Phones as good as the Desire HD don't appear very often. It might have been designed as a showcase for everything that Android is capable of offering, and it's quite probably the best mobile internet experience on any current smartphone. With features like a 4.3 inch screen, ultra fast HSPA, a 1GHz processor and plenty of RAM, it can certainly handle web browsing with ease. Add an 8 megapixel camera, HD video recording, DLNA, Dolby Mobile and GPS and it's hard to find anything that's missing.

Features of the HTC Desire HD include:

  • Operating system: Android™ 2.2 (Froyo) with HTC Sense™
  • Display: Touch screen with pinch-to-zoom capability, 480 x 800 WVGA, 4.3 inches
  • Camera: 8 megapixels with autofocus and dual LED flash, Face detection and Geotagging
  • Video Camera: 720p HD video recording
  • Music Player: Gallery, Music, and FM Radio, Dolby® Mobile and SRS virtual surround sound
  • Games and applications: Android apps, HTC Widgets, YouTube, Facebook® and Twitter™
  • GPS: Yes, with digital compass
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth® 2.1 with Enhanced Data Rate, micro-USB, 3.5 mm stereo audio jack, DLNA compatible
  • Internet: Up to 14.4 Mbps download speed / Up to 5.76 Mbps upload speed
  • Operating Frequency: HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz HSPA, GPRS, EDGE
  • Memory: 1.5 GB plus microSD™ memory card (SD 2.0 compatible), 768 MB RAM
  • Size: 123 x 68 x 11.8 mm
  • Weight: 164g
  • Battery: 1230 mAh
  • Talk Time: 320 - 550 minutes
  • Standby: 420 - 490 hours

Love this phone. Have had it for 4ish months now, and initially thought it might be too big, but appreciate the screen size for internet. Easy to navigate. Battery lasts about 1-1.5 days - probably cos i turn off GPS etc. Never found it a problem though - although maybe i have been more organised about when i charge it! Think i made a good choice!

I have had this phone for 3month. I am disappointed with GPS hardware. GPS is weak and took too long to lock to satellite unlike my old Nokia E71 that takes few seconds . The phone was taken back by 3G for repair and I was told nothing was wrong with the phone. I was let down despite its great functionalities.

yes the battery lasts a day, but who doesnt leave their phone on charge at night time? An extra charger is like £3 (or less if because its a generic micro USB) whereas how much is just an apple cable without the plug? HTC 1, Apple 0. If your battery does run out you can simple pull it out and put a spare battery in (which i keep in my wallet as its so thin) oh and the replacement battery (a 1600mA) cost me £4 HTC 2 - Apple 0 "but how do i charge 2 batteries at once" you can buy a dock for £12 from a very popular online store called amazon which charges your phone and a spare battery! POW! HTC 3 - Apple 0 It plays flash videos. On a whole variety of internet browsers, you can get opera, firefox, dolphin HD, only a matter of time before google and IE bring out apps too. Yes, Flash files, you know those little videos which iphones wont play? HTC 4 Apple 0 The android store is cluttered with rubbish and at the moment is NOWHERE NEAR the app store. But all the essentials are available. Whatsapp, bbc iplayer, words with friends, Wikipedia, IMDB, Ebay, google, facebook, twitter, etc and so forth HTC 4 Apple 1 It doesnt drop signal when you hold it by the sides HTC 5 Apple 1 The screen quality is unbelieveable, you will actually wow at the graphics, live wallpapers which respond to every touch add to this and customising your entire phone to your wants make the iphone miles away from this, easily switch on and off bluetooth wifi locations with a swipe of the finger and not go through boring menus HTC 6 Apple 1 The HTC is by far the better phone, the iphone is a more simple, idiot friendly phone and the app store is better but NOTHING else is better. Yes they say iOS5 will do this and that, but the HTC is already doing everything apples new operating system will do, why have apple stopped you before now? The iphone is a brilliant phone. But apple are tossers, and HTC just want to make the best phone for the user. The whole "protentiousness" just isnt there with HTC, the phone and the user come first. Ive had this phone 2 months by the way and previously had the first iphone, the 3g and the 3gs and WASNT going to pay £200 for the iphone 4 on a contract, this phone was free on a £35 a month deal. Superb.

Had this phone for 6 months now and it is brilliant. being the wrong side of 40 the bigger screen makes seeing text brilliant, the different keyboard options (predictive text or qwerty etc.) are great, internet use if very clear and simple. As for the battery life....yes if you hammer it it goes quickly but after the initial "play factor" I can easily go a day and a-half between charges and that includes using exchange email and phone calls. The girlfriend's iphone "must"be charged every night..... It is a great phone...you will not be dissapointed...

ok so its fast on the internet, the screen is big and hd and the camera is pretty good. however i've had this phone over a month now and little things keep cropping up... my hotmail is very intermittent on the htc mail app and in fact currently won't send messages atall, the signal isn't all that good and calls drop even when there are a few bars, the inbuilt music player is pretty rubbish and the battery is worse than my old iphone 3gs - which is saying something, skype is rubbish on this phone even on wifi (voices go glitchy and robotic sounding). oh and the glare on the screen in sunlight makes the phone almost unusable. i would consider something else cos this aint a great phone....

Great phone, open source makes it easy to root if you should feel so inclined (I am not), and there are plenty of free or inexpensive applications for fun and practical uses. (I bought powerAMP for an enhanced music experience) Not having a dedicated camera button is a downside but the photo quality is rather good; the on/off and volume buttons are a bit impractical and stiff, compared to say, the iPhone, but this is just a question of getting used to. I have had no problems with the signal yet. Overall the performance is extremely good.

I love my desire HD. You know how some phones are good for listening to music, some for taking photos, some for browsing the web? Well this phone just has it all. Very easy to use, love how simple it is to customize it to your preferences. However, a couple of times it has frozen up on me but I think that might be the apps fault. (I also saw Mac Taylor from CSI NY had one, which just makes it that bit cooler y'know?)

Had my Desire HD for a few days now so can't comment on the battery life. However, having upgraded from my HTC Hero I am very glad I stuck with HTC. From the feeling in the hand it is much more solid than the Galaxy SII and heavier - but reassuringly so. Very solid feeling piece of kit. The user experience is great aswell. So fast - the one problem with my Hero was how slow it could be - no such issue here. Do phones need to be any faster? Interface - excellent, choices of apps - I find there to be plenty and downloading/installing is quick and easy - especially over wifi. I even found that the phone loaded and played youtube videos faster than my home laptop! Screen clear and bright, photos excellent. In short the honeymoon period with my fone is going well. So much that my wife is getting jealous....

I got this phone in mid December and it was fantastic. Great for music, internet connection was fantastic and watching films was a delight. By end of January it had started switching itself off. Its now been with HTC for the last 2 months waiting to be repaired ! No explanation, no contact, no apology from them. Great phone but only when it works. I have called, emailed and sent a letter to the chief executive of HTC but no one get back in touch. HTC are not the best in customer service!!

I've had this phone for 3-4 months now. It's a good quality phone with good screen, good apps, speed layout etc. Rubbish battery life, not very good reception. Rubbish camera for still shots but good video. Having big problems receiving emails abroard. I consider this to be a great gadget phone which will keep you entertained for hours if you change the battery!! Not a business phone you can rely on though. I'm going back to Blackberry purely for reliability.
