent very quickly. I'll summerize what I've had to put up with in this very miserable experience: The signal bars mean nothing. Seriously! Makes calls on its own. Faulty touch screen which requires the phone to be restarted (it selects whatever is LEFT of the screen) Text response very, very slow. Any water whatsoever (a single raindrop) will mean you need to restart the phone as the touch screen messes up. Battery dies very quickly/battery bar inaccurate. Tons of bookmarks which you can't delete on web browser (it's slow enough scrolling as it is) When you send a text, the report you get back is for the wrong person. Heart in mouth a few times over that. Sometimes, the text actually will send to the wrong person by selecting someone you didn't click on. Be aware... Sometimes, hours without signal for no good reason. When 3G is turned on, good luck using the phone in any capacity, it's slow, drops calls, and battery dies very quickly. Positives being the GPS is very cool, if not unreliable and takes ages to find satallites at times. But when it works, it's great (for walking, too slow for driving). Resolution is good on the phone as well. But that's really it! Avoid at all costs. Please. Unless you want to buy it off me! Rating:
Reviewed by Kate A on 06/02/2010 I currently have this phone & personally feel that it is the worst phone i have ever had. When writing a text the keys are too small so you press other keys & the phone reguarly freezes & or turns itself off & back on again. When ending a call you yourself had to wait several seconds for the call to actually show as ended on the screen as it just freezes, i would advised anybody to not buy this phone! Rating:

Artwork appearing appears as it wants to. With too much loaded it also reboots when you select music. Firmware upgrades do not work on x34 bit systems Syncing with Outlook is useless I get an increasing number of the same appointment, (both ways) Good points: - screen phone Rating:

Reviewed by GirlyGirl on 24/01/2010 I got the LG Arena only last week and, at first, was disappointed at the size, but i gradually realised i preferred it small. The camera is great and so is the video and voice recorder. I liked the way the phone was set out and the way it works, except for the texting!! its really hard to go fast and be accurate and i have tiny hands! i recommend it to younger (smaller sized hands) people. Reviewed by Andrew on 24/01/2010 Well, what can i say, got this in a 24 month contract with orange thinking it was capable of downloading applications. Was very wrong, i blame that on the false advertising of the phone. Most of the reviews which give it poor ratings are true. It freezes, its annoying when you try and listen to your answer machine messaging as it automatically locks, it cuts off, you have to turn the phone off and on alot as when you try and use the touch screen it opens up other applications, the 3g with orange is useless as it blocks incoming calls so i have had to change the network to 2g so i can receive incoming calls. I contacted orange about this and they said they were upgrading the network, not true. the only thing its good for is picture quality and the bluetooth capability. I would certainly avoid this phone at all costs. Far inferior to the iphone. The technology in this phone is full of bugs. Rating:
Reviewed by delturner on 22/01/2010 this phone is good as a phone but as a music player it is useless. Adding music to either the card or internal memory causes the phone to slow down and eventually stop . I have 5gb spread between the two over this the phone freezes, does not show all the artwork. Continuing to add music causes the phone to restart when selecting the music icon, this does not mean a lot pf music. I have downgraded my card from 16gb to 8gb but it makes no difference.I would guess no more than 6gb at the most to get some functionality Firmware upgrades to not work on X64 systems. Even adding a city on the world clock causes the phone to restart. Not too good at all, an expensive sim free phone to make calls. I have bought an Ipod classic to listen to music as the all in one was a failure. Del Rating:

Reviewed by john on 16/01/2010 I've had this phone for about 6 months which is a really good time to assess it.My phone is on t mobile and I got this as an upgrade. Like the sleek design,I am using a clear adhesive screen protector and rubber case to protect it as the screen gets easily marked without it.As a phone the reception is really good and the earpiece is excellent, it one of the best phones i've used to hear and speak to someone in a noisy area., but it can be dificult to end a call on the screen once it gone to sleep. The same with retrieving your voicemail. texting is fun and quite easy using the full screen qwerty keyboard, but the problem is that often that screen autorotates in the middle of me texting a message to the standard format which is very irritating. The camera is ok to operate and has auto focus but the shutter release is very slow to operate and you lose a lot of shots as a result or ther come out blurred. the video camera is good, i did some filming at the notting hill carnival and the picture quality is good. I was impressed.battery life is much better than i thought lasting 2 -3 days.i'm a light phone user and dont use 3g or wifi. On days where i make a few calls and texts it would last 1-2 days. Using the video and camera really eats your batteries fast. Best to get a second battery and mini charger, so you can charge the battery out of the phone.i bought one on ebay. the phone does occasionally freeze in operation and on some operation it takes a few seconds to process, and no you cant see the screen in direct sunlight. Reviewed by "Loada Garbage" on 16/01/2010 Agree with previous reviewer. Worst phone ever to hit the market. Those early reviewers who praised this phone and made it sound like an iphone rival should hang their heads in shame and be forced to take out lifetime contracts with this piece of junk. There is not one good thing to say about this phone and the bad things are just too bad and too many to even bother with. Anyone who buys this phone after reading these reviews must need their heads examining. Unfortunately, I am stuck with my contract for quite a while yet, but I have bought a really basic Nokia, into which I can put my SIM. Even the very basic Nokia outperforms these things (I'mnot going to call it a phone cos its not). Rating:
Reviewed by "Lifes Gash" on 14/01/2010 Worst phone ever (& that includes a piece of string between 2 tin cans). My sent texts update each day, eg I sent some a text's about 6 months ago, according to my phone I sent them yesterday (every day I check it’s always the day before that I sent them apparently). Phone reboots itself, Google maps is stuck in Spain (& I’ve never been there in my life). Touch screen is unresponsive & you need fingers like an anorexic size 0 model to hit the right button. I know somebody who was listening to the radio on his & watched as his phone access his contacts & dial his mate, all without him touching the infernal device, is this what they call hands free dialling???? The MP3 player only works properly if you save the files to the phones internal memory…. I could go on but you know what, life’s too short. I am trying to update the firmware on mine now (in a desperate hope the they have fixed issues), on a very fast connection (at work) & I have to wait 6 1/2 hours to download the 219MB update file (it's already been running for 55 minutes). My advice to you all is avoid this phone. I really really wish I hadn't bought this phone, can't wait until the contract is over, will never buy ANYTHING LG again in my life. Rating:

Reviewed by Kimberley Edwards on 09/01/2010 I do not like my LG arena. Answering the phone is a nightmare. You have to unlock the phone before you can "accept" a call. There are so many apps that I would use at work that are not compatible with the LG Arena. I have had my phone less than a year and I am already in the process of replacing it. Yes, it is a very "attractive phone" and will make one hell of an expensive paper weight. If you are thinking about getting one I would say do not waste your money. Purchase an Apple IPhone instead. Reviewed by Sally on 24/12/2009 ok this phone was one of the biggest mistakes. it freezes multiple times a day which leads me to have to remove the battery in order for it to work again. II) it is extremely slow (not to mention the internet, it is extremely extremely laggy) III) when someone calls u it takes about 10 to 15 seconds for one to receive the call and therefore by that time the caller has hung up IV) THE TEXTING IS HORRENDOUS. the landscape view for texting is so slow and it takes me so long to text one sentence. once u press a button u press others and have mispelt words that dont even ressemble words. ITS RUBBISH. one time i was trying to unfreeze it and it accidentally called someone who i didnt want to call. although it is gorgeous asthetically, and the camera is 5 megapixels, and it has the video call feature...it is a TREMENDOUS DISAPPOINTMENT. im trying to return it. waste of money unfortunately. Reviewed by Hannah on 19/12/2009 Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE. At first I thought it was great; good camer, lots of features, easy to use. However, the novelty began to wear of after about two weeks when the phone began to freeze frequently. At first it was bearable, the odd freeze and i would just have to wait a few seconds before it was back, but now it freezes every time i receive a text message, and i have to turn it off and on agin before it works. It drops calls and i have to wait ages for the proximity sensor to realise that the phone is out of my pocket so that the screen lights up and i can see who's calling. I have tried many times to change my ringtone, yet every time i try ut changes itself back agin within half an hour. LG have some serious issues here and i hope they sort these out for the next phones they bring out. Rating:

Had to go online to find fixes, aka. flashing the firmware, hard resets. etc. It has a lot of features, but generally these features are way below par. Let me being complaining. (1) Phone freezes. (2) FM transmitter is TERRIBLE, even with V10P_00 firmware. Lots of static. (3) GPS DOES NOT work, tired numerous fixes. Including firmware changes, hard resets, changing GPS type, and settings in factory menu, Tried tinfoil fix, and scratch rough metal fix (WHY WOULD U HAVE TO GO TO THIS EXTREME ANYWAY?) (4) Interface is slow, I don't want to wait. Always see the 'loading' screen. (5) Music player is digusting, freezes up / locks up. Very very bad. (6) Accelerometer is below par, have issues with getting the QWERTY keyboard etc. (7) LG are not supplying apps for the phone. (8) Available apps are useless. (9) Java runs poooorly, tried playing guitar hero, not even playing bcz of the lag. POOOR POOOOR phone, really bad has a lot of flaws not worth it at all. DO NOT BUY, worst phone I've ever owned. Phone4U and orange say the cant help as I have had the phone for 7 months, only because I was told by phone4U when i first got the phone, that it was new and that bugs would be sorted in future firmware updates, i have had 2 firmware updates since then and they just introduce new bugs that were not there in previous firmwares the phone also seems to get slower with each new update. I get missed call texts even thou my phone hasnt rang and i have a full signal, ive proved this as i got a friend to ring while we were in the same room, my phones signal was full, his phone was making the usual sound like he was ringing my phone,, but my phone was silent, about half hour later i recieved a missed call text with his number on it! When i try and text 9 times out of ten it goes wrong, i will have a full signal and as soon as i press send the signal drops to nothing and the text sits in the outbox with the message "waiting", the only way to get the signal back is to turn the phone off. GPS refuses to work and Geo tagging is a no no! LG advertise that the phone can play Divx movies at DVD quality, the screen resolution of the arena in 800x480, so why wont it play Divx movies that are more than 320x240 in resolution, which look blured and blocky, thats if the rena deceides to play them at all. The music player is a complete joke, and shouldnt really be called a music player! The FM transmitter sounds terrible so is a totally useless feature! You tube is a complete blurry mess, on other phones with half the screen resolution you tube videos are clear and much sharper. The pictures in gallery usually have a few with the wrong thumbnail which means sometimes you delete a picture because you think its something else from pressing the contacts button it takes 5 seconds to load them, and then scrolling thru them is so laggy and juddery that simply trying to find a number you end up calling the wrong one, then fighting with the phone to cancel the call. Calling Voicemail is a nightmare, the screen flashes when its in a call and not near your ear, so in between the flashes which are sometime 10 seconds in between the screen being off to being back on you have to press Unlock and then dialpad, this take a few goes because most of the time after you have pressed unlock waiting for the screen to come back on the phone has locked itself again! try phoneing BT on the Arena, the amount of menus BT have you simply miss them and never get anywhere The only Apps/programs the phone can use are Java, which is pathetically slow, so dont even imagine you are going to play a game on it LG have Misadvertised this phone beyond belief, and should be done by trading standards, the phone is nothing like what they advertise, just go on you tube and take a look at their advertisements for it, Thats not the arena in reality I have 2 friends who also have the Arena they are both on T mobile (im on orange) who have the same problems, LG should not have released this phone with the amount of problems it has, If it had been any other product TV, computer etc the product would have been recalled. The phone is basically to unstable and unreliable, I would hate to be stuck somewhere in an emergency with only the arena with me. Ill NEVER touch another LG product, all they are bothered about is getting their latest phone onto the market, The arrogance of the LG cistomer care line tells you this. Rating:

There has been no firmware update to address the phone freezing up nor the shutter delay on the camera, and this is bad, my shutter delay almost makes the camera useless as to get a decent action picture you need to pre-empt when to push the button to get the shot you want, if you are taking pix of your kids - forget about it unless they sit still... Calls disconnect at times and also the contacts section of the phone doesnt seem to work properly either as when you use the search function for an entry when you find it you cant select it quick enough before the screen goes back to the previous screen Furhter to this if you are looking at pics on your phone and dont touch the screen the screen saver kicks in way to early and you CANT switch it off, only delay it - Poor phone and an IPHONE wannabe... WTF! anyway my phone was sent back to be repaired,3 weeks later i hadnt heard anything from them, i decided to phone to see what the status was and was told there was a problem with the software and they were waiting for compo nents,OKAY fair enough, my phone arrived 2 days later with a note in saying it could not be repaired due to WATER DAMAGE!!! my phone hadnt been near water in the 3 months that i had it. And why did the lady tell me they were waiting for components if the 'repair experts' could tell straight away if it had water damage!i mean if the 'phone was wet' surely you wouldnt be waiting for new components for a 'wet' phone. So feeling ripped off and a little cheated over a phone i had barely used i resigned to the fact that i should have gone with my original instict on this one, what i'm trying to say is *STAY WELL CLEAR OF THIS PHONE,YOU WILL ONLY BE DISSAPOINTED,IT WILL LET YOU DOWN* Rating:

Biggest annoyance is the amount of times I have ended a call as my cheek has pressed the end call button, rather annoying. Also, when my phone rings the screen seems to stay black for ages so you have no idea who is ringing until they hang up! It's a crying shame as the look of the phone is really good, and it sounds great on paper but in reality is just not good enough. The phone is quite slow, especially the contacts, and despite having a touch screen before I still struggle (infact hate!) the texting screen. A lot of buttons just choose not to work and it has frozen on me a few times. Internet is hopeless and the widget screen icons move everytime you touch it. Within 2 weeks the we had to call T-Mobile to complain about it dropping calls and an annoying blob had appeared on the screen. Also we have found that because the screen works on heat rather than touch, whilst talking on the phone with my ear pressed up to it, i seem to select thing that i hadnt ment to. We are not talking about a cheap phone. Wi/Fi connection? Give me a break, it's just terrible. You can't do nothing with it the browser is awful! Music player is just normal, every time you go back it shows you the first song, c'on. Battery life it's a joke. Reviewed by Ed on 28/09/2009 I've had 3 LG Phones, Viewty, Renoir and now the Arena. Of all 3, the Renoir was probably the best, but I dislike resistive touch screens. (I've also had SE's & Nokias). So the gimmickery of the Arena attracted me. It is a beautiful phone, crystal clear display, and a nice form factor. TBH for touch screen, 3" is just a tad too small, and touch screen is either a love or hate thing, persevere if its you first experience. But there is a big drawback with the Arena, it freezes, it blanks outs, and it shuts down randomly. I experience this about twice a week, not hard to live with, but annoying all the same. There is a host of functions and little applications, nothing that you couldnt live without really, but video is nice, photos are to a good standard (its one of the reasons I bought this phone, its quick to snap and shoot video, for memories of my little daughter). There is nothing really unique about it. The contacts display is nice in carousel form on the S class interface, that is once you have snaps of all your contacts. Oh yes the S Class interface is sluggish, theres no arguement there. I have used the iphone 3GS and being totally honest its has a significant lead on the Arena. And Apple seem to care about their customers. The internet, its like any other device, I think the real acid test of any phone web browsing is would you feel confident using it to do some internet shopping? I say no, you couldnt be confident the device will permit you to use the net correctly, as some pages fail to display, or its very figgity, or it doesnt support something or other. So it basically boils down to using it as an email device, which I do find is useful, and it does work. So I guess this appears a pretty negative review in retrospect, saying that, if LG were to update the firmware and iron out the bugs, this phone would be a nice alternative to the Iphone, but not until then. Probably the biggest annoyonce is that LG do not provide customer service, they never iron out firmware bugs, and I dont think it takes me to say that, all you have to do is read the reviews as it is apparent everyone is experiencing the same issues more or less. So from a service back up point of view, simply avoid LG Mobiles, yes that is harsh, but it is also a fact. i wont buy another LG handset. If I could I'd give this phone an extra half star, but "average" is just about justified. Rating:

Nice screen for movie watching if that's your thing, but the display is quite small, so not sure how much I'm benefitting from all those hi-res pixels. As for web browsing - absolute non-starter IMHO: sluggish, lots of waiting for screen loads when you move around the page and the default zoom produces tiny text. I've downloaded the BOLT browser, which is way better despite being java based. The camera takes decent snaps but the shutter lag renders it virtually unusable. Only java apps available as the OS is proprietary, so severely limited in that area. Internal GPS runs java google maps, which is quite clumsy. On the whole a nice package hides limited usability. In a nutshell as a camera, camcorder and general portable media decide this phone is 5 stars, the quality of the photos and video are as good as anything Ive seen on a mobile phone. However as a phone it barely rates as 2 star, You will struggle to answer answer and cut off calls via the touch screen, The reception is nowhere near as good as Sony s Ive tried my sim card in both and always get a reception via my old sony and during calls the screen cuts in and out frequently going blank which is a real problem if you go into an answering system that requires you to push further keys. To conclude I have put my sim card back in my old Sony as it is a far better phone, However I retain the LG with a pay as you go card in order to retain the camera and ot her facilities if only LG could sort the phone side of this out they would have one special phone. Reviewed by Peter on 09/08/2009 After 2 months of use, seriously disappointed in this phone, had all the features I was looking for but just executes them poorly, for instance the music player doesn't read the mp3s info for the track name, all it does is read what the tracks called, very annoying if you don't have the files labelled as just the song name. The camera shutter is too slow, I take a picture I hear the picture noise but it takes the pictures 2-3 seconds after that, which brings me onto my last problem the processor, its just not up to the task the whole thing is very laggy and after I filled up a 16gb micro sd with music the music player refuses to load up, I can play the files via the phones directory management so I know the phone has registered them but the music player won't load up at all. Add to that the random freezes forcing you to take the battery out this phone is just useless and I will be taking it back. Rating:

Freezes phone now; have to depower to unfreeze. PC suite very average - not as slick as nokia's. Music (when you do manage to import it) is a filing nightmare: no logic - tracks filed by their track number! Dumb. No album art as depicted in marketing bull.No vid streaming via wifi, but I knew this before purchse - still a dumb handicap. Really - if the phone worked and synced as intended, I'd like it, BUT it doesn't, so I regret my purchase. Rating:

Reviewed by Steve on 08/08/2009 Phone looks ok and its overall weight is good, although it is oddly weighted and always ends up upside down in your pocket. Good points: Screen is ok and pics show up quite well so long as your not in sunlight. Call quality is pretty good with voices loud and clear. Bad points (are you sitting comfortably? - this could take a while!): The UI is horrendous - absolutely horrendous. How did LG ever manage to release this handest onto the market. It must have been UI tested by a dyslexic gerbil! The firmware it came with was very sluggish and often froze. The only way to unfreeze it was to remove the battery. One one occasion, whilst playing music, it began to increae the volume very quickly and whilst the touchscreen was frozen. I could not stop the music player, nor reduce the volume an it ended up at max volume within seconds and causing me pain in my ears. I pulled the headphones out of my ears but they were ringing for quite a few mins after. The cube is pointless and I never use it. It looks good for the advert - that's all. As a music player you are better off playing mp3s or other format files on an old sony walkman tape deck than on this handset. It either does not recognise albums and requires you to rename each file using software the handset is not supplied with and with a secret algorithm whose code is only know to space boffins at NASA, or it does not recognise them at all (after updating the firmware) and just says 'please wait - searching' for hours on end. Firmware was updated via LG's own website/software. With updated firmware, my handset no longer links phone numbers to the address book and I just see a number calling me (or vice versa). The same applies with SMS or MMS - numbers not identities. In fact, I would go so far as to suggest this phone is not and never has been fit for purpose and should never have been sold. It is now so bad that I wil not put up with it and have requested a replacement handset fro a reliable maunfaturer - one who can make phones that work. I will also investigate whether I can make a complaint via Ofcom or Trading Standards, as this phone clearly does not do what it says on the tin. With this phone, the phrase 'caveat emptor' has never been more appropriately used. You have been warned. Rating:

Reviewed by Dan on 02/07/2009 Right... here it comes. When you first get the phone it looks amazing, the screen is the best i have seen, the sensitivity of it seemed just right. I can totally see how the reviewers of this website loved the phone so much. I was even telling my friends that my phone is way better than their iphones and the like. Which i believed, untill i seriously got into using it as a phone. It doesnt respond well when turning the screen around when txting as i have to use the qwerty keyboard because you cant add your own words to the dictionary. The phone freezes when you try and listen to the radio all the time. The battery on the first day of using it, which was moderate as i was at work lasted from 8 in the morning to 6pm. The only way for that to change is turning on the power save option, and then the phone becomes a nightmare to use. The phone locks itself after 2/3 seconds no matter what you are doing on the phone, and to re-activate it you have to click the po we button. Now this may seem like nothing, but as some people are aware (especially if you are married) its the little things that bother you the most. The alarm sometimes would just no go off in the morning, even after checking the alarm was set. Sometimes after setting the alarm for 7 in the morning it would go off straight away. If you have your phone in your pocket and it rings it takes for ever for the info to come up on your screen, and if your not quick off the mark answering it then you miss the call. The GPS just does not work, you cannot locate your self what so ever. Directions and getting info on places did work..which was pretty cool, but then again my friends nokia classic can do that a year ago. As it is NOT a smartphone the apps are all java run, and as the phone has no keyboard they are controlled by a touch screen D-Pad...which is shocking!!!! It honestly seems to me like the phone has been rushed out, the OS is so buggy, how it can be released and all this money on advertisements etc is beyond me. Its like the ohone has been put through 1 hours using time only. Fingers crossed they will sort it out for all the people who still have one. I lasted 3 weeks till i had to go into town to CEX and lose money and swap it for a Nokia N79, which as it happens is a decent phone, says what it does on the box, no messing, no lies. Reviewed by ah on 01/07/2009 I got this phone from Tmobile and sent it back within 3 days. I was mainly interested in some features they advertize (FM transmiter and 40BG memory). The FM transmiter doesn't work (unless you put the phone literaly on the receiving radio antena), and the manual explicitely says the phone will accept up to 8GB memory extnetions, not 40. As the phone already has 8, I figured it would accept the new 32GB cards, but LG wasn't able to comfirm this. Overal I wasn't too impressed about any of the features, I thought the touch screen (and especialy the multi touch functionality) didn't respond well at all. The sound quality during calls was poor on both ends. The response time for any menu access or input (emails, texts, etc) was very slow. I agree with some of the reviews here that the 3d interface is a joke. The favorite contacts is of no use unless you want only 5 (or was it 8?) available, and the response time (again) to browse the full contact list are awfully long. If you buy this make sure you test all the features within a few days so you'll be able to send it back within the 7 days period most company offer. Just point out the discrepancy in the manual stating the max memory is 8GB not 40, and the fact that the FM transmiter doesn't work, that should be enough reason if you need one. Rating:

Reviewed by John P on 30/06/2009 After 3 weeks use I think this phone is very nearly brilliant. I give it 4 1/2 stars - in spite of the apallingly awful and slow to use wheely things you are expected to use to set dates and times in the Organiser. I have used almost everything on it and been very impressed, except where mentioned below. I use it on Vodaphone PAYG, and Wifi for Google maps and Browsing. It has been a bit of a struggle to get the best out of it. (I'm a 60 year old ex electronics engineer). It was bought to replace a broken Nokia phone and a 9 year old Psion Revo organiser (which is easy and intuitive to use in all the ways that a PC isn't - but they don't make them any more). The manual is poor. Judging by the variation in reviews other people are also having difficulty getting things to work, or understanding how they are supposed to work. There would also seem to be some manufacturing quality control issues. It would be a good idea if LG were to bring out a proper user guide, but first post the solutions to common problems on their web site. If they offered to post the best user tips we would all be a lot better off. For example, I can get DivX movies to play, using the converter supplied on CD (the process is a bit like wallpapering your hall through the letterbox). I also tried to get the online DivX convertor upgrade but gave up in frustration. However I cannot get GPS to work. Don't bother with the phone favourites - it's better to set up a group (or use VIP group) in Contacts and you can then read the list much more easily in strong sunlight. The popup windows show you more of the contents of certain fields without having to open another screen - which is handy - but conversely, sometimes you cannot see all of the text in a field unless you go into edit mode. The sensitivity of the touch screen can be improved by removing the almost invisible protective film. I now find it almost too sensitive, and it will easily keep up with my typing. It was a bit of a struggle adjusting to the small size of the 'keys', but I would not have bigger keys if it meant having a bigger phone. The small size is a big advantage. On the subject of size, I cannot imagine anyone buying a phone this size and thinking it would make a good web browser. Does anyone really do this? I guess people want different things from their 'phone'. The video camera is astoundingly good, but I'm having problems turning the results into a standard DVD video. Battery life is improving with use and is now acceptable. I was impressed by how easy it was to get the data from my old Revo into the Arena via my PC. With a few tweaks and better documentation this phone would be the nearest thing to magic I have yet seen. Rating:

Reviewed by Robert on 23/06/2009 Well my initial thoughts on the Arena were great, and after all is said and done, its still great. I needed a phone with WiFi on for backpacking (to keep up to date with my e-mails mainly), and a slew of other features I had on my prefer list, the Arena ticked almost all of them. The phone itself is great, its fantastically quick to text on using the qwerty, I can text at almost typing speed after less than a week of use, and find the touch screen in general easy to use. The phone is fast and given me very little problems, WiFi works well, camera is good quality (with a little playing with the settings), video and music quality is amazing with Dolby enabled. The phone came with T-Mobile branding, I removed these easily by debranding the phone per instructions found online, I've now ran 2 different open firmwares, V10M_02 (the latest I could find) and V10B_02 (not as new as M), the M version adds some negligable features, but also makes the phone slighly more unstable, I've had a number of crashes and resets with that firmware, the B however removes a couple of settings and features (nothing I'd miss mind you) and I'm yet to get a crash on my phone since then. Overall, its not the greatest phone in the world, but seeing as I'm a PAYG customer, I get what I can afford from eBay, and the Arena cost me £151, a lot less than the HTC Touch HD which was the rival phone for me, the Arena might not be perfect but it does the job, for anything more I'm happy to use my laptop. A couple of pointers for those having problems; battery life can be extended by turning the phone to GSM mode only through connectivity > network selection > network mode, this removes the high speed internet but saves on battery a lot (just enable when you want to browse the net). I've found locking the phone on the main menu seems to make it crash an awful lot more, so avoid it and lock the phone on the home screen. The camera can take some real good shots once you've got used to the ISO settings, ignore the auto feature its not that good, simply play around and after a while you'll know which setting to use depending on the light. To use the GPS you need to be in an open area, either the GPS is weak, or the software is crap, hopefully its the latter and we can expect a nice upgrade soon. To turn the GPS into a Satnav download the software amAze and install. For album art on the phone the only (known) ways to get art on there is either syncing with Windows Media Player, or embedding the art into the tracks. Thats pretty much it that I've found for those little niggles, I hope they help someone else on here :) Rating:
Reviewed by Jess on 22/06/2009 I had this phone from Orange on an upgrade and I have to say I've had no problems at all with it and I love it. I think it's a great IPhone alternative and would recommend it to anyone, yes, even on Orange. The camera is really good, not so great in the evenings but it does the job. Video is good quality too. I've even managed to get a funky skin for it too so when I'm drunk and drop it it doesn't scratch!!!! Rating:
Reviewed by Sam on 26/05/2009 Where do i start with this phone?, Well it freezes a lot, dead slow and not responsive all of the time, will not view my files which i want to view, and when i rang up customer services, all the person could say we can offer you "like for like", which i didn't want, so they didn't meet customer requirements, i was very flexible in saying how id get a lower contract, less text and minutes, even pay more so i could change the phone, But NO!, If you want to get a new phone and your looking at the LG Arena, don't waste your money! And don't bother getting going with dialaphone. Rating:

Reviewed by A McDonald on 16/04/2009 While promising some very outstanding features, when I actually got the phone it was buggy, I had to input the first phone number 3 times before it was able to save it. Being DivX certified I believed that it should play any DivX file provided it fell within the resolution of the phones screen, however it would not play any previously made DivX files until I made them with the included converter (which by the way distorted the movie's aspect ratio when I went to play it) To add insult to injury I also had put about 7gb of mp3's onto it, created a playlist and it took a full 3 minutes for the music player to load up each and every time until I deleted the playlist, which now takes a still-feeble 10 seconds (being a once Sony-Ericsson user which is practically instant) if it has problems dealing with the 7gb of mp3's now, then how many hours will it take to work if I added a 16gb memory card of music?? LG has built a killer phone but has given it an infuriatingly slow processor (or either bad software) - avoid like the plague!!! Rating:
