A nice phone for the money - £150 PAYG. Plenty of functionality with great access to key tools such as GMail, Contacts, WiFi etc. The quality of the screen is well documented, but it is perfectly acceptable and does not detract from most functions, except perhaps Web browsing.

At first loved it, much better than my previous sony ericsson w890i, but that's because not much apps were installed. Over time I installed more apps and noticed my phone was much slower, even though I have used ways to improve the speed, the 528MHz processor is still too slow. If your a gamer and want a good Android phone, get the HTC Desire its got a 1GHz processor and much much faster than the Wildfire. (Btw Wildfire isnt getting the new operating system "2.3", so there's no point in getting one) Don't make the same mistake I did

For the first three days this is a great little phone. Good access to free apps on the Market and texting became easier once I switched from qwerty keyboard to phone pad. However, it has now been returned just 5 days after purchase. Battery life is very poor, everything became slow with lots of apps forced to close, the manual wasn't very helpful at all, no real guidance on how to apply favourites or move contacts from SIM to phone (which you need to do if you want to apply favourites, only found this out when I went back into the store to ask!) Also, didn't always get a notification to tell me I had received a message- wasn't until I actually went into messages and saw the little green number that I knew I had one! The camera is very poor, you press the button and the photo isn't actually snapped until about 3 seconds after by which time the subject may have moved and you just get a blurry pic or the back of someones head. If you turn the phone off it takes an age to switch back on as well. As smart phones go, its ok to begin, but after 5 days you may be disappointed!

Awful phone. Had it for a few months now and at first I loved it. Was sold it from Phones4u in September, with them telling me it was one of the best phones you could get which I now know is lies.... But after having it for a while then you begin to realise how bad it is. Messages force close and freeze your phone everytime you try to delete a thread...can't really play many of the games you download as it is too slow...the facebook app is really poor...camera is poor...and the battery life is bad, I charge mine every night and it never lasts the whole day whilst I am at work! Would not recommend anyone to buy this phone, spend a little more and get something worth having!

Bought this phone for £129 a few weeks ago. Got the white version and love the look of it, it is exactly the right size for me as I find a lot of the smart phones too large. The best feature has to be that you can choose to have a numeric keypad for texting... brilliant, have no idea why the clever people at apple can't put this on the iphone. As texting is still the main thing I use my phone for this is so important and makes life so much easier. Sadly one week into having the phone it sent a text message to completely the wrong person! The text was meant to go to person A and is showing under their name... however it sent it to a completely different person (person B). But if you look at the messages for person B it does not show there, it is only because person B contacted me as they did not understand the message that i knew about this. I have no idea how this has happened and will be going back to the store I got the phone from to try and sort it out. This is potentially quite worrying, as I do not want the phone sending texts to the wrong person on a whim! Very unhappy about this. Camera is ok, I don't expect a phone camera to be brilliant, its more than adequate, however no scene settings for night, snow etc. Battery is poor, I know I am using it a lot at the moment but have to charge it at least twice a day sometimes 3 times. Have no problems with screen, its resolution is good enough for what i use it for. Webpages are easy to load and read. Have had no problems with any of the apps I have downloaded so far. I like the way that Friends Stream combines all your contacts however one major downfall is that you cannot just click on the contact and write on their facebook wall... I don't really understand why not... you can text, call, e-mail but it lacks that final bit of technology that allows you the option to do this. So Friends Stream is a good idea but in my opinion only half done, seems like it was thought up and implemented by someone who is not a keen facebook user otherwise this omission would have been very obvious. So overall, I love the look of the phone, it was cheap and does the basics, but it has let me down on a few little things that I really expected it to do. I know that in a few months I will be looking to replace this phone, just wish the major contenders would put numeric keypads on the phones as a matter of course as its the thing that does not make the iphone or blackberry appealing for me.

Ian Hunter: My last phone stopped working because of water damage and they can tell when it is water damage because a strip inside the phone turns red when subjected to water. That means that the strip must have been red so it must have met water. It isn't htc fault! This phoneis amazing! The price is brilliant compared to it's rivals. Previously I owned a nokia 5530 xpressmusic (which I dropped in the sink) which I though was amazing but after buying this phone I can say was not as good as the wildfire - it was a good phone. The nokia however is still £125 from carphone warehouse and with htc having alot more crammed in you might aswell get the htc.

A wonderful concept but unreliable. Calls often automatically go straight to voicemail without the phone ringing. Texts can be delayed as much as 18 hours. I have checked all settings and reset to factory defaults three times and also tried a number of different (Orange) SIM cards, all of which worked perfectly in other handsets so must assume the phone is faulty. Frustratingly, the problem has been sporadic - which makes the 'phone a bit of a liability. Strangely, outgoing calls and messages are fine. This would be really great phone if it worked consistently.

Ive had this phone for a week now, and am on the whole happy with it. One thing that is poor is the lack of instructions with the phone, it just comes with a quick start guide. Trying to delete messages is a pain if you dont want to delete a whole thread, and any on screen instructions seen to be a bit random. App market is poor compared to the app store, and one or two apps are just adverts for more apps. On the whole, once you have figured out how to use it to its full capacity, its a good phone with a good camera, qwerty keyboard, and well worth the £20 a month i pay

This is easily the WORST and most annoying phone I have ever owned. It is almost impossible to answer the phone when it is ringing and entering phone numbers and or letters for text messages on the ridiculously tiny and inconsistently sensitive touch screen takes the patience of saints. I got this phone free as part of a package deal with 3 that seemed too good to be true - and was. A text oriented person, I chose 5000 texts per month with the plan, but with the HTC Wildfire it would not be possible to send 5000 texts within a month. You would be more likely to die of old age first as it can easily take an entire morning just to send one text. What else....the screen display will randomly re-orient itself from portrait to landscape view and it is very difficult to get it back the way you want it and when in Landscape view the send button vanishes, so while you are smearing your fingers all over the screen trying to get it to go back the other way, you will often in advertently cancel the whole operation and either lose the message or save it to Drafts, retrieval from which is no less a hejira. Although I could finally get online with the phone, I never could browse the internet as the icon that it tells you to click on, in the skimpy manual, did not appear anywhere on my screen. I have an extremely un-romantic attitude towards technology: I don't "love" my phone or laptop, I just want them to work. I'm not into gadgets, apps or games, but it is VERY important to me that my machines expedite my tasks, not increase their length; and that they do not do "intuitive" actions without being commanded to do anything; and that they do not make a task I never had a problem with before into a headache and a chore under the guise of being new and modern. I hated this phone so much that I demanded a replacement despite being 1 day outside the warranty and I got it too. I requested a phone with BUTTONS as I find the idea of a miniature qwerty keybo ard totally ridiculous and if the Wildfire is anything to go by then I hate touchscreens in general. If you desire a phone with a mind of its own that will not do what you want, is tedious and difficult to operate and makes you feel as though you have traumatic brain injury as you sit there stabbing at its stupid screen to no avail, and then watch it do things all by itself that you never asked it to, then by all means have yourself a party with the HTC Wildfire. Otherwise, avoid or buy as a gift for someone you secretly hate.

Infuriating to text on because the delete key and optical trackpad freeze regularly, making it impossible to correct text without leaving the screen, so making it laughably slow. Also spellcheck was absent on both units. Shame because I really liked the phone, found it quick, intuitive & no problems with screen, sharp, clear and bright enough for me but it was my 1st and probably last touchscreen smartphone as the wildfire keyboard was the only one I found easy to use. Full marks to Tesco though, no quibbles from them.

What I found was that getting used to it takes some effort, this is really just a case of finding out how to do something. As an example look through other reviews for things people find difficult then search on google; message drafts are a case in point. It took less than a minute to find and learn via Google. So instead of complaining try research it generally works. The only thing I can't seem to master is speech to text. So overall excellent value at £130 for unlock phone only.

Great phone this for the price. Its a mini desire. Cost is not the only advantage it has over its bigger brother. I've owned both after upgrading to desire to get full android experience but then I sold it, and kept the wildfire. I prefer the wildfire overall for the following reasons: 1. Battery life - Can surf web for 4 hours on this verses desires 2. Lasts 3 days vs 1.5 for desire under same conditions. 2. Speaker sound quality - Not great but at least its tolerable, the desires speaker is so tinny its embarrasing and not pleasant to watch video clips on. Desire good with speech. 3. Camera - Its been improved slightly over desire. Better colours, a little more definition. Not huge improvement. 4. Much more portable and lighter in the pocket. 5. Ease of use. I find the lower resolution screen is less sensitive and therefore needs less precision to text easily. Can miss keys by larger amounts. Downsides are lower resolution screen, too slow for games (angry birds runs just about passable), and thats about it. The biggest advantage desire had was android 2.2 meant could store stuff on SD card, but now you can with wildfire too! The choice is yours.

Gotten over the 'New Gadget' stage and would not recommend this phone if you are seeking a long battery life. Loads of hints and tips out there for getting more time out of it by turning this, that and the other off, but why when this is a smartphone. 20 hours average from the battery with average use. Not impressed. Going back to my Nokia 6303 and use the Wildfire like an iPod Touch.

This is the best phone I have ever had, and had it a week now. I wanted a Desire but they, and similar, are way overpriced! This has a clear screen, some say not too clear, but I like it, it shows a lot for its 3.2 inches and is very sensitive, maybe a tad too much so at times. The battery life is not amazing - but I have only charged it a few times so it might improve. I am not calling with it often at the moment as still on another network with another phone for a few weeks, so I can't say how long a charge will be lasting with proper use - I have been playing a lot of games on it tho,and bluetoothing music to it and it gets thru the day fine on a charge.phone has a real quality feel about it and I eagerly await cover from Ebay - I got phone from Tesco Mobile - I ordered it at 5pm on Thu, was told a 3 to 5 day delivery - it arrived 10.30am NEXT day by Parcelforce - outstanding! Great deal too - £50 to buy, 12 mth contract, 750 mins, unllimited texts and 500mb dat a - I could not better it as only take 12mth deals. Next year I will get a Desire if price drops enough! It is nicknamed a smaller brother of Desire and lives up to its name - great phone!

Do not buy the HTC wildfire! It has a very annoying habit of not connecting on either dialling or receiving calls, this happens daily! Web connection also slow or just freezes. To answer calls is a nightmare, slide on screen responds when it feels like it. I thought I had a faulty phone to begin with so returned it for a replacement, but replacement is just the same. Spoken to other users and they have the same problems. I would not recommend this phone to anyone.

I've been reading through some reviews since buying this phone, and some of the complaints are quite frankly laughable. The phone has its faults, I don't deny that, but they don't detract from its sheer quality as much as some are making out. I see that someone has commented on the 'slow internet connection' - I'm no expert, but the internet connection depends on the network you're connected too, which isn't the phone's fault. Someone else has complained about the poor camera quality, which just happens to be better than the iPhone 3G and 3GS. Delays in processing information come with the fact that it's not a big phone, which a big processor, you basically get what you pay for. If you want a faster phone, then you'll have to take the hit financially! I'm stunned that people have complained about the battery life too, for me it lasts about 2 days. I expect this to diminish as the phone gets older, but people seem to be forgetting it's a smartphone which supports mul titasking, the battery isn't going to be amazing. Perhaps if people used their phones properly and charged them properly less damage would be done to the battery unit and it'd last longer. The simple fact is that those who are complaining about the poor resolution and processing speed, need to stop being so ignorant and face facts - it is a budget smartphone, it's not going to be amazing, but considering the price you pay it IS an outstanding phone. Its features far outweigh the much pricier iPhone. I have basically paid under £200 for a phone that does what the iPhone does. In my books, that is a phone well worth considering. I'm certainly sticking with HTC after being a fan of the iPhone for so long.

This phone is ridiculous. Everything it should do, it doesnt! Im on 3 network and have had it replaced 4 times! I have been on contract since July 2010 and I am dreading having this phone for the next year and a half! The camera is not up to standards at all. You cant take pictures, unless it is a still item. Which i mean, it has to be something that will stay there for a few minutes because it takes a few seconds to take the picture, and if you opt for the flash, it takes even longer! I would have thought, with technology how it is, it would be quick and very easy to use! Especially with the high rated android system! Another thing, On the HTC they have a 'My Market' where you can get all the additional apps etc! Everything i download, i get a pop up message saying 'Force Close' and it closes down! Its diabolical that i pay £25 a month + £10 insurance for a service which is so unreliable. 3 however, have been helpful and have sent it off everytime, and then everytime, I get a new handset! HTC dont even bother to try and fix it?! I have the same problems everytime. Im not careless with my phone and I look after it well, using a phone case and screen protector. It freezes when using the internet and when I am trying to answer calls or hang up! Its got to the point where I have to make sure the other person on the line hangs up first so the call is disconnected. It takes over 10 minutes to load up when ive turned it on. Ive deleted messages, deleted apps, pictures and music because I thought maybe it had low memory and due to having so much on the phone, maybe that would slow it done. Did it make any difference? No! I could go on about this phone! STAY AWAY FROM HTC. Has anyone else had these problems? i noticed below people have? I would like to know if it was resolved? And did HTC cancel your contracts? Many Thanks :D

This cheap little smartphone is a great buy. You will hear loads of people saying that battery life is poor. I don't disagree but I don't think things are as bad as some make out. I charged mine over night (last night), unplugged it at 06:30 and it's now 18:39 and my battery is still full. I have used my phone to call out, text, recieve emails and played angry birds for a short while. You will hear people say drain the battery completely and carry out a long charge. With Lithium-Ion batteries this is not true. Nor is charge when the battery is at about 30%. This is also rubbish. This type of battery can be charged at any point. It is advised not to let it go fully flat. Charge times vary only on the amount of juice left in it. The supplied charger (1000mah) will charge the battery from almost flat to full in about 2 hours. To aid battery life you can turn off all things data but then you just have a phone. The whole point about these phones is to constantly have data transfer. This will use your battery up. There are tips to aid battery life. As follows. 1) if you live in a poor 3G area or travel all over the place day to day like me and go from 3G to 2G from bend to bend in the road then just select GSM in network type. 2) auto sync is only needed if certain apps can't have a frequency time set, i.e. googlemail app. but you will need background data on to get emails via the mail app. 3) use the power widget. Turn off wi-fi, bluetooth etc when not needed. However, if you are not connected to a wi-fi signal and have your phone to pick up 3G and 2G but aren't in a 3G area your phone will use more juice trying to search for a 3G signal than the wi-fi being on but not connected. 4) don't use an advanced app killer. Android is designed to work as it does. Apps end when needed by the Androids OS (the iPhone is the same). 5) keep your background as dark a colour as you can. Brighter colours use more juice. The screen is black when the phone is off. set your phone to sleep/standby after 1 min. I could go on but I think the above will help more than any other advice anyone else can dish out. I like my phone. Considering the phones spec which is half that of the Desire or iPhone it has proven itself to me as a good smartphone. Better than my Bold 9700.

I've had plenty of phones over the years from your basic candy bar styles to slide, flip and full qwerty keyboard phones. Every couple of years a different manufacturer takes top spot with phones in a certain range. I think it is HTC's time to rule the roost. I've had Blackberry 9700, 8520(for work). The original iPhone. Nokia's (still have a 6300 as backup). After getting my BB Bold 9700 i thought it would be a phone that would last me years. How wrong was I. I know this is a review for the wildfire but stick with me. The bold 9700 has flaws, firtsly everytime i took the phone out of its case the battery cover would come off. o2 replaced the cover several times and this dind't help. I resorted to dots of super glue to hold the cover on. About a month ago I had to reinstall the complete phones firmware as the phone bricked itself for unknown reasons. Then i sat on it and the screen cracked. Oh well. I looked all over the web to find a suitable replacement. Nokia have a cheaper style BB which is the C3. It looked very good but lacked 3G and a few other little things. Nokia's C5 looked appealing as it had the things the C3 didn't, but dit i really want a qwerty style phone. I found the Bold 9700 screen limiting to what it could be used for. A friend recomended the HTC Desire. I looked at all the HTC phones as I think the Android OS will, if not already, be massive for years to come. I used this site to check out all the phones that i was keen on and it seemed the Wildfire was a good choice for me. It has all the features I need and more. My g/f has the iPhone 4, althought this is a high end smartphone and has more/better features over the Wildfire I just couldn't part with £600 to get it on PAYG. Had the Wildfire for a day now and I've updated the OS to 2.2. All looking good so far. A very good budget smartphone. Got mine for £130 from Phones4U. Carphone Warehouse do it for £230.

I didn't think it possible to hate a phone and I have never written a review on any website ever but I dislike this phone so intensely that I feel compelled to make it visible! I have had the HTC wildfire since it was first launched. I read all the reviews and was convinced that it would be a good all round phone that had all the extras I needed, particularly email. Having ued it for 3 months now I have found that to definitely NOT be the case. - I am unable to access two of my email accounts, both Yahoo, which renders my main reason for wanting a smart phone useless. - After 2 months of use I needed to take it to a mobile phone shop to work out how to activate the voicemail system. The guy at the Carphone Warehouse was very helpful and after half an hour of trying to work it out and eventually needing to call TMobile himself, he got it working, agreeing that it was ridiculous that it would take so long. - As far as every day usage is concerned the keyboard has a delay, unlike the iphone or my ipod, so text messages take ages to write and are frequently very wrong because you can't see what it's writing. - It takes a ridiculous amount of time to change to different screens, and opening a text message is mad. Even my antiquated Samsung slidephone opened messages instantly, the wildfire can take up to 15 seconds! - The last straw, that provoked me enough to write a review was when I tried to call a friend a few days ago and was confused when a different friend answered. I assumed I'd rung a wrong number but the screen said I was ringing the friend I wanted to speak with. The second attempt was the same- wrong friend. Eventually I discovered that the two numbers had become linked somehow and the second friend's profile had connected to the person I was calling. I have absolutely no idea how! After some considerable time, I managed to delete both numbers and have now re-entered their contacts, which was the only way I could cancel the link. - Additionally, the reviews about the battery life are incorrect. I am lucky to get a full day's use, and I am definitely not a heavy phone user. I leave the 3G switched off until I need it, if it is turned on then the battery needs recharging in just 3-4 hours. - And my other bone of contention is that I am unable to delete text message threads. I needed to keep the messages on one thread so they built up. When the business arrangement was settled I tried to delete the 500 or so messages that had built up and the phone just kept crashing. That same thread now has more than 1000 messages. I recently tried to delete them individually and spent over an hour deleting just 20 texts, the process is so slow and I am not prepared to waste any more of my time. - Oh, and the slider for answering calls frequently doesn't work and I have to watch the caller disappear! I am sure there are other things that I dislike about this phone but I will stop there. All things considered, I am enormously disappointed with this phone and I feel cheated by the reviews that I spent many hours reading as I feel very strongly that they are a complete misrepresentation. This phone wastes far too much of my time, when I thought I was getting something that would save me time. I cannot find a single benefit that changes my mind, I can't even find an advantage to the 7 screens that I thought would be a good idea before purchase. Obviously, it is not my place to tell anyone not to buy/use this phone but in my experience, it is certainly not what I was led to believe and the thought of managing with the wildfire for the remainder of the 2 year contract makes me strangely angry, very out of character for me!
